the minor characters lowkey took it this season.... gwayne, erryk & arryk, simon strong, oscar tully, tyland lannister, aegon's little frat friendgroup, maester orwyle, alys rivers, jasper wylde, larys, elinda massey, hugh hammer, rickard thorne, those 2 riverlands guys that had everyone fujoshing out i mean come ON.. let's hear it for the relatively normal people

the scene with jasper and larys shows an interesting failure of aemond's as regent. where aegon's council did not fear him enough, aemond's council fears him too much. aemond is so obsessed with being feared and respected, but he's overcorrected in trying to avoid his brother's failings. jasper withholds significant intel from aemond because he is loathe to confront him about it directly, and this has disastrous results- if aemond knew, he could have locked down the targaryen bastards in the city and prevented vermithor and silverwing's claimings. instead, he is taken completely by surprise by silverwing flying over the city after she has already been claimed. he's made better choices than aegon so far, but he's very much got his own failings still that are coming around to bite him in the ass, and majorly at that.

ignoring helaena but wtf did larys ever do to her. he literally has 2 abuse targets and they’re alicent and…. jasper wylde. for some reason.

this is a niche rant but this character doesnt get nearly enough hate that he deserves because he's not apart of the center cast of the show like otto hightower and criston cole but he is just as abhorrent as the former two......jasper wylde

a man who schemed with otto and went against his own former kings dying wishes because he could not fathom the idea of a woman being queen. a man who is so patriarchal and misogynistic that he talks about women like objects and looks down on them as easily as he breathes air. who wanted to slaughter rhaenyra and her entire family without a second thought. who suggested that alicent get shipped off to another lord for political gain while barely even looking at her. 10/10 cannot wait for this man to lose his head

i don't know what the problem is to admit that aemond fucked up and for the most part it's his fault that he was left alone. he actively tried to destroy his own ally, his brother, which is why helaena has fair fears that he won't spare her either. he knew that aegon was the only available dragonrider that COULD and WANTED to fight, but he burned him anyway ("b-but sunfyre was useless." guys, this dragon, being disfigured and without half a wing, destroyed the other two, & daeron and tessarion, who was probably the youngest, were considered the main threat to rhaenyra at all. dragon is dragon, period). he sends criston (the main commander of the greens, who conquered several castles and forced them to kneel before aegon) and tyland on suicide missions (we know that they will be fine, but how do the characters themselves know this?). he insults larys (when he could have just refused outright) and does not want to listen to small council, which pushes jasper and larys to hide information about the new riders from him.

so yes, on one side, i sympathize with him, if only for the reason that he really feels something, unlike some characters. on the other side, he is now reaping the fruits of his own actions. it's stupid to deny it. he has fallen into the trap of his self-confidence, and further it will be shown more, and it will lead him to the final fall. i think it might be fascinating, bc i have a thing for heroes who become villains.

but my biggest regret in his arc is that they made the green brothers enemies. as if I hoped that they would be the last in whose relationship there would be a place for betrayal (don't worry, boys, you can gobble each other up and I'll still see it as a perverted toxic love lmao).

Now Alicent is obviously still hung up on the “Rhaenyra” of it all, and Aegon hasn’t a clue what he’s doing, but you’re telling me that Otto “Daemon would be second Maegor!” Hightower, or Criston “Rhaenya is a cunning spider” Cole never stopped and thought, “Gee, you know if we were planning to send assassins to Dragonstone, I bet Daemon or Rhaenyra could manage to sneak a couple of guys into the castle they both lived in for years, in a city where a significant portion of the inhabitants are still loyal to them 🤔 Oh on that note!
