I want to put down all the references in the Worst Generation (excluding the Straw Hats and Blackbeard) and the named members of their crews. I'm getting my information from the wiki and adding my own theories/comments where necessary. Ever since I read JoJo, I love finding references in manga.
Fire Tank Pirates
Capone Bege: His surname is obviously taken from Al Capone (whom he also shares his birthday with) and his given name is based on the English privateer William le Sauvage. Him being stated to cut animals' heads off is a nod to the horse head scene from The Godfather.
Vito: His name seems to be taken from Vito "Don Vito" Genovese, a mobster/crime boss from Al Capone's era, and the first name of Don Corleone from The Godfather.
Gotti: He seems to be named after John Gotti, a mobster who ran the Gambino crime family in the 80s (He was nicknamed 'the Telfon Don' due to him facing three trials and being acquitted every time -- the results were caused by jury tampering and witness intimidation-- before being finally sent to prison in 1992).
Chiffon: She's named after chiffon cake, which she also specializes in making.
Pez: His name is the Spanish word for fish, as well as a nod to the candy brand, keeping with the Charlotte Family naming theme.
Bonney Pirates
Jewelry Bonney: Her name is taken from the 18th-century Anne Bonney, who, like Bonney herself, was a noble turned pirate.
Hawkins Pirates
Basil Hawkins: His surname is taken from 17th-century English pirate Basil Ringosel and his given name from 16th-century pirate/privateer John Hawkins. Hawkins is also the name of the protagonist of the 1883 adventure novel Treasure Island (which had a massive impact on the depiction of pirates in popular culture) by Robert Louis Stevenson, who also wrote The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Visually, his design is based off of Joey Jordison of Slipknot.
Faust: He's named after the legendary character Faust, who sold his soul to the Devil in exchange for knowledge and worldly pleasures. The story was most famously told by 15th-century playwright Christopher Marlowe in The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus and by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in Faust.
On Air Pirates
Scratchman Apoo: His surname seems to be based on the practice of "scratching" records when DJing, tying into his association with music. His first name is taken from the Qing dynasty pirate Chui A-poo.
Kid Pirates
Eustass Kid: He's named after the 13th-century pirate and mercenary Eustace the Monk and the 17th-century Scottish (which Kid would be if he existed in the real world) pirate William Kidd, who was also called "Captain."
Kid's Attacks: I decided this needed its own entry. Punk Gibson (Kid's giant arm) -- Named after the US guitar manufacturer Gibson. Punk Rotten (the giant scrap metal head and arms) -- Named after Johnny Rotten, the name John Lyndon used when he was the frontman of the influential punk band Sex Pistols. Punk Vise (Crushing a target with Punk Rotten's hands) -- As "vice" and "vise" are spelled the same way in katakana, this attack might be named after the British punk rock band Vice Squad. Punk Pistols (a harpoon gun made out of metal pieces that acts like a Gatling gun) -- Named after Sex Pistols. Punk Corna Dio (the giant bull he used to attack Big Mom) -- Corna is Italian for horns, alluding to the sign of the horns in heavy metal, while Dio references Ronnie James Dio, who was very big in that genre; no, I'm not making the obvious joke. Damned Punk (the giant railgun he used to blast Big Mom off Onigashima) -- Probably named after the British punk rock band The Damned. Punk Clash (after magnetizing someone with his Awakened Devil Fruit, they attract very large and pointy metal pieces) -- Named after the British punk band The Clash.
Killer: His laugh alludes to the song 'Psycho Killer' by the New Wave band the Talking Heads, as the chorus is the same ("fa fa fa fa fa"). The song might be the source of his name. His helmet strongly resembles that of Daft Punk member Guy-Manual de Homem-Christo.
Heat: He's likely named after the experimental rock band This Heat.
Wire: He might be named after the English rock band Wire.
Gig: In keeping with the Kid Pirates' music-related theme naming, a gig is slang for a live show.
Dive: She's likely named after stage-diving, a common practice among musicians and their fans.
UK: His name may come from the UK, where many classic punk bands originated from (ie, the Clash, Sex Pistols). Alternately, he might be named after the Sex Pistols' song 'Anarchy in the UK.'
Pomp: He's likely named after pomp rock, more commonly known as arena rock (examples of bands known for arena rock: Styx, Toto, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Boston).
Bubblegum: His name seems to be a reference to bubblegum music (rock and pop in a catchy and upbeat style marketed toward children), which influenced punk rock, new wave, and melodic metal.
Reck: He's named after the bassist of the Japanese punk rock band Friction.
House: She's named after the electronic music subgenre house music.
Boogie: He's probably named after the electronic club music subgenre called boogie.
Mosh: He's likely named after moshing, a rather violent form of dancing. Appropriate for a member of a crew known for their violence.
Hip: She's named after hip-hop.
Papas: He's named after the folk rock group The Mamas & the Papas, the indie rock band Papas Fritas, or both.
Jaguar: He's likely named after the Fender Jaguar electric guitar. Alternately, his name could come from Mick Jagger's last name, as "Jagger" and "Jaguar" are spelled the same way in katakana.
Quincy: Her name likely comes from the producer and musician Quincy Jones, who produced Michael Jackson's albums Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad, and has 80 Grammy Award nominations and 28 Grammys.
Hop: She's named after hip-hop.
Compo: He might be named after an abbreviation of 'musical composition.'
Disc J: His name pretty clearly comes from disc jockey, more commonly known as DJ.
Fallen Monk Pirates
Urouge: He's named after the 16th-century Ottoman Pirate Oruc Reis. He seems to be based off of Grigori Rasputin, who needs no introduction, and/or Ji Gong, a Chinese monk known for having supernatural abilities, behaving bizarrely, and not following Buddhist monastic rules. Interestingly, both these figures have movies (Rasputin the Mad Monk, a 1966 Hammer horror film starring Christopher Lee as the titular character, and the 1993 Hong Kong film The Mad Monk) that might have inspired his epithet.
Drake Pirates
X Drake: Drake is sometimes synonymous with dragon, especially in Middle English; appropriate, given that dinosaur bones likely inspired legends of dragons. His name is also taken from 16th-century pirate and adventurer Francis Drake. Random (but likely not a deliberate reference) fact: He shares his birthday with the singer/rapper Drake.
Heart Pirates
Trafalgar D. Water Law: His surname is taken from Cape Trafalgar in the south of Spain, which was the site of a battle between the British and French/Spanish fleets which famously killed Lord Nelson. His name is taken from 18th-century pirate Edward Low, who was notorious for violently torturing his victims before killing them, which may have inspired Law's own reputation for cruelty.
Bepo: He might be named after Lord Byron's poem 'Beppo.' He's also likely named after bear, polar.
Shachi: His name is the Japanese word for killer whale, which makes his friendship with Penguin (who's named after killer whales' preferred food) kind of funny.
Jean Bart: His name comes from the 16th-century French privateer Jean Bart.
Ikkaku: Her name means 'narwhal' in Japanese.
Uni: His name comes from the Japanese word for sea urchin.
Clione: 'Clione' is the Latin name for sea angels.
Hakugan: His name means 'snow goose' in Japanese.

My idea for a potential DEATH BATTLE! #3
2023, September 15, 16, 18, 19
Link to the second post:
Master list will be coming soon.
Diavolo vs. Giovanni (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure vs. Pokémon)
Step aside and make way for the big bosses in charge!
Fighter 1: Diavolo, the Crimson King and leader of Passione.
Fighter 2: Giovanni, the infamous leader of Team Rocket.
Wiz: The mob rules. The mafia reigns. The gangster is just as present around the world as he is dangerous...
*insert clips of Al Capone, Yakuza, Guy Ritchie movies, and The Godfather here*
Boomstick: ...and today we'll see which king of crime will prove their power absolute! He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win... a Death Battle.
PREFACE:
I saw this MU a while ago from two YouTube videos, presenting it in the "Next time..." format. I think it's a nice matchup, and it's somewhat timely since both Brandon Yates and Therewolf Media have "recently" released commissioned work for Enrico Pucci vs. Cyrus. We had the reshapers of the new universe, so why not the leaders of the gangs and mafias?
Videos:
https://youtu.be/j1pdbXi6S1k?si=NAnHsFTf29LW8dj3
https://youtu.be/JIvSOFaJ4wU?si=GbVFL35bC_FShwSf
WHY:
Connections:
1. Both are leaders of organized crime syndicates (Passione and Team Rocket) and are inspired by the Italian mafia.
2. Both are overarching villains whose actions have affected their timelines immensely. (Diablo uncovered and sold the Arrows, Giovanni formed Team Rocket and ordered the creation of Mewtwo)
3. Both are eventually defeated by young protagonists that could harness powers and abilities similar to theirs (Giorno defeated Diavolo with a Stand and various Pokémon game protagonists have defeated Giovanni, cannon or otherwise)
4. Both have a psychic weapon/ally with red-like color schemes, considered to be among the most powerful of their respective worlds (King Crimson and Mewtwo)
5. Both have abandoned their child (Trish and Silver).
Personal reasons: well, I wanted a MU that could draw more attention to itself than my previous suggestion. After I saw this MU, I figured that this could be a great DB! episode as both these characters are portrayed as intimidating and fearsome due to their influence and their own strength. I'd love to see a long battle in which Diavolo fights each of Giovanni's monsters, eventually facing off against Mewtwo.
THE FIGHT:
Art and animation: This one will likely be a 2D fight due to the assets for the Pocket Monsters. It will most likely just be one Pokémon for Giovanni instead of a full team for budgetary reasons, but I'm okay with it if it means being able to get a quality animation. Mewtwo will likely not be a factor (at least not here), but if we're considering Giovanni at his peak, then Mewtwo should be part of his team.
Possible setup:
Team Rainbow Rocket is traveling the Multiverse, attempting to spread their influence. They emerge from an Ultra Wormhole unto Italy, in the Colosseum. After a short while, they overrun the streets and interfere with Passione's own influence over the streets as a consequence and end up uncovering information on Diavolo. This angers Diavolo, who, using his abilities, infiltrates his way into Giovanni's HQ.
"I don't like what you're doing. This is Passione territory, and you're a plague that needs to be stopped." Diavolo emerges from the shadows of Giovanni's office, coming face to face with the face of Rocket. Diavolo knows that they have information on his past, about Trish, about Donatella.
"You must be the leader of Passione. I must say, I am impressed you got here. However, if you wish to emerge unhurt, then leave and cease operating Passione. Otherwise, you will be exposed to the world, Solido Nasso." Giovanni steps in front of his desk, readying his pokéball.
Diavolo, remaining calm so as to not draw attention, prepares for confrontation. Whoever this is, he's a threat, especially if he knows of that name. "Neither you nor your pets will threaten my everlasting climax."
Giovanni summons his Rhyperior. (Moveset: Earthquake, Stone Edge, Megahorn, Thunder Punch)
FIGHT! :
1. Diavolo sees the creature in front of him and knows his own strength is not going to take him down, but he's confident. He'll avoid any pitfall set before him by Fate. "Thunder Punch!", and the Drill Pokémon lunges forward, reeling back its right arm, charging up its fist with lightning and electricity, and attacks... empty space? Diavolo is not there, rather he is behind Giovanni, as if he teleported.
2. Before King Crimson can deliver a killing strike, Giovanni quickly notices and backs away, and Rhyperior uses Thunder Punch again. "King Crimson! Strike him down!" King Crimson's fist clashes with the TP, resulting in a shockwave that launches everyone backward.
3. "I will not fall... Fate favors me... It submits to me..." Diavolo uses Epitaph to get a forecast of the future, whether to avoid an attack or to get an opening. He seems the Drilling Devil charging at him, but with his horn; a much more dangerous attack.
4. Giovanni replies, "We'll see about that... Megahorn!" Giovanni noticed that his foe's "Pokémon" is invisible, so it must be a Ghost or Psychic Type, and the info he gathered seems to back it up. Teleporting? Supposedly seeing the future? How convenient would it be if he had the Sylph Scope, but he could work with what information he had and decided to test just how strong his foe's friend was. He led a Gym, masterminded Team Rocket, and orchestrated Rainbow Rocket; he should be capable of strategizing. Rhyperior charges up its horn, activating it like a drill, and charges forward, letting out a war cry.
5. Diavolo notices and easily dodges, but it seems as though Rhyperior isn't even trying to hurt him. Megahorn pierces the ground and kicks up a lot of dust and dirt. Diavolo laughs, seeing himself as superior. "See? All shall fall to my King Crimson! I will come out on top and erase the past!" "Earthquake!"
6. "King Crimson!" Diavolo starts to move during the erased time, positioning himself to kill Giovanni. When he's about to strike, Diavolo is caught off guard by falling debris. Rhyperior then uses Stone Edge and critically hurts Diavolo.
7. "You think of yourself as invincible, but you're not, and you underestimate your foes. That's your big weakness in battle." Giovanni has been weakening his own office so that it could come apart easily, allowing the ceiling to come down around the battlefield and crush Diavolo. Diavolo's overconfidence resulted in him not using Epitaph, and it cost him. With another Thunder Punch, Diavolo is pummeled to the ground. He receives further damage as Rhyperior lets loose an Earthquake.
8. Emerging from the rubble, Diavolo is bloody and battered. However, he doesn't give up. He's able to land powerful and focused blows against Rhyperior, slowly frustrating Giovanni. "And you're weakness is overreliance... You may be a mastermind, but you can't do anything without your subordinates or slaves!" Diavolo uses quick movements and slowly wears down his foe, and even dodges several attacks, even an Earthquake. Seeing the Drill Pokémon panting, he uses Epitaph to see into the future... He sees the end of the fight... This is it! Fate shall reveal to him the truth!
9. Diavolo wins due to making Rhyperior faint, catching the giant by surprise, and playing mind tricks with Giovanni by projecting the future like he did with Bruno. Giovanni grunts in frustration and takes out all his remaining pokéballs. He can't lose now. He feels anger, he feels frustrated, he feels... -CRUNCH!- Pain... His breathing wavers and he looks at his torso. King Crimson had impaled him from behind and then killed him off for good with a punch. Diavolo kicks away the corpse and laughs. "Only the result remains in a world where time has perished, and you have failed to knock me off the apex."
10. Giovanni wins due to Rhyperior impaling Diavolo with Stone Edge. Bleeding out, Diavolo uses Epitaph and sees the vision of him dying... He thinks to himself, "No...! NO...!" He's infuriated, starting to yell, "This cannot be! He's I'm invincible!" Giovanni looks at him in the eyes and with his usual poise, replies, "Fate has chosen you to die. Rhyperior, Megahorn". Rhyperior uses its giant drill for a horn and charges in, resulting in Diavolo getting dismembered. Giovanni cackles in victory, for he knows Passione will no longer be able to stop him.
11. After hearing the commotion, Rainbow Rocket grunts storm into the ruined office. If Diavolo wins, the grunts panic upon seeing Giovanni's corpse and start searching for Diavolo, who's already hiding in the shadows, plotting to take control of Italy again. Passione will rise again. If Giovanni wins, he orders his mooks to dispose of the body. He had a hard battle, but he doesn't need to worry about anyone interfering with his plans anymore.
12. KO!
RESULT:
Strengths and weaknesses:
Diavolo:
+ Has momentary intangibility during the time skips.
+ Epitaph can let him avoid many attacks.
+ King Crimson's strength is supposedly comparable to that of Star Platinum and The World, and Star Platinum can shatter giant stones that are at least as hard as diamond.
+ Can easily kill Giovanni either by butchering him himself or with King Crimson...
≥ Likely faster.
≥ Likely smarter.
- ...but cannot likely do much to injure Giovanni's stronger and bulkier Pokémon.
- Does not compare to Mewtwo and both its Mega Forms.
- Is arguably destined to die due to his wanting to surpass Fate.
- Is known to lose his cool if his opponent starts to expose or annoy him.
Giovanni:
+ Rhyperior is more durable.
+ All his Pokémon can damage Psychic and Ghost types, so they should be able to damage Stands. Nidoqueen even has a Dark Type move: Throat Chop.
+ Dugtrio and Rhyperior allow for terrain control with Sandstorm and Earthquake.
+ If given access to Mewtwo, then he has a huge speed and power advantage and could target King Crimson with Aura Sphere or drain Diavolo's energy with Drain Punch.
≥ Rhyperior's strength could likely compare to King Crimson's considering how Rhyperior can damage and take hits from super strong Fighting, Steel, Rock, and Ground Types.
- Is incapable without his Pokémon.
- Mewtwo isn't part of his standard arsenal, so it's questionable if Giovanni could call upon this ally at any time.
Ending puns:
"Giovanni and Team Rocket are Diavo-long gone."
"Diavolo simply didn't have enough Passione to win"
MUSIC:
Name: "King of Crime"
The title makes reference to how these two are the leaders and masterminds of gangs and mafias, notorious for their crimes and their impact.
Art: The art would depict the Arrow piercing the Earth Badge, colored with the Rainbow Rocket colors. They're surrounded by the crimson glitch of the time erasure and it would look as if it emerged from an Ultra Wormhole.
Sound: Grand and orchestral, with choir elements and rock instrumentation. There would be occasional glitches to reference the time erasure and maybe even chiptune to sound like the old Game Boy games. It would reference Rocket Boss Giovanni from USUM and The Final Fight from the Golden Wind OST.
Hoo, boy! This was a fun one. I was trying to find a way for Giovanni to be able to tell when time is skipped, but it was fun to figure out, and I definitely want to hear how you guys would think Giovanni could work around the time erasure.
THANK YOU AND I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THIS!

---------------------------------------------------
Amazing! First of all, I love the theme and I'd love to see more fights and music mash-ups like these in the future!
Though there are a few flaws I see in this. First off is the same issue that came from Red V. Tai, where it was pointed out that Pokémon under Trainer influence become confused in battle, and this battle was mostly Giovanni's Rhyperior VS Diavolo. Though, it could be argued that humans are physically stronger in the Pokémon universe, there is no significant evidence to prove this.
I do like that Giovanni intentionally keeps his office structurally weaker for an advantage, though I haven't seen any evidence support this. (Unless it's in the manga, which I haven't read yet)
I think the Diavolo wins outcome is more likely, but that's my opinion.

Chicago Music Scene
For this blog post I am going to in a completely different direction as per usual. Music scenes are generated by a singular idea or motive and from there develop into something really special. It is seen all over the country in many specific ways such as Detroit HipHop, DC Hardcore, San Francisco Punk, etc. The history, setting, people, time, sounds and sights are all very integral factors in creating a music scene From these factors a large aspect develops, something special, that is a direct reflection of the community. The specific music scene that I am going to cover today is something I am sure many people are not familiar with, and it is Chicago’s drill music scene.
Tumblr media
Drill music is a style variant of trap music that was said to have originated in the South Side of Chicago in the early 2010s. Chicago drill rap is a scene which practically revolutionized hip hop. According to Dario Lorenzo, “The genre’s songs, which are typically hallmarked by furious lyrical outbursts over dark trap beats, have long been controversial due to the violent and nihilist nature of their lyrical content”(Dariolorenzo.com). However, that is not the biggest reason why Chicago drill is unsettling to unfamiliar onlookers, it is the fact that the artists that are creating these songs are very young.
It is said that artist Chief Keef symbolizes Chicago drill and he was one of, if not the main reasons as to why it became so popular. He is known as the symbol because he is the most popular out of all of the other artists that created drill music. To put this into perspective, “Chief Keef was 16 when his fame jettisoned him from the Drill-sphere into the eyes of the mainstream public. Or take the case of L’a Capone and RondoNumbaNine. The two rappers were 17 and 16 respectively when their hit single ‘Play For Keeps’ came out, racking up millions of views on YouTube”(Dariolorenzo.com). So there was this large rush of young stars, who were all out there throwing around extremely violent lyrics which naturally led to more critical scrutiny of the genre.
Tumblr media
Only more scrutiny and speculation came after 18-year-old rapper Joseph Coleman, or Lil Jojo, was shot and killed after an internet beef with rapper Lil Reese. So after Coleman’s death, more and more critics used his death as a platform to disparage the genre for its crass presentation of violence and frequent inciteful taunts, saying it encouraged criminal activity.
This diagnosis from music critics only showed to be the start. There was a huge increase in criminal violence in response to the genre. Now whether it was directed related to the upcoming of the music genre, that I do not know, but it sure is not a coincidence. A great number of the songs in the Chicago drill category were tributes which is so crazy and sad to hear. Many of the songs were made as tributes to fallen friends and or family, the lyrics showed violent and nihilist tone, and often spoke of retaliation. Certain songs like GMEBE Pistol’s “Letter to Shayla and Roe, Part 2” were made as tributes after his sister Shayla and his best friend Roemello were killed in street violence. Songs such as this one brought another subgenre to the Chicago scene. According to Dario Lorenzo, “In a way, this departure from the typical conventions of Chicago drill beats is rather emblematic, for what Pistol has encapsulated quite totally in this song is the other side of Chicago drill”(Dario Lorenzo). Lorenzo then touches on this again and I need to share it because this is so well said. He says “The song does not shy away or skirt around emotional vulnerability as other songs in the genre do; it functions as an emotional conduit, a direct corridor into the heart, a humanization of the suffering which is so often depicted by the music industry without a second thought”(Dario Lorenzo).
Tumblr media
I am not even that big of a fan of this type of music, but I have listened to Chief Keef in the past and it was a great experience to learn more about the background of Chicago drill and how it has inspired so many different songs nowadays. Without certain music scenes such as Chicago drill, there would not be some songs that we all know and listen to everyday.

Lyrics Translation: BAD HOP - KAWASAKI DRIFT
*this song contains some explicit lyrics in English
This song is from their BAD HOP HOUSE album (2018).  Side note, I was a little more casual and used more slang than I usually do when translating, but it fits the song style better.

[HOOK: YZERR] Kawasaki takin’ over the country Swervin’[1]  from down Low to the TOP Today I’m shakin’ off my past Gonna take off with the accelerator at full throttle My Flow is gonna change This town’s fame and my fortune Breakin’ the chain, revving the engine Drifting [all over] the city
[Verse 1: Vingo] Heading to our hometown from the city over the Daishi Bridge From Tokyo to our native Kawasaki back to the place we all began Tokyo’s my power-spot Riding that sound I can do it if I really try, [2] ya know Can we get a nationwide license to do what we want[3]? Ladies so attracted to the flames shooting outta my tailpipe Our speed is like a Kawasaki Ninja H.2.R[4]  I look like such a toughboy Leavin’ behind tire tracks All [you see] is my back as you desperately try to keep up But you got a long way to go [to catch up] If you keep moving forward, you may not ever make it Home Even if you stop to rest, the clock won’t stop ticking The ENEMY is in the mirror So we ain’t never gonna rest [Til] I’ve outraced my messed-up past
[HOOK: YZERR] Kawasaki takin’ over the country Swervin’ from down Low to the TOP Today I’m shakin’ off my past Gonna take off with the accelerator at full throttle My Flow is gonna change This town’s fame and my fortune Breakin’ the chain, revving the engine Drifting [all over] the city

[Yellow Pato] Now we’re busting out of the surveillance cameras And they’re snapping photos of us on the stage Haters always tryna find fault with us While they worship us through the screen First off, yo they ain’t nothing but fake imitators It’d be a dream come true to never have to deal with them Yo, we ain’t ever gonna stop Leaving those trivial, mediocre kids [in the dust] Our wallets fat with cash [That’s] world-famous KAWASAKI
[HOOK: YZERR] Kawasaki takin’ over the country Swervin’ from down Low to the TOP Today I’m shakin’ off my past Gonna take off with the accelerator at full throttle
[Verse 3: Bark] Someone’s bitchin’[7]  again Ain’t never getting out of this town Desire [for more] flooding the whole city My birthplace, Ikegami[8]  Glancin’ at that Gang bitch smokin’ weed as I fly by Chasin’ after that cheddar like a rat Becoming the dream of all the KIDS My fire-spouting Ninja KAWASAKI
[Tiji Jojo] Leavin’ those lame-asses in the dust with my Flow Everything in front of us is movin’ so Slow Raisin’ smoke with my spinning tires Heading towards the TOP to a lifestyle where money ain’t no thing In this town where I was raised, them gull-wing doors [9] going up Don’t need no predictability; I just go for it[10]  Snatchin’ up everything I want with my grubby hands Stackin’ up that money like [I’m playin’] Jenga[11]
[Benjazzy] How you gonna survive? The trouble in this city is endless [Honestly,] who’s that out of touch with reality[12] ? So hard-headed [it’s like they’re wearing] a helmet[13]  This goes out to all those guys who died too young Reachin’ out my hand to all you outcasts [14] with the same DNA We ain’t gonna hide We can’t change who we are It ain’t no mistake We’re what little punks [15] aspire to be We’re like family[16]; sendin’ this out to all the young wannabes Rust rubbing off on their skin from their tarnished chains We ain’t gonna stop
[HOOK: YZERR] Kawasaki takin’ over the country Swervin’ from down Low to the TOP Today I’m shakin’ off my past Gonna take off with the accelerator at full throttle
[Verse 4: T-Pablow] From muddy water [17] to champagne From cup-noodles to lobster Unrelenting in the pursuit of my true self [I went] from “Boy A[18] ” to SUPERSTAR And then which rapper was it who turned into a millionaire? It was me, obviously (pablow) It was me, obviously Runnin’ you over with my R/C[19]  NINJA [got my] Nintendo Famicom[20]  My town used to be a cheap imitation, rusting and peeling But I’ve gotta become famous in Kawasaki ward [The only way to do it is] to become a murderer or a rapper Like Al Capone instead of Al Pacino[21]  This ain’t about having influence, it’s a way of life I’m a trouble man
[HOOK: YZERR]
Kawasaki takin’ over the country Swervin’ from down Low to the TOP Today I’m shakin’ off my past Gonna take off with the accelerator at full throttle My Flow is gonna change This town’s fame and my fortune Breakin’ the chain, revving the engine Drifting [all over] the city
Translator’s Notes:
[1] This uses a phrase that basically means “cutting the steering wheel” (ハンドルきる/HANDORU kiru).
[2] He switches back and forth (as do a few of the other guys) between singular 俺 ore / rough-sounding “I” and rough-sounding plural “we” (using ore with suffixes tachi or ra).  I did my best with the pronouns in a couple places, but it wasn’t obvious if he was saying “we” or “I” in this line.  He said “I” in the Tokyo power-spot line, and then “we” in the certified invincible line next so…
[3] This seems to be a play on 無免許 mumenkyo, meaning unlicensed (driver).  無敵 muteki means “invincible, unrivaled, undefeatable,” so basically, a license that can’t be taken away or a license to be whatever they want to be without limits.
[4] The Ninja H2R is a hypersport motorcycle produced by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd.  It’s apparently only intended for closed-course racing and is not street-legal (so you can’t drive it on public roads or highways).  It’s hella fast, with a quoted max speed of 240mph/380kph, and since it doesn’t have to meet sound ordinances for public-street use, it’s also super loud.
[5] Kawasaki has a yakuza presence and is the home grounds of the Yamakawa-ikka syndicate.  More info here, though the page is only in Japanese.
[6] The word used is 目覚まし mezamashi meaning “alarm clock” or “keeping oneself awake.”
[7] The word used is つぶやく tsubuyaku, which could mean either “to tweet (as in on Twitter)” or “to mutter/grumble.”
[8] Ikegami is a city in the Kawasaki ward.
[9] Gull-wing car doors hinge at the roof rather than on the sides, so they open upwards.  Some older-model cars (Mercedes Benz from the ‘50’s and ‘70’s) had gull-wing doors; as far as I know the only recent-ish model with them is the Tesla Model X.  This could also refer to the style of door on many Lamborghinis, which open on an angle rather than a real gull-wing (also called scissor doors or Lambo doors.) More on cars with gull-wing doors here and scissor doors here.
[10] This seems to be a variation of the idiom 石橋を叩いて渡る / ishibashi tataite wataru which is literally translated as something like “inspecting the stone bridge [for damage] before crossing.”  The English equivalent is “look before you leap,” meaning, think about what you’re going to do and weigh the consequences before proceeding.  The way he’s phrased it (叩かねぇ石橋 / tataka nee ishibashi) has removed the verb for “crossing” but turned the verb for “inspecting” to a negative as well – so it’s literally something like, “I’m not even checking that bridge,” which in turn means he’s not being cautious or careful, but just doing what he wants without really thinking about it too much.  More info on the idiom here (in Japanese only).
[11] Jenga is a game of physical skill where players take turns trying to remove and replace wooden bricks from a stack which becomes increasingly unstable as the game progresses.  More on Jenga here.
[12] 昔カタギ mukashi katagi literally means “old-fashioned spirit, old-fashioned way of thinking,” which is the kind of thing you’d say about someone who is stuck in the past and doesn’t see what’s going on around them.
[13] He says コルクメット KORUKU METTO, which is literally “cork helmet.”  Specifically, pith helmets are made of cloth-covered Indian cork, so I assume that’s what it’s meant to refer to.  More about pith helmets here.
[14] This is a little loose.  The actual word is 浮浪者 furousha which means “vagrant, vagabond, tramp.”
[15] This is the noun ガキ gaki, which is a kind of derogatory word for kids.  It’s usually “brats, urchins, little devils” and the like, not typically well-behaved children.  The kids in the tough neighborhoods where they grew up want to be successful like them; they’re not necessarily saying the kids themselves are bad, but the area they’re from is not the greatest, so they’re all kind of assumed (by people who don’t know them) to be punks and hoods.
[16] This isn’t family in the traditional sense – 繋がれる tsunagareru is defined as “to be tied together, to be connected to, to be related to” but not necessarily in a blood-relative kind of way.  This is like, “We understand where you’re from because we’re from there, too.”
[17] So, 泥水 doromizu can mean either “muddy water” or “red light district.”  I’m going with water, because these lines are saying “We used to be on the bottom, now we’re on top,” or “We went from rags to riches.”
[18] The only real references to 少年A / Shounen A I found online were in relation to the Kobe child murders (the murderer was given the nickname Shounen A since he was too young to have his name released in the media) – but I think this is just meant to mean, “I went from being from some no-name kid nobody knew to being a superstar.”
[19] ラジコン / RAJIKON is short for radio-controlled, often abbreviated R/C.  This is usually a toy (typically a car or other vehicle) that you can control with a joystick or buttons to drive it around.  From the “Ninja” reference, and the references to the Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle earlier, I’m guessing he’s talking about a radio-controlled motorcycle toy.
[20] 任天堂ファミコン Nintendou FAMIKON was the original Nintendo “Family Computer” platform that was remarketed and exported as the Famicom or simply N.E.S. in the US.  It was one of the best-selling game platforms of all time.  More info here.
[21] Al Capone (also nicknamed “Scarface”) was a notorious American mafia gangster. Al Pacino is an American actor who plays a lot of gangster-type characters in movies (including a few loosely based on Al Capone), but is not, in fact, an actual gangster.  So one is (was) way more dangerous than the other, who is only acting like a gangster.

Muntinlupa court dismisses De Lima, Dayan bid to junk drug raps
#PHnews: Muntinlupa court dismisses De Lima, Dayan bid to junk drug raps
MANILA – A Muntinlupa court on Wednesday dismissed the demurrer to evidence filed by counsels of detained Senator Leila de Lima and her former aide Ronnie Dayan seeking to dismiss the drug charges against them.
In an omnibus order, Muntinlupa RTC Branch 205 Judge Liezel Aquiatan also denied the grant of bail for de Lima and Dayan in Criminal Case No. 17-165.
"The separate demurrers to evidence of accused Leila de Lima and Ronnie Dayan are both denied. The petition for bail filed by accused de Lima and Dayan are likewise denied," Aquiatan said.
A demurrer challenges the legal sufficiency of a charge based on the evidence so far presented and seeks the outright dismissal of the complaint.
Meanwhile, Aquiatan has set the initial reception of evidence of the defense on March 5.
The case filed by prosecutors alleged that from November 2012 to December 2012, de Lima, who was then secretary of justice conspired with then DOJ employee Dayan to use mobile phones in drug trading and receiving money to fund her senatorial campaign.
The head of the prosecution panel, Ramoncito Ocampo, said they have completed its preliminary interviews to prepare witnesses against de Lima whose detention had earlier been transferred to the Philippine Marines detention barracks at the Fort Bonifacio, in Taguig City.
"We have completed our preparation of our witnesses here," Ocampo said after the trip to the Marines barracks.
In June 2019, 10 high-profile inmates were transferred to the Marines facility following a controversy over the early release of 2,000 convicts under the then newly enacted Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) law.
Reports said among those transferred at the time were inmates Hans Anton Tan, Peter Co alias Wu Tuan Yuan, Jojo Baligad, Vicente Sy, Froilan Trestiza, Nonilo Arile, Chua Che Ket, Rico Caja, Joel Capones and Allan Senogat.
Meanwhile, the court granted de Lima's bid to junk the separate charge against her which involved a co-accused Jose Adrian "Jad" Dera.
Aquiatan said in Criminal Case No. 17-166, the prosecution failed to substantiate its theory that de Lima had conspired with Dera in allegedly receiving money and vehicles from Peter Co to fund her senatorial campaign while the drug lord was then incarcerated at the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).
Dera, the prosecutors said, collected at least PHP3 million from Co for de Lima through his niece, Sally Serrano.
The court, however, junked Dera's demurrer but allowed him to post a bail of PHP500,000. (PNA)
