Leather Jacket Records (Christchurch, New Zealand) has been on a tear for the past couple of years. It seems lately they are trending to releasing new music rather than reissues. While "Children of the Rule b/w Waikouaiti" isn't a reissue, the music represents new music from someone who's been playing music for nearly 40 years. I was first introduced to Jay Clarkson's music on the amazing Tuatara compilation - Expendables' "Man With No Desire".
Now comes this single from Jay Clarkson & The Container (Waikouaiti, New Zealand). The Containers are a veritable who's who of New Zealand musicians - I mean Alan Haig (The Chills, Snapper, etc.) and Mike Dooley (Toy Love, The Enemy) are HEAVYWEIGHTS in the annals of New Zealand rock.
Paul Kean (another big hitter from The Bats) mixed and mastered this.

Be careful what you wish for
What will the Gregg Wallace saga teach us? The probable answer is: absolutely nothing. It’s not a question of teaching old dogs new tricks. More that, as we are in the field of time-worn adages, you can lead a horse to water…
Because (and I am not, decidedly not, claiming to know that Gregg was guilty of inappropriate behaviour: that is for others to determine) once again, the BBC (it is not always the BBC, but is more often than it should be) seems to have got exactly what it bargained for.
You can almost hear the commissioning team’s discussion over who to pick to front the Masterchef cash cow and the others. “We can’t have two people who are refined. The public won’t buy it. What we need is someone who’s a bit of a geezer, a bit of a lad. A cheeky chappie. You know, a bit … edgy. A bit … working class.” “How about an East End greengrocer who hasn’t grown into his vowels yet?” “Oh, yes!”
Sounds a bit patronising? Well surely no surprise there. It’s how we got the likes of Jonathan Ross, Russell Brand, Jeremy Clarkson, Alan Carr, Jay Blades (I am not saying that any of these is a bad person, just that they share certain personality traits that made them appealing to condescending and algorithmically-driven snobs). And that’s without referencing Jimmy Savile. It’s the same mindset that foisted Mrs Brown’s Boys on us, insisting it is a “comedy” and East Enders, insisting it was “true to East End life”. It’s the same mindset that gives us those God-awful afternoon quiz shows in which ignorant people are encouraged to parade their ignorance. Away from the BBC, it is how we got those interminable “reality” TV shows: Love Island, Big Brother, The Only Way is Essex, to name but one.
It’s not new. The Upper Classes have always favoured a bit of rough, so long as it knows its place. It makes them feel more in control. It makes them feel superior. Until, of course, the bit of rough begins to get ideas above its station. Until, that is, the bit of rough not so much forgets itself as remembers itself.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m an Essex Boy myself. My family tree is two hundred years of East London. But if your idea of authenticity is that bit of rough, nicely muzzled at first, don’t be surprised if it takes the skin off your hand when you make a deal with it. If you want a diamond geezer don’t ever expect him to polish up like the finest brilliant cut.
I was born in the Fifties, in Ilford, and I grew up with “banter” and men behaving badly. It was banter of the ugliest kind and women were the butt of most of it. The rest was reserved for lesbians and homosexuals and the racial minorities. A lot of my generation and the generations that came after it gradually learned better. Sadly a lot didn’t. A lot thought, and still do think, that it was their manhood that was under threat when women found enough of a voice to explain about respect and consent and to expect a bit of common decency. They didn’t realise, and sadly still don’t, that respect and decency are the hallmarks of real manhood, that restraint and consideration and kindness are qualities to be admired and emulated and that self-indulgence and bullying are actually the marks of weakness and failure.
Again, I am not saying that the allegations against Gregg Wallace are true, but I have known, and still encounter, men of my age who, it seems, cannot contain themselves when a woman is present, particularly a young and attractive woman. They seem to believe they have a duty to be – in their minds – laddish, and in everyone else’s mind boorish.
But look at the evidence and you have to wonder if perhaps the commissioning teams actually got it – us – right. In the US, we have just witnessed the election of a philandering, groping slob, one who doesn’t even try to disguise his bullying baseness or his low opinion of women, especially bright women. We have had Weinstein behaving towards young and vulnerable women in ways that would make a teenage boy blench. And yet still we defend the behaviour.
Last Sunday I was in the White Horse. Most of the time the chat was pleasant and light but someone brought up the Wallace affair. His view, as a sixty-something male of reasonable education and professional status, was that it was all a “witch hunt” by “the woke” and that nobody was safe from these vigilantes. I attempted to put the other side but my attempt was howled down, not least by the two women present, one of whom was a primary school head teacher who claimed, proudly, that she “liked a bit of banter and didn’t see anything wrong with it”.
So maybe they got it right and maybe this kind of behaviour is what we truly wish for.
So here goes. Have you heard the one about ….

Favorite Songs - Part 1
We’re going to start making these posts for groups of alters. We haven’t decided on how exactly to sort the alters into groups, so we’re going by source/clique for now. Not every alter is active online but most of them have agreed to participate in this
WARNING: Some songs listed may contain mature content.
PART ONE - GENSHIN FICTVIES (Fatui Edition)
JAX - He/They
(Source: Tartaglia)
Undress Rehearsal by Timeflies
It’s just a really fun song. I know it’s a pretty flirty and somewhat sexual song, but it’s very upbeat and catchy and just a super fun song to dance to. 9/10
The Bad Guy by...IDK whether to list Thomas Sanders or Jay Harper
I know nothing of “Ultimate Story Time” and very little of Thomas Sanders and his content, but this song is good
It’s kind of angsty and sound almost Disney-esque. It’s like what you’d find if Descendants was created with as much care and tact as Frozen. Overall, solid 8/10
The entire Hamilton soundtrack
I’M JUST LIKE MY COUNTRY I’M YOUNG SCRAPPY AND HUNGRY AND I’M NOT THROWING AWAY MY SHOT
I have memorized the entire first act and like half of the second act
HERCULES MULLIGAN I NEED NO INTRODUCTION WHEN YOU KNOCK ME DOWN I GET THE FUCK BACK UP AGAIN
I’m not much of a musical fan but THIS
I’M TAKING THIS HORSE BY THE REIGNS MAKE THEIR REDCOATS REDDER WITH BLOODSTAINS
I hate irl George Washington but the fictionalized version here is a badass and reminds me of a few of my role models/superiors from work
10/10
That Jellyfish Rave Song From SpongeBob
I don’t need to justify myself. 11/10
YUKI - They/He/It
(Source: Scaramouche)
Experiment On Me by Halsey
I know this song is a feminist thing and I’m not sure if my nonbinary ass is allowed to vibe with it, but I like it. I scream it very loudly. Bridge is too long, but not enough to ruin it. 6/10
Brutal by Olivia Rodrigo
A vibe. 7/10
Turn It Off by Paramore
9/10
Waiting On A Miracle from Encanto
When I formed in the system, Encanto was at the height of its popularity, so I was very exposed to it and ended up latching onto it pretty hard, this song most of all.
It hits close to home. If I try to explain any better than that, I’ll just end up ranting about my emotional issues for 17 paragraphs.
10/10
Six (the Musical)
I like musicals and this is one of my favorites. I don’t really have a reason for why I like this one other than the songs slap. 6/10 because...Six
Loser Geek Whatever from Be More Chill
Again with the musicals...8/10
If Only from Descendants
I’m personally not the biggest fan of this movie series, but some of the Littles like it, hence why Jax and I have seen it. It’s got its charms as well as its issues... but this song in particular was really good. I also laughed harder than I should have at the “Do What You Gotta Do” scene in the third one, and “My Once Upon a Time” was also pretty enjoyable. 9/10 if I add up the three Descendants songs I like.
Bohemian Rhapsody, but specifically the “IT” Musical Parody version
I like the original version of the song by Queen, but this one is really funny 10/10
KNAVE - She/They
(Source: Arlecchino)
God Sent Me As Karma and The Audacity by Emlyn
This artist’s music is awesome.
These are just my top two songs by this singer.
10/10
Boyfriend by Dove Cameron
WILL steal your girl. 10/10
That Bitch by Bea Miller
Warning: very explicit language
10/10
ZERO - He/It
(Source: Dottore - Fuzztive, younger than canon)
CBAT by Hudson Mohawka
HAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA 11/10
CAPITANO - He/Him
(Source: Do you have to ask? It’s Capitano)
Kelly Clarkson
Fuck your toxic masculinity

Early childhood and educational career Tiwatope Savage was born on 5 February 1980, in Isale Eko, Lagos State, Nigeria. Her family relocated to London when she was 11 years old. While attending secondary school, she was a trombone player for her school's orchestra band. Savage graduated with a degree in accounting from the University of Kent, and started working at The Royal Bank of Scotland. She did backup vocals for English singer George Michael at the age of 16, and lent vocals to other musicians such as Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Blu Cantrell, Emma Bunton, Kelly Clarkson, Andrea Bocelli and Ms. Dynamite. Savage enrolled at Berklee College of Music and graduated with a degree in professional music in 2007. While reminiscing about her experiences there, she said she was motivated by the drive and passion of the younger students. She also said she needed the school's atmosphere.

Music career and accolades In 2006, Savage participated in the UK edition of The X Factor and advanced to the final 24, but ended up being the 12th person to be evicted. While participating, she had difficulty dealing with the limelight. She said, "You have to always realize that people are watching. When I got the bad news that I wasn't getting through it was a really painful time. But you still have to learn how to hold that until you get home. Because you don't want to just let everything out. People admire you and want to see that you're strong; they don't want to see you breaking down." In 2009, Savage signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing. The deal allowed her to write for Babyface, Kat Deluna, Fantasia, Monica and Mýa. She has received songwriting credits for her contribution to Monica's soul-tinged ballad "Catch Me". Her collaboration with Fantasia on the song "Collard Greens & Cornbread" earned the American recording artist a Grammy nomination in 2010. Savage wrote Jaicko's "Oh Yeah", featuring Snoop Dogg, and Deluna's "Push Push", featuring Akon. She performed background vocals on Whitney Houston's album I Look to You (2009). Inspired by the growth of the Nigerian music industry, Savage moved back to Nigeria and signed with Mavin Records in 2012.

Once Upon a Time, record deal and endorsement This album is straight from my heart and it's something that I've worked so tirelessly for. A lot of people wondered why it took me so long a time to drop my own album. That's because we had to go through a lot of legal processes to clear some of the samples that we used, and that took us some months. Also, we wanted to work with notable producers outside the shores of the country like Oak who produces Rihanna. So, we had to work around his schedule and waited for them to have our time. But this album is something that I really took my time with because I didn't want it to be the usual Nigerian album that contains just party tracks from the beginning till the end. -Tiwa Savage, speaking to Vanguard about her debut studio album In December 2011, Savage co-hosted the second season of Nigerian Idol alongside IllRymz. She made her film debut with Joke Silva and Ireti Doyle in the stage adaptation of For Coloured Girls. Savage established the 323 Entertainment record label with her former manager and husband Tunji "Tee Billz" Balogun, to whom she got engaged on 5 February 2013. She joined Mavin Records in 2012 and was one of the lead acts on the label's compilation album Solar Plexus (2012). While attending Berklee College of Music, she networked with musicians Keith Harris, Derek Pate, Scott Coleman, Radar Ellis, and Darien Dorsey. In an interview with journalist Brenda Pike, she said she collaborated with producers Chuck Harmony, Warren "Oak" Felder, and Sossick, among others. She said her debut studio album would include songs in her native tongue. Tiwa Savage was featured on the remix of "Oyi" in 2012. Prior to collaborating with Flavour, she recorded her own version of the song. In celebration of the 52nd anniversary of Nigeria's independence, Savage performed her rendition of "Arise, O Compatriots" for Ndani Sessions. In November 2012, she collaborated with Waje, Praiz, Timi Dakolo and Pamela Egoh on the Ovation Red Carol theme song "Higher". Savage started recording her debut studio album Once Upon a Time in 2010. She held an album listening party at the Wheatbaker Hotel in Ikoyi in May 2013. During the listening party, she revealed the entire track list of the album and announced Iceberg Slim, Sarkodie and General Pype as featured acts. The album was released to the Nigerian public on 3 July 2013. It was released on iTunes a day before its official release. Savage named the album Once Upon a Time in order to portray the positive stories about her life. She said she wanted to motivate other upcoming artists by telling them that, once upon a time, she was a little girl in Isale Eko who dreamt of being a star. The album was supported by seven singles—"Kele Kele Love", "Love Me (3x)", "Without My Heart", "Ife Wa Gbona", "Folarin", "Olorun Mi" and "Eminado". It also includes political songs like "Middle Passage", which is about the struggles of African men in a foreign country. Once Upon a Time was nominated for Best Album of the Year at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. It was also nominated for Best R&B/Pop Album at The Headies 2014.

Savage recorded the album while pregnant with her son. The album was made available for free digital streaming on MTN Music on 21 December 2015. Within 24 hours of its release, it became the music platform's most-streamed album. The album was promoted through the website i-am-red.com. In June 2016, there were reports in the media that Savage had signed a management and publishing deal with Roc Nation. On 29 July 2016, she made it official by announcing the deal through her Instagram account, making her the first Nigerian artist to be signed to the label.

Sugarcane was nominated for Best Album of the Year at the 2018 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. Savage revealed to The Fader magazine that she did not have any plans to release the EP, but decided to put out the project after recording so much music for her upcoming album. Sugarcane is a mixture of Afropop, funk, house, pop music, R&B and trap. On 24 August 2018, Savage headlined a concert at The O2's Indigo venue. General admission tickets sold out hours before the event. The concert featured additional performances from Don Jazzy, Reekado Banks, Di'Ja, Dr SID, WSTRN, Awilo Longomba, Mystro and the Alternate Sound Band. Prior to the concert, Savage held a pop-up shop on Berwick Street. In November 2018, Savage won Best African Act at the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards, becoming the first woman to win the category. Savage released the melodic track "One" on 15 November 2018. Produced by Killer Tunez, it touches upon themes of gratitude. Akinpelu Oluwafunmilayo for Legit.ng described the song as an "Afrobeat song with a soft tempo and smooth rhythmical flow". On 2 December 2018, Savage performed at the 2018 Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100, which took place at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa. News about her performance at the festival was first reported in July 2018. The video for "One" was released on 7 December 2018. Directed by Clarence Peters, it was shot at a local beach in Osoroko, Lagos. In January 2019, YouTube took down the video for "One" following accusations of copyright violations. Due to not being able to verify a copyright violation, YouTube restored the video on 2 March 2019. On 13 March, Savage was added to the lineup of artists who performed at the 2019 Wireless Festival. On 2 May 2019, Universal Music Group announced the signing of Savage to a seven-year publishing and distribution deal. It was also revealed that she left Mavin Records Efe Ogbeni of Regime Music Societe and Vannessa Amadi-Ogbonna will be responsible for executive producing all of her projects under the label. Savage's future music will be released through the label's operations in more than 60 countries. In July 2019, Savage was featured on "Keys to the Kingdom", a track she co-wrote for Beyoncé's soundtrack album The Lion King: The Gift. She appeared on the track alongside Mr Eazi. On 5 September 2019, Savage released "49-99", her first single with Motown Records. The song references the line "49 sitting, 99 standing" from Fela Kuti's 1978 hit "Shuffering and Shmiling". Described as a blend of Afrobeat, R&B and pop music, "49-99" features syncopated percussion, humming background harmonies and crisp snares. The Meji Alabi-directed video for "49-99" features colorful imagery and symbolism. One of the video's scenes references the iconic portraits of Congolese schoolgirls taken in 1972 by photographer Eliot Elisofon. Another scene, in which Savage is laid out with lengthy braids, is reminiscent of Diana Ross' flower-accented look from the late 1960s. On 19 November 2019, Savage released the Black Jheerze-produced track "Attention" and the Pheelz-produced track "Owo Mi Da" as standalone singles. In "Attention", she admonishes her love interest for the lack of attention he is putting into their relationship while in "Owo Mi Da", she makes cut throat remarks at an unnamed borrower. Savage performed background vocals on "Èkó", a slow-burning ballad from Coldplay's eighth studio album Everyday Life (2019).

As many of you may recall, I totally suck tail at finishing reading challenges. I have gone bust on every one I’ve attempted the past couple of years.
I’ve fallen behind on my Goodreads challenge for 2018 by 23 books thus far! LOL! I have to laugh to keep from crying!
At least I have a good excuse for failing miserably at the challenges for which I did sign up this year – I’ve been through a LOT of shitty – and amazing – changes lately.
Anyhow, I’m giving POPSUGAR’s 2019 Reading Challenge another shot – I adore the categories!
This coming year, I’ve decided that instead of simply cramming books onto a list to fill category requirements, I’m picking books based on what I want to read anyway.
This beyond brilliant technique will undoubtedly make it easier for me to at least partially complete 2019’s challenge!
A book becoming a movie in 2019…I was so happy when I stumbled across the fact that Nicola Yoon’s The Sun is Also a Star will be adapted for the big screen, releasing May 17, 2019.
I’ve loved this book since simply laying eyes on its cover. From what I’ve heard and read, I shall not be disappointed.
A book that makes me nostalgic…as a child I absolutely adored Laura Ingalls Wilder’s autobiographical Little House series.
I began rereading the books this year and up next is number four in the series, On the Banks of Plum Creek.
I’m thrilled to have begun rereading the Little House books – they truly transport me back into the throes of reading in my grade school’s library.
A book written by a musician…the Red Hot Chili Peppers are among my favorite bands; they’re seemingly ageless – the band members themselves as well as their songs.
As I’ve followed his band since at least middle school, I’ve wanted to read lead singer Anthony Kiedis’ memoir Scar Tissue ever since I stumbled across it a few years ago.
A book I think should be turned into a movie…This is a really tough one for me – I’m such a weirdo about books becoming movies so close to books’ original release dates.
OK, I’ve made an amazing – in my own mind – decision – the graphic novel series, Saga by Brian K. Vaughan is genius and should definitely be adapted into either a TV miniseries or movie.
Currently, I’m poised to read Vol. 7; however, I plan to read Vol. 8 and Vol. 9 as well in 2019. I’ve got to catch up with this amazing series!
A book with at least one million ratings on Goodreads…I had to do some painstaking research – not really – into locating a book fitting this category.
As expected, classics and Harry Potter are the highest rated books on Goodreads. With over two million ratings, George Orwell’s 1984 is my choice!
A book with a plant in the title or on the cover…At first, I thought of doing – attempting – a reread of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude, but, since I wasn’t too fond of the book the first time around, I’ve decided to take a different route with this category.
I’ve chosen a book that has been withering away on my TBR list for years, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith.
A reread of a favorite book…John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men has been special to me since reading it in middle school.
I’ve wanted to reread Steinbeck’s tale for a long time – I want to revisit the feelings the book elicited when I first read it.
A book about a hobby…As a perennial book lover, I was so excited to find out that there are seriously books ABOUT books out there!
Hence my choice to read Book Girl by Sarah Clarkson. Why haven’t I written a book about reading?!
A book I meant to read in 2018…Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell is the top book I really wanted to read this year; however, it wasn’t in the cards for 2018.
A book with “pop, “sugar,” or “challenge” in the title…I’m really looking forward to reading the first installment of the Dork Diaries series by Rachel Renee Russell – I have put it on library hold seemingly 5000 times!
So, I’ve decided to read the first two Dork Diaries tales and then read book three,Tales from a Not-So-Talented Pop Star!
A book with an item of clothing or accessory on the cover…The Secret Lives of Dresses by Erin McKean was gifted to me by a blog swap buddy a couple of years ago and now I have a reason to read it! LOL!
I’ve been curious about it since receiving it and am excited to finally dive between its covers.
A book inspired by mythology, legend, or folklore…I will finally be delving into the first in Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series, The Lightning Thief, in 2019!
In the midst of reading two of Riordan’s other series, the Kane Chronicles and Magnus Chase, I’m looking forward to meeting another of the epic writer’s characters.
A book published posthumously…As much as I loved Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park, it’s only natural that I should be interested in the author’s posthumously published Dragon Teeth!
What I find so interesting about Dragon Teeth is the fact that it’s not part of the Jurassic Park series. Although its subject matter appears to regard dinosaurs as well, I’m looking forward to a different take on the topic.
A book I’ve seen someone reading on TV or in a movie…Another tough category for me, I decided to go the easy route and choose a popular book discussed on the PBS limited series, The Great American Read!
I’ve never watched The Gilmore Girls, so I felt weird picking a book from Rory’s list. However, I do plan to undertake the reading challenge based on the show, so stay tuned!
Anyhow, I’ve chosen Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White.
Honestly, I can’t remember if I’ve ever read White’s children’s classic! I know the basics of the story, but will be glad to get the full experience of the emotional tale.
A retelling of a classic…I am so damn silly! I totally thought Hunted by Meagan Spooner is a retelling of Snow White! I just discovered that the book is, in fact, a twist on aanother tale as old as time, Beauty and the Beast, making me even more excited to devour it!
While I love a good retelling, especially of a fairy tale, I have never read one based on Beauty and the Beast, so this should be entertaining and different at the very least!
A book with a question in the title…I reread Caroline B. Cooney’s The Face on the Milk Carton this year and imagine my surprise and delight when I found that its sequel,Whatever Happened to Janie?, fits right into this challenge!
A book set on a college or university campus…I was astonished to find that I already want to read a college campus-based book, The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach.
Initially attracted by its cover and title, I’ve wanted to read The Art of Fielding for quite a while!
A book about someone with a superpower…G. Willow Wilson quickly became a favorite author when I was first introduced to her amazing Ms. Marvel series.
I’m thrilled about this category and have elected to read Wilson’s Ms. Marvel, Vol. 5: Super Famous!
A book told from multiple character POVs…I’ve never before been compelled to read Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells…until tonight, November 20.
I’m surprisingly excited about reading Wells’ novel, especially after seeing the cute cover – of course!
A book set in space…Yay for this category! I’ve been about to explode to read Arthur C. Clarke’s sci-fi wonder, 3001: The Final Odyssey.
I loved the first three books in Clarke’s series and can’t wait to find out how it ends!
A book by two female authors…I received a gorgeous copy of These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner via a now-forgotten-which bookish surprise box.
I’ve read Amie Kaufman’s writing with Jay Kristoff; however, have never read the work that is solely hers…I must do that.
A book with a title that contains “salty,” “sweet,” “bitter,” or “spicy”…I’m mixing it up just a tad for this category – by dropping the ‘y’ in “salty”!
So, I’m going for Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys, which has also been on my TBR list for ages.
A book set in Scandinavia…this pick seems sort of obvious – at least to me! Anyway, I’ve chosen to read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson.
Yet another book already on my TBR list and that I own [YAY], I’ve been really curious about it for a long time.
A book that takes place in a single day…I have only read J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye, but, I’ve been curious for a while about the author’s Franny & Zooey.
Clocking in at just over 200 pages, maybe this one-day tale will take a single day to read!
A debut novel…Kara McDowell is the 2019 debut author I plan to read, as her first release, Just For Clicks, looks like it has grand potential to be adorable!
I love that the book gives credence to the wonderful world of blogging, drawing me in even further!
A book published in 2019…Angie Thomas has very quickly become one of my favorite authors.
Her debut novel, the incredibly powerful The Hate U Give resonates with my heart and soul very much, to my initial surprise.
I’ve chosen the sure-to-be-amazing-as-well On the Come Up, also by Thomas to fill this category. On the Come Up releases February 5, 2019.
A book featuring an extinct or imaginary creature…While I believe I’d call the serpent Apophis mythological rather than totally imaginary, I’m still going with – another Rick Riordan book – The Serpent’s Shadow, the finale to the Kane Chronicles trilogy.
A book recommended by a celebrity I admire…At first, I was stumped by this category…there honestly aren’t many celebrities I admire anymore and I just don’t keep up with pop culture the way I did in the past.
Luckily, I found a recommendation by Prince Harry’s duchess, Meghan Markle!
Markle suggests reading The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. I’ve wanted to read this book for ages, and finally I don’t have an excuse not to do so!
A book with “love” in the title…I am so stoked to read From Twinkle with, Love by Sandhya Menon!
I adored When Dimple Met Rishi, so my expectations are pretty high for this one!
A book featuring an amateur detective…it’s no secret that I’m still in love with Carolyn Keene’s beyond classic Nancy Drew books!
Since it’s so tough to choose which of Nancy’s adventures to read, I’m just going to pull a title out of my proverbial hat! And…I’m going with…The Witch Tree Symbol!
A book about a family…I read what seemed at the time like a TON of Shakespeare throughout high school English classes.
Among my top three favorite plays by the famous writer is King Lear, which follows the tragic saga of the play’s eponymous ruler and his daughters.
I have the full-cast play on Audible and definitely plan to listen to the performance!
A book written by an author from Asia, Africa, or South America…I’ve been really curious about Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi, a Nigerian-American author, ever since its release.
This book seamlessly slides right into the challenge and is a must-read, so no-brainer here!
A book with a zodiac sign or astrology term in the title…After perusing a Goodreads list regarding this topic, I chose Maggie Stiefvater’s The Scorpio Races.
I’m really excited to have discovered this title on another challenge participant’s list. It’s really so obvious, it’s silly that I blanked on this category!
A book that includes a wedding…I’m finally at number 12 on my library’s waiting list to read Morgan Matson’s Save the Date and I couldn’t be more excited!
I have yet to read Matson’s work, so unless I get to something else by her before my official checkout date, this will [obviously] be my first!
A book by an author whose first and last names start with the same letter…Francis Scott Fitzgerald, legendary author of The Great Gatsby, is the one whose work I have chosen to be entertained by for this category.
This will be a rare reread for me, as, probably like many of you, I originally read the book as a sophomore in high school.
I vividly remember writing essay after essay about the symbolism and foreshadowing in Fitzgerald’s novel. My study of The Great Gatsby as a teen truly helped to expand my reading horizons.
A ghost story…The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson is a tale with which I am unfamiliar, but have heard of, especially whenever the movie rendition was released.
I absolutely love to scare myself – via safe methods – and I’m excited to get to this one!
A book with a two-word title…The Pearl by John Steinbeck is yet another little, yet powerful, book I was assigned to read in grade school.
At the time of my initial reading of the story, I hated every word. Here’s to hoping that I will be able to appreciate Steinbeck’s work as an adult reader!
A novel based on a true story…Who in the world would have thought Agatha Christie’s mystery classic, Murder on the Orient Express, was literally inspired by the kidnapping of Charles Lindburgh’s infant son, of which news had broken a few years prior to Christie’s drafting of the novel?
This fact simply blows my mind! I researched a tiny bit and found that the Lindburgh kidnapping was still hot news, more than likely serving as a muse for Christie when she wrote the story
A book revolving around a puzzle or game…A book I read in probably seventh grade, once again, of course, in English class,The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell, is one of those tales of yore that completely sticks out in my mind.
My favorite prompt from a past POPSUGAR reading challenge…Because I love a good graphic novel, I’ve chosen to use the 2016 prompt to read one!
I’ve owned – and have been meaning to read – Monstress, Vol. 1: Awakening by Marjorie M. Liu forever, so, no more excuses!
A “cli-fi” [climate fiction] book…I honestly rolled the hell out of my eyes when I saw this category, I mean seriously. But, these are the days in which we live – LOL!
I was beyond thrilled to find that Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and Crake falls into this category. As I already have Oryx and Crake on my TBR list, I don’t have to frantically search for a filler book!
A choose-your-own-adventure book…All right – I can’t seem to find a book to fit into this category anywhere, so, stay tuned for this one!
An “own voices” book…I was so thrilled to see that Jenny Han’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is an own voices book!
I’ve been dying to start Han’s trilogy, but I am determined to get to it in 2019!
Read a book during the season in which it is set…I’ve picked another Maggie Stiefvater tale for this category, Shiver, the first in Stiefvater’s Wolves of Mercy Falls series.
I’ve never read a book revolving around werewolves, so this should be a cool step in a different direction.
A LitRPG book…I really didn’t want to read Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. However, I shall bend for the category and read it!
A book with no chapters/unusual chapter headings/unconventionally numbered chapters…I am totally picking Dune by Frank Herbert for this one!
Two books sharing the same title…I find this category to be very interesting; I never would have dreamed of multiple books sharing titles – that’s something new to think about!
I have chosen to read The Lost World by Michael Crichton as well as The Lost World by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
A book that has inspired a common phrase or idiom…Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll originated the saying “mad as a hatter”, making this age-old tale, which I have never actually read, fit perfectly here.
A book set in an abbey, cloister, monastery, vicarage, or convent…Since I am not fond of reading full synopses of books, I’m not totally sure that my pick exactly fits into this category; however, the priesthood and the Vatican are involved!
The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough is a novel I’ve wanted to read ever since my mom recommended it to me many years ago – really excited about this one!
And there you have it, people – my proposed list for my self-induced relaxing, laid back attempt at completing POPSUGAR’s 2019 Reading Challenge!
I’m really excited about this year’s challenge categories, as well as about the books I’m seriously hoping – and wanting – to read!
Love, Maggie

Playthings were a Christchurch, New Zealand band made up of Jay Clarkson (The Expendables), Janine Saundercock and Nicky Carter. Paul Kean (The Bats) joined as a sound engineer and took over bass/guitar duties after Saundercock left the band.
Leather Jacket Records (also Christchurch) is releasing this 6-song EP that seemingly contains the entire recorded output of the band. This May the band will reform to play some its songs along with songs from Toy Love (Alec Bathgate will be joining the band).
These songs have more of a punk or post-punk sounds (The Expendables, Toy Love) than the pop of The Bats or another Leather Jacket Records release - The Sundae Painters.

You would probably read every script with even the tiniest link to the subject matter, in the hope that you could tell a great car story of the likes of Grand Prix , Le Mans or Mad Max . Then one day you happened to open your garage door and sitting there, right in front of you, was the film you had been searching for. This is what happened to Eric Bana and this time around, the co-star is his very own Ford GT Falcon Coupe- THE BEAST. Eric realized the story was in fact, about him, his first car, a lifetime of ownership and a lifetime of friendship. He set about documenting his own 25 year long love story. A simple tale of one mans ongoing relationship with his very first car. After years of precious restoration, Eric and his 3 closest friends, decided to enter the car into one of the most grueling and dangerous motor races that exists: The Targa Tasmania Rally.
