TIGER EYE — JR [Summer Prompts]

A/N: Disappointed we won’t get to see this handsome face for at least another three seasons but I’m enjoying the time we do have! I know this will flop somewhat since I’ll say it again, this fandom is basically nowhere to be found up here but I’ll be doing a disservice if I didn’t do a little something for my man who’s aways going to be my man!

A PROMPT I THREW INTO THE MIX CAN BE FOUND HERE & I’m using: "no, i'm not going to give you a bite because i know you're not gonna like it. then you're going to ask me how the hell i like it, and i don't want to listen to that right now."

Synopsis: in which you’re JR’s long-time fling who’s always high and just here to have a good time but after his health scare and his new found friend in Gabby, tends to stick around more than ever now…you see that your season is almost up as well.

“No, i'm not going to give you a bite because i know you're not gonna like it. then you're going to ask me how the hell i like it, and i don't want to listen to that right now." JR says across from you in the booth, fork pointed in your direction as you sent a lazy smile his way.

You were catfish’s bigger hater but yet here you were, ten minutes late after the scheduled meet up time after eight pm, taking forever and a day to decide what you wanted to eat. He already knew your ass was high once you set eyes on him but he didn’t pin it to your slight tardiness, you were never on time. Which is why he lied and said six-forty-five, knowing his ass wouldn’t be there either, getting his reps in at the gym before hitting the showers.

He got to your fav breakfast diner spot at seven-forty-five so it really wasn’t that big of deal to the athlete. It really became your place together because you were a sucker for breakfast for dinner and this place was near campus and what better place to get to your heart than through food?

JR being the gentleman he was, already ordered your favorite drink and waited on you before he got to ordering anything else. When you did show up, dressed in your earthy black girl glory, he couldn’t help but to be all grins at the sight of you.

Until it came to you slandering his food choices.

Pulling a mocking face at the beautiful brown skinned boy, you rested your cheek into your fist and sipped at your drink with a sigh. Of course JR found that cute, laughing at your still hungry behind as he took another bite from his sandwich.

“Where’d you get that necklace from?” He asks.

You peek down at the new gem around your neck, “why? Jealous I got more ice than you since you won’t let me wear your initials?”

JR snorts as he grabs his own necklace, “baby, I can give you more than my initials if you’re about it.”

Shaking your head, you fan your hand at the boy as the waiter comes back with your order of dessert. And of course you had no problem tearing that up, just hoping JR didn’t go into his whole disquisition about making things serious.

You already had a roommate who was in your ear about securing a husband but that wasn’t what you were here for or what your folks trained you to do. The only reason JR was brought to your attention was because your professor forced you all to do a partner project and he chose you while you made no effort to find a partner. JR even went as far as telling the girl that had her eye on him a few seats over that he already had one, being familiar with this professor’s game of spontaneous quizzes and projects.

JR never regretted choosing you, even until this day.

“Hey, JR! Didn’t know you came to this place.” A voice breaks you out of your staring contest, JR’s smirk turning to the curly haired girl that stood beside him outside of the booth.

JR sends a smile her way, “what’s going on Gabby? Yeah, y/n and hit this place up, what babe? At least three times a week?”

You nod as Gabby sets her eyes on you, “oh, hey y/n.”

Sending her a wave with your tatted and ring covered fingers; since your mouth was full and you still didn’t want to be to be impolite, that’s all you could do to acknowledge the girl. She started coming around a whole lot more after Cam first introduced the two, which was right around the time when you just started what some might call a situationship whereas you called it a partnership and even more once JR got sick—which was nice of Gabby but you could read between the lines.

Even brought it up one time when JR had you on all fours after that party one time, “are you serious right now?” His thick brows furrowed followed with a pant from behind you.

“What? I’m just saying, I know when a bad bitch is feeling you and I wouldn’t be mad if—

He gripped your hips, one hand pressing on your lower back arching your back even further to get you even closer to him, finding a more than acceptable way to shut you up then.

“You feeling alright though?” Gabby asked and you could sense the smidge of irritation radiating off JR although he still kept a smile on his face.

It was the way it faltered just a bit at the corners that you picked up on. It was cool that she cared but of course there was a thing called doing too much. First it was Keisha being overly encouraging, granted she contributed a lot to JR’s healing process, just because your head was often in the clouds didn’t mean you were stuck on stupid and now here was Gabby asking about his health every chance she got.

You hated to say it but you were different.

You didn’t let JR’s sickness define him or make it his focus and that’s all that he wanted. He didn’t want to be that vulnerable ever again especially when he lost baseball because of it. You loved seeing him play on the field and although your aim was trash, you didn’t mind being out on there with JR when he felt up for it. When he wanted to talk about that tough time, you would be right there listening. Everyone operates differently when it comes to caring but being in tuned, asking what JR needed instead of what everyone thought he needed was something he valued about you.

Never a competition but just a thought!

After all, you didn’t want to take college dating so seriously.

Life can be rough all on its own.

“Feel brand new. Refreshed even,” JR lifts his shoulders, still a smile on his face, “back to the old JR but better.”

Gabby nods her head, “Good to hear, but don’t overwork yourself now! And don’t hesitate to reach out if you ever need anything.”

“‘Ppreciate it, Gabs.”

“Y’all have a goodnight,” Gabby glances at you one last time with a warm smile that felt genuine before leaving you two be.

Watching as she left the diner, you lean back against the booth as her twist-out curls bounced in the night while she made her way over to the Uber.

When your eyes flick back to JR’s, his melted brown sugar eyes were still settled on your form, “Don’t start.”

“I didn’t say a thing.”

“I already know what you’re thinkin’ though.” JR rests his elbows on the table.

You lightly laugh, “okay Avant tease.”

JR playfully rolls his eyes, “I’m trying my best to give you that old school r&b love but you’re probably the most stubborn girl I’ve dated in my life.”

Sighing you didn’t bother correcting him. Was this dating? Technically but you put that fear to the side to spare him really. He knew where you stood and still thought he could change your mind.

Jessie Raymond Jr. was never a quitter.

“I like to say I’ve been pretty tame tonight, don’t you think?”

“Which only means I’m being set up for what’s to come, right?” He brings his clasped hands up to his lips as he peers over at you through his lengthy lashes.

He was just waiting on the day you tried to call it quits for real this time.

“Nah, I’ve got the tiger eye on.”

“Meaning what?” JR still wasn’t entirely sure what you were into but he knew you had a lot of damn rocks in your dorm that his grandmomma would probably call witchcraft.

You lay the palm of your hand flat side up on the table which he moves to place his own right on top, “All about courage and balance, baby cakes.”

“Well shit, let me get one so I can keep you a little longer then.” JR tells you while you softly smile at him.

You wink, “just gives you something else to focus on when it’s hanging in front of your face.”

JR can’t stop the wide grin that spreads around his gleaming teeth, “oh, don’t tempt me with a good time.”

“I knew it was working.” You squeeze his hand in yours, leaning across the table with your lips puckered.

JR doesn’t hesitate to cup your face, pecking your lips multiple times until you nipped his bottom lip. He sits back at the assault, touching his bottom lip to make sure you didn’t draw any blood and the way your low lidded eyes stayed on his lips, made him feel tingly inside.

“Excuse me, waiter!” JR broke the eye contact, because if he didn’t, he knew the younger relatives that ran the joint from eight pm to 1am would put the two of you on Twitter or worse.

For the night, you had no problem being in love as you took your long walk back to campus hand tight in JR’s larger but soft one, with the crickets chirping their approval as you carried on, bursting into old songs together in the warm but gentle summer night.

But this was also the first Summer Station ID of GMA to be in a 16:9 widescreen format.

This is also the only Summer Station ID of GMA to be produced by DJ Willie Revillame. But in the future, Willie Revillame will be producing ABC-5 songs in 2005 which will be re-branded into TV5 in May 5, 2005.

Hey y'all! The grind never stops but my schedule has lightened up some now that summer has arrived. Hopefully, that means I'll have more time to write, so look out for updates!

In fact, I just posted my first chapter of a new All American: Homecoming fic I'm working on called Sugar! I decided to post it on Wattpad because that seems to be where most of All American fics are posted, but I'll be happy to post it on here as well if this seems to be a favorable platform/home for it as well.
