Cryptid of the Week: Squonk
Squonk is a small cryptid native to the woods of Pennsylvania in the US. It's said to be extremely ugly, and knows it-- and so it cries constantly.
Descriptions of it include webbed feet, but only on the left, and loose, wrinkly skin.
In some accounts, attempts to capture it have ended only in disappointment: Squonk can cry itself into a puddle to avoid being captured.

Jan 11 - spent part of the day working on a grocery list and clearing tag-ends of things out of the fridge. Got laptop packed up. After he finished his shift my brother drove me into town so I could drop it off at the Geek Squad desk in Best Buy. Hopefully it's fixable.
Spent the evening catching up on posting my backlog of dragon hatchlings on my FR blog, and getting them posted to AH in-game.
For supper, my brother picked up some fried chicken and potato salad when we stopped to get some groceries on the way home.

15 years now? My god I feel old
Fallen London’s 15th birthday is coming up
On the 11th of January.
I would love for it to trend on its birthday. Think of this browser game, this improbable thing, making it all the way to fifteen years old and getting to trend and all the new people seeing it and being like - what the hell is that?
This is what I wish for. Shall we plan to make it happen? Can we?

Mistigram: Big Dairy, not content with having the government subsidize its industry with the strategic cheese stockpile in caves, has now reached its influence to Storm BBS' daily holiday calendar, as evidenced by this #ANSIart screen of a menacing Holstein by AdeptApril, drawn on the occasion of National Milk day.

Y'know, I hate my brain sometimes but I just remembered that, in most Asian drama, whenever the family lawyer is in cahoots with the main villain, it means that they are in a romantic relationship.
So, uhm, who wants to take bets that Somkid and Yai have something going on other than being a pair of horrible human beings? 😅

Between my usual procrastination, plus a couple of medical appointments, medication change reaction (hello mild nausea my old friend) and PMSing I am getting ridiculously far behind on my Thing A Day posts yet again. But I still actually want to continue making them, so once again it's time to grit my teeth, sit at my computer, and catch up. On about a week and a half of missed posting. *Headdesks*
Since I've been keeping a food diary for a while now to keep a closer watch on what I'm actually putting in my mouth (initially still too many carbs, not enough veg/fruit, and apparently not enough things that contain iron, thanks for the anemia) I can at least reconstruct what my meals of this period were. I still prefer the thing a day posts when I need to look up stuff like 'when was the last time I served or did ___' because I can just skim down the '/tagged/Thing A Day' of them instead of having to open and close individual per day records.
There's a few of the more recent days where I have some memory of doing stuff more than "probably gaming and some crochet". Said gaming till being mostly House Flipper, though I'm starting to get bored with it.
So. Argh. Catch up now or give up on it... I choose catch up now.
Jan 9 - Toad-in-the-hole, salad.
Jan 10 - Started a second scarf using a different yarn, because the Red Heart 'Buff Fleck' I've been using for the scarf I've been working on recently apparently has what's probably undisclosed wool content (4% other fibres) and it's not only making my nose run but also making my fingers hurt. I still want to finish that scarf, it's working up nicely, but I need to take breaks from working on it until my fingers stop feeling like they've been stabbed full of super fine needles.
Dilly ground beef with sour cream, egg noodles, green peas.
Jan 11 -Ribs and kraut, steamed mixed veg, boiled potatoes.
Jan 12 - Shepherd's pie. Think I probably last did laundry around this date.
Jan 13 - Fish sticks, french fries, salad.
Jan 14 - Partially cleaned the upstairs washroom.
Made a vat of soup (based on ground beef, chick peas, tomatoes, and the bag for leftover veggies I keep in the freezer).
Jan 15 - Saw the Nurse Practitioner for 3 month review, she's happy with my blood sugar etc. Did tweak my blood pressure medication. I'm good for another 3 months, yay. Divided up and froze the leftover soup.
Tortiere, sour cream & fried onion mashed potatoes, steamed mixed veg.
Jan 16 - Chili and rice, salad.
Jan 17 - Second medical appointment, to see the chiropodist and get orthotics put in my shoes. Supposed to phase in how long I wear them for over the next little while.
Feeling mildly nauseous, suspect it's the medication change (unless it was the A&W I had for lunch while in town). Nuked pea soup from the freezer for my brother to have when he got home and then went and napped for a couple hours until I felt better before eating.
Jan 18 - Still feeling a bit off and low appetite, but managed to make saffron risotto for supper, with ground beef for the meat and peas & corn for the veg.
Jan 19 - Back to feeling 100% (or at least no worse that 95%). Have finished off the first of two skeins of yarn I have for the current scarf, very happy with how pretty it's turning out:
I am amused by how different the two sides look from each other; the sharp definition of the good side (top section, with the hook) versus the blurriness/fuzziness of the reverse.. At least they're both attractive, which is not always a given; some stitch patterns just don't look anything at all as good on the reverse as they do on the front side. Waffle stitch, I'm looking at you.
Also ordered more yarn for my stash, despite having not yet finished off what I currently have on hand. I wanted to order a bulk amount of cotton yarn to attempt making a hoodie with, and since the shipping was going to be about the same cost no matter how much yarn I ordered, I decided to also pick up another colourway of the Prism yarn I made the recent infinity scarf hood out of, plus some more of the yarn I'm using for this scarf in a couple of other colourways. I really like this yarn, if I wasn't so determined to make the hoodie using natural fibres I'd probably have opted for it (Premier Yarns Colorfusion DK) or perhaps one of their solids.
Ordered the cotton yarn in a pale blue and I'm thinking once it's done of picking up some dye to alter the completed garment to something more colourful. Some version of dip or splatter or tie-dye so it's not all one colour any more.
Made a favourite curry I haven't had in an age - chicken eggplant curry, taught to me by the Guyanese mother of a coworker back in the 90s (though I do a simplified version rather than strictly sticking to her method, such as using a couple of diced chicken breasts rather than cutting up a whole chicken, and I cheat with a mix of yellow curry powder plus individual seasonings). Served it with barberry rice, and steamed some cauliflower florets on top of the curry toward the end of cooking it.

The picket line in front of the Brass Rail restaurant on Seventh Avenue near 50th Street, January 11, 1942, which completed its third year. The AFL pickets wore out 7,264 pairs of shoes and marched 1,728,000 miles, according to union statisticians. The marching goes on as the restaurant management refuses to compromise on its demand that it retain the sole right to discharge employees for service it considers unsatisfactory; the strikers offered to submit the entire dispute to arbitration.

yellow's reaction to ros killing aimsey
Ros: I killed Aimsey today. Clown: [overlapping] What?! Sneeg: Yeah, why don't you, uh, explain. Clown: Killed Aimsey? Ros: Yeah, and then I died. Clown: Huh?! Sneeg: Was it based? Ros: Huh? What, sorry? Sneeg: Was it deserved? Ros: Uhmmmm.. they were like "yo, you talk a lot of violence for someone who doesn't commit violence. duel me." Sneeg: [laughing] And then you just killed them? Clown: [laughing] Sneeg: That's awesome. Clown: How'd you die after? Ros: And then I died to a zombie. 'Cause I was so low. Clown: What? Sneeg: What? Clown: Oh my god. Ros: Well, Aimsey was like "let's duel without armor" and I was like, "sure!" and it was night and- Clown: Oh. Oh. Oh. Ros: -one hit and I got killed. [laughing] Sneeg: Oh, you guys dueled? Ros: Yeah yeah yeah. Clown: Why'd you duel without armor? Ros: Uhmmm.. you know what, that's a great question! Sneeg: And then you got third-partyed by a zombie. That zombie's a noob. Clown: Alright, well here's- Ros, here's- here's one of my Archmage lessons; never take off your armor. Just, at all time- never do that. Ros: Okay! Okay, I'm learning! Sneeg: You fool.
