Jesse Ahern hat kürzlich sein neues Album “Roots Rock Rebel” angekündigt (15. September über Dummy Luck Music), die erste Veröffentlichung des in Boston ansässigen Songwriters über das Dropkick Murphys-Label.

Nach dem bereits geteilten Albumopener "Pray", erschien Ende Juni die Single "Back Against the Wall", die jetzt ein Video spendiert bekommt. Der Song, wie das gesamte Album produziert von Ted Hutt (Dropkick Murphys, Gaslight Anthem), fasst die Notlage des amerikanischen Alltags mit schlagkräftigen, offenherzigen Zeilen zusammen.

Inspiriert von The Clash, Public Enemy, The Beastie Boys, The Grateful Dead, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters oder Jimmy Cliff treffen Singer-Songwriter-Vibes auf eine akustische Folk-Punk-Attitüde, die die Werte der Arbeiterklasse verteidigt. “I have three kids, and all I ever think is, ‘Where the hell are they going to go?”, erzählt Jesse. “How are they going to ever buy a house or afford rent?’ It’s fucking wild out there.”

Freemark Abbey Winery, CA (No. 3)

In 1939, three businessmen from Southern California, Albert "Abbey" Ahern, Charles Freeman and Markquand Foster purchased Lombarda Cellars. Together they reopened the winery and renamed it Freemark Abbey (a combination which includes a portion of each partner's name). During the 1940s and 1950s the partners sold the majority of their wines to retail outlets in San Francisco. The winery went through several hands in the early 1960s before being purchased by a group of seven partners in 1966. After the purchase, the new owners made major improvements to the facility. This core group owned the winery until 2001 when they sold it to The Legacy Estate Group. In March 2005 the Legacy Estate Group overreached and tried to consolidate Arrowood and Byron into one group. Eight months later, in November 2005, the Legacy Estate group went bankrupt and sold its assets in an auction. Freemark Abbey is now a part of Jackson Family Wines, which is owned by the family of the late Jess Jackson.

[Album] Jesse Ahern veröffentlicht neues Album "Roots Rock Rebel" am 15. September!

Jesse Ahern veröffentlicht am 15. September sein neues Album "Roots Rock Rebel" über Dummy Luck Music. Der neue Longplayer ist dabei die erste Veröffentlichung des Amerikaners über das Dropkick Murphys-Label.

Nach dem bereits veröffentlichten Albumopener "Pray", erschien bereits vergangenen Freitag der neue Track "Back Against the Wall" des in Boston ansässigen Songwriters, wie das gesamte Album produziert von Ted Hutt (Dropkick Murphys, Gaslight Anthem). Singer-Songwriter-Vibes à la Cash oder Springsteen treffen darin auf eine akustische Folk-Punk-Attitüde. Ahern, der aus bescheidenen Verhältnissen in Quincy, Massachusetts stammt, hält in seinen Liedern die geballten Fäuste der Arbeiterklasse hoch. Andere Songs zeigen das rohe, offene Herz eines Mannes, der viel Liebe, aber mindestens auch genau so viel Verluste erlitten hat. Wiederum andere zeigen die zarten, schützenden Arme eines Vaters, der seine Kinder vermisst, wenn er auf Tour ist.

Apropos Tour, unterwegs war Ahern in den letzten vier Jahren häufig, sei es in abgelegenen Spelunken und kleinen Clubs oder auch größeren Locations, zuletzt mit seinen Freunden von den Dropkick Murphys, zuvor auch mit Rancid, Chuck Ragan, Frank Turner oder Jamie Wyatt. Mit der Veröffentlichung von "Roots Rock Rebel" wird Ahern noch viele weitere Meilen um den Globus reisen und mit seiner Gitarre, der Mundharmonika und seinem Charme und Humor dabei zukünftig sicherlich noch einige Erstbesucher*innen in langjährige Fans verwandeln.

This question is, is it ever justified to torture an individual to save the lives of many? And if the answer is yes, how far can you go? This issue is indeed a very sensitive subject and I think it takes guts for any filmmaker to put it out there in the open like Gregor Jordan did. Add to that the clever fact that he doesn’t actually make a choice, but rather lets the audience decide on whatever they want to think and feel, and you have a pretty gutsy and controversial concept. In a nutshell, this film is about a man of American descent who has become a Muslim and has now, as an act of terrorism, planted 3 nuclear bombs in 3 major American cities which will go off in four days. Screenwriter Peter Woodward made some very tactical decisions considering the characters in the story. They are all somewhat stereotypical, but this is no bother because they’re all there for a reason. Carrie-Anne Moss, as an FBI investigator, represents the conscience, the sensitivity and the struggle to make the right decision. Samuel L. Jackson is her polar opposite; the brutal, rational, stone cold “interrogator” who does what he does because he’s the only one who can and willing to do it. The means he is willing to go to in order to get his subject to talk ...
