Moving On - A Jasper Short Story

Summary: It's been months, and months of searching, and he can't find anything. He can't find her. But he can't give up... or must he? Inspired by the @daddecember, @whumpcember, and @hurtcember events! Told in Jasper Colins' POV, regarding his search for his missing best friend.

Word Count: 700

Content Warning: Mentions of a funeral

“Jasper.” My mother’s soft voice echoed from the doorway. I tense, closing my eyes for a second. Before I open them again, focusing back on the footage. Searching for anything—any sign. Of her.

“Jasper, please. You need to rest.” She whispers. Her footsteps pad towards me, soft but sure.

“I can’t—she’s out there somewhere, hurting and confused—someone could have kidnapped her—she could be out there, begging for someone to find her, thinking we gave up on her—”

I stop as my mother’s hands squeeze my shoulders.

“Honey… it’s time to move on.” She whispered, hugging my shoulders. “They’ve set her funeral for Saturday.”

“She’s not dead.” I snap, bursting to my feet, ripping away from her arms, pacing over to the papers and records and wild scribbled notes taped up to the wall. Records, of possible sightings. Pictures of Kat, lingering at the subways of Sector 7. Ducking into stores in Sector 8. Banging against a vending machine in Sector 15, before someone came up to her…

And she was gone.

Kat, with the sparkling grey eyes. Kat, with the bright laugh. Kat, with the pockets full of chocolate, and the mouth full of wit, and the heart of cracking, tarnished gold.

I couldn’t. I couldn’t give up on her. She never would have given up on me, or Mason, or any of us, or any of her family. She would’ve fought to her wit’s end to find us, and do whatever it took to get the leads, the tapes, the information to save us. To save me.

She’d done it before.

“She’s not dead.” I say, voice steady as I stare at the picture of her at the vending machine. Four months ago. “She’s out there, somewhere—”

“You can’t keep living like this.” My mother says, stepping towards me again. “You don’t have to forget her—”

“I can’t—”

I can’t live without her. I wanted to say. I wanted to scream it, at the top of my lungs, for the world to hear. For her to hear, so she’d come back, and be okay.

But I couldn’t.

“We won’t forget her, love.” She whispers, pulling me into a hug again. This time I let her, letting out a shaky sigh. As my shoulders slump, and my body leans into her. Eyes stinging, body aching more than I realized. Hands trembling against her shoulders. Heart thumping against my chest, in a ragged beat only too much coffee could cause. Kat hated—hateswhen I pulled nights like this, hates when I pushed myself…

“I know how much she means to you. To all of us.” She whispers, gently rubbing my back. “But sometimes… you have to keep on living. It’s what she’d want you to do. What she needs you to do.”

“I feel like I’m right there, Mom.” My throat tightens as I close my eyes. All the images burned into my mind by this point. “Like if I just find one more tape—”

“You’ve gotta let it go.” She whispers. “Remember her. Honor her life, keep her in your memories. But you can’t leave your whole life in the past. You have to keep living.”

I swallow hard, letting out a deep exhale.

I couldn’t. I had to.

It’s what I’d want her to do, if anything happened to me.

But still…

“Go get some sleep. We can take some time tomorrow, and visit the Rosewoods. They’ve been wanting to get together.” She whispers, pulling back and leading me towards the door. I hesitate, my gaze flicking to the records and papers again.

Part of me is screaming. Screaming that I have to keep going, for her, have to keep fighting, for her, because no one else will. Because if I leave this room, she will be reduced to another silver necklace and a silver plague and silver tainted memories and stale chocolates.

The other part of me is familiar. I can already smell the stale rose perfume of the ladies in the funeral hall. I can hear the last trumpeting calls. I can taste the tears on my tongue, and the chilled numbness in my heart.

I turn back to follow my mother out the door. The weight of her, and my world, crashing into pieces, heavy on my shoulders. As I close the door on another person I couldn’t save.

So I was thinking about things to do..

And I thought what better way than to get some guidance🤗

Weeelll here's a quick rundown of the characters and their backstories..

Killian Boyd Salem- Killian is a Hybrid that moved to forks 2 weeks before Bella. You get a different friend group dynamic because he's friends with the Popular kids in Forks which concludes Lauren Mallory, Tyler Crowley, and Conner... (Yeah I don't really know who Conner is but what artist and or writer gives up a free background character 😙).

Odette Honeyfields- is a very Rich person of color from American and the only thing she seems to lack in is A filter, Odette is the 'odd' crazy kind younger sibling that everyone seems to think is classy or mature for her age but it's more likely due to the fact that she's been running her father's estate her whole life, but anyhow her father suddenly requests that she goes to London for her first season like her late mother and sister had and is forced to navigate her life in traditional settings.

Sutton/Scara- is the personification of death and life not that they know... This is a kind of spin-off series to the traditional Aphmau Minecraft Diaries-my street series where we follow a group called "the others", that live behind Phoenix drop and aren't exactly pardon from the disasters that happened in Phoenix drop but there problems are subsequently 'Stranger'.

(Ever wish that Minecraft Diaries had a more macabre settings to it or ever wish that the religious trauma that was obviously perturbed on every character in that world was acknowledged more often... well here you go a whole series where the theme is religious spiritual issues instead of the political slice of Life you get with Aphmau's traditional Minecraft diary series)

???- for the Hogwarts one this would follow the slytherins and puts more pizzazz golden tiro esc living on the emerald group but in a Slytherin way still so that they're less background characters and more the secret spy rich kids we knew they were... But with grindelwald adopted great grandchild 👀in the mix to shake up some ideals.

Silver Plaques - A Jasper Colin’s Short Story

Featuring Jasper Colins, told from his POV. Inspired by the @hurtcember and @daddecember events!

Summary: Jasper goes to visit his father’s plague. The last remainder of his grave.

Content Warnings: The death of a soldier, mentions of death.

I stand at the foot of the statue. Gazing down at the shining iron plaque.

The wind shivers through my hair. I trace the letters on the plague with my finger, wincing at the cold bite.

Commander Aaron Colins.

March 5, 3041 - July 29, 3069

May the stars be your guide.

This felt so stupid. A plaque couldn’t do anything, He was gone, and there still wasn’t anything I could do about it.

I sink down to my knees, clutching the bouquet of flowers my mother insisted I bring.

White roses.

The same flowers he would always bring for her.

The same flowers he proposed to her with.

The same flowers that covered his coffin at the funeral. Tucked into everyone’s jacket pockets, along with silver necklaces and silver flag pins…

“I don’t know what I’m doing, Dad.” I whisper. “I don’t know how to do this.”

How had he managed it? All those years, of sending people off into battle. Sending them off just to be killed. Telling every cadet the same thing, over and over again. You’ll survive. For the good of the people. One more battle, and then we can rest.

You never knew if they’d rest at home with their families, or rest in the stars. Forever.

Day after day of flying through the stars. Feeling the ashes of your own comrades swirling by as fast as the last ebbs of your innocense and hope in this… world.

“I don’t know how much more I can do.” I whisper. Voice faint against the wind. For once in my life.

“Mason’s been building ships… every time we call, he has a new one. He wants to be a commander too.” I set the roses down in front of his plaque. Pick up the old ones, tucking them underneath the coat of my uniform. They’d be burned, of course, to make rich soils for more plants. But my mother would want to press at least one. Like she always did. “I can’t bring myself to tell him how hard it is. I feel like he deserves to know.”

“Mother never… deserved to have so many military men. It’d break her if either of us died. It’s why I try so hard, but with every step I take, higher and higher, I feel like I’m only getting closer to my death. And then the same thing will happen… Rowan will get depressed. Lose his passion. He’ll join the military to avenge us, and raise a family he loves, and try to protect our mother, and he won’t be able to do any of it… none of us could…”

“Sometimes I don’t get the point. Why it all had to turn out like this. And then I always go home, and eat Mom’s food, and see them smiling, and then all my reasons come rushing back. And then I break down because—”

I stop, my voice catching in my throat.

The wind whispers through the stones, blowing a dried rose petal from the plaque. The petal soars through the air, fluttering higher and higher.

The wind stops.

The petal plummets, teetering back towards the ground.

“I won’t ever be able to save them.”
