me @ me ooh he does bleed. quite a bit. that's a whole squirt right there, not just at the moment she rips it but continuing as he staggers back.
harp dream sequence sound effect as I recall how there's unexplained arterial spray type blood stains in the rainbow room even though that's not consistent with any of the bodies we were shown and severed arteries are not typical of being Vecna'dTM nor of the lab guards' go-to methods of force
#not suggesting vecna is the only possible origin of any/all arterial sprays ever produced#just interesting that we see him do it onscreen. similar to how it's interesting we see el with bloody hands#never noticed the extended bleeding before! need to brighten my video player 400% to not miss details like this#random observations#vecna

wtf has Will taken from el that she has had to grit her teeth and bare...
Her physical safety, for one. El is always cleaning up some mess that he got dragged into, at the expense of her own safety. Over and over and over.
He also spent the beginning of ST4 caught up in his own resentment and jealousy of El's relationship with Mike...regardless of the fact that Mike was going to be there a WHOLE week...Don't worry, bucko! You'll get your Mike time. You don't need to be bitchy towards the girl you've owed your life to three times over.
And, controversial take incoming, he also took away her voice and autonomy in MIleven circa S4—specifically in the van scene.
The van scene was not...generous, by any definition. Will used El as a shield so he didn't have to face his own insecurities, and he put words in her mouth re: her feelings about Mike because he was too insecure about his queerness showing to go "Hey, I made this for you. Y'know. Like I do with literally every other fucking friend I have. Like Dustin, with his framed artwork of mine that hangs above his bed. And the binder of art you already have from me. See how I made you the leader? It's because I think you're a good leader :) Hope you like it!"
No, it's gotta be El who thinks all this. Regardless of how she actually feels. But no, no, go ahead and use her as a shield. And yes, yes, everyone will praise it as generous because you're "giving" Mike to her, like Mike is some toy you're both competing for at a carnival game.
Not to mention that whole conversation being what spurs Mike into missing the mark in his monologue, which definitely aided in El not being able to save Max on the first try. A+, Will. Immediate karma for your lie, but it's not you who pays that immediate price. El suffers once again (not to mention Max. And Lucas) and you get to reap the benefits (miIeven breakup, El lowkey blaming Mike for everything that went wrong even though he was working off bad information...thus Mike now has more time for you :) and many more). And yes, El is expected to continue sacrificing on your behalf.
Also, it's bear. Not bare. Bare means uncovered. As in bare-naked. El grins and bears it all.

Im sick of people painting billy as a bad guy, this fandom act like he's just randomly mean because he's a bad person not caring at all he his dad abuse him and yes he mae some choices that arent good but everyone else gets a pass when there acting out from there pain but not him, if you want to blame people for their own abuse fuck off
I'm in no way blaming Billy for being abused?? no one deserves that.
I understand that he's overwhelmingly driven by the pain from his abuse. that drives lots of characters on ST, and many of them make bad choices as a result, beloved protagonists included. we can certainly sympathize, I don't begrudge anyone that in the slightest. but they're still each responsible for their own choices about what they do with their pain.
I don't see Billy as inherently a bad guy in his heart, or that he was unforgiveable or forever set in his ways. the Billy we knew was only a teenager and still actively suffering the abuse that shaped him in the first place. we were shown that he was a decent kid before the trauma. he probably would've been a decent teenager without it. if only he had lived just a little longer and moved out, away from the abuse, I believe there's a fair chance he could've grown into a good guy and good brother a few years down the road. it's unfortunate that his story was cut short before he had a chance to really turn himself around as a result of what happened with the Mind Flayer.
I didn't say any of this in the post that made you angry because that wasn't the subject of that post.

Hey, I've seen some your more recent anon's pertaining to your Billy post. Its unfortunate that some people take offense (not sure if that's the right word for this?) to things you were pointing out.
I did enjoy reading your analysis though! And thought you made some very interesting points to think about.

thanks! Billy is a really interesting and important character, I wish more people on here were open to discussion about him.

Calling it abuse about things Billy did WHILE FUCKING POSSESSED is fucking ludicrous and so is speculating he did the same in his own free will. Don't see you saying the same about your precious Will Byers. Only Billy Hargrove is the fucking devil ig.
Calling it abuse about things Billy did WHILE FUCKING POSSESSED is fucking ludicrous
I could have articulated better that I do realize there's a distinction between actions done under possession vs one's own free will. the main people who read my analysis posts are those very familiar with the show, so I try to be brief by not recapping context. I meant to refer collectively to times Billy has physically hurt others onscreen and "abuse" was indeed not the most accurate word for every instance.
so is speculating he did the same in his own free will.
disagree, though by "the same" I don't mean "Billy definitely committed all of the exact acts of violence against Max 1:1 that he did to El while flayed". all I said was that there are parallels that got me wondering about the way he treated Max.
Billy is one of the clearest illustrations of ST's theme about cycles of abuse. it's completely reasonable to wonder about him being physically abusive when there are multiple canon events pointing towards exactly that.
besides the couple of things he does to Max onscreen that can be called abuse, Billy also assaults Lucas (a kid several years his junior, who did absolutely nothing to provoke him), and pummels Steve far past a reasonable point of self defense. El also sees young Billy punching another kid yelling "get up and fight me!" indicating that it's a beating, not a fight.
to see all these examples of Billy being violent towards characters who are younger/weaker/not fighting back, and somehow feel certain that that never extended to his younger stepsister (who specifically said that he takes his anger out on her), is not less ludicrous.
Don't see you saying the same about your precious Will Byers.
seems like you might be lumping me in with other blogs? Will isn't my precious anything. he's done good and bad just like everyone else, and I don't post about him much. Will and Billy are fascinating to compare/contrast though. might write about that sometime.
Only Billy Hargrove is the fucking devil ig.
this is not the show's message, nor something I believe or have ever said.

I don't know what show you are watching but the ACTUAL show states Billy never abused Max. Cope.
I don't know what show you are watching
probably the one I put several gifs of, illustrating the exact onscreen events I was referring to
the ACTUAL show states Billy never abused Max.
such a statement would be highly unreliable even if it had actually happened, which it has not. I'd love a timestamp for whatever you're referring to though.
Cope.
cope with...? my favorite character NOT being abused? okay lol?

El-Max parallels implying Billy's physical abuse of Max
quick mostly-gif analysis. we're told that Billy "takes his anger out on Max" and that he "made her life living hell." was he physically abusive to Max all along? nobody ever says that.
we see Billy physically abuse Lucas and Steve. but if we're talking strictly about Max, those phrasings leave room for people to argue that Billy might've been emotionally abusive, but didn't actually hit her or anything. that that arm-grab in the car is just sibling behavior and not necessarily indicative of abuse.
and, hey man, look, you're right that they never say. but there's lots of things this show never explicitly says.
note that we only see Billy/flayed Billy hurt Max twice, and both of those are parallels to ways we also see him hurt El.
the Billy-Max arm grab is suspiciously similar to the Billy-El arm grab. surprise grab, struggle/yanking, and then a rough release. he makes the same face.
(I've seen the argument that Max's daring snark before, and surprise at, the grab suggests he's never hurt her before. but I think both could just as well be explained by the fact that they're in public, where she thought she was safer from this than at home.)
we also see El and Max take facial injuries from flayed Billy at Starcourt. these close ups of their injuries are in consecutive scenes:
and we see him hurt El lots more times than we do Max.
so if the only two we know about are parallels, it makes me wonder about all the other times:
Billy strangling El
the way Billy pauses to look pointedly at Max as he starts strangling El, like he's getting something out of her, in particular, watching this. and then the way Max later looks guilty about the bruise it leaves on El's throat. (I will be discussing this at length soon)
Billy throwing the weights at El
that scene where he's lifting weights and yelling at Max (who's duct taping the skateboard he's heavily implied to have broken as punishment about Lucas)... hmmmm.
hey it's almost like the skateboard is a symbol of / scapegoat for Billy's abuse, because remember:
baby Max with the broken arm
maybe she broke it skateboarding. she did tell Nancy and Jonathan that skateboarding is why she knows first aid, but they don't look like they're buying it.
however, we just so happen to have seen another flashback of baby Max before, which makes it clear that she already knew Billy around this age. (Runaway Max says Billy broke her friend's arm btw.)
Billy repeatedly leaning over El at Starcourt
the "stay still" shit and the way he's repeatedly, unnecessarily, on top of El in that scene, using his body to trap her in. (like. if he wants her to quit struggling, it'd be easier to kick her when he's already standing than to get back on all fours and headbutt her. why does he actively get in the way of the MF to keep Doing That.) we've seen Billy block Max in before with the silent threat of his physicality. a subtle taste of a commonly overlooked form of abuse.
those all leave me wondering about the ones I can't think of Max screenshots to pair with.
Billy slamming El by the face... throwing her into the wall to knock her out... dragging El by the foot as she tries to crawl away from him (only to get back on top of her once again)...
but hey. no worries. they never said any of that.
#givehimthemedicine analysis#max mayfield#eleven#tw abuse#some of these gifs are 💩 but I'm not doing it again#very much hoping the sa flavors are purely vecna and not really a billy thing (not that I'm happy about it being anyone's thing)#but the rest...#billy
