my dad was on his best behavior tonight. i met him and his new wife. he has a white beard now and looks like every grizzled fisherman in an old sea myth. it was awkward but my siblings carried the conversation (as i was typing that sentence, my sister called to debrief and said "yeah, that was my goal, just to keep talking.") my dad's new wife repeatedly hassled both of my siblings about settling down and having kids, but left me alone, presumably because i'm Butch Dyke. my brother mentioned doing volunteer work with foreign students at college and she went, "oh, are they illegals?" which was the only really nasty reminder of Who These People Are. then when my brother said he'd been talking to a friend, she went, "oh, a giiiiirl?" and he got the meanest look on his face and flatly went, "no. they're nonbinary." truly taking one for the team in terms of being the most problematic one at the dinner table.

dad told several stories about when i was in elementary school, since that's the last time i was his daughter. he reminded me that a lot of who i am now comes directly from him in ways that aren't Always bad. he was the one who told me to beat the shit out of anyone who harassed me or my friends. he was the one who taught me how to fight. he was the one who impressed upon me that i'm ruthless before i'm ever a woman, however much he may regret that now.

i put on my best high-pitched all-american cheerleader appeasement voice for all of dinner, and his wife said, "oh, you sound just like your mother! your voice.... it's so strange" thank you ma'am. it's because my mother and i both know how to win.

Father’s Day

2 hours late but here is my finished picture for Father’s Day, featuring Howdy Pillar, his dad Biya Pillar, and my Bellflower and Howdy first born sons Caidan and Milkweed Pillar-Bat. Pictured here the boys are not even a month old yet and as you can see the two looked a like as very young babies and only as the months progress do they start showing differences in their looks. Also I did my best to make Howdy look sleep deprived, not just from taking care of twin bat-pillars but also running the Bugdega and getting everything ready for his parents visit for Father’s Day. Biya is the best dad Howdy could ask for, being so help and supporting his son and keeping his two newest grandsons content. Hiya is the one taking the picture of these four while Bellflower is next to her, waiting for the photos to be done so she can get Howdy’s workaholic behind to bed so he can rest while she, Hiya and Biya take care of Caddy and Milkweed and just chat, while also making sure everybody in the neighborhood gets everything they need from the sweetest store. Hope I did these four justice in their looks and poses, I did not know what to do with all those arms Biya and Howdy have, I did my best so please be kind in your critics. Hope everyone had a lovely Father’s Day if you celebrated it with your father/father figures in your lives.

that one scene in gravity falls where stan tells ford mabel and dipper are their younger brothers grandkids. the one scene we see shermie, he is a baby while stan and ford are around 18-19 and we’re just going to say the year is 1970 (or sometime around there). 20 years later (1990) shermie would be 20, and NINE YEARS LATER (1999) dipper and mabel are born. in 2012 (when the show takes place), shermie would be about 40, and he has two 13 year old grandkids ???

lol welcome, new cousin! I won't hand her over but I will share her, she's a pretty great grandma Some more grandma stories: - she calls getting minor but ridiculous injuries "pulling a TJ" (I was ridiculously clumsy as a kid and am still fairly accident-prone) so she'll call me up and say "Do you want to hear about the TJ I just pulled?". Her latest one was trying to dump the kitchen trash into the outdoor trash can without having to take the bag out of the kitchen trash can by hoisting the kitchen trash can up onto her porch railing and "letting gravity help". She fell halfway into the outdoor trash can (she's okay! she was laughing when she called me) - she feeds stray cats (and occasionally accidentally stray raccoons) and works with the local animal shelters to try to get the kittens acclimated to people and adopted, and she mostly names them after characters from old westerns but also treats some of them like a soap opera? She tells me about all the drama going on in the local stray cat population at least once a week - Her best friend since like the 70s was a butch lesbian named Lottie. Lottie was best friends with both my grandparents, and they moved cross country multiple times to be neighbors. Lottie passed away before I was born but my grandma still considers her the best friend she ever had - My grandma was part of a "hair color of the month" club and I genuinely do not know what her natural hair color was before it turned white

i can see penelope naming her daughter agatha because she wants her daughter to be strong and independent, just like lady danbury. lady d and pen don't need to be close for that to work. tho i will forever be mad their relationship was erased from the show.

i don't think pen looks up to lady d very much, though. they don't have a single interaction yet. so for it to make sense, pen and lady d's friendship would need to be included in part 2. but this actually makes me think that maybe instead of jane they could go with violet bc pen does have a relationship with violet in the show and violet's the caring mother that pen never had in portia...
