I have a laxeel-ish au in the back of my brain where Laxus and Gajeel happen to cross paths while doing different jobs when they're teenagers. The fairy tail / phantom lord rivalry is only escalating and they're very well aware, but they're both so rebellious that they hang around just to spite it.
They'd be the absolute worst influences on each other, a situationship straight outta hell. They meet up specifically to cause problems on purpose and make as many recklessly bad decisions as possible. They're perfect enablers and they insist they hate everything else about each other and only like fucking with them. They're on the exact same wavelength of hating everyone and wanting to burn the world down.
Repressed, spiteful, traumatized Laxus is ravenous for the relief of someone egging on his bitter impulses, who appreciates that he gets to make his own choices, and that includes destructive ones. He rants about Ivan and Makarov and instead of getting pity or being brushed off, Gajeel's like "yeah, fuck those guys they sound like pieces of shit, do you wanna go burn down a dark guild base with me to make their lives a little harder???"
Around him, Laxus can shrug off the social pressure he struggles with because Gajeel makes a point of being an even more unpalatable freak, they don't care at all what the other one does, and Laxus gives 0 fucks about impressing him.
Even when he won't acknowledge how bad of an environment phantom lord is for him, Gajeel wants to get out of the guild whenever possible. When he turns up in rough shape, no matter how bad or apparent, Laxus doesn't get on his case or ask intrusive questions that would sooner drive him off than change his mind, so he gets some breathing room he feels like he can actually count on.
He's unfazed by Gajeel, doesn't care, so he doesn't look at him in disgust like so many others, appalled by him in many ways he's earned, but in others he never deserved. The excuse to act out and cause hell with Laxus gives Gajeel a taste of independence and confidence he's desperate for.
They get black out drunk together. They beat each other up. They skinny dip. They cause untold property damage. They always side with each other. They get banned from 2/3 of the bars in Fiore. They scare people so bad they won't gossip about them so no one knows any of this. They're always at each other's throats and swear they hate each other, but never doubt that they'll come together in their love of bullying someone else. The pair of them can scathe and intimidate a person into anything, an utterly ruthless and unhinged duo of assholes.
There's some kinda tension going on, but any real intimacy would require a degree of coherence that they definitely don't have. Gajeel says he's down to fuck and Laxus really isn't, very on edge when he says it. But he doesn't press, just looks him over and goes "mmm... yeah, figures" and Laxus is immediately trying to strangle him to death anyway.
At some point they end up getting arrested by the magic council for the longest, most absurd laundry list of charges imaginable. One thing went south then, 3 days later, they've broken laws nobody knew existed. Makarov comes with bail and they're handcuffed together, less than fully clothed, covered in dirt, confetti, and an uncomfortable amount of blood. Catastrophe level situationship. Less for them than for everyone else.
#do you See my vision???#fairy tail#laxeel#laxus dreyar#gajeel redfox#i didnt have anything better to do today man#new trope- childhood enemies#gajeel for sure pierces laxuss ears and thank god hes good at it bc they were both So drunk#its half a miracle he didnt botch it

Given the lack of participation (or general clarity), what is Ivan after? What's his purpose in opening Raven Tail?
This is a great question!
Canon never gives us any reason of why Ivan was excommunicated, how his relationship with Makarov was before, how the guildmaster/mage relationship affected their father/son relationship. All we know is that they definitely do not get along by the time in canon, Makarov is lowkey obsessed with what Ivan is up to (as much as Ivan is lowkey obsessed with what Makarov is up to) but doesn't know. Ivan apparently has some secrets he doesn't reveal, but somehow knows. And I think if we look at what we do know through Laxus' POV and the relationship with Makaorv and Laxus, the one with Makarov and Ivan must have been somehow even worse. I think, for Makarov, he's trying to learn from his mistakes with Ivan re: Laxus but he ends up excommunicating Laxus anyway! Which, I think punishment was needed, but for some reason excommunication means...banishment from the city? From your support system? (Which imo, Laxus needed post-Fantasia.) Why does being fired from your job mean leaving the city you were born and raised in? Anyway. There are all these little bits and pieces that are mentioned but never brought up again.
I think that, like canon states, Ivan made Raven Tail to get at Makarov. I don't think his overall grudge is with the Fairy Tail members (def not at his own child or other children) but it is focused on Makarov and Makarov is so attached to Fairy Tail. Makarov is the son of one of the founders, we know his mom died when Makarov was young and that his dad died as well. So his attachment to the guild on a deeply personal level was set up from the time he was very young. Ivan would know this. Ivan lived this. I do think, just like it affected Makarov&Laxus, it affected Makarov&Ivan. So going after the thing Makarov cares the most about — Fairy Tail — is the correct move. Ivan wants to destroy everything Makarov cares about as punishment for his bad decisions re: Ivan and also, in my canon, he holds Makarov responsible as GM for the death of his wife, Leona. Ivan is driven by vengeance and well, hatred for Makarov and that poisons other connections to Fairy Tail, like Laxus.
However, what it ends up becoming is a guild filled with people who are negatively affected by society in some way. Flare was an outcast by virtue of have one of the most unique life experiences of growing up in a hidden village of Giants. Sadly, she's the only RT member we get a full backstory on, but I don't think she's the only one in the guild to have a life like that. Look at Nullpudding. He is clearly Not fully human, neither is Obra. And we see in other arcs how Others are treated (Galuna arc, they assumed the curse turned them into Demons, when the curse turned them into humans but they're happier in their Demonic form!) Honestly, I think this part of it goes back to Zeref and his hmm. Actions. And how it shaped the magical population's reputation in the sea of non magical people. But that's a sidebar of this conversation.
Raven Tail, in practice, becomes a place for Others to gather. As a dark guild, what did they accomplish, lmao? They weren't apart of the Dark Guild alliance, they didn't terrorize people of Fiore. It was really easy for them to become legitimate in canon because it happened three months before the GMG. In a hilarious way, they are like an edgier Fairy Tail.
I would also like to point out the fact that in chapter....2 of the manga, I beleive, Makarov scolds a bunch of members (Natsu, Cana, Gray etc) for their destruction before burning up the council paperwork. And like...I think if they're causing That much destruction...there probably are Raven Tail members who dislike Fairy Tail because they may have been negatively impacted by their destructive tendencies. And some of that cannot be canon div'd away because its a core canon aspect of the guild. So, the members are a mixed lot!
Overall, I jokingly call Raven Tail "Daddy Issues But Make It a Guild" and this is parts of the reason for that.
edit: im just now realizing that hilariously, Phantom Lord does worse things to Fairy Tail in canon and Phantom Lord was a legitimate guild!
#pretiumus#ooc: jackie#i honestly dont know how to tag this but i think ill place it in my hc and canon div tags so i can easily find it#and others in case they want to know my thoughts#but thank you for this!#i hope this makes sense! i do fear i rambled#🕊: and so — the murder has come / raven tail#🕊: thirty years of disagreements at your desk / canon div#🕊: if you think you can save me — i’d dare you to try / hc#🕊: p: if only i knew then what i know now / makarov

The Eastern Continent: Xuěhuā (雪花); Also called Snowflake. Laxus's mother is from here.
Despite the multitude of languages and cultures within this continent, there is only one country. Several generations of royalty and nobles have attempted to divide the country between themselves, but it never lasts more than seven years. The people do not like being kept from one another after the Vanished War of x041.
The cultures and languages are widely shared throughout Xuěhuā, but there are still more of some in certain areas. Southwest houses Indians, southeast has more Nepali, northeast is primarily Chinese, northwest is home to Thai, the central mountains have Koreans, and the islands and most coasts were the birthplace of Filipino, Vietnamese, and Japanese. Though, there is more minutia to it.
Laxus Dreyar was born in his maternal grandparent's house, the Hou (우) Estate, when his mother, Nejire (ねじれ), was visiting from Fiore. Ivan wasn't present for the birth, for he was 'on a quest' when Nejire went to Xuěhuā. In reality, he was trying to find something incriminating to get Makarov to resign from his spot as the Guild Master.
Nejire, after divorcing Ivan when Laxus was six, resides with her parents and used to get Laxus for half of the year. After Ivan implanted the Lacrima in his son, he tried to keep Laxus from his mother... against court orders. Nejire was able to raise him for two years in Xuěhuā before her son wanted to stay primarily in Fiore with his gramps. With Ivan out of Magnolia, she had no reason to deny him. But she made sure he had her big black coat with fur lining the edges—something she started working on when they were free of Ivan, with the materials from the three main cultures she grew up in.
She regrets that, years later, when Macao Conbolt knocked on her door and informed her that Laxus was killed with the total destruction of Tenrou Island.
The moment she heard he was back, Nejire sailed to Fiore and stayed in Magnolia until Tartaros was finished, where she went back to Xuěhuā and dragged Laxus and his team with her for a month.
After the timeskip, Nejire is twenty-seven years older than Laxus. Her storm-travel magic was useful on quests and not so much in a civilian's life, but she's figured out a good way to tie it in with her herbalist job. She's never remarried and never had another child. Well, so long as the little girl who kept stealing from her garden actually goes back to the small town at the river mouth when she's done healing. She's getting too old for rambunctious kids; It's half the reason she never rejoined Fairy Tail!
(map creation link btw. i added the legend in mspaint lmao.)
#i made the map bc i was extremely bored and then thought. hey. i have a headcanon blog#surely this fits there lmao#i dont think this gets the main tag but if people think otherwise i can add it#fairy tail headcanons#laxus dreyar#fairy tail original character#original character#ohtobe hou nejire#anyway i just wanted to name laxus's mom

Scar anon again I'm so sorry for sending consecutive asks but mashima really made the coolest dude + team ever (laxus n the raijinshuu in case it wasn't obvious) and then refused to elaborate like???good sir I would have paid for a full series of Them?? The raijinshuu are so criminally underutilised like I want to know their backstories!! I want to know how they came to join fairy tail!!! I start frothing at the mouth everytime I think about how mashima did the raijinshuu so dirty esp during the Tartarus arc ;- ; anyways sorry for the rant it's like 4 am and I'm having many Thoughts ok that's all from me for real this time 👍🏼 peace!
Everything after Tartarus is my villain origin story lol, not even joking. It's so messy.
Im not singing praises for everything before it ofc there was some jank from beginning to gmg but after tartarus' end the story and characterization really seemed to start coming apart at the seams and it really tanked everything even though at that stage mashima's art was 10/10. Which is a shame bcus tartarus really was a step in the right direction tonally but it just stopped right there. Copped a massive W then tossed it out for consecutive L's.
But yea man! Laxus and his squad! Laxus will forever be a sorta sore spot for me because of the dropped Dreyar family plot thread. The whole dealio with Ivan, Makarov sending Gajeel to spy on him, Laxus' lone adventures. It really could've culminated in either a small side arc or a B-plot of an already existing arc
(I personally would add it into Tenrou. Take Gajeel off tenrou to have him doin his spy gig, accidentally meet up with Laxus during that, plot details regarding the dreyar family happen all while the events of tenrou go down. The duo gets wind of Grimoire Heart heading to tenrou from Raven Tail due to all dark guilds sharing info. The duo head over to tenrou post haste and allowing gajeel to carry out the iconic gajevy moment where he saves her and justifying why Laxus ended up on Tenrou instead of just randomly showing up at the nick of time. But alas, details lol)
Thunder Legion's always been interesting to me though. I'll admit i dont think about them often but they are a pretty unique squad with varying personalities across the board that, on paper, you probs wouldn't expect em to be friends, let alone friends that close and loyal to one another.
Their magics are also a main point of interest because it really is so out there. Freed in essence has an upgraded solid script (plus those unused transformations the beast lookin one from fantasia and the more streamlined one from tenrou), Evergreen has the petrification magic (alongside her main magic with the energy attacks) and Bickslow? Soul manipulation? That can't be legal man. The magic system in FT is really underexplained and has a anything goes sorta deal (hello summoning gods) but man, i would've loved something there for these 3- power limits or drawbacks, how it works, whether its magic they naturally manifested or learned or both. Something along those lines.
And while i don't think a backstory would've been necessary for them per se, because at the end of the day they still are side characters so relevancy of the information learned throughout the story dictates how much is really needed to be known and this extends to learning about how they joined the guild as well (i personally think they all joined as adults tbh. I know a lotta peeps like to think of em as a teen friendship squad but i really prefer it they were an adult friend group. Having a friendship that strong forming in their 20s feels right to me), but i think even a one line or 2 regarding their pasts could come up in conversation for that information to come up naturally.
Like for eg. Freed gives off rich kid energy, so perhaps he's a runaway rich kid like herself but not from Fiore, that could be revealed in a convo with Lucy at some point to strike common ground between the two. Evergreen feels like an orphaned soul turned away (i personally think she gives off Jessie from pokemon vibes) by others a lot so why not a kinship with her and Juvia or even Mirajane? Bickslow the wild card could spout jokes about his acrobatic skills he learned from being a street performer, just something. They're not perfect concepts no, but they're little ways the characters could've been given even a scrap of info to help learn more about em.
Also uhhhh, it always threw me off that they weren't all S-class wizards so i think it would've been cooler if they were a whole squad of s class wizards who attempted a guild coup instead of just 1 s class and his homies. Aight byeeeeee.
#fairy tail#fairy tail headcanon#thunder legion#raijinshuu#listen man side characters are side characters for a reason ofc but something couldve been done to liven em up yknow?#not leave so much up in the air#or unanswered#but like#ft as a series has so much good elements#good art simple enough premise to garner interest fantastic art cool characters and interesting plot threads#everything just needed proper development and thought with how things were supposed to be pieced together n carried out#and how characters would be handled with some decency#but im ramblim lol

Golden eyes of a dead fish, Gildarts' favorite. Ivan doesn't sleep much (yes I'm self projecting), so he has that bitch face look most of the time. Imagine Gildarts being so cocky, he was the member of a dark guild and now he is the strongest mage in the strongest guild of Fiore, everyone looking at him with admiration or fear, like he’s the god of destruction himself. And then Ivan looks at him like shit (he looks like that at everyone (even when he is standing in front of a mirror)). Poor Gil gets boner every time.

SIMON MIKAZUCHI - Portrayal Notes
About page | Verses | Tags | Carrd | Trivia
Disclaimer: This version of Simon is obviously going to be connected to my own Kagura muse, however, I would of course be open to plotting/developing things with other Kagura muses. Regarding my Kagura, Simon is dead in her main verse, and the ‘Simon survived!’ verse (which is Simon’s main verse) is an alternate timeline. So far, there is one other Alternate verse for them, which is the plotted verse where Kagura and Simon were adopted by Ivan as kids (its not as random as it sounds, trust me).
Canon Divergences:
Yes, he did have feelings for Erza when they were young. He developed a crush on her long before they were at the Tower, back in Rosemary village. However, during the rebellion at the Tower where Erza was leading the charge to rescue Jellal and free everyone from the cultists, Simon did not stop Erza to ask if she ‘likes’ Jellal.
In his main verse, as Simon’s obviously not dead, the nature of the Historia magic used by Neinhart in the Alvarez arc is altered. The magic does ‘peer into the hearts and reveal those who have had significant impact’, but it is not limited to showing the deceased, however Neinhart did lead Erza, Kagura, and Jellal to believe that it was, they still faced a replication/illusion of Simon.
Magic and abilities:
Due to his heritage as part of the Raijavin clan, he has a natural resistance towards lightning based magics. More importantly, he has inherited the innate ability of Energy Absorption that occurs each in generation within the clan. This ability allows him to absorb energy and either disperse it or use it to fuel his own attacks.
The Instant Darkness spell he is seen using in canon is more him absorbing the ‘light’ energy in the area.
He can use Telepathy, per canon, however it is a somewhat limited range. The stronger his emotional connection is to the person, the wider and stronger range he has with connecting to them.
Most of his attacks revolve around redirecting the magic or energy of the enemy and firing it back at them, or through direct attacks of pure energy or lightning.
Simon survives! How?
When he put himself in front of Erza to shield her from Jellal’s attack, he was aware that he was weakened already but did believe that his ability to absorb energy would allow him to withstand the attack (that being said, he was at peace with the possibility that he would not survive). He had never tried to take on so much magical energy before, it overwhelmed him, and he did seem to die.
Some of wild magic from the Etherion then flooded him and charged him further, yet this wakened him enough that he was able to assist with directing the energy back to the sky (part of him was aware of Jellal’s efforts too). Overrun by energy, Simon then fell into a magic induced coma, and some time later washed up on shore far from where Erza and the others had ended up. As far as Erza and the others were concerned, Simon died when hit by Jellal’s spell.
The people who found him took him to their local hospital/healers. When it became apparent that he wasn’t going to be waking up anytime soon, he was moved to a smaller wing. Certain healers became interested in his case and the sheer amount of magic he still contained. Over time, one healer discovered a way to siphon magic from him, however their intentions were not good. In secret, they began to slowly drain magic from him for their own purposes.
One of the nurses caring for Simon became aware of what was happening and wouldn’t stand for it. She contacted Hibiki, as she knew him and could count on his discretion. Hibiki made Master Bob aware of the situation and they arranged for Simon to be moved to a specialised location under their protection. The nurse came along to continue to care for Simon, and the wretched healer got what he deserved, Master Bob made sure of it.
Simon remained comatose until late X791, when the events of Tartaros ravaged Fiore. The activation of the Face system, while incredibly dangerous, was what brought Simon back – it’s draining of magic removed the excess that he still held.
Upon waking, his memories were a haze, events were simply flashes in his mind and nothing seemed coherent. Master Bob, who had a vested interest in him partly as he suspected he was connected to the Tower and his old friend Rob, helped him find his feet. It took several months for Simon to regain his physical dexterity and to begin putting the pieces of his mind back together.
By mid X792, his memories returned, and his physical strength was back to top form. He was soon told of Kagura and wanted to meet her, however the war with Alvarez disrupted those plans. He was in Blue Pegasus’ town of Dahlia during most of the fighting, helping where he could.
In the months after the war, he finally reunited with Kagura, along with Millianna.
Notes:
He essentially lost 8 years while working for Jellal on the Tower, then lost another 7 in a coma, then another 1 regaining his strength and memories. He has missed out on so much of his life and is now trying to figure out who he is and what he wants to do now. He obviously wants to stay close to Kagura and Millianna, and they want him close too, yet they’re all aware that he needs to live his own life too.
In regards to Erza, of course he wants to see her again, she is still important to him, but I will leave the reconnection with her and other FT members up to plotting, so by default, he has not seen any of them (in person) since the events at the Tower.
He has been doing a lot of travelling around Fiore and helping out with the rebuild. His travels have taken him recently to Carnation Town, where he has helped with the repairs and renovation of the Phoenix Dawn guildhall. The guildmaster, Frankie, asked him if he wanted to join the guild, he’s considering it. The town itself isn’t too far from Lotus town, where Mermaid Heel is based.
Physical notes:
As a result of his inherent Energy Absorption ability, which was triggered during puberty, he is of very large stature (even without this ability, he would have been taller than average, his sister is also tall, as was their parents). He is 7’1”, broad shouldered, and muscular, a giant of a man.
During the revolt at the Tower in his youth, he received a direct attack to his face. This damaged his jaw/chin badly and also caused him to lose his left eye.
However, during his years in a coma, the healers were able to repair the damage done to the lower half of his face. As a result, he no longer requires the metal brace.
As he had been stuck with the metal brace for many years, it was too strange for him to no longer have it. The slight scarring under his chin was also something he’d rather not have exposed. So, to give himself a measure of security, he has grown some facial hair.
During his years in a coma, his hair grew quite long. The nurse caring for him did cut it for him every so often, but never cut it shorter than shoulder length. He has decided to keep it long, and has it tied back. His hair is dark brown and thick.
When he was recovering and slowly regaining memories after waking, he was visited by Porlyusica, who had been informed about him and his situation by Master Bob. She was able to create an artificial eye for him, just as she had done for Erza. The dark gold of his irises is hard to replicate exactly, so the artificial eye is a dark hazel. The difference is only really noticeable if one gets very close to him, or the lighting hits a certain way. While his eye has been replaced, he does however, still have the scar cutting down from his eyebrow to cheekbone.
Another effect of his Energy Absorption ability is that his body temperature is always much higher than the average persons, he feels rather feverish to the touch. This is why he tended not to wear a shirt during the years working on the Tower. Master Bob, through his connections with a tailor that specialises in magical fabrics, has helped Simon get clothes that both fit his ginormous body and help regulate his temperature. On that note, Simon does prefer to wear more loose fitting and lightweight clothes (he loves a good linen shirt now).
#portrayal notes#i was gonna do an icon banner for him like ive been doing for others#but tbh ive changed his appearance so much from canon#the icons i have of him just arent relevant anymore#¯\_(ツ)_/¯#simon deserves to be Healed in all ways and have a good life
