James Woods’ Home Defies Destruction as Los Angeles Wildfires Ravage Celeb Neighborhoods

In a stroke of unexpected fortune, actor James Woods' house survived the devastating Los Angeles wildfires that have destroyed thousands of homes and displaced countless residents, including several celebrities.

Woods, who was forced to evacuate as the fires advanced, shared his relief on X (formerly Twitter): “A miracle has happened. Our home, thought to be gone, is still standing amidst the devastation.” While the property suffered smoke and minor damage, Woods described the surrounding area as resembling "the dark side of the moon."

The actor expressed gratitude for the support and well-wishes he received during the ordeal. "Thank you for the beautiful messages and concern. It means a lot," he wrote.

Other stars, including Paris Hilton and Billy Crystal, weren’t as fortunate, confirming significant damage or total loss of their homes in the ongoing blazes.

Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, residing in Los Angeles, assured fans of her safety amidst the chaos. In a heartfelt post on X, she shared her heartbreak over the devastation while expressing gratitude for her family’s safety.

“Fires have ravaged neighborhoods around us, leaving friends and families either evacuated or on high alert. Ash falls like snow from the sky, and fear looms as we pray for calmer winds,” Zinta wrote, acknowledging the challenge of keeping toddlers and grandparents safe in these conditions.

Wildfires Claim Lives and Properties

Los Angeles County officials reported the wildfire death toll has risen to 24, with many still missing. Over 12,300 structures have been damaged or destroyed across six major wildfires raging in the region.

The National Weather Service has warned that worsening conditions may escalate the crisis. Santa Ana winds, capable of gusts up to 70 mph, are expected to persist through Tuesday, fueling the spread of the fires.

Authorities continue to urge residents to remain vigilant and prioritize safety as emergency services battle to contain the blazes.

But Woolf’s development of stream-of-consciousness is more interesting than that. It allows absent-mindedness into fiction. A character is allowed to drift out of relevance, to wander into a randomness which may be at odds with the structure of the novel as a whole. What does it mean for a character to become irrelevant to a novel? It frees characters from the fiction that grips them; it lets characters forget, as it were, that they are thicketed in a novel.
