Frowny Fox and the "forgotten" critters scent

It's a personal pet peeve of mine when Smiling Critters ocs don't have plant based scent or just random scent and I also hate how Gametoons portray the Smiling Critters (my baby boy DogDay would never!), so they're human, friends and ex-orphans in my AU, also Frowny Fox's pendant is teardrop/raindrop instead of a broken heart :)

Frowny Fox : Mimosa because he's sensitive and doesn't like being touched, also because I love Mimosa and I love him like a son

Molly McMoo : Chamomile because she takes care of the others like a farmer takes care of his cows or a mike cow takes care her calf

Clever Claws : Orchid because he likes to boss people around, acts like he's the king and auto-proclamed himself co-leader of the Smiling Critters

Jolly Jaws : Marigold because he likes to help people and tend their wounds

Silly Shelly : Lily because he's the youngest so he's very curious and is discovering things at his own pace

Jerry Giraffe : Cosmos because he's the oldest so that's his role to make sure the others follow the rules and don't act reckless

Eventually David entered high school. He was working towards his A+ Certification in computers and looking towards becoming an IT Technician. A sudden (but possibly long overdue) divorce between his parents turned David's life upside down during his Junior year. The divorce didn't go well between parents.

This is not included in Bunny's...despite them being twins... i love the 'sudden (but possibly long overdue) divorce'

David met Jerry Hager for the first time when he took his Beginning Acting class at the college. David knew of Jerry's "miming" down at Seaport Village and even visited his professor a few times while he was performing. It wasn't until his [Sister] [Bunny] took Jerry's mime class, and recommend that he take it with [her] again the following year, that David was introduced to the beauty of the art of mime and movement.

Yes you heard the man, The Jon, The Rabbit, The Spine and Upgrade only went through Three (3) mime classes before their first appearances in balboa park. And none more. (see; Steam Powered Giraffe started at the beginning of the second time David took Jerry's mime class.)

Approximately junior year a tall, gangly fellow (by the name of David) joined the drama club and introduced himself as such. Sam spent many'a afternoon trying to discern the Bennett twins (one wears black and one wears dragons). The only way Sam chooses to explain the early days of "Hangin' With the Bennetts" is as follows:

"it was like being a supporting character on some weird sitcom within a sitcom."

But months pouring over his original schematics proved fruitless for the boys and soon months turned into years...and then turned into decades.

The Pasts of the Forgotten Critters/Frowny fox (rewritten)

The forgotten critters were all part of different collections, paired with a smiling critter that was supposed to be part of the same collections.

Dogday, Catnap, Hoppy hopscotch, and Silly Shelly were part of the Pet collection

Jerry Giraffe, Clever Claws and Bubba Bubbaphant were part of Safari collection (In my au Bubba is an Indian Elephant but I could see Playtime co trying to sell my off as an African elephant thinking people wouldn't tell the difference)

Kickinchicken, Picky Piggy, and Molly Mc Moo were part of the farm collection

Craftycorn and Jolly jaws were paired up in a fantasy collection as Jolly wasn't any ordinary shark, he was supposed to be a Megaladon.

and finally Bobby and Frowny were made as a set for a Wild things collection (hence why their pendants are almost identical)

Their purposes and stories within the cartoons:

Jerry was going to be a love interest for Craftycorn. The two of them were paired up with the image of two shy souls who barely fit into the world coming together and changing each other for the better. Jerry was an expert at measuring, he could even guess how tall something was without needing a ruler. This, Without saying, was very useful for Crafty's art projects

Clever claws was smart but he was also dazzling, attractive, and oh so cool, everything that Bubba lacked. While Bubba was shown to get picked on and teased for not fitting in, Clever claws was able to mask himself and fit in with the crowd. He even tried to teach Bubba how to mask and fit in with the crowd but whenever Bubba tried it was met with failure, he did everything Clever claws did but it wasn't enough. Clever claws knew this and it wasn't fair, he became Bubba's best friend and taught him there was nothing to be ashamed of even if no one liked him.

Jolly jaws and Kickinchicken were paired as a playful duo, Jolly jaws was just as adventurous as Kickinchicken but he was more in favor of being save while doing (hence why a lifesafer is his pendant) While Kickin was more or less about being reckless and having fun. He teased Jolly jaws about being safe, calling him a coward, etc. One day the two of them had a surfing contest but during the surfing Kickin was knocked off his surfboard, Jolly jaws was happy until he realized that Kickin never resurfaced. He quickly dove under the surface and rescused Kickin from a watery grave. That's when Kickin really learned about the importance safety.

Molly Mc Moo's purpose in was to teach about how there needs to be a balance within someones life when i came to something they enjoy. In this case it was teaching Picky Piggy there was nothing to be ashamed of when it came to her love of Pb&J sandwhiches even if it wasn't healthy because Picky had control over herself and cared about her healthy. As long as she kept that up there was nothing wrong with a little treat now and then

Shelly and Hoppy were paired together as competitive opposites situation. Their story was supposed to be a parody of the tortoise and the hare. The two would race but Hoppy would hurt herself going so fast and Shelly would help her out teaching her that sometimes slower is better.

And finally Frowny was a fox who was hurt and bullied all his life. Then he met Bobby and she showed him what love is and how to be happy despite all the pain he's been through

Reasons for rejection:

The kids weren't impressed with Clever claws, some of the older girls thought he was a typical "self centered prince charming" and the kids thought that Jerry looked weird and made fun of him.

Similar reasons for Frowny fox, the kids hated how he smelled and saw no point in having a "Sad toy".

The kids were scared of Jolly jaws because he was a shark they tried removing his teeth but he looked too silly without them.

There was nothing wrong with Milly MC moo its just that Kickin and Picky were more popular so Molly was thrown away

Silly Shell was playing on the swings with Hoppy when he fell off, he retreated into his shell but it cracked and shattered upon impact with the ground. Shelly was deemed too hazardous for the children.

Without Molly and Shelly they could still have pet and Farm sets but they saw no point in realising Bobby, Bubba and Crafty on their own so they were all combined into the smiling critters we know today.

As time past the critters had moved on from their lost companions and forgot about them, not because they didn't care about them, it was more of a "I thought you were dead" type of forgetting

- I KNEW IT I KNEW IT I'M SO HAPPYYYY this has always been my favorite theory for why ellie is immune and it also means that, however unlikely, there actually could be other immune people out there. it wouldn't benefit the narrative to meet any other immune people yet, but in the future...? like a third game...?

- baby ellie just popped right out huh fksjfkd i guess the quickest way to speed up labor is to kill a zombie

- hearing ashley johnson's voice, especially hearing her use her sweet baby voice brought me to tears immediately

- joel seems a lot more aware & understanding of why ellie is so checked out, but still tries to cheer her up. in the game he's well-meaning but pretty much clueless. i like this change!!

- i'm a fucking mess because of that conversation by the medical tents, that was an incredible moment to add and i wasn't expecting it at all. the look on ellie's face when she realizes that it's her, she's the one that "healed all wounds"

IT MAKES ME CRAZY AHHHHH YOU'RE ALL COWARDS

- the hospital shootout was everything i wanted and so much more. joel found his reason to live and god help him, he'll fight for it -- no matter how many lives he needs to take to get there. it was so intense and the music was beautiful and it was just gory enough to make you feel the weight of the brutality without feeling like it's a cheesy slasher. also loved how many times joel reloading or switched guns. and his dead eyes throughout the whole scene are haunting

- wow, killing jerry happened so damn fast!! in the game, you can stand in front of him forever and he'll just keep pointing his knife at you (and in the remake he pleads with joel, "this is our future, think of all the lives she'll save.") but i love the decision to shoot him in the blink of an eye. joel is beyond caring about anything other than ELLIE ELLIE ELLIE. i do like that he doesn't kill the nurses though, because it's a purely practical mission: save ellie. everyone else is just in the way.

- no abby sighting? :( i really thought there would be one :(

- i'm a little bummed that the themes were spelled out so specifically by marlene and joel's last conversation, but eh, whatever. TV audiences tend to need things spelled out clearer lol. i'm a little surprised they took out the line "how long until she's torn apart by a pack of clickers? that is, if she hasn't been raped and murdered first". considering what happened last episode, i felt that line would ring more true than ever. kinda underwhelmed by this confrontation tbh, which is sad because it's so pivotal

- ohhhh god he expanded upon the lie 😭 that hurt so much worse. i'm devastated for ellie

- joel talking about sarah felt more painful than i previously thought possible. also adorable how he doesn't want to offend ellie by calling her "not girly" ajfjsjfksj

- maybe i'm just blinded by my love for the game, but i don't like any of the dialogue they changed in the final scene. joel's original speech is SO poignant and perfect but i didn't get the same emotion from this one. and there was no glance at his watch :( i would've preferred keeping riley's fate vague (we already knew anyway), because "i'm still waiting for my turn" is so much more emotional to me. ugh. i'm a little peeved they changed so much about this scene that has long been considered as close to perfect as possible :(

- i don't want to end on a bad note so let me just say that the entire experience of watching this show has been incredible beyond words. seeing a game i love so much be treated with care and passion, opening up a whole new world for people who never would have known about it before this... it's just amazing. i'm so grateful that this show exists and feels like a love letter to the fans rather than a cash grab. it's so damn beautiful

When visiting adjunct professor of anthropology Thor Odinson Googled for "local scientists gay" one warm spring evening, he wasn't exactly sure what he had been expecting to find nor how he had even ended up in this unfortunate situation. The fact was undeniable, though, that it was Friday, he was a stranger in a new city, and he had decided to stay home with a tub of Ben & Jerry's watching nature documentaries in his pajamas instead of doing something about it. Rather than contemplating that further, he added "hot with dark hair" to the search bar and hit the button. If academia had taught him anything, it was to be detailed in his queries.

He told himself that his interest was purely academic (ha ha), but even so he was disappointed when he saw the results. There were a couple of articles on famous LGBT scientists, a band called the Gay Mad Scientists and... adverts for ball shaving, for some reason. He might have had better luck with a dating app, but that implied commitment. Thor wasn't sure he was looking for commitment. It hadn't been too long since Jane dumped him (mutual dumping, he'd insisted afterwards).

He was idly scrolling through page twelve of the results when something caught his eye: "Jerking Off Whilst Reciting the Periodic Table (Can I Make it Past Iridium?)". The link definitely didn't lead to a dating website. Thor hesitated, intrigued. He glanced up at the TV, where a pair of giraffes were mating enthusiastically. He supposed the evening had been building towards this. Thor downed the melted dregs of his ice cream, put it to one side and furtively wiped his hand on his pants. He clicked the link.

I mentioned in my Jack Flowers reference art that he's got a stripper pole in his apartment. Well, here's where that originated from:

Jack and Jerry are talking about college stuff, and Jack mentions that he’s still working multiple part time jobs in his free time to pay his tuition (Jerry doesn’t have that problem, ofc. Daddy’s money and all). Jerry suggests he could be a stripper; “They make tons of dough every night, and it lines up with your whole insomnia thing!”

Ofc jack assumes he’s joking, and just punches him lightly as he laughs and says, “With my lack of ass? Yeah right.” and they’re all bantering and laughing about it. But the next day, Jerry’s at his apartment door with a suspiciously long package. Next thing Jack knows, he’s got a stripper pole in his apartment.

Jack knows that he doesn’t have any balance, and he's got the grace of a drunk giraffe, so any ideas for him even attempting to do anything crazy on the pole are immediately shut down (much to Jerry’s disappointment). It doesn’t stop Jerry from sending him tutorials on youtube over the next few weeks, though.

And if Jack sometimes got curious and ended up trying to follow along (and ending up with bruises around his joints), well…

(note: It’s still in his apartment to this day bc really… it took so much effort to put the thing up. He’s way too lazy to take it down. “Also, it gives the place character… I guess.”)

A fun thing you will never forget. When and what was it like? Tomo: I caught a 63cm rainbow trout, but my father and I were fighting over the fish so we couldn't tell whose fish it was. Asaki: I'm forgetful.

Random thoughts about the last episode and therefore in general about the whole show

- the giraffe scene was beautiful. I was a little scared they would cut it, but it was perfect

- Anna!!! I loved her and it felt surreal hearing "Ellie's" voice. Would love to know more about her. I always thought that Marlene and Anna were in love. And this cemented it for me because they were the perfect Riley/Ellie mirror. Also: Anna knowing Ellie's only chance was lying to Marlene about when she cut the cord. Phew.

- the fact that the Fireflies actually actively didn't tell Ellie, basically lied to her. Also interesting that Joel shot Jerry immediately without hesitation, while in the game he hesitates and you kinda have to take him down because he even attacks Joel with a scalpel if you don't.

- little sad that we didn't get to see the photo scene, even though Tommy heading back to Texas in the game just to go through their stuff actually didn't make a lot of sense

- the scenery was so on point and the acting was once again amazing.

- probably a little unpopular opinion: I didn't like the scene of Joel telling Ellie about his attempt. It felt kinda forced and out of place and kinda too on the nose for me. The acting was still beautiful, I just kinda preferred the more subtle way the game let us know about it (but apparently a lot of people missed that and say his attempt is a show only thing, when it isn't)

- sad that we never got a pay off with the knife we saw Sarah pick up in Joel's drawer. What was that about???

Some general stuff:

All my criticism of the show is just nitpicking. I loved it. The acting and casting was amazing. The changes in Bill and Frank's story were perfect and so necessary. A lot of minor changes and additions I absolutely loved. Can't wait to see more of Maria and I'm curious about the how Tommy's story will change with him being a dad in the following seasons. I actually preferred Joel/Tess in the show and their relationship and it worked well with my headcanons about them. The tendrils for the Infected worked really well.

I was not a fan of the way the show changed well working dialogue sometimes and some stuff was a little too much on the nose for me. And the pacing was challenging. I think it would have profited from one or two episodes more and giving us some more slow scenes and giving us a feeling for the time that has passed. Because with this fast pacing it felt like the Salt Lake City episode was like immediately after David and so Ellie's behaviour is based on this fresh trauma. When we see in the game get behaviour is unusual and just starts when they reach Salt Lake City. Also: I would have loved some more horror scenes with infected. Like the college dorms hotel cellar or sewers with stalkers there and the challenge of not waking them up because we see in the show how dangerous they are. But like I said: it's totally nitpicky and I still loved it and I'm looking forward to watching it with my dad because he knows nothing about the source material .
