Chapter 1: Fortune Favours The Bold
Annual NHG Draft USA, Seattle, Washington Energize Arena June
The day had finally come when each team in the professional hockey guild would acquire young men and a promise to the future of their organizations. Each year in June, the best hockey players selected by scouts went through interviews with potential teams and tried selling themselves as the best there could ever be.
Each selected player knew they had a chance at living their dream of either becoming part of the great NHG or seeing that dream slip away. The anticipation for the day of the draft was heavy with anxiety and excitement.
Every hockey fan and player knew it was a day when dreams could come true, and for ten of the most anticipated players, it was a social media experience like no other. Specifically, for one of them, the first Romanian to be invited to the draft.
Teams of cameramen followed the top ten most-anticipated hockey players to join the NHG—National Hockey Guild, all day. The teams who were recording the event made sure to catch everything on video to immortalize the most crucial moment in those young men's careers in their young lives.
They followed the young prospects from nine in the morning to late afternoon when they started appearing on the red carpet. They were instructed to look suitable for the cameras. They even had them participate on social media to share their thoughts and answer questions from fans.
“Yes, that was me in the Jason Voorhees costume on PhotoSnap," he squinted, internally reading the questions as they came live on his phone. Bombarded, he had to read fast and remember he was live on television and online as he did so.
"Yes, I played hockey my whole life," he chuckled. "Nu am iubită," (I don’t have a girlfriend) he answered in Romanian. He caught another one, but they went by so fast as thousands of them went through. "How long...I can't answer that one; that's personal!" He said, laughing and going for another one. "Yes, I've seen the edits of me on Snap and OneClick." He smiled as he read in his maternal language. “Stunt un român mândru.”(I’m a proud Romanian.)
***
ViewSports Network Live
"This year might be the year we have our first Romanian player in the NHG! I’m hoping I’m pronouncing his name right, Vah-lay-ree-kuh Koh-buh-less-koo. Valerică Cobălescu is an eighteen-year-old from Sibiu, in the province of Transylvania in Romania. The young man is six and a half feet tall and two-hundred-and-twelve pounds. He started playing hockey at age four and moved from Romania to Sweden, where he met left-wing young Slovak; I have a note for his name here, ‘Alec-say’ Kaw-each. Alexej Kováč and Valerică became best friends. He played hockey there for a while and attended a sport-oriented school."
"That's right, John! Valerică played for Romania as their star goaltender for the World Junior Hockey Championship, and for the first time, his country made the podium and won a bronze medal. Coincidence? He received many mentions throughout his young career and a trophy for ‘Most Valuable Player.’ He was often depicted as someone with natural leadership and positivity. During the junior championship, Valerică was put to the test many times by highly anticipated prospects, including his best friend, Alexej, who proved to be an effective last line of defence."
"Matt, I see here that the young Romanian has arrived, and he's walking the red carpet with other young hockey players. No surprise, Alexej's with him. I see the boy with all the media around him on the monitor. Valerică seems slightly surprised by all the attention but comfortable around cameras and phones. This young man has been the talk of Romania in sports for the last three years! I see a few broken hearts in his near future!"
"You said it, John! That Romanian boy will be a star wherever he's picked to play! We can see Alexej Kováč walking past him to another journalist. But let's talk about the best player out there; this young man is ready to be drafted by an NHG team that didn't make the playoffs this year. He's from New York and his name's Carl Tyler. Five foot, ten inches, a hundred and seventy-five pounds. Carl plays center and is what we would call a sniper with a narrow stance. Everyone had eyes on him this year, and he had a dream, John."
"Oh, and what's that, Matt?"
"To play for the Talons!"
"Well, he might have his dream come true, as they are the first team to pick a player this year! They've had their eyes on him, too! Everyone's ready to congratulate them on the best acquisition they could ask for in Carl Tyler! They may put him on the ice next season!”
"We'll see, Matt!"
"Carl! Which team do you think will pick you to join their team?" He asked, quickly turning to his right when the young man came by, walking down the red carpet.
"The Talons are the first to pick, and I'm the best player. I think it's a done deal!" The young man said with confidence and a cocky smile as he winked at the journalist. "I think I proved myself enough to be the most wanted player out there. My dream's to play for the Talons and bring back the cup to Owl City."
"Well, you heard it here, Talonians! Carl Tyler is ready to join the Owl City Talons and be put to the test! This is Matt Caron for ViewSports Network."
**
The Seattle, Washington hockey arena, reserved for the Annual NHG Draft, welcomed nine thousand people. It was divided into two sections, and only the north section was used. A critical portion of those attending were the media from around the globe covering the event. The other section was divided between fans, those selected to be part of the annual draft, and their families. Everyone present was ready to celebrate the well-over-century-old winter sport.
The space reserved for the ice was covered with a ceremonial carpet concealing the entire rectangular space. The space had two sections, one reserved for each NHG team’s president, owners, and selected people to choose their pick and make potential deals with other teams. Meanwhile, the other section belonged to the media, carrying their gear with cameras, microphones, spotlights, and everything needed to immortalize the event.
ViewSports Network was the official streaming service and televised the event live. Aware that many hockey fans held draft parties everywhere, all streaming services had coverage of the well-anticipated event online.
The best tiered-seat section was filled with nervous young men hoping to become part of a professional hockey guild team in the first-round pick. After all, chances to become a true NHG hockey player once that first wave passed dropped drastically in the fourth round, and dreams would crash, sometimes destroying the young players who saw well over a decade of their lives burst into flames.
The people at the head of the Owl City Talons, including Liliane Deslauriers, the owner, walked on stage and waved at the crowd. They were the first to announce their pick to the most nervous hockey players and fans. All cameras were on the first five hockey players that everyone suspected would become a Talons.
The screen focused on Carl Tyler, dressed in a designer charcoal three-piece suit with his curly brown hair brushed back. With a smile, he sat beside his parents and brother, fixing the stage as if ready to stand up.
After all, everyone suspected he would be the Talons' number-one pick and next superstar player. He would be the face of the NHG for years to come! The young man was a New Yorker boy raised in the United States who used to play hockey in the North American way. He wouldn't be a project to build if coming from a European team. He was a logical and ready-to-play player. All eyes were on him. Carl's lips were sealed tight, and his right leg nervously moved.
"The Owl City Talons are proud to choose young Romanian star prospect Valerică Cobălescu!"
All cameras moved from Carl Tyler's seat next to the stairs leading to the ground floor to Valerică, who sat a few rows back in the central section of the tiered seats. His parents had their heads held by their hands. His mother bent over, one arm from her husband holding her. Quickly, they looked at their son standing at six and a half feet tall, brushing his hair back and a deep breath after he mouthed the word ‘Fuck.’ He hugged his parents and turned around to walk down the stairs, passing right by Carl Tyler, who clapped slowly as he went by.
The young man in a regular dark plum suit with a dusty mauve shirt and a silver tie had never looked happier in his young life. Once he stood on stage, he was given a Talons hockey jersey in charcoal, bronze, and silver-white colours. He put the baseball cap on his head, which was given to him by one of the Talons' veteran players. His fairy tale came true, the prince defeated all odds and won! He had a bright smile on his face, and once he turned to face the cameras, he took another deep breath before fixing all lenses staring at him and the Owl City Talons team.
"Well, it looks like the Talons surprised us with their pick and decided to acquire a solid goaltender with Valerică Cobălescu, the eighteen-year-old Romanian goalie, Matt."
"Yes, indeed. All the media present took a second to react when they announced his name. We were all so sure of their pick with Carl Tyler. But we can all agree that choosing Valerică Cobălescu is a smart move on their part. The owner, Liliane Deslauriers, expressed her desire for a massive, strong goaltender to face robust offensive players. The Talons weren't lucky these last five years without a solid star goalie, always rotating the average three they had. But now they've acquired a fortress with Valerică Cobălescu!"
"Indeed, Matt! Carl Tyler will test our fortress whenever his team meets ours! We know Tyler won't be team-less by the end of the draft! This was John Carpentier and Matt Caron for ViewSports Network." — READ MORE...

Honeymoon in Koh Sumai
After an insanely long flight, Kwan slung his bag over his shoulder and grabbed Jason's hand as they headed out of the airport toward the bus that was leading them to the boat that would take them to Koh Sumai. He looked around at everything excitedly. "Oh my God! Everything is so pretty here! I can't believe we're here. I love you so much, baby." He beams at his husband, pulling him a little closer once they settle onto the open window bus.

Beautiful.
Here's an animated TikTok video of each of the four bending arts in ATLA, by Jared Koh (not the one who steals faces):
Earthbending: Hung Gar Kung Fu
Firebending: Northern Shaolin Kung Fu
Airbending: Baguazhang
Waterbending: Tai Chi
Which element would you like to master, if you had the chance?
In PJO, out of the Seven, Hazel would be an earthbender (specifically metalbender), Leo would be a firebender (with a similar view on firebending to Jeong Jeong), Jason would be an airbender who could fly, and Percy would be a waterbender (for obvious reasons).

Chapter Four
Word Count: 3k
Read it here or on AO3
AN: Thank you again so much @0shewrites0 for all your help. I appreciate you so much Rae🫶🏼
Grief group, in Suresh’s honest opinion, was a complete fucking waste of time. Sitting around in a circle, saying your feelings didn’t seem to help anyone. It wasn’t like the feelings went away, but Suresh continued to sit through Grief Group. It was, after all, just simply better than sitting in his empty apartment, with only a bottle of liquor to keep him company.
If only this lady would shut up, though, she’d been going on and on about losing someone named Jason for the better half of the hour.
“And it’s like I feel him everywhere, I even feel him in this room.”
“Bullshit,” And as every head turned to look at him, and awkward silence filled the room, Suresh began to realize he didn’t say that quite in his head as he had hoped.
“Excuse me,” the poor woman said.
“No offense,” Suresh scoffed, waving his hand. “I’m sure you’re a nice woman or whatever, but I’m calling bullshit. You do not feel your husband, son, whoever the fuck Jason is in this room. And if you really, truly do, you need to be committed.”
The lady opened her mouth to speak again, but a snort from the left of Suresh cut her off.
“I’m sorry,” the guy said, covering it up with a cough. “I am so sorry.”
“Anyway,” The lead said, clearing her throat. “Lucas, since you seem like you’d like to add something to what Suresh just said, how about you go next?”
“Ah yes,” the guy-Lucas cleared his throat and continued matter-of-factly and almost bored. “Hi. I’m Lucas Koh, and I lost my mother a year ago.”
Lucas Koh. The name rings a couple of bells. And as Suresh studied him, he was semi-sure he had seen him before. Lucas caught his eye as he was staring and sent a half smirk his way. Now he was definitely sure he had, but where?
“And how are you coping with that Lucas?”
Lucas shrugged.
“Work I suppose. It was alcohol until a fan saw me passed out drunk on the street and my producer decided I should attend this group. It’s not like I’m sad, me and my mother were never very close,”
“A fan?” Suresh asked, his brow furrowing.
“Damn Suresh, I thought you of all people would recognize me,” Lucas said, stretching. “I was on Season 2 of Love Island. I was runner up with Blake.”
Season 2. That’s where he had seen him. Harlow had actually been routing for him and Dahila Jones, until Lucas had returned from Casa Amor with Blake Mitchell and Dahlia with Kassam Maleek. Suresh flinched, trying not to think about his own Casa Amor.
“And how is Blake doing these days?” The lead asked.
“I dunno,” Lucas let out a bitter laugh. “Apparently I work too much for her, she left me a month ago.”
“Not surprised,” Suresh said, before he could stop himself. “No offense or anything man, but Harlow never liked her. Said she was the type to leave when shit would get hard.”
“Well, she was right,” Lucas muttered. “How is Harlow by the way? You two won Season 4 right?”
“Ah, no. Season 5.” Suresh muttered, his heart twisting as he asked about Harlow. “And H-Harlow is actually the reason I’m here.”
“Oh shit, I am so sorry man, truly. From what I could tell from the telly, Harlow was pretty amazing.”
Suresh smiled a small smile, and nodded.
“Yeah, she was. She was pretty special.”
~~
Suresh was unsure of how it happened, but that day after grief group, Lucas Koh had become his best friend. You rarely saw one without the other.
“It was the Jason remark,” Lucas had told him when he asked. “You weren’t the only one wanting her to shut the fuck up. Besides we’re both former islanders, we’ve got to stick together. Especially since the season you were on had the worst people.”
“I’m ashamed,” Suresh had said, quietly. “I’m ashamed of my season of Love Island. They weren’t the only ones who treated Harlow so bad, I did too. And I look back and cringe at the person I was.”
“She forgave you, you know. She wouldn’t have picked you, if she hadn’t. If it makes you feel any better, not one other islander from your season has spoken about her death and the internet is not only dragging them for it, but for what they did in the villa. Again.”
Suresh let out a laugh.
“That does make me feel better, thank you.”
Suresh was proud, ever since Lucas walked into his life, he hadn’t had one single drink.
He was actually a semi-working human, until one day that he and Lucas didn’t have plans.
In the quiet, and loneliness of his apartment, the grief set in again. His thoughts overwhelming him, he broke out his bottle of gin and settled into the couch. It was going to be a long night. Or at least it was until the ring of his phone brought Suresh out of whatever stupor he was in.
“Hello,” He muttered, rubbing his forehead.
“Hey mate,” Lucas laughed. “Turns out I’m free tonight. Do you want to hang or something?”
“Uh, no,” Suresh mumbled, slightly slurring his words. “I’m a littleeee busy at the moment. S-sorry mate.”
There was a moment of silence, before Lucas began speaking again, more serious than Suresh had ever heard him.
“Suresh, are you drunk?”
“No,” Suresh laughed, bitterly. “At least not yet anyway.”
“Okay, well hold on, I’m on my way.”
Suresh went to tell him there was no need to come over but the end signal told him that he was far too late for that.
Lucas had to have run a red light or two by the way he arrived at Suresh’s quickly.
“Hey mate,” Suresh said leaning on the door as he opened it. “You didn’t have to come over. Although I’m glad to know how much you long to be around me.”
“Whatever Suresh,” Lucas muttered, pushing himself into the apartment. “Where the alcohol?”
Suresh, assuming that Lucas wanted a drink too, motioned towards his room.
“Have as much as you need mate, we’re all alcoholics here after all.” He laughed.
“That’s not funny, Suresh.” Lucas snapped as he walked into the room. Honestly his tone should’ve been enough to clue Suresh in on what’s going on, but it wasn’t until he heard the sink running that it clicked for him.
“What are you doing?” Suresh yelled, trying to push his way into the bathroom.
“Mate stay there, this is for your own good.”
“My own good? You don’t know shit about my own good.” The door finally gave way, only for Suresh to realize Lucas had already dumped it all out.
“No,” He whispered, close to tears, pushing at Lucas’s chest weakly. “No, what have you done? What have you done?!”
“What should’ve been done already,” Lucas stood there calmly taking the hits. “I’ve been here before Suresh, okay? I’ve been here before. She’s not at the bottom of these bottles, you’re not going to find her, okay? And I am so so sorry.”
Suresh practically collapses in Lucas’s arms, and Lucas gently lowers him to the ground, placing his head on his lap, lightly shushing him as he cries.
Suresh wasn’t sure how long he laid there, how long it took him to run out of tears, but even when it seemed to be over, he didn’t want to move. Lucas seemed in no hurry ti move either, letting Suresh take his time, and he gently rubbed his side.
“I can’t sleep without it,” Suresh mumbled breaking the silence.
“What?” Lucas asked, slightly blinking, confused.
“I can’t sleep without it, I can’t sleep sober. I-I keep waiting for her to come back. I can’t sleep until she’s safe inside our apartment. It’s too empty here without her.”
“Do you want me to stay with you a few days?” Lucas muttered. “Because I will, you don’t have to go through this alone.”
“Why-why do you care?” Suresh hiccuped. “You’ve only known me a short while. Marisol was here last month and knew I was drinking and didn’t stop it.”
Lucas’s jaw hardened and he took a deep breath.
“A real fucking friend would’ve taken it away.” He said, hints of anger in his voice. “And like I said, I’ve been here before. It’s nothing but a whole lot of pain. So if it’s because it’s simply too empty here, I will stay here. I meant it when you don’t have to stay alone.”
As Suresh glanced up at Lucas, he allowed himself to smile the tiniest of a smiles. Maybe there was a light at this dark tunnel.

Federal Court Orders Former Head of International Binary Options Scheme to Pay More than $561,000 in Restitution
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission today announced the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio entered a consent order on April 27 for a permanent injunction, restitution, and equitable relief against Jared J. Davis, a former resident of Ohio. Davis, at times, conducted business as Erie Marketing, LLC.
The consent order resolves a CFTC action filed on September 17, 2019. [See CFTC Press Release No. 8018-19]. The complaint alleged, among other things, that Davis defrauded customers through a global binary options business he created and operated.
The order requires Davis to pay $561,971 in restitution to victims of the fraudulent scheme. The order also permanently prohibits Davis from engaging in further violations of the Commodity Exchange Act and CFTC regulations, as charged, and imposes permanent registration and trading bans.
Case Background
The order finds that, from approximately July 2012 through June 2016, Davis fraudulently solicited and accepted approximately $10 million from customers in the U. S. and elsewhere to trade off-exchange binary options on commodities, forex, individual stocks and stock indices. According to the order, Davis executed his scheme through internet marketing campaigns, various websites, and call centers using tradenames such as Option Mint, Option King, and Option Queen. The order also finds Davis defrauded customers by making misrepresentations and omissions of material facts, including failing to disclose that he effectively took the opposing position on each trade and failing to disclose that he frequently had the trading platforms manipulate the options trading software settings to increase the odds of customer losses.
The CFTC cautions that orders requiring repayment of funds to victims may not result in the recovery of any money lost because the wrongdoers may not have sufficient funds or assets. The CFTC will continue to fight vigorously for the protection of customers and to ensure the wrongdoers are held accountable.
Related Criminal Matter and SEC Actions
In a separate action, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio charged Davis with three counts of tax evasion, and his company, Erie Marketing, LLC, with 11 counts of wire fraud. The superseding information was based on much of the same conduct alleged in the CFTC’s complaint. United States v. Davis, No. 3:18-cr-225-JZ (N.D. Ohio). Davis pleaded guilty to 11 counts of wire fraud on behalf of Erie Marketing, LLC and to three counts of tax evasion individually. On January 27, he was sentenced to 30 months of incarceration followed by three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a $300,000 fine, $1,039,208 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and to be jointly and severally liable for the debts of Erie Marketing, LLC, including $656,493.20 in restitution to victims and a $4.4 million fine.
In addition to the criminal action, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) charged Davis in a related enforcement action and entered into a partial settlement against him on February 22, 2019, providing that the court will determine disgorgement and civil penalties at a later date. The SEC’s action remains pending. SEC v. Davis, No. 3:18-cv-2829-JZ (N.D. Ohio).
The CFTC appreciates the assistance of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio, the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Cleveland Field Office, the IRS Criminal Investigation, and the SEC.
The Division of Enforcement staff members responsible for this case are Christine Ryall, Danielle Karst, Jason Gizzarelli, Kyong G. Koh, Paul G. Hayeck, as well as former staff member Peter Haas.
