先日、梅雨の合間にツタを刈りまして。

染めてみることにいたしました。

I' d gotten japanese ivies during the rest of the rainy season, and tried to dye!

葉っぱだけをアルカリ抽出したつもりが…緑ではない、と。ならば蔓も行けば良かったですかね。葉っぱだけでも赤っぽい色が染まりそうです。

なお、炊いているとベリーのような甘い匂いが漂います・・・甘葛！そうです、大昔このものは甘味料の材料！

I did alkaline extraction only with leaves, but it wasn't green...I might get something red colour. And it smelled sweet like a kind of berries...oh, japanese ivies used to be used to make the sweet syrup in the ancient age ...!

This is a sample silk yarn. Although it is just smoky, but it's quite lovely orange

And, it is the macrame yarns! It also get soft orange colour, but how it will change after drying...it's curious. And, this natural dyed macrame yarn will be treated my shop in a few days!

Beautiful pattern placement for this kimono depicting turning leaves ivy, and tiny birds in flight (op describe them as uguisu/Japanese bush warblers).

The light background "stripes" are actually bamboo stalks on which the ivy crawls. This is so pretty!!!!

Isabella Valentine may not have been the lady of wealth she had been when she was younger, her father having squandered most of the family's assets on increasingly bizarre alchemical studies, but she was most certainly not penniless. Budgeting things out, she had much planned for her lover, Setsuka, a woman born of a Japanese father by a Portuguese mother, to experience when her venture to London was complete. Setsuka had never seen the British Isles, despite having occasionally visited the West; Ivy had told her much about them when she was making a brief visit to Japan herself, having scoured Nagasaki for particularly rare artifacts vital to her own research.

With one arm in her blue velvet jacket slung over Setsuka's shoulders as they both rode through town in a roofed carriage, Ivy was thankful for the occasional obstacle that stood in her way on the trip to Nagasaki. Had it not been for such delays, she might not have had the lucky timing to ever met this beautiful lady.

Looking down—by God, even being just half a head taller than Setsuka made her seem so much smaller when nestled into Ivy's arm—Ivy's inhumanly blue eyes met Setsuka's, hers the color of ice as opposed to the noonday sky, and Setsuka gave a small, tired smile. The day had been a long one, after all, and it seemed that Setsuka was content to rest against Ivy as opposed to in a bed. "Keep this up," Ivy remarked, "and I might just have to carry you inside when we get back home."

"Mmm, sore wa īdesu ne, itoshī hito; that would be nice, my love," Setsuka muttered, translating to English to compensate for Ivy's reasonably stunted understanding of Japanese. "You happen to be more than strong enough, and how could I say no to you holding me close?"

The road conditions in London had been steadily improving over the past few decades, and it really showed; even as recently as Ivy's teenage years, the road to the Valentine estate had been more well-worn earth than anything resembling pavement, but now there were delightfully flat cobblestones beneath the carriage wheels, minimizing the rocking. Ivy rolled her eyes, but smiled genially in return. "As though we won't be closer for longer when the night is done."

Setsuka giggled lightly. "That would be even nicer, I think," she said, closing her eyes. "But we still have a few minutes, minutes I would like to spend them as comfortably as possible. And under your arm is the most comfortable place in the world right now."

By the end of ShB the Scions had learned that they better keep their noses out of Yukinko's business -- he doesn't ever mention anything he does outside of whatever bs he gets into with them on company time -- or he will saddle them with (age appropriate) knowledge they never want to know.

Alisaie annoyed him very deeply once, so he told her, "You have a habit of pursing your lips and crossing your arms when you are embarrassed" and she said I am not! *immediately does it* *is now self-conscious of this habit*

And the one other time she annoyed Yukinko by trying to pry into some personal business, he said, "Do not try me, girl. Or I will point out something you do not know about yourself that will make you self-conscious. Again."

"You are a bloody bully," Alisaie said.

"Nonsense. What I am is a believer in efficient deterrents," Yukinko replied, with gravitas.

She stopped asking after that.

The same deterrent method worked with Alphinaud, but he was so traumatized by the one and only time Yukinko sicced it on him in ARR that he hadn't tried his luck ever since.

Outside the 1 comment Yukinko made about the boy's shield-healing abilities, at least he helped him out a lot with reading boss tells and so on. So Alphinaud had largely forgotten that.

And Yukinko in turn had learned and accepted that the Scions were reliable partners in a pinch, but were far below the skill level of the adventurers he liked to seek help from.
