MISEINEN: MIJUKUNA ORETACHI WA BUKIYO NI SHINKOCHU (2024, JAPAN)
Episode 5
Minase Jin (MOTOJIMA JUNSEI) and Hirukawa Haruki (KAMIMURA KENSHIN) have become closer. So much so they are admitting their homosexuality especially after seeing a movie about the very subject.
Haruki accepts that fact that Jin has become his comfort in a world where he is living through physical torture from his hateful, drunken abusive father.
Are they officially falling in love? No matter how clandestine it is?
Next Week:
Haruki and Jin are ready to elevate their physical connection.
Haruki is ready to give a beating to his dad instead of taking one.

Favorite Things: Our Youth part 1
Instantly wanted to re-watch this series, but not emotionally ready for that. Pretty sure this is one of those stories that will cause me more pain the second time around. Even putting this post together caused a lot of feels. We fell in love with the story of these two broken and abandoned boys that make each other their home.
Tumblr media
Apparently this will be part 1 of 2 because we had more than 10 posts we wanted to share and refuse to cut any more of them than we already had! So enjoy some of our favorite posts (spoilers ahead):
Starting with the end. It gave us so much sweet comfort, but there was also a layer of pain just under the surface. For us, it was perfect. It felt real and deep and complicated and matched the tone of the entire show. We love how Minase and Hirukawa have found what they needed in each other and it's the start of their healing.
Though the choice to stay in the closet, and the weight and emotional toll of that decision, may not have been the ideal ending people wanted, we think it was beautifully honest. We agree with @small-dark-and-delicious that the way this unfolded in the story fit the characters. We think the show did an amazing job of portraying the complexity of the situation and we are grateful for it's inclusion and the emotions and conversations occurring because of it.
The testing of the waters in their friend group felt like Hirukawa trying to open the door, no matter how small. We agree with @aceoflights that Hirukawa intentionally did it in a way that would protect Minase.
@putterphubase put together a beautiful post of 😍 GIFS containing some of the sweetest moments from episode 10
"Shit. That was some serious foreshadowing." We knew more pain was coming, so it only made this scene hit even harder. We were definitely with @pigglepiephi on this one.
This show sucked us in hard and fast. But this scene, WTH?!? We watched that SHIT BEFORE BED!!!! That was a mistake of epic proportions. It was way too late to feel these emotions, forget trying to confront the tailspin that was caused by this seriously toxic red flag desperate act of self endangerment for the sake of connection being romantic as fuck. How do you sleep after that?!? answer is you don't, you watch an episode of Fourever You Thanks for the screenshots of this scene @respectthepetty
And 😍 GIFS by @wanderlust-in-my-soul of just after the admission. Kill me again.
Continued in part 2:

Something I love about Love Is Better the Second Time Around is that both of their reasons for feelings betrayed by each other are understandable.
Miyata thought Iwanaga wasn't taking him seriously because he saw him joking around with his friends. So obviously he doesn't trust Iwanaga. Miyata thought Iwanaga saw him as just some silly joke.
Iwanaga on the other hand was very serious, but wasn't able to communicate that. Even if eloping was kind of a joke, a part of him was serious about it because it involved Miyata. He saw it as his chance to show how serious he was and looked forward to being alone together. When Miyata didn't come he felt betrayed. He must've thought "oh, I guess I'm not that special".
Miyata seems to have moved away soon after that so they must've spend over a decade without any communication/resolve. For Iwanaga, he ended up wanting Miyata and being even more direct. For Miyata, his distrust only got worse.
I love them

Love.
Happy of the End showed a lots of real life offences that are never or very rarely talked about in media, the topics that are often often swooped under the rug.
And still have us a happy ending. That's something else totally.
When time travel shows and chaebol shows can easily forget the money troubles of people falling in love, and that just being a self soothing entertainment, this show dove deep into every possible trauma that a money and protection less kid or man might face in the world and still showed how some unnamable attraction turning into dependency can turn into love and inturn make those in love better human.
The story telling, the cityscapes and landscapes, their clothings, the tender caretakings, the essentiality of friendships forgetting the harsh pasts and the necessity of letting go and coming back, both Chihiro and Haoren wanting to cook better for each other, the waiting and loving, the dreams remembered and the promises kept.
Haoren not wanting to take the boats on ride when the park is closed because it's illegal, when his whole life, almost everything that has kept him alive is illegal showed how deep down he is still a kind and regular citizen afraid of law. And after getting saved, him surrendering to the police to pay for his crimes still shows the same. I read the meta about un-registered population in Japan and probably Haoren/Hayato was one such kid and that makes me more sad.
How the new co-worker calls him Haoren because he no more needs the Keito name or anything else. And him crying on seeing Chihiro's photo, when he infact didn't cry on seeing that old lady/assumed mom dead. Haoren has come a long way.
How its Chihiro now, pursuing his dream, doing whatever he wanted and could do, is asking places from Matsuki and waiting for Haoren, is a whole circle but a non toxic one.
Final thoughts :
Love, perhaps, is a healing and hope giving feeling.
Friendships, in life, are important too.

Episode 6
Post 4 of 4
Minase Jin (MOTOJIMA JUNSEI) and Hirukawa Haruki (KAMIMURA KENSHIN) end their stay and travel home from Haruki's mother.
A trip where they basically confirmed undoubtedly their feelings for one another.
But why does this separation seem...

Favorite Things: Our Youth part 2
Yes, even after narrowing it down, we had too many posts we wanted to share. So Our Youth gets two Favorite Things posts 😁
👇 this scene healed me
Tumblr media
Favorite Things: Our Youth part 1
Spoilers Ahead:
❤️ This post by @respectthepetty beautifully lays out one of the things we loved so much about this character and story. Tugs so hard at those heart strings!!!
Yes, the blue popsicle scene was flirty and seriously hot, but like the rest of the show, it was so much deeper than what we can see at the surface. Loved this post by @lurkingshan
@mygwenchan said it better than we could. Love this analysis of episode 8 and our broken boys so much. ❤️
The spiraling second sentence in this post felt like @heretherebedork had copy and pasted my tangled thoughts and emotions and put them into words. I felt that.
And then @jemmo gave me a new wound I didn't even have before, but I definitely feel and will make re-watching this show even more painful.
And since you stuck around for all the angsty heavier posts we shared because we were apparently here for the pain, we will reward you with something fun. If you missed this like we did, @omgtheregoesthefuckidontgive was kind enough to capture and share for all to enjoy. Warning, not suitable for work.
Also, like much of the show, it felt like there was a layer of anguish in this scene. Their need for each other felt so desperate. This scene and entire show was so well done!

Shinomiya is so odd to me.
Cause on one hand she does seem attracted to him, but on the other she isn't and says when he's "manly" it's a turn off. Now is this a weird way to say ace? Idk. Maybe you could argue that. However the way it's phrased it's like... she could have sex with someone, but she doesn't like the way he approaches her???? But she doesn't seem to care enough to approach him either???? Idk they're in this weird stalemate of they're going through with this marriage (eventually... probably), but they're not communicating at all.
At least Fujisawa did make his intentions known. Even if he avoids the topic of physical touch and attraction entirely. Although he is very careful to always make sure Sei is happy. Like he's overcompensating for the fact that he can't be Sei's boyfriend. So he's going against his own likes/dislikes and only doing things Sei likes. With limits bc obviously his hard limit is kissing/sex.
Anyway. I need communication and I need more info. However I do really like the tone of the show. I like the yearning. I am fan of yearning
