Do You Hear the Waters Rushing?

Artists: Pamela Sneed, Jahni Moore, Nick Potter, William Raines, Monica Guidry Kelsie, Jason Bulluck, Yanique Norman
Paintings, poetry, performance, found objects, collages on paper, mark-makings, material engagements, digital provocations, writings, and something in between. Through the culminations of these works we see a reality impacted by ideologies immersed in colonialism, racism, imperialism, and yet it is there in the works, between the pages, along the margins, through lives seemingly lost in a reflection of history as in fragments, ruins, and uncertainty thus revealed. Remembering Edouard Glissant’s reminder. The history you ignored-or didn’t make. Was it not history? Only the poets have the ear to the land; only the poets. Through these artists, we hear them speak about the “challenge of the disentangling of the thoughts and ideas” that seem to pad a “heavily subsidized History”.[1]
Do You Hear the Waters Rushing presents seven artists with works of poetic and political dimensions. These works highlight artistic interventions that bring unforeseen ways of thinking from a gaze, and a poetic gesture there is seen a new insight of reality that emerges into un-thought configurations of reality.
Curated by Jamie Nakagawa Boley, this exhibition is sponsored by Clovis Community College in collaboration with William Raines of Corridor 2122.

Press Release:
Remote Castration is a group exhibition that reflects on the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements and how they resonate with a trajectory of feminist thought in contemporary art. The exhibition’s title is derived from a piece of graffiti—spotted in L.A. in fall of 2017—that serves as both provocation and barometer for a collective consciousness operating around gender and power today. While marking a paradigm shift in outdated systems of authority, the present outing of sexual misconduct and abuse of power (on a scale and frequency unlike any before) raises important questions around social behavior, sexuality, ethics, truth, desire, repression, language, selfhood, and privilege.
This exhibition will be accompanied by a related series of events this September. Events include the launch of Futura/No Futura, a new collection of 26 broadsheets featuring concrete poetry by women artists, published by LAXART; a lecture on sculpture and reproductive rights by artist and lawyer Ragen Moss; performance by Daniel T. Gaitor-Lomack; and more. Please check back for a full listing.
