The Wire fanart from my last rewatch. Police/crime drama really isn't my genre, but this series slaps.

So maybe I’m talking out my ass about a show that has been off the air for decades but I noticed a cool detail in the Wire (major spoilers ahead)
So in Season 1, D’Angelo teaches Wallace and Bodie (and Poot? I think he’s there but I can’t remember) how to play chess, and he explains how the game works by comparing it to the drug trade, with Avon as the king, Stringer as the Queen, the stash as the Rook and kids like Wallace and Bodie as pawns. Bodie especially gets fixated on the pawns, clearly seeing himself in it and trying to ask how the pawn (he) can win the game. They also specifically mention how pawns kill, which is diagonally, and that pawns get taken out early.
Later in the season, when Poot and Bodie kill Wallace, they have him cornered, and they are in the opposite corner of the room, diagonally across from him. The way the scene is shot also emphasizes the diagonal line of the shots that kill Wallace, a visual reminder that these kids killed their friend because they’re pawns in someone else’s game.
I don’t know if this is a commonly discussed thing or I’m reading too much into it, but I thought this was a neat detail.
