Bought a copy of this for 50 cents at a Salvation Army in 1996. Had a water damaged cover. Pretty good!

Jackie DeShannon - Think Of Rain (1967)
Margo Guryan's sublime original cannot be surpassed, but Jackie DeShannon's rendition is also very charming.
I'd want you to forgive me

Hey guys, look, it's the beta version of "Tangerine," courtesy of the Yardbirds!
I definitely think the LZ3 version is an improvement, but it's fascinating to see it in its original form. I'm also dying to know if it's actually about Jackie DeShannon--it would make sense timeline-wise, especially since the original lyrics seem to evoke a current breakup, while the LZ3 lyrics, as you all well know, describe more of a yearning for a long-lost love.
Anyway. Just wanted to share the musical wealth!

Music History Today: August 21, 2024
August 21, 1944: Jackie DeShannon was born in Hazel, Kentucky. She is best known as the singer of "What the World Needs Now Is Love" and "Put a Little Love in Your Heart", and as the writer of "When You Walk in the Room" and "Bette Davis Eyes", which became hits for The Searchers and Kim Carnes, respectively.

Propaganda for "December, 1963 (Oh What a Night)": none
Propaganda for "When You Walk In the Room": "lyrics about yearning paired with jackie deshannon’s sultry gravelly voice *chef’s kiss*"

Would like to propose an original vs cover poll for Bette Davis Eyes. Original is by Jackie DeShannon 1974, cover is Kim Carnes 1981.

Put A Little Love In Your Heart - Jackie DeShannon
youtube
Good morning and happy Saturday.
I really try to keep positive here, but as we get closer to this election it's getting so hard. There is so much bullshit and out right lying going on, it use to be where we didn't know these politicians were lying, now half the country doesn't care if they are lying. For anyone who is on the fence, let me just throw this out there. Be about love and welcoming. Be on the side of woman's rights, human rights and lgbq rights. Be on the side of hope and common sense. Don't not buy into the fear and conspiracy theories and outright hate. Be the light not the darkness.

KIM FOWLEY: One morning at the beginning of 1965, I’m having breakfast by myself at the Continental Hyatt House in Hollywood, and in staggers Jimmy. I said, “What happened to you?” He said, “Jackie invited me to spend some time with her. And she restrained me”. So I said, “What exactly did she do?” And he wouldn’t answer, but whatever it was, it appeared that he’d been held against his wishes. Up to this point, Jimmy was like a Jonas Brother, a very gentle Yes-Sir-No-Ma'am kind of guy, and here he was as some kind of boy-toy captive of Jackie DeShannon. Possibly it was in his own mind, but he seemed to think he had gone through some kind of restraint that was rather traumatising. Possibly Jimmy was naive. Or possibly he was the best actor who ever lived.
So this supposed incident involving Jackie DeShannon may be old hat to a lot of you, but I just found out about it, and, well...I have thoughts. Would it be in poor taste to write a fic about it, given the dubious consent involved? Just attempting to read the room, since I don't want to piss off a fandom I've just barely begun to be a part of, let alone write fic for, lolol.
