Does anyone still do Talk Like a Pirate Day? Aye? Nay? Either way, I hope you don’t mind if I take it as an excuse to post my donkey pirate, Jackstock – if you like pirates (or donkeys!) he’s got a little illustrated book of short stories just full of pirate vibes (and donkeys!) in my shop!

Hello!!! Would absolutely love to know if you have any personal headcanons of each dsmp character appearance i.e the hybrid types they may be? (Is Dream human? Or is he some kind of goat-hybrid? Or shapeshifting blob??!)
HM.
for c!dream, he's either human or a rabbit hybrid to me! i tend to think that 'just human' is more canon, if you will, but rabbit hybrid is kinda my favorite. i think it's very fitting, as someone who has a rabbit! i specifically see him as a light brown flemish giant or a palomino rabbit, leaning more towards the latter!
c!wilbur is usually also just a guy but if i give him animal features, in my head he's based off a secretary bird!
c!bad is a very tall demon man. c!ant is basically just a cat except a little bigger. think puss in boots. that's ant to me.
c!puffy and c!schlatt are both sheep! a cotswold and a jacob's sheep respectively.
c!tubbo is a goat i guess because it's popular headcanon but honestly? i see him as his minecraft skin. he is just some blonde teenager to me. same with c!tommy. you could find both of them at a mall or whatever.
c!skeppy to me is like.... a diamond construct thing. or at the very least, some kind of diamond based imp. but generally i see him as this small construct! kinda like a copper golem but skeppy.
i dig the idea of a pig hybrid c!niki (i love pigs) but generally she's either human and pretty buff or i'll go with the cat hybrid thing!
c!tina is a jackalope demon thing masquerading as a cat girl. c!hbomb is, hear me out, a cow hybrid also masquerading as a cat girl. this makes sense in my head.
then a lot of my opinions do fall in line with fanon opinion for the most part. like, yeah, phil is a blond dude with wings. techno is obviously a pigman. same for the rest of the dteam (though i kinda have a thing with c!george being part warden 'cause of how much he sleeps, don't ask but they're also both blue coded so). c!sam is obviously a creeper hybrid of some kind.
i want so badly to have c!eret be a swan or peafowl hybrid because those are so elegant and especially peafowl have some amazing colorations that scream royalty but i do dig the herobrine lore connection.
if i had my way, c!jack would be a cyborg donkey hybrid, specifically a mammoth jackstock. it would look so sick.
anyway. my favorite websites are livestock ones, can you tell?
#loyal answers things#dsmp headcanon#dream smp#i'm not gonna tag all the characters but. i have Thoughts. mostly about c!dream being a bunny and c!skeppy being a fucked up little thing.

#my problem is that they're often small and i am Not#i would very much like to know if anyone is out there breeding draft horse size mules because if yes I will be obtaining one for the farm
@butts-bouncing-on-the-beltway
absolutely yes, draft mules are a thing! In the US they're often bred from American Mammoth Jackstock jacks and Belgian Draft or Percheron mares for size. You can see some for sale listed here.
just wanted a visual demonstration since I was talking about how much I love them

Have you ever seen this species of donkey?
It’s called the Catalan donkey (scientific name: Equus asinus var. catalana) and, as its name indicates, it’s the autochthonous donkey breed from Catalonia. Over the years, it has become an informal “national animal” of Catalonia, which started as a way to mock Spanish nationalists who put the picture of a bull everywhere. Since “donkey” is also an light insult and a kinder animal than the bulls (in Spain, feared as aggressive because of bullfighting), using a donkey as our national animal is a light-hearted joke at ourselves at the same time as it ridicules the Spanish nationalists who very take their bull as a very serious national pride symbol.
In the past, these donkeys were used in the fields of Catalonia, and so there were thousands around the country. They were exported to the Balearic Islands too, and centuries later they were taken to North America where their descendants were mixed with other donkey breeds and created the American Mammoth Jackstock that was widespread in the USA and Mexico.
In the 1960s and 1970s, when people stopped working as farmers and those who remained started using machines instead, less people used a donkey and this species became endangered almost to the point of extinction. Hundreds of them still live in Catalonia’s rural areas, and now there are efforts to not let them go extinct. For example, they are used in targeted grazing, so that they eat the underbrush in forests and so reduce the risk of fires.

SANTAUR SIDES
I wanted to practice drawing centaurs and then I thought of the pun so this happened.
Virgil is a Nokota, Patton’s a curly horse, Janus is an Andalusian, Remus is an American Mammoth Jackstock (donkey), Roman is a Friesian, and Logan is a Clydesdale.
(Please don’t repost my art)

Leading the way into the barn, Cage headed for the stall that he had cleaned out and repaired for Beanstalk, knowing that the rest of the barn would take time, but his new donkey friend had a good stall to call home. "This," he reached up to pat the mammoth jackstock on the neck, "is Beanstalk." Although his owners hadn't really named him, their kids had, and upon meeting one of them at the auction, he had decided the name would stick, had been a good choice. "Obviously," he laughed, nodding his head, "I actually went to the auction with the intention of getting mini donkeys, Cordelia and Rosalyn are super into those, but… this guy looked at me with those big eyes, and I couldn't say no."
"Sure thing," Trey said, smiling at his friend. "Now, let me see the new beastie you've got." He worked with all sorts of animals in his job, and donkeys were nothing new. If anything, they were one of his favorite to work with because they had so much personality compared to many other animals. "What inspired this purchase, then? Needed to one up your brother with his goats?"

In our last session of dnd my character finally got his magic zappy box back from the evil lady who stole it from him - and then immediately got slapped into the astral plane. Didn't bother him, though. As long as his box is back!

TRUTH: I'm sure this has been asked before, but what's your favorite kind of horse? Why do you like them so much?
D »—> In all honesty, it is nigh impossible for me to select but one breed to claim as favored above all others, as there is such a varied range of admirable qualities to be found in each
D »—> Friesians, for their noble grace and docility, similar in disposition but so visually distinct from an athletic Akhal-Teke
D »—> Percherons, for their austere power, or the charming Jackstock
D »—> I could never hope to pick just one

@empkinilly 's mule centaur Cass reminded me that I wanted to swap out Fidella for a draft mule for Cass eventually because A. I imagine Fidella isn't old but at some point she does gotta retire and B. Mules are a very good steed for travelling because they're generally stronger and smarter.
I don't have a name for this boy but he's sired by a mammoth jackstock bc they're Big. For clarification the mule isn't Fidella's he's too old, though I haven't figured out the exacts of where Cass picks him up. Also Fidella and baby gets to stay in Corona but the foal isn't Max's because he's a gelding

Made the mistake of listening to “Chasing Twisters” by Delta Rae and now I’m thinking about a Red Dead Redemption(ish) (more like just general western but.... i still love RDR so I’m going with that)/Frankenstein crossover AU where the creature becomes a badass gunslinger and Victor becomes a bounty hunter to track him down and instead of their final confrontation being in the arctic, it happens in the badlands.
Creature names himself Kade (long story) and rides a giant black percheron named Havoc that looks like the real life horse named Moose:
Victor rides an American Mammoth Jackstock Donkey named Nicolas (after Nicolas Flamel). Why a donkey? He needs something sturdy, strong, and surefooted, and this donkey happened to be exactly what he needed. That said - he’s also low-key terrified of him because he makes horrifying noises (skip to 0:13 and be scarred for life lol) and will kick the everloving shit out of anything that comes to close until its good and dead. Nic would look kinda like this:
Anyways- does the song totally work for this situation? Absolutely not but a bunch of the lyrics just really made me think about it...
See below the cut what lyrics made me think about this lol:
“I was born with lightning in my heels Sewed a spur onto my ankle Bit a horse under the steel. And I lost hope when I was still so young Had an angel on my shoulder But the devil always won”
“And oh, I lost all when I got here And I can feel you even now Breakin' horses in the sky I can taste you in my rage And in the sweat upon my brow“
“And I went home, Chasing twisters in the canyon My cathedral is the badlands Dust and devils on my conscience”
“This whiskey on my breath Feel the lives that I have taken What little soul that I have left. And oh, my god I'll take you to the grave “The only love I've ever known The only soul I've ever saved!” (part in italics is iffy but when put into a certain context i think it makes sense)

Kentucky the Jackass state? Nowadays donkey is the preferred term. George Washington of Virginia and Henry Clay of Kentucky helped to develop the American Mammoth Jackstock breed. Jacks (male donkeys) are bred with mares to produce draft and riding mules. As a baby, I lived on a mule-powered farm, still love the rascals.
