My latest Itafushi procrastination drawing—I swear I need a portfolio at this point 😂

Chapter 9 of Peaches and Lone Wolf is in the final edit stage, but it took longer than expected because I wrote like 5 different versions of it and then I got writers block so I decided to start another JJK Itafushi fic that I’ve been thinking about for the last 5 months. The struggle is real.

Idk why, but I can totally picture them using their limited free time to go get food. In my mind, Yuji would pig out while Megumi would probably just get coffee or tea (because everything else would make his stomach hurt) and 100% fall asleep because he’s sleep deprived 😂 then Yuji wouldn’t wake him because he wants Megumi to catch up on sleep.

You know what I love, when fandoms have fics that are fully flushed-out storylines that are occasionally better than the source material. Like No Paths Are Bound, and The Rigel Black Chronicles, were godsends.

I firmly believe that every fandom should have a fic that the whole fandom knows that takes place in-universe.

Like if I see another person say that the ultimate Klance fic is Dirty Laundry I'm gonna flip my shit, like no 😭😭, I want something that's long, in-universe, the fan-favorites survive, the characters are flushed out, and it doesn't completely forget about the other characters.

the people (megumi fans or me) need to start writing the character study fics because clearly gege is not interested in delving into anything megumi related in a meaningful way (tsumiki, toji, gojo, etc)

I'm actually gonna use this ask to talk about how apart from megumi and yuuji, no relationship megumi has is truly elaborated in full capacity. tsumiki isn't even her own character so all we know of their relationship is that they only had each other and what megumi thinks of her, and we can barely piece together what tsumiki thought of megumi (not from her obviously)

the complete lack of dynamic with sukuna despite the build-up for it.

no solid dynamic with nobara, either. while megumi and yuuji and nobara and yuuji both respectively have their "special" moment and dynamic (itafushi's "save me" and itakugi's "we're accomplices, aren't we?") nobara and megumi don't have that. the only two times they have an isolated conversation, it's both about yuuji. in the first one, they mourn yuuji and then never show them actually getting closer beyond that, and in the second it's megumi talking about the fingers and how he doesn't want to tell yuuji. and I would've said it was special that he's trusting her with a secret, but it barely holds up when it's still about yuuji. they don't have anything that only they have and it's frustrating.

and while I'm not really toji's biggest fan, I don't like how that relationship was concluded with barely a letter only saying gojo killed him and that's it. that's such an underwhelming way to handle it but I digress. I was never really of the belief that megumi knowing about toji would change anything, but i would've liked megumi express what he actually thinks about this. a laugh doesn't really tell me anything. is it because it's so ridiculous? is it because it doesn't matter to him (lie)? is it because of the way the letter is presented? what does he truly think about the fact that his dad is dead? we never get an answer, and it's a consistent problem with megumi too.

and gojo. oh where do i begin with gojo. his relationship with megumi is so intruiging and it's a damn fucking shame it's never elaborated on. I know sometimes people say "it's not underdeveloped you're just overestimating it. they're nothing more than teacher-student" but I disagree with this. it's much more than just a teacher-student relationship. it's so complex and multi-layered but it's never elaborated on beyond speculation. all we have of their dynamic is gojo telling megumi about this latent "potential" he has. and that's it. though I'm maybe holding out on this because of him seeing yuuta in gojo's body next chapter so maybe we'll get an elaboration but I still wouldn't hold my breath over it. the fact he doesn't react to gojo's death either is driving me insane. nor is the whole yuuta thing, either. but it still doesn't negate the fact that they... barely have any scenes together so their dynamic is always up for interpretation. and this ambiguity would work if they both weren't very important characters to the story that take the center stage most times.

it just seems gege didn't care about his relationships that much and it makes it all so... half-assed.

6. Which ship fans are the most annoying?

For both fandoms, I can find anyone annoying no matter specifically what they ship. Now, if I had to be specific, it has to be people who hate on a ship who are clearly just homophobic.

I recently had been called an "imbecile" by someone over an innocent ItaFushi post and found out they found the ship "diabolical".

Twice, one for each fandom, I made a post about F/F ships and someone had to bring up a M/F ship. Honey, please, I don't care. BEGONE, HEATHEN!

But again, no matter what they ship, if they annoy me, they annoy me.

7. What character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because of how the fandom acts about them?

Okay, for MHA, I don't actually hate Hawks. I'm more so indifferent with him even when he did appear. However, sometimes in fandom, I find his presence annoying. Especially, whenever Miruko is involved. I was recently salty for a week because for the Miruko tags, it his face there and the artwork centered around him.

Like, no, last time I checked Miruko was a bunny woman. Not a blond bird man whose jacket I have a disdain for.

I even once wrote a fic out of spite because someone said something about Miruko and hyped up Hawks and I'm like "She didn't do anything to warrant this slander but alright". Ever since then, Hawks would sometimes be the butt monkey in my fics. I actually was thinking about doing a sequel to that fic, too.

For JJK, it only recently became Yuta. Now, unlike Hawks, I don't actually not feel anything towards Yuta. I do like him.

However, I have a deep seething hatred for those who constantly bash Yuji to hype him up. Yuta is cool, but he is not that fucking cool to bash Yuji. Come on now. I hate it whenever I go on a post anywhere and someone will talk about Yuji's accomplishments or just only mention Yuji and some assholes will be like "well, Yuta this" and "Yuta that". Yuta is rocking the teenage boy version of Yuji's mom's haircut, so stop.

9. Worst part of canon?

Okay, did Miruko have to lose 3 of her limbs? Her arm? I was fine with that. A leg, I was actually confused for a while as to how she even lost it until I went back and saw what happened but I don't think she should have completely cut it off. 😭 Her other arm? Okay... her and Edgeshot are definitely the Heroes who lost the most in the final war. Mind you, Miruko's Quirk has her use her limbs. I'm glad she got her a little bazooka in the end, but she low-key sacrificed a lot more than other Heroes.

I actually wrote a fic addressing that because I'm salty about it. It was my recent Miruko-centric fic.

Okay, for JJK... do I have anything? Nothing really actually aggravated me... okay, I think Choso shouldn't have died. Or Yuki. I think about them and start punching the air.

10. Worst part of fanon?

Where to begin here? I feel like there are so many things.

For JJK, I low-key have a disdain for the first person who misinterpreted Gojo would be a fucking playboy. Like, no he wouldn't be in a committed relationship because he can't be loyal because "he's a man, he has needs" or whatever bullshit reason. It's because he's a jujutsu sorcerer! And one of the busiest ones in top of that! Hell, we just found out what his schedule looks like, he wouldn't have time to commit!

There's also how dumb some people tend to make Yuji. Like... he's dumb, he even admits it but I think it's just more so that he's not motivated to learn certain things and he just thinks he is. He's smarter than what he (and the fandom) gives him credit for.

And some of the memes? Don't find funny at all. I actually got tired of the "Nah, I'd win" memes I kept seeing. And how Yuta would make fun of someone for having "No bitches". That's stupid, I hate it.

For MHA, again some memes I just don't find funny. Recently any meme I see about "Midoriya being a fast food worker", who makes them instantly has me wishing they step on a Lego. And just saying, fast food workers have probably done more for anybody than certain people. Or that "Katsuki stole Ochako" from him is definitely a case of "those are OCs with the same name" because we know damn well canon Katsuki ain't touching Ochako like that with even a ten foot long pole and vice versa on her end.

Playboy Katsuki? Yeah, not really my favorite portrayal of him in fiction like that. I can see him being very popular and having a lot of girl fans because that's canon, it makes sense. But hooking up with a lot of people? And using it as some "escape" or whatever? Yeah... eh...

Also, sometimes I feel like folks want to use that "Black Best Friend" trope on Miruko whenever it comes to Hawks and DabiHawks. Like, she got to be his hype man or something. The idea doesn't appeal to me really.

Hot take: ion like most of the MLM ships in JJK. Not because they are MLM, I myself am a more masculine leaning NB who's moreso attracted to men than anyone else. But my issue is that when y'all make these ships, y'all be mischaracterizing THE HELL out of the characters or just reusing the same damn trope for every damn fic. Emphasis on ItaFushi and Satosugu. Like no bro, Yuji is not a "lil baby 🥺" he is 16 and can hold his own. Not every single gay man is a "pure baby who can do no wrong". They are normal niggas at the end of the day, they're just gay (or whatever sexuality they are). (I never usually have a problem with Megumi in these fics, so imma leave him alone.)

And Satosugu fans, please stop making EVERYTHING ANGST. Make something happy for five seconds. JJK in itself is already bout depressing as hell, why are you making excessive angst of it 🧍🏽‍♀️. And then the worst part, is that WHEN YALL MAKE THESE ANGST FICS, YALL MAKE GETO'S WHOLE CHARACTER ARC BEING GOJO'S EX BOYFRIEND- that shit be BLOWING ME.

When I first search for JJK fics, somehow in most fics, Yuuji only tops when he is with Megumi. And I'm not fan of that ship (don't mean anything negative, just not a fan of ItaFushi ship). So, I'll always be grateful to you for top Yuuji in GoYuu and SukuIta. Thanks 🤩🥰🌻

Do you remember that joke "Yuuji is born to be in shoujo forced to be in shounen"?

One of my dear moot share their fav meta. Here are not a full meta but some points :

"A shoujo heroine often isn't the brightest when it comes to school stuff, or strongest in terms of physical strength, if there's magic involved her powers usually don't seem to be the most devastating in their effects. What she will usually have is an ability to deliver moments of very high vulnerability. She will also usually have a huge heart and ability to bring people together. These 3 combined is how she usually will win fights. A shounen character often can also have the last two, but usually the vulnerability he delivers is a bit one note, sometimes feels almost performative... And the shounen character uses his vulnerability moment to charge the final attack while a shoujo heroine can win just through being vulnerable.

Yuuji is built around his very strong humanity, his compassion. It's in his name. He is extremely good at delivering moments of devastating vulnerability, moments that are not power ups for him at all. He's also built around his loneliness and desire for connection, for being surrounded by people. He's very people oriented, has a warm personality and brings people together. He's capable of deep compassion and love. He has very high emotional intelligence. And he's capable of winning a fight through that alone, actually.

If you apply shounen logic to JJK you get all those fans shitting on Yuuji because he's not the strongest. Because he doesn't have flashy powers like Gojou or Sukuna or Megumi. The cold takes like: "he loses several battles, omg he's not really the protagonist", or "he doesn't get amazing power ups", or "he's not driven to be the strongest, he's not proactive in achieving some lofty goals, climbing to the top of the hierarchy", etc. etc. blah, blah.

However if you apply a more shoujo logic to JJK, Yuuji is the clear and only protagonist. He's the heart of the story, he's the most people-oriented, relationship-oriented, vulnerable character. People are drawn to his warmth, not his power (Toudou's fanfiction about Yuuji is about Yuuji being his emotional support, about Yuuji letting Toudou be vulnerable together!).

All of the themes of the story converge onto him. He's emotionally tied to both major villains, and to their victims. His subtle personal, highly vulnerable goal, screams shoujo manga. That's why I call him a shoujo heroine.

This is why it's a bit of a sad joke, because calling Yuuji a shoujo heroine feels a bit like calling him a girl. And while I do it with love, and with my highly internally processed views on gender, I do it in public. I do it on this website where so many people perform a lot of feminism or queer activism in ways that are full of internalised misogyny and queerphobia of various stripes. In a patriarchal society calling a boy a girl is an insult, it's a form of devaluing him because girls are seen as less than. It's implying that he's failing at being a man. And Yuuji gets a lot of shit from the fandom for not being strong enough, for failing as a shounen protag. "

I love Yuuji! There are some part that I agree but mostly (I don't mean to be misogyny) I kinda disagree with the meta above. What do you think?

I started writing for JJK precisely because I could find barely any top!Yuuji for goyuu (and also sukuita, nanaita, etc.), and I was hoping I'd be able to feed the people who were similarly deprived. This piece of meta has been haunting me even though I blocked the OP (for unrelated reasons, but I'd have blocked them for this take alone if I'd ever seen it in the wild), and man, if I never see or hear a single word about this post again, I'll die happy.

This isn't a dig at you, anon. But this is the kind of meta that I wouldn't even counter, just block on the spot, because it's that fucking bad. It took me four or five tries to read the full thing because I kept getting secondhand embarrassment from reading it. On top of that, I have zero respect for this person's meta, especially concerning Yuuji, and that's going to color my perceptions of anything I know is from them.

So I'll summarise my take on fucking "shoujo heroine Yuuji" very, very briefly because I don't have time to waste on this:

It's utter hogwash that's reductive and ignorant in terms of both gender perceptions and genre conventions. I disagree with the premise itself. There's no need to apply shoujo logic to conceptualize Yuuji as the protagonist because he is blatantly in the tradition of shonen protagonists already. I find the arguments unconvincing and unsupported by canon, with regard to both JJK as well as larger shoujo and shonen tropes. Finally, there is some incredible irony in OP accusing other people in fandom (or Tumblr in general) of having internalized misogyny and queerphobia.

As for your concern—disagreeing with this meta doesn't make you misogynistic, anon. It means you have functional brain cells.
