Love Story is a classic, so get ready for more remixes.
There are a handful of Digital Dog Remixes. Already posted to the blog are the Radio Mix and the Dub. In this post I’ll share the Digital Dog Remix, just the standard version.
The J. Stax Radio Mix is also already up, but there’s an extended J. Stax Club Mix which is not.
And the last official mix in this post will be the Love Story (Taylor’s Version) [Elvira Remix]. I would have given it its own post but this is more straightforward.
I’ll throw a fanmix in, Love Story (Unite Mix). This is a dreamy EDM mix with a trap beat. I had it liked on youtube for the longest time and then it got deleted due to copyright. I ended up finding it again on some random Arabic video hosting site and I’m really glad I did. So here it is, preserved forever.

idk how the show works but I hope they make good songs & connections and then good albums :D
there are some artists i'd like to get to know better since there's not much known about them, and artists who we've seen too many times already :D
it's also interesting that it's not produced by mnet, whose editing and favoritism (?) is quite predictable. it'll be interesting to see what and who they focus on. I'm personally interested in 99 Nasty Kidz, Chaboom (what happened to his label???!?), Luci Gang <3. I'm not interested in all the wannabe gangster people.
And I just read that Churry (remember him from that college rapper show?) now has a PhD and works as a teacher/online teacher (you know those popular influencer-like after school teachers? i think like that?) fun fact :D
and I wonder if we know the artists that haven't been recognized yet.

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
Ms. Lauryn Hill
Raw, profound, and era-defining, its mastery has never been duplicated.
Lauryn Hill’s debut—and only—solo studio album was a seismic event in 1998: a stunningly raw, profound look into the spiritual landscape not just of one of the era’s biggest stars, but of the era itself. Decades later, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill still counts as a life-changer, with the preternaturally talented Hill rapping with the confident ferocity of a woman in total creative control and singing with the gospel-hued richness of the soul canon. It was an expression of interior depth during a time in which Black women were often portrayed as one-dimensional archetypes, and Hill delivered her magnum opus of life’s triumphs and setbacks with such singular heart, sincerity, and specificity that it transcended from an album into a universal statement of being. Her fortitude was so powerful that new generations continue to discover an album whose specific mastery of musicality, lyricism, and frankness has not been replicated.
Miseducation was forged in emotional fire. After seven years as the voice of the politically cogent, critically acclaimed New Jersey hip-hop trio The Fugees—and in the aftermath of a protracted, tumultuous relationship with her bandmate Wyclef Jean—Hill set out to document a period of major life transitions, including the slow erosion of the group she’d been with since high school. With the trauma came new beginnings: Hill was also inspired by the physical and mental transitions of pregnancy and the birth of Zion, her first child with Rohan Marley, using her attendant spirituality as a guiding light. This potent emotional crossroads led to what remains one of the rawest albums ever created, a lasting artistic beacon for musicians across genre, and a moment in which the whole world recognized Hill’s talents.
Miseducation’s opening track, in which a teacher announces a classroom roll call only for Lauryn Hill to be absent, speaks to its thesis: that its lessons were of the sort that can only be learned through lived experience. As she weaved through painful eviscerations of an ex, which even at the time were understood to be directed at Jean, she redefined the way gritty, sharp rapping and lavish R&B harmonies could fuse together in an era of nearly catholic separation between the two genres. (Even three years after Method Man and Mary J. Blige’s “All I Need” remix, hardcore rap was largely still teeming with misogyny, and R&B was seen as a softer, more feminine pursuit.) Miseducation centered a young woman's point of view, in all her rebellions and vulnerabilities, amid terrain dominated on the hip-hop charts by a certain vision of hypermasculinity. But it also served as an entry point for a mainstream still inclined to denigrate hip-hop’s musicality.
The album was recorded, in part, at Hope Road in Jamaica, in Bob Marley’s home—a legacy reflected in Hill’s idea for the album’s cover art, which echoes The Wailers’ Rastaman Vibration cover. Yet the DNA of these songs, and a key to their endurance, draws on a classic Motown Records/Stax Records sound that showcases Hill’s immaculate vocal approach; the layered “Doo Wop (That Thing)” alone won her two of the five Recording Academy / GRAMMYs [awards] she took home in 1999, a validation of the freshness of her sound, as well as the way her music spoke to the emergent feminism of the Hip-Hop Generation.
The vulnerability in Miseducation’s singles is often discussed, but Hill’s concerns, and powers, were multivalent. Once a history major at Columbia University, Hill explored her upbringing in Newark New Jersey, with a sharp, subtle sociopolitical eye (“Every Ghetto, Every City,” featuring clavinet from Loris Holland, minister of music at the storied Brooklyn Pilgrim Church) and philosophized on the nature of growing up in a disenfranchised world (“Everything Is Everything,” whose classic ’70s soul sound comes courtesy of a backing band including a then-unknown pianist named John Legend).
Miseducation is also proof that pure intention and unflinching emotional truth can be a path to deliverance unto itself. As Hill raps on the politically charged koan “Everything Is Everything”: “My practice extending across the atlas/I begat this.” She was, and remains, a once-in-a-generation talent whose inspiration, and innovation, can be heard through the decades. Artists exhaust long discographies hoping for a cohesive piece of work resonant enough to reshape culture and inscribe its creator into the pantheon; Lauryn Hill did it in one.
“It’s interesting and very unique for an album to soundtrack your life but be so timeless. Every time you hear it, it feels like the first time…and it touches you in a different way and meets you at a different point in your life. If anyone was to have made one album and that be it, that’s it. That’s the pinnacle.”
— Dua Lipa

We are 100 albums down into the Rolling Stone 500 greatest albums list. I thought I might offer some thoughts so far since, quite obviously, I disagree to some extent with this stupid idiot list. The most important thing to note is that making an objective greatest albums list is futile. What criteria determine that they are the greatest? Most popular? Most influential? Most artistically valid? There are simply no criteria that are subject to the baleful whims of subjectivity. Once the subjective is embraced then making this list is easy, just put anything you like on it. But that clearly isn't what Rolling Stone wants. If it was then they would not have revised it twice. No they want to be as inclusive and diverse as possible. They want some sort of objectivity, but they are limited by their perception. The qualia of any given rolling stone editor is one in which the only mark of significance is popularity in the west, the only influence that matter is influence over white western artists. If they were to be truly honest with themselves the list would just be Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band repeated 500 times. But there is no room for honesty in the wretched hearts of music critics.
The thing that is most obvious is that, although they do mix in a few women and Latino artists, the only marker for diversity they understand is blackness. The overwhelming prominence of Motown and Stax artists on the list is so obviously the result of them simply not knowing that many black artists from outside their comfort zone. So they double dip again and again, choosing albums like Al Green's Greatest Hits and Marvin Gaye's Here My Dear. They could of course be choosing some Asian artists, J-Pop and K-pop have been very popular and influential and City Pop is even surfacing as a popular hipster genre in the west. Why ignore these? It's because they don't see any music that didn't hit the UK or US as being culturally relevant.
There is another marker for diversity though. One that I think is almost more offensive to have ignored if only because this is a music publication talking about music. Genre. Rock, prog, punk, funk, disco, pop, R&B, Hip-hop, all represented here. But there has only been one metal album and literally zero electronic music. No house, techno, drum and bass, jungle, juke, dubstep, riddim, trance, there are so many subsets of electronic music that should be represented here. Show me Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins, Carl Craig. Show me Aphex Twin, Autechre, Plaid. Orbital, The Field, Shpongle, Laurel Halo, Alec Empire! For the love of God show me anything! But what would old men who suckle upon the cock of John Lennon know of electronic music. Electronic music is fundamentally black, and it only really goes on to heavily influence other black music. The reality of all that Motown on this list is that it influences white people and is therefore valid. Keep that in mind and the list becomes easier to understand. If you see anything other than a cisgender white male artist on here then you can safely assume they must have been influencial to some other cis white guy.

Dear J. Hopper,
I’m not sure I understand your answer. You are featuring a rockstar in your magazine yes? One who has surely done racy pictures before.
My client ziggy, is more than happy to pay top dollar for such photos of Mr. Munson.
We encourage you to please reconsider
Thanks again in advance, 💵 💵
Definitely not ziggy no way,
Tumblr media
Dear, whoever.
Listen, kid, reading comprehension is apparently not your strong suit. Munson is a sound engineer. Why don't you go to West Loop and ask him for dirty pictures. I got work to do.
