1. Pad Kaprao

Pad Kaprao is one of the most known Thai stir-fry dishes, and became famous for its appetizing appearance and flavor. This dish is flavored with soy sauce/oyster sauce, sugar, and fish sauce.

The origins of this iconic Thai dish are believed to date back 334 years ago, based on references from the La Loubère archives (in the year 2230 B.E.), which mentioned that Thai people adopted holy basil from Brahmanism, where it was used in worship rituals.

The version of Pad Kaprao that we are familiar with nowadays is speculated to have emerged during the reign of King Rama VII, adapted from Chinese cuisine brought by Chinese immigrants who sold it in local diners. Others claim that the Chinese cooks modified the Thai dish "beef stir-fried with tree basil," reducing its spiciness to create what is now known as Pad Kaprao.

🍴 How to enjoy - Serve with Jasmine rice, topped with a fried egg. Firstly, add a few drops of fish sauce with chili. Then, let's mix the yolk with the rice.

2. Khao Soi (Thai Curry Noodles)

Khao soi, a signature dish of Northern Thailand, features flat egg noodles in a creamy coconut curry broth. Typically, crispy fried egg noodles are added on top for a crunchy texture, while the dish is served with condiments such as shallots, chilies, pickled mustard greens and lime.

"Khao Soi" derives its name from the ancient method of making noodles by hand, before the advent of machinery for noodle production. To make the noodles used in Khao Soi, wheat flour, eggs, salt, and water are mixed together and kneaded until well combined. The dough is then pressed and rolled out into sheets, which are subsequently sliced with a knife into noodles. This manual slicing of the dough sheets is why the dish is called "Khao Soi," which translates to "sliced rice" in English.

🍴 How to enjoy - Before eating, add lime juice and chili paste to adjust the sourness or spiciness of the broth. Then, mix the condiments well with the curry and enjoy the Noodles.

3. Panaeng Curry

Panaeng curry is a rich and mildly spicy broth with a harmonious blend of coconut milk and panaeng curry paste. This curry is typically enjoyed with various types of meat such as pork, chicken, beef and duck, and is garnished with shredded kaffir lime leaves and red chili peppers.

The original recipe for Panaeng curry was made using a whole chicken, prepared by rubbing the legs together before placing it in the curry pot, mentioned in Siam Rat Newspaper (2515 B.E.) written by M.R. Kukrit Pramoj. This method of preparing the chicken, referred to as "legs rubbing," is believed to be the origin of the name "Panaeng," which means 'cross-legged sitting' in meditation.

The traditional Thai recipe for Panaeng curry is believed to have started during the reign of King Rama V, considered a royal court dish, and has been documented by M.L. Nueang Nilrat.

4. Tom Kha Gai

Tom Kha Gai is full of savory and satisfying taste from Central Thailand. The broth is typically cloudy white in color and is seasoned with various herbs, similar to those used in Tom Yum soup.

‘Tom’ means to boil, ‘Kha’ means galangal, and ‘Gai’ means chicken. So, chicken is the original protein used in Tom Kha Gai, but you can replace it with other options such as meat or white fish. Alternatively, you can make it vegan by using only mushrooms.

A necessary and relevant addition to the Black LGBTQ literary canon, which oftentimes over looks Black lesbian Writing, Lez Talk is a collection of short stories that embraces the fullness of Black lesbian experiences. The contributors operate under the assumption that "lesbian" is not a dirty word, and have written stories that amplify the diversity of Black lesbian lives. At once provocative, emotional, adventurous, and celebratory, Lez Talk crosses a range of fictional genres, including romance, speculative, and humor. The writers explore new subjects and aspects of their experiences, and affirm their gifts as writers and lesbian women.

Black Love Matters

An incisive, intersectional essay anthology that celebrates and examines romance and romantic media through the lens of Black readers, writers, and cultural commentators, edited by Book Riot columnist and librarian Jessica Pryde. Romantic love has been one of the most essential elements of storytelling for centuries. But for Black people in the United States and across the diaspora, it hasn't often been easy to find Black romance joyfully showcased in entertainment media. In this collection, revered authors and sparkling newcomers, librarians and academicians, and avid readers and reviewers consider the mirrors and windows into Black love as it is depicted in the novels, television shows, and films that have shaped their own stories. Whether personal reflection or cultural commentary, these essays delve into Black love now and in the past, including topics from the history of Black romance to social justice and the Black community to the meaning of desire and desirability. Exploring the multifaceted ways love is seen--and the ways it isn't--this diverse array of Black voices collectively shines a light on the power of crafting happy endings for Black lovers. The Black Imagination

This critical collection covers a broad spectrum of works, both literary and cinematic, and issues from writers, directors, and artists who claim the science fiction, speculative fiction, and Afro-futurist genres. The anthology extends the discursive boundaries of science fiction by examining iconic writers like Octavia Butler, Walter Mosley, and Nalo Hopkinson through the lens of ecofeminist veganism, post-9/11 racial geopolitics, and the effect of the computer database on human voice and agency. Contributors expand what the field characterizes as speculative fiction by examining for the first time the vampire tropes present in Audre Lorde’s poetry, and by tracing her influence on the horror fiction of Jewelle Gomez. The collection moves beyond exploration of literary fiction to study the Afro-futurist representations of Blacks in comic books, in the Star Trek franchise, in African films, and in blockbuster films like Independence Day, I Robot, and I Am Legend.

The lived realities of young queer people in African contexts are not well documented. On the one hand, homophobic political discourse tends to portray queer people as 'deviant' and 'unAfrican', and on the other, public health research and advocacy often portrays them as victims of violence and HIV. Of course, young queer lives are far more diverse, rich and complex. For this reason, the Qintu Collab was formed to allow young queer people from a few African countries to come together, share experiences and create context-specific, queer-positive media that documents relatable stories about and for queer African youth. We see this as a necessary step in developing a complex archive of queer African life, whilst also personalising queer experiences and challenging prejudicial stereotypes. The Collab is made up of eighteen queer youth from Botswana, Kenya and Zimbabwe, two academics, three artists and a journalist. We first worked in small groups in each country through a range of creative participatory methods that focused on personal reflection and story-telling. Young people created personal timelines, and made visual maps of their bodies, relationships, and spaces. We then had group discussions about themes that emerged to help decide what to include in the comic works. At the end of 2018, we all came together in Nairobi, Kenya, for a week to collaborate on this comic book, and a set of podcasts on similar topics. We worked through various ways of telling stories, and developed significant themes, including family, religion and spirituality, social and online queer spaces, sex, and romantic relationships. Each young person created a script and laid out the scenes for a comic that told a short story from their lives. They then worked one-on-one with an artist to finesse those ideas into a workable comic, and the artists thereafter developed each story through multiple rounds of feedback from the story's creator and the rest of the group

icons are rly fun honestly! i think they have the ability to add a lot of personality to a scene, and sometimes can assist in establishing context or helping to emphasize tone. THAT all said, i don’t find them necessary at all—i’m primarily here to read threads, so icons or no icons, the writing is where my focus remains and my interests lie!! i don’t bypass blogs just bc they go icon-less, in fact its oftentimes the opposite? i love seeing how ppl can use their words alone to paint the entire picture. whichever way someone chooses to express their muse is valid tbh, do what feels comfortable!

throw a stone and hit any of my muses, and it's apparent how over-the-top and carried away i get from canon lmao... pkmn is the perf franchise for it too; not only are the settings vast and the thematic concepts plentiful, but there is often a lot of negative space to fill on these muses’ canvases (this seems esp true for most canon characters in the earlier games). i aim for my interpretations to feel realistic (to some degree) so i do keep in mind the little canon i am given... but that’s still more for reference, and not something i strictly abide by. its thrilling how ppl have fun w their muses’ exploits and interpersonal relationships, i’m so here for how muns deviate from canon in order to conceptualize something entirely new.

jasmine, jasmine... i will never forget witnessing her for the first time ;; it was after school, while watching my friend nick play gold before a crowd of like 12 of us (he was that kid that always had new games right when they came out lol his family had it made like that). he was just reaching the jasmine gym battle by the time i walked up. as you can imagine, being an elementary schooler i was not using the internet as it was back then much at all, so leaks etc were not accessible to me (what few leaks existed at the time, that is); same was true for p much everyone else in my grade, so none of us had any idea about the slayage we were in for. we all saw the two magnemite and kinda brushed them off like “lmao that’s cute”, the disappointment was kinda real ngl 💀 but that disappointment didn’t last long whatsoever, bc the second she sent steelix out... the collective gasps in that lunchroom, lemme tell you! it was quite possibly the greatest thing any of us had ever seen in our lives up to that point, so serious when i say lives were changed that day ;;

so then when i finally received the game a couple months later, i was so excited to get to her gym and battle her for myself. i fell more in love going thru the amphy plotline, and the rest was history as they’d say. she was (and still is) a v overlooked character, but writing her is tons of fun c: (as is seeing her get some exposure from pokemas!) srry this was long-winded as HELL-
