also final word on this probably- I *like* Joyce Messier a great deal as a character. I think she's cool and interesting. I find it fascinating that she tends to approach things very bluntly. the words she uses and the manner in which she analyzes things, this is sort of an instance of a character who knows exactly *what she is* and articulates it in a manner congruent with the writers of the game. she is, as she says wryly but honestly, "a bourgeois woman". i cant think of too many rich people who would without prompting and prodding, self identify with marxist social taxonomies in this way, even with a thin veil of ironic self deprecation. She's educated. she knows the words and the motivating logics of class analysis. and shes *cool*. harry picks that up. honesty is cool. bluntness is cool. cynicism is cool. she is quite open about her place in the world and how she conceives of it. unlike a lot of other powerful figures in the game, i dont think shes completely swallowed by self justifying rhetoric the way, say, sunday friend is. or she is up to a point. she knows about countercultural movements and she has affinities for them and is also aware that they inevitably are consumed by capital. (this, by the way, is kind of complex in that like. ok its a depressing reality but also i think if the de team was fully bought into that line of thinking, they would not make this game. it is telling that joyce of all people would critique cindy on the basis of capital subsuming revolutionary art. I dont think joyce is wrong per se, but i think she is drawn to that line of thinking because it is *very comforting for someone of her class position to dismiss the value and power of revolutionary art and critique of capital* just a thought) She's disgusting in that her power is not rightfully hers. her position is not rightfully hers. she is actively repressing and oppressing others in service of disgusting, semi-fascistic, hypercapitalist forces. shes enjoying the comforts and benefits that such a role allows her. shes disgusting shes frustrating shes profoundly arrogant (as her clash with evrart claire proves definitively). Her self satisfied idiocy is what allows her to play with fire and foolishly assume she cannot be burned. She's smart but her comfortable position puts the blinders on her and so she's also pretty fucking stupid. and shes also deeply deeply sad. I empathize. I pity her. She's so fucking sad. I don't think she is drawn to self medication and self destruction through constant pale exposure or all that rueful nostalgic rumination for no reason. She knows what she is to the world and she knows what she's doing and she's too cowardly and comfortable and self interested to change, but she's too self-aware to ignore it completely. I think she probably dislikes herself to some degree and i think its destroying her. Like most of the cast of the game, she's complex and deeply human. She's hateful, but I also think she is too well realized to hate, at least not for me.

upon rewatching the first season of stranger things, joyce is the best one. season one joyce solos literally every other character

I’ll never get enough of the Welt Joyce OST and I can't help but want to analyse and brainrot about it one more time here.  

I see this OST as one of the great examples of remarkably rich and proper storytelling through the melody that is so short but oh has so much in it to talk about. It’s a melancholic, heroic and tragic melody that can be divided into three parts – somber tangled beginning, emotional harmonized middle part with a sense of tension to it and its graceful longing release in the end. 

So, this is a story about a soulful conversation between cello that carries the main melody and a gentle piano with its soft echoing voice that plays the role of cello’s thoughtful listener and responder. Initially, the cello brings in this grievous heavy melody, while the piano searches for common ground, exploring deep melancholic notes that gradually elevate the cello’s voice to a brighter tone. This is where they finally harmonize with one another and this is where the middle part starts. 

It starts with a sense of hope and descends into despair and intense urgency. At first, the ticking sound in the background creates a space and a texture of passing time in the melody. However, it evokes a comforting atmosphere as the two instruments blend together into this flourishing radiant and tender union. Then, the cello’s legato and vibrato heightens the emotional intensity of the story, tugging at the heartstrings, while piano struggles to keep up with the cello’s pace and volume, therefore it returns to the pattern of the beginning part- it repeats the cello’s voice and is trying to find their common ground once again and grab onto it.  

In the end, they share their last conversation. Unlike the heavy, melancholic tone of the beginning, this time the cello's voice is calmer and more confident, a heroic one, yet still bittersweet and longing. At last, the piano responds with a fragile somber voice before letting the cello to have the final word in the story.

never forget that Joyce, Hopper, and Murray took Alexei to the hospital after he was shot and he recovered entirely besides a little scar and he became an american citizen and now he lives with Murray and he drinks a lot of (cherry) slurpees and watches a lot of cartoons and keeps his stuffed Woody Woodpecker on his bed and every so often he calls Robin so she can practice her Russian and he can practice his English and he loves the kids and sends them money Murray hid (albeit not well) “specifically for emergencies” on their birthdays and he goes to joyce and hopper’s for dinner every other sunday and everyone calls him uncle alyosha and he and dustin build “machinas” together and he helps El with her math homework and

i love bisexual eddie munson, but specifically in like a shang from mulan kind of way, you know? like he knew he liked boys, that made sense. just another way he’s different from everyone else, just another reason he’s a freak. so why bother examining it? he’s gay, hawkins hates him, might as well lean into it. maybe chrissy was the first time a girl made him feel butterflies (or bats?) in his stomach, and it confused him so bad he didn’t know what the hell to do about it except make a fool of himself flirting with the queen. maybe he took one look at nancy wheeler with a sawed off and went “yeah ok holy shit i get it, i see why steve was willing to burn his life down for her and why robin keeps making moon eyes at her and why jonathan lost his mind and pointed his camera through steve’s window like an insane person.” like he’s still into steve, obviously. the man is swanning about shirtless and bloody in an apocalyptic wasteland like the embodiment of all of eddie’s weirdest fantasies, there’s no way he’s not into steve. but i just love the idea of eddie being the one going through an Upside Down sexuality crisis (TM) rather than steve. what is happening to him?? why does he suddenly want to kiss everyone??? get it together munson you are running from a goddamn mob!!!

I REALLY REALLY REALLY need A LOT screentime for Jonathan Byers in season 5

Story began from Byers's family and their drama – and let's be honest Jonathan never had so much time in show like in season 1 (maybe in season 2 but still not a lot as in the beginning). Yeah he had some moments in season 3. Yeah we knew about his troubles in season 4 and he had sweetest dialog with Will but again – his storyline is pretty small.

He and Joyce need a talk. In S 3&4 Joyce was about her story with Hopper and "I need to know what kind of shit happens" but not about her kids – and mostly this part about Jonathan. He's still parentified boy who choose to stay in Lenora because family need him. And Joyce should clearly told him that he doesn't need to put all this responsabilities about her, Will and El.

And yeah all Jancy stuff. These two also need a talk about their future and their troubles. If they stay together after this – I'll be happy. If they break up and go diferent paths – I'll be okay with this and accept this because these two deserved to be happy. And Jonathan with Nancy and Joyce should fully understand that he's not alone, he can made his own dreams come true and he's not like his father (and never become someone like him).

And yeah – he has the biggest chances to die (he's not so popular (maybe one of the least favourite character in main cast) and ST fanbase will not be angry for this) and... I don't want it.

Because he deserved to live for himself that he want (and maybe go to NYU)

hawkeye pierce is such an odysseus. like his entire thing is that he WANTS TO GO HOME. my man just wants to go home to see his loved ones but can’t because the powers that be are making it impossible (hawkeye’s is the us military and odysseus’s is the gods) by throwing just off-the-wall obstacles at him. and along the way he just keeps losing everybody.

not to mention he is a clever trickster who totally would’ve played the “nobody” joke on frank if he could’ve found a way.

also odysseus was a reluctant draftee into the trojan war too (he tried to get out of it by feigning madness through salting the earth of his farmlands).
