Sideline Support : Jeremiah Fisher x Reader
Description: Jeremiah Fisher is there for his girlfriend through win or lose. Looks at various situations where he’s there to support her, including 3 wins and 1 loss.
Warnings: mentions of injury, mentions of food/eating, sports, angry coaches, a couple curse words, stress/pressure, but otherwise fluff.
Y/n took a deep breath and tried to calm her mind.
Her team was relying on her to help guide them towards a win against their rivals.
Not only was she one of their best players, she was also a starter and the team captain.
Her coach and teammates all expected her to remain positive and encouraging no matter what happened.
Meanwhile they also simultaneously expected her to do her best and help her teammates do their best.
So it was crucial that she clear her mind before the match.
She had a big exam to study for tomorrow but that would have to wait until after the game.
She’d studied before hand as well, but had to stop a few hours prior to the match to switch mindsets and prepare for the game.
As she took another deep breath, she shook her head and pushed the air out through her lips making them vibrate.
She tossed her bag in her locker and locked it up.
As she stepped into the hall, she saw the lower team playing in the gym.
She wasn’t sure how the match was going, having had studied during it.
She knew her coach wouldn’t be pleased she hadn’t watched their other teams.
But she had family matters to attend to after she got home tonight.
So she decided to watch the last several points of this set to make up for it.
Y/n watched through the thin window in the gym door until it was safe for her to enter.
She crossed the hall and slipped into the gym once it was clear.
Y/n watched the last several points and cheered the team on.
She slipped back into the hallway as the team concluded their game and began setting up for varsity.
Y/n stretched a bit in the hallway as she greeted various teammates on their way into the gym.
Once she’d seen most of the girls, the others seemingly still in the training room, she went to fill up her water.
As she set the bottle down to screw the lid she felt someone wrap their arm over her shoulder.
She turned and glanced up with a smile, already knowing who it would be, “hey Jere”.
Jeremiah smiled back and winked, “hey beautiful, you ready?”
She took a deep breath and nodded.
“Hey, where’d the smile go?” Jeremiah teased, squeezing her shoulder and bringing her closer to him.
“You’ve got this babe” he encouraged, smiling down at her.
She felt her cheeks warm as she smiled softly, “it’s just a really important match tonight”.
“I know y/n/n” he nodded, “that’s why I’m here!”
She laughed and went back to screwing the lid on her bottle, “you always come Jeremiah”.
He chuckled, “okay fair, would you rather I only come to the ‘really important’ matches so it’s more meaningful?”
She heard the playful tone in his voice, especially as he recited her choice of words.
But she wanted him to be certain that she wanted him here as often as he could be.
“No!” She panicked, pushing him playfully as he smirked at her reaction.
“I love you coming to my games, you know that” she defended, “I’m just feeling the pressure tonight”.
Jeremiah hummed and gave her a sympathetic grin, “well, no matter what happens, I’m on your side”.
She nodded and smiled at him as she turned back to him, “I’m counting on it”.
“Front and center y/n/n” he promised, holding his pinky to her.
Y/n giggled and hooked their pinky fingers together, “front and center”.
“Tie me?” She asked, handing him her hair tie and putting her back to him.
Jeremiah chuckled as he suppressed the urge to make a joke.
Y/n caught on anyways and smacked his chest softly as she turned back to him when he was done and rolled her eyes.
“Y/n have you seen the ball cart?” One of her teammates called out.
“Oh, hi Jeremiah “ she added with a wave upon seeing him.
“Hi y/tm/n” Jere greeted kindly.
Y/n smiled, “it should’ve been out there. If not, there’s a spare varsity one by the third door to the storage room. I’ll help”
She turned back and smiled at Jeremiah.
“You’ve got this!” He beamed, giving her a soft peck on the cheek.
“Good luck!” He cheered to both of them as he slipped onto the gym
“Was there anything else missing?” Yn asked as she walked with y/tm/n to the storage room next to the home team’s locker room.
“Nope, jv had everything else ready” She answered, “I see Jeremiah came again”
Yn blushed and nodded as she pulled out the other ball cart from the corner.
“He’s like your own little cheerleader” she exclaimed
Yn laughed , “I mean yeah, he always has been. That’s just Jeremiah, he’s always so supportive, but he’s here for the whole team too not just me”.
“Girl the only reason he cares about the team is because you’re on it” He teammate giggled.
Y/n blushed and bit her lip bashfully.
“I mean, unlike most boyfriends who can be caught starting at our teammates whom they’re not with and checking out their asses, your boy only watches you” y/tm/n winked.
Yn blushed madly as she fumbled for words.
——Time Skip——
Y/n noticed the tension and sadness on her teammates’ faces as their coach walked away from the huddle to speak to the assistant coach in private.
She glanced at the scoreboard to see the timer as to how much time was left in this timeout.
As she turned back to her team, she whispered “hey, guys, look it’s okay. We’ve been down by far more before and still won”.
Her teammates rejected expressions didn’t change as they stared back at her.
“Okay, sappy sentiments over. Now, middles we need to stay strong at the net, we have to slow the hall down. Outsides and right side be ready for the tip, once or blocks get there they’re going to adjust” She advised.
The girls nodded with less dim eyes this time.
“We have to keep talking, don’t let the fact we’re down a few points bring the energy down. We’ve got this okay?” She asked hoping they did in fact have it, but it wasn’t up to her.
Her team agreed and did a small cheer before running back to the court.
As she got in her position she did a quick scan to look over at her boyfriend in order to calm herself.
The smile on Jeremiah’s face as they made eye contact worked perfectly for what she wanted and needed; her anxiety dissipating.
Y/n did her approach off the net and called for the setter to set her for an attack.
She watched as the ball left her teammates hands and waited until it hit the appropriate spot to begin her attacking footwork.
She felt weightless as she unconsciously did her approach, her arms swinging back flawlessly as she neared the net.
As she launched herself into the air, within milliseconds her eyes searched and located the open spot on the other side of the net and the center of the ball.
She lifted her arm up until her elbow was by her ear and hit the ball, her arm swinging forward as she swung through the attack.
As Y/n landed and began to prepare for the other team to give the ball back after passing it up, she watched the ball spike aggressively onto the gym floor just before the other team’s defensive specialist.
She let out an excited cheer as she turned around to face her teammates who were cheering and huddling together for her.
She let her teammates congratulate her and pat her on the back before they did a quick team cheer.
As she turned back to the net to get ready for the next point, her eyes cast over to Jeremiah.
It was clear he’d already been cheering with everyone else but when he saw her eyes on him he smiled even wider and cheered again.
She bit her lip and shook her head to clear her mind as she turned back to the game.
—— Time Skip——
Y/n stepped back from her team huddle as she steadied her breath.
It was match point.
It had been an intense and close match, the teams evenly skilled.
Their team had 23 and the away team had 24.
It was her serve.
If she missed it, it meant the other team won.
If she got it over and in, there was a chance her team could still win the point to tie.
If she got an ace or otherwise did an effective enough serve to keep the other team from sending the ball back, they’d be tied instantly without having to worry about her teammates doing anything that might meaning lsoing the point.
Three points and they’d win.
She could do three serves.
She’d don’t far more consecutive serves before; heck, she’d done back to back aces that were well into the twenties before.
But the pressure was high.
The outcome of this game would set the energy for the season.
It was not only that they were their rivals.
Because they were rivaling schools, it meant a lot of students showed up to support.
As such, there were so many watching her and it wasn’t just her team relying on her to do these serves.
It also meant if they lost the game that they’d have less of an attendance at the next games for the season.
Which would be disappointing in general but her team also got encouraged by the fan section during times they’d be down in points in a match.
So, less attendance meant less chances for that and more work for yn to handle herself.
Whenever she was as focused as she currently was, she could get in the zone.
In other words, she could block out everything and everyone.
She had to.
She had to focus on just her and the volleyball that would soon be in her palm.
If she focused on anything or anyone else, she would risk getting into her head too much and messing up.
Her coach and team knew this, hence why they’d had no problem with her stepping away during this timeout.
Jeremiah knew this as well, which was good because while he was normally her source of reliable encouragement and her rock, she needed it to be just her in this moment.
When she heard the buzz of the refs whistle, she nodded at her coach as they made silent eye contact.
As the other teammates huddled closer and cheered, she walked to the end line.
The line judge rolled y/n the volleyball before getting back into position to watch the court and make a ruling should it be required.
Instead of looking towards the crowd to see her boyfriend, she briefly glanced at her coach to check where he wanted her to serve.
Upon seeing him hiding two fingers from the other team with his clipboard blocking his hand from the net, she nodded once and turned her eyes back to the ball.
She knew the crowd would be cheering, something that drove her crazy during the games when the team serving had their own fan section yelling.
Most spectators who’d been to enough games or knew the sport better knew it was often best to be quiet for your team during the serve and loud when the other team was cheering.
But it was never truly silent as no matter what, someone didn’t know this.
And it being so early in the season, it certainly had to be very loud as no one had realized the trend yet.
But she knew Jere would be quiet for her.
He and Conrad would usually even try and shush people sometimes when it was an intense serving point.
Jeremiah had played a bit of volleyball himself casually during the summers.
Conrad, as always was more competitive with his playing of volleyball.
But both played football outside of summer, not volleyball.
That was y/N’s sport.
But their experiences helped them be great supporters and spectators for the matches.
Nonetheless, Yn was able to block out all of the support from everyone when needed.
Sure, that sounds weird.
But her mind could make it quiet, as if she was simply at practice just her, the net and her volleyball.
She was truly grateful for that skill tonight.
When the up ref blew his whistle to signal that she could begin her serve, she relied on her habitual response to begin and get prepared.
As she felt her auditory senses shut down unconsciously, she took a deep breath and then looked down at her feet as she bounced the ball exactly three times.
She narrowed her eyes on the volleyball as she steadied it in her out stretched y/n-d/h (your non-dominant hand).
Keeping with her typical routine, she spun the ball slightly until the brand/logo was facing her and perfectly centered.
She took another deep breath as she dropped her arm minimally and tossed the ball upwards.
With no sounds reverberating in her mind despite them being present to all others, she focused on watching the toss.
As it came down to the correct point, she began her quick approach towards it.
She let out the breath she was holding as her feet landed back on the floor and the ball crossed over the tape on the net.
The sounds of the gym came back to her effortlessly as she unconsciously adjusted her focus again.
However, it wasn’t needed.
For, the ball had been shanked out of the court by the receiving player on the opposing team.
The cheers she heard around her were such a stark contrast to the self imposed silence she had moments before.
She smiled and let her teammates pat her on the back and offer her congratulations on her way back to the end line.
She remained friendly but truly wasn’t listening anymore, already ready to repeat her previous behaviors.
Jeremiah smiled to himself as he watched Y/n side eye glance at their coach as she stood at the end line again.
He silently fiddled with his fingers inside the pocket of his hoodie as y/n took notice of her coaches two fingers on the clipboard and then their coach’s signal to do a short serve.
Jeremiah held his breath in anticipation as she turned her gaze back to the game.
He knew zone serving was already a skill not everyone had.
But that combined with a specific area of the zone was increasing the pressure.
And he knew his girl well enough to know she was feeling said pressure.
However, he let out his held breath as the ball tipped over the net and landed on the floor just on the other side of the net.
The crowd, Jeremiah included, errupted in excitement at the seemingly easily earned point.
Y/n wasn’t ready to celebrate yet though, and he knew why.
There was one more point to go.
They were only up by one and needed to be up by two to win
He watched as y/n glanced over to the other teams coach, waiting to see if they’d call a time out.
Sure enough, she was right in her expectation.
The other coach quickly signaled to the ref for a time out.
Y/n rolled the ball back to the line judge as she made her way to the benches.
Her coach encouraged her to drink some water as he reminded his team to be ready for the ball to come back over after the serve and not be standing around unprepared.
Y/n haphazardly tossed her bottle back down as she toon in his words.
“Y/n, just go back there and do your thing. No matter what, we fight until the ball hits the floor. But, let’s just end this game and go home alright?” He asked looking at Y/n
She nodded and she and her teammates cheered each other on.
——
Y/n nearly toppled over as her teammates rushed her upon winning the last point.
It hadn’t been off her serve, but rather off a back row attack she made during the last play of the long rally that took place after her serve.
Y/n smiled widely, excited to have won and proud of her performance tonight.
But her eyes nonetheless scanned for Jeremiah as the fans began to enter the court.
Suddenly she felt herself lifted into the air, a screech leaving her lips in surprise.
However, she quickly realized whose hands they were and giggled as he set her on his shoulders.
After a few short moments of celebration, Jeremiah set her down so she could go do the end routine of the game, such as acknowledging the other team and talking with her coach and team.
Yet when she left the team meeting and returned to the gym, she was again swung up into the air and spin around.
Jeremiah smiled widely at her as he spun in circles making her laugh.
He set her down and steadied her as he exclaimed, “you killed it y/n/n!”
She grinned shyly and walked into his embrace as she talked with him and a few other spectators.
—— Time Skip ——
“Stop telling me no” Jeremiah teased, tickling y/n.
She laughed and squirmed against his side but didn’t let go of the hold she had on his waist.
“Now, I’m going to try it again,” he huffed, smirking down at her as she cuddled against him as they walked to his car, “you were incredible tonight babe”.
As she opened her mouth to argue, he paused and turned slightly to give her a stern look; well as stern of one the constantly bubbly boy could manage.
She clicked her tongue and sighed, “fine, thank you Jere”.
Jeremiah rolled his eyes, “your team won the game y/n/n”.
“I know” she agreed, shrugging slightly as they resumed walking.
“Okay, I’m not Conrad. I don’t understand this whole ‘we won but I’m not happy’ thing” Jeremiah teased, but she could sense the slight disappointment he had over not knowing how to help and thinking Conrad would’ve.
She was the one to stop their departure this time, turning to face him and cupping his cheeks with her hands.
“I am very happy about that Jerebear, I love your positivity” she began, his cheeks becoming rosy at the nickname as he smiled bashfully.
“And I know I should just be happy, but I can’t help but see ways I could’ve done better” she explained softly with a small shrug to show him it wasn’t that belig of a deal.
“Like what?” Jeremiah asked, leaning further into her left palm.
She smiled at how adorable he was and hummed as she confided an example, “I missed most of my hits tonight Jere”.
He shrugged, “everyone has an off day”.
She nodded softly and gave him a thankful grin.
“Besides your off day is still far better than anyone’s normal day” he whispered, not wanting to start things with the players still leaving the gym behind them.
She laughed and genuinely smiled widely at him as she bit her bottom lip, “thank you handsome”.
He smirked, “that’s what I’m here for!”
As she opened her mouth to respond, she was once again cut off.
But this time not by an attempted glare from her boyfriend, but rather the sound of her empty stomach.
Jeremiah’s eyebrows shot upwards and he smirked again.
“Well, that and, that”. He said pointing to her stomach.
Her hands left his face as she crossed her arms over her stomach and giggled.
Jeremiah smiled and shook his head, tugging one of her hands back into his, “come on, let’s get you your victory dinner!”
Jeremiah pushed the plate of fries closer to y/n as he sipped on his drink.
She glanced up at him with a smile as she took another fry.
He silently pulled his phone out and took a picture, laughing as she scoffed at him.
“I had a fry halfway in my mouth!” She gasped.
Jeremiah shrugged, “still looked down right beautiful to me”.
She grinned, flattered, as he smirked at her.
“It doesn’t go on Snapchat though” she warned, tossing a fry at him.
He picked up the fry as it bounced off his chest and onto the table, quickly dropping it in his mouth with a satisfied grin.
“Nah, just my collection” he promised.
She didn’t even have to ask, she learned years ago before they even started dating that Jeremiah had a little folder of photos he’d taken of her over time that she had requested not be shared with others.
It ranged from her giving him an over dramatic smile whilst in bright pink braces, her poor attempt at being mad at Steven over something she doesn’t even recall having happened, and up to things like tonight where she had a fry hanging out of her mouth.
He loved them all as he claimed they showed all sides of her.
And while he wanted to show her off to the world, feeling she deserved all the attention, he selfishly didn’t mind keeping them private.
This way he knew her in a way no one else did, and he loved that.
Y/n finished a few more fries and then lifted her phone of the table to snap a photo of him.
Jeremiah merely held up his burger for the photo and grinned.
She giggled and looked at the picture, “now for a caption….”
Without missing a beat, Jeremiah mumbled, “dinner of champions” through the food he had in his mouth.
Y/n slapped her hand on her face as she shook her head, “you’re so freaking sweet”.
He laughed as he wiped his face with the napkin next to him before reaching over and grabbing her hand.
“I mean seriously,” she began before he could respond, “how are you this sweet and hot? It’s insane”.
Jeremiah laughed loudly as his dimples deepened and cheeks flushed crimson, his blue eyes alight with glee as he tried to calmly brush off the compliment.
“If one of the other girls ties to steal you I’m quitting the program” she said leaning over and sipping from his drink, “I’m dead serious”
Jeremiah shook his head, squeezing her hand, “no one could ever steal me from you y/n/n. I’ve loved you for years, gorgeous”.
She beamed, “I’m just saying, I will”.
He laughed and shook his head, “don’t quit, I like being on the sidelines for your games”.
“And I love you being there Jerebear, but I’m more protective than I am competitive” she smirked, “so if a bi-“
Jeremiah laughed and held his free hand over her lips, tenderly stroking her jaw with his thumb.
“you have my word, you’re the only one I want to be with and cheering on, babe” he swore, smiling at her.
—— Time Skip——
“Hey, have you seen y/n?” Jeremiah asked y/tm/n gleefully as he nearly ran into them on his third circle of the gym.
“Oh, hey,” y/tm/n laughed, “uhh yeah I did. I believe she’s still in the athletic room getting taped!”
Jeremiah tried to hide his concern and forced a kind smile and nodded at y/N’s teammate , “thanks y/tm/n”
“Of course, but just so you know, we’ll be staring warm ups soon” she warned, as if he wasn’t already aware
That’s precisely what had him worried.
It wasn’t uncommon for her to go to the trainer and get her shoulder tapped as she often over did it and would strain the muscle.
But, that usually only took a few minutes and was so routine she would get it done as soon as she got to the gym and not this close to her match.
Just in case she was advised to ice before hand for swelling, so it had time to safely warm back up before their actual warm ups.
Plus, he knew she had her shoulder taped the day before last, prior to the last game and the tape used for her shoulder lasted several days.
So he tried, but failed, not to sprint down the hall to the training room.
As he slid to a stop in the doorway, his eager eyes found her instantly.
She was sitting up on one of the med tables, propping her leg up as the main trainer was apply athletic tape to her knee.
He stood awkwardly in the door, knowing as he didn’t go to the same school nor was he an injured player, he didn’t have a permission to enter.
However, one of younger players from the lower team spotted him and called for y/N’s attention.
Jeremiah sighed and mouthed sorry to y/n as she turned to face him.
She shook her head softly and smiles to say it was okay
After examining what stage the trainer was at with the tape she looked back at Jeremiah and held up one finger with the offer of another small smile.
He nodded eagerly and took a few steps out of the doorway so someone else could come and go if needed and instead rested against the bricks next to the sign to the room.
As she stepped out into the hall, he promptly spun to face her, his hands instantly finding her upper biceps as he glanced at her knee worriedly.
“Jere” she giggled, “it’s not a big deal! I’m okay I promise”.
He nodded slowly as he looked back up at her, “then..?”
She kissed his cheek softly, “you know how my knees are. I just was helping jv warm up and it must’ve twisted wrong”.
“Are you okay?” He asked his eyes widening again.
She giggled and stoked his cheek, “yes honey, I just said I’m fine. Relax. Besides I’ve had worse”.
The unamused look he gave her made her sigh softly, “Jeremiah, I promise you, I’m okay. I iced immediately and it’s had time to warm up since then so I don’t do the ball handling drills cold, and y/t/n taped it to add support, plus the knee pads should offer protection too.”.
He let out a sigh of relief as he took in her words.
“You’re still going to play?” He asked, not as a judgment nor in disappointment, but just to be sure.
“I was cleared, I’ll be careful though” she assured him with a smile.
He nodded, “no, I - that’s great, I’m glad you’re playing”.
“Why wouldn’t she be?” Conrad’s voice called out as he suddenly appeared behind his brother.
“Oh, hey Con” she greeted him with a hug.
Jere pointed at her knee, the tape sticking out of her knee pad .
“Oof” Conrad commented, “probably shouldn’t say break a leg then huh?”
Jeremiah smacked the back of his brother’s head, “that’s not even for sports, you ass”.
Y/n giggled before kindly excusing herself to go to her team.
Conrad rolled his eyes as he watched his brother cautiously watching the way Y/n landed each time, making sure her knee wasn’t twisting wrong or buckling under her as she landers.
“What would you even do?” Con teased.
Jeremiah turned to him as the next point was awarded, “What?”
“If something did happen, what would you do? Rush the court to carry her to the trainer five feet away?” Conrad joked, trying to get him to relax.
“I don’t know man, shut up” Jere replied with an embarrassed laugh as he realized he was being perhaps a bit over protective.
“That was impressive!” Conrad greeted as Jeremiah cautiously set Y/n back on the ground, eyes watching her knee the whole time.
She smiled, squeezing her boyfriends arm to calm him as she thanked Conrad.
“I’ll go get your bag” Jeremiah offered, kissing her cheek before going to grab her stuff she’d set by her chair prior to the match.
Y/n watched him greet her teammates that were still around after the meeting as he grabbed her bag.
Turning to his brother she pursed her lips, “how was he?”
“How do you think?” Conrad smirked, but when he saw the guilt on her face he laughed softly to break the tension.
“He’s fine, just cautious” Conrad added, “don’t worry”.
She sighed softly and nodded, looking down at her leg, “probably shouldn’t mention it’s throbbing right now then”.
“Do you need the trainer?” Con asked, eyes on her knee just as Jere’s had been all night.
“No, no, it’s expected. I just need to ice when I get back and -“ she began
Suddenly her bag was sitting beside her on the ground as she took in a gasp of air when her boyfriend lifted her up upon his return.
“Jere!” She giggled as she coughed her breath
“I heard you” he advised, raising an eyebrow at her as he secured his arms under her, “Con, can you get her bag?”
She rolled her eyes softly, “I don’t need carried though”.
“Hmmm, I disagree, can’t have my girl in more pain, now let’s get you home?” Jeremiah questioned softly.
“Jesus babe, what part of you isn’t taped?” Jeremiah huffed as he stood before her.
She glanced up from the bench as she finished adding another band of tape to her lower knuckle.
“Hey cutie” she blew a kiss before going back to her task.
“Let me” he offered, kneeling and taking the tape from her.
As she held her hand out to him, he focused intently on having the applied tape securely support her fingers without being too tight for circulation.
She smiled at him as the tip of his tongue peaked out against his bottom lip slightly as he focused so deeply.
“Thank you handsome” she replied as he looked up upon finishing taping her hand.
He nodded with a smile, placing a kiss to her knuckles before letting go of her hand.
“Mmm, I know that look” he said, still kneeling before her as she sat on the bench.
She forced a smile and he sighed with a raised eyebrow to show he wasn’t convinced.
“Coach y/c/n was getting on us. Practice last night didn’t go well and now he’s mad and worried we won’t do well” she sighed.
Jere nodded, “and now you’re having to convince everyone to be positive while he’s being a grump?”
She giggled softly and nodded, “yeah, pretty much. But to make it worse, if we lose this game…”
“You don’t go to districts” he said, completing her sentence for her.
She nodded with a sad sigh, “no pressure right?”
“Honey, just focus on playing your best and having fun. The rest will follow. I know they’re a good team “ he said seeing the look in her eyes, “but so is yours. Most important thing is you enjoy the game. If it ends up being the last, you don’t want it to be made worse by not having at least enjoyed it”
She hugged him and nodded against his shoulder, “you’re right, thank you sunshine”.
Tightening her ponytail in frustration, she glanced to the crowd to look for Jeremiah.
He gave her a sympathetic curl of his lips and nodded in silent understanding.
She sighed and turned back to game.
“Okay..” she whispered.
Her teammate heard and quietly agreed, “yeah..”
Y/n threw herself across the gym floor in a futile attempt to go for a ball that certainly wasn’t hers.
She wanted to cry in frustration as she watched the ball hit the floor several inches away from her outstretched hand.
The blow of the ref’s whistle made her close her eyes to keep calm as she stood back up.
She felt her knee and shoulder scream from the inelegant way she had gone after the last ball.
But she resisted the temptation to sit down on the bench and call it quits.
She instead, took a shaky breath through the pain and focused on the other side of the net; not brave enough to see if Jere had noticed her pain.
Y/n still had her head hung when Jeremiah reached her.
She’d minimally acknowledged the teammates who’d all patted her back given her seemingly frozen posture upon their loss.
Their coach wasn’t known for handling losses well and tonight was another reminder of that.
As captain, she already felt responsible but even more so after his inappropriate screaming over their loss.
So when Jeremiah reached her and placed his hands on her back, she barley noticed.
However, she opened her eyes upon feeling the warmth and texture of the hand she knew so well seeping through her jersey.
She saw his shoes before her as his hand rubbed her back.
When she calmed down some, she was able to now hear he’d been whispering soft words of encouragement to her.
She leaned back and looked up at him with tears in her eyes.
“Oh y/n/n, no, please don’t cry” he pleaded as he dropped to his knees before her and wiped them away with his thumb.
“I’m sorry Jere,” she mumbled.
“You don’t need to apologize for crying Y/n. I just don’t want you feeling like this is all” Jeremiah explained kindly.
“No, I’m not apologizing for crying Jere” she argued quietly.
He rose an eyebrow at her, “why then?”
“We,…I, lost” y/n reminded him.
“So? It’s not on you , and even if it were, why apologize to me?” Jeremiah pondered aloud.
She sniffled, “you came all this way to support me and we didn’t even-“
“Hey now,” he took a deep breath, “babe, I’m here for you; win or loss. I didn’t come here to see you win. I came hear to see you. That’s all “.
“Are you sure?” She whispered wearily.
“Extremely” Jeremiah declared.
She smiled tenderly and touched his cheek, making him smile.
“I’ll always be on your side no matter what.” He assured her.

“hi,” he smiles lightly. the past few months have been nearly impossible. trying to crack conrad open is like trying to break into a safe. it took y/n forever to be able to understand conrad, and now that she finally did, there was an undeniable spark. she could sense the tension in his mind, knowing that something had set him off. he looked like he just wanted to break down, but he didn’t want to. if he did, he doesn’t know how to put himself back together.
“you ok?” she asks, cautiously. he’s almost like a wild animal, get too close and he runs away. especially since susannah died, he hasn’t been able to find a connection like the one he had with his mother.
“fine,” he mumbles, folding a few blankets onto the couch and placing some pillows beside it.
“conrad, don’t play this game with me again,” y/n sighs, stepping closer to him. he pauses in his movements to look up at her, slapping one last piece of decor on the mantle. “can we at least talk about the exam?”
“i, um,” he stutters, unable to find the right words that have disappeared in his mind. it’s like he completely pushed out the exam, all the other events had forcefully taken the excitement from it. “i feel really good about it, but it’s just an exam.”
y/n can tell in his slumped stance that something is truly disturbing him. he looks broken, and whoever did it certainly failed to put the pieces back together. it appears that they didn’t even try. “talk to me, conrad. please?”
he stops, breaking eye contact. he can’t look at her while he tells her because she can’t see his face when he says it. he doesn’t want y/n to see him crack under the pressure again.
“jeremiah and belly were making out on my car when i came out of testing. i walked out and there they were.”
“what?” y/n spits out, thinking about everything belly had told her before. “i thought she said she moved on-“
“yeah, i did, too,” his voice breaks, still avoiding any looks to y/n. if y/n sees him falling apart over belly, y/n would probably say something. the last thing conrad wants is for belly to know the affect this had on him.
“conrad, you know you can talk to me, right?” she steps closer, wanting to reach out her hand to him but knowing he probably doesn’t want it. he wants belly’s. “anything you say to me won’t get back to her.”
he slightly turns, finally letting his eyes wander up y/n’s body until they meet hers. he’s always found a trust in y/n. she’s been there since they were little kids, but it’s always felt different. there was an innocence to her, she felt like home and he could always run back to her if he needed her. he wouldn’t be able to handle it if he ruined that.
“i’m just so tired, y/n. it’s just one step forward and two steps back. i thought we could finally be over this, but they both just stabbed me in the back. on my car, during my test, in my hoodie. my mom always said belly was destined for me, but it just feels like jere took that.”
y/n can feel the hurt as well as see it on conrad’s face. she’s able to read him so well now that he’s not afraid to open up. she feels like they’ve gotten through a door, a point where they can share secrets and find a safety net in the other. “belly doesn’t deserve you, conrad. she’s not as mature as you, and you can thrive without her, i swear.”
“i’ll be ok, i just need a break from all this shit,” he groans, allowing y/n to finally walk up to him and hold his hand. “i don’t know if we can go back to the way things were after this.”
“i know i can’t change what happened, but i need you to understand that you’re not alone. at this point, you come first to me.” he nods, and y/n can see the sunrise in his face a bit more, but his mind is still covered with darkness. “if you need anything, please call me or come see me, ok?”
“deal,” he cracks a little grin, making y/n smile a bit in return.
“take care of yourself, connie,” she says before opening the front door. she starts the long drive home knowing what’s waiting for her there.
she plants her stuff down on the counter, letting her body relax after the hours behind the wheel. she starts to clean up some of the mess that she left on the counter when she hears squeaky footsteps come down the stairs.
“hey, you’re back already?” belly says, lurking into the kitchen to lean against the frame. y/n doesn’t say anything, she just looks at her and continues to organize everything. “what’s wrong, why do you look like that?”
“honestly, belly, i’m just trying to figure out what to say to you.”
“what do you mean?” belly asks, trying to think about why her older sister could have a reason to be mad at her.
“i stopped at cousins on the way home,” y/n informs her, belly knowing exactly where she left conrad.
“y/n, you can’t be pissed off because of what he told you-“
“no, belly, i have every right to be pissed. i’m pissed for conrad. you left him in the dust and you have no shame about it.”
“it just happened, jeremiah and i. i never wanted to hurt conrad, but im in love!”
“yeah, you were also in love last week with conrad. and the week before with jeremiah. you need to move on from them, bell,” y/n sighs, allowing belly some time to build another response.
“who are you to even say that?”
“because i’ve been there for both of them! i was there for jeremiah when you wanted conrad. i’m there for conrad because you are playing with their hearts like they’re toys. i can tell your hearts not fully in it with jeremiah, but i’m not gonna let you destroy those boys even more.”
“how am i destroying them?”
“belly, wipe that innocence off your face. you’ve managed to rip apart the fisher brothers because you cannot pick which one you like more.”
“but-“
“no, belly! listen to me,” y/n cuts her off before she can try and make anything better. “you couldn’t even contain yourself at susannah’s funeral because you were too worried about conrad. i know we are all grieving, but you are acting like you’re more worried about which brother likes you more. it’s exhausting having to clean up the mess you make over and over again. you’re slowly ruining this bond for me, for steven, for mom! you know i love you more than words, but if you keep playing with their feelings, belly, this family is going to be destroyed.”
“y/n, susannah told me-“
“use susannah as an excuse one more fucking time, belly.” the room goes deadly silent, y/n sick of the excuses and victimized mentality of belly. when steven comes stepping quietly into the room, he ganders softly into the chaotic mess that has formed between his sisters. she swipes her keys back off the table, grabbing an extra bag out of the closet. “i’ll be back.”
“where are you going?” belly says, eyes full of tears from her fear of confrontation. her voice was shaky, and y/n could still feel a sting of guilt in her chest. she hated to build a bigger wall between everyone, but belly had to hear it.
“i’m going to look after conrad, because you failed to do it,” y/n ends their conversation, slamming the front door behind her and moving to the car. she left the house with a terrible tone, but someone else needed her more. belly had jeremiah, taylor, steven, laurel, anyone she wanted. conrad had y/n, and that became enough for him.

requested: y- “Can you do a conrad fisher x reader where the readers family has a house next to theirs so they grew up going to cousins for the summers (cons age), and they are in love w each other but don’t want to admit it and everyone notices it around them/teases them. maybe a flash ward to their wedding in a couple of years and everyone’s speeches are like “yeah i won the bet they would be married by now” or smth like that?“
pairings: conrad fisher x fem!reader
warnings: fluff + jokes
a/n: I hope I did this justice anon! xx there are NO spoilers of book 2 or season 2!
you can hear his voice. it’s muffled, he sounds like he’s in your kitchen, a blessing of having the bedroom right above it, but you can hear him talking to your mother.
you don’t have time to think, you just fling your legs over your mattress and rush down the stairs at an appropriate pace. you’d just woke up, maybe not your best state to be in, but you couldn’t wait to see conrad fisher. the boy next door.
he’d gone to Princeton, smart cookie if you say so yourself, and you hadn’t seen him since last summer. in fact, you only saw him maybe once or twice outside of the neighborhood and that was getting ice cream and groceries. other than that, you live by the fence that separates your yards waiting to hear the laughter and conversations from the Conklin and fisher kids.
“just tomatoes? are you sure? I can go pick out some basil—“
“no, no laurel will kill you if you do any more yard work! I can get it.” you hear conrad protest. the fisher family was used to your parents generosity, the beautiful vegetable garden grew right on the fisher/y/l/n house line, the family was more than welcome to eat and take whatever they wanted, but it didn’t stop them from being kind enough to ask. Susannah raised those boys right.
“are you sure?”
“what’s going on?” you ask, it’s like the words floated out of you when you saw him. his brown hair a little longer than normal, his t-shirt a bit smaller on him, and he’s wearing small navy blue swim trunks. a sight to make any girl swoon for a fisher.
“oh, y/n, do you think you can help conrad get some more tomatoes from the vines? it seems to be the fisher-Conklin clan has run out.” your mother hands you Susannah’s woven basket that conrad was once holding. your mother looks at you with pleading eyes but she knows you’ll do anything that has conrad fisher involved.
“happy to.” you take the basket in your hand and gesture for conrad to follow. he thanks your mother once again and follows along out the back door. you can hear not only just your heartbeat, but the blood rushing to your ears.
being alone with Conrad was sometimes awkward. at least to you it always felt that way, because you never knew how to be around him as yourself. you were so deeply in love with him that just being in his presence was enough to make you fumble over your words.
“here I can get the tomatoes.” conrad pushes past you, his shoulder brushing against your body, you could smell his cologne, the salty ocean in his hair, and the mixture of the laundry detergent Susannah uses. it was an intoxicating smell, one to make your world spin.
“you sure? they are kind of all over the place.” you chuckle setting the basket down into the grass. you start picking the beautiful blush red ones and gently place them in the basket along side the ones conrad was picking. every so often your hands would brush or you’d about pick the same tomato. you both would blush and apologize instantly for the connection.
“would you guys just kiss already! you’re making me nauseous.” Jeremiah calls over the fence line from the pool, he’s watched about every embarrassing second of you and his brothers interactions.
“come on, con!” Steven hollers, it’s loud enough for the neighbors on the other side of their house to snicker at the boys energy for far too early in the morning.
“I don’t know what their problem is.” Conrad says and it’s only for you two to hear. he’s picked up the basket from the grass now, you’re stuck with holding a few more tomatoes that he claims would be more than enough for everyone.
“no seriously, just keep those ones.”
“we have enough inside, just take them—“
“fine,” he huffs out an annoyed sigh and watches you dump them into the basket, “can I at least make you breakfast with them?”
“sounds like a plan to me.”
that day, he made you more than breakfast. he made you feel the most indescribable feeling of love and excitement. he left you walking home as beat red as those tomatoes you picked. you could thank Steven and Jeremiah for their pressure and tease, because conrad fisher did in fact kiss you that morning.
—
FUTURE
“I’m so happy for these guys because today I became twenty dollars richer,” Jeremiah pauses, the laughter of friends and family make you both blush, “so thank you Steven for believing they would never get married. here’s to the bride and the groom!” Jeremiah holds his champagne glass up, others in the room follow.
“you really bet we would get married?” Conrad turns to his brother who passes the microphone to belly before sitting down beside him.
Jeremiah’s hands clap his brothers shoulder, “we also made a bet that you’d kiss her that summer. belly also made a bet that you’d have tomatoes on the menu, looks like you guys are the most predictable couple ever.”

Summary: Being Belly & Steven’s older sibling has it’s pros and cons. Protecting them and taking care of them is a must, but do you really have to put their feelings first instead of your own?
Next | Conrad Fisher x fem!reader | My blog
Warning: comparing, angst, conrad being a two timer (?), fluff, physical touch. (lmk if i missed anything!)
───────────────────────────
I never thought that I would have this talk with Conrad. I didn’t except for any of these to happen, we were all just trying to have fun, but I realized that we’re all grown ups now, we’re not the same kids as we were back then and that’s what i hated.
“Connie? is that you?” I asked, feeling Conrad’s presence.
Conrad entered the kitchen with a gentle smile, walking towards the fridge to get a drink. “Hey, what’s up?” he turned to me — tilting his head a little bit, still smiling.
“Oh I just wanted to talk” I told him, not looking at him in the eyes.
“Oh okay, what are we gonna talk about?” Conrad walked towards me and sat beside me — pulling his seat closer to mine.
I turned to my side so I can talk to him clearly, “It’s about us, about you and Belly” I looked at him, his gentle smile now faltering, his brows started to furrow. The room now filled with silence and the only thing I can hear was my own heart beating fast.
“What about me and Belly?” Conrad looked into my eyes trying to search for something — trying to see what I really meant.
“You… you know you need to make up your mind soon, right Conrad?” I looked down at my fingers and started to play with my rings, I didn’t want to look at him, I couldn’t look at him.
“Make up my mind about what? you are confusing me Y/N” Conrad pulled me closer to him.
Conrad knew what I was talking about, he just didn’t want to talk about it or acknowledge it because he never wanted this to happen, he never wanted to like both of his bestfriends.
“I know that you are starting to like Belly” I backed away from him — not wanting to hurt myself more.
“What are you talking about? I am close with Belly but..” Conrad was trying to find words, he knew he can’t deny it because it was true, he can’t lie to to me, he know’s he can’t.
I looked at him and took his hand as a sign of reassurance “You don’t have to lie to me you know?” it’ll just hurt me more if he did, he knows it would.
Conrad looked into my eyes — his brows still furrowed — he swallowed hard and said “I do.. I do like Belly, but I like you too”.
I closed my eyes “You have to choose Conrad, please” I stood up and started to walk towards the window.
Conrad started walking towards me, trying to reach for my hand, “I don’t want to choose, please don’t make me choose. I can’t lose either of you, Y/N”
“You know you won’t lose me, Conrad. Belly’s my sister, I don’t want to hurt her, so please choose.” part of me hoping that he would choose me, but I know that he knew what I was implying. He knew that i’d want him to choose Belly instead.
It was always him and Belly, not me and him. at least that’s what mom said, she always liked Belly and Conrad together, but Susannah thought otherwise. Susannah knew what we had ever since we were little, she always liked me and Conrad together.
“I will think about it, okay?” Conrad said.
I nodded and walked away before I felt my tears fall down my face.
───────────────────────────
It was the night after me and Conrad talked. I was laying down when Jeremiah knocked on my door and asked me if he can come in.
“Hey Y/N, can I come in?”
“Come in, Jere” I sat up to give him space to sit on.
“Hey pretty girl. You seem down, are you okay?” Jeremiah sat down in front of me and asked me with a gentle smile.
I smiled at him “I guess? i dont really know. there’s just a lot of things going on and it’s just exhausting for me” I plopped down and laid on my back.
“Well do you want to talk about it? yk i’ll listen” Jeremiah pushed me to the side gently so that he can lay down beside me.
Jeremiah and I have this special bond that Laurel and Susannah loves. We are each other’s rock, each other’s bestfriend. We are there for each other when no one else is.
I sighed, “I gues it’s just hard for me. there’s just a lot of things happening, Susannah getting sick, me having to choose what I want for college and now this Conrad thing”
“Oh what about Conrad huh?” he said teasingly — nudging me with his elbow.
“It’s not like that, Jere” I wish it was. I sure did wish it was like that.
“Well then what about it?” his gentle smile now faltering, he turned to his side facing me.
“Me and Conrad talked, I told him to choose between me and Belly” now it was was me turning to my side to face him.
“What? why? why would you do that?” Jeremiah sat up confused and raising his voice a little, causing me to sit up too.
I took a deep breath, “Conrad’s starting to like Belly”.
“What do you mean? he likes you Y/N, it’s so obvious that he does” he said frowning.
That’s true, i know that’s true “Well who can’t not fall inlove with Belly, she’s amazing Jere.” and that’s true as well
“Well, what are you going to do now?” Jeremiah’s voice laced with worry, he knew I was hurting, god he knows all of the emotions I am feeling right now.
“She’s my sister, Jere. I’d be way happier if Conrad chose her.”
“She’s very important to me, I am supposed to protect her not hurt her”
“But you are hurting too Y/N” Jeremiah said concerned.
“I know but i’ll get over it, as long as she is happy, as long as my siblings are happy, i’ll get over it. Even if it takes me to let go of that someone for my sister.” and that someone is Conrad.
───────────────────────────
Me and Jeremiah talked all night long, not knowing that Conrad was outside the door listening to us the whole time.

Pairing - Jeremiah Fisher x Fem!Reader Summary - Jeremiah goes to you for everything, and when you give him a vital piece of love advice, it dawns on him that he is, in fact, in love with you. Warnings - None? Slight mention of underage drinking. Words - 2K
Masterlist
As was common, Jeremiah was at a loss for his several hookups. And, as was even more common, he went to you to debrief and to ask for advice. While he had hookups and situation-ships way more than you did (or anyone in Cousins for that matter), he struggled with how to manage them. At least he did until he started asking you for advice.
He threw himself onto your bed, forcing you to shut the book you had been deep inside. There, staring up at the ceiling, he let out a huff. "What, or should I say who, is it this time?" You raised your brow at him, watching as Jere's wide pupils stared up to the ceiling as if he were replaying some memory over and over.
"Luke." He let the name out in a sigh. "And, And!" He suddenly added as if he had almost forgotten in his daydreaming gaze, "Abi."
He finally sat up, staring at you with them puppy eyes you could never resist. "Two?" You questioned.
"Yes." He said, barely embarrassed by such fact; at this point, it was to be expected. "Reframe from any criticism please."
"I'm not gonna criticise you, Jere." You told him, a sweet smile gracing your lips. "If anything, I don't see what the problem is here."
He took a second before shrugging, "I just- I feel wrong, you know? Guilty." He explained. "Like I'm going behind their backs."
"Okay then, well you either need to tell them both the truth or pick one."
Jeremiah thought about the options for a moment and ran both scenarios through his head until making his decision. "I have to pick one." He said before looking at you, uncertain, "Right?"
"If that's what you want." You comforted him.
At that, he let himself fall once more. This time, right into your lap as he made a dramatic sigh as if this decision was a life-changing one. "What if I don't know what I want?" He questioned, gazing up at you, his sea-blue eyes catching you into his trap.
You let a sniffle of a laugh as you looked down at him, "Oh, trust me Jere, you've no idea what you want. But, that's okay too, sometimes you have to experiment with different people until you know what you want." You went on.
That seemed to spark another question for him, one of which wouldn't leave his head for the next few weeks: "How do I know? Like, how do I know that this is someone who I want a relationship with? A proper relationship, not just a hookup."
For that, you needed to think. As much as you gave Jereimah advice after advice, that was a question he had never asked. "I suppose it has to be someone you feel that spark with. But not just a sexual spark." As you were certain Jere sometimes mistook it for. "A spark that reaches to a deeper, emotional level. Where you feel safe but excited at the same time. A balance, I guess." That was what you assumed anyway. You hadn't had many successful relationships yourself.
But your words had seemed to prompt something for Jere. His eyes washed away, his mind sucking him into his thoughts. Until, after a long moment, he sat back up and with furrowed brows, asked, "How do you know all this? It's not as if you're happily married."
"No need to remind me." You giggled, slapping the side of his forearm.
Of which he chuckled at and defended himself, "I'm serious! You talk all this wise shit and can't even get yourself a date."
You could have scoffed, "I can get myself a date, thank you."
"Really? When was the last time you went on one?"
Then you did scoff, grasping the pillow from behind you and chucking it at Jeremiah's head, only erupting more laughter from the both of you. "You are so rude!"
Only once your mini pillow fight died down and Jeremiah returned home, did that question take over his whole mind. He strolled into the kitchen, pouring himself a glass of milk as he thought over it: how did he know? The only time he felt a spark that wasn't sexual- well, he couldn't quite remember. Everything you had described, the safety but excitement, the emotional connection (and the sexual), well the only person he could ever even suggest he had felt that for was you.
"What's up with you?" His brother's voice broke him from the glare he had been giving the countertop.
His eyes widened, "Huh?"
Conrad and Belly, who had been trailing behind him, both giggled. "You're just a bit...out of it, you know?"
"Thinking."
"That's a first." Conrad laughed.
Jeremiah snapped, "Hey!"
"Go on then," Belly pushed, "What is it you're thinking about?"
The boy sighed, replaying your words once more. "A spark."
"Why's a hookup causing you an existential crisis?" Questioned Conrad, watching his brother in such a focused state that it was becoming a concern.
"It's not a hookup." Jere admitted. "It's Y/n."
Suddenly, that name peaked Belly's interest. She leaned closing, placing her elbows on the kitchen island as she watched the boy carefully, "What about her?" She prompted.
"I went to her for advice, as I always do, and now I can't get it out of my head. She was explaining how for love, you need a spark, an emotional connection, safety..." He stopped there, ever so stunned by his recent realisation.
"And?" Belly pushed on, one brow raised.
Jeremiah sucked in a breath, not making eye contact with either of them as he said, "She basically just described everything I feel for her."
He looked at his brother and his best friend. It was silent. At least for a moment as he took in their unreadable expressions; were they stunned? Embarrassed? Futile? Then, breaking the silence came Conrad's laugh. "You have a crush on Y/n, great." He shook his head. "It took you long enough."
Jere's brows instantly furrowed as he straightened his back, "What? How did you-" He couldn't get his words out.
Conrad looked to Belly, "Come on, back me up. It was obvious."
Jeremiah looked to his friend and Belly could only shrug. "It sort of was." She agreed. "But, now you know, you can ask her out!" Excitement was painted on her words. Belly had been waiting for this for almost longer than yourself.
"I can't do that. She's- She's Y/n. She's my best friend. It'd be weird." The idea was so foreign that it was unbelievable.
"She's your best friend who you're in love with!" Belly argued. "Think about it, please."
With that, she and Conrad left Jeremiah to his thoughts. Once more, you never left his mind. He had been trapped.
For weeks, it was all he could think about. He'd gaze across the other side of the pool at you. Shades covering your eyes as you bathed in the sunlight. There he was daydreaming of everything you would do as a couple. Granted, it was pretty much the same as how things were now, only littered with kisses and hugs and greater smiles than either of you had ever made before.
It came to the point where he was just bursting to tell you. But he waited. He had to wait until the right moment. He couldn't do it by the pool, with Steven and Belly watching. He would wait for the perfect moment. And when the group of you arrived at a local party, he knew maybe tonight would be the night.
A few drinks down, he caught you by yourself. You had wandered to the backyard, sitting on the stairs that led to the porch. He lingered by the patio door, watching you as you sat alone for a moment. Your curious expression was emphasised by the fairy lights which tangled over the wooden fencing, flashing pinks and purples across your cheeks.
You didn't even know Jeremiah was there until he came and sat next to you, your shoulders nudged up against the others. "Enjoying the party?" A smooth smile hung from his lips as he grasped the red solo cup in his hand.
You nodded and glanced over at him, "Yeah, yeah, just needed a break." You excused.
Jere smiled, looking back through the patio doors and the booming party he could still overhear. "That's understandable." He gazed back at you and fell, once more, into your eyes.
"What about you?" You nudged his shoulder playfully. "You're never one to miss a moment from a party. Shouldn't you be looking for Luke? Or, or Abi!" You spat out their names as they flooded back into your memory. You had lost count of all the people Jere had hooked up with.
His smile faulted at the mention of their names, "Erm, no, no. I actually ended things with both of them." He admitted.
"Oh, why?" You raised a brow. "Ended up telling them the truth?"
"No, no." He answered before he looked to the ground, licked his lips and questioned if this was the moment. Something in his mind said fuck it, and he did. "But it was actually because of something you said." Jeremiah couldn't tear his eyes away from you as that curiosity built on your expression once again. "When you were explaining it to me, everything that love made you feel, all the sparks and the connections. That you should feel safe with them but it should be exciting all the same. Well," He took a breath and ran with it. "You're the only person that makes me feel that way."
The air soon became thick with Jeremiah's words as they floated around your mind. This was Jere, your friend, your best friend. The one who had talked non-stop about her and him all while you were nothing but a bystander. Yet, here you were, sitting away from the party the boy was usually the centre of as he professed his love. And you could never deny your feelings in that it wasn't reciprocated.
This time, it was your turn to look to the ground, lick your lips and say: Fuck it. "Jere, I can't deny that you aren't utterly brilliant. I mean, you're incredibly beautiful, and you know it. You're charming and comedic, you bring a room to life. And I love being at your side for all of that, I want to be there in the future too." You took a breath, wondering if your next words were about to ruin that smile that was glued to his lips. "But, it's because I want that, that I want to be your friend. Just your friend." Like that, the smile dissipated. "I can't be some other hookup that you start complaining about because they get too attached, or too clingy. I won't let that be me."
He jumped to take your hands in his. What used to be a simple gesture between the two of you, had suddenly become complicated and you questioned if you should let go. "That's not what you are to me. I would have already tried that on you if that was what I wanted, trust me." He admitted. "This isn't me asking you to kiss me, or to have sex with me or whatever I do nowadays. I'm sat here asking you to be my girlfriend."
The word had been said. It was in the air and it was up to you what you did with it.
And so, you tightened your grip on his fingers and said, "I want you Jere and I trust that you want me to." From there, you leaned in before he could respond, securing a yes with a kiss.

summer blues

The sun sets low, casting a warm glow upon the unfamiliar garden. The air is thick with the hum of laughter and music that drifts from the house, and everything seems perfect. It should be perfect. This is the stuff summer dreams are made of, and yet, you’re sitting on the outdoor furniture, alone, and left to your own devices.
Summer so far has been nothing but longing. You had watched as the one boy who had captured your heart at ten spent days at the beach with girls you didn’t even know the names of. And sure, it’s not like you have anything, not even close. But could you blame yourself? Jeremiah was nothing but perfect Carolina-blue eyes and golden skin. He was your summer dream.
The house party was meant to be a distraction, that’s what Steven had said when he tugged you into his car. It’ll be fun, you need to stop being sad all summer. He was nothing but adamant to make this summer the best yet, especially with the overhanging weight that Conrad and himself would be moving to college next year. Steven had never been fond of change, especially not when it came to summers at Cousins.
Steven had long since abandoned you to dance the night away with pretty girls and hooting boys, so instead here you are, sitting alone at a party, trying to fill the Jeremiah-shaped cavity in your heart with fruity drinks and loud music.
Jeremiah hadn’t been in sight when you first arrived at the party, and maybe that was a good thing. You could enjoy yourself for once, without your wandering eyes finding him somewhere with his hand on a girl's waist. Even just the thought of it made you sick to your stomach.
But sometime between then and now, he had shown up. Figures. And now you watch as he makes his way out of the big back doors, down the patio steps, past the pool, until he’s sitting with you in the makeshift gazebo, fairy lights sparkling above.
“Hey trouble,” Jeremiah greets as he sits on the plush outdoor sofa next to you, sidled up close enough that he bumps his shoulder with yours in welcome.
“Hey,” you parrot back, not meaning for the obvious buzzkill tone in your voice.
“What’s got you all bummed out?”
“Dunno.” you reply, eyeing the cold drink you’re balancing on your thigh which leaves a cold ring of condensation on your bare skin. “Did Steven send you to get me?”
Jeremiah’s eyebrows draw together in confusion as he cocks his head to the side. “No? Why would he need to? Can I not check up on my favourite girl?”
You let out a bemused snort, running your finger around the brim of your glass, eyes still not meeting his. Maybe you have had too much to drink.
“Come dance with me,” he says instead, hand outstretched, waiting for yours. You let your head fall against the back of the sofa.
“Not in a dancing mood.”
You don’t know if it’s the drinks or if it’s real, but Jeremiah shakes his head, a soft smile gracing his features as he tucks the stray strands of hair that have fallen in front of your face behind your ear. His hand lingers there a few seconds too long.
“What happened to dancing the summer away?” He questions, and when you finally look up to meet his eyes, he’s much closer than you expected.
“I was fifteen when I said that,” you note, which was almost two years ago now. How does he remember these things?
Jeremiah doesn’t respond immediately so you take your eyes off him, instead you watch the house glow to life, light filling the windows as the dark night begins to blanket the sky. The garden itself is empty with most of the party opting to escape the summer heat by seeking shelter indoors. A few girls are busy by the poolside, and you notice one of them keeps diverting her gaze back to where you and Jeremiah are sitting. Typical. It was like every girl in Cousins was obsessed with the prospect of at least one of the Fisher boys taking fancy in them. Was it bad that it always made you jealous? Everyone who sees him, wants him, and you wish you could keep him as just yours.
“You have an admirer,” you point out, nodding to the girl by the pool. You must admit, she’s gorgeous. Pretty brown eyes and gorgeous hair that even when wet seems to frame her face perfectly. You slink further down in your seat.
Jeremiah simply rolls his eyes at you. “Well she is pretty.”
And you know he means it as a joke. Can tell by the stupid grin and the tone of his voice. But the words are still like a dagger to your heart, twisting and turning until you can barely breathe - and oh God, you need to get out of here and away from him.
You set the drink down by the sofa, it meets the wooden deck with a too-loud clink before you stand abruptly. You brush down the skirt that had ridden up your legs as the ring of water on your thigh left behind by the glass soaks the edges of it. “I need to go,” is all you can murmur out.
“No, wait-” Jeremiah begins, standing to follow you.
“It’s fine,” you push, faux niceties lacing your voice, smiling as much as the ache in your chest will let you. You can feel the frown on his face burn into your back as you turn to leave, but you choose to ignore it, instead making your way back into the large lively house.
As you pass the pool though, the girl who has been eyeing Jeremiah gets up with a giddy look on her face, she calls to him in a sweet honeyed voice and it makes you sick.
You climb the patio steps, making your way through the lavish interior of the house.
You push through the crowd of people within the house. You just need a moment to yourself, to gather your thoughts and figure out just what the fuck was going on with you. Carefully, you slip into the bathroom, pushing the door shut with the weight of your body before leaning against the sink. You take deep breaths, trying to calm the beating of your heart.
All summer, you had been in some strange sad limbo, and you had blamed Jeremiah for that. For all the girls he had kissed at every party, for the way he made your heart beat and palms grow clammy. But really, was it his fault when you were the one who pushed him away?
Being in love with Jeremiah Fisher was anything but easy, not when you had to dance around the intricate friendship that had blossomed since you were eight years old. You didn’t know what love was until you were fifteen, sitting on the pier with him as you skidded rocks across the ocean. When he had smiled that smile and his eyes sparkled like the entire cosmos was within them. From that very moment on, you were doomed. Every brush of his hand against yours felt like a calculated step, and it was your fault for deluding yourself into believing he had space in his heart for anything more than a friendship with you.
It’s only a million times worse when you’re as close with him as you are, casual flirting and lingering touches was nothing but the norm. So it was especially difficult when he’d grab your hand and lead you through a crowd, or whisper some stupid inside joke just for you in a crowded room, when such a simple touch set your body alight with sparks.
“Knock knock,” you hear the door open softly, Steven’s head poking through. You had forgotten to lock the door, you realise. “Jeremiah thinks you're mad at him.” He informs, voice careful and soft as he closes the door behind him, making his way to you and placing a comforting hand on your shoulder.
You shake your head, unable to find the words to express the turmoil within yourself. Instead, you offer a weak smile letting out a shaky exhale. “Well, I’m not.”
Steven looks amused as he leans with his back against the sink next to you, tilting his head so it falls into your field of vision. “You sure?”
“Very sure.” You confirm.
“I think you’re lying.”
You take another breath, “I’m not mad, i’m just…” your voice trails off as you try to find the words.
“Angry, confused, sad?” Steven offers.
You shake your head as you poke his shoulder, “would you let me speak?”
“Yes ma’am, sorry ma’am,” he throws his hands up in surrender.
“I’m just… tired,” you say, defeated. Steven gives you an apologetic look. He’s known about your not-so-little crush on Jeremiah. How could he not when he seemed to be the only person who could light you up when you were dim and down?
“I’m tired of having to watch him go out with other girls every other day. I mean it’s not like we’re exclusive - we’re definitely not - but I just wish I didn’t feel like throwing up everytime.”
For a second, Steven doesn’t say anything, he looks at you with those eyes he does when he’s thinking. “What’s that thing Susannah always says?”
“What?”
“About…” He blows out his bottom lip as he struggles to remember the words, “about how love is like a flower, it needs time to grow and blossom and you need to nurture it.”
You pause, before cracking a smile. “Never in a million years would I have even imagined you quoting one of Susannah’s cheesy pieces of romance advice.”
Steven rolls his eyes at you, but he can’t help the smile that creeps up on him too. “Look, the point is, love isn’t supposed to be easy. Like, at all. But you really like Jeremiah, and I get it, he can really suck sometimes, especially with the whole hooking up thing,” - he looks up at you as he finishes his sentence, - “but if you love him as much as you let on, you’ve gotta just go for it. You need to stop pushing him away because of your irrational fear.”
Shaking your head, you turn fully to face Steven, crossing your arms defensively across your chest. “Okay, it’s not irrational, it’s completely rational. What if I just end up ruining everything? That’s a super real possibility. I don’t want to lose Jeremiah as a friend, and the risk of running that possibility is way too high.”
“God,” Steven lets out through a sigh, he looks like he wants to strangle you. “Listen to yourself! Maybe if you haven’t been moping around all summer you’d be able to see it.”
“See what?”
“Just go out there and talk to the boy.”
“This’d be a lot easier if you just told me.”
“I think you’d appreciate me a lot more if you figured it out for yourself.” Steven tells you, and he says it in a way that leaves little room to bicker back. He gives you an encouraging nod and a soft smile and for a minute you think he’ll say another stupid thing like go get ‘em tiger! But he graces you with silence and leaves you alone in the small bathroom.
You look back at yourself in the mirror. Maybe Steven is right.

Jeremiah is sitting on the steps of the patio when he hears the sliding glass doors open and shut and the shuffle of Steven’s old sneakers. Immediately, his head swivels so he’s facing his long-time best friend. “So what’d she say? Is she mad?” He blurts out immediately.
“Woah, slow down lover-boy,” Steven says, amusement in his tone. He takes a seat next to Jeremiah, placing his hands either side of himself. “Well, she’s not happy.”
“What the fuck, bro,” Jeremiah grumbles, “you were meant to deescalate the situation.”
“Actually no, I was checking up on my friend, who I care about, and who I haven’t been dancing around all summer long.” Steven corrects.
Jeremiah looks away, unamused, “okay I get it. I haven’t been the best person to her lately.”
“Really?” Steven gasps, faux surprise lacing his tone, “You’ve been avoiding her like the plague and hanging around with random girls like you want her to be upset.”
“I don’t!” Jeremiah is quick to retort. “I’m just…”
“You’re just being a dick.”
“That’s not fair-”
“Look man, I’m not trying to upset you either, but I really don’t get why you’re so scared to confront your feelings. You like her, you like her a lot and it’s so fuckin’ obvious.”
Jeremiah opens his mouth, ready to argue back, but Steven leaves no room for it.
“She literally craves your attention and you’re out here, making out with other girls like she’s not right there. Is this some weird attention grab sort of thing? What, are you trying to make her jealous? This isn’t like you, Jere.”
Steven’s words cut deep. So deep Jeremiah thinks they’ve scarred him, but maybe it’s for the best. No, it’s definitely for the best.
“Think about it,” is the last thing Steven says, before he stands up, giving Jeremiah a reassuring pat on the back, and disappears into the crowd of party-goers within the house.
‧₊˚☆༉‧₊˚.
When you finally feel ready enough to leave the bathroom, you think for a moment about Steven’s words. They kick around in your head. You chuckle to yourself, who knew you’d ever be taking legitimate advice from Steven? But instead of confronting your problems like you should, you pour yourself another drink, turning on your heels as you ascend the glossy white stairs. Whoever’s house this is - in the words of Steven himself - they’re fucking loaded.
The upstairs of the house is empty, albeit a few straggling couples making out in the hallway. You ignore them, noticing the gorgeous open balcony that conjoins to the hallway you’re currently walking down. It’s quiet and empty, a perfect place to spend the rest of the night in peace.
The moon hangs low in the sky now, reflecting off the ocean ahead, and as you step out onto the balcony the cool Summer night’s air bites at your skin.
It's a glorious view for what should’ve been a perfect night. Laughter and music wafts up from the party below, and you let out another regretful sigh, your heart heavy with the weight of unspoken words. As your eyes linger on the ocean, you hear the sound of approaching footsteps. You turn to see Jeremiah standing beside you, and when you look at him, he gives you that sweet smile.
“Hey trouble,” he begins, “you alright?”
You shrug, turning your back to the balcony as you slide your back down the railing, slumping to the floor with your knees tucked under your chin. “Trying to be.”
“Wanna tell me what’s wrong?”
Jeremiah with such a soft voice felt unnatural, and a part of you felt guilty for rendering him so quiet. Silence stretches between both of you like a chasm, as you struggle to find the right words within you to tell him how you truly felt. Instead, Jeremiah fills the silence, his voice hesitant but filled with a quiet determination. “I’m sorry.”
You gave him a perplexed look, “what are you apologising for?”
“For this entire summer,” he says, sitting on the ground next to you as he takes the cool glass from your hands, fingers brushing yours, before he places it on the ground. You tilt your head, curiosity in your eyes as you wait for him to continue.
“I’ve been an asshole. Like, bigtime, and I'm really sorry.” He takes a deep breath, takes your hand in his carefully, softly, like you’re something to be worshipped. To him you are. “And, I… need to tell you something.”
You look up at him, heart racing with anticipation, “what is it?” you all but murmur.
He takes a deep breath, his eyes never leaving yours. “I just-” and when he can’t find the right words, because how is he meant to compress everything he’s ever felt for you into one sentence? It’s impossible. He instead uses his actions.
His hands untangle from yours, grabbing the sides of your face before pulling you into a kiss. He kisses you. He kisses you and the world falls away and there’s nothing but him. At first, you don’t know what to do, it’s all so sudden, but when it finally registers, you want to cry. Not sad tears, and not entirely tears of joy either, tears of relief, tears that carry the weight of all your longing.
When he finally pulls away you’re quick to pull him back, holding him as close as humanly possible as you kiss him with all the fervour you can muster, hoping and praying he can taste the apology on your lips. But when it gets too much, and you need air, you pull away again. He looks at you, and you hold onto the fabric of his shirt tighter because this all feels like a dream.
“She isn’t you.” He murmurs, soft enough it could be carried away by the summer breeze.
“What?” you whisper back, as to not break the sacred quietness.
“She's. Not. You. None of them are, none of them could even dream of being you. They’re not funny like you, not gorgeous like you. They don’t know me like you do - Shit, I sound like a sap.”
You chuckle, “no, please do continue.”
He shoots you that heartstopping grin. “Oh, so you do like it when I flatter you?”
“Love it,” you answer, mirroring his grin.
His features soften for a second, and again, the apologies cascade from his lips. “I’m sorry, for being such an asshole. You deserve so much better than me, I’ve been the worst, and I didn’t mean to make you upset or jealous, I was just… nervous. God, you make me so nervous I do the dumbest shit.”
“I make you nervous?” You can’t help the disbelief in your voice.
“Like you wouldn’t believe.” He says, nothing but sincere. He smiles then, and that makes all of it worthwhile.
You don’t know for how long you manage to get lost in him, but when your thoughts begin to wander, you let the thoughts flow freely from your lips. “Remember when we were ten,” you say, recounting the memory that started this all, “we had snuck out to the beach. We got home so late that night, and we tried to sneak back in, but of course that never works with Susannah. She had said something like-”
“No more sneaking out for the both of you,” Jeremiah continues, “she said we’d had too much fun.”
“But we did it anyway.” You finish, dumbfounded that he remembers that at all. “How do you remember all these things?”
“Because it’s you.” He says it like it’s obvious by now. His pretty blue eyes don’t leave yours for even a second. “I don’t think I’ve loved anyone the way I love you.”
You look at him with that stellar smile he loves so much, but before he can speak, you’re interrupted by the familiar presence of the boy who played cupid.
Steven shakes his head, clear amusement in his eyes. "Finally,” he breathes out, as if it pained him to see the both of you dance around each other all summer. It probably did. His hands are wrapped around a cool glass, it’s empty. “I think this has been quite a night.”
You nod, blissful, turning to meet Jeremiah’s blue eyes. They speak volumes in themselves, a deep ocean blue that sparkles with some form of admiration, you can’t quite figure it out. “Let’s get outta here,” he says, pushing himself off the balcony floor as he extends a hand for you to take, which you do.
Maybe, this summer could be perfect after all.

pairing: cam cameron x fem!reader
summary: y/n has a summer job at the cousins bakery. cam cameron likes to find excuses to buy muffins every day.
warnings: none? just a long fic (i got carried away oopsies)
a/n: already rewatching tsitp and i finished it this week I LOVE IT SO MUCH FJSHJDHSH
masterlist !
⋆ ˚。 ⋆ ୨୧ ˚
cousins beach was so surreal in the summertime. it was the busiest time of the year for the small town. the beaches were crowded and the boardwalk never slept.
everyone practically knew everyone. that's what y/n might have loved most about it. besides her close friend isabel conklin of course.
the girls met in the summer of 2017 when y/n's family started driving three hours to their newly bought beach house. it was in the same neighborhood as the beck house, meaning y/n and belly quickly became friends. belly always invited y/n over, and grew fondly of conrad and jeremiah fisher. she eventually learned to enjoy steven's presence as well.
the two girls have been inseparable since. every summer you'd find them attached at the hip, with conrad, jeremiah and steven following behind.
this summer however was different. not for belly though, she was still just as obsessed with the older fisher brother. the summer was already different for y/n. her father made the decision for the girl to get a summer job. her mother wasn't too thrilled with the idea, just wanting her daughter to have a memorable summer. but after officially getting hired at the local bakery, y/n didn't mind.
she's always loved going to the bakery. it was almost tradition for her mother to buy a pie to bring to susannah's fourth of july parties. y/n always begged for the double chocolate chip muffins before they left at the beginning of august. nine out of ten times she left with a smile on her face and a muffin in her hands.
the first week of work went smoothly for y/n. belly stopped by everyday to check on her. jeremiah went with her one morning for a muffin run, and conrad went with her once to buy chocolate chip cookies to cheer up a very upset steven.
two new faces came into the bakery with belly and the fisher brothers. conrad and jeremiah immediately went to the small stand with different flavors of cupcakes. belly walked up to the counter, with the two newcomers trailing behind her.
"hey bells," y/n smiles, leaning against the cold counter.
"hi," she smiles back, "i just had to bring everyone here for the best muffins in the whole wide world."
belly gestures to the two friends behind her. the girl to her right has dirty blonde hair, with thick mascara covering her eyelashes.
"this is taylor," taylor waves.
the boy to her left has brown curly hair, with darker skin than belly's, and y/n can't help but smile when be does.
"and this is cam," belly pushes him forward a bit.
"it's cam cameron actually!" jeremiah interrupts from the other side of the small store.
y/n can't help bit giggle, "cam cameron?"
"yeah, cam or uh- cameron works just as well."
y/n sends him one last smile before turning back towards belly, "so i'm guessing you didn't just come in here to chat?"
belly shakes her head and gives y/n the muffin order, including steven's request who was busy with his summer job at the pool as a server.
y/n was quick to pack the 7 muffins in a box before handing them to belly. she walked over to conrad after paying, with taylor following behind. cam sent a wave to y/n, which she happily reciprocated, before watching them walk out of the store.
—
the next day at the bakery was quite boring for y/n. an older couple came in and ordered a cake, and a family of four ordered a dozen muffins. y/n was in the middle of cleaning and rewriting on one of the chalkboards on the wall when the bell above the door rang.
"oh hey cam cameron!" y/n turned to see the curly headed boy from yesterday.
he smiled at the name, not hating it when it came out of her mouth.
"what can i do for you?" she sets down the chalk and walks behind the counter. cam follows as he stands on the opposite side.
he gives her his order, which was one blueberry muffin for himself to enjoy. she slides the small bag across the counter, but cam doesn't want to leave the store just yet.
"seeing as you're not busy," cam chuckles as he looks around the store, "do you mind if i keep you company?"
y/n instantly shakes her head, "no, no not at all. i'd actually love that today. it's been so slow."
cam nods, "yeah i saw the boardwalk was pretty busy on the way over here."
the pair talked for over an hour, when to both of them it only felt like ten minutes. y/n couldn't keep her smile off her face when he was around.
cam pauses in the middle of his story when his phone buzzes from his pocket. "shoot," he sighs, "my mom wants me home for lunch."
cam grabs his bag before walking towards the door, "i'll see you!"
y/n smiles and waves, "bye cam cameron."
for the rest of her shift y/n couldn't stop thinking about cam. their conversation earlier ranged from their favorite foods, to cam's love for marine biology, and even to y/n's hidden talent of being a boss at karaoke (belly's words, not hers.)
—
a week had passed and cam stopped by the bakery every day. his order varied from muffins, to cupcakes, to cookies. cam accidentally admitted to the girl he visited her to keep her company. it absolutely warmed her heart and a giggle fell from her lips.
y/n practically skipped out of the bakery and towards her yellow bike. she knew she'd call belly as soon as she got home to tell her what happened with cam today.
the phone rang once, then twice, then belly answered.
"hi y/n! what's up?"
"i may need some girl advice bells."
"i'm sorry?" belly's instantly confused by y/n's words.
y/n groans, not knowing how to word her feelings, "can you just come over? it'll be easier to explain."
not even five minutes after hanging up, belly's knocking on the pale blue door of y/n's parent's beach house.
"cam cameron asked me on a date," y/n was quick to the point once the two girls got to her room.
belly squealed, before asking a million questions. y/n happily answered them all, knowing belly was truly excited for her.
y/n explained to belly that cam asked her right before she left to go home after her shift at the bakery. the sun was setting, and cam was worried he'd miss her if he didn't jog the second half of the route from his house towards the bakery. she found it cute as he seemed more nervous around her today than any other day last week.
cam took a deep breath before asking y/n if she wanted to go to the boardwalk with him. with a bright smile the girl agreed.
which leads to her predicament, of not knowing weather or not cam cameron meant it as a date or not.
"he asked you personally, so obviously it's a date y/n," belly was looking through y/n's closet as the ladder layed on her unmade bed.
"but what if he just sees it as two friends hanging out?" y/n rebuttals.
belly doesn't answer, but instead she comes out with a navy blue corset type of tank top, and grabs the pair of shorts she found in y/n's dresser moments ago.
she holds the articles of clothing together, "because how can he see you as a friend if he sees you in this!"
both girls fall into a fit of giggles before you eventually get ready. y/n still had thirty minutes or so until cam was picking her up, so belly insisted on helping with the rest of the look.
she kept her hair natural, from it already being styled for work earlier in the day. she threw all her jewelry back on, considering she can't wear any at work. y/n always wore two necklaces, five rings (three on her left hand, two on the right), and a handful of bracelets adorned both her wrists.
belly helped with her mascara and lip gloss.
with one last look in her mirror, y/n and belly both giggled as a knock echoed through the whole house.
cam cameron was never speechless, but when he saw y/n standing in front of him words weren't even a thought.
"hi cam," she giggles.
"hey- hey y/n, you look great."
belly not-so-subtley squeezes her way between y/n and the door, greeting cam before she ran back to her own house.
cam and y/n started walking towards the boardwalk. the sun was still in the phase of setting. hues of orange, yellow and pink filled the sky with a couple of clouds.
the walk to the boardwalk wasn't the shortest, but y/n loved the amount of time she's able to spend with cam. they didn't stop talking the whole way there.
cam observed the girl, and noticed the small wrinkles around y/n's eyes when she laughed. he saw her fiddle with the ring on her thumb when she listened to him talk. he loved how excited she got talking about all her favorite rides at the boardwalk.
y/n wasn't the observant type, but cam was the only exception. her heart sped up when his smile got bigger as he talked about marine biology. he loved everything about whales. she noticed during the week, when he got nervous he runs his hand through his hair. he does the same motion as the two finally walk into the buzzing atmosphere of the boardwalk.
"so, what do you want to do first?" cam politely asks.
y/n can't help but giggle again, before grabbing onto his hand, "i have an idea." she simply grabs cam's hand and pulls him towards one of the many games.
—
y/n never thought her favorite night of summer would be with a boy she just met this year.
her and cam played almost every game on the boardwalk. y/n won most of them, but when cam beat her at ring toss, he gave her the purple stuffed giraffe, which she didn't dare loosen her grip on it for the rest of the night.
after games, the two sat down on a bench to eat. y/n had a massive plate of chilli cheese fries while cam had funnel cake. y/n wasn't one to question his choice, as he explained he ate an early dinner before he picked her up.
after eating they went into the arcade for a little over an hour. they walked out and the sky was now dark, with a million stars reflecting off the ocean.
now y/n and cam were walking side by side at the other end of the boardwalk. they were near the railing, away from all the games and bright lights, making it more quiet.
"i had a lot of fun tonight cam," y/n's smile hasn't left her face all day, and doesn't falter when she thanks him.
"me too, i'm glad you were able to come."
for a few moments it was quiet between the two. their hands kept brushing into each other's. y/n could feel the warmth radiating off of his hand, she couldn't help but slowly interlock her pinky with his.
"do you mind if we sit?" y/n points to a bench maybe ten feet away, "all the walking is finally catching up to me."
of course cam says yes. they sit beside each other on the cold bench, with the purple giraffe sitting lopsided by y/n's feet.
"are you not cold?" cam asks, suddenly remembering y/n was outside in only a tank top and shorts.
y/n shakes her head, "no uh- not really. i like the cold."
cam tilts his head towards her, "you sure? cause i could easily go to the gift shop for you."
y/n giggles at how sweet cam is, "really, i'm okay cam."
"do you know what you're gonna name it?" cam gestures to the giraffe he won for her earlier in the evening.
y/n shrugs, "i haven't really thought about it yet," she picks up the giraffe and studies it, "what about muffin?"
cam lets out a chuckle, "it's perfect."
a cool ocean breeze blows through the boardwalk. once it reaches y/n and cam, the girl shivers and subconsciously moves closer to cam. his cheeks flush slightly at the contact of her thigh pressing against his, and her shoulder bumping against his own.
"you sure about you not being cold?" cam laughs.
"okay, maybe it's a little cold now," y/n laughs with him.
silently, cam holds his hand open. y/n takes it, and a warm electric feeling flows through her body. cam's hand was shockingly warm, which was a great contrast to y/n's cold skin.
—
sadly, the fun night cam had planned for the pair had to come to an end. their hands never left each other's grip as cam walked y/n back to her house. once again, the two talked the whole way back.
y/n sighed once they reached the cobblestone driveway of her house. cam walked her up the steps of her porch, now turning to the girl once they reached the door.
"thank you for today cam," y/n thanked him again.
"i'm glad you had a good time," cam smiled down at the girl.
y/n smiled before leaning up to kiss the boy's cheek. her lips lingered there for a moment. just as she was about to unlock the front door, cam's voice stopped her.
"you missed."
y/n's eyesbrows furrowed.
"you missed," cam repeated.
before y/n can respond, cam grabs her hand again to pull her in front of him. he smiles before pushing his lips softly against y/n's. the kiss lasts for a few seconds before the girl pulls away. her cheeks are pink and her cold skin is suddenly warm.
"i really like you y/n," cam's voice is quiet, afraid to break the moment the two just shared.
to respond, y/n leans up to kiss cam again. this time one of her hands goes to his cheek to make the kiss become deeper. cam smiles against her lips, as his hold on her waist never falters.
this was the first of many dates for cam and y/n, and she loved every single one of them.

party foul (jeremiah fisher x reader)
summary: so what if you're in love with your best friend, jeremiah fisher? one drunk kiss won't change anything. right?
notes: not biblically accurate conrad, teen drinking, kissing, 3k words, reader previously dated co**ad, angst/miscomm., not proof read at all
+ part 2
+ i never keep the same tense i'm so sooryim gooo fuckjuhnbsorry oh my god and dw abt the header image!!!!!! it's okay!!!!!
kissing jere was easy.
it was the first thing you noticed. how easy it was to let his lips slant over yours, to tilt your head back at the greedy request of his hands, to forget about the party and conrad and the house.
it was just him and the feel of his mouth on yours.
you hadn't expected this, to say the least. in fact, you'd been bracing for an awkward and mostly miserable night. ever since conrad and you had split back in june, things had been awful. the breakup had been bad itself--getting ditched at prom without explanation was one thing--but watching conrad get back with nicole a week later was even worse.
so you were pleasantly surprised with yourself when you decided to go to the fisher's goodbye party, despite whatever tension there might be between you and conrad.
if you were being honest with yourself though, you mostly had jeremiah to thank. you two had been best friends since childhood, but ever since his brother had broken your heart, jere had been there for you. all the time, really. he'd drive down on weekends to check up on you. and when susannah had gotten worse, you'd driven up to make sure he was eating and sleeping too.
so of course he'd been able to convince you to come stay, waving off your concerns about conrad. i want you there, he'd said. i really want you there. and so you'd come. you arrived late, tired from the hours of highway driving. already the house was packed with hap hazardously parked cars and drunk teenagers. the music was loud even on the warm streets outside, and you couldn't help but feel excited as you pulled your bag out of your car and started towards the party.
taylor was the one who opened the door for you. she launched herself into a hug, giggling and shrieking as you two swung around.
"oh my god. you have no idea how happy i am to see you," she yelled, dragging you into the crowded house.
together you fumbled upstairs, eventually breaking into one of the larger rooms. various assortments of air mattresses and water beds covered the floor. jere had called you as soon as they'd gotten back from the boardwalk about julia's suprise moving. it wasn't often you heard him so... defeated.
"you can drop your stuff wherever," said taylor, "but the one in the corner is jeremy's."
she didn't even bother to hide her grin as you slapped her arm. nothing, not even your best kept secret, made it past taylor.
"shut up. you can't say anything to him or i swear i'll kill you," you promised, only half joking.
"oh please. he hasn't stopped talking about you the whole trip. it's disgusting."
you tried not to smile at that--jere talked about you? i mean, he'd called you just about every day for the last few months. more, on days when things were hard. but still, you felt almost nervous at the thought of seeing him now. of what it might be like between you.
your thoughts were cut off by a shout of your name. running into the room was belly. well, not running--rolling.
"oh my god bell what are you wearing?" you asked. it was too late though, because she was wrapping you up in a wobbly, crushing hug.
"roller skates? duh? they're an old pair of susannah's," she said.
you'd missed belly. she looked fucking adorable in her little vintage number, and you hugged her again just because. over her shoulder you could see steven grinning, and conrad too. you waved to the later while steven strode over, ruffling your hair before taking your bag from you.
"long time no see, city-girl," he said.
"yeah yeah yeah. just be nice to my bag, okay? it's got some very delicate presents," you said. steven raised his eyebrows but did as you said, placing your bag onto the bed taylor had indicated earlier. jere's bed. taylor and steven met eyes and winked--uh oh. the last thing you needed was them trying to set you up with your best friend. your best friend who you're in love with, something inside you said. you tried your best to strangle it.
"hey."
this time it was conrad, who was sporting a pair of atrocious sunflower sunglasses on the top of his head.
"hey. i like the glasses," you said, doing your best to smile. it was weird to talk like this to him. you were so angry and embarrassed and sad because of him for so long, and now there was just... nothing. and it felt okay.
"uh, yeah. nicole--nicole got them for me."
he looked sheepish, blushing in a way that used to have you fawning. now you just did your best to nod, saying, "well, she's certainly got a good eye for fashion."
you were saved from the conversation by steven's cough. he stood by the doorway, impatiently waving you towards the party.
"cmon guys, can we hurry this up?"
"yeah, gimmie one sec," you promised. returning to your bag you pulled out the liquor you'd secured on your way there, the bottles heavy in your hands.
"see," you said, turning back to your friends, "presents."
-
downstairs was even louder than you thought it would be. belly had gone all out for the party--strobe lights blared in every room, a kegger was set up outside, and a dj (was that cam cameron??) was spinning in the living room. you had to admit it: you were having a good time. a really good time. except for, that is, one thing. or person, really. jere was nowhere to be found. he'd even missed out on the group shots you, steven, taylor, belly and conrad had downed first beside the pool and then by the kitchen. jeremiah never missed group shots.
a little more than drunk now, you pushed off from your spot on the counter to find your bestfriend.
"city-girl, where you going?" asked steven.
"i'm gonna go find jere. i haven't seen him since i got in."
"i'll come with you," a voice spoke up.
it was conrad, who looked between you and the floor nervously. you didn't miss the questioning looks that pass between taylor and belly. you shrug at them--a little nervous, but not enough to turn him down in front of all your friends.
"uh, yeah sure."
so you and conrad made your way back through the party, scanning couches and corners for jeremiah. by the time you hit the stairs you were both sweaty and annoyed. you had come all this way to see him, and all of a sudden he'd disappeared.
"he's not picking up any of my calls," said conrad, pulling his phone away from his ear.
"me neither," you admitted, letting yourself swing around the banister to sit at the bottom of the staircase. cautiously, conrad gestured to empty landing beside you.
"mind if i join?"
you nod, scooching over to make room. conrad looked bigger than last time you'd seen him. he looked stronger too. for a while after susannah died he'd looked like a corpse--pale and skinny and only half there. even you could admit you were glad to see him doing so much better.
"hey, look i didn't really tag along to search for jere," conrad said, glancing back at you. shocker.
"i uh," he cleared his throat, "i mostly just wanted to apologize. for how things ended. i know i messed up really bad and i wanted to say i'm sorry."
in the hazy blue and purple's of the dance floor below, conrad's steel-blue eyes were genuine. for the first time that night they held yours steadily.
"i was hurting, and let myself fall on you for comfort even when i knew you weren't who i wanted. who i needed. and it wasn't fair to you. i know that now, and i'm sorry it took me so long. i'm really, really sorry."
huh. you hadn't really expected that one either. but it was nice to hear him say those words. you liked conrad. he was a good guy who'd had a rough hand delt to him. and yeah, he hadn't done right by you. but like susannah had always repeated:
"no harm no foul," you said, and let yourself smile at him. he looked relieved as he smiled back, no doubt recognizing the reference to his mother.
"you're happy now, i take it? with nicole?" you ask.
"yeah. more than happy, actually. don't know what i did to deserve her."
you're happy for him, in that moment. really happy.
"what about you? you finally stopped messing around and admitted your feelings to jere?" he asked.
"huh?" you drop, mouth open. there's no way.
"what," he chuckled, grinning harder at your shocked expression, "like it's not obvious you two are crazy for each other."
you can feel the blush spreading across your cheeks now, stomach skipping at his words. so they all knew, you realized. does jere?
"he doesn't--you didn't tell him, right?" you said, panic rising.
conrad shakes his head, still looking amused.
"no, but he'd be a fool not to see it. you guys are perfect for each other. really."
"thanks, conrad."
and you mean it--it's been months of awkwardness between you. and now you just feel... good. you feel like you've got your friend back. so you lean over and hug him, letting yourself remember that before your fling you were friends, and returning back to it feels comforting and warm.
"thank you, for hearing me out. i'm glad we can be back to normal now," he said into your shoulder.
"friends again?" you ask.
"definit--"
"what the fuck?"
-
it's jeremiah. he stands at the top of the stairs, eyes wide. he's wearing the ariana grande merch you'd gotten him. he looks the same and yet--
and yet something in your chest fizzes and your stomach starts running circles as you look at him. you missed him. and not because he was your best friend.
"jere--it's not what it looks like," said conrad.
and then you realized he did look different. the jeremiah you knew was always grinning about some secret joke, or making fun of belly or steven. he never looked... betrayed like this. and he certainly never looked at you with disgust. with anger.
"what the fuck are you guys doing?" he asked again, but this time he didn't even look at you.
"nothing, jere. we were just talking," said conrad.
you cringed at his words. they might be true, but they sure didn't sound good.
"yeah, sure," laughed jere. you'd never heard him laugh like that. it made your skin prickle.
"c'mon, you know i'd never do that-" conrad started.
jeremiah was faster though. he was up in conrad's face in a second, pushing him into the wall. you'd never seen him like this. he wasn't an aggressive guy; even when the brothers fought it was never violent.
"don't fucking lie, con. you were just waiting to take her back weren't you? waiting until you knew it'd hurt me the most, huh?"
you felt his words viscerally, like they were being penned onto your skin. hurt him the most? it was the closest to a confession you'd gotten, but it all felt wrong.
by now, partygoers on the main floor had started to notice the commotion. people were pointing, some even starting to pull out their phones. great.
"jere," you called. he paused, bright blue eyes on you. even now, fighting with his brother, jeremiah looked beautiful. maybe you had had a bit too much to drink.
"jere, please let it go. conrad isn't a part of this," you murmured. though you didn't break eye contact, you could see his hands loosen around his brother's shirt in your peripheral. jaw clenched, he heeded your wishes, giving a final shove to conrad before breaking away. he walked quickly down the stairs and into the throngs of people below.
"jere, wait up!" you call, desperately trying to follow the broad shape of his back through the crowd. jeremiah didn't bother trying to accommodate your smaller strides, and you almost lost him a few times in the packed house.
"would you please slow down? jere," you said again. by now you were out of the house, dodging pool floaties and scattered drinks. the blonde made no indication of hearing you as he kept striding towards the beach.
"jeremiah!"
finally he whipped around. he still looked mad--the set of his jaw, the notching of his eyebrows--but under all of it, he just looked sad. you hated seeing him upset, and you hated knowing you might've been the cause of it.
"jere, please. what's going on?" you asked, this time softly. he was close to you now. you could see his heavy breathing, could smell the perfume he always wore.
"how would i know. you're the one who's looking all close with your ex--my brother--conrad," he spits. he swallows hard, like he's checking himself.
"it was always you and conrad. even when we were kids it was that way. i was stupid to think it could've been any different."
he turned away from you, gaze hard. oh, jere. you have no idea, you thought. it was him--how could he not see that? how could he really think it was conrad you cared about?
you couldn't deny it any longer: you loved jere. and you definitely weren't about to let him walk away thinking otherwise.
quickly, without letting yourself dwell on it, you grabbed jeremiah's hand. he turned back, eyes wide. and you kissed him.
kissing jere was easy.
it was the first thing you noticed. how easy it was to let his lips slant over yours, to tilt your head back at the greedy request of his hands, to forget about the party and conrad and the house.
it was just him and the feel of his mouth on yours.
and then everything was static. everywhere he touched you--the long, lean press of his body to your front, the sharp slide of his jawline under your palm, the firm press of his hands at your waist. every sense was filled with him and his warmth and the way he smelled.
you were gasping into the kiss, hyperaware of the small noises he made when you pulled on his curls. of just how tall he was, how much he had to lean down to hold you like this.
you barely broke away enough to say, "jere, nothing happened with conrad. we were talking about you-"
"don't care," he said, voice rough. because he was too busy lifting you onto one of the wooden boardwalk rails, muscled arms flexing in the distant party lights.
you barely had time to settle before he was kissing you again, sloppy this time, like he owned your mouth and wanted you to know it. you felt hot everywhere, as his hands pulled apart your thighs and he crowded his broad body into you.
you'd kissed once before for a game of truth or dare. it had been sweet and short, and you both had been teased about it for years afterwards. this was different.
wholly different, you realized, as jeremiah's lips sought out the hot skin of your neck. there was no place except where he touched you; the noise of the party, the lull of the waves on the beach, the quiet way he murmured against your skin.
"jere," you said, because there was no room in your mind for anything or anyone else. he hummed as his canines bit lightly at your ear. jere.
greedy for more, you took one of the tan, strong hands holding your face and brought it lower, lower until it rested over your frantically beating heart. jere had pulled away to watch your ministrations, cursing softly as his hand fell over your chest.
"you sure?" he asked, and his voice sounded hoarse.
"yeah, course jere. it's you."
something behind his eyes sparked at the trust you promised. it's always been you. kissing you once more, gentler this time, jere let his hand run up and under the vintage bathing suit top you'd stolen from your mom for the party.
skin on skin, jeremiah was soft and warm. he was breathing heavy as you as he felt you up. forehead to yours, gaze keen as he watched you pant and squirm.
"this okay?"
you could only nod, eyes drawn tight at the sensation. he kissed you again, his touch more confident as you clung to his shoulders.
you'd messed around with conrad a few times. it had felt good. fun, even. but he'd never had you reeling like this, never made you feel like everywhere he touched was fire. that feeling was reserved for jere.
and as his thumb circled your nipple and his teeth pulled at your lip, you realized you were burning and there wasn't anything you could do to stop it. best friend or not, jere was the only one who could make you feel like this. ever.
you pulled away from his mouth. he looked concerned, and you could feel him move his hands away from you.
"sorry if i..." he started, blue eyes near scared as he watched you.
"no, jere it's not that. it's, it's just that i-"
"hey, there's my man! where the fuck were you dude?"
it was steven. fucking steven. on his arm was taylor, who grinned manically when she saw your mussed hair and blushing expression. please not now, taylor. please don't mess this up any more.
but drunk as they were, the pair didn't notice your nervous expression. instead, steven laughed and said, "so did you finally tell her you're in love with her or what?"
-
jere's face dropped. whatever softness you'd shared moments earlier was gone. his mouth set flat, hands that had been mapping out your body now closed into fists.
"fuck you, steven."
taylor's eyes were on you now, finally recognizing the tears you tried to blink away. with a hand on his chest she held steven back, some wordless communication passing between them. if you hadn't been feeling your own heart break you would've been trying to tease them about it.
instead, you chased after jeremiah's retreating figure.
"jere, will you please listen!" you called. but he was stubborn--you knew this better than anyone. one more time you tried, shouting his name over the stupidly loud party.
he whipped back around, blue eyes sharp.
"just stay away from me, okay? why don't you go find conrad to wipe your tears," he snapped. for a moment, jere looked shocked at his own words too. but then he was shaking his head, tearing his gaze away from yours as he continued through the crowds towards the house. away from you.
and this time, as people collapsed into the space all around you, their yelling and singing drowning out even your thoughts, you knew there was no use calling for him.

make it two || conrad fisher
Summary: you have history with conrad fisher & an emotional conversation brings it to light
Warnings: A mention of a spoiler from season 2
“What’s your biggest regret?”
The sound of Conrad Fisher’s voice tore through the waves that were crashing up on the sand. It was the first alternative sound that you have heard in the last two hours and it broke you out of your daydream. You were laying on the sand, staring up at the dark sky that was lit up with glistening stars and the occasional plane sweeping through the air.
Everything was getting too much in the house and you snuck away. A text to Belly ensured her that everything was okay but you just needed air. You knew it wouldn't have been long until someone came to hunt you down.
“And there you go again, Fisher,” you sighed, voice straining and you tried to hold back the tears that were threatening to spill down your cheek, “always the deep, dark questions.”
“The answer doesn’t always have to be dark,” Conrad slowly sat down beside you, careful to not disrupt the sand too much. He lay on his side, propping his head up with his palm, and you could feel his gaze roaming your face.
Seconds turned into minutes before you spoke again, the words falling softly off your tongue, “I regret not coming up here last summer but I think you knew that, Connie.”
Without a second thought, Conrad brushed his thumb over the cheek closest to him and wiped the tear away which led to your lips quivering under the determination to not sob in front of him. You looked up through your eyelashes, praying silently that you wouldn’t break down but you knew that this has been building over the last couple of days that you’ve been back to Cousins.
The waves were non-existent as Conrad moved his hand slowly to cup your jaw and turn your gaze to him. You breathed in an unexpected sigh at the sight of his brown eyes staring back at you. Hurt. Pain. Regret. You recognised the emotions too easily.
“You didn’t know,” he whispered, “No one did and that’s what my mother would have wanted.”
His words were meant to give you a sense of relief, but instead they struck a cord that you have been carefully avoiding since the death of Susannah. Anger washed through your veins and you sat up, bringing Conrad with you. “She knew and she refused to tell me, she refused to beg me to come here to have.. To have one last summer with her.” Your voice wasn’t loud, but there was frustration dripping from the words, “She didn't fight."
“She didn’t want you to give up your life for her.”
“Stop defending her, Conrad!” you screamed, standing up and walking away from him.
“Y/N,” Conrad snapped, chasing after you as you rushed down further away from the house you grew up in. “You had a great summer, with your friends.. At your parties, living your life, as she wanted you to.”
This has been a topic that everyone has been avoiding since you arrived with Jeremiah. You never made it down to Cousins last Summer and it was all because you wanted to spend time with your friends. "I'm not a child anymore, mother, you can't make me go." were the words you said to your mother before she made the devastating call to Susannah.
You turned quickly on your heels, stopping dead in your tracks, “She was my life! You! Jeremiah! Belly! Even Steven!” Conrad was about a meter away from you, but you shouted the names at him, “I was too stubborn to give up one more summer to see you again, to see Suzannah again.. I thought I was too cool for Cousins, I kept saying to my mother ‘there’s always next year’ but now… that’s it,” you breathed out, looking him in the eye and seeing his heart break for you. “There's not a next year and there's nothing we can do about it.”
Before you knew it, Conrad wrapped his arms around you and pulled you to his chest. His chest was rising and falling, taking in the information you screamed at him. You couldn’t stop the tears from taking over, everything became too much and you were thankful that your face was smudged into his t-shirt. “It’s my fault,” you repeated, hearing Conrad shush you and running his hand up and down the back of your head. His aftershave swirled around you, it was like a drug to you, calming you down immediately.
“I’ve got you,” he whispered, and you could feel his chest shake with his own tears. The realization hit you hard, it’s always him. He always has you.
Conrad guided both of your bodies to the sand, sitting back and letting you release the build up of emotions. You couldn’t tell how much time passed, but from the pain starting to come up your back, you knew it was time to face the music.
Pulling back from Conrad, he let you go gently, his eyes never leaving your face. You breathed out, your eyes feeling puffy and swollen, “I’m sorry about that.”
“You know there’s no reason to be sorry,” his voice was soft, just like it always was. Conrad Fisher was too pure for this world. “I should have told you the moment I found out but..” he paused, “things were complicated between us.”
You nodded understandingly. The last time you saw Conrad, it was hard saying goodbye to him. There was a first and last kiss, and the distance became too much for the both of you. Missed phone calls, forgotten texts and two teenagers trying to be adults. You need to live, and so did he.
“I do wish you called.”
“That’s my biggest regret,” Conrad whispered, before taking your hand in his and bringing it to his lips, placing a soft kiss on it, “I’ll live with that for the rest of my life, for making you feel this way.”
“Connie,” you breathed out, twisting your body to look at him with both eyes, “It wasn’t your fault, please believe that.” You watched his tongue dart from his mouth to lick his bottom lip, feeling your heart start to get heavy. Since the moment you returned to Cousins, your heart has been aching for Conrad like it always has been. “I missed you,” at your confession, the pain disappeared from Conrad’s eyes, and they softened with the side of his lips turning upwards.
“I was hoping you’d say that,” he whispered, bringing his hand up to cup your cheek and he didn't miss the nervous gulp you took which only made him chuckle. “Y/N, I’m not me when you’re not with me. You change everything, you make me a better person and I… really like you for that,” he hesitated, a mischievous glint flickered in his stare.
“Were you just about to admit your love for me?” you teased, your mouth growing wide and your teeth were on full display.
“I think everyone and their dog knows that I love you, y/n y/l/n. I fell in love with you the moment I met you.”
“We were five,” you chuckled, shifting closer to him.
Conrad shook his head with a laugh, his thumb massaging your jaw gently, “and yet we’ve only ever had one kiss, how unfair is that?”
“Why don’t we make it two kisses tonight?”

Hi!! I struggle with anxiety and frequently find it hard to be among crowds of people. I was wondering if you could maybe write something about that with Conrad Fisher? Much Love!!
first glance - c.f
pairings: conrad fisher x reader
summary: at a bonfire party, the crowds become too much and conrad immediately notices.
warning(s): anxiety, fluff, comfort
not proofread
"you ready?" my boyfriend, conrad asks and i nod
he's been going on and on about some bonfire party they go to every year.
i usually skip it, but since me and conrad started dating, i started following him around everywhere
i have to admit, i'm kind of nervous for this bonfire party.. i didn't really wanna go but conrad seemed so excited about it, so how could i say no?
it just seems like... a lot for me, but i'll give it a shot.. maybe it wont be so bad, right?
"y/n?" he says and i snap out of my trance
"yes! sorry, i'm ready" i respond with a smile
"y'know, we don't have to go if you don't feel like it" he reassures and i let out a nervous laugh
"it's fine, i wanna go! i do!" i say and he looks at me, squinting
he sees right through me, but we both know in the end i'll get my way, so he doesn't fight it.
"fine then, cmon" he says as we walk to the beach
we arrive to the bonfire at sunrise, barley any light illuminating the party
"heyyy conrad! you made it" one of conrads friends swoops in, wrapping his arm around him
i stand there awkwardly, not knowing anybody here.
"hey! y/n.. right?" a girl comes up to me
she looks familiar, but i can't put my finger on where i've seen her from...
"yeah!.. yeah that's me" i laugh, anxiousness radiating off of me like a beam.
"i'm nicole! i was a deb last year" she says smiling
"oh! i remember now, yeah hi! it's been a while how are you?" i say, trying to make conversation
we talk for a while, but eventually she goes back with her group.
suddenly, everyones screaming and jumping and a crowd forms around me
everyone starts dancing and moshing
i try to get out but i feel as if i'm the center of the crowd and there's pools of people around me.
when did so many people get here?
why can't they just move out of the way?
i feel like i can't breathe
conrad spots me in the crowd and at first glance, he sees the panic on my face
"move! excuse me, hey!" he yells his way through the crowd, grabbing me and pulling me out of the mosh
he sit's me down on the sand, near the ocean.
"hey, hey, it's okay.." he says as i try to catch my breath
"why the fuck- did everyone start- start a fucking mosh pit" i ask, looking down panting.
"i don't know.. i'm really sorry baby, if i would've known we never would've come" he pleads and i sigh
"it's not your fault just- overwhelmed me.." i say picking at my lip
he grabs my hand to stop me picking, interlocking our hands instead
"c'mere" he says, pulling me into his lap
he strokes my hair until i'm completely calmed down
"connie?" i mumble
"yes baby?"
"thank you"

“Try to catch me miss Y/n.” Said one little girl as she giggled
You shook your head, as you noticed the kids distracted you picked up Savannah, while grabbing Thomas’s hand, dragging them back to the day care room
“What did I tell you about leaving this classroom?” You asked
“We’re sorry miss y/n.” Said Savannah as she looked up at you with sad eyes, you sighed
“It’s fine just don’t do it again, now go eat your lunch.” You said, after you said that, a voice disrupted your thoughts
“Miss Y/n.” Said one little girl “your boyfriend is here!” She said as she nibbled on her cheese cracker giggling
The rest of the kids giggled as one little boy made kissy faces, Miss Amy walked up to you
“I’ll settle these kids down, why don’t you talk your hour lunch break?”
“Sounds perfect, thank you.”
Miss Amy smiles at you as she looked back at the kids
“Miles you put that down!” Said Miss Amy “your bento box is not a toy!”
“I don’t know how you do it.” Said Jeremiah as he walked side by side with you down the hallway towards the dining hall
“It’s nothing.” You said “but I do hope I don’t get sick, apparently there is something going around, they called that three teachers are out sick with the flu.”
“Well let’s hope you don’t.”
Well… let’s just say that you jinked it, the next day you found yourself with a fever of 102.3
“Those kids.” You said as you sat the thermometer down, you were in your thoughts until belly came in
“Woah y/n… you look beat, are you ok?” Asked belly as she walked close to you, but you stopped her with your hand
“Don’t. Come. Close.” You said with a raspy voice
Belly walked close to you anyway, when she did she placed the back of her hand on your forehead, but taking it off within seconds
“Oh my gosh…” said belly “your burning.”
“Yeah.” You said as you past by belly back to the door of your room “now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going back to bed.”
“I’m staying home today.” Said belly “I’ll take care of you.”
“Thanks belly but I rather you not get what I got.” You said as you smiled at her, shutting the door
“Knock knock.” Said a voice, it was Susannah who had something in her hands “belly told me, how are you feeling?”
“Well… my nose is stuffy, my throat hurts, oh and I’m achy.” You said as you sat up
“Well I made some chicken soup and I thought you might want some.”
“Thanks.” You said as you sat up from your bed.
“I’ll leave you alone.” Said Susannah as she gave you a small smile before walking out
It has been a few hours, more say 2 hours has passed. You were reading a book before you heard another knock, this time it was Jeremiah at the door.
“I hate that your sick, because your going to miss the awesomest party ever!” Said Jeremiah as he stood at the doorway, you chuckled.
“Awesomest isn’t even a word, but yeah.” You said as you looked at Jeremiah “you guys have fun.”
“Call me if you need anything.” Said Jeremiah as he bends down to kiss your forehead, but you jerk away
“Sorry but, im kinda contagious here.”
“Doesn’t matter.” Said Jeremiah as he gave you a kiss on the forehead anyway
“Alright, but don’t come to me when you get what I have.” You said “it’s not fun.”
“Whatever!” Shouted Jeremiah from the hallways, you chuckled before getting back to your book.
A week later
“So… how does it feel to be in my shoes.” You said as you were standing at the doorway of Jeremiah’s room. Turns out, he got what you had. Yours was still lingering but you were feeling better.
“This is torture.” Said Jeremiah, he sneezed again before looking at you “but it was worth it.”
You rolled your eyes before walking out of the room
“Love you!” Shouted Jeremiah
“Whatever!” You shouted back

going, going, gone pt. 2 - c.f
summary: y/n leaves to do what susannah always wanted for her boys.
conrad fisher x conklin!reader
a/n: gif is not mine, but i was so so happy to see how much everyone loved part one!! i’ve never had to tag people, but i will try and do that at the end of the story <3 this is also not following the books, that i haven’t read because i’m the worst reader 😭
y/n stood on the opposite side of susannah’s bed, visiting her in boston after she was waiting to see her girls. her connection to laurels daughters was always something susannah felt from the moment they were born. she always wanted girls of her own, but she was still blessed with her two sons.
belly was sitting on the bed, a bright blue dress as susannah looked into her eyes. laurel had gone out to run errands for her friend, so the girls had stayed with susannah.
it was clear that her condition was declining, and rapidly. her face didn’t have the usual sunshine look, and she appeared weaker than y/n and belly were ever used to. her skinny hands trailed to theirs and wrapped together. her touch went from a warm comfort to as light as a feather. somehow, through the cloudy day, the sun poked through and her angelic smile blessed the girls.
“i’ve been missing you so much,” susannah grinned, placing a hand on belly’s thigh and grabbing y/n’s hand with the other. “i’m so glad you came to see me. i needed to see you girls.”
the look on belly’s face was almost coated with uncomfortableness, her naïve self not used to seeing people in this condition. y/n didn’t want susannah to see her fall apart in her grasp, so she made herself blend with tranquility.
the time had passed where they wanted to attempt to save susannah. now, they knew it was only a matter of time until they lost her. they may not have physically lost susannah, but they lost the spark in her a long time ago.
“the boys love you, you know,” she tells belly, and then turning her head to y/n. “both of you.”
“i know,” y/n replies, seeing belly trying to find the right words.
“promise me something?” she asks, looking at belly who’s head perks up. “look after them for me.”
“you’re going to do that yourself,” belly remarks barely over a whisper, moments away from letting the dam break. y/n’s cried enough tears for susannah, but somehow they don’t seem to stop. watching her whole family experience this grief makes her feel less alone, but seeing her baby sister fall apart is near unbearable.
she watched as belly crumpled on the bed into susannah’s arms, and her once warm grasp felt lighter than ever.
ever since her death, y/n wants to look at belly the same. her actions make it so hard. she promised susannah to take care of her boys, and she failed. she let jeremiah sit around knowing he wasn’t the one she truly wanted. afterwards, she made conrad watch in heartbreak her new self with jeremiah.
that scares y/n, knowing that she’ll never truly be able to pick between them. in the long run, no matter who she “picks”, she’s hurting more people than she thinks.
she figures the best thing she can do is be there for conrad, as belly and jeremiah don’t think it’s necessary.
as she drove further and further away, the music she normally sings to turned into static. conrad would probably still be in cousins, not wanting to face his family back in boston. the traffic had quieted down, for people would be home with their families.
she pulled up the the house that had gotten it’s life back before julia took it all away. conrad and y/n were the main ones trying to save the house from being invaded by another family. even if they couldn’t, the cousins house would always have the fisher’s name on it. when y/n walked up to the front door, she slowly turned the doorknob and stepped in.
her footsteps lightly echoed due to the emptiness of the house, some of the front rooms still looking lifeless. y/n walked around, picturing everything exactly how susannah had it, all the portraits and loving decor she had around. she knew, though, that’s how conrad will set everything up.
the sun was just starting to dip down below the horizon, and when she spotted conrad sitting with his feet dipped in the pool, he looked lower than the sun ever could get.
she quietly stepped out onto the back, not saying a word until he noticed her. his head slowly tilted around, feeling her sweet eyes burning through him. he felt more relieved. she’s the only person he wants to see. she’s the one person who hasn’t ripped his heart out and used it.
“what are you doing back?” he questions, keeping his collected expression.
“i didn’t think you really wanted to be alone. you can’t fool me, conrad,” she smirks softly, moving over to sit next to him on the edge of the pool. she dips her feet into the cool water, not yet graced by the hot summer air.
“i don’t need you to be here for me, i don’t think i’m too good of company right now.”
“i think that’s exactly why you need me,” y/n says as conrad looks back to her. he’s always noticed y/n’s beauty on the outside, but he never got to really appreciate the inside. her mind was just as beautiful as her hair when the wind blows it, or the dimples on her cheeks when she’s happy. “you don’t have to do this alone, you know.”
“yeah,” he sighs, swaying his feet in the pool. “i thought jere would at least help me.”
“i talked to belly,” y/n tells him, seeing him quickly freeze and lean his head back.
“it’s not a big deal, y/n, really,” conrad says.
“it is to me. i never thought of her like this, but i don’t understand how she could do that to you.”
“it’s a me problem, clearly jeremiah’s better than i am.”
“that’s not true. belly’s young and thinks she’s innocent. she doesn’t deserve someone like you. she’ll never take the time to know you, but she’s going to jeremiah because he’s ‘easier’.” y/n replies. “you’re perfectly fine the way you are, and you never have to change for her, or me.”
“my mom always saw me with belly. i think that’s the worst part.”
“but your mom didn’t see what belly’s done to you. susannah would never want you to change in order to be with her.” y/n says, clearly to him. “susannah asked belly to be there, and she failed.”
“what do you mean?”
“when belly and i went to visit, she asked us to take care of you and jeremiah. belly barely looked after you, and i don’t even know if she’s helping jeremiah.”
“i get it, though. i left her at prom, and broke her heart.”
“was it shitty of you? yes, i’m not gonna lie to you. at this point, she’s taking it too far by playing with you and now it’s jeremiah’s turn.”
“maybe my mom was wrong,” he looks away, connecting his eyes back with the minute waves in the water. “i miss her. she was like a breath of fresh air, and i feel like i haven’t gotten that since she died.”
“she’s still here,” y/n tells him, seeing the corner of his mouth turn up a bit.
“i still feel her sometimes. if i’m home and i hear a noise, i’ll think she’s cooking, or painting. i don’t need people to see me fall apart.”
“you never have to hide, conrad. not anymore, and not from me.”
the next time he locks eyes with y/n, he can majorly see the sincerity in her face. there’s still a hint of when they were young in their eyes, memories swimming back into conrad’s head. every time she talked to him, all the time she spent with him. every party she skipped because conrad didn’t feel up to it, and she didn’t want him to be alone. he never felt nervous around y/n the way he did with her sister. they always had a complex relationship, but never once did y/n fail to be next to him. conrad let his inch closer to y/n’s, letting her hand lay on top of his, leaving solace in him. he never noticed how soft her hands were, literally and figuratively. she never once used him and glued his pieces back together. it’s then that he realizes that’s something belly never did.
impulsively, he moves his body more toward y/n, trying to get all the gladdening she can give. she’s more than happy to give it to him, letting conrad hold onto her and have her help him. the world around the boy became lighter, almost forgetting about his former despondency caused by belly. the closer he got to y/n, the more he thought that his mother had mistaken belly for the one.
he brushes a stand of y/n’s hair behind her ear, placing his hand on the side of her neck. she breathes lightly, knowing what conrad wants from her, but not knowing if he needs it.
“conrad,” she whispers, his name coming across incredibly from her lips. “you know i love you.”
“of course,” he says back, his hand trailing down her arm.
“but i won’t be a redemption because you cannot have belly. i’ve been the second choice once and i destroyed myself. i won’t do it again.”
“belly’s not who i want. i don’t think i’ve ever loved belly the way i have for you.” it all felt so sudden, the tension growing thicker between them as conrad only wanted to deepen the connection. y/n was just so horrified of hurting him more. she knows that she could help him and love him how he should, but she needs to know that he’s not just trying to get belly back.
“i think we need time, conrad. please?” she asks, and he nods, slipping his hand back down and grabbing her hand. “but trust me when i say that’s it’s not over with us.”
the meaning behind her words is stronger. in reality, she just wants to dive into conrad and accept anything he has to give, but he needs to strengthen his own heart first. he needs to know what he wants. if y/n needs time, he will wait for her.

summer is with you - j.fisher
part one (a glimpse of summer) - but can be read on its own!
masterlist
pairings: Jeremiah fisher x reader
warnings: fluff
a/n: THERE ARE NO SPOILERS OF SZN2 OR BOOK 2!!!
the door to your bedroom creaks open, you can hear him shushing the old hinges for their squeakiness.
you feel the mattress dip and can smell his shampoo, the smell makes a smile form to your lips as your eyes flutter open to see him staring at you. you could get used to waking up to his beautiful blue eyes.
“good morning.” he whispers gently placing a kiss to your forehead that makes your nose scrunch. you mumble the words back and flip over onto your other side for more sleep. usually you’re up and at ‘em, but summer time is meant for relaxing and taking each day one at a time. you’d have enough Jeremiah for three months.
“what are you doing today?” he asks nuzzling his head into the crook of your neck, you can feel his caramel colored curls tickling your skin making your body’s ticklish reflex kick in and kick his shin.
“trying to sleep.” you mumble shoving your face into your pillow.
“I have work in an hour, will you wake up for me?”he peppers, whatever part of your face is visible to him, with kisses before he finally leaves your bedroom.
the same hinges squeak yet again, but this time he doesn’t shush them, he just allows them to wake you up, and if that wasn’t enough Conrad’s stomping feet up the stairs certainly did.
“morning!” he calls into your bedroom completely ignoring that you hadn’t even risen out of bed, but the commotion of a summer morning certainly does.
—
salty hair, golden tan lines, a good book, and frozen lemonade are your company at the beach until Jeremiah’s shift was over. you lay sprawled across your towel listening to the seagulls and the ocean waves crash against the sand while reading.
any minute now you knew you would hear the clap of his flip flops against the sand, you can feel the excitement bubble in your stomach.
“y/n!” you hear him call as he runs against the thick sand, his flip flops kick sand every which way until he finally collapses against the edge of your towel. he’s wearing his red swim trunks from lifeguarding, and was throwing off the tank top they made him wear.
“hi,” you smile up from your book deciding it was no longer important. the beautiful smile and tan skinned boy in front of you was much more exciting than words on a page, “how was work?”
“boring, per usual.”
he takes the chance to kiss your chapped lips, and it’s like he’d been waiting to do it all day. the passion and desire behind it, made you melt as you reciprocate the same energy. his hand tugs on a strand of knotted hair from the waves, your mouth opens in response allowing his tongue to slip inside your mouth. he’d waited hours to kiss you.
“what’s all this for?” you pull away placing your hand on his visibly rising chest. his smile widens allowing you to see his pearly white teeth as he just shrugs, “can a guy miss his girlfriend?”
you nod pressing a gentle kiss to his lips before collapsing back against the sand, “just lay with me, jere.” you open your arms up and he doesn’t take a second to think before resting his head against your chest.
“I could spend all day here with you.” he sighs settling his body against yours. your legs naturally intertwine with one another, his fingers rake through your hair.
“cousins and you are my favorite.” you say with a long happy sigh as you close your eyes. you listen to his breathing pattern, the seagulls chattering, and the sound of the ocean. you could lose track of time here, and somehow you always do, because august always comes so soon.
“you’ll always be my favorite part of cousins, y/n.”

Summary: Being Belly & Steven’s older sibling has it’s pros and cons. protecting them and taking care of them is a must, but do you really have to put their feelings first instead of your own?
Prev ; Next || Conrad Fisher x fem!reader || My blog
Warning: angst, fluff, swearing(?), smoking, conrad being a two timer. (lmk if i missed anything!)
───────────────────────────
It was the night after me and Conrad talked. We were now in the dining room, eating the food Susannah prepared for us.
“So, I want to continue on your guys’ portraits tomorrow. Are you guys free?” Susannah smiled at us.
Susannah was almost done with our portraits. She just needed to put a little bit of touches, more color to it. We’d love to stay home and let her continue it but it was almost the end of summer, we all had our own plans.
Steven looked around the table, waiting for our answer. “Well I am free tomorrow, you can continue mine” he smiled.
I smiled at Steven and started to look around the table too. “Anyone else that’s free? it’s okay if you guys are not, it’s summer, you guys are supposed to have fun not be stuck here” Susannah reached for my hand and smiled.
“I don’t think i’ll be free tomorrow” Belly said, stopping herself from smiling. Trying to cover her mouth with her hand. That smile, I knew there was something going on. I just knew it.
Susannah and Laurel looked at her, confused while Steven looked at me like asking me if I knew what was going on. I shook my head no even though I knew.
“Wow! Belly is finally going out!” Steven teased Belly. I laughed “Shut up, Steve! Don’t tease her like that” I nudged him with my elbow and looked at Belly winking at her.
Belly smiled big, “Well whether you believe it or not, I am going on a date” she bit her lip — trying to contain her giggle.
I knew it. I knew Conrad was going to ask her anytime soon. This is what I wanted right? but why am I hurting? am I sad about it? I don’t think so.
I smiled, “So who’s the lucky guy? huh?” I asked — acting like I didn’t know, I definitely knew and Susannah knew that I knew.
Susannah who was still holding my hand, started to caress my hand. I looked at her, I nodded and smiled, as a way of saying that it was okay, that I was okay.
“Well, It’s Conrad” Belly said, trying not to giggle. My mom smiled, she looked excited, “Oh really? that’s nice!” finally, what she wanted was happening.
Steven looked at me, confused — trying to comprehend what was happening. He was confused with how Belly and Conrad happened, how it started, when it started.
“What the fuck, Conrad! Really? my sister?” Steven teased. “Hey! Don’t be like that!” my mom said glaring at Steven. Of course she’d defend them, this was something that she always saw back when we were little.
“Well, what about you Y/N? are you busy tomorrow? Jere?” Susannah said looking at us with a gentle smile.
I looked at Jeremiah, he was looking at me too, “I think i’m-“
“Me and Y/N actually got something tomorrow, Mom” Jeremiah said, cutting me off — smiling at Susannah.
I looked at Jeremiah — raising my brows at him. He just smiled and shrugged.
“What?! where are you guys going now? why am I not included in whatever this is?” Steven yelled while pointing fingers at us. I laughed at him along with Jeremiah and Belly.
“Oh come on, Steven. Let your sisters have fun without you!” my mom laughed, looking at me and Belly. Steven groaned and slumped on the chair he was sitting at, “This is not fair!!”
It was funny how he always acted like he knew everything, like he was the shit but when it comes to things like this, he acts like a child. He doesn’t like it when he feels left out.
“Well I guess it’s just you and me, Steven” Susannah smiled gently. I looked at Conrad, noticing that he was already looking at me, I looked away and turned my attention to Belly.
Belly looked back at me and smiled, I smiled back. She wanted this, this was her dream, to be with Conrad. She deserves this, she deserves to be happy. She is happy and I am happy too. That’s what matters.
───────────────────────────
After the dinner, I went up to my room and changed into my swimsuit. I decided to go for a swim, since it was something that always eased my mind.
It was such a nice night to swim, not that cold and not that hot. It was just the right temperature.
I went in and swam for a while. As I returned to the surface, I saw Conrad, smoking.
“Hey, there. Didn’t know you smoked” I tilted my head, smiling a little bit. It was the first time I saw him smoke, he never smoked.
Conrad smirked, taking a drag of his cigarette before answering me. “Well it just helps me sleep well” he shrugged.
“Yeah sure, It’ll kill you too.” I rolled my eyes and swam away from him.
This was different. Conrad was acting different, this wasn’t normal. I wanted to act like I didn’t care but I did. He’s my bestfriend too, I can’t afford to lose him.
As I returned again to the surface Conrad asked me, “Are you happy?” he titled his head, taking another drag of his cigarette.
“All of a sudden?” I asked him. I ask myself the same question, am I really happy? am I putting up a front? is whatever i’m doing right?
Conrad shrugged, “Yeah? Just wanted to ask, you seemed kinda off earlier” he looked at me in my eyes, trying to read my emotions. He always said I was an easy read, but he wondered why he can’t read me now.
I remained silent for a while — I didn’t know what the answer was because even I ask myself that. “Well we’re all complete. It’s summer, no school, no problems. I guess i’m not fully happy because of what Susannah’s going through right now but we’re all together so somehow I am happy.” I smiled gently, Conrad smiled back.
“Well I am glad you are happy because me too. I feel the same way” Conrad said, smiling at me — taking another drag of his cigarette. Looking at me while he blew the smoke out of his mouth.
I can see that he was happy but there was a glint in his eyes, I knew he wasn’t fully happy, how can he be happy when Susannah’s sick? — he made it so hard not to care for him but I knew I needed to stop this feeling, I needed to do it even if it hurts me.
I looked away from him, “So… where are you taking Belly?” I asked as I swam away from him, turning my back on him, trying to change the topic.
There was silence, I guess he didn’t want this conversation. He never expected to jump into this topic. He didn’t want to talk about this with me.
“Uhm, I’ll be taking her to her favorite restaurant and probably go to the arcade too or something” Conrad shrugged throwing his cigarette away, not really sure with his answer.
I turned, “That’s nice, Belly will absolutely love it” I smiled at him. He just looked at me with his brow furrowed, that look like I was crazy — like I was someone he didn’t know — all because he couldn’t figure it out, he couldn’t read me — it was so hard for him.
It was silent again not until Jeremiah came out of the door.
“Y/N! Go inside, it’s getting cold!” Jeremiah walked towards me with a towel in his hands. I swam all the way to the end of the pool where Jeremiah was, he lend a hand out and he helped me get out of the pool.
“Thank’s Jere” I took the towel and smiled at him gently. I wiped my face and rubbed it on my head then wrapped it around my shoulder.
I look back to check if Conrad was still there but he already stood up and started to walk inside the house.
Jeremiah looked at Conrad then looked back at me, I looked back at him, his brows furrowed, “You okay, Y/N/N?” I smiled at him and nodded, “Come on, let’s get back inside” I said — Jeremiah nodded and guided me back inside the house since I didn’t have any slippers on, we went inside the house and watched a movie with the moms.
There was a lot of things that happened today, my talk with Conrad, Conrad asking Belly out, and me and Jeremiah going out which I didn’t even know that we were, I am honestly glad that Jeremiah was there to save me. As of right now, if my sister is happy then I am happy too. As I said, that’s what matters.

A/n - I’m writing more for The Summer I Turned pretty so send in some requests here
Masterlist
You had been friends with the Fisher boys for a long time. And for a long time, you had done practically everything together. As you went into high school, parties became a more frequent activity you did together.
Another house was swarmed with teens. Flashing lights, blaring music, enough to reel everyone in. Jeremiah pulled into a spot on the road as the three of you glared at the scene. It was thrilling and it was a promise of a good night. Quite frankly, none of you could wait to join in all the fun.
Jeremiah turned around in the driver's seat, his eyes jumping between you in the back seat and Conrad in the passenger seat. "You guys know the rules alright?" Said Jere, stern in his expression.
The older brother laughed, "Of course we do." He replied. "You do realise you're barely ever the sober driver?"
"I am!" He argued as the brothers did. "There was Abi's party! I was the sober driver then."
You joined in with Conrad as you gave a giggle, "You do realise that was almost a year ago, Jere."
His expression moulded into one of disbelief, "What? No, no, it wasn't, I-" He came to realise you were in fact right. "Just, please, both be ready to leave at one." That was always the rule: one out of the three was the sober driver and the other two would always have to be ready at 1 am on the dot to leave.
Of course, it didn't always go to plan. But it was the plan you always followed. "Yes, understood."
Conrad's hand was on the door when he added, "Make sure Alec knows as well." It was a sly comment, similar to all the others he had been making for the past month.
You glared at him but he wouldn't look back. "He knows." You assured before being the first to exit the car, eager to slip away from Conrad's grumpy exterior.
Alec was another Summer hookup. One of which was made on the basis of no-strings-attached. It was meaningless, but thrilling and fun, a way to burn time when you had nothing else to do. And the moment you walked through the front door, he was by your side. And, only a moment later, you came to realise it was because he wanted to trace his hands around your waist, wanted to see if you would end up staying another night in his bed.
Instead, your hands tore his from your clothing, "Let's get a drink, hm?" You suggested.
His expression was hiding a scowl as he forced a nod. "Sure." He sighed, trailing behind you as you took his hand, dragging him through into the kitchen.
All night you had Alec's hands clawing at you and Conrad's gaze piercing into you. It was torture. You knew Conrad didn't like Alec, he didn't like any of your hookups, but it was beginning to get on your nerves. So, rather than stay put, you waited until it got to half past midnight when you downed the rest of your drink, grabbed Alec's hand and pulled him upstairs.
You shut the door, finding yourself in what you hoped was only a guest bedroom; very beige, very empty. You rushed towards the window, looking outside to spot Jere's Jeep. If Conrad thought he could make comments like that, stare as much as he pleased, you would make it as worse for him as you could do. Or maybe you just wanted to see what he would do - not that you would admit that to yourself. Deep down, you were truly just wanting to see how he would react if he would dare to be jealous or show any sign that he felt something romantic for you. Maybe it was an unfair way of doing things, but it had been years now, and never did he make a move.
"Finally," Came the voice from behind you. One of which you had almost forgotten. "Was beginning to think you weren't going to spare me some time tonight."
You turned, brows knitted, "What?"
He took a step closer, letting his eyes gaze across the lines of your body like it was his. "You've barely given me any attention tonight." He pointed out.
He went to go closer before you put out your hand. Your palm hit his chest with a thud that sounded through the whole room; his demeanour altered. "And you're making me not want to give you any more." His hands were sticky, once they touched your skin they seemed to never leave. And you were planning to make sure tonight, he never got to even brush a fingertip against you.
It was fun while it lasted, you thought.
"Come on, don't be like that." Alec critiqued.
"You're just pissed because you're not gonna get any tonight." It came out of your mouth before you could stop it, but you weren't exactly upset about it.
The boy across from you simply scoffed, "Don't pretend as if you're not in this for any other reason." You couldn't argue about that.
"You know I don't even think I've got any more reasons to continue this." You huffed. Tonight had seemed to put you completely off the boy.
"So, you're ending this?"
Your arms folded around your chest and you came to shrug, "Yeah, I guess I am."
There: the door swung open. You and Alec, meters apart, scowls on both of your faces. And in the doorway stood Conrad Fisher, him too wearing a scowl.
But rather than another sly comment about why you were late to the car, he found the scene cause for concern. "What's going on?" His eyes were burning into Alec, only daring to give you a glimpse every now and again.
You thought then it was best to screw your plan. It wasn't as if Conrad was getting jealous. In fact, he seemed more protective over you, worried by the state Alec was in. "Nothing." You huffed in an obvious lie, grabbing your bag and heading to the door. "Let's go."
Conrad was right behind you. He was turning, ready to leave whatever had happened behind him. But then, of course, Alec had to go and open his mouth. "You know I should have believed what they said about you!" He yelled, the door open for everyone outside to overhear.
Both you and Conrad came to a halt. And you both turned to face him. His skin was burning, his fists clenched and you were scared if you got any closer, you would be leaving with a black eye. "Everyone makes mistakes." You flashed a weak, sarcastic smile, more than ready to fleet this scene you had caused.
"Every week, a different boy right? I'm surprised I lasted this long!" He chuckled so sinisterly.
Conrad started walking over. The second his foot moved, your hand reached for his, so unlucky that his fingers slipped from yours like butter before you could get a grip. "What you gonna do, Fisher?" Alec tormented.
Like that, he invited what was coming for him. "This." Before he had even finished his before, the fist was thrown.
"Conrad!" You snapped but it was no use.
Alec stared back at him, fury written within his pupils. Before you could do anything, they were wrapped between limbs, fighting to leave bruises, a punch here and there. By now, half of the party was crowded around this small doorway, cheering the two boys on like it was a boxing match. It took a good few minutes before Conrad finally got Alec to stay down - not without a few lingering bruises and cuts himself though.
He was staring down at Alec like he was meat. And before you came over to him, you weren't sure he was going to snap out of it. Your hand wrapped around his forearm, "Conrad," You whispered his name like it was fresh air. He almost jumped as he stared back at you. Your finger came to his cheek, brushing at it, "Let's go."
The boy nodded, letting you lead him towards the Jeep where Jeremiah was still waiting for you. As you weaved your way through the party, neither of you dared to let go of the other. You weren't sure why Conrad was so pulled to punch Alec, and you weren't saying it wasn't deserved, but you knew them bruises weren't going to be painless. For that, you would feel a tad guilty - you were the reason he had even come up to the room, why Alec was so angry in the first place, you just wished you could have stopped him from breaking out that fight.
You wandered out to the car where Jere jumped out from the driver's seat. He was readying some lecture to you both but when he took in the state of the two of you, he was taken aback. "Jesus," He huffed as you and Conrad stumbled towards the back door. "What the hell happened to you guys?"
Conrad stopped for a moment to address Jere, "Long story." And with that, he got into the car and you followed him.
It was silent until Jere started driving, his eyes flickering to the rear-view mirror to catch glimpses of you two tangled in the back seats together. Finally, he had to ask, "This didn't have something to do with Alec, did it?"
Conrad glared at his brother, "He just doesn't know when to shut up." The boy grumbled, going back to staring mindlessly out the window.
"So you started a fight with him?" The younger brother quipped.
And before an argument could spark between the two you jumped in, "I tried to stop it alright." You didn't realise that was only going to start an argument between you and Jere instead.
"Really?" Jere shook his head and it prompted a pit to grow in your stomach. "The only reason he was up there was because you weren't at the car when you were supposed to be. And by the sounds of it, you were hooking up with your little boyfriend while we were waiting for you!" That guilt only grew with every word that fell from Jeremiah's lips.
You sat further back in your seat, "I'm sorry," You said like a scolded child. "I lost track of time."
The rest of the car journey was silent. There was thick tension between each of you and when you returned to the Fisher house, it finally started to settle.
Jere went straight to his own room. And Conrad was about to do the same before you reached out your hand, taking a grasp of his wrist. He stopped ad slowly spun to face you. A good few silent seconds passed before you said anything, "You can't go to bed like that." You pointed towards the black eye that was forming on his face. "Come on," You nodded your head toward the kitchen and he started following you.
His fingers came to interwind with your own as you wandered towards the bar stool, guiding Conrad to sit on one of them. From there, in the silence and the dim light, you gathered frozen pees and returned to the beaten boy. Your eyes locked onto his. It was as if the whole world stopped when you looked at Conrad. For that one moment, you were completely encompassed by his blue pupils, forgetting why you were here, why he had a swollen eye and why you had a pit in your stomach.
When the moment passed, it all came flooding back. You took a step forward and ever so quietly pressed the packet towards his eye. "I'm sorry you got hurt." You finally broke the silence.
Conrad shrugged, "It was worth it, knowing he's hurting more." You could have predicted he would say that.
"Jere's right though." You said, the guilt laced within your tone. "The only reason you were there was because of me."
Conrad stepped up abruptly, forcing you to retract the frozen pees, "Don't let him get to you like that, he was just pissed. If he was in that room too he would have done the same thing too." A part of you faulted at that. If Jere would have done it, then maybe Conrad's actions didn't come from a place of deep-rooted romance, more just like protecting a younger sister.
"Yeah, maybe." Your eyes fell to the floor.
It sparked something. Before you could move, Conrad's finger was under your chin, prompting you to look back at him; there you were, locked. "He was a dick anyway." He offered a smile.
"That's what you say about everyone I get with."
Conrad couldn't deny that but he could excuse it. "Because they'll all dicks and don't how to treat you right."
That urged a grin of your own, "Okay then, find me someone who isn't and maybe you'll have one less black eye." Your own hand reached out this time, tracing the yellow patches which were already forming.
"That might take a while." He shrugged.
You didn't move your hand from his skin, "Maybe not."
You watched as his expression moulded into one of confusion, "What?"
"Conrad," Your voice had a sudden shake to it, "You're the only person I know who treats me right, who knows exactly what I need, how I feel, you're like a mind reader." You were beginning to pour your heart out. "You've been by my side since I can remember. And you are always the one to pick me up after the dickhead guys leave me behind, and you're always the one to fight them for me - when it's needed of course." Conrad was following your every word as you tried to forget this could be the be-all and end-all. "What I'm trying to say is that I really like you and I don't want to go through any more hookups or stupid boys. I just want you."
You took a breath like it was the first time. Like now you had said that your breath was fresh, it was weightless. When you looked at Conrad, you felt like you were hanging onto a thread and he was holding the scissors. His hands came to cup the sides of your face and you became weak at his touch, "I'm glad you finally came to your senses." And with that, he sealed the words by leaning into your lips.
Sure, the night had been chaotic, but somehow it had ended in the dim light of the Beach House kitchen, whispering sweet nothings and confirming the feelings that you had been holding in for years.
