Jangmi speed walked out of the room, trying her very best to ignore her hyung’s voices.
“You know better than to leave the main room.”
“Are you really this irresponsible?”
“You could have got lost.”
“Why were you even here?”
“I swear if it was to hang out with that boy who speaks terrible Kore-”
“Rydel Kim.” Seungcheol bellowed, right as she touched the handle of the door which would take them to the main waiting room.
She turned around at the mention of her real name, sucking in a sharp breath. “What.”
“Why did you go backstage?” Seungcheol boomed, his jaw seemingly tense,
Jangmi closed her eyes firmly for a split second, trying to keep her tears at bay. “I told you. I went to see a friend.”
“Stop with that bullshit.” Jeonghan joined. “You don’t even know the guy- he asked for your number.”
She sighed in annoyance. “If you would let me speak, you would know that I went to see Kevin. Not Felix. Kevin.”
“That’s his name.” Joshua muttered under his breath.
When no one spoke, she threw her hands in the air out of frustration. “Are we done here? Can I go?”
“Absolutely not.” Jeonghan declared. “Why were you with Felix and not Kevin then?”
“Because Dino needed to go pee so I waited for him. And then Felix walked by, and I thought it’d be nice to introduce myself.”
“Introduce yourself?” Seungcheol scoffed. “If you’re going to lie, at least lie well.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Jangmi asked accusatorily, glaring at him.
“He means how you never go and make friends- you always need us to make them for you.” Jeonghan interjected, replying on their leaders behalf.
“I make friends myself”
“Name one.”
“Mark, Haechan, Kevin, Som-”
“She doesn’t count. Nayoung introduced her.”
“I still named a friend!” Jangmi screeched. She could feel her eyes becoming cloudy.
“Should we chat about this later?” Joshua pointed at the sign saying, ‘keep quiet.’
“Fine.”
“Good.”
“Hyungs!” They all turn to the left, to see Dino walking up to them with the members of Stray Kids.
“Annyeonghaseyo Sunbaemin.”
“Annyeonghaseyo.” Her hyungs bowed back politely, the lack of smiles clearly evident on their face.
“I’m looking forward to your performance today.” Chan grinned, not noticing the gloomy atmosphere.
“Thank you.” Seungcheol replied coldly. “Nice meeting you.”
And with that he walked away, Jeonghan and Joshua right behind him.
Jangmi turned to face Stray Kids. “I’m sorry about them. They’re a bit stressed about our performance.”
“They’re not usually like this.” Dino added.
Seungmin smiled. “That’s alright. We better head of anyway.”
“See you around.” Jangmi chirped, before grabbing Dino’s arm and following 95’ line back into the main room.
“That was weird.” Dino noted.
She grimaced. “I’ll tell you after.”
The rest of the award show went quite smoothly. Her hyungs acted civil, which meant she did as well. No need to escalate the matter further.
In fact, she didn’t even know why they were mad. Because she spoke to Felix? Maybe because she went out of the room. But then again so did Dino?
All she knew was that she wouldn’t be able to fall asleep until the matter was solved. Meaning that was why she found herself on the rooftop of their apartment at 2am with her hyungs.
“Are you going to explain why y’all acted so rudely today.” Jangmi asked, sinking her fingers deep into her jacket pockets.
“I don’t think we acted rudely.”
“You’re joking.” She scoffed. “You acted like the biggest dicks in front of Felix.”
“I admit we didn’t act nicely.” Josh agreed.
“But you did also act irresponsibly.” Seungcheol added.
She nodded. “I‘m sorry. I should have known better after doing this many awards shows”
“You live and you learn.” Jeonghan said, rubbing his hands together for warmth.
“I’ll ask you ne-” She stopped. “Why isn’t Chan here then?”
“Why would he be here?” Seungcheol asked.
Jangmi furrowed her eyebrows. “Because he also snuck out of the main room.”
“What does Chan sneaking out of the main room have to do with you talking to boys?”
Jangmi felt the anger starting to simmer within her. “Wait, you’re not talking about me sneaking out right?” She clarified.
“That.”
“As well as hanging out with the boy.” Jeonghan continued.
Joshua corrected under his breath. “Felix.” Seungcheol glared at him.
“I’m suddenly not allowed to hang out with boys now?” Jangmi asked accusingly.
“Not boys who are clearly trying to get in your pants.” Seungcheol replied, raising his voice.
Jangmi crossed her arms angrily. “That was totally uncalled for.”
“No. What was uncalled for was him flirting with you, and you not stopping it.”
“HE WAS NOT FLIRTING WITH ME.” Jangmi told Jeonghan. “And if he was, I would shut it down.”
“He shouldn’t even flirt with you in the first place.” Jeonghan exclaimed. “You’re his fucking sunbae.”
She held a hand in front of her. “I’m not even going to respond to that cos you’re off your damn mind. A girl and guy can have a civil conversation.”
“Not when he’s staring at you like that.”
“Like what?” She stoped talking- trying not to cry. But it’s too late, she blinked thrice but couldn’t stop the tears that were starting to roll down.
“He’s looking like you’re the most important thing in the world.”
“Why can’t he, Seungcheol?” Jangmi questioned, furiously trying to remove any trace of tears.
“Because-”
“Because what?” she asked firmly. Stepping closer to her hyungs. “And what if he was. Why am I getting punished for his actions?”
“You should have known and stopped it.”
“Instead of standing so close to each other.”
“Why is everything my fault?” Jangmi yelled. Like really yelled. And she rarely, if not ever, yells in anger. Frustration? Yes. But never anger.
Yet here she was, yelling.
“Nothing’s your fault. But you need to learn to read the room.”  Joshua acquiesced.
Jangmi turned to glare at him. “I did read the mother fucking room. And let me tell you what it was completely fine.” She swore in English.
“You guys.” She pointed at her oldest hyungs. She was crying again, the anger and bitterness in her voice a mere second ago was replaced by tears of frustration. “You guys don’t trust me.”
“No. Jangmi. We do trust you. You know we trust you.” Joshua’s voice softened.
“Well, doesn’t seem like it.” She pressed. “You complain I don’t have friends, and then don’t trust me when I decide to make friends.”
“We just want you to make the right friends.” Seungcheol clarified.
Jangmi scoffed. “And you know what’s best for me? I can make my own goddamn decision.”
“You can.” Jeonghan stepped closer. “But as your hyungs, we’re always going to look out for you. Whether you like it or not.”
“But why can’t I be friends with Felix.” Jangmi questioned. “What makes him different from Mark or Sanha or Somi.”
“He’s a boy.” Josh stated obviously.
“Hate to break it to you mate. Mark’s a boy too.”
“But we know his groupmates.”
“You can’t only expect me to make friends with members of your friends.”
“That was what you did before.”
“Yes.” Jangmi sighed. “That’s when I couldn’t speak Korean well. When I was super shy. I’ve been trying really hard to be more outgoing. And for fucks sake. You’ve all told me to be make friends.”
She paused to compose herself. “Do you know how bloody long I’ve waited for to make an Australian friend. YEARS. It’s been 3 fucking years since we’ve debuted, and you’ve ruined my one shot by being jealous bandmates.”
“No ones stopping you from being friends with Rose.” Jeonghan stated, in a matter-of-fact tone.
“Someone’s gender doesn’t dictate if I can be friends with them or not.” Jangmi glared at him. “And once again. You have no right in deciding who I make my friend, through some bullshit criteria.”
“We’re making sure you’re being careful. You’re a girl. Don’t give boys the wrong idea.”
Jangmi raised her eyebrows at Seungcheol, after his last comment. “Don’t play that card with me.”
She tried to ignore the rage which was pulsing through her veins. “Why do I need to make sure boys don’t get the wrong idea? Why can’t they figure it out for themselves? You all have a brain. You can learn to read the room. Why does the responsibility have to fall on me?”
“It’s because you his sun-”
“Don’t give me the sunbae bullshit.” She interrupted Josh. “You know very well I would have been kicked out of Seventeen if I had tried to flirt with Yugyeom or Taehyung of some shit. Their members wouldn’t have been dicks and blamed them.”
Josh sighed in frustration, before pausing to think of his choice of words. “You know what. You’re right. We shouldn’t have put all the blame on you. We’re sorry.”
“We are?” Seungcheol asked in confusion.
“Yes we are.” Jeonghan agreed, his tone a lot kinder than before. “We shouldn’t have freaked out that you were making friends. Especially since we give you so much shit for it.”
Jangmi smiled. “Thank you.”
“Even though it did look like you were flirting, we should believe you when you say you weren’t flirting with him.” He continued.
“I understand how it looked like flirting. But I tell you guys all the time. I’m way more comfortable talking to boy after living with all of you. Girls’ kind of scare me.” She chuckled.
Jeonghan gave a weak smile. “And about the whole blaming you for his flirting was not cool- I think this is a perfect instance of the patriarchy influencing out through process.”
“I see you’re reading the books I got you for your birthday.”
Jeonghan nodded proudly.
Seungcheol cleared his throat. He had been awfully quiet during the other apologies. “Look. You’re our baby sister. And whether you like it or not. We’re not going to be very happy with you flirting with boys.”
“How many times to I have to tell you I wasn’t flirting.” Jangmi groaned.
“We do have to accept it some point, but just know we’re gonna give him a hard time no matter what.”
Jangmi nodded, wiping the tears which were now drying on her face. “I’m sorry for leaving you all and I’m sorry for giving the impression I was flirting, which I definitely was not.”
She stepped closer to them. “Group hug?” Jangmi asked, with her arms outstretched.
Her hyungs happily obliged, and she had never been so thankful for their warmth.
“Guys trust me. I don’t have a crush on Felix. Or Kevin for that matter. Honestly.”
Seungcheol moved her hair out of her face. “Do you have a crush on someone else?” He innocently joked.
“No.” She denied.
She totally did though.

“I don’t understand why I need to wear such a short dress when it is the middle of winter.” Jangmi complained, as walked away from the MAMA 2018 red carpet.
DK pulled her closer to him and rubbed his hands up and down her shoulder. “Better?”
“No.” She sulkily crossed her arms over her chest. “Why do you guys get to wear blazers AND jumpers?”
“Don’t complain. At least stylist noona’s were nice enough to give you a sweater dress.” Seungkwan said, as he walked past them. “Did you see Twice behind us? They were literally in mini dresses”
“See…” DK poked her shoulder. “Be thankful you’re in a boygroup.”
“Oh yes.” Jangmi said sarcastically. “I should tell everyone to beat the entire patriarchal system by becoming a member of Seventeen.”
“Maybe we can finally get seventeen members, so no one asks us why we’re called Seventeen.” Dino added, opening the door to the venue.
As soon as they walked in, they were greeted with a chorus of ‘Annyeonghaseyo’s” to which they all politely bowed and greeted back.
DK removed his arm around her, as he walked away to talk to some of his friends. The rest of the group also dispersed, leaving Dino and Jangmi standing in front of the door.
“Red Velvet aren’t here, are they?” Dino asked, scanning the room for a familiar face.
“Nup.” Jangmi replied in English, popping the p. “I think The Boyz are here. Do you want to find them with me?”
Dino put his hands inside his coat. “Sure. Are they here anyway? Don’t the rookies perform first?”
“Good question.” Jangmi started walking to the back of the room. “Only one way to find out.”
Dino closely followed her. “You’re not going to go backstage to the dressing rooms, right? Seungcheol hyung will kill you.”
She abruptly stopped and turned around. “Kill us.” Jangmi corrected, before walking again. “Besides, we can just say we wanted to check in with stylist-noonas about our performance outfits.”
“Fine… But if we get in trouble I’m blaming you.”
“That’s why you’re my favourite.” She laughed, as she opened a door which had a ‘dressing room’ sign hung on it.
“So…” Dino wriggled his eyebrows. “What’s going on with you and Kevin?”
Jangmi turned to face him. “Don’t do that. It’s weird. He’s just a friend.”
He wriggled his eyebrows again. “Just a friend?”
“Ok. Seriously stop. I don’t like him.”
“Mh-hm.” Dino unconvincingly mumbled.
“I’m telling the truth.” Jangmi whined. “I swear on my life.”
“Then why are we going to see him?” He asked.
“Because I barely have any other friends besides SM people.” She replied, whilst scanning a map of all the groups dressing rooms.
“That way.” Dino pointed to the left. “You really only like SM idols and Canadians.”
They started walking through the maze of make-shift dressing rooms.
“It’s a bit of a problem.” Jangmi laughed.
“Do you remember when we were given this tiny make-shift waiting rooms when we debuted?”
“They were so bad. I literally had to change outfits in the bathroom.”
“Wasn’t that because you weren’t comfortable in front of us? Not the actual size of the room.”
“True.” Jangmi nodded. “It should have been illegal to have that much testosterone in such a small place.”
They turned the corner, just narrowly avoiding bumping into a group of boys.
“Annyeonghaseyo.” They greeted, bowing down.
“Oh- Annyeonghaseyo.” Jangmi and Dino replied, bowing down as well.
“We’re Stray Kids.” Chan introduced. “Nice to meet you.”
“We know.” Dino placed his hand on Jangmi’s shoulder. “She’s a massive fan.”
“Oh really?” Changbin asked in surprise. “We’re big fans of you as well.”
“Thank you.” Jangmi bowed again. “We liked your cover of Adore U.”
“Seungkwan was so jealous that you guys got to perform in Jeju-do.” Dino added.
“It’s such a nice place.” Seungmin complimented.
“Also, do you know where the bathroom is?” Chan added quickly. Only then did she notice he seemed to be hopping up and down on the spot
Dino nodded. “It’s next to the door we walked in from. I need to use it as well. Do you mind if I come with you?”
“That’s fine.” Changbin smiled.
Dino turned to face Jangmi. “Are you going to wait here?”
“Probably. Don’t really need to go to the boy's bathroom.” She joked.
“Nice meeting you.” Chan said in English to Jangmi, before Changbin, Seungmin, and he followed Dino out of the maze to the bathroom.
Only then did she realise that she hadn’t even introduced herself properly to potentially her two new Aussie friends.
Jangmi sighed. She couldn’t even ask Dino to mention that she was Australian because her outfit didn’t have any pockets, so she didn’t have her phone on her. And she couldn’t go annoy Kevin because she wouldn’t have any idea where she was.
She was pulled out of her thoughts, by footsteps approaching her to her left.
“Annyeonghaseyo.” She instinctually bowed.
“Annyeonghaseyo.” The boy repeated, looking around frantically.
Only then did Jangmi realise who it was. “You’re Felix.” She switched in English.
Felix stopped looking around. “Yes… I’m Felix.” He replied, with slight hesitancy.
Jangmi’s eyes widened. “I’m sorry. I know your Felix.” She stammered. “I was hoping to see you around today.”
“Really?”
“Yeah! I wanted to meet a fellow Australian.” Jangmi chuckled. “We’re a rare breed around here.”
“Hi.” He continued looking around.
“Are you looking for your members?” She asked. “They’ve gone with Chan- sorry Dino- to the toilet.”
“Oh thank you.” He sighed in relief. “I thought they ditched me.”
“Yeah nah. You’re good. Did you want me to show you where the toilets are?”
Felix took a step closer. “Nah. You’re alright. I didn’t need to go. I was just bored.”
“You’re rookies.” Jangmi laughed. “You shouldn’t be bored. Plus you guys have pockets to have your phones on you.”
Felix rolled his eyes. “Chan thought it would be a good idea to put my phone in Korean so I could improve with my reading.”
“Oh my god!” Jangmi exclaimed loudly. “Wonwoo made me do the same thing.”
“I don’t even think I’m improving. I’m just on my phone less.”
She nodded in agreement. “This might sound random. But I was watching one of your interviews the other day, and I saw Hyunjin speaking with an Australian accent. I was so proud.”
Felix threw his head back and laughed. “I guess that’s what happens when there are only Australians in a group.”
“Josh and Vernon are really killing the vibe with their rhotacized r’s.”
“Earlier today, Woojin asked for water without the r at the end.” He paused for dramatic effect. “Chan and I nearly cried happy tears.”
Jangmi threw her hands in the air. “You’re just showing off now. I get in trouble for not pronouncing my r’s.”
“Should’ve joined Stray Kids.” Felix winked.
“Honestly. The offer sounds pre tempting.”
He leaned against the wall, next to them. “Are you friends with Rosé?”
“Unfortunately, not.” Jangmi pouted. “She’s too pretty, I’m scared to make conversation.”
Felix bit his lip, looking as if he was hesitating to say something.
“How’s your first year as an idol been?” Jangmi asked, leaning her back against the wall.
“Really fun. I love performing, and the adrenaline rush when we go on stage.”
Jangmi smiled widely. “It’s the best feeling, right?” She showed her arm. “If I wasn’t wearing a sweater, you’d be able to see goosebumps.”
Felix laughed. “You’re cute,” before he cupped his mouth shut.
“I’m adorable.” Jangmi corrected, ignoring the blush rising on his cheeks. “How are you finding the schedule?”
“I never thought I could function with so little sleep.” He admitted.
“I have a theory it’s the performance adrenaline.”
“I can’t even complain because 3RACHA are the ones pulling all-nighters in the studio.” The colour was slowly draining from his cheeks.
“Dude! Same here. Everyone’s always producing or choreographing or songwriting. Their work ethic is crazy.”
Felix nodded in agreement.
“I think being lazy is in our blood.” She continued. “I would say terrible skin is also in our blood cos of the O Zone layer- but your skin looks really nice.”
“I’ve been told my freckles are my killing point.” Jangmi laughed, before leaning closer to get a closer look at his freckles.
“They really are pretty.” She leaned back, to her original position. “I just have pimples.”
“But your still beautiful.”
Jangmi looked into his eyes. “Listen. Boosting up my ego has disastrous consequences.”
Felix smiled. “I guess I should boost it up more often.”
“What makes you think we’re gonna chat after today?” She playfully challenged.
“I think we’re enjoying each other’s company.”
Before Jangmi could agree, she heard a throat being cleared in front of them. She looked up to see her leader standing in front of them, with his hands crossed. Only then did she realise how close Felix and she had been. She quickly took a step back and swiped a stray piece of hair behind her ear.
“Why are you here?” Seungcheol commanded, sparing no introduction to the rookie.
“Annyeonghaseyo Sunbaemin.” Felix quickly bowed, speaking much quieter than he did before.
Seungcheol used his time to quickly scan the Sydneysider. He noted his burning red ears and his slightly red cheeks. As well as Felix doing everything to avoid eye contact.
He bowed back, probably in forced politeness. “Annyeonghaseyo.”
Felix definitely could sense the tenseness in the air. “I- I need to… umm.. I should go back to… to the… dressing room.” He stumbled over his words. Cheol’s intimidating aura definitely had played a part to this shift in confidence.
“No. You can stay.” Jeonghan suddenly spoke, coming out of the corner, with Joshua following right behind. “Answer his question.”
“I was saying hi to a friend.”
“What friend?” Jeonghan shot down her point. “I don’t think I’ve seen you talk to him.”
“Annyeonghaseyo Sunbaemin,” Felix repeated.
“Actually….” Jeonghan continued, ignoring the greeting. “How do you know Jangmi?” He asked, turning the question to Felix.
“We met today?” He replied weakly.
“Are you sure about that?” Jeonghan prodded. “Because you don’t seem so sure.”
Felix’s eyes began darting across the room. “Um… We really met today.”
Jangmi groaned. “Stop interrogating him. He said we met today.” She switched to English. “You can find your members. I’m sorry about them” She gestured around her.
“Thanks.” Felix pushed himself off the wall. “It was really nice meeting you. Maybe we can hang out?” He asked hopefully, pulling out his phone from his pocket.
Wrong move, Jangmi thought. Way to read the room.
Seungcheol grabbed her arm before she had a chance to reply.
“We need to go,” Jeonghan answered firmly, on her behalf.
“Good luck with everything,” Seungcheol yelled behind him, as he pulled her away. Jeonghan walked beside them.
Joshua stayed back, for a split second. “Hey man.” He spoke calmly in English. “You’re a rookie, and you don’t want to do anything which will jeopardise your future. Right?”
Felix gulped and nodded.
“Just think of the consequences of your actions for the rest of your 6 members.”
“We actually have 8 other members,” Felix mumbled.
“Exactly. More people to think about.” Joshua spoke seriously. “I’m sure you need to head back anyway. They must be looking for you.”
Felix nodded, avoiding Joshua’s eyes. Even though he was speaking calmly, there was an underlying tone of hostility.
Joshua clapped his hands together and smiled. “See you around.” He cheerily added as he ran up to catch up with the rest of his members.
Weird. Felix though.

Visual Ranking
Seventeen AU: 14th member
Jangmi x SVT
Recap: Dino decides the visual ranking of SVT in OFD.
Words: 1k
Requested: YES
AN: Requests are OPEN: I tried to keep this as similar to the iconic visual ranking as possible, so enjoy all the translations pairing up 😊
Also anon I’m sorry for spoiling the ranking when I responded to ur message. Hope you enjoy & thank you for requesting
Jangmi’s Masterlist
Tumblr media
“Seventeens visual ranking chosen by yourself.” Dino read out while showing the camera the yellow paper.
Jangmi internally cringed. Why did they think this was a good idea? Didn’t the PD-nims know that its rude to rank people based on the beauty? Plus all the k-netz were currently at her throat about her body.
She shuffled back a bit, hitting her back against the wall, allowing DK and Vernon to shield her from the camera.
Jangmi knew she couldn’t get out of the situation, and the only thing she could do was put on a brave face and politely laugh at the roasting. Even if it was going against her morals of not degrading people.
Dino walked up and down the line the members were standing in, folding his hands behind his back.
“You look like a drill sergeant!” Hoshi yelled.
“A handsome one.” Joshua added, buttering up the twin-maknae.
“Exactly.” Dino confirmed, positing himself at the top of the line. “Yes I am, I am 1st! This is an extremely sensitive subject; I think you all know.”
Jangmi laughed. Bless his confidence.
He continued talking. “I am handsome, am I not?”
“Oh yes, you face is lit up... its shining!” DK complimented him.
She decided that the only way she could get out of being last was to hype him up like the rest of the members. “You shine brighter than the sun.”
“I’m also hotter than the sun.”
Jangmi furrowed her eyebrows. “You can’t compliment yourself as well. You just seem… cocky.”
“Is that so?” Dino challenged stepping forward. “In that case, I shouldn’t rank you highly since I don’t want to start acting-” He paused for dramatic effect. “-cocky.”
Jangmi’s eyes widened. So much for being nice. “Wait. No.” She stammered. “You’re not cocky. You’re humble. In fact, the humblest person in the group.”
Dino flashed a grin. He had won. “In that case, I won’t hold it against you.” He stepped back into the line.
“I'll choose second place now.”
“You’re saying you’re first?” Hoshi chimed in.
Jangmi groaned. He’d dug his own grave. He would be 14th. No doubt.
Dino scoffed. “Hoshi just can’t accept the truth, can he?” Jangmi, along with the others nodded. Blindly agreeing to whatever Dino was saying.
“You should already know where your place will be.”
Hoshi pouted, muttering something under his breath.
If anyone could make this awful segment somewhat entertaining it would be him.
“And in second place… Coups hyung. You’ve worked hard.”
Seungcheol ran over and jumped into Dino’s arms.
“Congrats!” Jangmi cheered, which he replied to by waving his fists in the air.
“And in third place… For me recently… Wonwoo hyung.”
She politely applauded.
“I consider everyone until sixth to be in the same class as me.” Dino clarified, whilst Seungcheol and Wonwoo jumped happily around him.
“Fourth will be... ehh... Jeonghan hyung.”
“Drag it out a bit more, if possible.” The staff asked from in front of them. “Have bigger reactions.”
Everyone nodded.
Jangmi fiddled with her fingers. The more names Chan was listing, the more she realised she despised this segment.
She knew she’d be getting hate comments either way. Ranked highly and everyone would be talking shit about how Dino lied (which is probably true) and it’s only because she’s a girl, but if she ranked lowly, they would question why she was even in the group.
“Now… for fifth place.” Dino announced.
DK raised his hand up from beside her. “Pick me! Pick me!”
“This hyung is a foreign member.”
DK stopped jumping up and down. “218 bro” he whispered, offering a fist bump to Vernon.
Vernon happily completed it. Well, he looked happy- couldn’t really tell with his mask.
Jangmi looked at Dino, waiting for him to give another clue of who would be chosen next.
“This hyung speaks English.”
“I guess it’s not us then.” Jun teased, elbowing The8 in the stomach.
Jangmi smiled. “He doesn’t think the performance unit is good looking enough.”
“That’s not true.” Chan corrected, pouting at the end of this statement. She smirked. He couldn’t keep up the arrogant facade for a mere 5 minutes. Honestly the team’s baby.
“Really?!” Jun challenged.
Chan glared at him. “Do you really want to question my authority?”
Jun put his hands up in defeat, well aware of the stakes.
“Didn’t think you would.” Chan added coldly.
“Hurry up and announce who’s fifth.” Seungkwan rushed, flapping his hands in front of him.
Dino raised one eyebrow. “Take a break and come back if you’re bored. You’ll be one of the last anyway.”
“Don’t sprout nonsense.” Seungkwan argued. “I’m meant to be in the top ranking, and you know it.”
“Delusional.” Jangmi snidely remarked. She turned to face the camera. “Korean teacher. I used a new word in a sentence. Are you proud?’
Everyone laughed at Jangmi’s sudden shift in mood.
“Actually. Scratch what I said.” Dino spoke up.
“Jangmi’s sixth.”
“Wait what?” Jangmi turned to face him, with a confused look on her face. “Me?”
“Her?” Woozi asked. Equally as shocked.
“Brains are beauty.” Dino explained. “Plus, she roasted Seungkwan.”
Jangmi grinned from ear to ear. “I love you!” She yelled as she ran towards Dino to give him a hug.
“You know he only put you sixth to annoy Seungkwan.” DK teased.
She stuck her tongue out, still hugging Dino. “I can’t hear you from so far down.”
“That’s how I feel when I talk to you.” Mingyu added.
“Yah! This has nothing to do with you.” Jangmi scolded. “Stop trying to get screentime.”
The others agreed, scolding the tallest member.
As Dino continued ranking the remaining members- Joshua was bumped down to sixth after her incredible roasting abilities- Jangmi stayed quiet at the back.
Even though she was still ranked in the A+, she was still sceptical to this task. She didn’t even deserve to be there. She wouldn’t been way lower- probably fighting with BooSoon right now. Luckily, Seungkwans’ loud mouth had allowed her to jump the line, significantly.
“You ok?” Vernon asked, bumping their shoulders together.
She nodded and returned a fake smile. “I’m just tired.”
Vernon leaned closer. “I’m here if you want to tell me the truth.”
“I’m fine. Really.” Jangmi mustered a wider smile. “I’m prettier than you.”

Recap: Jangmi finds a group of boys who share a common goal of bullying Mark

Part 2 of Jangmi meeting NCT DREAM, and another part of meeting Jangmi’s Friends
Part 1: SM’s triple threat (Jangmi & Mark (NCT))
Jangmi’s Masterlist
Tumblr media
Another award show. Another backstage room filled with minors who can’t be seen on camera after 10pm.
But this year was a bit different to last year. She had friends. Not many, don’t get her wrong. Jangmi friendship circle outside Pledis entertainment could be counted on one hand. But that was improvement. And she was hoping by the end of this year’s award season, she’d have to include her other hand as well.
There was Chaeyoung, who had debuted with her last year with Twice. She won a daesang this year, and Jangmi wouldn’t stop screaming of happiness.
Then there was Wendy, who she had met randomly in front of the female bathrooms and had been nice enough to translate a sign which said the bathrooms were not in use.
She had met Mark in the minor room at a previous award show, and they had been texting for a while now. Nothing serious, just complaining about practice sessions, failing Korean tests and having a very intense debate about which High School Musical movie was the best (Mark says HSM2 but that’s the wrong answer, and Jangmi won’t hear otherwise).
Sanha was, well, a work in progress. Seungkwan had seen them talking and had decided from that moment that he would make them the best of friends. Meaning, she was dragged into walks with Moonbin, Sanha and Seungkwan. The conversation was getting better, definitely not as awkward as their first meeting, but she’d still hesitate to call him her friend. But she needs 5 friends to fill her hand, so he’ll count for now.
And lucky last Ailee. Honestly, a ray of sunshine. She was already friends with a bunch of the Seventeen members and had happily taken Jangmi under the wing. From hyping her up extra hard whenever they saw each other, to taking her on coffee runs- Ailee was like her big sister. She even yelled at Seungcheol for ordering Jangmi a salad when the rest of the members were eating Ramen. An angel in human form, honestly.
So, with three out of her five friends in the minor room, Jangmi was less miserable. Mark had talked about his members a lot through texting and had invited her to sit with them backstage. She had initially declined but made the mistake of telling Seungkwan who had then grabbed her by the ear and dropped her off in the circle of chairs where NCT Dream were sitting.
“Annyeonghaseyo. I’m Seungkwan.” He bowed while letting go of Jangmi’s ears. “I just thought I’d bring your friend over. She’s shy.” He whispered the last sentence, before walking over to where Astro were standing.
Jangmi awkwardly laughed, while rubbing her ear. “I’m sorry.” She apologised while bowing. “He’s a bit much. I’m going to leave-”
“Oh my god. No.” Mark interrupted, getting up from his seat. “Come sit here, I’ll go grab another one.” He grabbed one of the empty seats near him and placed it next to his old seat.
“Annyeonghaseyo. I’m Jangmi.” She bowed while sitting down, smiling at all the members.
“Oh! You’re Marks’ Australian friend” Haechan said in English.
Jangmi nodded and replied in Korean. “Yes.” She knew that Mark was the only English line member so far- he had mentioned something about more people joining but it was secret information, and he was terrified about getting booted to Canada if he told anyone.
“I’m guessing he’s mentioned us, so I’ll spare the introductions.” The member next to Haechan continued the conversation. “But if he hasn’t, I’m Jeno.”
“I know your names. He’s told me a lot about you guys.”
“Good things I hope.” Jisung nervously laughed.
“Don’t worry. You all must be angels for putting up with Mark and his awful jokes.”
“They are really bad, aren’t they?” Jaemin asked.
Jangmi smiled. “I was just hoping they were just bad because they were over text.”
“You should have heard the one he said today.” Haechan added. “He literally woke me up by asking ‘What do robots eat?’”
Mark turned to face Jangmi. “What do they eat?”
She furrowed her eyebrows. “I don’t know?”
“Bimbimbap!” He slapped her shoulder, while throwing his head back, laughing like it was the funniest thing in the world.
“Uhh…” Jangmi looked at the faces of all the other Dream members, and like she expected none of them were laughing. Haechan and Jaemin was judging the life out of Mark, while Renjun was whispering something to Chenle- probably a translation.
“She doesn’t get it either Mark.” Haechan stated in a matter-of-fact tone. “It’s a bad joke.”
“Bad would be an understatement.” Jaemin muttered under his breath,
“Hey. No.” Mark protested. “You know how zombies go ‘beep boop?’”
Jangmi nodded.
“Well if you say Bimbimbap quickly, it makes that type of noise.”
“Bimbimbap. Bimbimbap.” Jangmi repeated quickly. “It doesn’t sound like that at all.”
Mark playfully hit her leg. “It does.” He whined in English
“It really doesn’t.”
“It does.”
“Does not.’
“It does.”
“Can we go back to speaking Korean here please.” Jeno interrupted.
“She still doesn’t understand the joke.” Mark explained, switching back to Korean
Haechan groaned. “It’s a bad joke. Get over yourself Mark.”
Jangmi nodded in agreement. “Sorry dude, but it’s terrible.”
“Like you can do better.”
‘I could, but I don’t want to embarrass you.”
“Marks the definition of a walking embarrassment.” Haechan lifted up his plastic cup to drink the last few drops of water.
“Hey!” Mark sulked. “I didn’t introduce you guys to make fun of me.”
“It’s because we love you.” Jangmi sweetly smiled, ruffling his hair.
Jeno joined in as well squishing Marks’ cheeks. “Who’s NCT’s cutie pie?”
“Where did you get the water from?” Jangmi asked Haechan, after she was done messing Marks’ hair.
Haechan stood up and pointed somewhere behind him. “Over there. I’ll come with you. I’ve finished my cup.” He waved his cup around.
“Can you fill mine up aswell?” Jisung asked, holding his cup up for Haechan to take.
“Our maknae has no respect for us at all.” Haechan sarcastically complained, while grabbing Jisungs cup. “I’m sure you respect your oppas.”
“Uhhhh…” Jangmi paused. “Not really.” She winked at Jisung.
Jisung gave her a thumbs up. “I like her.”
“You’re a bad influence” Haechan joked, before guiding her out of the circle of chairs. “Maybe I shouldn’t have asked Mark to introduce you to us.”
“So you wanted to be friends with me?” Jangmi playfully asked, as they walked over to the kitchen sink.
Haechan rolled his eyes. “Only so I could become friends with Hoshi and ask him to help me create a dance routine. Don’t think so highly of yourself.”
“Please. Hoshi is ours and only ours.” She paused. “And Nu’ests- but that was only one time.”
“Can we take Woozi then?”
“How about Mingyu?” She made a counteroffer. “He’s a good rapper.”
“What’s the catch?” He asked.
“Nothing. He’s a beautiful, tanned god.” Jangmi confidently replied, stopping when they reached the sink.
“It’s because he’s too tall, isn’t it?”
She turned to face him, leaning over the counter. “I’ve only met for a couple of minutes and you’re already reading my mind.”
“I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship.” Haechan added sarcastically, pouring water from the jug into Jangmis’ cup.
“Thanks.” She took a sip of the water. “But seriously, Mingyu is all yours.”
“No thanks.” Haechan laughed while he filled his two cups. “I’d prefer if we stole you instead.”
“Unfortunately, I’m loyal to the SVT brand. You can’t buy me out, no matter how much money SM gives.”
“We’ll see about that.” Haechan joked, turning around as well, so that he too was leaning on the counter.
“Can I steal Chenle then?”
“Why him?”
“He’s Chinese, so he’ll fit in with our China line perfectly. Secondly, he’s a 2001 baby like me. Meaning that our ‘twin maknae’ term would make more sense cos him and I would be the same age.”
“So you’re not choosing him based on his talent.”
“Oh my god. No.” Jangmi spoke quickly, making her Korean barely understandable. “He’s a really good singer.  That’s my third point.”
“Right.” Haechan nodded unconvincingly.
“I’m serious.”
“I believe you.” He spoke in the same tone as before.
“I’m serious.” Jangmi whined, dragging out the syllables this time.
Haechan just laughed, his eyes twinkling in mischief.
Jangmi caught on to the joke. “You really are insufferable.”
“Did Mark tell you that?” He probed, turning to face her.
Only then did she realise her mistake. “My members… ummm… my members are calling me.” She pointed weakly in the direction where Vernon and Dino were sitting. “I’ve got to go. It was really nice meeting you.” She started walking backwards.
“You can’t escape the question.” Haechan chuckled. “Who else do you talk to.”
“I’m not confirming anything.” Jangmi waved, whilst turning around. “But I’ll give you a hint. He makes really bad jokes about robots.”

“I don’t get why we can’t stay for the ending,” Jangmi whined, dragging out her words. “They can’t seriously expect teenagers to sleep before 10pm.”
“They don’t expect us to sleep, dummy.” Chan corrected, as they walked into the waiting room where all the minors were gathered. “They just want to promote the music industry not overworking children.”
“Like we aren’t up till 5am practicing.” She scoffed, as she plopped down on an empty seat and patted the next seat for Chan to join her.
“At least we get comfier seats,” Seungkwan added, taking the seat which was meant for Chan.
“I was going to sit there,” Chan complained.
Vernon completed their mini circle, by standing in front of their seats. “You can sit there next year- when both of us will be on stage.”
“Can you believe that I’ll have to sit back here for 2 years by myself?” Jangmi fell back into the seat dramatically.
“And this is why you need to make friends,” Seungkwan answered in a matter-of-fact tone.
Jangmi turned around to face him. “Who would want to be friends with me? I have 13 idiots breathing down my neck at all times.”
“Technically you only have 3 now.”
Dino playfully hit Vernon’s shoulder. “You just admitted we were idiots.”
Seungkwan suddenly stood up and reached his arm out to Jangmi.
“What?” Jangmi looked up at him, confused.
“Minee!” Dino shouted, as he quickly claimed his seatback.
Seungkwan grabbed her arm and pulled her out of her seat. “Let’s go make friends.”
Jangmi looked back at Dino and Vernon, as she was dragged away from them. “Wait. No. I was joking. Seungkwan. I Swear. You, idiots, are the only friends I need.”
Chan gave her a thumbs up. She chose to ignore the evil glint in his eyes.
She turned back to face Seungkwan, as he walked closer to a group of boys. “Please don’t make me talk to them. I really don’t want to.” Her voice had softened, and there was a hint of vulnerability seeping through.
“Jangmi.” Seungkwan stopped walking and turned around to face her. “You need to make friends outside Seventeen. Why are you so scared?”
She looked towards the ground, avoiding Seungkwans’ affectionate gaze. “I can’t speak Korean well.” She muttered.
He kicked her ankle, forcing Jangmi to look back up. “Your Korean’s fine. And if anyone gives you shit for it- tell Seungcheol Hyung. He’ll murder them or something.”
Seungkwan looked like he was going to say something else but was interrupted by someone tapping his back.
“Seungkwan-a. Annyeonghaseyo.”
Jangmi peered around Seungkwan to see who was greeting him. The other members and she were always so surprised in how fast Seungkwan made friends.
“Moonbin. Your performance was amazing. I loved the dance break.” Seungkwan gushed, as he pulled his friend in a hug.
Only then did Jangmi notice someone standing next to Moonbin. She bowed politely.
“Annyeonghaseyo.” She side glanced at Seungkwan, hoping he would introduce her. If not, it was just going to be a really awkward silence.
Thankfully, he knew how to read the room and pulled Jangmi closer to him. “I don’t know if you’ve spoken to her yet, she’s pretty shy. But this is our maknae Jangmi.”
“Annyeonghaseyo. Seventeen’s maknae Jangmi-ibnida.” She repeated her greeting and bowed again.
“I think we’ve just said hello as a group. I’m Moonbin and this is our maknae Sanha.” Moonbin pointed over to the boy standing next to him.
“How old are you?” Sanha asked.
“I was born in 2001,” Jangmi replied.
“I’m trying to find some friends, but you’re too young." He sighed. "I’m born in 2000.”
“You can still be friends.” Seungkwan chimed in, gentling pushing Jangmi closer to Sanha. “She’s a foreigner. She considers all of us friends.”
“Seungkwan was telling me that you use informal language when talking to… I forgot the name. One of your oldest members.”
“Joshua.” Jangmi corrected Moonbin. “He’s from America, so its ok to drop honorifics. I speak English with him mainly anyway.” She added, making sure that they didn’t think she was disrespectful.
“I wish I could drop honorifics, but I’m scared Rocky Hyung will murder me.”
Jangmi smiled. “You got to slowly sneak it in. And then they get used to it. I only have a few members left that I need to use honorifics for.”
“I’ll give it a shot and let you know how it goes.” Sanha laughed.
The conversation fell silent. Jangmi looked over to see Moonbin and Seungkwan deep in conversation.
“I really liked your dance break at mama last year,” Sanha spoke out. Probably trying to get rid of the awkward atmosphere.
“Thank you.” Jangmi bowed. “I didn’t really do much. It was mainly the others. Minghao’s- sorry I mean The8’s breakdancing was incredible.”
“Don’t sell yourself short. It was really good. I wish I could dance like that.”
Jangmi smiled at the compliment. “I’m sure you can. Honestly, it was a lot of late-night practices.”
They fell into silence once again, but this time more comfortable. She turned back around to check up on Vernon and Dino and saw the pair playing chopsticks.
“Sorry, I’m not the best conversationalist.” Jangmi quickly turned back around to face Sanha.
“Oh My God! No. You’re fine.” Jangmi frantically reassured Astro’s maknae that it wasn’t his fault. One thing she hated was people apologising for things that weren’t their fault. “I’m not very talkative, and my Korean isn’t the greatest. I’m not good at starting conversations. Seungkwan can vouch for me.” She jabbed her main vocalist in the ribs to get his attention.
“Ouch!” Seungkwan glared at her. “What??”
“Tell Sanha I’m awkward at speaking Korean and making friends.”
“Jangmi’s very bad at holding a conversation in Korean, and honestly has no friends outside our company, besides like 2 people.”
“You’re making me sound like a loner.”
“That’s what you are since you don’t make friends.”
“I’m trying.”
“Try harder.”
She turned back to face Sanha. “Even though that definitely killed my confidence… It’s definitely my fault that this conversation is going super badly.”
“You think that killed your confidence. Rocky Hyung told me I looked like a dying ji-ne yesterday at rehearsals.”
Jangmi laughed. “A dying ji-ne? I don’t know what a ji-ne is, but I’m sure it’s not a compliment.”
“It’s like a worm but with more legs.”
“Vernon!” Jangmi turned around to face him. “What’s a Ji-ne?” She asked in English.
“Centipede.” He replied.
“What dance were you even doing to look like a centipede?” She asked Sanha, turning back around.
He cracked a smile. “No idea. But it definitely ruined my mood.”
“Insults like that are the worst at night. Like you’re already so tired, and one-off comment really kills the vibe.”
Sanha nodded. “I agree. I literally wanted to punch him then and there. But he’s a better dancer than me so I couldn’t.”
Moonbin slung his arm over Sanha’s shoulder. “I don’t think you should go around telling people you want to punch your team members. They might think we hate each other.”
“Don’t worry. I told Woozi Hyung to die in a hole last week because he made me record a song for an hour.”
Seungkwan placed both his hands on either side of Jangmi’s shoulders. “I think we should separate them before they admit that everyone in our groups hate each other.”
“Wait.” Sanha raised his voice. “Let me tell you about the time Eunwoo Hyung started swearing-”
“Ok. Time to go. Nice seeing you guys.” Moonbin interrupted, cupping Sanha's mouth shut.
“Swearing’s not that bad. Woozi hit Mingyu with a guitar a while ago.”
Seungkwans’ eyes widen. “Jangmi you can’t say that.”
“It’s literally on YouTube.”
“Alright. We’re leaving now.” Seungkwan pushed Jangmi away from the conversation and guided her back to her under-aged members.
“I was making a friend!” Jangmi protested.
Seungkwan rolled his eyes. “Don’t make friends by exposing our secrets.” He pushed her a little harder, causing her to misstep and lose her balance for a split second.
“Oh shit!” She whispered in English, as she prepared herself for the fall.
Except that fall didn’t come- as she felt a pair of arms catching her...

SM’s triple threat
Seventeen AU: 14th member
Jangmi x Mark (NCT/ SUPERM)
Recap: The first time Jangmi runs into Mark
Words: 1k
AN: Requests are OPEN:
Thought I'd drop a surprise AU today after 'Favourite' Comeback yesterday! Enjoy :)
You might want to read part 1 first: Friendless (ft. ASTRO)
Tumblr media
Mark Lee. Fucking Mark Lee. Of course she needed to fall into his bloody arms. SM’s new rookie who could spit fire (metaphorically obviously), apparently had the kindest heart (according to the shop unnie’s) and had debuted like 3 times this year.
“I’m so sorry!” She quickly pushed herself out of his arms and pointed at Seungkwan- who was talking to yet another idol (how did he know so many people?). “He pushed me.”
“No worries.” Mark blushed, straightening out his suit.
Jangmi smoothened out her dress as well, pulling her hair over her shoulder. “I’m Jangmi, by the way.” She smiled.
“I know. I’m Mark.” He put his hand out.
Jangmi happily shook his hand. “I’m guessing you know I speak English considering we’re not talking in Korean?”
Mark nodded. “Uh…Yeah. Sorry, I can talk in Korean if you want.” He released her hand.
“Oh my god. No. You’re fine.” She shook her head, laughing. “I’ve been waiting to talk to someone in English for ages.”
“Don’t you have English speaking members though?”
“I’m on an English ban.” Jangmi lowered her voice. “I may or may not have failed my last Korean test.”
Mark chuckled. “I know that feeling too well.”
Jangmi looked over behind Mark, to see Seungkwan giving her a thumbs up and mouthing the words “ask him to be your friend.”
She internally groaned, reminding herself to tell him off for being annoying later. Still, this was probably the best conversation she’d had with a stranger in a while. And she was getting more desperate to make friends and speak in English. This opportunity was a way to kill two birds with one stone.
“What’s the last test you failed.” She paused. “You don’t need to tell me if you don’t want to.”
“A couple of weeks ago. It was a dictation test. Let’s just say my teachers were not very pleased with my score.”
“Weeks ago!” Jangmi yelled, before lowering her voice. “That’s so far away. I literally failed 3 days ago. It was on insects. Like what bloody interviewer is going to ask me a question on insects.”
She took a step back, and held an invisible microphone in her hand, pretending to be an interviewer. “Now Jangmi, what’s your favourite insect?”
She took a step forward, back to her original position. “It’s literally so stupid.”
“They might ask what’s the most poisonous animal you’ve seen in Australia.”
“Listen Mark, I’ll let you on a little secret.” She gestured for him to sleep closer. “Not all Australian animals are tyring to kill you, and the ones which want to are far out in the outback.”
“I see.” Mark nodded. “Might make a special request to never tour the Australian outback.”
“Dang! The dingos and roo’s are gonna be so disappointed.” Jangmi laughed, before abruptly stopping. “How did you know I was from Australia?”
Mark sheepishly didn’t meet her eyes. “I’m kinda a fan.”
“Really!” Jangmi exclaimed. “Remind me to give you an album when we see each other next time.”
“Oh. You don’t need to do that.” Mark quickly replied, shaking his head.
“It’s honestly fine. It’ll boost up album sales.” She joked.
“Thanks.” Mark looked at the ground, shuffling his feet awkwardly.
She paused. She shouldn’t let this conversation die. This was her best shot at making a friend, and then showing them off like a trophy to Seungkwan.
Jangmi kicked his feet, forcing him to look back up, acting like there was not a flatline in the conversation. “I know this is a bit late but congratulations for debuting. I felt so happy when people congratulated me for debuting, and I don’t know if you’re the same, but congrats.”
“Thanks!” Mark replied again, this time with a smile. “I’m even later but congrats for debuting as well. You guys are killing it.”
She grinned. “You’re literally he definition of killing it. Anyone who debuts once in SM is crazy talented. But noo…you go and debut three times in one year. AND YOUR 17. Jangmi winked. “I may or may not be a fan as well.”
He raised his hands up in defence. “You could be getting daesangs at 17, you never know.”
Jangmi scoffed. “Yeah right. I’ll just be happy if I’m not back studying in Australia.”
“Dude same.” Mark agreed, dragging out his words. “Wait no. Not Australia. Canada. It would suck if I was back home in Canada in a-”
“I get it. Don’t worry.” Jangmi reassured, interrupting his mumbling. “We all just want to do well. And you have three chances.”
Mark laughed.
Jangmi took a deep breath. Here goes nothing.
“This might be super weird, considering we’ve literally been talking for less than a minute. But would you like to be my first English speaking friend.” She awkwardly laughed.
“Joshua? Vernon?”
“They don’t count.” She replied harshly. “They’re my brothers- can’t get rid of them unfortunately.”
“You’re planning on getting rid of me then?” He teased, raising his eyebrow.
She sarcastically put her hands up to surrender. “Oh no! You figured it out.”
They both burst into laughter
“I’m down to be friends, by the way.” Mark clarified, after the laughter had died down.
“One condition though.”
“What.”
“We only talk in English.”
“I think we can work with that.” Mark winked whilst laughing.
“So…” Jangmi awkwardly swayed from one foot to the other. “Can I get your number?”
“Yeah. Of course.” Mark reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, passing it to her.
As Jangmi was putting her number in, she noticed Mark looking over her shoulder, back to where presumably his members were, and making a ‘shhh’ sign.
“All done.” She announced, handing the phone back. “Hope you don’t mind, but I sent a text to me, so I know this is your number.”
“All good!” Mark grinned. “I should probably head back to the rest of Dream.”
Jangmi pointed back to Vernon and Dino, who were sleeping awkwardly. “I should probs head back as well.”
“It was nice meeting you.” Mark waved goodbye. “See you at the next award show?”
“Unfortunately, I’ll be a minor till 2020, so I’ll be back here for a while.” She ran her finger down her cheek, imitating a cry.
“Sucks to be you.”
“Rude!” Jangmi teased, as she turned around back to her members. “See you soon!”
“Can’t wait!”

CATCH STOCK #1
Seventeen AU: 14th member
Jangmi x SVT
Recap: Jangmi in CATCH STOCK #1.
Spoiler: She sucks at Finance
Words: 1.7k
AN: Requests are OPEN: I spent all night writing this because i didn’t want to study for my exams. SMH
Jangmi’s Masterlist
Tumblr media
“Today, the topic is…” Seungkwan paused for dramatic effect. “Stocks.”
Jangmi’s jaw dropped.
“This is your worst nightmare.” Dino laughed whilst smacking her shoulders simultaneously.
“Yah! Jangmi looks traumatised.”
“She’d already wondering when shooting will end.”
“Jangmi-shi. Aren’t you doing a commerce degree?” Seungkwan asked inquisitively, despite knowing very well she was.
She bit her lip and nodded, avoiding Seungkwan and the barrage of camera’s behind him.
“I know you love finance, considering you’ve done it every year in your degree.” Seungkwan sarcastically continued.
Jangmi glared at him. “You’re making it seem like I willing spent the last 3 years learning this nonsense.”
“Well 3 years of knowledge means you should know this more than me. You should teach everyone about shares instead.” Seungkwan beckoned for her to come to the front of the room where he was.
She shook her head. “No. No.” She insisted. “Really you can do it.”
Jeonghan stood up and signalled for her to move forward. “Teach us what you learned.” Seungcheol also standing up to join him.
“I really don’t want to guys. It’s really ok. Boo can do it.” Her protests were ignored as Josh tilted her seat forward, so she was forced to stand.
Seungkwan had already met her at her seat, and passed the cue cards to her. “Hwaiting!” He whispered, throwing his fists in the air.
She rolled her eyes and walked up to the clear whiteboard.
“Firstly, stuff you guys.” She announced, before unbuttoning the top button of her shirt.
“Right… Uhh…” She quickly scanned through the first cue card, trying to understand the jist of the writing.
“This is literally her nightmare. Reading Korean and finance.” Jihoon informed.
“Alrightly.” Jangmi said in English, before shuffling the cards with her knee so that they were nicely and evenly organised. “Under your chairs are some pens and paper. Take notes because I’m doing to teach you about shares.”
“That’s not what’s on the cuecard!” Seungkwan protested. “If you’re going to MC, you need to read it word for word.”
“That’s boring.” She counteracted. “That’s why ‘Seungkwan’s Past Life’ or whatever it was called, never did a season 2.”
The members hollered at Jangmi’s roast, whilst Seungkwan muttered something about her being an ungrateful maknae.
“Anway.” Jangmi continued. “I’m going to say a bunch of finance-y terms and you’re going to tell me what they mean.”
She cleared her throat.
“What is ‘ju-ga’?”
“The value of the stock.”
“Good stuff Jeonghan hyung! You get a sticker!” Jangmi smiled, before looking over at the staff.
“We don’t have stickers.”
“What do you mean you don’t have stickers?” Jangmi furrowed her eyebrows before turning back to the members.
“We don’t have stickers. But just having the satisfaction that you know finance is reward enough.”
“I’m definitely not answering any now.” Jun quipped.
“Not like you knew any before,” Jangmi deadpanned before clearing her throat.
“Does anyone want to listen out any terms they know?.”
The members, mainly Mingyu and Seungcheol took the floor listening out more terms and words that she had never heard of.
“Poor Jangmi.” DK laughed. “She looks like a fish out of water.”
“Even after doing finance for 3 years.” Minghao added.
“it’s because it’s in Korean.” Jangmi whined, dragging out the last syllable. “I learnt it in English.”
“Did you even really learn it?”
She glared at Mingyu. “Fuck off.” Her eyes widened at her realised mistake. “I mean… Get out!.”
“Good save. Good save.” Woozi clapped his hands, giving her a proud nod. She returned back a small smile. At least it wasn’t live. The editors could cut it out.
“Does anyone know what jeong-chal-byeong (정찰병) is?” She asked, slowing down the speed of her question so she had enough time to pronounce the new word correctly.
“What’s jeong-chal-byeong?” DK repeated her question, with the correct pronounciation.
“Is it when you first test out where stock prices are headed?” Mingyu asked back at her.
Jangmi quickly skim read the answer on the cue card again. “I think so?” She replied, in a perplexed tone.
“She doesn’t know. She doesn’t know.” Woozi repeated while laughing.
“Put the poor girl out of her misery and take over again.” Minghao suggested, turning around to face Seungkwan
“No. No. Jangmi’s doing great.” Hoshi objected, turning his body back around so he was completely facing Jangmi. “Hwaiting!”
“No. No. It’s ok.” Jangmi jumped at the opportunity to return to the back of the classroom (?) and zone out for a little bit. “Seungkwan can probably explain these better than me.”
Seungkwan didn’t need to be asked twice, as he bounded up from his chair and skipped his way back to the front.
“Very professional.” Dino sarcastically commented, brushing the dust (?) off his pants.
Seungkwan glared at him, before grabbing the cue cards form Jangmi.
“What is ‘Son-Jeol’?” He asked, instantly taking over as the MC.
Jangmi quickly hurried off to the side, before walking back to her seat.
“It's what Seungkwan wants to do with Dino!” Woozi eagerly answered, nearly jumping out of his seat.
“It’s what Woozi wants to do to Jangmi every time we record a new song.” DK added, laughing along.
Dino lowered his head, and brought it closer to Jangmi’s ears. “Why are we always getting attacked?”
“I wish I could I give you an answer.” She replied, before glancing over at the members falling on the floor laughing at the joke. “Idiots.”
Jangmi zoned out for the rest of the explanations, instead opting to make doodles all over her notepad. She was jolted back to reality when Dino elbowed her in the ribs.
“What.” She hissed.
“Listen the games started.”
“Wait. What.” She sat upright and whispered, “I wasn’t listening.”
“Just choose 2 companies each round you want to invest in.”
“I’m just going to copy you.”
And that was probably the 2nd worst decision she had every made in Going Seventeen. Because trusting Dino. Well that never works out. And this was a prime example. She came equal last. LAST. A commerce student coming last. Only because she followed her stupid sidekick. Actually mortifying. For her at least. For the others. Peak comedy.
“I was only meant to announce first and second, but I really want to tell you all who came last.” Seungkwan started, which an evil glint in his eyes.
“It was Seungcheol wasn’t it?” Jeonghan asked, getting a slap from the leader.
“Congratulations…. Our very precious twin maknaes.” Seungkwan announced.
The members all stood up and clapped for them, Hoshi running over to give them both a hug.
“Our precious performance team. Oh! You babies have worked so hard.” He fake cried while pinching their cheeks.
Jangmi swatted his hand away, before glaring at him.
“And just like that, the former MC has fallen off the rails.” Seungkwan solemnly announced.
“Cheer up Jangmi.” Wonwoo cheered.
“You’re used to failing finance.” Mingyu added.
“Third time round shouldn’t hurt that bad right?”
“Soonyoung!” Jangmi yelled. “You can’t tell everyone I failed 2 times.” She pouted, crossing her arms as she fell back into her chair.
Dino put his arm over her shoulder. “At least we lost together.”
“Eww! Even worse.” She fake cried as she moved her chair away from him.
“Anyway.” Seungkwan tried breaking up the fight between the maknaes. “Jun, you won Scissors, Paper, Rock, so you can pick first.”
And so the picking began. Both Jun and Mingyu choosing members for their teams.
“Don’t bother acting cute- they’re not going to pick you.” Dino advised.
Jangmi huffed. “Please. They’re definitely going to pick me over some of the others. I’m about to graduate with a commerce degree. How is Woozi’s KPOP degree even going to help? Better yet, Vernon’s middle school one?”
“Oh yeah. My bad.” Dino sarcastically apologised. “Why wouldn’t anyone want to pick someone who failed finance twice and got the lowest score in the game we just played.”
“I copied you!” Jangmi yelled.
“Well in that case.” Dino quickly scribbled something on a piece of paper, before standing up boldly. “Jun-rang-hae.”
“He’s not going to pick you.”
“It’s either you or him.” Seungkwan said, causing Jangmi to jolt out of her chair.
“What about the others?”
“You clearly weren’t paying attention.” Seungkwan chuckled. “They’ve all been picked.”
“But what about Vernon?” Jangmi asked, pointing to her right.
“He’s with us.” Woozi answered.
Jangmi turned towards the team captains. “Vernon got picked before me?” She asked, shocked at being ranked in the same tier as Dino.
“You did come last though.” Mingyu answered.
“I’m a Commerce student though.” She whined, before stomping her feet to the front.
She clasped her hands together and fell to the floor. “One of you please pick me. I beg. Dino’s ego will be inflated if he’s chosen before me. Please.” She shook her hands back and forth, looking into the leaders’ eyes.
Dino ran to the front and joined her on the ground, kneeling in front of Jun . “Jun hyung. Pick me. We’re on the performance team together-“
“Aren’t you both of the performance team together?” Seungkwan interrupted.
“Hyung. Please. I want to be with you. I haven’t failed finance. Numerous times.” Jangmi scowled. “I’ll make you win. I’ll work so hard. I won’t lose.”
“We don’t even know the game rules dummy” Jangmi fired from beside him.
“See. You don’t want that negative energy on your team.”
“Have you made your decision?” Seungkwan asked, tapping Jun on the shoulder.
“Paper, Scissors, Rock?” Jun asked, with Mingyu agreeing.
Jangmi sighed. “Are we really that bad?”
“You know other groups respect and coddle their maknae.”
“Dino-yah!” Jeonghan replied. “We teach you for the real world.”
“Wait!” Jangmi stood up. “Who does the winner get.”
“Me!” Dino screamed, as he jumped on the spot. The members around him covering their ears due to his scream.
Both leaders played one round and it was decided that Dino would be on Jun’s team- meaning Jangmi would be under the leadership of Mingyu.
“Wait.” Seungkwan nervously chuckled, as the two group separated. “You have both Seungcheol and Jeonghan hyung, and we have someone who couldn’t even pass first year finance?”
“Twice” Dino added from the other team’s huddle, pointing two fingers towards Seungkwan to emphasise her failings.
“Don’t worry.” Hoshi smiled, whilst linking arms with her and DK. “We’ll smash them.”
“For sure.” Jangmi giggled. “They might have Jeongcheol but we have Minwon.”
“The superior ship.” Mingyu added, before delving back into his intellectual discussion with the others over strategy.
“We should probably listen, right?” She asked the later two thirds of BookSeokSoon.
“Nah.” Hoshi laughed. “Too much brain power.”

Jangmi slowly closed her shared bedroom door before quietly tip-toeing down the corridor. Her phones torch being used as a guide to not trip over the random jumble of shoes, Lego kits and packages cluttering the hallway.
She turned on the living room light, trying to make as little noise as possible.
“Kim Jangmi”
Her phone dropped from her grasp, and she winced as it hit the hard marble floor.
“What the fuck Vernon” Jangmi whisper shouted, as she bent down to pick up her phone and check for scratches.
Vernon leaned over the kitchen counter, to blow out the candle. He raised his eyebrows as he checked out her outfit. “Correct me if I’m wrong, but that jumper looks familiar?”
Jangmi smirked, as she grabbed a stray black bucket hat which was placed on the tv stand. “Leave it in the bathroom- and it’s mine.” She paused. “Should I be concerned that you’re eating in the dark?”
“Should I be concerned that you’re leaving the dorm at 4:32 in the morning, looking like you’re gonna rob a bank.” Vernon asked, munching on his corn flakes. “Also, I have the candle light. Better for the planet and our wallets”
She laughed sarcastically as she strutted to the kitchen and filled her water bottle with hot water. “What gave it away? The black-on-black outfit or the massive sunnies which cover half my face.”
“I’d rather you sneak out to see your boyfriend, and not that. I don’t think I make enough to bail you out.”
Jangmi reached over and grabbed a spoonful of cereal. “Guess you need to produce more songs then.”
Vernon grabbed his spoon back before handing over one of the reusable masks which were on the counter. “Don’t do anything stupid.”
“Yeah I know. I know.” Jangmi sighed, putting her mask on. “Go to bed soon. Unless you’re planning on seeing sunrise.”
Vernon muttered something under his breath as she closed the door behind her.
She hopped into Seungcheols’ brother’s old car (which he had gifted for her birthday this year) and popped a piece of chewing gum in her mouth as she drove down the streets of Seoul.
Once she arrived 2 blocks from her destination, she parked her car before whipping out her phone and began typing out a message saying that she’d arrived.
That was until she was rudely interrupted by knocking on the window.
Jangmi scoffed and unlocked the car, letting the two masked figures in the car.
“We have about 5 minutes till the others get here.”
“Could’ve had more but someone arrived a bit late.”
Jangmi turned around so she was facing the back seat. “Oh Fuck off Mark. There was a line at Maccas”
Mark lowered his mask before leaning over to the front and stealing a sip from her chocolate frappe.
She swatted his arm, before offering some of her drink to the boy in the passenger seat who was putting on his seatbelt despite the car being parked.
“Want some?”
“I’d rather kiss you.” And with that comment, Jangmi’s mask was quickly pulled down as her boyfriend gave her a quick peck.
“Listen guys, I know we’re all best friends here but like I’d prefer not sitting at the back when y’all are both sucking face.”
“One kiss Mark. One kiss.” Jangmi laughed, before grabbing her boyfriends’ hand, and placing it on her lap. “I know you’re jealous you’re not getting some but stop ruining the moment.”
“You would be getting some if you went on the blind date I set you up with.”
“Listen, I love you honey. But she was such a horrible pair for Mark. They’re both so busy, they would never find time for each other.”
“Yet he still has time to third wheel our dates…” Her boyfriend mumbled as he began adjusting the review mirror so he could fix up his hair.
“He’s my best friend, what do you expect.” Mark held out his hand for a fist bump, and Jangmi happily obliged. Ignoring the whine from her boyfriend for letting go of his hand. “Canada line for life!”
“You’re not even Canadian!”
“I basically made that groupchat what it is today.”
“Still not as elite as the 2000-line group chat.”
“Do I also need to remind you, I am also apart of that.”
“What’s up with you and joining groupchats you’re not apart of. Honestly.”
Mark reached over to grab another sip of the drink. “Do you both act coupley in that aswell? Cos Jaemin says you both are completely normal.”
Her boyfriend laughed before placing his hoodie over his hair again. “Only you get to see our romance in action.”
“I’d rather not.” Mark grumbled before clapping his hands. “We need to decide what we’re gonna do this weekend.”
“Should we do a movie night?” Jangmi suggested, squeezing her boyfriend’s thigh. “You wanted to watch the ‘To all the boy I loved series’.”
He nodded in confirmation. “Our dorm or yours?”
“Jeno said he wanted to watch it as well” Mark added. “So I think we can do ours?”
“Perfect! I’ll bring the snacks. And definitely some hot sauce.” Jangmi chuckled at her wordplay.
Her boyfriend smiled fondly at her, before pushing some strands of hair out of her face. “You’re lucky I love you.”
“And you’re lucky I love Chenle. That boy is so talented. Do one of you think he would go on a date with me?” She gushed, holding both her hands to her chest.
Her boyfriend grabbed her hands, before peppering them with kisses. “Still love him?” Jangmi couldn’t hold back her smile, her heart overflowing with warmness.
She looked into her lovers eyes, and subconsciously leaned over, with him mirroring her actions. Just when their lips grazed each other, Mark interrupted them by clearing his throat.
“I’m not sorry for interrupting this shit, but the rest of the guys have arrived.” He leaned forward, pushing his groupmate back, and gave Jangmi a very awkward car hug.
“Later loser.” Mark exited the car, giving her a casual salute.
Jangmi watched as he got into the NCT Dream van. Switching the drink to his right hand, as he opened the car door.
“Wait. My Chocolate frappe!” She shrieked, just realising that her drink had gotten stolen.
Her boyfriend laughed, before pecking her lip. “Vote for us today?”
Jangmi went in for another kiss. “When don’t I?”
“Can we call tonight?” He asked, rubbing his thumb up and down her hand.
She nodded, “I think we’re filming a dance practise video. I’ll try my best.”
He pouted before leaning in for another kiss. This one softer and longer than the rest.
Jangmi pulls away, taking a moment to appreciate her boyfriend. She parted his hair to have a clearer view of his sparkling eyes. Her favourite feature.
“Go before they horn us again.” She chuckled. “Also tell Mark he’s an asshole.”
“I don’t understand how you both are best friends” He muttered under his breath, as he unbuckled his seatbelt and readjusted the review mirror back into its original position.
He gave her one last kiss, pulled his hood down over his face and got out of the car.
Jangmi rolled down the passenger window, so he could rest his elbows the window frame.
“I love you Kim Rydel.” He whispered.
Jangmi smiled, before leaning over as far as she could towards the window.
“I love you too. Lee Donghyuck.”
