Penny Valley Profile: The Railway
The Penny Valley Railway is a heritage railway in South-West England. The line runs from a shared station with Network Rail at Totnes down through Rattery, Avonwick and Ivybridge before reaching the town of Plymouth. Through Plymouth, the rails run parallel to the main line, sharing Plymouth Station and Dockyard Station with Network Rail, the PVR sometimes receives freight contracts from the various shipping companies in the docks, giving the resident pair of heavy freight engines something to do. Beyond Dockyard Station, the railway follows the mainline as far as the River Tamar before it branches off, having a completely separate stationof it's own in Saltash. From there, the railway finally reaches it's namesake town of Penny. From Penny, a line branches off to the towns of Tillworth and St. Harriet’s, with a colliery at the bottom of a 5-mile 1:50 gradient at the end of the line.
The line began life as the Penny & Tillworth Railway Company in 1864 running between the towns of Penny and Tillworth with an extension to St. Harriet’s to profit from the colliery. At the 1923 the grouping, it was absorbed into the Great Western Railway and all of the company's original designs were sold for scrap, by which time it had grown to it's full length. In 1948, the line was nationalised under the Western Region of British Railways. In 1964, the line was declared redundant and closed to traffic. A small group of volunteers, not willing to let their railway die away, rallied in the town of Penny in 1965, selecting the wealthy business partners of Mr. Jones Luke and Mr. Stephen Hughes. The pair had made their fortune in the shipping industry and had always wanted to move into railways. With countless long hours from the volunteers and thousands upon thousands of pounds, the railway opened again in 1967, the first train being hauled by a banged-up, raggedy Caledonian 264 by the name of Craig. From there, the railway's fleet grew and grew, but that's a story for another time.

Hello! My name is Eri and I am here to share some of my artwork and writing! I am currently working on a historical sci-fi novel called "Stars Rain Down on Thee," and I would like to start sharing things about it, starting with one of my main characters, Pauline Farthing.
She is the daughter of a bookkeeper, and is caught in the midst of an alien invasion- these aliens are not intelligent or even entirely sentient; rather, they are beast-like and eat people just in order to survive.
Some less essential facts: Pauline lives in Ivybridge. At the time in which this novel takes place (1899), Ivybridge was a civil parish; it was not officially a town and hosted a very small population. Ivybridge is located in the Devon area of England, the accent of which I find very charming! She has two younger siblings, Harvey and Ethel, who she cares for very deeply, as she played a major role in rasing them.
I do plan on spouting lots of fun tidbits about my work here... it would be nice to get some people interested in a book, cause MAN they are one hell of an undertaking.

amelie fairchild was born into the esteemed fairchild family, inheriting a sweetness of character that endeared her to all who knew her.
her journey began with promise and anticipation as she was betrothed to a suitor in the bustling heart of london, leaving her family's estate to meet him. yet, her path diverged drastically from societal expectations.
tragedy struck during her journey to london when amelie fell victim to a sinister plot orchestrated by those harbouring malice towards her family. kidnapped and held captive, she endured months of uncertainty and fear, her gentle spirit tested by the cruelty of her captors.
after almost two years, amidst the darkness, a glimmer of hope emerged as amelie managed to escape through sheer determination and courage, fleeing into the unknown countryside. alone and afraid, fate intervened in the form of a man whose profession was to find the lost or missing. the man stumbled across her taking rest in an inn, weary and dishevelled yet unbowed in spirit. he guided her back to the safety of her family's embrace. though physically free, the scars of her ordeal ran deep, casting a shadow over her once bright demeanour.
however, despite their joy at her return, amelie's parents were desperate to find her a suitor, especially now with her age and reputation. tasked once more with finding a suitable match, amelie grappled with newfound doubts and insecurities. the betrayal she endured had shaken her faith in others, leaving her wary of forming connections lest history repeat itself.
𝐕𝐈…𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 !
her past suitor: the man who she was destined to wed before her kidnapping. the two never met face to face, but had communicated through letters. amelie is unsure whether he loathes her for vanishing, or has moved on to find a new bride.
the man who found her: a newfound friend in a time of great strife, he was paid by her family to find her - and that he did. though it took her a long time to trust him, amelie now considers him one of the only people she trusts. // taken by hamish @scftlxves
