Heirloom Stamp Show – Danville, IN Nanci and I went to the Heirloom Stamp Show again this year. It was great to connect with friends and small business owners. 🙂

Nanci and I enjoy visiting and supporting independently owned craft stores wherever we travel. During a recent trip, we discovered Vintage In KC that specialized in unique products, classes and actively engaging the creative community.

Rene’ Koehn followed her dream and opened her own shop in Shawnee, KS, a suburb of the greater Kansas City area. When you walk into the store, it is like a dream land all unto itself packed full of interesting products and helpful folks happy to help with whatever it is you may be interested in creating.

Nanci and I were blessed to have the opportunity to attend the October 2018 Copic Boot Camp in Arizona with Jennifer Dove and her talented team.

We learned so much and had the opportunity to meet some wonderful people and have creative fun. Creating 12-13 hours each day helped us focus and learn while having a blast! 🙂

We wanted to share some photos of our experience to hopefully inspire you to create and have fun!

Fun with Riley the Moose!

While in a class with our friend Tanya (Doner-Kostynuk) of Riley & Company, Prickly Pair and partner with Karen Burniston Products when I had a fun idea.

I shared with Tanya that it would be funny to use her Riley and Company stamps with the different outfits for Riley the Moose and do a tribute to the Village People and their YMCA song…so I did!

Motorcycle and Vintage Gas Station

Idea: The idea for this piece came from several sources, but I chose to use my own motorcycle and 1930’s family photo of the gas station owned by Nanci’s grandfather in Syracuse, Indiana.

Technique: I created the motorcycle with layers of acetate to give it depth and bold colors in contrast against the old photo. The window frame pulled it all together into a unique home decor conversation piece.

I upcycled the wine gift box.

I removed all the hardware and sanded off the finish.

I covered the entire box with the Craftbox Steampunk City paper collection. I then added the hardware back on.

I wanted a 3D look for certain items of interest I chose on the papers.

I cut out duplicate images and curved them using a ball stylus.

I popped up the images and curved them to give it depth.

The layering creates a fun dimensional twist to the box

I layered the steam pipes as well.

I curved the pipes with the ball stylus.

I layered them with foam tape.

I cut out additional elements to pop-up certain elements

I popped out balloons as well and applied Mod Podge to all elements to give strength to the 3D pieces.

I used Prima Art Alchemy Antique Brilliance Wax, White Gold4016) • Prima Art Alchemy Antique Brilliance Wax, Aged Brass (#963965)

I added the Paper Studio’s small metal handle to hang tags onto.

I coated the entire piece in Mod Podge to seal everything.

Inside I added a watch face and gear-heart..

Simon Says Create 2019

Road Trip: Nanci and I spontaneously took a trip to attend the Simon Says Stamp held a two-day CREATE Event on March 15th and March 16th, 2019 in Columbus, Ohio at the beautiful Nationwide Hotel and Conference Center.

Create It, Take It: Besides the amazing classes (sold out), there were 25 vendors representing Create It, Take It and store experience.

Business Owners and Designers: Inside a large space, we were able to “create and take” projects featuring products from many of our favorite vendors. and newer ones, many of whom were there in-person at the event! In addition, we had a chance to meet some of our industry’s top designers! 

Giant Store/On-site Delivery: Thousands of items were on hand to purchase. And if Simon Says Stamps didn’t have it on hand, their team assisted folks with placing an order and have it delivered to them, in person! Kind of like pizza, but better!

I purchased a wood cut letter and adhered card stock to it and covered it with Mod Podge. I used a tooth brush paint speckles to create additional various colors stars on the background. I cut out the letters on a K-n-K Click and Cut die cutter and painted them for effect.  I added themed embellishments purchased and printed. Easy and fun!
