Does anyone remember in red, white and royal blue (book for this not film) when Henry was talking about how James 1 had a male lover who was called George?
Well Nicholas Galitzine is going to be playing said lover in a uk historical drama.
We have come full circle guys!

What Are you Thankful For?
Tumblr media
James 1:17 says "Every good and perfect gift comes from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change."
This shows how every single good thing ever to have happened is a blessing from God! Nothing is good apart from him, only a broken attempt to.
Since God is so good reblog with 3-5 things you are thankful for. Being grateful is one of the best ways to draw near to God and find contentment.
Here are mine:
That my dog found an amazing home
For my wonderful, dear friends with whom I do book club
For my gift of writing and imagination
For wonderful, inspiring stories like LotR and HTTYD that have moved me personally (and furthered my faith, though that may sound surprising :)
For close family to be with for Thanksgiving!
🦃🦃 Happy Thanksgiving!!! 🦃🦃

God against favoritism
I found it interesting while reading my verses this morning, James’ importance of not finding favoritism-
My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism. 2 Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in. 3 If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” 4 have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?
Wow- interesting…. Don’t favorite the rich over the poor, huh?
5 Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? 6 But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? 7 Are they not the ones who are blaspheming the noble name of him to whom you belong?
Sound familiar?
The RICH are the ones exploiting the POOR. It’s been this way since the beginning of time.
Proverbs 15:16 - Better to be poor and fear the Lord than to be rich and in trouble. 17 Better to eat vegetables with people you love than to eat the finest meat where there is hate.
THE BIBLE IS FOR THE POOR- NOT FOR THE RICH
Something every modern church just so happens to ignore… 🤷‍♂️
James 1 says-
27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
That means- the religion of the modern church is POLLUTED!

Salutations
1 From James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. To God’s faithful people  who have been scattered. Greetings.
When You Are Tested, Turn to God
2 My brothers and sisters, be very happy when you are tested in different ways. 3 You know that such testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 Endure until your testing is over. Then you will be mature and complete, and you won’t need anything.
5 If any of you needs wisdom to know what you should do, you should ask God, and he will give it to you. God is generous to everyone and doesn’t find fault with them. 6 When you ask for something, don’t have any doubts. A person who has doubts is like a wave that is blown by the wind and tossed by the sea. 7 A person who has doubts shouldn’t expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 A person who has doubts is thinking about two different things at the same time and can’t make up his mind about anything.
9 Humble believers should be proud because being humble makes them important. 10 Rich believers should be proud because being rich should make them humble. Rich people will wither like flowers. 11 The sun rises with its scorching heat and dries up plants. The flowers drop off, and the beauty is gone. The same thing will happen to rich people. While they are busy, they will die.
12 Blessed are those who endure when they are tested. When they pass the test, they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. 13 When someone is tempted, he shouldn’t say that God is tempting him. God can’t be tempted by evil, and God doesn’t tempt anyone. 14 Everyone is tempted by his own desires as they lure him away and trap him. 15 Then desire becomes pregnant and gives birth to sin. When sin grows up, it gives birth to death.
16 My dear brothers and sisters, don’t be fooled. 17 Every good present and every perfect gift comes from above, from the Father who made the sun, moon, and stars. The Father doesn’t change like the shifting shadows produced by the sun and the moon.
18 God decided to give us life through the word of truth to make us his most important creatures.
19 Remember this, my dear brothers and sisters: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and should not get angry easily. 20 An angry person doesn’t do what God approves of. 21 So get rid of all immoral behavior and all the wicked things you do. Humbly accept the word that God has placed in you. This word can save you.
22 Do what God’s word says. Don’t merely listen to it, or you will fool yourselves. 23 If someone listens to God’s word but doesn’t do what it says, he is like a person who looks at his face in a mirror, 24 studies his features, goes away, and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 However, the person who continues to study God’s perfect laws that make people free and who remains committed to them will be blessed. People like that don’t merely listen and forget; they actually do what God’s laws say.
26 If a person thinks that he is religious but can’t control his tongue, he is fooling himself. That person’s religion is worthless. 27 Pure, unstained religion, according to God our Father, is to take care of orphans and widows when they suffer and to remain uncorrupted by this world. — James 1 | God's Word Translation (GWT) The Holy Bible, GOD’S WORD® Translation Copyright 1995 by God’s Word to the Nations. "Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world." - The Bible, ESV, James 1:19-27

James 1 is honestly one of the more beautiful chapters in the Bible..
(fun fact did you know that James was written even before the Gospels were? It was a letter to the earliest Christians on how to be a Christian, still relevant today 🪷)
what stayed with me is that if you're humble, you should be happy of your high status, but if you're wealthy you should not be too proud: For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.
James 1:11 NIV
Anyway I saw this waterlily pond holding a fallen flower today, under a temple tree and thought it was significant. The sun is shining fiercely here. It is 34C today ☀️✨

Motivation Monday: Finding Strength in Faith
Faith takes strength As we step into a new week, it’s essential to draw inspiration and strength from a source that never fails us. From a biblical worldview, we find that our motivation and encouragement come from our faith in God and His promises. The Bible is filled with verses that remind us of God’s unwavering love and support, providing us with the strength to face any challenges that come…

JAMES S.O.A.P. ~ CHAPTER 1
I had a couple of suggestions for where we go next: James, John, Acts... but since we were last in the NT with John, his letters, and revelation, and we've looked at Acts coupled with Luke a time or two, I thought James... and then perhaps we look at the other "non-Paul letters" on either side of James...?
SCRIPTURE:
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, Who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. ~ James 1:5
OBSERVATION:
Wisdom - the ability to see and know the consequences of my actions or the actions of others - and take the best available path of action...
Who doesn't lack that?
Wisdom to realize when my will and wants are going away from His...
Wisdom to know and use the right word(s)... or to say or do nothing at all...
Wisdom to remember Who is really in control...
Wisdom to remain on the straight and narrow path... (..."the best available path...")
"...ask...and it will be given..." (Like Matthew and other places)
Generously...
Without reproach - without anger or criticism or disapproval or disappointment or shaming...
APPLICATION:
Seek wisdom...
...His wisdom...
Ask...
...accept...
PRAYER:
Lord Father God - I ask for Your wisdom and strength in surrendering my wants and will to Your will and coming Kingdom... and that You forgive my willfulness and accepting the common so-called wisdoms around me... May I remember to lean into Your Holy Spirit and keep Your honor and glory before me... In Jesus's Name, and for Your praise and worship...
So, if I may, what say we go back to Hebrews after five days here in James, and then jump back over to the Peters...?
Seeking and asking...
