Mangesh Annachhatre’s Winter In Shimla
Rediscovering Simplicity Among the Snow Peaks
Located in the foothills of the Himalayas, Shimla is a perfect place for anyone looking for a peaceful winter vacation. Mangesh Annachhatre visited this hill station last December, and it was like stepping into a winter wonderland. It’s snow capped mountains, tall, pine trees and cozy wooden cottages, Shimla felt like a dream, come true.
Walking Along Mall Road
The first thing that I did when I arrived, was visited, the mall Road. It’s the main street where you find a lot of little shops, cafes and friendly street vendors. I bought a couple of things from there, including a warm woollen scarf and also enjoyed a hot cup of masala chai while listening to the street musicians play their instrument. Another must see spot is the Christ Church, which is the second oldest church in North India. It’s beautiful stand glass windows and peaceful atmosphere was perfect for a moment of reflection. Also, just taking a walk through Mall Road is amazing as it gives you breathtaking views with some savoury food options.
Historic Buildings And Old Stories
One of the highlights of Shimla is its old buildings. I also visited the Viceregal Lodge, which is an impressive and a beautiful building that once house British officials. Walking through its hall, I could imagine what life must have been like during the colonial era. Also, most of the old architecture in buildings give you a very colonial vibe and R and treat to the eyes.
The Train Ride
I also took one of the most famous and talked about train ride in India, which was the toy train from Shimla to Kalka, which is also a UNESCO world Heritage site. The journey was memorable with the train going through tunnels and over bridges, while offering the most amazing views of the snow covered trees and valleys below. The excitement of my fellow passengers made the right even more enjoyable and memorable.
And The Best Part Of The Trip
I tried the local dishes there like Channa Madra and Sidu at a cafe run by a small family. I also tried the pastries and cheesecakes from one of the most famous bakeries over there. The food there was very delicious and most of the cafes were run by couples and small families which gave a very and homely vibe, it felt like home away from home.
Final Thoughts
On Mangesh Annachhatre’s last day in Shimla, I hiked up to Jakhoo Hills, which is the highest point of Shimla. There was a temple that we visited and the view was stunning. Shimla has given us some lasting memories and it is one of the most beautiful hill station, which everyone must visit, and it becomes even more beautiful during winters. It is called Queen of the hill station for a reason.
