Grateful Dead Co-founder and Bassist Phil Lesh Dies at 84
Phil Lesh, the co-founder and former bassist of the Grateful Dead has died at age 84.
Lesh “passed peacefully” the morning of Oct. 25, his family said.
“He was surrounded by his family and full of love,” they said in a statement. “Phil brought immense joy to everyone around him and leaves behind a legacy of music and love.”
“Rest in peace, Phil Lesh,” Tinsley Ellis said. “A very sad day indeed.”
No cause was given, but Lesh had a liver transplant in 1998 and survived cancer and a couple of bouts with COVID-19.
“Phil Lesh - rest in peace,” said String Cheese Incident’s Jason Hann. “Wow, what a powerful musical influence on our community. Godspeed.”
Big Shrimp echoed Hann, writing on social media: “Without Phil Lesh there would be no Big Shrimp. Rest easy Phil, thank you for the music.”
The Empire State Building will be aglow in tie-dye in Lesh’s honor tonight.
“Phil was the big brother I never had,” former Grateful Dead keyboardist Tom Constanten said.
“Sixty-three years ago he introduced me to his friend Jerry Garcia. Too many things to say, memories, adventures. Maybe in a day or so, as the numbness abates.”
Lesh joined the Warlocks in 1965, just before they changed their name to the Grateful Dead. He stayed with the group until it disbanded in 1995 after Jerry Garcia’s death.
“I will never forget Phil and his impact on my life and music,” Greensky Bluegrass’ Dave Bruzza said.
Though he didn’t compose as much as Garcia and Bob Weir, Lesh’s “Box of Rain” and “Unbroken Chain” were among the Dead’s most-revered songs.
“I will sing ‘Box of Rain’ tonight in Ann Arbor,” Steve Poltz said on social media. “Phil Lesh, RIP.”
Post-’95, Lesh toured with his revolving band of Friends, co-founded Furthur with Weir and played with his former bandmates in the Others Ones and the Dead.
“My life would be completely different without Phil Lesh,” Eric Krasno said in a statement.
“Millions of others would say the same. He taught me and many other musical Friends that it was way more important to move together than to try to shine on our own. When we are all in sync together anything is possible. … Thank you, Phil, for bringing us all together, and thank you for endlessly sharing your gift and letting us tag along.”
The so-called Core Four - Lesh, Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart - last shared a stage in 2015 as Fare Thee Well.
“Thanks for the music, Phil,” Hyryder said. “Our love will not fade away.”

The 5 best animated movies on Netflix
Bee Movie (2007)
EW grade: A– (read the review)
Directors: Simon J. Smith and Steve Hickner
Cast: Jerry Seinfeld, Renée Zellweger, Matthew Broderick, John Goodman, Patrick Warburton, Chris Rock
Lights, camera, VPNaction! Elevate your movie nights with NordVPN. 🎥🔒secure your connection and Download NordVPN . Click now to unlock global cinematic thrills!
From the twisted mind of Jerry Seinfeld came this oddball DreamWorks comedy about a talking bee (also voiced by Seinfeld) who is outraged by the exploitation of his species for honey and decides to sue the human race. Along the way, he also sort of falls in love with a human florist (Renée Zellweger). Despite (because of?) its wild premise, Bee Movie gets at some potent messaging about workers' rights and the differences between individualism and collectivism. In other words, as EW's critic noted, it's "nutty, ecological, antically funny, and moving, all at the same time." The film has subsequently inspired a surprising number of memes, adding to its bizarro lore.
Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)
EW grade: N/A (read the review)
Directors: Nick Park and Steve Box
Cast: Peter Sallis, Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter
Following the success of their universally acclaimed shorts, Aardman Animations brought Wallace and Gromit to the big screen for this humorous tale in which the eccentric inventor and his loyal dog are tasked with hunting down a rabbit who's been eating the town's crop of vegetables. But this proves easier said than done, as the pair realizes that the dreaded Were-Rabbit may be closer to home than they suspected. Packed with the studio's trademark British wit, and lovingly crafted with stop-motion claymation, the Oscar-winning film is a total delight. As EW's critic wrote, "The Curse of the Were-Rabbit bestows generous blessings on all that's good in Englishness, in moviedom, and, of course, in cheese.
Kung Fu Panda (2008)
EW grade: A– (read the review)
Directors: John Stevenson and Mark Osborne
Cast: Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Ian McShane, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu, David Cross, Randall Duk Kim, Jackie Chan
Lights, camera, VPNaction! Elevate your movie nights with NordVPN. 🎥🔒secure your connection and Download NordVPN . Click now to unlock global cinematic thrills!
Kung Fu Panda may have a gimmicky title, but the sincerity of its storytelling is as effective as any DreamWorks animation released to date. Giant panda Po (Jack Black) is a humble restauranteur living in Ancient China who idolizes a quintet of kung fu masters known as the Furious Five. His dreams become a rude awakening when he stumbles his way into becoming the prophesized Dragon Warrior, and tasked with fighting off a vengeful snow leopard who wishes to obtain the all-powerful Dragon Scroll. Featuring vibrant animation and colorful voice performances from Black, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, and more, Kung Fu Panda delights in slapstick comedy while also delivering its timeless message in unique fashion. As EW's critic put it, "Just about all animated movies teach you to Believe in Yourself…but the image of a face-stuffing panda-turned-yowling Bruce Lee dervish is as unlikely, and touching, an advertisement for that message as we've seen in quite some time.
The Adventures of Tintin (2011)
EW grade: C (read the review)
Director: Steven Spielberg
Cast: Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Daniel Craig
Lights, camera, VPNaction! Elevate your movie nights with NordVPN. 🎥🔒secure your connection and Download NordVPN . Click now to unlock global cinematic thrills!
Bringing The Adventures of Tintin to life was decades in the making for director Steven Spielberg, who once referred to the comic book series as "Indiana Jones for kids." The action is set in 1950s Belgium as the inquisitive journalist Tintin (Jamie Bell) purchases a miniature model of a ship called the Unicorn, setting in motion a chaotic series of events that leads to him being kidnapped by a villainous ship collector. On board, he meets Capt. Archibald Haddock (Andy Serkis), whose ancestor was the captain of the real-life Unicorn. Bursting with a high-energy sense of adventure, Tintin is indeed a fun starter pack to the thrilling escapades of Indiana Jones, with dazzling CG animation that uses elements of motion capture. The film won the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature, and earned yet another Oscar nomination for John Williams for his original score.
Nimona (2023)
EW grade: B+ (read the review)
Directors: Nick Bruno and Troy Quane
Cast: Chloë Grace Moretz, Riz Ahmed, Eugene Lee Yang, Frances Conroy, Lorraine Toussaint, Beck Bennett, RuPaul, Indya Moore, Julio Torres, Sarah Sherman
Lights, camera, VPNaction! Elevate your movie nights with NordVPN. 🎥🔒secure your connection and Download NordVPN . Click now to unlock global cinematic thrills!
Blending medieval folklore and futuristic fantasy, this high-spirited adaptation of the 2015 graphic novel is more timely now than ever. Chloë Grace Moretz gives voice to Nimona, a mischievous shapeshifter who comes to the aid of Ballister Boldheart (Riz Ahmed), a knight who has since been ostracized by the kingdom due to his background as a commoner. Naturally, Nimona has her own history with being outcast, and the pair unravel a conspiracy that resulted in the queen's death. Featuring a powerful queer allegory, both Nimona and Ballister try to overcome prejudice from their community while forging a bond due to their circumstances. As EW's critic wrote, "The story admiringly delves into how such monsters are in fact created by a society that refuses to accept their differences." —Kevin Jacobsen

Asks! For... Prometheus, Indie, and Robin. (Sorry the asks aren't in order my copy paste board was messed up)
🎄 (you can opt out Prometheus if need be) 🐷, 💚,🍝,🍦, 🤔, 🧐, 💯,🎮
oooh thank you thank you thank you!! can't wait to dive in!
🎄 CHRISTMAS TREE — what is your oc's favorite holiday?
Robin: Christmas, for sure. She grew up in a great big Irish Catholic family, so it's always been a pretty important holiday to her, and once she and her siblings have grown up, it's generally the only time of year where everyone can get together at once.
Indie: I don't really know if there are holidays in the Star Wars universe, or what they would be. She definitely wouldn't enjoy festival holidays, because of the crowds
Prometheus: Christmas Eve. All the kids who celebrate Christmas are asleep, and dreaming of Santa Claus, presents, family, all the pleasant things they expect from tomorrow. It's the closest thing they have to a night off, really.
🐷 PIG FACE — what is your oc's favorite animal?
Robin: I mean, she's always had a connection to robins, given her name, but I feel like she's also been partial to canaries and the way they can sing two songs at once.
Indie: Does Zero count?
Prometheus: Barn owls, of course ;)
💚 GREEN HEART — does your oc prefer being inside or outside?
Robin: Inside
Indie: Inside (away from the crowds)
Prometheus: Outside
🍝 SPAGHETTI — what is/are your oc's favorite food(s)?
Robin: Boxty, it's her go-to comfort food. She also loves cheesecake, and she's got a fondness for boxed mac 'n cheese (it's a nostalgia food for one, and her go-to for a quick meal after a show)
Indie: I think she really likes any fresh fruits or vegetables - Corellia was too polluted for them, and everything in the Order was packaged for space travel, so she never really got the chance for genuine fresh food until she left the war.
Prometheus: This is going to sound like a cop-out, but pretty much anything. They're consistently amazed at how vibrant the Waking world is, and Waking food is no different. Though I think they're partial to the foods they tried on their first venture to the waking world (specialty coffee, sushi, a cheeseburger with fries)
🍦 SOFT ICE CREAM — what is/are your oc's favorite ice cream flavor(s)?
Robin: Mint chocolate chip, or Ben & Jerry's Cookies and Cream Cheesecake Core
Indie: (just gonna pretend Star Wars has ice cream) she'd be a classic chocolate girl all the way. Maybe rocky road if she was feeling adventurous.
Prometheus: I think they'd love coffee ice cream or anything with caramel, but I also think they'd be the person to try something different every time instead of sticking to a favorite
🤔 THINKING FACE — what are some of your oc's quirks/mannerisms?
Robin: she usually walks around barefoot, or trails her fingers across the wall as she walks. When she's bored, she tends to "fidget" with the sound waves around her - this doesn't usually do much, but she's accidentally muted entire conversations once or twice. Whoops.
Indie: if she's wearing her tool belt, she'll tap her fingers along the tools as a way to keep track of them. When she gets agitated or stressed, she tends to lose control of her words and ramble. She's the type to duck and weave through a crowd instead of standing and waiting for them to move along.
Prometheus: they always have fire with them - usually their torch, or a small lighter when they're in the Waking world. They're great at delivering physical contact in a comforting context (i.e. calming a frightened child), but struggle to initiate contact in a romantic context. They don't freeze up much in the Dreaming, they've seen it all, but even the smallest things in the Waking world can wow them.
🧐 FACE WITH MONOCLE — is your oc more logical or emotional?
Robin: Can be logical, but her decisions are often fueled by emotion
Indie: Logical, because she has to be.
Prometheus: Would view themself as logical, but actually more emotional
💯 HUNDRED POINTS SYMBOL — share three random facts about your oc that others may not know.
Robin: Cicadas freak her out, but she's fine with other bugs. She has a faint Deaf accent that gets a little stronger when she's not using her ability to process the sound waves. She's bisexual but probably not very aware of it - everyone develops crushes on all of their castmates when they do a show, right?
Indie: Her habit of rambling stems from her childhood on Corellia - her guardian would tell her to "plead her case" when she made a mistake, but wouldn't give her enough time to actually explain, so she ended up with the habit of tumbling over her words when she's stressed. When she was on Batuu, she had to wear a fake wedding ring because she kept getting hit on by the Lieutenants in training there. She genuinely loves to draw but hardly has the time for it.
Prometheus: They only have a shadow when in the Waking world. Their eyes have a perpetual "spark", like the reflection you can see when someone looks into a campfire. They're a very good fighter, but they HATE guns and artillery because it feels unfair - they'd prefer a classical fight, skill against skill.
🎮 VIDEO GAME CONTROLLER — what are three of your oc's favorite hobbies?
Robin: Singing, practicing piano, playing vintage arcade games (not that they were vintage in her time... you know what I mean)
Indie: Drawing, gardening (once she gets out of the war), and tinkering
Prometheus: Hobbies? What are hobbies?

Tag Game!
thank you @rhyslahey for the tag! i don't think i've been tagged in this one before :D
Comfort Film: It's either Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron or Peter Rabbit (rowdy's favourite film because he's a rabbit and peter rabbit is mostly rabbits) (i like watching it with him once in a while)
But i don't watch films as often so my main comfort piece of media comes in the form of kids shows that i used to watch as a kid... (like Oswald the Octopus, Barbapapa, Tom and Jerry)
Comfort Food: Cereal, Sandwiches (Tuna or Cream Cheese + Fish and Chilli flakes or just a chocolate spread (not nutella))
Comfort Clothes: This specific set of clothes designated as 'home clothes' in my wardrobe. Just some old t-shirts and basketball shorts + a few joggers and other types of pants. Stuff that's airy and simple because its so warm here all the time.
Comfort Song: Depends on the type of comfort I want. Sometimes it's game osts, sometimes it's songs I've known and cherished for the longest time, sometimes it's this one playlist that's on youtube. (or any of the other playlists on this channel, they all bring me a lot of comfort)
Comfort Book: War Horse by Michael Morpurgo or the How To Train Your Dragon series by Cressida Crowell. however I am missing one book from this series and it's big sad :( Oh and also The Adventures of Tin Tin series!!
Comfort Game: Minecraft!!! need I say more.
*softly pokes with a stick*: @jovialsandwichsoul @cmnzoq @nacreousgore @scribeoffate

National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day
Sure, everyone loves vanilla and strawberry, but Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day is all about trying something unique, like lavender ice cream or pickle ice cream.
Vanilla is often touted as the favorite flavor of ice cream, but we think that’s just because people haven’t been daring enough with their ice cream choices. National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day encourages you to take your taste buds to the rodeo and give a new flavor a try!
Learn about National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day
As the name suggests, the purpose of National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day is to branch away from vanilla ice cream and try something completely out-of-the-norm. It is up to you how far you go with this. For example, if you are someone who barely ever tries anything but vanilla, you may want to give mint choc chip a try or some rum and raisin ice cream.
For you, that may be pushing the boat out! For someone else, they may feel like they have already tried every sort of ice cream that is commercially available. If you fall into this category, then why not use National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day in order to come up with a flavor of ice cream that you’ve never tried before or seen in any stores?
You can go as wild and unusual as you like. You can try different flavors, such as adding herbs, like basil into the mix, and other different concoctions. It is up to you. Or, you could try and turn your favorite chocolate bar or candy into an ice cream treat? This is an approach that never fails. After all, if it tastes good as chocolate, the chances are that it is going to taste pretty amazing when turned into ice cream, right?
Did you know that Ben & Jerry’s receive more than 13,000 flavor suggestions from fans each year? They have published some of the weirdest suggestions they have received.
This includes Salty Licorice, which is vanilla ice cream, with swirls of salty and sweet licorice in order to create a black-and-white striped experience. Someone suggested Pepperoni flavor – a simple vanilla ice cream with chunks of candied pepperoni. Yum!
Although, we think we would probably rather eat that than the Gregarious Gorgonzola that was requested by one fan. They want dark chocolate ice cream that features gorgonzola cheese and raspberry jam. Another fan wanted Ben & Jerry’s to create macaroni ice cream, called Mac and Freeze. Oh, and we can’t forget about Spuds and Fudge, which would be chocolate ice cream with bits of candied French fries. Do any of these flavors float your boat?
History Of National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day
When people think about flavors of ice cream, they mostly think about what they can get off the grocery store shelves or from 31 flavors. When you take a moment to consider that ice cream was first invented in the 5th Century BC by the Ancient Greeks, and from there has traveled around the world and through every culture, you realize that the smattering of flavors you’ve experienced in your life is just the beginning. Somehow this seems like a perfect metaphor about our daily lives as well, don’t you think?
Do you like vanilla ice cream? Chocolate? What about strawberry? Chances are you love all these flavors, but have you ever considered saffron ice cream? What about rose flavored? These are just some of the flavors that were possible in years past, and doesn’t even begin to cover the absolute rainbow of flavors that come from fruits!
Of course, most of these probably don’t seem all that unusual or creative, do they? That’s ok! If you’re truly feeling adventurous you can try crab and oyster flavored ice cream, or garlic flavored!
How to celebrate National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day
National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day is best celebrated by buying a flavor of ice cream you’ve never tried and giving it a whirl, at least if you’re feeling lazy and not at all adventurous. The truly daring will instead buy a simple ice cream making machine and start coming up with all sorts of gastronomical alchemy within.
The extent of the flavors is really only limited by your own flavor palette and sense of adventure. We suggest trying rosemary ice cream, pickle flavored (sure to be a favorite amongst pregnant women), or even salmon flavored! Try anything you can think of, National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day encourages you to give it your all.
It is also a good idea to do a quick search online to see if there are any dessert parlors or restaurants in your area that have embraced National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day. A lot of restaurants will celebrate days like this, coming up with unique ice cream treats for their diners to try on a one-off basis.
You may find that they have a special ice cream or sundae running for this day or week, and so you could book a table for you and some of your friends and try out this new treat. After all, you will find that most of them are limited one-off creations, and so there will be no time to hang around.

Running Around Tuesday
This morning’s blood sugar was back up a couple of points to 165. After our coffee and brain games, Nancy and I took a quick walk of about 1.35 miles, which included a circuit of the magnolia garden. There’s a house in the neighborhood north of Thurston that we pass through on the way to the garden which already has some big balloon characters out on their lawn for Halloween. Which is more than a month and a half away still.
We got back in time for Nancy to call Peggy, her spiritual advisor, and while they were talking I took the car to get washed nearby. It was the first time for our new car, and the windshield especially needed some cleaning. So did the front end, which picked up quite a few bug parts during our Saturday trip to the coast and back. The outside was cleaned well, but an inside cleaning required an appointment, which we did not have. So we likely will not go to that car wash again.
For our breakfast brioche sandwiches, we cooked up some Jimmy Dean sausage we bought recently. They tasted pretty good, but the cooking smell lingered for several hours.
Nancy had an appointment for her TDP shot at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon at the Target on the west side of Eugene. We stopped by Costco on the way over to check up on getting our next COVID booster. We can make an appointment via Costco’s web portal, but we might wait until our Friday appointments with the new PCP to see if they can give us the shots.
We also got gas at while we were at Costco. At just after 1 p.m. there was no waiting on the self-serve side. The price was down to $3.15 per gallon, more than 30 cents lower altogether over recent weeks.
While we waited at Target for Nancy’s appointment time, we wandered about, getting in a few more steps, and also looked for another bathroom shelving unit to go over the toilet. The one we bought at Jerry’s not long after moving here is too flimsy. We did not have any luck at Target, but we found one on Amazon after getting home. It is supposed to arrive Thursday.
When we got home, we finished off the last of the delicious birthday pie. I immediately tried to think of a reason to ask Kathleen to make us another one, but she might do it if we simply ask politely.
For dinner we made a salad with some of the leftover Greek chicken. We chopped it into small pieces to make it easier to chew and threw in more feta cheese along with the lettuce and tomatoes. It went down easier than it did in bigger chunks yesterday.
I picked up Henry and went to men’s recovery meeting. The reading covered the topic of “thrill-seeking and adventure.” There was some good sharing, but I did not connect with the subject because I have not been one to seek thrills since getting into recovery. It’s not that life is boring, but I am not one who needs to sky dive or bungee jump to appreciate recovery.
After the meeting, Nancy and I streamed Colbert’s Monday night show, glad to be able to avoid the live debate between the presidential candidates this evening. We’ll get enough feedback on that from the usual media, including social. It’s not like we don’t know who we support. Then we wrapped up the evening with the newest episode of “Only Murders in the Building.”

Climax Foods won at the Good Food awards for their vegan cheese but they were disqualified! The rules claimed the product had to be retail ready and could nnot contain kokum butter. Riley Keough and Elvis Presley Enterprises had to put a halt to a company called Naussany Investments and their attempt to auction off Graceland. So.. Harrison Butker, who I had never heard of, seems like a real pig. The Kansas City Chief seems completely unaware that he does not live in1824. He attacked pride month, the transgender community and working women. His commencement speech at the Benedictine college has been poo poo’d by nearly everyone including the college itself and especially the Benedictine sisters. They released a statement: The Catholic, Benedictine, liberal arts college don’t believe this represents what the founders envisioned. Instead of promoting unity, his comments seem to foster division. One of our concerns was the assertion that being a homemaker is the highest calling for a woman. We sisters have dedicated our lives to God and God’s people including many women whom we have taught and influenced over the past 160 years.** The NFL has also spoke up to let us know these are not their views.** The only people afraid of a strong, financially independent and successful female, is men like this. *****
Trump only seems to pay attention in court when they are looking at clips of Trump .** Why do we have to hear about the gas and his general odor? ** I can see why the man looks up to President Jackson because this sounds familiar. “He assumed upon himself authority and power not conferred by the constitution and laws, but in derogation of both.” - Andrew Jackson’s Senate censure which was removed 3 years later. ** Does Fox news know how a trial works? They sure want special treatment for their boy. They kept up the mantra: “Is this America?” Yes, the process is working. Duh?! ** Rod Blagojevich endorsed Trump. A bunch of the minions put on their red ties and showed up at the trial. J.D. Vance who once called out Trump is now one of the biggest VP wannabes. Is he a psychopath or did he also drink the flavor-aid? ** It seems that this is what it all comes down to. So many people think they can do any fucking thing they want with no consequences. Was he more influenced by Nietzsche or Cohn? ** As the defense began, witness Robert Costello was a smart ass to the judge and the courtroom was cleared. There is no respect for anyone. Trump vowed to testify but he did not. ** Eric was there every day and Don Jr. Showed up on the final day of testimony. On May 30, Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts. He will be sentenced in July. I know we’re all glad that he is starting to pay for his sins but we can’t drop the ball now. November is coming. **“I’m a very innocent man.” -Scary Clown 45/34. The trump trial is done and the Hunter Biden trial begins. ** Chad Daybell was also found guilty May 30, a great day for justice.
*****
Now that Trump has been found guilty, his cult members are angry. They do not seem to want to face reality. Why is violence always their answer? ** Justice has been served. Donald Trump is a racist, a homophobe, a grifter and a threat to this country. He can now add 1 more title to his list- a felon. - JB Pritzker ** People keep saying, “How can he run for President when he can’t even vote?” I do not understand this because from what I can tell, When a Florida resident is convicted, the state defers to the state the conviction came from. In NY, he CAN vote IF he is not incarcerated. But, I mean it’s time.. Lock him up. ** Social media went crazy with pics of Hillary outside the jail cell and gold Trump sneakers with ankle monitors. ** I wonder how many people in here have cars? - Trump
*****
Colbert called Trump’s campaign The complaining for Applause tour. ** DC Weekly is a publication out of Russia. It is said to be widely read by republicans. The paper loves to call the Truth Social crowd, “useful idiots.” When I hear Trump trying to make sense of what they, “believe,” It seems like wrestling with dementia. ** I nearly escaped death. - Trump ** I often think that the left gets so perplexed by some of the right is that this country should have progressed so much more by now. People should be much more educated now and with more knowledge there should be less racism and differences to fight over. There should be some common ideas we agree on but ignorance keeps that from happening. It is like the old slavers and successionists have just begat Trumpers.
*****
Truth Social lost $328 mil. ** So what is it? Is Biden a mastermind or is he a dottering old fool? Trump claims both. ** Trump issued a cease and desist for the Trump movie that premiered at Cannes. Of course he did. The man lives for court! It will be great publicity. ** This is my country. This guy wants to destroy it. -Robert DeNiro

New research shows that part of the River Nile was right near most of the pyramids at the time of construction. This would make transport so much easier. This answers one of the big questions.
*****
The Pace Program in Illinois is a new all -inclusive care for the elderly. The program, which should be available in June, will simplify access to services and prevent fragmented care. The elderly should be able to stay in their homes longer and things should be more streamlined. I sure hope this works because it can be a mess to get started in the system.
*****
David DePape who was found guilty of attempting to kidnap Paul Pelosi and was given 30 years.
*****
Every Rainbow Fades.
*****
El Califade Leon in Mexico City is the first taco stand to ever get a Michelin star.
*****
Richard Blumenthal informed us that Justice Alito had a ‘stop the steal’ sign at his house. He flew an upside- down flag outside his house in January along with other pro Trumpers to show support. Alito claims it was his wife (just like Menedez), retaliating against the Pro Biden neighbors. This is not the only flag that they flew. Other property flew the appeal to heaven flag. Dick Durbin has asked him to recuse himself from the Jan. 6 cases. He refuses! Pretty fucking unpatriotic Mr. Alito!! It figures that you would have no respect for our flag. ** Hey.. Thomas! Alito! Resign!!
*****
It turns out that RFK Jr. has a lifeless worm in his brain. A past divorce claimed he couldn’t earn much for the ex because of memory loss etc. from worm and mercury poisoning. Kevin Spacey and Rob Schneider have endorsed him. So... Candidates in their 80’s or in their 70’s with worm? What? ** RFK Jr. Says that he opposes gender affirming care and hormone therapy for minors. So.. Do you want the government in your life or not??
*****
Joe Biden is holding back some weapons to Israel just as Reagan and Bush did before him. ** The State Department gave $275 mil in aid to Ukraine. ** Oreos are being made again in Ukraine after the factory was repaired.

The Green Goblin (MTG) is at it again as she tries to belittle others. The house got heated and in retaliation, she was called a blonde bad built butch body.
*****
The Florida Republicans wanted Barron Trump to be at the convention this year since he is 18. The Republican convention will be held in Milwaukee July 15-18. Scary Clown 45 gave his blessing but Melania’s camp said, “no.” Apparently, he has prior commitments. ** Mike Johnson and other court jesters showed up dressed like Trump to support him in court. Talk about showboating! ** Jeff Sessions was back in the news when Michael Cohen testified about trying to quash investigations into campaign contributions. ** Cohen was stealing from the Trump organization. Cohen still lives in a Trump building. What?
*****
Cannes brought controversy this year. Francis Ford Coppola with Megalopolis and Kevin Costner with Horizon have bet their own $ on their epics. Other films include The Apprentice, about a younger Trump that stars Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn. The film is having trouble finding a distributor. Bird and The Substance are getting lots of buzz! There is also Kinds of Kindness and All we Imagine as light. Meryl Streep and George Lucas received honorary awards. There are rumors that the French media would release a list of alleged abusive actors and directors. ** Black Dog won the Un Certain Regard, Anora won the Pale d’Or, the women of Emilia Perez won best actress and Jesse Plemons took best actor. Best screenplay went to the Substance.
*****
Red Lobster has filed for bankruptcy and closed dozens of stores. Everybody blames the endless shrimp. I am telling you, it’s the biscuits. Switching to using frozen and not fresh makes all the difference. Besides, middle of the road eateries are falling away.

*****
Now that Barry is done, A Gene Cousineau film from prison would be great.
*****
If my uterus shot bullets, would you stop regulating it??
*****
The late- night hosts make fun of local news that all repeat the same lines. The latest was,” I can’t believe it’s May1st.” I grew up with the people who said this stuff all the time. This generic dialogue really works for those people. I have never really understood those who say the same things every year, are surprised when the first snow comes or wonder at how it gets dark so early. These things should no longer be a surprise to adults!
*****
Kristi Noem seems to have gone down for killing animals. I guess there is a limit! ** Her book was changed before it even came out. She talked of meeting Kim Jong Un but she didn’t and won’t admit it but took it out of the book? What other lies are in there?

Another lying abuser! ** Writer, producer Eric Weinberg has been charged with 28 counts of rape and sexual battery.

Get to Know Me Memes
Thanks for the tag, @afewbulbsshortofatanningbed! I'm procrastinating furiously, and I would absolutely so much rather do this than anything else right now.
Last Song: That Jack Harlow song except it's about chinchillas:
Favorite Color: Uhhh either hot pink, dark purple, or eye-searing teal.
Last Book: A Power Unbound by Freya Marske. This book has so many great bits, but also so many bits that were infuriating, inconsistent with established canon, broke previously established rules, or just plain made no sense, that it ended up being one of the worst books I've read in quite a while. It was at its best when it allowed the protagonists to be tender and intimate with each other, which meant that the last two chapters were the only ones that didn't make me want to thump my head gently against the wall.
Last Movie: No Time to Die. The tallwife and I decided it was time for us to finally sit down and (re)watch all five Daniel Craig Bond movies, and I gotta say, Casino Royale and Skyfall absolutely hold up---Skyfall in particular feels like a good movie, period, and the best Bond movie yet. The other three movies were entertaining but a hot mess. No Time to Die made many people furious with its ending, but I enjoyed Bond's character arc there, especially in the context of the four movies that preceded it, and especially because we'd watched the movies in rapid succession.
Last TV Show: Delicious in Dungeon, which is absolutely cuckoo bananas bonkers. Highly recommended. Anime on Netflix about a party of D&D-esque adventurers who are so broke that they have to make their way through the dungeon with zero money for provisions. The solution: cook and eat the monsters they slay! Every episode lovingly goes through the proper preparation methods and talks about the importance of eating balanced meals. If you miss original flavor Iron Chef and love D&D, you 1000% need to watch this show.
Sweet/Spicy/Savory: Savory!
Relationship Status: Le married
Last Thing I Googled: That chinchilla Tiktok
Current Obsession: Trying to slowly and painfully wrench my wardrobe around from "buy whatever's cheap and sort of fits" into something resembling a coherent aesthetic. And my true loves---romance novels in general and KJ Charles romance novels in particular---are never far from my mind.
Looking Forward To: Visiting @theglintoftherail and @etoilesombre in March, aaaaahhhh it's gonna be so great!
get to know me(me)
Three Ships: Jerry Crozier/Alec Pyne from Any Old Diamonds. Utterly obsessed with their dynamic. Kim Secretan/Will Darling from the Will Darling Adventures, because what's not to love about a twisty secretive angsty shit + stoic oblivious dude with a boatload of war trauma? Also Arthur/Eames from Inception, I will never not love that universe in general and those two in particular. Just thinking about them makes me want to reread weatherfront's Inception fics.
First Ship: Man, it was probably Todd/Neil from Dead Poets' Society? I watched that movie when I was 11 or 12 years old, and it hit me like a truck, but I had no way to express the horrible yearning I had for Neil to have a different ending, and for him and Todd to remain VERY CLOSE FRIENDS forever.
Currently Reading: King Solomon's Mines. Hilariously, am reading this for KJ Charles reasons, because Think of England is set in that universe and I want more background info on Archie Curtis's adventure-loving guncles. I enjoyed this a whole lot as a child (I think I first read it when I was 11?) and reading it as an adult is...an experience. Colonialism: What a drug!
Currently Watching: Delicious in Dungeon; also slowly catching up on Lower Decks (which is proceeding at a snail's pace because we don't have Paramount Plus, we watch an episode or two every few weeks at a friend's house).
Currently Craving: A Cosmic Crisp apple and some cheddar cheese. For whatever reason, my body has decided that This Is Food and very few other things are. Fuckin' bodies.
As always with these things, I'm not tagging anyone. Feel free to jump in if you, too, are in the mood to talk about yourself and are trying to put off actually thinking about or working on something.

The Milky Way (1940)
"The Milky Way" is a beautiful little animated short from back in 1940. It was produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). MGM's animation department created a series called "Happy Harmonies," and "The Milky Way" is one of the cartoons from that series. The film was produced by Rudolf Ising and Hugh Harman - two animators who bounced around from studio to studio throughout the Golden Age of Animation. It has received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Short Subject in 1940, which is a testament to its artistic and technical achievements.
Technique
One of the most distinctive features of the production technique was the use of a multiplane camera. This camera allowed different layers of animation cels to be filmed at varying distances from the camera, creating a sense of depth and dimension in the animation. This technique made the animation appear more three-dimensional and added depth to the scenes, giving it a unique and visually appealing quality. This was a groundbreaking technique at the time and contributed to the film's acclaim. The use of depth and dimension in the animation was achieved through the skillful manipulation of multiplane cameras, which allowed for more complex and visually impressive scenes. The film was notable for its imaginative use of animation to bring celestial imagery to life. Fireflies in the night sky form constellations that tell stories, showcasing a creative approach to storytelling and animation. The film emphasized artistic craftsmanship, using hand-drawn animation and meticulous painting techniques to create visually stunning scenes. The attention to detail and artistic creativity made "The Milky Way" stand out as a visually captivating work of art. The final result was a fully animated short film that combined hand-drawn characters and backgrounds with innovative multiplane camera techniques to create the illusion of depth and dimension. This was a labor-intensive and artistic process that was the standard for animated films of that era.
Representation
Three tiny kittens, who were deprived of milk as a consequence of misplacing their mittens, embark on an adventure to the Milky Way in a hot air balloon. During their cosmic journey, they encounter various celestial wonders, such as a lunar surface resembling cheese, a high-speed comet train, a Mars that shoots stars, and the prominent constellations of the Big and Little Dipper. The narrative is rich in fantastical elements as the kittens journey to the Milky Way in a hot air balloon and encounter a series of playful and comical events in outer space. The story highlights themes of curiosity, escapism, and the world of dreams and imagination, where the boundaries of reality are blurred. It showcases the joy of exploration, the unexpected twists that can occur in a dreamlike setting, and the humorous consequences of their actions. Overall, the story is a creative and lighthearted tale that appeals to the imagination and sense of wonder.
Reception
"The Milky Way" was shown in theaters as a theatrical animated short, typically as part of a larger program that included feature films. During the era in which it was released (the Golden Age of Animation), animated shorts were a common feature before the main movie, and they were highly anticipated and well-received by audiences. At the time of its original release, "The Milky Way" was likely received positively by audiences. It was a part of MGM's animated short film series, and these shorts often featured imaginative storytelling, humor, and memorable characters. "The Milky Way," in particular, was a playful adaptation of the nursery rhyme "The Three Little Kittens," which was familiar to many, making it relatable and enjoyable for viewers.
Today, "The Milky Way" is recognized as a classic animated short from the Golden Age of Animation. While it may not have the same level of fame as some other animated characters like Tom and Jerry (which were also produced by MGM), it is appreciated by animation enthusiasts, historians, and those with an interest in vintage animation. The response to such classic animated shorts like "The Milky Way" today is generally positive, as they hold historical and artistic significance in the world of animation. They are valued for their nostalgia and as examples of the creativity and artistry of the time.
