𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | 𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐍𝐍 𝐇𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐄𝐒
Tumblr media
summary: you and quinn finally break the news of your relationship to your families, bracing for their reactions while hoping for acceptance.
warnings: mostly fluff, jack luke and trevor being weird and trevor being overprotective, technically an age gap but not really (2 years), happy ending !
word count: 2.12k
Your stomach twisted with nerves as Quinn drove down the winding road to the lake house. Normally the trip to the lake house would bring waves of excitement, but the only thing you were feeling right now was anxious.
You met Quinn when you were sixteen, back when your family moved to Plymouth for Trevor’s hockey. It was through Trevor that you met the Hughes. During your time in Michigan, the Hughes’ became like a second family. Countless hours were spent at their house, watching games together, and sharing meals. It was during those years that your and Quinn’s friendship deepened. However, it wasn’t until a couple of years later when you reconnected in Vancouver that your friendship evolved into something more.
When you moved to Vancouver for work, you reconnected with Quinn and it felt like no time had passed. Initial coffee meet-ups turned into dinners then into dates. The transition from friends to more-than was natural and almost seamless as if you had always been meant to be together. Your friends in Vancouver remarked how perfect you seemed for each other; Quinn’s reserved and gentle nature balanced your outgoing and energetic personality.
Despite this, you couldn’t seem to shake the nerves that seemed to fill every inch of your body. This was because your brother and Quinn’s brothers didn’t know about the two of you yet.
It wasn’t that you didn’t want to tell them, in fact, you couldn’t wait for them to know and to witness their reactions when you told them. But with those thoughts came a rush of anxiety. You knew how protective Trevor could be over you, being wary of anyone who got close to you. The Hughes brothers, on the other hand, had known you for so long that it felt strange to think of them seeing you in a different light. The idea of their possible disapproval, or worse, pulling apart your chosen family, made your stomach churn.
“Hey,” Quinn said, his soft voice pulling you out of your daydream. You glanced over at Quinn, whose eyes were flicking back and forth between you and the road. “Everything will be fine.”
You let out a breath of air you weren’t aware you were holding. “I just… what if they aren’t okay with it?”
“Y/n… they’ll be happy for us. Stop worrying.” Quinn said, his eyes settling on the road. His calm demeanour was usually a source of comfort, but today it made you feel even more on edge. He reached over and squeezed your hand, a small gesture that sent a wave of warmth through you.
You nodded, silently wishing you could share his confidence. The lake house held so many memories, but this trip felt different. Maybe it was the significance of the moment—returning to a place where so many of your memories with the Hughes were made, but now as Quinn’s partner. The weight of it all felt overwhelming.
As the lake house came into view, your heart raced. The picturesque setting was just as you remembered, the sun glistening off the water, the house nestled in between the pines. Quinn parked the car between Jack and Trevors and you both stepped out, the fresh air coming off the lake instantly enveloping your lungs.
You grabbed your bags from the trunk, heading up towards the house where you spotted your twin brother and the rest of the Hughes family lounging on the front porch. They all greeted you with enthusiastic smiles and waves, unaware of the bombshell you were about to drop.
“Hey, you guys!” Trevor grinned, bounding off the porch towards the two of you. “How was the drive?”
“Not bad,” you replied, giving Trevor a hug. “Traffic wasn’t too bad.”
Quinn greeted his brothers before passing them off to you. Luke and Jack pulled you into a group hug, the older of the two giving you a small noogie. “It’s about time you two got here, we were beginning to think you got lost.” Luke joked.
“Thanks again for travelling with her man,” Trevor said, clapping a hand on Quinn’s shoulder. “I hope she wasn’t a bother or anything.”
You glanced at Quinn, suppressing a smile towards the irony of Trevor’s comment. Little did your brother know that Quinn had been the biggest source of comfort throughout the trip, helping to ease the anxiety brought on by the prospect of telling everyone about you and Quinn.
“No, not at all,” Quinn replied. “She was good company.”
“Come on, let’s get inside,” Jack said, grabbing one of your bags and leading the way to the house. “Mom and Dad are in the kitchen, they’ve been waiting for the two of you.”
As you walked through the front door, the comforting aroma of the lake house hit you, and you couldn’t help but smile. It was these small, comforting details that made the lake house feel like home. Ellen and Jim greeted you warmly, pulling you both into hugs and insisting you sit down and relax.
“So, how’s Vancouver treating you?” Ellen asked.
“Really well,” you replied, glancing at Quinn. “Work is great, and the city is beautiful. I’ve been lucky to have Quinn show me around a lot.”
“Oh, I’m sure he has,” Jim said with a knowing smile. “You know, I’m glad the two of you are still so close.”
You felt your cheeks flush as you caught Quinn’s eye, his expression reassuring yet slightly amused. You knew in your chest that it was now or never. It was only going to get worse the longer you put it off. You took a deep breath, feeling Quinn’s hand gently rest on the small of your back as he stepped up beside you.
“Actually,” you began, your voice wavering just a bit, “there’s something we wanted to tell you all.”
The room fell silent, all eyes landing on you and Quinn. You saw Trevor’s eyes glance down to Quinn’s hand and then back to your face, a confused expression on his. You glanced at him, and he gave you a small nod, encouraging you to continue.
“Quinn and I are…we’re together,” you said, the words tumbling out faster than you intended. “As in, we’re dating.”
For a moment, there was complete silence. You could see the wheels turning in Trevor’s head, his expression shifting from surprise to something unreadable. Luke and Jack exchanged glances, and Ellen’s face broke into a warm smile.
“Well, it’s about time,” she said, her eyes twinkling with amusement. “I always thought you two would make a great couple.”
Jim nodded, a small smile appearing on his lips. “Congratulations you two, we’re happy for you.”
You felt a small weight lift off your shoulders at the positive reaction from two people who were practically your parents but felt it fall right back down when you glanced over at the boys, all three of them looking shell-shocked.
“Wait, what?” Jack finally said, looking between you and Quinn. “You’re serious?”
Quinn nodded, his hand now tracing comforting circles on your back. “Yeah, we are.”
Trevor remained silent, his gaze fixed on Quinn. You could see the struggle in his eyes as he processed the information. The room felt heavy with the weight of unspoken thoughts and emotions.
“Well, this is… unexpected,” Luke said, rubbing the back of his neck. “I mean, I’m happy for you guys, just… wow.”
Jack nodded in agreement. “Yeah, same here. Just caught us off guard.”
The rest of the evening was filled with awkward conversations and forced smiles. Jim and Ellen did their best to keep the atmosphere light, but the tension was palpable. Every time Quinn held your hand in his or sidled yourself under Quinn’s arm, you could feel the tense glances from them. Discomfort radiated from every one of them.
As night fell and everyone started heading to bed, you couldn’t shake the unease. You lay awake, replaying the day’s events in your mind. Quinn had repeatedly given you reminders that everything would turn out okay and that they would come around eventually. But even as Quinn lay quietly beside you, his steady breathing reflecting his attitude from throughout the day, the attempts at comfort couldn’t fully erase the lingering anxiety.
The next morning, you awoke after little sleep, your racing mind keeping you awake throughout the night. You knew you couldn’t go on with feeling this way around the others. You descended the stairs, following the soft hum of conversation out to the porch where you found Trevor, Jack, and Luke sipping from steaming mugs. Taking a deep breath, you walked over and sat down, the cool morning air helping to steady your nerves.
“‘Morning,” you said softly, pulling the sleeves of Quinn’s hoodie down over your hands.
The three boys mumbled ‘good mornings’, not one of them bothering to look up from their mugs. You huffed, now feeling more annoyed than anxious that this had continued into the morning. “Can we talk?”
Trevor glanced at you, his expression unreadable. “Sure.”
You took a moment to gather your thoughts before continuing. “I know yesterday was a lot to take in, and I just wanted to apologize if it felt sudden. But I need you all to understand how important this is to me. Quinn and I, we really care about each other.”
Luke sighed, setting his mug down on the side table. “We’re not upset, Y/N. It’s just… surprising. We’ve known you for so long… it’s just weird to think of you two as more than friends.”
Jack leaned forward in his chair, his expression soft. “And-and it’s not that we don’t support you… it’s just unexpected. But if you’re happy, then we’re happy.”
You smiled, feeling a bit of relief wash over you. However, you still felt a force pushing back in the form of your twin sitting in the chair across from you. You turned to Trevor, leaning forward to try and capture his gaze, which remained locked on the water. You could see conflict in his eyes, the protective older brother wrestling with the reality of the situation.
“Trevor?” you prompted gently.
He finally looked at you, his eyes searching yours for a moment before he sighed. “It’s not that I don’t want you to be happy, Y/N. I do. It’s just… Quinn’s my boy. If something goes wrong, it’s going to mess things up for all of us.”
You chuckled softly, reaching out and gently placing a hand on Trevor’s knee. “I get that you’re worried, Trev. But Quinn and I have thought about this. We know the risks, and we’re committed to making this work. He makes me happy, and I want you to see that.”
Trevor opened his mouth to speak but shut it and sighed instead. “I just… I don’t want to see you get hurt. And I don’t want to lose one of my best friends.”
“You won’t lose him,” you reassured him. “If anything, this will bring us all closer. But I need you to trust me. Trust us.”
Trevor studied your face for a long moment before finally nodding. “Okay. I trust you. But if he ever does anything to hurt you…” “I won’t, I promise.” You all turned to the doorway where a sleepy-looking Quinn stood. He came over to you, placing a gentle hand on your shoulder.
Trevor sighed, rubbing his face with his hands. “Alright, alright. I get it. I’m just being the overprotective brother, I guess. It’s going to take some time to get used to this.”
“Well, now that we’ve gotten the serious stuff out of the way,” Jack said, breaking the tension with a grin, “who’s ready for some breakfast? I’m pretty sure Mom made pancakes.”
As you all made your way inside, the atmosphere felt lighter. Breakfast was a blend of easy conversation and laughter, the expected teasing coming in steady doses. The rest of the day felt like life was back to normal, the initial shock seemed to wear off, replaced by the warmth and support of both your real and chosen family.
As the sun began to set, painting the sky with hues of pink and orange, you found yourself sitting on the dock with Quinn, your feet dangling in the water. The events of the day played in your mind, the change in events now bringing you comfort.
“I told you it would be okay,” Quinn said softly, his hand intertwining with yours.
You leaned your head on his shoulder, a content sigh escaping your lips. “You were right. I just needed to get out of my own head.”
Quinn pressed a kiss to your temple, his voice filled with affection. “That’s what I’m here for.”

യ QUINN HUGHES
boyfriend quinn who stays over at your place more often than not. it’s easier for you to get ready for work since all your stuff is there, so whenever quinn gets a few days off he’ll always spend them at your place.
he started getting up earlier , sneaking out of bed before your alarm even goes off and for a while you were just wondering where he went before you caught him one day.
looking outside your kitchen window you saw quinn brushing the last bit of snow off your windshield and shovel it away from your car.
“ hey angel , you’re awake earlier than usual, ” quinn greets, shrugging off his jacket and taking off his boots as you start the coffee pot
“ yeah I was investigating where my boyfriend has been sneaking off to these last few weeks, “ you say, as shuffles his way over to you and wraps his arms around your waist; burrowing his cold nose into your neck
“ just getting last night’s snow out of your way, “ he mumbles against your skin, pressing kisses against your neck
“ you didn’t have to do that baby, but thank you. you’re spoiling me, i’m gonna get used to it and then miss it when you’re not here, “ you tease, and he uses his hands on your hips to spin you around, pushing you back against the counter
“ I was actually hoping you’d let me hire someone to do it for you, “ quinn suggests with a hopeful tone, knowing exactly how you were gonna respond to this.
“ quinn, don’t start, ” you absolutely hated when he spent unnecessary money on you.
“ I know I know, but it’s more for my peace of mind than it is for yours really. I hate the idea of you having to go out there the morning after a storm and move all that snow by yourself. not even just the snow, what about all the freezing rain we get? what if you slip and fall? hit your head? break your wrist, again? “ he emphasizes the last part and your send him a little glare in return. you slipped and broke your wrist one time and now the guy couldn’t let it go.
" everyone can slip and fall quinn, " you argue and he brings his hands up to cup your jaw on either side, rubbing his thumbs over your cheeks gently
" yeah , honey , but I don't care and worry about everyone, I care and worry about you. “ he retorts and you almost cave seeing the pure adoration he has for you reflected in those green eyes
“ I’ve lived in Vancouver my entire life. the weather is nothing new to me, I can handle it. but i’m guessing if I don’t agree to this you’re gonna keep sneaking out and doing it for me anyway?” you ask and release a little sigh when he nods in confirmation
the last thing you wanted to do was make your boyfriend get up at the crack of dawn, especially on days like today, his off days, just to clean the snow off your driveway and you knew he would if you didn’t agree to this.
“fine, but not all the time. only when we get really heavy snow okay? and no more sneaking out of bed. I miss my personal little furnace when you’re not there,” you pout and he smiles before pecking your lips softly, his hands moving to your lower back
“ that’s all i’m good for huh? shovelling your snow and warming you up? ” quinn teases, hands moving down even further and squeezing your butt as your hands make their way to his hair
“ you’re pretty good at washing my hair too. wanna join me in the shower? “ you mumble against quinn’s lips and he keeps the kiss going for a few seconds before pulling away and responding
“ you know I can never say no to that, “
യ NICO HISCHIER
bf!nico who shows you love by packing you lunch in the morning cause you’re always running late and you never grab something before you go.
he noticed it one night when the two of you were doing your nightly routine that consisted of him laying with his head on your stomach, your hands going through his hair as whatever movie you decided on was playing on the screen.
“sorry” you say sheepishly, your hand freezing in his hair when your stomach suddenly growled loudly and he glances up at you with an amused little grin
“you hungry baby?” he asks, pressing a few soft kisses to your stomach
“yeah , I haven’t eaten all day.” you accidentally let the words slip, and immediately wince after, knowing how your mother-hen boyfriend was going to react.
“you haven’t eaten all day?” nico asks exasperated , sitting up as he looks at you with a frown between his eyes, one of his hands finding its way to your stomach and rubbing soft circles as if he could sooth the hunger away
" that's not healthy schatz, " your boyfriend chastised softly, when you answer his question with a nod.
" I know, I was just running late this morning so I didn't have time to pack lunch. and I had a busy day so I couldn't run out and get something, but I'm gonna eat the entire day's worth of pasta when our dinner gets here. promise, " you respond, moving closer and kissing that frown away
" you gotta take better care of my girl, ya hear me? " nico says, pulling you onto his lap and pressing a kiss to your temple
" aye aye captain, " you answer teasingly and a giggle escapes as gently nips at your shoulder in retaliation.
but ever since then nico wakes up a little earlier and packs you lunch. of course he writes you little notes and tucks them into the bag.
and whenever he's on roadies he'll always make sure to doordash it to you along with some flowers and a note that tells you how much he misses you <3
യ JACK HUGHES
bf!jack who really does all the little things that many people may overlook but since you know from experience what it’s like to be in relationships with people who don’t even do the little things, you appreciate it so much.
he always goes out of his way to clean up the apartment your share, so that it doesn’t feel like you have to take care of him 24/7. in fact it’s the other way around. he’s the one who will load and unload the dishwasher. do your laundry when he’s doing his. clean up your car when he’s cleaning up his.
and yes the occasional mix up of white clothing and coloured clothing does happen, which results in a few your white tops, being a variety of different colours. mix ups that jack repeatedly apologized for and promised to replace when luke pointed it out to him one day.
“ you should’ve said something earlier, “ jack pouts when he examines the seven tops laying on the bed that you got out when he asked you to show him all the shirts he’s ruined
“ you were doing something nice, I didn’t wanna make you feel bad by pointing it out, besides you didn’t ruin them, just gave them a little make over, ” you tease and laugh when jack glares at you as his cheeks turn red
“ m’sorry baby. we can go shopping this weekend I’ll buy you new ones yeah? ” he says, pressing a sloppy kiss to jaw as he collects your tops off the bed and puts them on the chair in the corner. a place he’ll see them and remember to check the brands later.
speaking of shopping, jack loves getting you things. it was something you had to get used to at the start of your relationship as he’d often come home from roadies with a little gift for you.
it’s just sweet knowing that he’s thinking of you even when he’s far away and he’s focused on something else.
is 100% the type of boyfriend to send you money and with a text that reads “go get yourself something nice, you deserve it x ”
he makes sure to leave you a pair of his sweats and a hoodie whenever he goes on the road because he knows how much it helps you when he’s gone.
even buys you the same cologne he uses so you can spray it on the hoodie and it’ll smell like him even if he’s not here.
can’t convince me he doesn’t do a ton of these cute little things for his girl
യ LUKE HUGHES
boyfriend luke hughes who is a bit of a nerd and collects a bunch of random trinkets and collectables.
and once he starts dating you, he just starts collecting a bunch of random things that you might need at any given moment.
need a hair tie? luke has one around his wrist, waiting with anticipation for your hair to start annoying you so he can offer it to you.
getting a random tension headache? luke has some painkillers in the glove compartment. heat pack for your cramps are also in there. along with an eyelash curler.
he even buys mini versions of your essentials (lip gloss, hand sanitizer, etc) and keeps them with him in case you forget yours.
luke’s ass jean pocket? your miniature handbag. he literally has anything and everything you’d need in one of those back pockets. a bobby pin cause a strand of hair has been annoying you? just stick your hand in one of those back pockets and grab one.
and he loves sitting with you at your vanity while you do your makeup. and over time he learns your routine and starts handing you your products🥺
“ going a bit fancier today bub, can you hand me my bronzer? “ you mumble while applying your concealer as luke holds out your mascara
“ um — “ he mutters, retracting his hand and spins your little product cabinet around, looking for a little bottle with the word “bronzer” on it
“ it’s this one, “ you say, reaching and grabbing it yourself and luke’s cheeks redden a bit in response
“ sorry, ” he says sheepishly and you giggle as you lean over to press a kiss against his cheek
“ don’t worry about it baby, “

More Hearts Than Mine -Meeting His Family
~More Hearts Than Mine by Ingrid Andress~ Author's Note: I forgot that Jack didn't play this game lowkey so pretend Jack is playing <3 Also I don't really like this one as much as the other one but it's still cute Summary: Y/N meets Luke's family for the first time Warning: cursing? maybe lowkey forgot Word Count: 3,128 Luke Hughes x fm!reader
Tumblr media
It was several hours before the game even started and she was standing in the bathroom finishing up the final touches of her makeup as her heart was beginning to pound. Today was a huge day for his family. It was the second time in their careers where the Hughes brothers would be playing together. Sure, it was a big deal when Jack and Quinn did it before but now that Luke was officially on the team it's become even more exciting.
It had happened once already in Vancouver. But since this was going to be the last time this season it would occur. His parents flew out to Jersey to experience it. Which meant she would be meeting his parents and Quinn for the first time.
Him meeting her family was a little different as her family was normal. His family was an empire. Sure, the few times they’ve briefly met on FaceTime went well. But it was completely different where she would be left alone with his parents for the entirety of the game.
Luke was left alone for a maximum four minutes with her family the entire three days he was there visiting. Obviously there were different circumstances but it was scary. They were planning on getting a late lunch before the game started to see each other since Quinn had to leave early the next day. She delicately tapped her finger against the underbags of her eyes trying to see if the product will stay. Luke peeked his head through the bedroom door, his hair still messily laid across his forehead.
“Hey beautiful,” he muttered as a small smile spread across his lips. She rolled her eyes as she fought off a smile forming on her lips. “We’re going to meet them at my place first and walk from there,” he explained as he leaned his body against the door frame. All she could muster up was a nod. “Baby, it’s going to be fine,” he whined out as he walked towards her, wrapping his arms around her waist.
“Was that helpful when I said that to you last week?” she asked, her head tilting to the side. He clenched his jaw as he fought the giggle leaving his throat. “Would they be weirded out if I wore your jersey to the game?” she asked, her eyes forming a puppy dog look.
“Oh my god, please wear it,” he muttered as he delicately pressed his lips to her cheek. “My dad was trying to figure out if he was going to wear mine or Jack’s, so if you wear mine the decisions already made,”
She squinted her eyes as she looked towards him through the mirror, “So your mom just was planning on wearing Quinn’s?” she asked a small chuckle leaving her lips.
“She wore Jack’s last time,” he said in a shrug. Y/N began pulling away from him walking towards her dresser to add some jewelry to her outfit.
“Remind me to stop after we have two kids, I can’t handle all that,” she said nonchalantly. She froze for a moment waiting to see if Luke would comment on it.
He simply smiled and said, “Well what if we have a kid that likes theatre and not sports?”
“Well, then I’ll consider having another one,” she mumbled, avoiding his eye as she struggled putting on the necklace. Luke walked towards her, taking note of her struggling. She pulled her hair away from her neck as he also struggled to get the necklace on. But she didn’t mind, she liked him being that close.
“So you want at least two kids?” he questioned as he finally settled the necklace. She spun around and met his gaze shyly.
“I’m sorry I said that, it’s too early-”
“No it's not,” he said as he rested his hand on her cheek, “It’s good we talk about those things now,” he let out before he delicataely pressed his lips to hers for a brief moment. “So, two kids?”
“Three,” she let out with a smile. He nodded as they started walking out of her bedroom.
“Three’s a good number, we know that very well,” he said as he chuckled slightly.
“How many kids do you want?” she asked him as she watched him grab his keys from the kitchen countertop. He shrugged.
“However many you and your uterus decide,” he said in a teasing tone as he checked his phone. She barked out a laugh. “Come on, Jack’s getting hangry,” he mumbled as he took a hold of her hand guiding through her apartment building.
~
They stopped just outside of his apartment door, when he started to turn the door knob, “Wait,” she mumbled. He shifted his gaze towards her bright eyes. She was taking unsteady breaths, “What if they hate me?” she asked barely above a whisper. His eyes widened as he shook his head. “I mean, I’m the first girl you’ve brought home, what if-” he shut her up by taking a hold of her cheeks and kissing her. She felt her body relax as he kissed her. “Huh, that really does work,” she mumbled as she pulled away.
He nodded his head, “Like magic,” he said with a dramatic wink before he pushed the door open. He rested his hand onto her lowerback as he guided her into the apartment.
“Fucking finally, I’m starving. Can we go?” Jack said as he jumped up from his sitting position on the couch. Luke rolled his eyes as he kept his hand on her lowerback as they walked past the kitchen. His parents stood up from the couch with wide grins on their lips. Quinn remained on the couch, shyly watching his youngest brother show off his girlfriend.
“Jack, it’s not about you, remember?” his father jokes. Jack huffed as he sat down back where he was sitting before.
“I told you guys, she’s cool. Do we really need to do this whole thing?” Jack muttered, crossing his arms over his chest. Y/N smiled softly as she scanned the apartment.
“Yes, we see a new girlfriend of yours like every two months. Y/N must be pretty special if Lukey wants to bring her home,” Ellen said as she walked towards Luke giving him a big hug before she walked towards Y/N to give her one as well. “Oh, you smell lovely,”
“Thank you,” Y/N mumbled, unsure of how to react to the land of royalty she was in. She was being dramatic but now she feels guilty for giving Luke so much grief of him being afraid to meet her family. His father walked towards the pair giving Luke a huge hug before he walked towards Y/N giving her a brief hug.
“How was your morning?” Ellen asked Y/N and she took a hesitant breath. The quick conversation she had with Luke regarding the possibility of kids popped in her mind. She wasn’t going to say that.
“It was good! We stopped and got coffee in the coffee shop in my apartment building before we got ready to come over here.” she replied with a smile on her lips.
“Oh what’s your drink?” Ellen asked as Luke wandered towards the center of the living room to see Quinn eyeing Y/N and his parents.
Quinn would never admit it but he was overly protective over Luke. He was the definition of the older brother role to a T. “You gonna stop being an ass and meet my girlfriend?” Luke asked teasingly as he kicked his leg against Quinn’s shin. Luke turned his head around to see Y/N talking happily with his parents. His heart fluttered slightly at the sight.
“Was starting to think you didn’t know what a girlfriend was,” Quinn chirped as he stood up from the couch to wander towards his parents and Y/N.
Luke smiled half heartily as he wanted towards the group as well. He quickly planted himself beside her, looping his arm around her waist. She was tense and nervous and feeling his arm around her body calmed her down.
“I’m Quinn,” he let out as he reached his hand out, she responded by shaking his hand. “Luke says your brother plays hockey?” he asked. She nodded dramatically.
“Yeah, he’s a goalie,” she mumbles. Quinn nods before Jack lets out another loud dramatic groan.
“We should probably feed him,” Ellen mumbles as she awkwardly bumped her arm against Y/N.
“Thank you, my God,” he groaned as he stood up from the couch, heading straight towards the front door.
His family exited the apartment, practically in a line with Luke and Y/N hanging in the back as he hand did soothing circles across her lower back. “Are you doing okay?” he whispered as they were in their own bubble as his family were joking together a few feet ahead of them.
“Pretty sure I can’t breathe, but I’m okay,” she let out as they walked closer to his family to get engaged in the conversation. He rolled his eyes playfully as they walked towards the restaurant that was only two street lights away.
“When did you move to the city?” his mom asked her as they continued down the street towards the restaurant.
“I moved here when I was eighteen, I’m studying to be a secondary teacher,” she explained.
“Any specific speciality?” his dad asked.
“I think I want to do more math or sciences, I haven’t really decided which side I want to go yet,”
They walk into the hole-in-the-wall rustic restaurant in a huge group, Quinn already called ahead to reserve a large booth for them to eat at. It was a typical pub place, some limited things on what the boys could eat before the game but it was close. The hosts guided them to the back corner of the restaurant where there were corner booths that could hold up to eight people.
Luke guided her into the booth so she would sit between him and Jack, the two people she was comfortable with. Quinn scooted in beside Luke, allowing his parents to sit beside Jack. Luke quickly began running his hand up and down her thigh trying to calm her down.
“This place is cute, do you guys come here often?” Ellen looked between the three of them.
“If we win, we usually get dinner here,” Jack said as he flipped the menu open.
“Y/N and I’ve come here a few times for lunch,” Luke said as he smiled towards his mom. She smiled softly towards her youngest as she dropped her gaze towards her menu.
“What do you usually get, Y/N?” his dad asked.
~~~
She stood in Luke’s bathroom as she adjusted her makeup from earlier in the day. Luke stood beside her as he contemplated on wearing a hat with his dark blue checkered suit he was wearing. He leaned behind Y/N and threw the hat through the doorway to land on his bed. He sighed as he turned on the faucet to get his hair slightly wet.
“You okay?” she asked as he took in a sharp breath as he ran his fingers through his hair. He sighed, avoiding her gaze.
“Hate playing against Quinn,” he mumbled as he then begna to take a hold of some gel to run through his hair.
“You guys will do great,” she reassured as she dropped her mascara back into her makeup back. She took a small step towards him as she delicately rested her hand onto the center of his back as she ran reassuring circles.
“He’s fucking rockin’ right now-”
“So are you,” she muttered as she pressed her lips against his shoulder as she met his gaze in the mirror. He smiled softly as he saw his mom lurking beside the door, his cheeks flushing red. Y/N pulled away from him as she began fixing her hair slightly.
“Mom,” he let out breathily as he shook his head. She smiled awkwardly as she chuckled nervously.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to sneak up on you two,” she said as she raised her eyebrows excitedly, “There’s a lot of family and friends that decided to come to the game. Suite’s going to be a bit more crowded than I thought. Just wanted to give you and Y/N a heads up,” she said as she tapped her hand against the door frame before she walked out of his bedroom. Y/N’s eyes widened as she shifted her body towards Luke. His own eyes went wide.
“It’ll be fine!” he offered as he quickly wrapped his arms around her body and pulled her closely to his.
“Lukey! If you are not ready in five, I’m leaving without you!” Jack shouted from the living room. Luke pulled away as he leaned down and pressed his lips against hers urgently. She responded by running her hand along the base of his neck.
“That’s a handy new trick,” he mumbled against her lips before he pulled away from her and looked back at his own reflection. His entire body relaxed as he took a deep breath. “It’ll be okay, it’ll be fine,” he let out trying to convince himself and Y/N. He quickly kissed her cheek, “Bye, my love, I’ll see you after the game,” he said, meeting her gaze before he walked out of the bathroom. She smiled towards him before looking back into her own reflection.
She was prepared to spend hours alone with his parents but multiple family members, extended family he rarely even sees. It was terrifying.
As she was applying lip gloss, his mom entered the bathroom again. A nervous smile on her lips. “Luke said you were gorgeous but you are even more pretty in person,” she said as she looked into Y/N’s eyes through the mirror.
Y/N’s heart hit hard against her chest as she tilted her head to the side. “That’s really sweet, thank you,” she mumbled as she brushed her hair away from her face.
“Does he treat you well?” she asked.
Y/N turned her gaze towards his mom and smiled softly. “He’s a gentleman and kind and he makes me laugh. I’m not saying this just to say it when he genuinely makes me a happier person,” she explained, her voice cracking up slightly as she spoke.
“After every game he brings me a singular rose to add to my vase in the kitchen. Even on road trips, he’ll bring back a few roses. I’m not even sure how he gets them, we travel to the arena together a lot and somehow after he leaves the locker room he has a rose in his hand!” she said chuckling, Ellen began laughing too, “I’m sure he gets one of the interns to get it for him or he has a secret stash in the locker room. I have no idea.”
Ellen pulled her into a hug as she sniffled slightly, “Had no idea he was such a romantic.”
~~~
The game ended in a disappointing loss for the Devils but it hurts a little less only because it was Quinn’s team. Luke’s parents and Y/N were waiting for Luke and Jack to leave the locker room when Quinn jogged towards the three of them.
He hugged his parents, “I’m glad you guys were here,” he said as he pulled away. He walked towards Y/N giving her a hug as well. She hesitantly returned the hug as this was the first time Quinn truly acknowledged Y/N’s presence, “He’s smitten over you,” he whispered against her hair before he pulled away. She felt her cheeks heat up at the sentiment.
“Good game, son,” Jim muttered as he slapped his hand against Quinn’s arm. Quinn smiled before he dropped his gaze.
“We’re flying out soon, I wanted to say goodbye before I bolted out of here,” he muttered before he hugged his parents again. Y/N tuned out the conversation as she watched a few of the Devil’s players leave the locker room. It was usual for Jack and Luke to emerge later in the crowd especially after a loss. “It was nice meeting you, Y/N!” he shouted as he jogged back towards the away team locker room.
After a few more minutes Jack and Luke began walking out of the locker room in the same suits they wore heading into the game. Luke walked out holding out a singular rose with a blush spread across his cheeks.
“You weren’t kidding,” Ellen let out as Luke continued towards Y/N. She glanced towards his mom before she walked towards him.
She gladly took a hold of the rose as she gave him a hug, “I’m sorry about the game,” she mumbled as she pulled away. He shrugged before he pressed his lips to the side of her head before he walked over and met up with Jack and his parents.
“They’re disgusting,” Jack muttered as they continued towards the parking garage, Jim and Ellen laughed as they gave Luke a quick hug before they walked towards their cars.
~~~
She had stepped out of the shower, running her fingers through her hair as she started to walk towards the living room when she overheard Luke talking in his living room.
“You like her?” he asked his mom.
“Luke, she seems perfect for you. She’s a little shy like you but she makes you happy, right?” Ellen offered. Y/N smiled to herself, feeling her heart swell.
“You have no idea, Mom,” he let out with a huff of air.
Y/N walked away from the door towards the bed as she slowly laid down onto the mattress, she smiled to herself.
After another ten minutes, Luke snuck into the bedroom, a hoodie covering his body with a pair of black sweatpants. He shut the door delicately behind him, standing by the door he stared towards her with such admiration. She met his eye as she watched him pull his lips between his teeth.
“What?” she asked softly as he shook his head. He excitedly jumped onto the bed, she erupted in giggles as he submerged her body beneath his. “What are you doing?” she asked as he rested his head onto her chest. He slowly ran his hand up and down her side.
“I just feel like I haven’t seen you,” he muttered as he delicately pressed his lips against her exposed collarbone. Her hands slowly ran through his curls that were damp from the shower he took earlier after the game. “I miss being alone with you,” he muttered as he shut his eyes. She hummed as she delicately pressed her lips against his forehead.
Written by TMZ team
Her Royal Highness, Princess Y/n of Cambridge as well as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a surprise appearance at the Vancouver Canucks game last night.
The Princess has been on quite the anticipated tour, starting in Ottawa this past spring, heading east then ending in Victoria where she'll leave for later today.
Before the game the prince and princess had dropped the puck at the ceremonial puck drop, or rather not dropped the puck as Prince Harry had to be told to.
But it wasn't the prince's embarrassing story that's making headlines today, it's the Princess of Cambridge leaving with the Canucks captain, Quinn Hughes.
Hughes is an American hockey player, a couple years younger than our princess, but nonetheless we would love this couple together.
We know King Charles is never one to come become his children and love, we can only assume the King will be even more supportive than he was with the Duchess of Sussex. Hughes has never been married and on paper would make a great fit for our outgoing and adventures princess.
-
Quinn was on FaceTime with his brothers, they were in a hotel room in Michigan just having come back from their morning skate. Luke happened to go on his phone and see articles about his brother and the princess.
"Were you ever gonna tell us your dating a princess?!"
"We're not dating. That was my first time meeting her." The oldest said, rolling his eyes slightly, though his brothers ignored his obvious annoyance and continued their questions.
"And she came home with you?!" "Damn, Quinny!"
Rubbing his hand over his face, Quinn defends himself, "Shut up. It wasn't like that. We just talked, and got to know each other."
“Yeah? ‘Got to know each other’ how?” Jack said in his usual teasing voice with a smirk on his face.
“I don’t know, just talked- she’s coming out to Seattle in a couple days and-” “Shit! No way, dude.” Luke came into frame now, sitting next to Jack on the hotel bed. Jack elbowed Luke slightly, telling the boy to give him space before he looked back at Quinn on the screen, “And how exactly did you pull this off?”
“I have no idea, she was just waiting outside the dressing room after the game and asked me out. It was a little awkward ‘cause her security guys were right there the whole time.”
“In your apartment?” “No Lukey, outside the dressing room. They were outside the apartment the whole night though.” Jack’s head shot up at this, “She stayed the night?!”
“Yeah, but nothing happened. I’m not you.” “Fuck off.” “We talked all night and we watched a couple movies.”
Jack and Luke seemed to have got, maybe not exactly what they wanted, but got out all the questions they wanted to ask out.
First Game Day Apparence (Quinn Hughes x Famous reader)
In witch you and Quinn have been dating for a couple months and only your close friends and family know and today you are making your first public appearance together
The buzz in the arena was electric as fans filled the seats for one of the most anticipated games of the season—the Hughes Bowl. The Vancouver Canucks were set to face off against the New Jersey Devils, with the Hughes brothers—Quinn, Jack, and Luke—going head-to-head. But this game was particularly special, as it marked the first public appearance of Quinn and his girlfriend, Taylor Clark, a famous singer whose name resonated in both the music and sports worlds.
As the gates swung open, the cameras flashed, capturing every moment of the event. Quinn’s parents, Jim and Ellen Hughes, walked alongside Taylor, who was effortlessly chic in one of Luke’s jerseys—its oversized fit draping comfortably over her leggings. Her hair fell in sleek, straight strands, framing her face as she greeted fans and media with warm smiles.
“Look at you!” Jim exclaimed, nudging Taylor with pride as they made their way toward the suite. “You look great in that jersey.”
Taylor grinned, glancing down at the fabric emblazoned with the number 43. “Thanks! I figured it was appropriate for today,” she replied, her excitement bubbling just beneath the surface.
As they approached the suite, the cameras swarmed around them, capturing the trio as they walked. Taylor seemed at ease in the spotlight, waving at fans while also enjoying the company of Jim and Ellen, who beamed with joy at their son’s accomplishments and the excitement of the day.
Once inside the suite, they were greeted by more family and friends, the atmosphere filled with laughter and anticipation. The warm-up skated in the distance, and Taylor took her place among the family, cheering for both Quinn and his brothers. As the game approached, she found herself caught in the excitement, her heart racing with anticipation for Quinn’s performance.
The warm-ups began, and the big screen in the arena quickly zoomed in on Taylor, prompting cheers from the crowd. She waved enthusiastically, her energy infectious. Quinn, skimming the ice, occasionally glanced up at the suite. He spotted Taylor’s beaming smile and felt a surge of confidence wash over him. The warm connection they shared made him feel unstoppable.
“Look at her!” Luke chuckled from his spot beside Jack. “She’s totally cheering you on!”
As the game started, Taylor became a whirlwind of support for the Canucks. She jumped up from her seat, clapping and cheering as Quinn skated across the ice. Her laughter rang out, mingling with the sounds of the crowd, as she engaged in playful banter with Jim and Ellen.
During the game, she shifted between cheering for Quinn and supporting Jack and Luke. Every time the camera caught her laughing or cheering, it fueled the excitement in the arena. As Quinn took a shot and scored a goal, she leapt to her feet, her cheers echoing throughout the arena. “Yes! Go Quinn!” she shouted, her eyes sparkling with joy.
In a quiet moment between plays, Taylor leaned toward Ellen, sharing a laugh as they both pointed out Quinn’s latest move. Their bond felt natural, a blend of shared pride and joy for their boys on the ice. As the game progressed, she and Jim exchanged looks of concentration, both glued to the action.
However, the intensity of the game escalated, and in a sudden moment, Quinn was tripped by an opposing player’s stick, tumbling hard onto the ice. Taylor’s heart dropped, a rush of concern crossing her face as she instinctively leaned forward, her breath hitching. “Is he okay?” she whispered, her eyes wide with worry.
But then, just as quickly, Quinn popped back up, shaking it off with a confident grin, and Taylor exhaled in relief, a smile replacing her concern as she continued cheering for him.
“Way to go!” she called out, her voice strong and encouraging, capturing the spirit of the game.
As the final buzzer sounded and the Canucks secured their victory, the crowd erupted in applause and cheers. Taylor, with Jim and Ellen by her side, stood waiting eagerly by the area where the players would emerge from the locker room. Her heart raced, her excitement palpable as she anticipated Quinn’s arrival.
The locker room door swung open, and Jack and Luke emerged first, their expressions a mix of adrenaline and exhaustion. Taylor clapped for them, her cheers ringing out amidst the crowd noise.
“Great game, you two!” she shouted, her pride evident. Jack grinned, giving her a thumbs-up while Luke playfully flexed his muscles.
And then, Quinn stepped out, his expression brightening as he spotted Taylor. The moment felt charged, and he made his way toward her, his teammates trailing behind. Taylor’s heart raced as he approached, her smile wide and welcoming.
“Hey, superstar!” she beamed, and the cameras caught their interaction, flashing in a frenzy.
Quinn wrapped his arms around her, lifting her off the ground in a joyful embrace. “Did you see that goal?” he laughed, setting her down but keeping her close. The cameras clicked away, capturing every moment of their affectionate reunion.
“Of course! You were amazing!” Taylor replied, her eyes gleaming with admiration. The entire suite, including Jim and Ellen, surrounded them, and the family vibe felt warm and inclusive.
As they walked out together, the cameras continued to flash, capturing the moment. Taylor, Quinn, Jack, Luke, Jim, and Ellen strolled through the arena, smiles plastered across their faces as they embraced the chaos of their new reality. Taylor felt grateful to be part of this family, and she knew this was just the beginning of their journey together, both in public and in private.
And as they stepped into the world outside the arena, the bonds they shared felt stronger than ever, setting the stage for countless memories yet to be made.
November 9, 2019
Hayden yawned and took a sip of her coffee as she got off the highway. She had been driving for three hours to Alberta and had woken up really early so she could get there early in the day.
Luke had a tournament for the past week in Alberta and today was his last day and the only time she could get time to go see him.
Hayden has just played against the Devils the night and got to see Jack, Ellen and Jim for a little bit before they all headed out to Vancouver for Jack’s next game agonist Quinn.
Hayden luckily leaves for her away game tomorrow morning so she gets to spend the day with Luke and see him play.
Hayden pulled into the hockey rink and slipped on her black trench coat over her black pair of sweats and white hoodie with her green hat and green converse.
She slipped her phone and keys into her pocket and she walked into the rink and knew Luke had a early game and if he won he would be playing in the finals later tonight so either way they would still have the day together.
Hayden walked over to the rink Luke will playing on a in a few minutes and saw him warming up with him team off the ice before the Coach dismissed them before the game.
Hayden saw Luke and felt her shoulder’s loosen seeing Luke and being so close to him for the first time in months, “Lu!” Hayden called out and watched as Luke’s head snap up and he beamed when he saw Hayden standing there.
Luke rushed right over to her and hugged her so tightly that they almost both fell over.
Hayden let out a happy sigh and hugged him so tightly back, resting her head on the top of his head and she had a sad realization that he was taller than he was when she said goodbye to him a few months ago, “Look at you!” Hayden cooed as she pulled back from the hug and cupped his face looking at any changes that she missed, “You’ve gotten so tall!”
“You’re here!” Luke whispered in disbelief, he has had the worse few months being away from all three of his siblings for the first time and hated not seeing them every day but especially not seeing Hayden.
“You get for the whole day.” Hayden softly told him pressing a kiss to his forehead making Luke eagerly lean into her touch.
Luke beamed even brighter and clung to her. They heard Luke’s name being called from his coach and Luke frowned holding onto Hayden tighter not wanting to leave her yet.
“Hey you go play your game and i’ll be watching the entire time and i promise you i’ll be here after.” Hayden gently reassure her little shadow running a hand through his hair knowing it calms him.
Luke nodded slowly not looking happy having to leave Hayden and he hugged her once more beside rushing over to his team and down to the locker room.
Hayden watched Luke leave before walking away and getting a seat to watch his game.
Hayden couldn’t help but smile as she watched Luke get onto the ice and he immediately found her and was smiling and waving at her, she waved back.
“Are you Hayden?” The woman next to her asked with a kind smile.
Hayden looked away from Luke and at the woman narrowing her eyes slightly, she didn’t want to be recognized at the hockey tournament not wanting to take away anything from Luke, “I am.” Hayden answered hesitantly answered.
“Luke talks about you all the time,” The woman explained, “I’m Sharon my son Dylan plays with Luke.”
Hayden relaxed realizing it wasn’t a fan noticing her, “Ah Duker.” Hayden mused having heard all about Luke’s new best friends.
“Are you his sister?” Sharon kindly asked just curious what the relation was between Hayden and Luke as Hayden is all over the Hughes house and Luke talks about her always.
Hayden paused but nodded, “Yeah Luke’s my little brother.” She proudly said and it was true she has thought of the three as her siblings since she little and she knew her parents thought of them like their sons just as Ellen and Jim see her as their daughter.
Sharon nodded and smiled letting Hayden pay attention to Luke.
Hayden watched the entire game with a proud smile, she couldn’t be more of the player Luke is becoming and she can not wait to see what he will do in his career and knew he is going to become a very special player.
Hayden stood up and loudly clapped as Luke scored a goal and seeing Luke’s beaming smile at her when he noticed her cheering made her miss being able to be at his games more.
Hayden watched at Luke’s team won the game and would be going into the finals later tonight.
Hayden waited outside the locker room and talked with Sharon as they waited for the boys to come out of the locker room.
“Haydes!!!” Luke beamed rushing out of the locker room in his suit and ran right to Hayden and hugged her so tightly she grunted but hugged his back.
“Hey you.” Hayden fondly responded and kissed the top of his head, “You played so good!” Hayden praised him when they pulled back making Luke perk up from her praise. Luke stayed under Hayden’s arm curled into her side.
“You’re Hayden Blake.” Dylan Duke said shocked as he was walking behind Luke, He knows that Hayden is Luke’s sister but it’s shocking to see her as she was becoming a star in the NHL.
“It’s nice to meet you Dylan, Lu talks about you often.” Hayden spoke with a small teasing smile.
“Awww!” Dylan teased Luke making Luke roll his eyes at his best friend.
Hayden and Luke said their goodbyes and Hayden had gotten permission to take Luke for the rest of the day.
Luke and Hayden walked to her car and Luke looked around her new car looking at everything as he sat in the passenger seat.
“What are we feeling for food?” Hayden asked Luke as she pulled out her phone for direction to whatever he chooses.
“Chipotle?” Luke asked hopefully making Hayden laugh and shake her head fondly.
“Why am i even surprised.” Hayden said knowing how easily Jack and Luke would eat chipotle for every meal if they could, Hayden put in the directions and started the car.
“Okay. Tell me everything.” Hayden told Luke very seriously but with a teasing smile as she started to drive.
Hayden was so content listening to Luke just ramble the entire time as she drove.
Hayden and Luke got out do the car with a Hayden’s arm over Luke’s shoulder and he continue to talk to her as they walked into the food place.
Luke paused for a few minutes as they ordered but once they sat back down he continued to tell Hayden about everything while he stuffed his face.
Hayden was happily content to listen Luke as they finished up lunch and to back into her car and they headed back to Luke’s hotel and spend some time together until they have to leave for his last game.
Hayden kept her arm wrapped around Luke’s shoulder as they walked up to his hotel room and Luke opened the door letting them walk into the room.
Hayden gently pushed Luke to the bathroom to get changed into comfortable clothes as she took off her trench coat, hat and converse and plopped onto Luke’s bed.
Luke came out of the bathroom in sweatpants and shirt and jumped into the bed immediately cuddling into Hayden, missing when he could get cuddles from Hayden everyday.
Hayden ran her fingers through his curls that she knows makes him fall asleep and within in a few minutes Luke was fast asleep in Hayden’s arms.
Hayden spent some time on her phone doing some work and getting some things done before tossing her phone away and resting her head on top of Luke’s and falling asleep too.
Hayden rubbed her eyes as her alarm went off, she shut it off and gently rubbed Luke’s back to make him slowly wake up as he needed to get ready so they could leave for his last game.
Luke groaned and shoved his head farther into Hayden’s side not wanting to get up and have to be away from Hayden especially as he knew she was leaving in a few hours and he wouldn’t be seeing her till Christmas.
“Come on Bud.” Hayden soothingly spoke making Luke grumble and reluctantly sit up, “Go get dressed.” Hayden smiled as she poked her finger in Luke’s side making him squirm and laugh.
Luke laughed and stood up and headed into the bathroom.
Hayden slipped her shoes and hat back on and stayed on her phone till Luke came out do the bathroom and he was ready to levee.
Luke came out the bathroom and slipped his shoes on, “Ready?” Hayden asked and Luke nodded and tucked himself to Hayden’s side as they walked out of the room and through the hotel to her car.
Hayden drove them the quick drive back to the arena and they walked back inot the arena together.
Hayden pulled Luke into a hug and pressed a kiss to his head, “You are going to do great.” Hayden softly reassured him making Luke nod and let out a breath before he let go of Hayden and walked into the locker room.
Hayden went and found a seat and went on her phone until Luke and his team came out and the game started.
Hayden frowned slightly as the other team scored twice within in minutes and they were playing better than Luke’s team.
Hayden pursed her lips hoping the next intermission is better for Luke.
It wasn’t and the third intermission wasn’t any better either.
Luke got a silver medal in the tournament making Hayden frown at the sad look on her baby brother’s face.
Hayden walked down to the locker room leaning on the wall waiting for Luke.
Luke walked out slowly with a sad and defeated face, he walked right to Hayden and hide his face against her chest and sagged against his sister.
“Oh buddy.” Hayden mumbled sadly rubbing his back gently, “I’m proud of you.” Hayden softly told him knowing he probably doesn’t want to hear he played a good game when he just lost a huge game.
Hayden walked out with Luke clinging to her and hated that she had to leave him soon being so sad.
Hayden held her hand out once she sat in the car letting Luke be able to hold her hand as she drove them back to his hotel.
Luke was silent the entire time and once they got to the hotel he clung back to Hayden’s side as they walked to his room.
Hayden sent Luke to the shower once they got inside the room.
She looked at the time seeing it was already almost eight pm and she had to be back in Edmonton by the morning at eight am and it’s a three hour drive back and she planned to leave now but she knew she couldn’t leave Luke yet and would just get less sleep.
Hayden laid in the bed on her phone texting with Ellen letting her know Luke will be ok before she turned it off when Luke came out of the bathroom in sweatpants and oilers shirt she got him.
Luke stumbled into bed and hid his face on her shoulder holding onto her tightly as he knew she would be leaving soon.
“Wanna watch something?” Hayden softly offered knowing he won’t sleep for a while. Luke nodded and Hayden clicked on a movie on the tv.
Hayden and Luke watched the entire movie and when the end credits started Luke clung to her tighter.
“Do you want me to stay till you fall asleep or leave before?” Hayden gently offered Luke, not sure if he would want to wake up in the morning and she would be gone.
“Stay.” Luke mumbled his eyes already shutting close.
“Good night Lu, i love you.” Hayden softly told her baby brother kissing the top of head.
“I love you too.” Luke mumbled half asleep.
Hayden watched as his breathing evened out and his face relaxed and she didn’t have the heart to leave yet.
Hayden ended up just staying for another hour until it was already midnight and she knew she had to get back so she sadly let go of Luke and tucked a pillow into his arms.
She leaned over him and pressed a gentle kiss to his head, “I’ll see you soon bud.” Hayden whispered her voice thick with emotion not wanting to leave her little shadow.
Hayden grabbed her stuff and quickly got out of the room blinking so she didn’t cry as she hates leaving her family.
Hayden headed to her car and started the drive back to Edmonton.
“you’re on your own, kid.”
quinn hughes x f!reader
honestly i feel like this kinda makes no sense but oh well
‘summer went away, still the yearning stays. i play it cool with the best of them. i wait patiently, he’s gonna notice me. it’s okay we’re the best if friends, anyway.’
“congratulations on graduating kiddo,” jack smiles down at you as he places your graduation cap on his head. you give him an annoyed look, before luke comes running over to you and engulfs you in the biggest hug you’ve ever felt. your feet lift off of the ground and as luke spins you around, you see quinn giving you a small smile from afar. only you and quinn know what happened during winter break at the lake house, but you know the feelings are still there. as you walk over to him, quinn gets entrapped in a conversation with ellen and some of her friends. you let out a sigh as he begins walking towards his car, but you know you’ll see him the next day at you and luke’s shared graduation party.
a few of quinn’s teammates came back home with him for a little, so most of quinn’s night was spent with his friends instead of paying attention to the real focus. your graduation. “hey where’d quinn go?” you ask jack, the middle hughes boy who’s practically a brother to you.
“he went with some friends to the bar, i don’t think he’s drinking though,” jack shrugs, before rejoining the conversation he was once in.
‘i hear it in your voice, you’re smoking with your boys. i touch my phone as if it’s your face.’
as it reaches later into the night, the party slowly dies down and quinn is yet to return to his childhood home. you make the five minute walk down the street to your house, continuously checking for any notification from quinn. as you finally settle down in bed, your phone begins ringing. you roll over and see quinn’s contact photo fill the screen.
your lips lift up slightly and you slide to accept the call. loud music can be heard but it’s muffled, so he must be outside. “hello?” you croak.
“y/n, hey!” a drunken, and slightly high too, quinn mutters into the phone. you let out a sigh, and greet him back.
“congrats on graduating! guys say congrats to y/n!” he shouts to his other friends. a mix of male and female voice congratulate you, and your heart just shatters. quinn didn’t call you on purpose, he’s just intoxicated and bored. eventually you get off the phone and look at your lockscreen. it’s a picture of you and the boys as little children on the lake. in the picture, quinn is looking down at you with a small smile, while luke and jack argue next to you both. you and quinn have always been the quieter ones of the mix, something that helped you two bond.
‘i didn’t choose this town, i dream of getting out. there’s just one who could make me stay. all my days. from sprinkler splashes to fireplace ashes, i waited ages to see you there. i searched the party of better bodies, just to learn that you never cared.’
the only thing you hated about leaving michigan was leaving both luke and the memories. you hate everything else about this state. the petty, small town drama has never been an acquired taste of yours. although you’re only moving one state over, it still feels like a fresh start for you. luke starts college the week after you, so the hughes family decided they want to help you move into college. besides quinn. quinn flys back to vancouver today, even when he has a solid two weeks left of off season.
you sigh as you get settled in your dorm, with luke and jack sitting on your new bed next to you. they wrap their arms around you for a picture, which ellen sends to the group chat you’ve had going for years now. quinn just hearts the image, not even typing a reply. luke and jack see your disappointed visage, and squeeze you a little tighter on their way out.
you and quinn have always talked about your futures from a young age. his dreams of going to the nhl, and yours of getting into college. you guys vowed to support each other no matter what, and you appear to have been the only one who kept that promise. you sat through his draft and even visited him in vancouver for his nhl debut. yet he chose to fly back to vancouver, for god knows what reason, instead of staying one extra day to help you move into college.
as both of your families, biological and chosen, leave you in your dorm room, you let out a deep sigh. the small photo collage on your dorm wall is full of pictures of you and the boys, only making the big change even harder. the only thought running through your head is how quinn is on a plane to vancouver while you’re going on your own path too. although he’s older and in the big leagues now, you never realized he’d be leaving you behind. you can’t help but wonder if maybe winter break was a mistake.
‘you’re on your own, kid. you always have been.’
Note
it is me I am asking for more hughes children asg hcs pls (I am the original non and I loved it sm!!) what do you think the kids are like watching the actual 3v3 tournament?
hughes day <3
oh my gosh yay hey bestie!
so today the kids are obviously up in the box much to their annoyance
luke’s kids, since they’re so young, have a tough time saying goodbye to luke so by the time they’re up in the box, they’re a little pouty (but that’s nothing ellen can’t fix)
the pacific goes up against the atlantic first so the kids are obviously cheering for quinn (not that they don’t cheer when cole or brady score as well)
quinn and z (and briss, bords, matty idk what umich boys i said were there LMAO) all rack up a few goals which makes the kids scream loudly as they cheer with the crowd
the pacific wins by a landslide and the break in between games means snack time! the kids disappear from where y’all are sitting and come back a few minutes later with hands full of popcorn and candy which they reluctantly share with their moms
next up is central vs metropolitan and this one is serious
it’s a cutthroat game for the kids, they are strictly cheering for the metropolitan team (except for quinn’s one nate mack obsessed kid who secretly cheers every time he scores)
jack and luke also get quite a few points between them and it results in their team winning as well
now the real show begins, the hughes brothers are up against each other in the finals and oh boy, if that didn’t spark a fire in the arena
the kids restock their snacks before the final game begins and they actually make two trips so that the adults can all have their owen snacks (and stop stealing theirs!)
this game really divides the kids, obviously they’re all cheering for their own dad but that doesn’t mean they aren’t trying to get other cousins on their side
ellen and the moms have to remind them that they basically are obligated to cheer for both teams and they can’t really pick a side when the kids try to get them involved
the pacific division ends up winning and quinn’s kids are ecstatic, bouncing off the walls and rubbing it in their cousin’s faces that their dads lost
after everything is over, y’all head down to the locker rooms and the boys all come out and are just kinda hanging around and the kids just attack them with hugs
at this point, a lot of the guys know the hughes children so they talk to them quite a bit when they go into the locker rooms
AGAIN quinn’s nate mack kid is freaking out (i think this is my new favourite thing lmao i can’t stop thinking about it) and maybe he offers the kid a signed jersey, promising that he’ll talk to quinn about shipping it to them and all that
or maybe the avs are coming to vancouver like within the month so nate just promises that he’ll bring the jersey to that game and quinn’s like ‘bro no way my kids gonna wear ur jersey’ but doesn’t say anything, just smiles and nods
The Hughes Girl and Duke Boy - Tyler Duke
Part 1- the tournament
Today is the day i find out I’m going to the world juniors. I’m exited but nervous because guess what I’m a girl and the team i what to be on is the U18s Men.
I am in my hotel room texting my best friend Mackie Samoskevich. He knows how I’m feeling right now. The poor guy knows my life story. I hear a knock at the door of my room. I quickly get up and walk over to the door opening it. I see 2 men. one with a camera The other man with a phone.
He speaks up “Y/n we have a few people here who want to tell you something”
He shows me the phone and I see my Mom, Dad, and all 3 of my brothers Quinn, Jack and Luke. All on different rectangles as one is in Vancouver, New Jersey and College. Luke looks to have a few other people with him. The man hands me the phone.
“Hey Guys, what’s up” I say smiling at the phone.
“Hey y/n/n, we have some news for you. Boys you wanna tell her” My mom says.
“PACK YOUR BAGS BECAUSE YOUR GOING TO GERMANY” I hear all three of my brothers screech through the phone.
I look at the men and then the phone in disbelief. “Oh my god” I say excitedly and start softly laughing as my family celebrate.
After talking to the man about details on the ride to Germany. I go back into my room calling my brothers again because why not. I miss them.
I’ve kinda been avoiding Luke because he keeps bringing up College.
A few days later
I am all packed for the flight. The team and I did our training camp already in Michigan. I became close friends with Tyler Duke. My brothers best friend’s brother Dylan Duke. I also became friends with Logan Cooley.
I’m walking on the the bus after putting my gear and sticks under the bus. I get on the bus to see Tyler in the middle section I sit in the row across him kicking my legs up on the spare chair with my back against the window.
Sitting the same as him I give a little nudge to his foot that was hanging over the armrest at the end of the row. He looks up from his phone and smiles at me.
‘God that smile it was bright. No god y/n No’ I give a smile back. I soon look up hearing another person get on the bus I see Lane Hutson and Logan come on the bus Lane with a speaker. 20 minutes into the ride to the airport there was music blaring through the speaker.
My phone starts to go off and I look at the contact to find Luke’s name or contact name ‘Lookey Pookey’ he was not happy with that one. I answer the phone putting my AirPods on.
I look at my screen to find Luke and Dylan. I smile looking up at Tyler. I throw my empty bottle at him. He looked up with furrowed eyebrows. I hold up my phone mouthing. ‘Luke and Dylan’ he gets up and sits beside me  I give him one of my AirPods and rest my head on his shoulder as we talk to our brothers about everything and anything going on.
At the Airport
Tyler and I talked to our brothers the whole way. We are currently in the airport getting on to our flight me sitting beside Tyler. About 15 minutes into the flight I start to doze off. Tyler noticed and brought me closer to him so I could be comfortable.
In Germany
It’s been a bit hectic since we’ve landed. Once we got here we collected our bags and hockey identification badges. When we got to the bus we put our bags and sticks under the bus. The drive to the hotel was short. Arriving at the hotel the team and I trudge in with our hockey bags and other luggage. Tyler kept trying to take something off of me to carry I told him no. He ended up grabbing my sticks.
We are currently walking down the hall to our rooms them being next door to each other. Arriving at my room I open the door and walk in Tyler close behind.
“Where should I put these” he asks holding up my up my sticks. “Just put them on the bed please” I say throwing my bag on the chair in the corner. He places them on the bed then walking to the door. I walk up to him and kiss his cheek causing his cheeks to turn rosemary. “Thanks Ty” “No problem” he says with  before opening the door and walking out and towards his room. I close the door locking it and walking towards my bed sitting down on it grabbing my phone texting the family group chat that I had made it.
hi i saw that you were taking requests would it be possible for you to write a part 2 to the prompt 7 angst with jack hughes
here’s part one
eleven days.
eleven days had passed since you had last spoken to jack.
during those eleven days, his side of the bed had grown ice-cold, the box of cereal you kept stocked in your pantry specifically because he loved it had expired, and you had had a lot of time to think. a little too much time, in your opinion.
the boxes that were stacked up in every room of your apartment stood as a constant reminder of what was happening and what needed to be done. your lease expired in just under a week and it was too late to sign another one, your landlord had rather rudely informed you when you had called two days into this radio silence.
quinn had offered you one of the empty bedrooms in the house that he and jack had bought a few months prior, but you had vehemently opposed that idea, citing you didn’t want to be his glorified house sitter while he was in vancouver. that and the fact that even in the short amount of time that they had had it, you had amassed countless memories in the space, almost all of them with jack.
“where do you want these?” luke asks, freeing you from your thoughts. you turn your attention to the youngest hughes, whose balancing a stack of bowls that just so happened to be extremely breakable.
you open your mouth to scold him, but his mother beats you to it, quickly crossing the room to her son to take some of the bowls out of his hands, “luke, please be careful.”
“sorry, y/n,” he mumbles, face flushed as he follows ellen to where the box was sitting on the counter.
you hear your front door being pushed open and quinn rounds the corner with jim in tow, both of their arms filled with cardboard boxes because you severely underestimated how many you would need. you push yourself away from your perch on the counter and sigh, “thank you guys so much. what do i owe you?”
“it was like twenty bucks, y/n,” quinn smiles, grabbing for one of the bottles of water, “i’m not gonna miss it.”
“big hopes for that new contract, eh? haven’t even put the pen to paper,” luke teases and jim stifles a laugh. “can we order a pizza or something? i’m starving.”
“don’t you start training next week? pizza’s not great for ya, lukey,” you chirp, already reaching for your phone.
“hey, y/n?” quinn calls as you search for the number of the pizza place just down the street, “can i talk to you? outside?”
“sure?” the confusion is evident in your voice as you shove your phone in the pocket of your shorts and follow him out onto the patio. he leans against the railing and you join him, pulling the sleeves of your sweatshirt down to cover your hands, “is everything okay?”
“yeah, it’s just,” he sighs, rubbing his hands over his face before looking at you, “jack wants to talk to you.”
you raise an eyebrow, “he couldn’t tell me himself?”
“he figures that you blocked him. from what i understand, he didn’t even try,” he chuckles as he shakes his head, looking out across the street, “and today is-”
“i know what today is, quinn,” you nod, not needing him to say it. it had been on your mind all day, taking up residence somewhere far away where you had pushed it. packing up your apartment under so much uncertainty was not how you had planned to spend the day, but that was just how it had happened. “is he at the house?”
“yeah,” he pauses, “do you need me to go with you?”
“we don’t need a mediator quinn, but thank you,” you send him a soft smile and open your arms. you wrap them tightly around him and smile as he does the same to you, “for everything.”
you couldn’t put enough emphasis on how sorry you were that you had to leave, using the excuse of one of your friends having an emergency as your ticket out. you were sure that his parents weren’t buying what you were selling and that ellen would likely wear quinn down as soon as you left, but you tried not to think about it as you pulled the door to your apartment closed behind you.
the drive to jack’s was simple, twelve minutes exactly because you didn’t have to stop for a single light and the after-work traffic had pretty much died down. you pull your car beside jack’s and sigh, sitting there for a minute while you gather your thoughts.
lights illuminate the front porch and as you inch closer to the door, you notice the trail of flower petals that make a path into the house. you push open the door and call inside, “jack?”
“just follow the flowers!” you hear him shout and you obey, following the trail of petals down the hall, through the kitchen, and out to the backyard. you step out onto the and take a deep breath when you lay your eyes on jack for the first time in nearly two weeks. he has a bouquet of your favorite flowers in his hands and a shy smile on his lips, “hi.”
“hi,” you mumble, pulling the sliding door closed behind you. you take a step towards him and let your eyes wander around the deck, “what’s all this?”
“i mean, putting up with me for two years? that deserves some sort of celebration,” he responds, meeting you in the middle to hand over the bouquet, “happy anniversary, y/n.”
“i-” you take the flowers from him and sigh, “i don’t know what you want me to say, jack.”
his face falls and he shoves his hands in the pockets of his sweatpants, “you don’t like it?”
jack wasn’t a very romantic guy, so this? this was definitely him going out of his way, that was for certain. fairy lights had been wrapped around the entirety of the deck and the bean bag chairs from the game room had been dragged out to the center of the platform. behind them sat the projector which was already turned on and on the back of the house was the title screen of the movie jack had taken you to see on your first date just waiting to be unpaused.
“jack, did you think that i would forget about everything just because you did all of this?” he opens his mouth to speak, but closes it almost immediately after. you nod your head at his silent answer, “just because it’s our anniversary, doesn’t mean that we’re okay. we still have to talk about what happened.”
“i know,” he sighs, “do you wanna sit down so that we can talk?”
you let him take the flowers from your hand and watch as he carefully drops them into a vase. his hand rests on the small of your back as he walks you over to the beanbag chairs and you drop down into one, accepting the glass of wine he hands you. you take a sip and let your head rest on the back of the chair, staring up into the gleaming stars above you, “i’m not apologizing.”
“i don’t expect you to. i was the one that was out of line. the way that i acted was unacceptable and i see that. it’s just-” he pauses and you let your head roll to the side so that can watch him. he wasn’t staring at you, focusing instead on your fingers wrapped around the stem of your wine glass. his jaw was scruffy and his hair looked longer than when you had last seen him. his fingers twitch in his lap like they always do when he’s nervous and you can’t help but to reach out for him, curling your fingers around his and squeezing as an attempt to comfort him. “i’m younger than you, y/n. i knew that when we got together. you, you have your shit figured out. you’ve got your degree, you’ve got a job. you’re fully prepared to move halfway across the country for some twenty-year-old who doesn’t know what the fuck he’s doing.
“i know about you and quinn and i swear to god it doesn’t bother me. i know that whatever went on between the two of you is over and doesn’t concern me in the slightest, but it really got to me that night. you can have anyone that you want. you can have someone who can be around more, who can do nice things for you. i missed out on a lot of things that were important to you because of road trips and like i said, i’m just a kid. you deserve someone bet-”
“you better not be trying to break up with me,” you raise a threatening eyebrow, “because i won’t let you.”
he looks hurt as he utters his next sentence, successfully shattering your heart, “i don’t want to break up with you, but i don’t think i can be everything that you need, y/n.”
“jack,” you say, reaching over to set your glass down so that you wouldn’t spill it, “i mean this in the nicest way possible, but you have no idea what i need. if i didn’t want to be with you, i wouldn’t be. that’s what happened between me and quinn, we decided we were better off as friends. i don’t feel that way about you at all. i love you so much. i wouldn’t even consider moving to new jersey if i didn’t. you have made me rearrange my entire life and i couldn’t be happier.”
“y/n-”
“it’s my turn, jack,” you watch as he visibly swallows the lump in his throat before nodding, starting to play with your fingers as you continue, “if you really do want to break up, if that’s genuinely what your heart wants, i’ll do that because i want you to be happy but i promise you that it’s the last thing that i want. you know what i do want? everything we talked about over the last year: that road-trip to jersey in a couple of days, decor shopping, adopting a dog, getting to go to every home game and cheer you on in person, kissing you goodnight and telling you how much i love you at night beside you and not over the phone. that’s what i want, jack. not nothing at all. i don’t want us to be over.”
“i don’t want that either,” he mumbles, letting his eyes connect with yours. “i don’t want this to be the end.”
“then don’t let it be.”
he looks at you for a moment, letting his eyes drift down to your lips. you grin, leaning forward and pressing them to his. his hand slides over your hip and pulls you closer while you wrap your arms around his neck. he pulls away for a breath and rests his forehead against yours, “i really am sorry. there was no excuse for the way that i acted.”
“you’re forgiven, jack. it’s in the past now,” you plant a kiss to the corner of his mouth as you twirl a piece of his hair around your finger, “i can think of one way that you can make it up to me, though.”
he raises his eyebrows suggestively, letting his hands slide down a little lower than your waist, “oh yeah? how’s that, baby?”
“a haircut.”
Today’s the day.
Today’s the day where I part with my best friend, as he goes off to live out his dream of playing professional hockey in New Jersey and I go earn my degree at my dream school hours away. I always knew this day would come, where we would eventually go our separate ways. It’s harder than I would have ever imagined though.
Ever since the Hughes family moved in next door to my family, Jack and I have been inseparable. From teaming up to beat Quinn and Luke in street hockey, weekly movie nights, wearing his jersey at every NTDP home game, going with his family to Vancouver for his draft, to now standing with his family outside of the airport waiting to say goodbye.
I don’t even realize that tears are streaming down my face until Jack approaches me and goes to wipe them off my cheeks. He’s already said his goodbyes to his brothers, and his parents are traveling with him to help him get everything settled. So that means I’m the last one he’s saying goodbye to. I see everyone out of the corner of my eye walk a safe distance away to give us some privacy.
His face visibly winces at my distraught state.
“Y/n please don’t cry. You’re gonna make me cry soon.” He pouted.
“I’m gonna miss you so much.” I whimpered.
He immediately brought his arms around me into a hug. My arms went around his waist as I rested my head against his chest to hear his heartbeat one more time. Jack’s one arm was around my shoulders while the other was combing through the strands of my hair. I heard him let out a few sniffles before he rested his head on top of mine.
I don’t know how long we were standing there just holding each other, but we eventually break apart when we hear Mr. Hughes clear his throat, signaling we don’t have that much time left together.
“Oh, wait, I have something for you.” Jack rummages through his carry on bag in search of something. When he finds it, he reveals a velvet pendant box.
I furrow my brows at Jack confused on what he could have gotten me. He opens it up to reveal a beautiful sterling silver necklace. I gape a little and take a closer look, only to notice that in the center of the necklace there is the letter ‘J’.
This time I let out a little gasp and whisper out, “Jack.”
He gives me a shy smile before taking the necklace out of the box and motioning for me to turn around. I do just that, and I feel Jack delicately move my hair to one shoulder. He put it around my neck and began to clasp the two sides into one. A shiver ran down my spine when I felt fingers touch the exposed skin on my neck.
As I go to reach up and grab ahold of the 'J' now dangling from my neck, we hear the airport intercom announce one last warning for security check. I see Jack’s parents motioning towards us that they need to go. With Jack still behind me, I feel his breath hit the back of my neck as he murmurs into my ear, “Don’t forget about me, eh?”
I whip around to face him and look straight into his eyes as I utter out, “Never.”
He picks up his carry on bag and he gives me one last grin. I see him hesitate for just a moment before his head leans towards mine...
And he gives me a kiss on the cheek.
As he’s pulling away I hear the faintest “I love you,” that I almost miss over all the noise of the airport. But I heard it. And by the time I even process what just happened or get a chance to respond Jack and his parents are already half way through the security line.
Still holding onto the 'J' around my neck I continue to watch the Hughes’ make their way through security until they are out of my sight. Just before they round the corner, Jack looks back one last time and sees me watching. We both grin at each other, with the exception of tears still streaming down my face.
And there I decide to mouth out the words back to him,
“I love you too.”
Supernatural
Pitch by Eric Kripke August 30, 2004
I. TONE AND WORLD
In one sentence, this is X-FILES meets ROUTE 66. Two brothers, cruising the dusty back roads in their trusty 64 Mustang, battling the things that go bump in the night. But much more than that, it's a show about an obsession of mine...
Throughout the U.S., (especially the MIDDLE, where I'm from), we have a folklore, as uniquely American as baseball, as rich and varied as any world mythology, and almost nobody knows it. For instance, Robert Johnson sold his soul to the Devil, at an abandoned Mississippi crossroads, to be the world's greatest guitarist. But he died violently, poisoned at age 26, screaming about Hellhounds as he choked on his own blood. In the shadowy north woods of Minnesota, lives a creature named the Wendigo. Translated from Native American, it means "evil that devours.” It feeds on human flesh. And even today, dozens of witnesses say it's very real.
There are literally HUNDREDS of these stories and legends and urban legends. There are dark and dangerous things out there in the corners of our country. So here's a show that travels the diverse highways and byways of supernatural America. Black woods, ghost towns, those tourist trap mystery spots. Really, a show ABOUT our country-the bloody, beating heart of America.
Unlike X-FILES, this show isn't Vancouver rainy. It's brighter, more colorful, more VISCERAL, and more irreverent. The humor here is extremely important to me—but it has to arise from the characters and their attitudes. The characters can be funny, but the weekly stories have to be SCARY AS SHIT– I'm talking THE RING; how what you don't see is much more terrifying than what you do. I'm talking about making this series as scary as I possibly can, until you guys call and yell at me.
But I also want the tone to be GROUNDED. Where BUFFY, for example, felt HEIGHTENED, our show should feel like OUR WORLD, real-life America. With a darkness that bubbles and boils just beneath the surface. And I want to keep the weekly stories CREDIBLE- leave 'em with a question mark, the possibility of a rational explanation. Something early X-Files did very well.
Finally, I want this show to capture a certain SPIRIT. For one, that youthful electricity of dropping out and hitting the open road; the freedom of wide-open American spaces. But also, EVERY road trip story-from FEAR and LOATHING to Kerouac to The Odyssey, are inherently mythic quests, hero's journeys, real Joseph Campbell stuff. The way STAR WARS, LORD OF THE RINGS, and MATRIX are all the same story, with the same beats. So our series, too, is an epic hero's quest-- across the United States. Almost like a modern western, and our heroes are gunslingers. Or, as I like to call it - it's STAR WARS in TRUCK STOP AMERICA.
II. CHARACTERS AND FRANCHISE
Now, let's get into establishing our characters, and launching our franchise.
So if this is STAR WARS, meet LUKE SKYWALKER. SAM HARRISON, 21. Think Jake Gyllenhall, or Tobey Maguire. Smart, funny, handsome, maybe a little type-A. He just graduated Stanford with a 4.0, and now he's heading back down to L.A., where he lives with his Aunt and Uncle, he'll spend the summer clerking at a powerful law firm. And in the Fall... Harvard Law, thank you very much. Pedal to the metal, Sam is cruising the track to success. But, like all good Luke Skywalker heroes, Sam is vaguely restless. He tells his girlfriend, maybe he should drop everything this summer and blow off to Europe. But of course, he doesn't. He has too many responsibilities.
Sam's well adjusted, successful life, it's a real triumph, especially considering his background. Fifteen years ago, his dad JACK became increasingly dark and depressed. He drank. A lot. Until Mom and Dad were in a car crash. Dad was driving. He lived. Mom didn't. That triggered a schizophrenic breakdown in Dad. He swore that twisted, dark, horrific things caused that crash and took Mom away. And those same dark things were chasing after him. Dad was institutionalized. But he escaped. And disappeared.
Sam is ashamed of his tragic past. Hates his Dad, blames him for killing Mom, and NEVER, EVER talks about it.
Now, Sam's mythic CALL TO ADVENTURE, the events that will change his life forever, begin simply enough. When his big brother DEAN rolls into town. Meet DEAN HARRISON, 25, think Colin Farrel. If Sam's the good kid, Dean's the troublemaker. If Sam's Luke Skywalker, Dean's Han Solo. Charismatic and dangerous. Cocky confidence masking a troubled soul. Sam hated Dad, but Dean was older and remembered Dad in brighter days, and he worshipped the man. Sam buried his past and ignored it, but Dean was haunted by it, never quite got his shit together. Dean never went to college. Just sort of traveled around. In fact, Sam hasn't heard from Dean in almost 3 years, which Sam clearly resents.
And now... Dean makes Sam a proposition. Let me drive you down to L.A.- it's just one day, we'll get a chance to catch up a little. Reluctant, Sam agrees.
At first, they're enjoying the electric, carefree pleasures of a ROAD TRIP. Top down, radio blaring, singing their lungs out to AC/DC.
But then... at twilight... on an empty stretch of highway... Dean's driving. And he has to make a confession. (Though I'm sure we'll break this up into a few different scenes.) "Sam. There's something I need to tell you," Dean says. “I went looking for Dad. And I found him. Took just about every dime I had, but I found him. And I've been with him, for almost 2 years." Sam is shocked and betrayed: "what?! Why didn't you tell me?!" But Dean continues: "listen. I know this is hard to believe. But Dad WASN'T nuts.
Tumblr media
                                                                                                                    3
Demons really DID kill Mom. Dark, awful things WERE following Dad. I know. Because I can see them. Because they're following me, too."
Obviously, Sam is BEYOND freaked and well aware that schizophrenia is hereditary. Dean goes on, getting worked up-“so Dad figured out how to kill these things, and he showed me how. Until they caught up to us in Baker. They got Dad. Before I got them." "What do you mean, you GOT them?” asks Sam. “I killed a demon. In human form," says Dean. “You killed somebody?!" "No, I killed a DEMON, it only LOOKED human.” (Which could be a scary, visceral teaser, by the way.) Anyway, DEAN continues: “Listen to me, Sam... it was Dad's wish, his DYING WISH, that I find you, that I teach you the way he taught me.” At this point, Sam goes into placating, survival mode. “Okay. Sure. Just calm down." But Sam's terrified-of his own brother.
Meanwhile, as this conversation's going on, Dean isn't going to L.A. He takes a detour-- for all intents and purposes, kidnapping Sam. They pull into a small, faded, all-American town in Central California. It's 1950's American optimism gone to seed. Basically, they pull right into the pilot's SELF ENCLOSED B-STORY. Whatever it is, the story should be simple, giving us room to focus on the brothers. It should be based in Folklore. And it should be personal—the job their father never completed.
Now, here's an example of exactly the kind of story I'm talking about. The real life ghost story of the "Weeping Woman," a sobbing wraith in a bloody white nightgown. She murdered her children by the river side, as revenge against her unfaithful husband. And today, it's said she lures unfaithful men to the river and drowns them. And sure enough, several MEN in this town have turned up dead by the river's edge. Anyway, something like this. And Dean, despite his smart ass jokes and references to the movie Poltergeist, seems to be taking this SERIOUSLY.
But Sam doesn't believe a WORD of it. First moment he's alone, he calls his Aunt and Uncle. “I'm with Dean, I think he's sick.” They tell him—"cops in Baker found your Dad's body. And a truck driver's body, too. Dean's the suspect. You have to get away! Where are you?!” But before Sam can answer-he pivots, right into Dean. Who grabs the phone, SMASHING it, furious: “Dammit, Sam, I'm not insane," Dean says, “Caspar the unfriendly fucker is really out there!"
Then, as Dean delves deeper and deeper into the ghost story, dragging a reluctant Sam along with him... INEXPLICABLE SUPERNATURAL phenomenon begin to occur, which SERIOUSLY RATTLES Sam. We'll have several good, scary set pieces. And soon, Sam doesn't know WHAT to think. And in the B-STORY'S climax, he'll even save Dean at some crucial point. (Though we'll be careful to leave things open ended, with just the possibility of a logical explanation.)
Afterwards, a beat in which Dean, vulnerable, says to his brother-"I've been thinking. And you're going home, Sam. You're smart, and you've got everything going for you. I don't care what Dad said, I can't let you live like this... Still," says Dean, "it was nice having you around. When you're with somebody... you just don't feel as crazy as
Tumblr media
                                                                                                                   4
often." Sam's very conflicted, and he feels awful, but he can't just abandon his old life. So the brothers part ways. Sam hitchhikes up the road. Meanwhile, thanks to his Aunt and Uncle, the cops have been searching for Sam, and now they find him.
At the station, Sam tells the cops, Dean's in Colorado by now. But a patrol car has spotted Dean's parked Mustang at a nearby motel. The police grab SHOTGUNS, they're going to take Dean with force. And in the face of ONE PASSING COP, Sam sees-a glimpse. A shimmer. Something DEMONIC and INHUMAN flashes across the cop's face-and then it's gone, just as quick. Did Sam imagine it? Is he going insane, too? Or is Dean really in danger? Are dark, awful things really after him, like he said?
This is Sam's crossroads moment. And he makes a decision-he takes off. Steals a car. Beats the cops back to Dean. Warns him at the last minute. It's very TIGHT and very HECTIC, but Sam and Dean get away. Escaping by the skin of their teeth.
As we leave Sam... he doesn't know if he's losing his mind. He doesn't know if Dean's a hero or a homicidal schizophrenic. All he knows is-Dean's his brother, and he needs help. And for now, that's enough.
III. THE SERIES ITSELF
I think the overall GOAL here, is building an engine that gives us SELF ENCLOSED STORIES. I am gonna pitch some very simple mythology, but STAND ALONES are a format I really believe in, they're the shows I loved and grew up on. Like the best EARLY episodes of X-FILES.
So basically, our two heroes, avenging their parents' death, cruise the golden backroads of America-picture chrome diners and bucolic farms and dusty Route 66 towns. Places that are mythic and American, but also haunting, in a way. Places where horror can strike in broad daylight. Sam and Dean are kind of like classic gunslingers, or dragon slayers, finding-and KILLING—the monsters of American folklore.
So first question-how do they find the damn things? Dean tracks these creatures in a low-tech way. He scans obituaries for strange deaths. Dean also has a loose network of contacts - defrocked ministers and trailer park psychics, who impart information to our heroes whenever necessary.
Second question-how do they KILL the damn things? The answer—they have no fucking idea. They're outgunned and desperate and in completely over their heads. They don't have a WATCHER, like in BUFFY. They don't have an OBI WAN. They're on their own. Each week, they gotta figure out what the hell they're dealing with, and how the hell to kill it. And a lot of the time, they're wrong, and they have to improvise. Whether it's finding a ghost's remains - and burning them into dust; or loading a shotgun with silver buckshot, our guys will do whatever it takes to get the job done.
Anything but Mine: Wedding? Daily life routines? MORE FLUFF ~J
UGH DANIEL AND FLORENCE ARE THE OWNERS OF FLUFF YO yall don’t even KNOW.
I haven’t finish writing the wedding yet, but I will definitely post that when it’s done because it is the softest thing omg it gets me good
But here’s their proposal! Imperfectly perfect which I think sums them up really nicely...
Wednesday, December 29, 2021
The winter night was cold, and Florence hugged her arms around herself as she trekked across the backyard to the fire-pit near the back fence of Daniel’s childhood home in Vancouver, Clementine and Penelope asleep upstairs after a full day of playing in the snow. Daniel already had the fire started when she approached and he smiled when he saw her, standing up from tending to it as it grew nicely now. It warmed up their little area of the backyard nicely and she curled her arms around his waist, resting her head against his shoulder, peppering kisses along his neck and finally pushed her lips against his. He hummed contently against her mouth, pulling her arms off his waist to link their fingers together, before breaking their chaste kiss. He smiled at her and pulled her gently after him to the large outdoor couch, a blanket he must have brought from inside already thrown over it and he sat them down, draping the large blanket over the two of them. He pulled her legs over his lap before setting his arm around her shoulders.
“You warm enough?” he asked quietly.
“Yeah.” Florence smiled up at him, cuddling into his side. They fell into silence, watching the fire flicker and twist through the cold air in front of them.
“You did amazing today.” Daniel finally spoke.
“Did not.” Florence scoffed. “I was on my ass more than my feet.”
“Snowboarding is not easy.” Daniel chuckled. “But that one faceplant you did? Artistry.”
“Shut up.” Florence laughed, giving him a playful shove. He rested his head on hers, holding her close with a peaceful smile on his face, hand finding hers over her shoulder, his other set gently on her thigh.
“You like it here?” he asked quietly.
“Yeah. It’s beautiful.” Florence whispered, running her thumb over his slowly.
“My family’s glad that you came out.”
“I am too.” Florence smiled up at him. “They’re so lovely.”
“Where do you think I get it from?” Daniel joked.
Florence chuckled, shaking her head lightly, and leaned into him, setting both her hands over his under the blanket.
“You were so nervous.” He whispered, “I think that was the most nervous I’ve seen you.”
“I don’t have a good experience with parents.” Florence said.
“I know. But not all parents are as insane as yours.”
“Yeah. I know that. I mean, Michael and Luke are heaven sent. I guess I’ve just been so accustomed to parents judging my every move that I was making myself so worked up.” Florence traced his fingers with hers, keeping her eyes down, but he kept his on her, watching her furrowed expression as she fell deep in thought.
“What are you thinking about?” Daniel asked, brushing her hair back from her face.
“What my life would be like if I moved back to LA with my family.” Florence breathed.
“And? What would it be like?”
Florence looked up at him, “Miserable.”
She pushed a hand through his hair before falling to his cheek, running her thumb over his soft skin. “Because I wouldn’t have you.”
Daniel smiled warmly, leaning in to kiss her softly. She pulled back to curl into his neck, draping her arms around his shoulders to keep him close.
“I’m so in love with you.” she whispered; eyes focused on the crackling fire in front of them. “I swear I fall more in love with you every day. I don’t even know how that’s possible.”
She could feel Daniel’s heavy heartbeat under her palm, but he stayed quiet, resting his head against hers, his grip tightening a little on her thigh, and his leg starting to bounce restlessly a little.
She raised her head from his shoulder, “You okay?”
He met her gaze but dropped it to his lap quickly, clearing his throat nervously.
“Dani?” Florence said slowly. “What’s wrong?”
“I wasn’t going to do this now but…” Daniel ran a hand through his hair before gently shifting her legs off of his lap and stood up. He ran his palms nervously over his thighs before slowly sinking down on one knee. Florence figured it was another one of his late night, overly tired, haphazard proposals that he had repeatedly offered her since the very first night they met; but when he pulled the black velvet box from his sweater pocket, she could have sworn her heart stopped for a moment. Daniel opened it slowly to reveal the small diamond ring set in the soft velvet and he reached to take her hand in his other.
“Oh, Daniel.” Florence breathed.
“You’re my whole world, you know that? Christian’s teasing wasn’t wrong…it’s always been you…from the moment I saw you at that stupid frat party I knew that you were too special to let go. And I know I’ve said it way too many times – enough times that you probably can’t even take me seriously anymore. It was always too early or…whatever…but I feel it for real right now. I don’t love anyone the way I love you and I’ve never felt this sure about anything before. I want to spend the rest of my life with you and our two beautiful girls. Please say you’ll marry me?”
Florence couldn’t seem to form words, flicking her gaze between the small box in his hands and his wide eyes that shone in the firelight.
“For real this time.” Daniel said. “Please.”
Florence felt tears welling in her eyes and she nodded quickly, her words abandoning her.
“Y-You’re nodding. Is that a yes?” Daniel stammered.
“Yeah.” Florence laughed lightly, breathlessly, pulling him up by the front of his sweater to kiss him.
“Oh gosh.” Daniel breathed against her lips, sitting back beside her in the process. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders and pulled him close, letting a soft sob fall into his neck.
“I love you.” He said, his voice trembling with emotion, sighing with the breath he didn’t know he was holding, holding her tightly in his arms.
“I love you.” Florence whispered, holding her hands to his cheeks and pulling him in for another soft kiss. They looked down between them to the open ring box and Florence offered her hand.
Daniel, with shaking hands, pulled the ring from the box and took her hand in his other, “I’m sorry it’s small…it’s all I could afford…”
“Don’t say that. It’s perfect.” Florence said quickly as he slid it on her left ring finger. “It’s beautiful.”
“I can save up for a better one if you want. I won’t be offended, I promise, I really want you to…”
“Dani, stop.” Florence laughed, holding his face in her two hands to make him look at her. “It’s perfect. You’re perfect. I love you.”
He smiled softly, the firelight casting flickering shadows over his blushing face and he pulled her in by her waist, wrapping his arms around her as he leaned back against the couch. She shifted a little to curl into him more comfortably, laying her head on his shoulder, tucking the blanket around the two of them.
“Your heart’s beating so fast.” Florence whispered, pressing her palm to his chest.
“Wonder why that is.” Daniel replied softly, his arm over her shoulder brushing her hair back from her face with a smile. She looked up at him and smiled softly, pressing little kisses over his jaw until he tilted her head up by a finger under her chin and kissed her slowly. Her hand fell to the side of his neck to keep him close, letting him part her lips with his own, humming pleasantly into his mouth.
“Who knows?” she asked in between heavy kisses.
“No one.” Daniel whispered, sitting back a little, a hand set on her waist, fingers twisting around the material of her sweater.
“At all?”
“At all.” Daniel nodded. “Not even Mum or Jack and not even the babies.”
“Well Clementine couldn’t keep a secret even if you bribed her.” Florence whispered.
Daniel laughed but agreed, pulling her in by the front of her sweater to lay against his chest.
“I don’t want to tell people yet.” Florence breathed.
“Why?” Daniel asked through a frown.
“I want to keep it as our little secret for a bit. Something just for us.” Florence said, tracing his fingers with hers in the cold air.
“Okay.” Daniel smiled softly, linking his fingers in hers and bringing them towards him to press a kiss to the back of her hand.
They sat quietly by the fire, wrapped up in each others arms on the cool December night.
Filming in Vancouver: Johnny Depp, When Calls the Heart, and Eggplant Emoji
Johnny Depp will wrap up production on Richard Says Goodbye this week.
Like the Andrea Bocelli song, it’s time to say goodbye.
This week, we prepare to bid adieu to a major Hollywood star and his production that’s been filming here. Not to mention the surprise appearances he’s been making around town.
But a new Hollywood film is starting up, and a TV drama-romance begins filming its latest season so—as always—there’s plenty more to look forward to.
Let’s take a look at what’s going on here in Hollywood North.
First up, the Netflix comedy Eggplant Emoji starts shooting today (August 21) and will continue until October 2.
Directed by Jake Szymanski (Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates), it’ll be produced by Ben Stiller (Zoolander 2) and the Workaholics gang: Blake Anderson, Adam Devine, Anders Holm, and Kyle Newacheck.
Ben Stiller
With those comedic talents producing, and that dinky little title, you should have some idea of which general direction this is headed in.
The story follows the painfully awkward misadventures of a teenager who accidentally chops off his wiener (and we’re not talking hot dogs) during a camping trip. Comedy somehow ensues as his friends rush to save his organ before it’s too late. Hmm. And ouch.
The cast includes Daniel Doheny, Luke Spencer Roberts, Eduardo Franco, Sadie Calvano, and Geraldine Viswanathan.
Johnny Depp
Okay, so now it’s time to say goodbye to the comedy-drama Richard Says Goodbye, which calls it a wrap on Friday (August 25).
The film, written and directed by Wayne Roberts (Katie Says Goodbye), started shooting back on July 25.
This period piece stars Johnny Depp as a college professor who changes his outlook on life when he receives an unexpected diagnosis. Throwing all conventions out the window, he begins to live impulsively.
The cast includes Danny Huston, Rosemarie DeWitt, Zoey Deutch, Devon Terrell, and Odessa Young.
Much to the thrill of fans, Depp has made a few surprise appearances around town during his downtime.
When he appeared in downtown Vancouver on July 25, he posed with and greeted numerous fans.
During one of his days off from filming, he dressed up in his Captain Jack Sparrow costume from the Pirates of the Caribbean to spend almost six hours visiting with patients, from newborns to teenagers, at B.C. Children’s Hospital on August 14.
Patients at BC Children’s Hospital were delighted by a visit today with one of the world’s most famous pirates, Captain Jack Sparrow. Actor Johnny Depp showed he has a heart of gold by spending more than 5 hours meeting one-on-one with every patient, from newborns to teens. . . #jacksparrow #captainjacksparrow #johnnydepp #mybcch #bcch #vancouver #yvr #piratesofthecaribbean #disney #pirate #potc #potc5 #disneypiratesofthecaribbean
He attended a special pirate party and made one-on-one visits in the oncology, general pediatrics, and neurology units.
“Meeting Captain Jack was a dream come true for my daughter,” Sarah Kertcher, mother of 7-year-old Madison, stated in a news release from the hospital. “He never broke character once and was so generous with his time. He was truly here for the kids and it brought tears to my eyes to see how special he made each one feel.”
On that heartwarming note, there’s more news to warm the cockles of your Hearties.
When Calls the Heart
The Canadian-American TV period drama When Calls the Heart starts up production on 10 episodes of Season 5 on Tuesday (August 22) and continues until December 12.
Erin Krakow
Set in the early 1900s, the storyline, based on the novel by Janette Oke, revolves around Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a school teacher from a wealthy Eastern family, who relocates from a big city to Coal Valley, a small mining town in Western Canada.
Daniel Lissing
The cast includes Daniel Lissing, Lori Loughlin, Jack Wagner, Martin Cummins, Pascale Hutton, and Kavan Smith.
A two-hour sneak peek of Season 5 will air during Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas programming line-up, which will run from October 27 to January 1, 2018.
A specific date for the Christmas special hasn’t been announced yet but here’s a description from Entertainment Weekly:
“A loved one returns, Christmas spirit is renewed, and children’s wishes are granted in this heartwarming Christmas movie featuring the series’ beloved characters. Elizabeth’s fiancé, Jack, surprises her, coming on home on leave and bringing a young Mountie desperately searching for Christmas inspiration.  The community of Hope Valley works together to aid this young man with the help of an enchanted Wishing Tree. And as mayor, Abigail is pretty busy. Recognizing that, her newly adopted son, Cody, engages classmates in creating the town’s annual Christmas Celebration. While Sheriff Bill Avery forges a relationship with the disgraced former mayor, Henry Gowen, Rosemary and Lee are reminded that family is the true meaning of Christmas.”
Later on, Season 5 will premiere in February 2018 so there’s a bit of a wait. But as they say, absence makes the Hearties grow fonder.
When Calls the Heart
We’ll leave you with that for this week, but tune in again next time for more on what’s filming on the streets of Hollywood North.
