Spectacular Visit
#JakhooTemple is an ancient temple in Shimla, dedicated to the Hindu deity Hanuman. It is situated on Jakhoo Hill.
Since the introduction of the 6 minute ropeway to this temple on a separate Jakhu hill, this place is now so easily accessible..The ropeway ride itself offers wonderful views of Shimla. You would need to walk / climb up a slope from the Mall road to reach the ropeway starting point. There are ropeway rides every 10 mins, so no need to hurry your pace of walk..
Upon reaching the Jakhu temple, make sure you don't carry any visible food items, as the monkeys here are fearless.. Carrying a stick would be helpful to ward off the monkeys..The giant Hanuman statue, visible from almost every point in Shimla, is at this Jakhu hill temple..it's better to begin your local sightseeing of Shimla by visiting this temple through ropeway.
According to the Ramayana, Hanuman stopped at the location to rest while searching for the Sanjivni Booti to revive Lakshmana. A giant 108-feet-high idol of Hanuman was unveiled at Jakhoo Hanuman temple on 4 November 2010. At 108 feet (33 m), it surpasses the statue of Christ the Redeemer, which measures at 98 feet (30 m), in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
