Am I the asshole for calling my boyfriend out after a party after he very Frenchly insulted our cooking?
I (25M) am dating J (27M), and we live together. For the most part he's wonderful, super sweet, and perhaps the most French man living today. He's a walking stereotype, right down to the sexiness. He's Parisian (we live in the states) and has a huge obsession with wine and cheese, and I'll be honest, he can be pretty snobby. He was raised by some well to do old money family that disowned him when they found out he was gay and it shows. He has a few antiquated ideas of what America is like, especially when it comes to food. Anything that has roots he doesn't recognize gets criticized. It's a classism problem, we recognize that, and he is trying to work on it. He slips up sometimes.
We went to a housewarming party two nights ago. It was a potluck deal and I brought a beef chili I had been working on for like two days, it was my pride and joy, and J didn't even have anything bad to say to me about it.
Anyway, an hour or so into the party we went to get food. He had a few glasses of wine, so he wasn't quite thinking straight. It turns out somebody brought homemade Frito pie (and pretty fancy frito pie too, with jalapeños and sour cream and pico de gallo, it was amazing and delicious and I am still dreaming about it), I'm southwestern and it was a staple for me growing up so I tripped over myself trying to get at it. He noticed how eager I was and scoffed at me. I asked what was so funny, and he said it was baffling that I'd go for that first since it was "comically American, down to the fried chips riddled in it." I rolled my eyes and ignored him.
Turns out the friend who made it was standing a few feet away and overheard him. She told us that she worked super hard on making the chili and cooking the pie, and if he didn't like it, he didn't have to have any. I was so fucking mortified I felt like dying. I apologized on his behalf and we stayed for a bit longer, but I was so embarrassed and angry that we left about an hour after that. I couldn't make myself have a good time. As a bit of an apology I left our friend a container of the chili I made and said if she wanted to make a pie out of it I'd be honored, and she happily accepted.
This is where I may be TA. As soon as we got in the car I blew up at him. I told him that he disrespected my culture, my cooking, my taste, and worst of all, embarrassed me in front of a friend and insulted something that brought her joy. I said "if you see Americans as so lazy, stupid, fat, and disgusting, then why are you even living here? Why the fuck do you even wanna be with me? Am I just the only good one to you?" I was laying into him for about 5 minutes. It was the worst fight we'd ever been in, not that we get in many.
He got really quiet after that and just muttered out an "I'm sorry." We were silent the ride home and we went straight to bed when we got there. I even heard him sniffling when we were trying to fall asleep, which was heartbreaking and started to make me feel like I'd fucked up, too. He's been distant for the last few days and I feel like I need to apologize.
Do I? Was I TA? I just got so upset that I couldn't take it anymore. I really love him and I just keep worrying that any second he's gonna say he wants to break up, and I never want that to happen. Any advice is appreciated.

If Gavilar Had Survived a Little Longer
Gavilar: Tell Thaidakar he's too late!
Szeth: I don't know who that is
Gavilar: Restares? Sadeas?
Szeth: My masters are...
Gavilar: Don't tell me, I want to guess. Was it Nale?
Szeth: You mean Nin? No.
Gavilar: Taln is mad that I want to take his place?
Szeth: Stop guessing Heralds
Gavilar: I've got it! The stormfather! I knew he was lying!
Szeth: You're insane.
Gavilar: Elhokar or Dalinar making a play for the throne?
Szeth: No
Gavilar: Navani's really mad that I yelled at her?
Szeth: Is there anyone in your family you don't suspect of killing you? It wasn't them.
Gavilar: I don't suspect Jasnah. Was it Taravingian? He seems to be up to more than he lets on.
Szeth: Don't be silly, I would never work for him.
Gavilar: Is the king of Jah Keved so scared of our alliance with the Parshendi that he’d have me killed?
Szeth: How do you have so many enemies but still have more than you think? My masters are the Parshendi.
Gavilar: That doesn't make any sense!?
Szeth: RAFO
Gavilar: ...Take this sphere and tell my brother he must find the most important words a man can say.
Szeth: Dying requests are sacred in my culture, I will do as you ask.
Gavilar: Wait! As my dying request can you instead kill everyone else I guessed except my family members?
Szeth: ...Okay not that sacred.

ATSV Fun Fact!! - Mumbattan Cultural Details
Gayatri & Inspector Singh follow the Sikh Religion
Have you ever heard of Punjabi Sikhs?
If you don't know - Sikhism is a religion that originates in northern India, specifically Punjab.
The turban Gayatri's father wears - along with his last name 'Singh' implies that her father is most likely a Punjabi Sikh.
I notice this the first time watching ATSV and was like 'wow that's so cool :)'
It only hit me today that 'Oh wait I don't think a lot of people know about this very-specific, rarely-mentioned religion maybe i should say something,'
And because I LOVE yelling about world culture, LET'S GO!!!
[a SHORT essay where I explain the basics of Sikhism, a religion built on equality and justice. And details in The Singhs design, and exactly why Sikh Representation matters]
So What's Sikhism about?
Often mistaken for Muslims - Sikhs are actually a non-Abrahamic religion, with 20 million followers worldwide.
But even with so many visible practicing members, most people know very very little about this beautiful religion!
Sikhs believe in equality and unity - and defending the oppressed. Their book of faith, The Guru Granth Sahib Ji, is called 'Guru' for a reason - Sikhs see the book as not just a code of conduct, but as a living, breathing teacher for every practicioner;
From Wikipedia on Guru Granth Sahib: Sikhs since then [1708] have accepted the Guru Granth Sahib, the sacred scripture, as their eternal-living guru, as the embodiment of the ten Sikh Gurus, the highest religious and spiritual guide for Sikhs. It plays a central role in guiding the Sikh's way of life.
The Guru Granth Sahib is the spiritual leader of Sikhism, and it's treated as such.
That's why in Gurdwaras - their place of worship - it's treated as such, being clothed and held in ornate structure, constantly fanned throughout it's readings (the fan you can see in the left picture).
They believe that by following the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, they can cultivate compassion, peace, and harmony in their communities, while diminishing 'Mara' - concepts like hatred or violence.
Sikhs believe that every Sikh should revere themselves as champions of unity. And because of this many Sikhs have the same last name -
Kaur for women (Meaning Princess) and Singh for men (Meaning Lion).
Having the same last name also does away with the Indian caste system, making it another point of equality.
In ATSV Gayatri last name is Singh. However from my understanding, her name would most likely be Gayatri Kaur in reality.
I think they kept her last name as Singh as a deliberate choice to keep her initials as GS, like Gwen Stacy.
So is Gayatri Sikh?
Maybe - most likely.
But we can't be sure. Mainly because of her hair.
Gayatri has a short bob haircut, and while that might not seem like it matters, it does!
In Sikhism there are the '5K's - different aspects Sikhs wear to show their faith.
Notice the first one?
'Kesh' is the practice of leaving ones hair completely uncut. That's why you may see a lot of Sikh men with long, long beards!
And hence, the large turbans.
It's done as respect for God's creation - leaving it unaltered.
[Fun Fact! - Rastafarians, a Jamaican religion, also don't cut their hair for this reason. Think Bob Marley. Rastas call God - Jah]
So, Gayatri having short hair means she doesn't keep Kesh.
However, Sikh is a super accepting and open religion, and it's main focus is on acceptance of difference, not conformity - so she could entirely follow the faith without doing all of any of the 5Ks.
Also, if you're curious about the steel sword K - Kirpan, yes that's a thing!
Sikhs of all genders are encouraged to carry a small ceremonial blade with them.
Instead it's a symbol of the commitment to fighting for what's right - and defending those who cannot defend themselves.
A Kirpan can ONLY be used to defend the life of yourself or others, which is incredibly rare.
Why is this all so rad, cool, and important?
If you haven't noticed by now, Sikhism is a religion driven by justice. Not just in theory, but in really life as well.
That's why you may see many Sikh police officers and politicians, even here in the West. Most of them wearing the emblem on their turbans.
In fact, Canada has SO MANY Sikh politicians, that in 2019 they elected 18 of them.
For centuries Sikhs have been dedicated to justice, and developing systems of support, whether that be political involvement or feeding those in need.
The biggest Gurdwara (a place of Sikh worship) The Golden Temple feeds over 100,000 people A DAY.
For FREE.
It's a practice called Langar. A communal meal anyone can enjoy. And of course, Langar food is vegetarian.
Making Inspector Singh a Sikh - and showing him saving people and being warm to his daughter on screen is great representation for a community so often overlooked! Despite the fact they are over 20 million practicing Sikhs.
It's a great detail for Indian and Punjabi representation in specific. It accurate shows their beliefs and commitment towards helping others, no matter the cost.
And from what we can tell, this choice came later in development. We know this because ALL of his concept art shows him with a turban, not keeping Kesh.
It seems like someone later on down the line said 'Wait if his name is Singh I think he's Sikh and if he's Sikh then we're gonna have to redesign him and make that obvious oops'.
That, dear audience, is why you always have an Anthropologist in the writing room. Or some amateur anthropologist like me :)
-------------
I hope you enjoyed reading this, I really enjoyed writing it!! Sikhism is one of my favorite religions and if you have never heard anything from the Guru Granth Sahib I HIGHLY recommend it, it's very optimistic and compassionate. Sikhnet(.)com is also a great resource!
I have no idea if this will pique anyone's interest, but I hardly ever see Sikhs reflected in media and I know many many people may confuse them with Muslim, especially since many women Sikhs keep kesh and cover their hair as well.
But if you ever wanted to know the difference, here it is! If you read this far, thank you SO MUCH. And if you're a Sikh and reading this, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH.
As usual, here's a photo of Hobie for your travels.
BYE.
#Did yall know about this? Idk know is any of this is common knowledge im gonna be real dugshjdgjks#It's a GREAT detail its so small but I love it#no proofread you get what i meant#and of course if you have any info to add or correct me on#feel free!! I wanna spread accurate info :)#spiderman#atsv#spider man#marvel#across the spiderverse#pavitr prabhakar#atsv meta#atsv meta analysis#meta#meta analysis#spiderman india#spider man india#pavitr#atsv pavitr#gayatri singh

AITA for not accepting my EX coworker's feedback on my personal project and destroying his favorite toy when he refused to leave?
I don't really see how I'm the bad guy but I thought I'd ask in case there's a new perspective I'm lacking. I am very rarely wrong but I admit I have miscalculated before.
I (M, none of your business how old I am) have an old coworker, Vance* (M, ??? maybe like 100, it's hard to guess dwarven ages) who I used to get along with okay. We'd occasionally share some banter and have the odd disagreement on how a project needed to be handled but it was nothing major. Last I knew him, he had a side job as an author and I enjoyed reading his books. We worked together for a few years but this was about a decade ago.
The thing is though, I've always been a bit of a lone wolf. During my time at that old company, I'd been wanting to leave that job as soon as I started it, to pursue my real passion project. I was only there for as long as it took to support my own goals. As soon as we achieved a major milestone at the company, really the only reason the company was founded, I decided to leave without warning. I understand this is rude among many cultures nowadays but I knew they would no longer need me, and I was planning on traveling quite a long ways for my new job and it was unlikely I'd see any of them again, so I thought it would be best for everyone if I just cut ties.
It's now been about ten years and I recently made a major step in finally finishing my project. Not to exaggerate but you could really say this is truly the most revolutionary thing in at least several millennia. It will be something truly special and people will understand its brilliance once everyone really gives my project a try with an open mind.
But just as I was about to complete it, I heard a voice I haven't heard in a decade. It's Vance, with his favorite crossbow (he named it Blanca*, that's not important but just so you can understand he's a guy who likes to nickname things). He stalked me across the continent! Then just showed up and rudely started providing feedback, as though he was part of this project! And he called me by an old nickname he thought was funny back when we were still working together. Look, I would be happy to talk to him any time, but just not then, you understand? And especially not if he was going to try to talk me down from completing my pièce de résistance!
I've had a long time to consider my goals and actions. I truly believe my passion project will change the world for the better. I explained all of this to him. But he wouldn't back down, and then he AIMED Blanca at me, fully loaded. I just couldn't abide that. So I destroyed Blanca.
Now everyone on the internet is upset with me, but I think that's a huge overreaction; not to brag or anything, but I could have done much worse to him. So tell me, AITA?
Please note that I am ONLY accepting judgments on if I am the asshole for DESTROYING BLANCA, not for working on my passion project. I will not apologize for that.
*Names have been changed to protect my anonymity.

Story Thought 💭
I've had this story idea since 2019 but I haven't had time. Here's a sneak peak. Should I continue or nah?
warnings: kidnap, yandere, possesive
Jacques is pronounced Jocks in French, but is pronounced in English as Jah-k-x.
"Where are we going?"
It was dark inside of his house as he led me down the stairs in the dark. I was slightly afraid since this was my first time over at his house. His hand was securely in mine as he grabbed a hold of my waist with his other.
"Jacques?"
"It's okay, baby. Trust me," his voice was smooth and soft as he whispered those words into my ear. Swallowing a giggle, I nod my head. "Good girl," his thick accent made me squeamish as he wrapped his arms around my waist and leaned his chin onto my shoulder blade.
His torso felt so nice on my back as he curled up to me from behind. I let a smile glide onto my face as he led me to the garage— from what I assumed. He had pulled me to a stopping point and I began to reach out for something. Before I knew what was happening, he was gliding me into the garage.
The coldness bit at my skin, making me shiver from the feeling. "Jacques, why is it so dark in—"
I was pushed onto a car. A gasp left my mouth as I felt the coldness of the car touch my naked skin. The clothes I had on were somewhat helpful with the cold. Before I had time to adjust to the temperature of the metal, I felt Jacques in front of me. His lips caught mine as he grabs my legs and hoisted me up onto the trunk of the car that I have yet to see.
I was so taken aback by the kiss that I had let Jacques' tongue into my mouth. I gasped at the feeling and let out a sound when he pulled me closer to his body, kissing me harder. When he pulled away, I barely knew how to react. Jacques had taken my first kiss.
What do you even do after having your first kiss?
"You're the one, (Y/N)." Jacques said in that perfect French accent. "And you're all mine," he kissed me once more before I felt him pull his hands behind my back.
Rope bound around my wrists and I pull away from Jacques. I was about to say something when he finished with the rope and gagged me. My eyes widened at his sudden act. I was soon blindfolded. I began kicking my feet as much as I could and tried to make as much noise as I could. However, I knew no one was going to hear me.
Jacques picked me off of the hood once he was able to tie my ankles together. I tried moving as much as I could, but as soon as I was placed in the backseat of the car, I started to cry. I felt his lips on my noise as he caressed my cheek with his slender fingers.
"Don't worry, mon amour," his accent was rich and made a shiver run down my spine, "I'm bringing you home."
Teenager (Y/N) has no idea what life has in store for her. She is a normal teenager with an attitude and worries. But for some reason, she can never land a date. And she doesn't really want to either.
On the first day back from winter break, there's a new kid in school and he's in her French class. But get this, he's French. He had the accent, the style, and the chivalry down to a T.
He's the perfect gentleman.
So when he suddenly takes interest in her, she doesn't know what to think. And the fact that she's failed on one test in French, doesn't help her at all.
And so the tutoring of French begins!
But when Jacques confesses that he likes her, he tutors her for free. It's all fun and games until she's kidnapped by him and shipped across the world.
Now (Y/N) must deal with his bitter ex-lover, the siblings, and the French culture.
Oh, and let's not forget the fact that his parents are the ones who want more grandchildren. Now.

Aita for punishing my (42M) son (13M) for undermining me in front of my employees?
I run a very large company, which since its foundation, has been run by my family. My son is set to inherit from me when I die, even though my daughter (11F) is more qualified, which I dislike, but I have no real choice in the matter. To be honest, he doesn't have the ability to be a leader - he's always worrying about the little things, and doesn't look at the big picture.
Truthfully, ever since his mother left when he was 10, he's become worse. His mother was coddling him too much, and he needs to learn what the real world is like. His uncle (49M) doesn't help either, he ran away from his responsibilities on the board when the going got tough, even though he was about to complete an incredibly important project.
Anyway, there was an important board meeting recently, where we have been working on an aggressive takeover of another company, and he snuck in. As if that wasn't bad enough, he disagreed with the plan of one of my top employees, just because it would have put one group of our newest batch of recruits in the line of fire!
In our culture, disputes are settled in a public duel, and the best dueller will win. So I told him that he had to take part in a duel, because he didn't respect the authority of me, or my employee. There must have been some crossed wires though, because he thought the duel was against the employee, but it was against me, because it is my company, and any slight against members of the company is a slight against me.
He then refused to take part, but he needed to learn that he can't just back out of things if he doesn't like where they're going, like a coward, so I continued. I ended up giving him an injury that didn't kill him, but also left him with some permanent injuries, so that he could remember his cowardice.
I also ended up sending him away for some time, to complete a bit of a fool's errand, so he'd be away for a while and so he could learn what the real world is like. Honestly, if anything happens to him and his sister has to inherit the company, that's fine by me.
Aita?

Lady Jasira (Jah-see-RA) Oursbar (Awrs-bɑː.)
Meet Jasira, as her journey unfolds in the intricate tapestry of court politics and familial tensions. The clash between duty and personal conviction echoes in every step she takes, leaving us to wonder where this unyielding spirit will lead her in the tumultuous realm of the eight kingdoms.
For her face claim I had i mind Rachel Hurd-Wood as laura richis, Emily Browning and then in the sketch appeared Scarlett Johansson that her voice fits Jasira actually. (I didn't include the more realistic version as I loooved how this turned out)
Main Family Dynamics:
Duke Cal (Father):
Respects her father's encouragement of pursuing passions but sometimes feels pressured to conform. She appreciates his open-mindedness but struggles to balance it with the traditional expectations pushed by her mother.
Duchess Priscilla (Mother):
The clash with her mother is a recurring theme. Jasira's independent nature and outspokenness often lead to conflicts with her mother's emphasis on reputation and societal expectations. This tension forms a backdrop to their relationship.
Raylon (Eldest Brother):
Jasira and Ray, the heir, have a complex relationship. While she respects his dedication to their father's legacy, his stubbornness and short temper irritate her. They often lock horns over differing opinions on how to handle diplomatic matters.
Quillon (Second Brother):
Jasira appreciates Quent's fierce and honourable nature, but their differing desires create tension.
Fieryo (Third Brother):
They share a warm bond. She values his ability to build alliances but sometimes questions the sincerity behind his charming demeanour. Despite this, Fieryo's affectionate nature makes him a comforting presence in her life.
Helio and Jaydon (Twins):
The twins, with their carefree and mischievous ways, often serve as Jasira's escape from the seriousness of court life. While their antics occasionally exasperate her, Jasira secretly appreciates their ability to inject joy into their often solemn environment.
Phrewenia (Young sister):
Jasira is touched by Phrewie's admiration and looks out for her younger sister. She wants Phrewie to have more freedom than she had, even if it means challenging their mother's traditional values.
Some details about her:
Memorable Quote: "The only thing worse than a person who doesn't speak their mind is one who speaks it but doesn't mean it."
When stressed, she instinctively wraps her arms around herself, a visible indicator of her inner turmoil.
Growing up, she defied societal norms, preferring swords and boyish clothes.
In her pre-teen years, her face was completely adorned with freckles. While less prominent in her teens, they still add character to her features.
Is unapologetically outspoken, expressing her opinions without filter. Her directness might be mistaken for harshness, but it reflects her honesty.
Apart from her arch-bow being a gift from her late grandfather, it has intricate carvings and symbols that tell a family story.
Has a special bond with her horse, a beautiful black mare named Shadow. The two have grown up together, sharing adventures and forming an unbreakable connection.
She finds solace in nature. She enjoys taking long walks in the woods, finding peace and inspiration among the trees and wildlife.
Maintains a small garden with a variety of medicinal herbs. She has learned the art of herbal remedies from an old family guidebook.
Has a bodily mark (tattoo) that spans from her collarbone to the end of her left side rib, a rite of passage in her culture, signifying her transition into adulthood.
Her mother is adamant about securing a prestigious marriage alliance for Jasira. However, Jasira is determined to choose her own path in matters of the heart. This clash between familial expectations and her desire for autonomy creates a significant source of tension.

WIBTA for learning Russian and learning to play Russian folk songs?
I (15M) am autistic. Recently, I have gained either a new hyperfixation or a new special interest (I find it hard to tell tie difference when it's this early on). The hyperfixation or S/I being Russia.
There are many reasons it interests me. The culture, the superstitions especially, the clothing, the folk music, the lanuage.
I've been wanting to learn Russian and maybe even learn to play some Russian folk songs on my guitar, but I'm not sure if this would be insensitive because of the war between Russia and Ukraine. I did try learning Russian in the past and was told it was a bit weird (this was in 2022 or 23 I think) so it's put me off.
I do not agree with Putin's actions at all, I don't think it's fair to talk about Russia being bad when it's not all Russians that are like that it is Putin and those who agree with him. However, I do understand that when someone likes something to do with a country whose leader is a bad person then they might be inclined to believe that that person agrees with the actions of that leader.
TL;DR: My new S/I or hyperfixation is Russia and is like to learn Russian and learn to play Russian folk songs on my guitar, but I don't know if this is insensitive due to the war between Russia and Ukraine
