the raedoran cycle

[Fabin] tilts his head, pressing his forehead to the window frame. “What are dreams like?” he asks quietly.

Emilia sits across from him, watching how his eyes stare through the window but see nothing. She thought he'd left that behind in the weeks and months after their parents were killed, thought the long silences were finally over. She tucks her arms against her sides. “They're...like memories. Only more vivid.”

His fingers close around the hilt of his sword. “What do you dream about?”

She rolls her shoulders. “Places I've never been. Things I've never seen.”

One of his hands presses against the glass. “Do you ever dream of...of humans?”

She studies him with a worried frown. “Is there something you want to talk about?”

He recoils, his expression twisting with anger before it closes off. “No. I'm fine. I don't have dreams.” He turns away from her. “Never mind.”

Emilia sighs. “I talked Muiris down. He doesn't want to kill you anymore.”

“Good for him.”

“You should apologize for breaking his foot.”

Fabin turns to face her again, his eyes wide. “I actually broke it?”

#oh fabin......who are you dreaming about??#could it be.......a pair of grey-eyed sisters..........and a man in a purple cloak...............and a cottage at the edge of the forest???#no obviously it's none of these things. he doesn't have dreams dragons don't have dreams!!#emilia does but that's because she's /weird/ and has that whole red moon thing going for her. fabin is a NORMAL dragon #who has NORMAL feeling about humans. obviously #writeblr #writeblr community #tag game #original fiction #fantasy novel #the raedoran cycle #dragons #fabin #emilia #muiris #(pronounced like “more-eece”)#rb original #fabin dropped a cart of wheat on muiris's foot. muriris is his mentor the local miller and is a grumpy asshole himself #he's the one who gives fabin his sword and teaches him how to use it. this scene takes place about three years after that #anyway one of the reasons i've been struggling with dragons is because the plot is not super action heavy--it's rlly more an emotional dram #it's about two siblings grappling with the aftermath of an ethnic cleansing/massacre that they survived #but not before witnessing their parents' murder #and it hits close to home in a lot of ways that (esp recently) make it very hard to write #but slowly i am getting my head and heart around the plot #(sort of) unrelated but i remember coming up with keelan's general backstory in mid 2023 and then at the end of the year being completely #unable to work on the first chapter of lacuna at all because i would break down crying anytime i tried to put the massacre to words #realizing that's why dragons has been so hard for me is. difficult. because the story feels even more important now. but g-d at what cost

and meanwhile, the three mother-type figures in Adora's life were all key to her to figuring out what she really wanted and who she wanted to be but literally...

Light Hope "died" trying to right a wrong from the PAST

Queen Angella died trying to preserve Adora's PRESENT

and Shadow Weaver died to give Adora a chance at a FUTURE

#I could say this more intelligenty with time but this just occurred to me and I'm making it your problem #Shadow Weaver as the terrifying faceless cloaked figure #then her last words being 'this is only the beginning for you' as she bought them time (in the long and short term)#light hope essentially ending the world because of old programming from a long dead race of colonizers #then letting herself be destroyed over memories that should have been deleted bc she regretted what happened with mara #and the way the way the crystal castle gave you a tour of moments of your past like the first spirit #meanwhile angella was just trying to close the portal to save the present aka the life they had right now #but of course her staying behind completely altered the present for everyone especially glimmer #and meanwhile each of these losses served as key moments in Adora's journey (pos change arc if ur nasty)#and she emerged on the other side realizing it was not too late to change and make a new world #spop #shera #she ra #queen angella #light hope #shadow weaver #adora #a christmas carol #meta #do you see what I'm getting at?#this all started because I was picturing the three of them as ghosts at the end watching her Star wars style

In light of the smoke bombs, I'm now recataloguing some of my previous assumptions [or well, hcs I guess] in this world.

Mainly because when I first read the fact that Cerise's hood enabled her to hide in the shadows, I was like yeah, okay make sense, they're clearly going for Cerise-is-wolf thing here so. Shadowy-cloak makes sense and I simply thought it was isolated to Cerise's hood.

But...the smoke bombs makes me wonder. Did Red just...already have a shadowy cloak?

That she passed down to Cerise?

Why you have a shadowy-cloak, Red? What possible use did you have for it if it wasn't for hiding bodies?

Deciding to go home and read these books has just left me with two thoughts.

One: Confused but intrigued on the lore.

Two: Red is a serial killer.

not me blearily waking up at 5:30am almost in tears bc I had a dream that Ian had apparently been making more little OK KO shorts on the side and the utter joy I was feeling as dream!me was scrambling to find & watch them only to wake up before I could........ :((((
