Ping Pong
Shouto Todoroki didn’t usually stay up late for movie nights.
He didn’t dislike them, not exactly. But sitting shoulder to shoulder with a dozen of his classmates while some chaotic action film blasted in the background never quite felt like his thing.
Still, tonight he was here. Quietly curled into the corner of the common room couch, surrounded by the soft murmur of laughter and the smell of microwave popcorn. Movie night in the dorms had quickly become a Class 1-A tradition. Equal parts chaos, comedy, and camaraderie. Blankets were scattered across the common room floor, snacks were passed around in oversized bowls, and people jostled for prime spots on the couches like their lives depended on it. You had found a spot on the far end of the biggest couch, tucked in beside Todoroki, who had wandered in late after patrol.
Tonight’s pick was some action-heavy film with a romantic subplot, something to appeal to everyone, even if it meant no one was completely satisfied. The film droned on, but the real entertainment came from your classmates making snarky commentary, whispering side conversations, and cracking jokes that made the entire room laugh.
Todoroki found it hard to focus on either.
Not because the movie was bad. Or too loud. Or too long.
But because he was exhausted.
The last few days had been rough on him. Training was getting harder and harder, your coursework was picking up and it was getting harder and harder for him to get a full nights sleep.
He sat beside you on the couch, eyes heavy and body aching. He hadn’t even realized he was falling asleep until he heard someone snort.
“Yo, Todoroki’s doing the head bob.”
There was a ripple of muffled giggles across the room.
You glanced to your side, and sure enough, there he was, blinking slowly, head tipping back for a moment before jerking upright again. Trying so hard to stay awake even as his eyes betrayed him.
You smiled.
“Poor guy,” Mina whispered. “He’s really fighting for his life right now.”
You giggled quietly and bent down to tap one of your classmates on the shoulder, asking if you could borrow a throw pillow and a blanket. Once handed off, you turned back to Todoroki and gently touched his arm.
“Hey,” you whispered, careful not to startle him. “Come here.”
His eyes blinked open fully. You gave him a soft smile and patted the pillow you’d placed in your lap. He opened his mouth to protest but the words never made it out. He was too tired. And you were looking at him so kindly.
So he gave in.
He shifted closer, slowly curling up on the couch and lowering his head into your lap. You laid the blanket over his body, tucking it around his shoulders, and once he settled, you couldn’t help but study him for a second.
His eyelashes were unfairly long. His lips slightly parted in exhaustion. His scar softened in sleep, like the tension it carried had been momentarily lifted.
You didn’t mean to, but your hand drifted into his hair. Just a gentle graze at first. Then a full stroke. Fingertips dragging lightly along his scalp, tracing around his ear, then behind it and down to his nape before coming back up and threading through the mix of red and white strands.
He made a soft sound.
Not quite a sigh. But not quite a hum either.
You kept going.
You played in his hair, lightly traced his face and slowly rubbed his back. And within minutes, he was asleep. Breathing steady, arms tucked beneath the blanket, head heavy in your lap. You didn’t move. You couldn’t. You were afraid if you did the spell would break.
As the movie wound to a close and the class began to stir, stretching, cleaning up, heading to their rooms, neither of you budged. A few of your classmates whispered and laughed.
“How did she pull that off?”
“Not fair. He got out of cleanup duty.”
“You think she’ll let me sleep in her lap next movie night?”
You playfully rolled your eyes but didn’t engage.
As the common room emptied, you stayed right where you were, hand still carding softly through his hair. You waited until it was just the two of you, the credits still rolling silently across the screen.
Then, you leaned down and whispered, “Todoroki.”
His brow furrowed. He shifted slightly.
“Todoroki,” you repeated, a little softer this time, rubbing his back. “Movie’s over. You should head up to bed.”
He blinked slowly, coming back to himself. His voice was scratchy and low when he said, “Sorry. I didn’t mean to fall asleep.”
“It’s okay,” you smiled. “You looked peaceful. I didn’t want to wake you.”
He sat up slowly, rubbing his eyes. “That was
 really nice. Thank you.”
You nodded, watching him gather himself before heading up to his room.
He turned back before disappearing upstairs, his expression unreadable. But he didn’t say anything. Just gave you a soft look and disappeared around the corner.
Over the next few days, Todoroki found himself lingering around you more than usual.
Sitting closer at meals. Hovering near your desk during breaks. Always conveniently near when you were walking to class. He didn’t really speak much. But he was there. More than he ever had been.
And you noticed.
You’d known him for a few months now. You understood he wasn’t the most talkative or outgoing person, so it wasn’t hard to spot when something was different. When something was
off. You didn’t want to worry too much. Maybe he was just trying to get into a new social circle. But regardless of his intentions you could tell something was off about him.
So you decided to bite first.
You were in the kitchen, stirring a pot of curry when he walked in fresh from a training session, gym bag slung over his shoulder.
“Hey, Todoroki.”
He paused mid-step, glancing at you. “Hey.”
“You look like you’ve been working hard,” you smiled. “How was training today?”
He shrugged. “It was fine.”
You laughed and turned back to your food. “Glad to hear it.”
He hovered near the counter for a minute, clearly not ready to leave yet. You let the silence hang for a bit before speaking again.
“Can I ask you something really quick?”
He looked up.
“Have you been feeling okay lately? You’ve been hovering a bit. I don’t mind at all but I just wasn’t sure if something was wrong or if
I don’t know. You just wanted to talk or something.”
His eyes widened slightly. “Hovering?”
You tilted your head. “Yeah! Like you’ve been around more than usual. Again I don’t have a problem with it. In fact I think it’s great! But if you do ever want to talk about anything just know that I’m here for you if you ever need anything.”
He went quiet. For a moment, you worried you’d overstepped. But then he said, “I’ve been sleeping better lately.”
You blinked. “Oh?”
“I think it started the night you let me sleep in your lap.”
You smiled, amused. “That’s sweet. Had you not been sleeping well before that?”
He shook his head ‘no’, before pausing again for a moment, as if he were trying to find his next few words.
“I tried doing it myself,” he added, rubbing the back of his neck. “Running my fingers through my hair. But it wasn’t the same.”
You turned to face him fully now.
“I hope it’s not inappropriate of me to ask,” he said, “but
could you do it again sometime?”
You covered your mouth to stifle a laugh. “Shoto—are you saying you’ve been moping around because you missed my head scratches?”
He looked away, but nodded. “Yes.”
You nearly melted on the spot.
You set your spoon down and crossed the kitchen in two steps. “Well,” you said, stepping closer and reaching up to stroke your fingers through his hair, nails lightly grazing his scalp. “You should’ve said something sooner.”
His breath hitched slightly. He leaned into your touch like a cat, eyes fluttering half-shut. He let out a soft, involuntary hum, making you smile up at him.
“I could do this for you whenever you want,” you said, smiling still. “All you ever had to do was ask.”
His eyes fluttered shut, his whole body relaxing into your touch.
“I like the way you touch me,” he murmured. “It makes me feel
 warm.”
You chuckled at his blunt honesty, brushing a strand of hair out of his face. “Do you like all physical affection? Or just this kind?”
He blinked open, thoughtful. “I don’t know. I don’t usually get much physical touch from people.”
Your heart cracked a little at that.
You stepped forward and wrapped your arms around him, pulling him into a full embrace and resting your chin in his chest as you looked up at him. At first, he stiffened. Then slowly, cautiously, his arms came around you too.
You rubbed his back gently, just like you had the other night.
“You’re so sweet, Todoroki,” you whispered. “If you’d let me, I’d give you all the loving and petting you’ve been missing out on.”
You leaned back and cupped his cheek.
“Would that be okay with you?”
He nodded.
“Yeah,” he said quietly. “That’d be more than okay.”
And that night, when he finally went to bed, heart light, head warm, he slept better than he had in months.
Your arrangement started off innocently enough.
You would lazily scratch his scalp to play in his hair anytime you both were on the couch. You would let your knees touch when you sat next to him at the table or in class. You would even hold his hand or wrap yourself around his arm to guide him places. And surprisingly he was fine with all of this. Loving the way that just the simplest touch from you lit up his day and made his skin burn for more.
He’d become comfortable with you. Really comfortable. And it showed.
You loved that your usually quiet and reserved classmate let you be his personal destresser. You had been worried earlier in the school year that you and Todoroki would never connect or be anything other than acquaintances. But now? You were spending almost every afternoon with him. And Shoto was loving every second of it. Maybe even a little too much.
“I think I might be
a little clingy,” he murmured one afternoon, his head resting in your lap as you gently scratched at his scalp, your other hand scrolling through your phone.
You laugh, surprised at his sudden announcement. “You say that like it’s a bad thing.”
His eyes flicked up to meet yours. “Isn’t it?”
You smiled, carding your fingers through his dual-toned locks. “Of course not. Not when you’re this cute about it. I like that you're a little clingy. I’m pretty clingy too. ”
That earned you a very faint blush across his cheeks.
“I just
” he paused, turning slightly so his cheek pressed into your thigh, voice quieter now, “I like this. I like when we’re together. It makes everything feel so calm.”
You softened, setting your phone down completely and shifting your hand to trace the curve of his jaw. “You deserve calm, Shoto.”
He hummed at that, eyelids fluttering. “Do you
think I could try it too?”
“Try what?”
“Touching you. Like this. The way you touch me.”
Your heart gave a little stutter. You nodded. “Of course. I’d love that.”
And just like that, a new Todoroki emerged. A changed Todoroki.
At first, he was hesitant, not knowing what was allowed and what wasn’t. You didn’t mind. In fact, you welcomed it, so you decided on meeting him halfway to break the ice a bit. For every new first he showed you, you gave him another in return. The first time he asked to sit next to you at the table tilted that same evening on the couch you asked him if you could lean your head on his shoulder. The first time he hugged you good morning that same day you gave him a goodnight kiss on the head. The first time he offered his hand to you to walk you down the front steps you made sure to hold his hand on your walk back from. It was sweet and almost competitive.
As if both of you were engaged in an intense battle of emotional ping pong, and neither of you planned on giving in.
And once he caught onto your formula he got bolder. One night, he slid his hand over yours and laced your fingers together without a word. The next day, he tucked a strand of hair behind your ear before complimenting your focus in training. And a few days later, he pulled you into a hug just because, burying his face in your shoulder before pulling back and giving you a soft peck on the cheek like he’d been waiting to do it all day.
Every touch was gentle. Intentional. And achingly sincere.
“You’re really soft,” he murmured one day, curled beside you with his fingers drawing invisible patterns along your arm.
You laughed. “That’s a weird compliment, but thank you.”
“It’s true,” he said, completely serious. “And warm. You always feel so warm.”
You poked his cheek playfully. “That’s rich coming from you, Mr. Half-Hot.”
He leaned in a little closer, eyes tracing your features like he wanted to memorize every piece of you. “Your warmth feels different than mine.”
He rested his head on your shoulder, his arms circling your waist like you were something precious, something he needed to keep close. You let your cheek rest against the top of his head and exhaled slowly.
He didn’t say anything else. He didn’t need to.
Because in the soft hush of the moment, his arms wrapped around you, your fingers absentmindedly stroking his back and his hair, you both knew something had changed.
Into something warm.
Something wonderful.
And neither of you wanted to let go.

seventeen and horror movies
notes: this is from ages ago but apparently i never posted it lol so im doing it now
masterlist
Tumblr media
seungcheol
thinks horror movies are really cool! they're not at the top of his list, though, and he definitely prefers action movies with less psychological tricks and less fussy plots of good guys beating up the bad guys, but the suspense in horror films is always great too. laughs when the bedraggled and emo villain first appears on the screen and says that the villain looks like [insert which ever member pissed him off recently]
jeonghan
the most calm. offers his hands as stress balls to any members who need it during the film. was probably not paying attention for the entire thing, his brain having logged out of the human world and logged in to the angel network or something. offers to make popcorn every time, and by some weird psychic ability of his he always gets up to do refills right as the popcorn is running out for everyone. records seungkwan kicking chan into tomorrow every time they finish a film
joshua
is basically the human shield for the other scaredy cat members. he doesn't particularly like horror movies, but he's pretty good at keeping in his flinches and doesn't get that many nightmares from them afterwards. often gets dragged out to make cookies for dk bc he cant handle the movies. the person that everyone goes to at night when they can't sleep. once had a total of five members in his room after they all watched 'the shining' together, and let them sleep in his bed with him for the rest of the week.
junhui
loves (!!!!) horror movies so much. thinks they're the pinnacle of film industry art. gets scared by the super horrifying ones, but loves that feeling of getting scared so much. doesn't get nightmares bc he basically forgos sleep for two days straight after they watch a film, so he bores the nightmare demons into not visiting him. at least, that's what he swears by. does need to hide behind some of the other members tho when it gets a lil too scary for him to handle
hoshi
the epitome of reckless cockiness. boasts every single time that he's Great at handling horror movies, despite having a track record of Definitely Not being great at handling horror movies well. unintentionally engaged in a screaming duet with mingyu this one time. refuses to leave the room even when the members try to force him out bc he's too loud. always wakes up wonwoo, either bc he digs his fingers into his thigh thinking that he's jihoon or bc he's just being way too noisy. doesn't remember a single thing about the plot, pretends he remembers everything and says they should totally watch it again sometime
wonwoo
agrees to watch it with the members, ends up falling asleep halfway through. while everyone is talking about the terrifying cinematography afterwards, he's just sitting there like o_o bc he doesn't remember anything about the movie. he doesn't even mean to fall asleep, it just accidentally sort of happens. is woken up by hoshi during every movie tho bc that man is basically a high-pitched whistle when he's terrified and he gets terrified by horror movies all the time
jihoon
gets scared, but is scared the moderate amount. flinches at the jump scares, lets out little yelps at the sudden screams, but always does that cute giggle afterwards to show that he's more embarrassed than anything. has soonyoung's hand around his thigh like a vice the entire movie, and he has yet to figure out if the man is doing it to try and keep jihoon in place or to keep himself in place. sometimes gets nightmares after, but he doesn't really sleep enough to even have dreams on a daily basis, so.
minghao
doesn't like them, sits through them bc if too many people leave then chan gets sad that people aren't watching the movie he picked. pretends he's chill with it but he sits in the armchair by himself all curled up like a shrimp, hugging a cushion and squeezing his eyes shut whenever he gets too scared. after the movie's finished, though, he doesn't think it was all that bad. does that mean he's willing to watch it again? not really. but at least he's not getting nightmares for a week like the others.
mingyu
cannot even Think of watching them (1). is too terrified. clings to joshua so hard that he leaves the man with bruises on his arm. screams the loudest at every unexpected noise on the screen, even if it's something as tiny as a floorboard creak. can never finish the full movie, either bc he gets yelled out by the other members for being too noisy or ends up too creeper out and runs away to hide in hansol's room and watch him sleep to make sure he's okay
dokyeom
cannot even Think of watching them (2). gets all three of the 95 line to baby him for the first part bc he insists that this time he Will get thru it. holds jeonghan's hand the entire time. and seungcheol's. also has joshua's hand (the one on the arm Not being held hostage by mingyu) hovering near his face, ready to cover his eyes when something scary pops up on the screen. never makes it past the 45 minute mark without getting teary-eyed and having to leave, asking joshua to bake him cookies with him or something to help him calm down
seungkwan
gets absolutely terrified if theres any gore. psychological horror? hell yeah, he's down. demon/exorcism horror? so long as no ones peeling off anyone's skin, he's fine. horror movies (especially the ones chan picks) often leave a bad taste in his mouth tho so theyre not really his favourite. vows to never ever watch another horror movie that chan's picked out again, always ends up sitting on the couch squashed between jun and chan during the next horror movie viewing. beats up the maknae after every movie for suggesting something so grotesque and horrible
hansol
doesn't watch. he's not a big fan of the mildly plotless, gory horror movies chan always picks and instead goes into his room. tries to read a book or do something productive, ends up just falling asleep on the floor. wakes up to mingyu's face inches from his in almost pitch black darkness, the elder trembling like a leaf in the wind while telling him that he was guarding him while he was asleep to make sure he was okay. he turns on the light in the room and spends the rest of the night reassuring mingyu that the sounds he's hearing outside are totally normal and no werewolf is trying to break through their windows
chan
was probably the one to suggest the horror movie. he's pretty chill with them, finding them interesting (if not sometimes rlly repetitive) to watch. the suspense is his most favourite thing ever. he thinks it's super cool. flinches sometimes, but always laughs after. is the only one grinning with excitement once the movie is finished. looks around at his hyungs and asks if anyone would be willing to watch it again with him sometime?

people in the replies of your post arguing that Bix having a kid was a good, symbolic ending, actually, are making me feel insane.
Have these people ever like. Critically watched a television show or movie before?
A female character who SELF-DESCRIBES that she wants to win the fight (more than cassian does in this show, btw, which is its own thing i could comment on), who wants to rebel, who has directly faced trauma TWICE because of the Empire’s rule
fucked off to the place she was almost sexually assaulted to have a kid??? To *checks notes* further a man’s narrative, ah right, as always.
This happens again, and again, and AGAIN to women in fiction. They are supposed to be our cool feminist action girls until the moment they are a plot tool for the male MC, in which case they suddenly morph into a stay at home baby machine, “at peace” because while their SO went off to save the world, they
had a kid.
It’s not about her being a mom. It is about the way in which it has been written and depicted on screen. “But maybe she helped in other ways while pregnant, maybe she stayed with the rebellion until the war ended!” cool well we don’t see any of that, i wish that for her, i really do, but what we are shown, what is written, is the same thing we see over and over again.
“It’s Luthen’s message about a sunrise we’ll never see” right but see we got that already. because we knew the end of the story. because cassian dies. that was loud and clear. didn’t need a widowed wife and fatherless child to get that across.
It is exhausting to get an entire galaxy of interesting women and to see so many of them written into the same goddamn corners as so many other women in fiction. Exhausting.
hi anon. so you saw that LMAO. that was so funny actually because i didn't say in the slightest what they think i was saying??
you already nailed it. the trope is so TIRED. i'm tired. bix could have done so much instead of...that. again, and in case anyone says something again: i love mothers <3 mothers not bad. mothers good actually

This is how I felt after watching rise of skywalker and it felt like the writers were spitting in the face of fans and gaslighting me into thinking what I’d previously watched with my own two eyes hadn’t happened. Like trying to backpaddle Rey’s journey being about accepting your past and realising that you don’t have to be defined by your upbringing and family, trying to find peace and acceptance in being abandoned by her parents but learning that doesn’t define her and forging bonds and creating her own family with the people she found on her journey how a “nobody” can be a “somebody” only for them to make her a PALPATINE and to then take on the name skywalker and decide that she now has to take on the legacy of that name AND NOW I’ve just had to watch a show that’s trying to convince me that Jyn was not the main character of rogue one and in fact deserved no mention in the run up and that the feelings that were shown between her and Cassian were actually not there. That the “welcome home” scene and him seeing how his actions were mirroring that of people working for the empire with the blind acceptance actually didn’t really matter because he had some random baby and his “true love” waiting for him and that the baby is apparently a mor important legacy then the group who were integral to destroying the Death Star
omfg I feel SICK my sweet strong girls Rey and Jyn😭 middle aged men do not deserve to write your stories
I agree with all that but I also think that Tony Gilroy's number one victim was Cassian. he can try to reduce Jyn's importance in her own movie all he wants, but nothing will change the fact that she's the main character and heart of Rogue One. but stripping Cassian of all his defining characteristics in his own show... just feels bad scoob

OK, so I figured I needed to create this post. I keep seeing people saying John Walker is evil, never had a redemption arc, his fans are nazis (yes I really saw that post) and the same as homelander fans.
Ok. So. I’ve gone back and forth over how much I should explain on media literacy (of both books and movies) and I’ve decided to try and keep it short. To sum it up: certain characters’ actions are framed in a way to create a specific emotional response in the reader/viewer. It’s not always about what a character does, but how the story presents it. It’s what’s shown, what’s left out, the music, the lighting, the narration, or the internal monologue. All of that works together to make people either like and dislike a character. Sometimes it’s obvious and other times it’s subtle. But it’s done intentionally.
Look, I’ve been in fandom enough that I’ve seen people make weird defenses of characters they like(and hate). I’m also in the Star Trek fandom and seen people post how attractive Shatner Kirk is and say he has a bubble but when his ass is as flat as anything. I get that liking or disliking a character makes people view that person differently. I’m trying to take a step back from that.
The way the scene with Walker killing Nico in the street was framed, it was positioned from Nico's POV as if we were being killed. Because it was Sam and Bucky’s story, we saw it through their lens.
If you don’t find a character interesting or compelling that’s fine. I honestly don’t find Bob that interesting and was shocked when I saw how many fans he has. But whatever, you do you. However, I don't think a person is bad or wrong for liking a character. I personally can’t deal with being in the The Boys fandom because the people who stick up for StormFront, Firecracker, and Homelander give me the ick. I can appreciate that they are well written characters and are interesting but do not like them.
This is already longer than I planned on making this but the MCU is full of characters that have harmed others. Valkyrie was a slave trader, Hulk destroyed Harlem, and do I even need to go into Loki? People love him and he killed 80 people in 2 days (before the actual battle of New York) and removed some guys eye.
TLDR: Liking a character like John Walker doesn't make someone evil or comparable to Ted Bundy fans. Media intentionally frames characters to provoke certain emotional responses, and it's not always about what a character does but how it's presented. Many MCU characters have done shitty things, but are still popular due to how they're framed. It's okay to find a character compelling without condoning their actions. Let's not villainize people for which characters they find interesting.

dividers: @issysh3ll
Tumblr media
"Wait chris look at me"
you giggle out holding your recording phone in your hand. Chris had let you put his hair up in a cute style with some random butterfly slips you found at his place that you must have left from the last time you stayed over.
Chris turned around to face you giving the camera a playful smirk.
"oh my god"
you giggle out looking at your boyfriend.
"do i look good"
he asks chuckling.
"really really good"
you giggle placing a kiss to his lips.
Tumblr media
"CHRIS LET ME IN IM COLD"
you scream to him on the other side of the glass door. Chris had managed to lock you out after you told him you check to see if it was still raining which thank god its not.
"WHAT i cant hear you"
chris jokes with you still firmly holding the doorknob to prevent you from coming back in the house.
"CHRIS STOP YOU CAN HEAR ME"
you groan out placing your head against the door in front of you. And of course it starts raining again. You let out a quick scream feeling the rain start coming in as chris continues to laugh from behind the glass.
"CHRIS OKAY THIS ISNT FUNNY ANYMORE ITS RAINING LET ME IN"
you screams as chris finally gives in, opening up the door for you.
Tumblr media
"AND ACTION"
chris screams as you, Nick, Madison, and Matt were standing outside of a restaurant you guys just had dinner at which madison was fully recording this moment.
"Oh my gosh"
you exclaims as chris ran and jumped up in your arms.
"i love you so much"
he squeals out kissing your temple multiple times as nick and madison continue to laugh.
"okay can you guys get in the car please"
matt states getting embarrased that this was taking place in a public setting. You two continue to giggle as you set chris back on his conversed covered feet on the asphalt.
Tumblr media
It was about midnight in the boston sturniolo household and you and chris were the only two up which wasn't abnormal for the both of you.
You two knew everyone was asleep so you had to be extra quiet and chris and you both were proving that was a little difficult for the both you.
"chris shh stop"
you giggle out chris saying something silly in the moment causing you two to burst in a fit of silent laughter. Chris ended up tripping over a random rug in the kitchen causing him to fall over and drop his phone.
"ouch what the fuck"
chris quietly exclaims holding his arm seeing he landing on it still laughing.
"chrisss im laughing so hard im going to pee myself"
you giggle out leaning over to make sure he was okay first.
Tumblr media
It was a well known fact that you weren't the best at message games which is why is annoyed you everytime chris wanted to play one even when you guys were in the same room with each other.
Here is was a random night were you and the triplets were supposed to be watching a movie but instead you guys ended up on your phones and you were currently loosing really bad to chris on yet again another message game he made you play.
"like what"
chris chuckles out as he pans his recording phone down to the score on the in progress game on your phone.
"bro"
you huff out the act catching you off guard. you insticntly reaching up to get the camera pout of your face. Chris immediately fell over in laughter at how bad you were loosing to him.
"its not funnyy"
you groans out dragging out the 'y' placing your hands on your face while chris was still fully laughing at you.

Umineko Episode 7 Blog: Earth to Earth
Let's try to get to Episode 8 some time this century.
Tumblr media
Even though I had absolutely no concept of what the story was actually about at this point, I've decided that this means I was Right The Whole Time back in Episode 1, which means I officially win at Umineko.
Almost as soon as the "true" sequence of events is revealed to us, Ryukishi throws it into doubt again by interrupting Bernkastel midway through her red truth that might have confirmed it. Still, the story as told feels more realistic than the episodes that preceded it. The adults aren't intimidated by a childish riddle and solve it easily. Beatrice's elaborate plan falls apart immediately. The killings are opportunistic and have a straightforward motive. Sayo's despondency makes her look for the first time since Episode 4 like a girl wearing a witch costume, rather than an actual witch. It's reinforced by Will's loss to Bernkastel, too. He keeps trying to bring up rules and clues and she doesn't even know what he's going on about. This is not a mystery. It's not even a story. It's just a series of events.
On the other hand, the anti-Umineko themes in the Tea Party's fragment draw attention to those areas that still employ significant artistic license. Rudolph and Kyrie are presented not just as bad people, but as Villains, to the point where the story itself points out how Rudolph is basically LARPing. Such things are not unheard of, I'm sure you can find plenty of examples of gun nut types who convince themselves that they're the main character in an action movie as a pretext for violence, but then you have Eva's miraculous survival and Kyrie's dramatic irony bordering on breaking the fourth wall.
Despite what Bern implies, there is still some suggestion that the events she's showing are a fiction, but a fiction of a fundamentally different sort. If it's not reality, then it's still mutable. Battler promises that this is not a sad story, and his complete disappearance after being called out to meet Rudolph offers enough wiggle room for another Devil's proof.
One of the ways Ryukishi lends the Tea Party fragment authenticity is by reintroducing narrative elements from previous Episodes. Rudolph's references to Westerns are a callback to Episode 3, as is Eva shooting the other adults. The phonecall to lure out the children is from Episode 4. The adults all going to the chapel while solving the Epitaph parallels the adults all meeting with the witch in the chapel in Episode 2. There's an implicit suggestion here that the events we're seeing in the Episode 7 Tea Party are the prototype for the episodes, that these stories literally contain "fragments" of the truth.
But this creates a paradox. The first two episodes were written by Sayo before the killings even happened. The rest were written by Tohya Hachijo. I'm willing to believe that someone smarter than me who works as an author and became fascinated by the mystery could solve Umineko's major plot twists just from the first two bottles. You could probably even guess Shannon/Kanon in Episode 1 if you metagamed it, the way I did with Kinzo's death, and realised that Battler never sees them in the same place at the same time. I am not willing to believe that Tohya is such a genius that she managed to randomly guess specific events like the phonecalls that were not alluded to anywhere in the original bottles, and, indeed, could not have been alluded to, because they weren't part of Sayo's plan and they hadn't happened yet. As much as I like the idea of Tohya as this mysterious stranger who happens to have just the right kind of mindset to understand what Sayo was getting at, she really does need to have a source for some of what she's writing. Admittedly, the story is deliberately vague on whether Ange's meeting with Tohya ever happened at all, but someone has to have written the forgeries in any case.
This ties into Battler's disappearance, and his promise to Ange that he wouldn't let the story have a sad ending. I think the twist is going to be that, even though Battler's death seems like the most plausible turn of events, it is still possible to construct a theory in which, by some miracle, he gets off the island. Maybe this will finally resolve that Chekhov's gun about Battler being afraid of falling in the water. How else do you escape the island if you don't know about the hidden passage? Maybe it will be a case where they never confirm if Battler is actually dead or not (otherwise you have to get into why he didn't contact his family), and Tohya guessing parts of what happened really could be a coincidence, but Ange gets something out of the construction of a story with a less bleak ending? That would be one way to pay off the magic angle.
One more Episode to go.

The thought of CaitVi content without Amanda's involvement scares me.
Like, I have my issues with Amanda, I think she has some pretty bad taste and instincts in some area. But I can't help but fear that people trying to do CaitVi without her will be even worse.
As much as people joke about a CaitVi spinoff, others have rightfully pointed out that it could mean any number of things. Let's talk about it a little bit:
Cameo or reference in one of the upcoming projects (ie Bilgewater live action or Noxus/Ionia). Points in favor of this option that Christian is likely involved with this branch of Riot media and he is the one talking about not being able to speak on it. The downside of this option that this would likely be small and it would likely take a lot of time to manifest (for what it's worth: I'm actually unconvinced at this time that the Noxus/Ionia stuff they are talking about will be an actuall tv show or movie and that it won't just be the normal Riot short promo vids and comic books). The upside would likely be that it would feel more "official".
More CaitVi dedicated content, but in a different, cheaper format. Most notably: comic book or short story. The upside of this would be that it could focus actually on them. And it would be relatively easy and cheap for Riot to do. However, I fear that most fans who came in via Arcane are not going to be super interested in it and aren't going to really perceive it on the same "level" as Arcane. And I think general League and lore fans would only be interested if they use it to introduce some new threat.
A larger CaitVi project. ie novel. CaitVi police procedural. Maybe some sort of animated short. This of course would be the big dream. I'm just not sure how likely it would be. Like I would be more confident if a known big fan like Amanda was still on board. But League proper aren't really known to be big shippers in general and all League produced stuff still has to go through the hurdle of being something they think would appeal to a League audience. I think there's truth to the idea that something like a CaitVi police procedural is something that would be very explainable to a general audience simply because it's a very universal formula, but I think Riot (particularly with their shut down of Riot Forge) is pretty clear on the general audience not really being what they are interested in.
Personally, I'm open to seeing more CaitVi stuff. I'm among the people who liked them okay in season 1 and was kind of meh-d by season 2.
I don't dislike them enough that I think Cait being good to Vi isn't realistic, but I wouldn't mind to seeing more content where Cait is just being a nice and decent girlfriend to "make up for" season 2 in my mind.
And I do think that "CaitVi track Warwick/what happened to Warwick" is kind of like an obvious direction they could go into. (yes influenced by the "tea" fanart from the gallery event)
And because of their setting/position in the story, you can slot in basically anything into "Caitlyn and Vi track down X". They could dig into Singed, the herald,Noxian spies, Urgot, a new threat. You have lots of options depending on how personal versus how lore heavy you want it to be. (I think a "CaitVi dig through the rubble and investigate what the fuck the herald was and what happened to Viktor and Jayce" would be something that would also appeal both to Arcane and to League lore fans, plus a good way to catch up with the characters who are still in Piltover after the end)
I think that's kind of something interesting in how Arcane did their ending.
To me, Jinx's ending is very clean in a way. Yes, tragic, but imo you can buy that it's a new chapter, a new journey. You can imagine her doing their journey elsewhere, but it works "in your head". They can pick it up any time, but they don't have to.
The CaitVi ending rubbed me the wrong way, but at the same it felt like they wanted to created a more closed one for them. IMO based on what Caitlyn did and what Vi had to go through, I think a more rugged ending would have fit. Caitlyn visibly still having her fancy house and position just feels kind of off to me. IMO an ending where Caitlyn and Vi are kind of messed up but vow to fix the enforcers together would have fit the story more BUT it would have had the downside of being more open, about begging more that we should get to see that story. "Caitlyn and Vi will chill in Caitlyn's fancy house on a pile of Caitlyn's money" leaves them in a more peaceful state where you don't really have to see it.
But as I said, I wouldn't mind if they reopened the story again and showed us more of what they are up to. Because I personally do have a need for seeing more normal/nice Caitlyn and how she and Vi are doing together.

✚Wish and the original 1937 Snow White movie✚
Anyone who has seen the movie "Wish" knows about the many, many, many refrences to other Disney movies that can be found in it.
It surprises no one that "Snow White" is included in the list of the refrenced movies. Such refrences to the movie are:
-The 7 Teens (obviously).
-Magnifico's line: "Mirrors, Mirrors on the wall. Who's the most handsomest?"
-The poisoned apple being visible in his secret underground lair (and also the lair itself).
-This shot in "I'm a Star":
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Atleast to me it looks like a refrence)
-The well that can be spotted in one scene.
-And of course the biggest refrence: Magnifico being the Magic Mirror, thus making "Wish" canonically take place before "Snow White".
..........................................................................................
Now you might think: "Jojo, why mention this to us?" Well, I have a reason.
The idea to connect "Wish" to "Snow White" is not actually bad. But with most things in this movie, the potential wasn't used to the fullest.
Here are my points to why this could've worked:
-Star imagery in "Snow White"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(On the left is an early piece of concept art, showing Snow White in a dress with stars on it. On the right is concept art from a deleted dream-sequence that was originally supposed to happen during "Someday my Prince will come". I talked about this scene here.)
More stars can be seen here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I know I mentioned this before, but look:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The image on the left is from the concept art above on the right.)
You can not tell me that these two don't look similar.
..........................................................................................
I could not find any source confirming that they took the plushie design from this concept art, but just imagine how cool that would be.
While I do like that Star is a refrence to Mickey Mouse, I would have loved to see them refrence unused concept art. It would've shown that they had taken the time and effort to look trough their older material.
And I'm pretty sure that they might even still have the actual piece of concept art. In 2023, I visited the exhibition Disney had made to celebrate the 100 years. It was in different countries and cities (I went to the one in Munich with my parents), and they had some very old pieces on display. Here's what they had for "Snow White":
Tumblr media
(An actual part of the Snow White costume from the live-action refrences!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Concept art and storyboards!)
-The theme of wishing in "Snow White"
-Snow White's first song is called "I'm Wishing"
-The fact she sings this at a Wishing Well (and we will talk about this well later.)
-The Evil Queen/Old Hag giving her the deadly apple and calling it a "magic Wishing Apple".
-"Someday My Prince Will Come" is about her wishing that she and the prince meet again and that they will live happily ever after.
..........................................................................................
Now you're thinking: "Okay, but where are you going with this?"
I have two ideas of how Disney could've used the unused/used ideas from "Snow White" in "Wish" as refrences:
-Have "At All Costs" be a love song between Asha and Starboy and have them dancing in a night-sky surrounded by stars like in the deleted dance sequence.
The love-story element is so important to "Snow White" and other classic disney movies, so it would a great full-circle moment to see a dance sequence from the first ever Disney movie finally being used in the movie that celebrates 100 years of the company.
-Remember the well I mentioned earlier? It is clear that it was obviously meant as a refrence to Snow White. But after talking about this with @starss-artss ,we had come to an interesting theory.
..........................................................................................
In the Art Book, they had shown concept art of the well.
Tumblr media
Starss-artss pointed out an interesting detail: If the well was really just ment for that one quick scene and that's it, why make six different versions of it?
And I agree with that question. Any one of these designs would've been good enough for just one small scene.
But then, I re-read the text at the bottom of the page. The well was supposed to be "a nod to Disney Legacy".
The wishing well is a very iconic piece from "Snow White", but the well is most known for being the place where she meets her true love. (Do you see where I'm going with this?)
And when do we see this well in "Wish"? After Asha made her wish and the plushie zooms past her. That was the moment when Starss and I connected the dots for a interesting theory:
What if Asha was supposed to meet Starboy at the well as a refrence to Snow White meeting the Prince?
That could explain the six different versions. And it wouldn't be too out of place, since Asha and Starboy were (supposedly, but I think we all know by now that it is most likely true) supposed to be a couple. And that would honestly be such a cute/cool refrence!
It would not surprise me if this idea and the "At All Costs" idea were actually suggested during the planning of the movie once, but there's no way of knowing.
(If Disney won't use it, then I will lol. I was already thinking of rewritting my meeting scene a little, and after this "discovery", I will deffinatly use the well scene from "Snow White" as inspiration!
And to any new rewriters or regular rewriters who are still struggeling with the meeting-scene, maybe you could do that too!🎀)
But what do you think? Do you see what I mean, or was this all just crazy talking to you? Let me know and have a nice day/after-noon/evening!✚
(Tagging Time: @your-ne1ghbor @spectator-zee @rascalentertainments @pinkninja0708 @evestarsart @cielos-pintados @chillwildwave @oh-shtars @a-storytellers-wish )

I see it but I was thinkin it'd literally just be some dweeb lol.
I was actually thinking of how my friend's grandparents react to Xu Xiaodong.
If you don't know, Xiaodong is an MMA fighter who's made a reputation for himself challenging, being challenged by, and beating up fake martial artists. This is a really complex social role thing in mainland Chinese culture that I personally do not fully understand and could only misrepresent if I tried, but the vibe is like... How to put this.
some people view what Xiaodong is doing as standing against regressive and sometimes exploitative cultural norms and beliefs. It's important to understand a lot of these fake martial artist dudes are often cultist grifters selling desperate people on the idea that breathing exercises and spicy tai chi can cure health conditions, some of them are like on some Jordan Peterson "feminists want to feminize men reclaim your manhood by doing spicy tai chi" shit, blah blah blah. imo, Xu is the Good Guy and a lotta them grandpas had it coming.
other people, like my friend's grandparents, view Xiaodong as a bad guy who's beating up elderly mentally ill people in order to prove some immaterial point about might makes right. Xiaodong to them is a weirdo who's destroyed his life attempting to prove some racist concept of western thought (MMA) being superior to traditional Chinese cultural concepts like Wing Chun.
It's complicated because Xiaodong is in some ways living a Chinese action movie,
Tumblr media
but the politics surrounding it in real life are reversed as to what they are in the standard film lol.
Anyway I want to pull inspiration from how my friend's grandparents view this dynamic and Kung Fu Pandafy it into a Master Shifu (might makes right, martial arts is about efficiency and force, there is a right way for everything to be) vs. Master Oogway (chill out and find oneness of self bro) conflict, where Cassandra Cain is kinda like...
Tumblr media
lol
I promise I've seen actual Chinese movies I'm just using Kung Fu Panda for accessibility sake please don't be mean to me
I've written and deleted like five posts now trying to articulate this fanfic idea for a Cass Cain Does Hong Kong miniseries
what I've learned from this is that I basically want
a writer who is much cooler and more educated than I am
to write a Cass Cain run where Cass, as a Wasian woman raised isolated from Asian culture by her abusive white dad,
lives through the plot of a formulaic wuxia movie without realizing it because she's never engaged with any media like that and doesn't even realize it exists
while everybody around her is reacting as if they can recognize the tropes, because they can, it's like recognizing elves and dwarves going on adventures to destroy an evil artifact.
and I want this to feature
a tai chi grandma who cannot fight at all in the mentor role
a dickhead "martial arts is about power and nothing else" villain ala Tai Lung that tai chi grandma absolutely could not win a fight with ever
cass learning a lesson about how a restrictive hyper-focus on one part of herself that excludes all other parts of herself, like focusing on combat over a complete self-concept, results in one becoming a Tai Lung instead of a much happier, and in a Batman perspective, much more effective person
I'd try to write it myself but like
I am not The Guy

say it with me everybody: personal health is completely immaterial to morality, including mental health. leading a mentally unhealthy lifestyle (or what you perceive as a mentally unhealthy lifestyle) does not a bad person make. no one has to socialize, exercise, have healthy coping mechanisms, or lead (what you perceive as) a fulfilling life with fulfilling hobbies in the same way that no one has to go to the doctor to get a broken bone reset. both of those types of management of personal health are likely to be beneficial to the individual, but they are in no way moral requirements or debts owed to society. they do not actually say anything about a person's principles, personality, or actions towards others. additionally, people know themselves and their own situations better than you do. maybe a person judges that the physical and financial toll of going to the doctor outweigh the benefit of getting their bone reset, maybe a person just does not have the capacity to develop healthy coping mechanisms at this point in their life, and yes, maybe a person feels like they are totally fulfilled by "media based" hobbies alone and would feel no difference in their life if they picked up a loom. just like. let people be sick without accusing them of being representative of the lazy, degenerated state of modern society.

My favorite thing about Thunderbolts* was it’s emphasis on the idea that saving people is what makes you a hero. First and foremost a hero saves people the actual characters don’t feel like they are worthy enough to become heroes even when actively taking on the bad guy they don’t start to feel like this is something they can actually do, actually be until they start saving civilians and it’s not even from villians or goons it’s just from rubble. It’s this big moment where everything clicks and so ofcourse it makes so much sense that they don’t save the day by beating up the big bad they do it by saving their friend. By solidly saying none of this matters if you can’t save people even from their selves.
Hell fighting actively makes the situation worse. The Void only grows stronger the more you fight against it. at the end there it might have been easier to tackle Bob off the void to physically stop him from punching but they choose to accept him as he is for all he is even as they literally witness his worst moments. Even after everything that he has done everything that has happened to him he is still worthy of being saved just like every other innocent bystander on the street. And if Bob is worthy of being saved so our the rest of them.
These are characters that have spent years at this point going on missions and killing people because they were told too. They can fight they can take out the bad guys we know that they don’t need to prove it to us. So the question becomes; but can they save people? And all these downtrodden depressed group of losers and weirdos can say is We’ll try. And they do.
It’s why the last frame of the credits after numerous news clippings asking if they have what it takes, if they are strong enough to be earths mightiest heroes, if they are good enough. Is literally them picking up a fallen little girl.

the scene where you talk to davrin in his room while he whittles tiny models of monsters (while assan watches with rapt attention <3 there is nothing about this whole setup, man or griffon, that isn't adorable) when your rook IS one of the dainty little academic mage types he so besmirches and you consistently pick the purple options through the conversation -- I am SCREECHING the covert jock/nerd war rages on between clenched teeth and forced jollity, they are doing this on purpose, bioware really have given me this gift all nicely wrapped and lovingly crafted! rook is so fucking bitchy and passive aggressive in these purple options (and once or twice davrin doesn't seem to realize it/takes what they say at face value); it's not very nice of them but it is hilarious. also I must say that hearing these two just relentlessly neg each other with palpable tension of. SOME kind thick in the air* for five minutes straight and then walking away and seeing the 'davrin approves' pop up at the end gets close to the otherwise unapproachable gaming high that is having a tense standoff with sten in origins and seeing +7 affection as you leave. davrin clearly is going 'good talk man nice to see you stand up for yourself more, I respect the roast game' while my rook walks away with a forced smile and clenched fists like 'okay so that wasn't very mature of me I'll admit it but god why is this guy such an asshole'
I cannot imagine how this conversation must play out with a character more on davrin's wavelength because for my setup here this was *chef's kiss* perfect. ideal. I'm so glad this dynamic exists it's one of the funniest and most characterization-enriching things that could have happened to me
*there's some insanity going on here where like... I don't think either of them like want to fuck, they're not actually attracted to each other, but they both would fuck each other in a 'go fuck yourself'/'fuck me yourself you coward'/'fine I will see if I don't!!!!'/'oh yeah??? do it then!!!!!' kind of way. the vibes are indescribable and unhinged on both of their parts.
