What Kind Of Monster Was He?
A @forgettable-au fan (colored) animatic
MINOR BLOOD WARNING!
*Was he the kind to do too much, or not enough?
…OK, SO WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS-
I had planned to finish this into a full fledged animation, but a lot of the parts I did end up finishing just didnt live up to what I imagined…I waited for more motivation to happen, but it just didnt so HERES THE COLORED ANIMATIC CAUSE IM REALLLY HAPPY WITH WHAT I HAVE and ive sat on posting this for like a 2 weeks 😭 which is an eternity in my time
Im gonna post the unfinished “finished” part on my side account @o-sunny-day though! and probably have people yell at me cause it actually isnt that bad AND IT TOTALLY ISNT I just… art. You get it. ENOUGH YAPPING! ITS TIME TO YAP!
except not yet, MORE BACKGROUND INFO HUCDHUC- but its background info on explaining the lore…
The explaining is much less expansive than in Dear My Dear just because I didnt work on it long enough to think every bit of it through. This is just a clean, nicer looking, and colored version of the very first storyboard.
I usually think about and put more effort into the little stuff while making the FINISHED bits since ive had so much more time to think about that in all the preppin n sketching.
BUT I liked the explaining format I did for Dear My Dear so im sticking with it!
The main idea for this was to do a study of Wingdings’ character from what we’ve been given, mainly focusing in on the expectations he puts on himself because holy shit the lyrics for this works so stupidly well it makes me mad LOOK AT THIS???
its ridiculous. i love it. I didnt know Jack Stauber helped write Forgettable AU???? woww!!! ANYWHO thats the gist of it, not much context is needed past that. Onto the sillies!!!! (per usual excuse the shitty quality of the pngs idk why Tumblr does that-)
Did you know love? Will you rest in peace?
Wingdings and Sans holding hands as kids, before turning to a casket like appearance for adult WD. The flowers hes holding are pretty important too, Marigolds to represent grief, Lilys, new life, and Forget Me Nots for this lovely little line I found when looking up good flowers to use-
“a promise to always remember” ….stop that.
That actually also has a double meaning in this case too. 1, ofc the forgetting of Wingdings. But ALSO Wingdings forgetting something himself. Forgetting who he is. Almost like a Zuko ATLA situation.
Did you have a family?
Who knows where theyre parents are, but this is HAPPY TIME and we’re gonna assume they were so awesome and very kind but had to leave or went to a farm in the sky for whatever reason.
The colors here I had a lot of fun with. Their parents had warm colors but the boys have cold, still with warm accents. Its said they more or less raised each other being very independent as shown in the second part with them running out the door by themselves.
How was the view from the shelf? Did you ever believe in yourself?
Before, we started with the beginnings. The good things, the only thing Wingdings cares to even recall. Now we’re seeing his life really start to turn upside down- making first contact with The Player :D
He’s hesitant to reach out, but is intrigued, before getting a rushing revelation of his reality and how it isnt “real”
Rather than feeling crushing existential dread, he more feels pressured to be BETTER, to figure a solution, to do something. Thats what white represents here
WHAT KIND OF MILK WERE YOU?
We then switch to more examples of how Wingdings is taking this pressure (not well) The soft tones of yellow that were shown before, turn to way brighter, intensifying that feeling that he should be fine, he should be happy, drowning in success of being the Royal Scientist.
But he just desperately wants to just go back to a time of nice coldness.
The warm vs cold tones in this I had so much fun with, coldness is supposed to represent hostility usually, while warm is nice and happy. (same with Black and white. Scary, relieving,) But these points often contradict each other, its hard to tell what you’re feeling vs what you’re supposed to be feeling. Just like Wingdings!
WHAT KIND OF LIFE DID YOU LIVE THROUGH?
The white lab coats, the expectations, theyre on all of them. But Wingdings has essentially become his expectations.
He questions what life he wants to live, one being himself and alone (speaking in wingdings) or not himself and with company (speaking in a “normal” font) Still, he frames it in past tense as he believes theres no going back now, based on what he knows.
“One of the last happy moments they had together” stop that. (i cant find a link to when that was said but I know it was once, about them taking a photo together….)
DID YOUR LIFE RUN RICH WITH CALCIUM?
Calcium….bonesss :3 Hehehehdhehfhehehheheheh still dont know why he has holes in his hands so we’re movin on
DID THEY LAUGH AT YOU OR DID YOU LAUGH AT THEM?
Compared to the childhood Wingdings remembered, heres the sadder, bleaker, more realistic version. He always thought they were laughing at him but… maybe they werent.
DAIRY BELOVED. YOUR DAYS ARE GONE,
It doesnt matter now though. Because in the NOW, Wingdings has become consumed by his expectations of himself, seeing this has the “only option” to do the only thing that he feels will give his life meaning and purpose, establishing connection with THE PLAYER
But the grocery list goes on…
And yet life continues on without him, and his room is transformed into a more livable space now that someone is…living in it. Always hurts so much making the differences between Wingdings and Papyrus’ room. It feels like making something out of the man Wingdings COULD HAVE been. Because honestly thats just what Papyrus is,
Thank you to my bestie @fruitytrip for helping me with all of my art in general but especially the storyboarding on this :3 <3
#Milk by Jack Stauber#undertale animatic#Wingdings why#Hes a sad sad little man#ohhh who you could have been#if you didnt have a self destructive arc#sometimes i think about him being religiously obsessed with The Player#and then he comes to find out the player (me in this case) is religiously obsessed with him#like oh damn this is awkward#uhhh#wanna get coffee?#I love using cold colors for comfort and warm for terror#I was very spesifically proud of the shot with the white turning into a spotlight#then him turning into just a silly kid looking at a softer glow#o and happy new year gang :D#late#but#happy new year gang :D

Here's a transcript in English. Bless Yoseph Haddad. He has the patience of a saint to try to get through to these ignorant, brain-rotted Hamasnik morons who have been twisted by white saviorism and Jew-hate.
.
Yoseph Haddad: … Can I like, get a little bit of knowledge about it? Can I get a bit more things about it?
Ignorant Hamasnik: I'm not the best to ask, because I'm not super knowledgable. Yeah…
Yoseph Haddad: Aren't you…? Sorry, I'm really confused, because this is really important. This apartheid is not okay.
Ignorant Hamasnik: Yeah…
Yoseph Haddad: And I tried to go online and search about it, and I saw a lot of talks. Like, oh there isn't apartheid, there is apartheid. And I said, I'm gonna come here and just gonna hear it from you guys.
Ignorant Hamasnik: Yeah…
Yoseph Haddad: But can I be honest? I'm really disappointed, because I thought you represent the Palestinian club, and you would know about it.
Ignorant Hamasnik: Yeah, no, I mean…
Yoseph Haddad: So, wait, is there apartheid in there?
Ignorant Hamasnik: If you're asking for a personal opinion, yes.
Yoseph Haddad: What do you mean "personal opinion"?
Ignorant Hamasnik: As in, that's just my opinion, yeah.
Yoseph Haddad: I'm a bit confused, sorry. Because like, the personal opinion does not matter. The fact does matter, like if there is an apartheid or no.
Ignorant Hamasnik: Yeah, I mean…
Yoseph Haddad: What's the apartheid? It's like, what do you do in that?
Ignorant Hamasnik: Like, the definition of … apartheid…?
Yoseph Haddad: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ignorant Hamasnik: (laughs) I mean, again, like, I don't have the definition with me. Um, I think from what I believe, I mean, you've got checkpoints? So uh…
Yoseph Haddad: Well, you have checkpoints also like in between countries, no? If someone from Argentina wants to go to Brazil, doesn't he go to a checkpoint? So, this is not exactly the definition of apartheid. Look, Amnesty said that they [Israeli Arabs] are part of the Apartheid as well, that they live under apartheid as well. They do? They do live under apartheid, the Arabs who live in Israel, as well?
Ignorant Hamasnik: To that extent, I wouldn't know. I've never been to Israel.
Yoseph Haddad: Oh okay. And the Palestinians?
Ignorant Hamasnik: I've never been to that side either, no.
Yoseph Haddad: So, they live under apartheid, or they don't live under apartheid?
Ignorant Hamasnik: Yes…
Yoseph Haddad: How is it like, implemented? How is it on the ground? The facts on the ground?
Ignorant Hamasnik: I mean … so like I said, so, checkpoints can be in an area. You've got things like uh, separate, like what is it, license plates?
Yoseph Haddad: The license of the car?
Ignorant Hamasnik: Yeah, it's like a different colour.
Yoseph Haddad: Why it should be the same? If like, a person from New Zealand has a license plate of New Zealand, and a person from Australia has a license plate from Australia. So, New Zealand is an apartheid to Australia? Or Australia is an apartheid to New Zealand?
Ignorant Hamasnik: I mean, that's different, because we're two separate…
Yoseph Haddad: Can I be straight honest with you? I'm not really "an Arab who lives in Israel."
Ignorant Hamasnik: Yeah…
Yoseph Haddad: And I don't know what people are telling you or not telling you. I don't know if any of those people who are in that club even speak Arabic like me as an Arab. There are problems. I will never say that there isn't a problem.
Ignorant Hamasnik: Yeah…
Yoseph Haddad: But I have to be honest with you, this is a branwash. It's a brainwash. I can vote. I can get elected. I can become the president of Israel, if I want right now to nominate myself. Whether I win or not, that's no difference. I don't have a different bus system. I don't have different judges. In fact, an Arab judge, an Arab judge in Israel, a Supreme Court judge, sent the Jewish Prime Minister and the Jewish President [to prison]. I don't want you to believe me. I want you to check the name. Salim Joubran. In an apartheid, that cannot happen. I have freedom of movement. I came to New Zealand with my Israeli passport, as an Arab. No one can stop me. And by the way, it doesn't mean that racism doesn't exist or discrimination. But you want to tell me that also in New Zealand racism and discrimination does not exist?? Unfortunately, it exists everywhere. And what about Hamas?
Ignorant Hamasnik: Yeah, no, I mean, it's rough…
Yoseph Haddad: It's rough?? Look, Hamas controls Gaza. Israel does not control Gaza.
Ignorant Hamasnik: Yeah, I'm aware.
Yoseph Haddad: So, Israel does not have even one inch. Hamas has a border with Egypt. And Egypt closed that border as well. So, why an Arab state closed the border with Arab Gaza?
Ignorant Hamasnik: …
Yoseph Haddad: Because of terrorism. Helping us is not lying nor about deaths or promoting the brainwash of this. I don't live under an apartheid regime. The Palestinians have problems, which we need to resolve. But the obstacle is not actually Israel. The obstacle right now is the terrorist organization from Gaza and the corrupted Palestinian Authority. I hope, I hope I managed to bear something, and also, maybe I did not change your mind, but maybe I made you ask more tough questions to the poeple who made you join this club.
Arab-Israeli questioning why Israel is accused of being apartheid when his personal experiences show him otherwise.
#bless joseph haddad#he has the patience of a saint#the hamasnik movement is based on jew-hate and ignorance and lies#as haddad says “it is a brainwash”#Jew-hate makes you stupid

winged whumpee learning to fly? it doesn't have to be a specific kind of flying animal (like I don't really care if it's a parrot or a bat or something) just.... wings. learning to fly. etc etc.
I imagined an avian/human hybrid. Hope that is okay. I love that hybrid so much.
I wanted to write this in the eyes of people who have disabilities, and how people may interact with them. I think the disabled community needs a lot of awareness. They are important just like everyone else. I wanted to represent the difficulties they may face in a world not made for them. Even people who love them and want to help may have a hard time with pushing too hard. I hope I did well in bringing a little representation to the community.
Whumpee wrapped their wings around themself and fiddled with their feathers.
Caretaker was in a different room preening a few of their feathers before Whumpee's flight lesson.
Whumpee had injured their wings at a young age. The damage happened before they could learn to fly with all of the other young avians. They were behind now.
Caretaker had adopted them after the injuries. Their parents left them after the damages. A normal thing amongst the avian culture Whumpee grew up in. A flightless avian didn't have much to work with. They wouldn't be able to follow the others' migratory patterns if they had to relocate. Even most jobs require flight. They would never survive.
"Are you ready Whumpee?", Caretaker called.
"I don't know, it looks like it's going to rain", Whumpee looked out the window. They were greeted with a beautiful sunny day.
"Does it now?", Caretaker chuckled, "I guess it's good thing we won't melt then."
Whumpee turned to them when they stepped into the room.
"I-I don't want to do this. I fell last time. I might hurt my wings again", Whumpee frowned.
"Your doctor said your wings are ready for flight. Your wings are strong and are able to withstand falling", Caretaker came closer and hugged Whumpee. They wrapped them with their bigger, stronger wings, "we all fall. It's important to get back up and try again."
Whumpee rested their forehead on Caretaker's chest.
"I won't always be here to help you Whumpee", Caretaker ran their hand through Whumpee's feathery hair and rested it on Whumpee's shoulder, "you'll need to know how to fend for yourself."
"Don't talk like that Caretaker. My parents already left me. I don't want to lose anyone else", Whumpee pouted.
"I'm sorry, but it's only fact. I don't want to leave you either, but...."
"I know, but can we stop talking about it", Whumpee interrupted.
Caretaker sighed, "okay.... let's go get into the air then."
Whumpee watched Caretaker get a running start.
Caretaker's strong wings snapped against the wind and they were up.
Whumpee sighed as they unfurled their misshapen small wings, "how am I going to fly with wings like this?"
Another avian flew by and waved at Caretaker.
"No one wants to acknowledge the disabled avian. Everyone believes I should be dead", Whumpee huffed.
Caretaker hovered nearby, their wings flapped slowly to keep them up.
"Then prove them wrong", Caretaker smiled, "prove to them that you have the right to be alive, and to continue living. Prove to yourself that you can do this. Prove to others who have misshapened wings that they can also fly."
Whumpee wiped their eyes and nodded.
"Alright come on", Caretaker encouraged.
Whumpee ran forward a little and worked to flap. They stumbled over some rocks and fell.
"O-ow", Whumpee cried out.
Caretaker hurried to land and help Whumpee.
"Yes that hurts", Caretaker knelt down.
Whumpee's legs were torn up from the rocks. Blood steeped out from several gashes.
"Here let's get you cleaned and bandaged", Caretaker started to help them up, "we can work on taking off later. Let's work on flapping. I'll get you in the air and you can practice flapping and gliding."
"Do we have to?", Whumpee winced, "it really hurts."
"Just for a little bit", Caretaker helped brace Whumpee as they walked back to their house, "I know you can do it."
"Ca-Caretaker, you're not listening to me. My body says no. It doesn't want to", Whumpee argued, "I can't do it right now."
Caretaker paused, "I-I'm sorry Whumpee. Uh, you're right. Let's get you bandaged. We can talk about this after."
Caretaker silently cleaned and patched Whumpee.
"You're mad at me now?", Whumpee whispered, "I-I didn't mean to yell like that. You were only trying to help me. You've always tried to help me. I'm not doing much for myself."
Caretaker cleared their voice.
"I'm not mad at you dear. You were absolutely right in what you said. I was not allowing you to express your needs. I was so set on getting you in the sky I was missing what you were saying. I'm mad at myself for getting out of line", Caretaker set aside their first aid, "I am listening now. How do you want to approach this next attempt at flying?"
"I don't know. It all seems so hopeless", Whumpee sighed.
"It's not hopeless", Caretaker cupped Whumpee's face, "it's hard, not hopeless. We can do hard things. Let's go ahead and rest today because of the injury."
"It's not fair that it has to be so hard though. I didn't ask for this", Whumpee pouted.
"I know, just remember, no one knows how to fly when they start. I fell just as much as you when I first started", Caretaker smiled, "I fell on my face once and broke my nose even. That's why it's crooked. It will take time. I'm here for you and I want to help you."
Whumpee sat outside and watched others flying.
"I don't even know what it feels like up there. I've never gone that high", Whumpee sighed.
"Watching the others?", Caretaker smiled as they sat down.
Whumpee nodded, "I can't imagine how good it feels to be up that high. I was up there once, and didn't get to enjoy it much."
"Yes, you crashed pretty hard that day", Caretaker looked up.
"Do you really think I can fly. My wings are so ugly and misshapened."
Caretaker looked at them again, "I think if you truly want to, you can. You may not be able to get high up, but I think we have a good chance. I want to encourage you to at least keep trying. I know it's hard to see everyone else having an easy time. I can understand how difficult that feels. Your feelings are valid, my dear."
Caretaker stood, "come on. I have an idea."
Caretaker got themself up and hovered just above Whumpee.
"Hold onto my leg", Caretaker grinned, "hold on tight."
"I don't want to fly", Whumpee whimpered.
"You won't have to", Caretaker lifted up a little to keep their altitude, "I want to give you taste of what it feels like up there. You can open your wings if you want, but you don't have to let go of me."
Whumpee looked at them questioningly, but stood and wrapped their arms around Caretaker's leg.
"Woah", Whumpee gasped as they left the ground. They burried their face into Caretaker's leg.
"Doing alright" Caretaker called down as they continued to climb and build altitude, "I'm about to flatten out, so hold on."
"Okay", Whumpee mumbled into the pants.
Caretaker looked around a little.
"You know it's prettier to look. My pant leg isn't why you came up here."
Whumpee peeped up.
"I'm up?", Whumpee gasped.
"Your up", Caretaker chuckled, "this is about the elevation the others were flying at."
"Can we go higher?", Whumpee blurted out bravely.
"Hold on", Caretaker started to climb, "this is about as high as I willingly fly. I won't take you any higher."
Whumpee rested their chin on Caretaker's leg.
"Are you enjoy the ride?", Caretaker peaked back at them.
"It's amazing up here", Whumpee's eyes sparkled, "I can't believe what it looks like down there. The earth looks so different."
"Yes. The city is up ahead", Caretaker pointed out, "we won't go into the city because of how busy the sky is. I can't maneuver very well with you holding onto me."
"Okay", Whumpee watched the city for a few moments until Caretaker had turned away and started back to their home.
"Try to unfurl you wings", Caretaker lowered themself a little.
"Caretaker... I."
"You don't have to let go of me. Just practice a little of the flapping you've learned. Feel what it feels like for your wings to hit the air", Caretaker sighed.
"Won't I mess your thrust up by doing that?", Whumpee frowned as they opened their wings, "that can affect your flight patterns."
"Maybe a little, but it's fine. My wings will keep us up", Caretaker turned to see Whumpee's wings out, "they look good. Turn your left a little up... its lagging a little... yep perfect."
Whumpee worked to beat their wings against the wind.
"You've got perfect form", Caretaker encouraged, "you look great."
"Thanks", Whumpee frowned, "c-can I try something?"
"The clouds don't taste like anything. You can't eat them", Caretaker chuckled, "I've tried."
Whumpee suddenly let go.
"Whumpee", Caretaker yelled as they froze in the air and looked down.
Whumpee was dropping, but they were trying more than ever to stay up.
"Come on... come on", Whumpee cried as the ground came closer and closer.
They looked up and saw that Caretaker was chasing after them.
"Keep flapping Whumpee. I've almost got you", Caretaker yelled, "you have to keep up enough so I can catch you and not crash."
Caretaker needed to catch Whumpee with at least fifty feet space from the ground. That was their hard deck. Anything lower, they risked crashing into the ground and injuring themself and Whumpee.
Whumpee suddenly lifted a little.
"I-I did it", Whumpee yelled.
"Keep doing it", Caretaker yelled as they worked to catch up with Whumpee.
"Brace yourself", Caretaker yelled as they grabbed Whumpee.
Whumpee was grabbed.
Caretaker grunted, at the sudden jar of grabbing Whumpee.
"That hurt", Caretaker grunted again.
Whumpee looked up at them worriedly.
"I'm alright. I'm too old to be doing stuff like this. My rescue mission days are in the past", Caretaker sighed.
"I'm sorry Caretaker. I-I had a moment of bravery, and it was fleeting", Whumpee whispered.
"A little heads up would have been better. Let's try for that next time", Caretaker hovered just above the ground and dropped Whumpee. They landed right next to Whumpee.
Caretaker tiredly sunk to the ground, "ugh... I haven't flown like that in a long time."
"Are you okay?", Whumpee looked at them worriedly, "I'm so sorry."
"I'm alright.... just need a second", Caretaker smiled weakly as they took some deep breaths, "though that could have been handled better, I'm glad you tried. I'm glad you were able to keep yourself up."
"I'm sorry... I really am", Whumpee looked at them worriedly, "I didn't hurt you, did I?"
"Maybe a little. I'm alright. I promise Whumpee", Caretaker opened their arms to get Whumpee to come closer for a hug, "just be a little sore tomorrow."
Whumpee shyly hugged Caretaker.
"I don't want you to be afraid of flying again because of this. You kept yourself up... even if it was momentarily. You did it. This is exactly what we needed to happen. We can build off of this", Caretaker cupped Whumpee's chin gently, "don't lose the smile I saw up there. I think you fell in love with the sky. My plan worked."
Whumpee's lip quivered.
"It's alright", Caretaker smiled, "you were so brave."
Whumpee wiped their eyes and nodded.
"We can try again tomorrow. No promises if I'll be flying though", Caretaker stood up, "I have definitely tired myself out. Let's go get some food."
"Okay", Whumpee followed.
"You got yourself up", Caretaker stated excitedly as they followed Whumpee into the house.
"I did", Whumpee turned excitedly.

Feelings on Minish Cap?
Minish cap is a stellar game. Very much underappreciated and my top wish for what should get remade in HD. The soundtrack is marvelous and I wish I could listen to it all day but the ~bits~ of the good old gameboy just don't work well with my migraine prone head. I truly hope newer fans get to experience the game in all it's glory sooner than later and it get the attention it deserves!!
I think Minish cap has a very unique identity. It has a lot of familiar things yet many totally new and unexpected sights! It almost feels like a fan game, but in like the best way possible. It's got that indie pixel vibe of something made with love.
...asfjggsjkf sorry this is another love letter ramble. Minish cap has a special place in my heart. It was the first Zelda game I ever played, although at the time I didn't know any english and would just run around the few areas that are open before the first dungeon, and I'd slap grass for fun. I was easy to entertain back then.
Years later I found my old gameboy colour and finally actually played the game. It's a real solid entry in the top-down zelda game world, although it could be just a LITTLE bit tighter in gameplay. Link's awakening and Oracle of Ages just really keep you on the move in a way modern games don't seem to.
Also Minish cap just has the most iconic official art in the franchise.
Basically Minish cap to me is an image of childhood. We're currently in an era for the franchise that's openly pointing out the horror of it's lore. I think it's high time we remember the joy and whimsy of the series too. The games that bring back that feeling of being a kid in the backyard playing heroes! The hero trope exists as a tragedy, but also to inspire us.
PS. to clarify I think the game is incredibly solid as it exists right now and the reason I want it remade is not because the current version needs an overhaul, but because I know a remake would give more people easier access to a game that's marvelous and also I'd cry. If you have a way to play it right now like... Do it, yo. No need to wait for an imaginary product I invented in my brain.
#Ask#Game reviews tm#It's not in my top 3 but if it gets a solid remake it just might be#It represents a lot of really important things to me

I think Aventio and Screwtio shippers shouldn't fight. After all, Ratio has two hands!
That's right. Two hands.
One for his chalk.
One for his codex.
Both of which he's holding in an embarrassed death grip as they chat away with each other about him.
#I'm on to something here#screwtio#aventio#hsr aventurine#veritas ratio#dr ratio#screwllum#hsr#honkai star rail#now as a disclaimer I'm not personally a huge fan of aventio#exclusively because i think they are so SO much funnier as gay friends#but something about combining the two clicks really well to me#Aventurine and Screwllum would be pretty fantastic metamours i think#they'd have a lot of fun playing off each other#but also Screwllum being there to dispute Aventurine's doubts over whether or not Ratio cares as a verified outside perspective#listing off shit like upticks in heartrate pupil dialation etc on top of being like#he talks about you fondly he knows your favorite things i can personally attest that you are very evidently important to him#stuff Aventurine can't easily write off when coming from not only an outside perspective but also a literal Genius#and on the flip side Aventurine would finally have someone other than Ratio and the Trailblazer he can talk to with relative ease#someone who has also been through a frankly incredibly traumatizing historical event#someone who is also under constant pressure to perform a certain way#someone who has gained wealth and power at the cost of carrying responsibilities on his shoulders and never being truly free#appearing free to anyone who glances but neither of them really are#Screwllum seemingly able to freely pursue whatever research he wants but ultimately permanently shackled with his titles#and public pressure to be the perfect poised representative for all of inorganic kind#forever treading the line of being both a desirable ally and a sufficient threat that you wouldn't want to cross him#and similarly Aventurine stuck in his cycle that he feels only death can free him from of gambling with his life on the line#because the IPC basically owns him#because let's be honest Jade's offer was just a lifetime labor contract he couldn't refuse#granted the illusion of freedom through gaining money and power but never truly free

I really love this post, and if I better understood why, I could explain it in shorter terms than I'm about to.
There is something pure about how well the idea of "failure standards" is separated out.
A part of me consistently tries to parse out what mood people feel is "right" for their recollections, and that part of me first just stumbled on "I can do all these really cool things" and just put a lil 🙂 (slight smile) in my mind.
There is the ghost of effort from people who would feel like they failed, but it feels like it's okay. Something was gained, and it might have been a better experience for everyone with a different understanding of people and goals... But the impression is that it turned out alright. It's like there very well might be relevant things "out of frame" that carry a very different mood, but that's not here. That's not this.
...
I've been experiencing some very different speech problems, especially in certain contexts and in the past few years, and reading this is making me realize a whole lot about them. I think the fact that I'm not actively parsing it as "not how I feel about it" makes it easier for me to compare and contrast it to my own difficulties.
(more personal stuff under the cut if anyone's interested)
I feel like I have completely opposite speech issues: I cannot do "automatic" speech tasks most of the time, but word-centered "conscious" tasks are easy.
Echolalia, single words that would communicate something important or direct attention well, singing along, or repeating/reconveying a meaning need complete focus for me.
I find it extremely easy to sensibly use complicated words and speech frameworks and keep track of all their implications and meanings.
I can hold the totality of a set of words in my heart and feel my mind racing the entailments and metaphors in them... But I find it very difficult to just... Not use them. To talk about something only in terms of signifiers already established in discussion, tracking "what gesture a word has been used and acknowledged to represent" without a framework of a thousand words.
It's not about needing to stick to dictionary definitions at all, it's about... "Semantic" meaning, the meaning that the actual significance of words represents, and not the fact that someone is saying them.
It's like if you pointed at a ball and an animal understood that you are putting the ball in focus, but not that it means you want to play with it/have it fetched/give it to the animal.
So I know this "Be careful what you say" post is an older post, but I just wanted to show you what making a lot of progress as a "nonverbal from birth" person can look like. Regarding speech.
I don't have regressive autism, my inability to speak was there since, well, forever.
So. I was put in a lot of therapies. Speech therapy to 1. learn sign language and handle an AAC device, 2. to understand spoken language (I didn't understand spoken language until I was 3), and 3. to get more conscious of what my throat does, etc. Music therapy because I always loved music and tried to hum along to songs even back when I didn't understand language.
At some point they checked if I could say single letters or words, etc. And so on. They/we tried a lot.
So, what's the result for me personally now?
I can sing along to songs as long as I know the lyrics by heart and don't have to think about what my mouth does.
I can sometimes say single words as long as I don't have to think about what my mouth does (it doesn't work if someone says "Hey, say [word]").
I can sing melodies using vowels (a, e, i, o, u), as long as these melodies don't contain words.
I have echolalia - which makes sense because echolalia is "automatic" too and not a conscious effort to speak.
So I can do ALL of these really cool things after years of therapy..........
But I still can't speak. At least I can't communicate via speech. After all these years where people tried so much, I still can't speak.
So much for learning how to do something if you just try hard enough ☝🏼

FIRST DRAFT DEFEATED!!! its 54k words currently
#personal#canary continuity#i still need to lengthen/change some scenes#theres some long exposition in some scenes that should probably just be cut for like. the events#leading up to the important moment.#although i enjoy representing the overthinking/anxiety so i'll try to find a way to keep most of it#and a currently really important foreshadowing/thematic scene i want to make more subtle#originally there was going to be more than what i ended up with but most of the time when i complain about pacing its LITERALLY just me#also i need to cut some repetition that isnt intentional for the sake of showing the kind of. circular self-blame going on in d's head#because especially in the face of a psychotic break its intentional. but in some places i need to make things more abstract i feel#im kinda happy with most of the early scenes though. favorite to write was mikey... whats going on in your head little guy#i love the little unnerving ways it shows they are still actually CONSCIOUS beneath whats going on. like enough to resist it sometimes#itll get explained more deeply in the aftermath oneshot but thats why the change was slow and subtle#it was more an alteration of their thought processes/intrusive thoughts that slowly ate them alive#the progression felt normal for them#but notably raph actually is holding back the whole time and i think thats pretty interesting#and actually kind of horrifying LOL he couldve been so much nastier#anyways ill stop yapping now. youll see what i mean when im done#its a really powerful curse. i actually have a lot of ideas for the character responsible that explains why#and i even know the motive behind it. im still a little iffy about including her or making her a continuous threat but i Miiiight

i really cant buy the headcanon that phoenix and edgeworth were romantically interested in each other as kids or that they were in love for the 15 or so years they didnt see each other, like it just doesnt make any sense or work at all. but i dont think this actually contradicts the way i think some of those scenes in the anime felt a bit romance coded, or like viewing phoenixs becoming a lawyer for edgeworth as like a romantic gesture? like it wasnt actually motivated by romantic feelings at all but the actual motivations and everything that happens ends up contributing towards a romantic storyline? (from a shipping perpesctive that is obviously)
#i dunno its just from what ive noticed from reading fanfic its like people dont really get the difference?#i mean that headcanon personally annoys me cause i think its stupid#but watching the anime like not saying the anime actually ships them but it does feel a bit romance coded sometimes#including those flashbacks#and see this isnt actually a revolutionary concept in the slightest its literally the most basic device in romance#but honestly im not sure some people in fandom actually understand how romance even works and think its literally just two#characters get together#i mean not taking the high horse here i might have thought that actually cause i was never really into it or read it or paid attention#but anyway as a story even an alternate reading of one not whats canon#like the idea of romance as a concept in fiction that tells a compelling story#its not just a literal like romance is happening thus they must have romantic feelings for eachother right now and the goal is get together#which is obvious i know i do really mean it i literally never paid attention to the genre#anyway back to ace attorney like the same thing actually in canon is the delites? like getting saved as a romantic gesture#despite not knowing each other#and also i think phoenixs actual motivation is a lot more interesting#not just how he was influenced by edgeworth in such a lasting way and like the concept of that sort of childhood friend you lose touch with#whos still that important cause of how they shaped your life and also just they were good friends like it was love for a former friend#but i also think the concept of edgeworth at that time in phoenixs mind like existed more than the real memory of the person?#and it seemed like he fixated on the idea of saving him because of the concept he represented as much as out of concern#yeah i know this has nothing to do with the post i just think the way a childhood friend who you idolise exists as a memory more than a rea#person and its actually a lot about you not them is really interesting#hm maybe shouldbe made a different post for all that#ace attorney

I did like timebomb with Ekko x Powder. I don't like it with Jinx, but even with the Symbols and everything I didn't feel the ship was forced into Jinx and Ekko and I did appreciate that. To me it felt more like the two were reworking themselves to fit their "new us" together, not as a couple, but as a team to build up something new. They spent so much fighting and resenting the other while also missing the ghost of their childhood friend (and possible crush), I don't think they could ever work that out.
In the alternate universe what Ekko mostly gained was closure, he was able to say goodbye to Benzo and Powder. To me it meant a lot when Ekko corrected himself after almost deadnaming Jinx, I don't think it was because the last time she saw her she was Powder, but because Ekko was like Vi in season 1. They didn't want Jinx, it was Powder or nothing, because Jinx is Silco's daughter, the daughter of the man who killed Benzo and Vander deciding to remain loyal to such man.
It left me wonder: when Ekko said he gave her chances, did he ever gave Jinx one? Or did he only ever give them to Powder? The way he says "she is gone" to Vi implies that it was Powder the one who he extended his hand with.
Then there is Jinx, who he just found out trying to kill herself (in all shown it's clear that, even through everything, he doesn't want her to die). We don't know why Ekko was there, if he went there for Jinx, if he just apammed there after the arcane multi-verse travel or if he was there for something else, but he was there and decided to stop her. And the words that get through Jinx are this:
"It's never too late to build something new. Someone worth building it for."
That was something important for Jinx AND Powder in both seasons. First, her gadgets for the team, then the Hextech weapon for Silco, the Sevika's arm, then her new finger, then Vander's death, then her relationship with Vi, then this: Isha's sacrifice. To make it worth something, which is why the globe had the symbol of the bunny (Powder AND Isha's symbol) instead of her iconic symbol of the monkey. From Sevika's arm, while building is important, there is a shift from "building" to "fixing".
"It was something I could fix."
That is Jinx's whole plot during season 2, it's what gave her motivation in the first place after Silco's death.
We don't know how much Ekko knew, but if he saw that Jinx had taken his place, becoming a symbol of the one that take cares for the Undercity, then he had to give her a chance. With the closure he needed, he was ready to accept Jinx, even if she is not Powder and he would always grieve her and what it could have been if things have been different.
Forgiveness is not a theme in arcane, but something deeper. The characters never really forgive each other but learn to live with what happened and move forward accepting that the other person is there. Accepting that, they too, haven't done things right, so they really can't keep pushing against that person and pretend that they are justified in whatever are the consecuences of their actions.
Ekko and Jinx just started building, because people they cared about needed them to, and they decided to give it a chance because it was sonething they could fix. Whatever that something was their friendship, their battle efforts, the sacrifices made, ir didn't really matter. They just gave each other a chance, that was why the monkeys in Ekko's timeloop were important, not because they represented a "good version of Jinx", they represent Jinx, and Ekko was willing to add them, just like he was willing to add her now. To give her something to work with.
Now I'm aware I probably just got it the way I wanted it because content was cut short, I would have lost it with actual Ekko x Jinx content, but this ambiguous way it works and I'm grateful that I got it.
I also believ this is a ship you dislike more the fanon content than the actual content, as Timebomb shippers more often than not ignore that Powder and Jinx are in fact NOT the same person to try and force the Ekko x Jinx. Same individual yes, but not the same person. It's one of those ships you dislike more because of the fans disregard of canon and important content than the little we were given or oven force fed by the show. (Becaus c'mon, the whole tea party scene in season one was NOT so people could say "tHeY aRE tHe sAMe pERsoN")

Okay so basically the United States MINT of all people is going to be working with DC to make a line of coins! These coins sadly won't be in circulation (the things I would do to live in a world where I could get Batman coins from the supermarket) as they're collectors coins, but will be releasing over the course of the next 3 years, 2025-2027.
Designs haven't been released yet (the same is true for all 2025 designs) but we know there will be 9 coins in total (3 each year) with the first year featuring (of course!!!) Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.
Although we know the first three heroes to be featured, the remaining six have yet to be decided, and it turns out the Mint is putting out a survey on their site to gauge which of a group of culturally significant heroes people want to see most! (link to the form is mentioned in the article above)
The considered group includes: Supergirl, the Flash, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Captain Marvel, John Stewart GL, Aquaman, Hawkman, Jamie Reyes BB, Robin (Damian?), Cyborg, and Batgirl, of which 6 will be selected.
As someone who does a bit of coin collecting myself (mainly circulation coins like the quarters sets, but I also have a couple proof and collectors coins) I think this is a really cool and interesting idea that showcases the history of the comics medium and these characters and their influence on American culture. Really excited to wait and see what the designs look like for the coins already announced!
#ABSOLUTELY INSANE TO ME#sorry just. only thing that could make this crazier is if these were circulating. i would fucking die actually lmao#i mean you could buy something with one of these legally but like youre an idiot if you do that so likeeee#someone showing up with the solid gold superman collector coin and its only legally worth a dollar lmao#not that someone would do this but future generations/archeologists finding a coin in some ruins and it just has like. batman on it#amazing to me#also just the transition from us currency having all fake people (lady liberty some random native american guy etc.) and then going to real#people and presidents then expanding that to honor people that they believe should be honored (think the harriet tubman coin set right now)#and representing beauty and innovation and culture through representation of the states#only through that lens to swing back around and have fake people on the coins again in the form of the freaking dc trinity. insane to me#no one ever gets me when im nerding out over coins its okay. at least its not postage stamps (i actually do have some special postage stamps#its like 1 sheet though it was for the 2017 eclipse and the image changes from totality to the moon with the heat of your finger theyre so#cool okay) anyways i like dont really know that much abt coins lol i originally saw a post abt this on reddit 💀 lol and had to check this#was real which is insane. anyways my dad got my all my coin stuff ive got a proof set from the year i was born albums to hold the 50 states#and national parks (america the beautiful but its 90% natl park designs lets be honest here) quarter collections as i find them irl#(dont have an album for us women yet sadly but do have some of the coins) as well as a few dimes and other circulation albums i havent used#much. and then i have a few collectibles like the hubble telescope $1 coin the 50th anniversary apollo 11 one and the 2021 anniversary peace#dollar. though like not the gold ones or anything like that lol but yeah. i talk abt coins every once and a while with friends and i know#things but then my dad is in the car and its like nevermind lol.#also put a ? after damian's name bc theres a chance it could be dick and they just used the wrong picture. because some of the character#bios had names but his didnt and seemed very dick grayson (acrobatics mention “batman's partner” etc) but not so specfic exclude either one#and the pick was damian. but then the ollie pick was goateeless for some reason so who knows#culturally dick is more important but dami is current so idk#dc comics#blah#ive really been learning so much today. first all in announcement and subsequent leaks and now this. what a ride#also love how im anticipating and know future comics things lol. when did that happen haha. ive really transitioned from only reading back#issues and never knowing current events to following a lot of releases lol and somehow finding out about the freaking coin collection...#crazy how that happens#cant scroll up at that first image without losing it a bit still actually. what a world we live in. anyways take your bets who is gonna be

#alright might delete this later because I avoid discourse for the most part#so#while I feel a lot of things this season would have worked better with some more breathing room#I’m happy with all the story beats they chose to play this season#i saw a take that was basically ‘Izzy mirrored Ed’s relationship to the toxic masculinity of the pirating world’#’he was tormented by it in the first season and then in the second it softened and died’#and I think that works pretty well symbolically#a lot of people are trying to analyze the show as if these are real people being put through real things#when at they end of the day they are characters representing symbols and ideas and pieces of real people#basically I’ve seen a few people saying that Izzy’s death negates the theme of this show being queer love and joy#and that really annoyed me because I don’t think it’s true#and I think in a show with so many queer characters you can give them room to explore one dying#I feel like if we’d had more time it could have been more nuanced and we could have seen more of the characters reactions#but we had 4hrs total of television this season#and they had so much story they wanted to tell#and I feel like they also wanted to make sure things were resolved in case they didn’t get renewed#and that means they had to put in the beats they felt were most important#without a lot of room to breathe between those beats#so in conclusion i liked this season#i really wish we had more of it#but I appreciate what we have#and I hope we get a s3

for whom good omens is being written
Hey maggots and the rest of the fandom, it's the Good Omens Mascot here. Today I read a post about this tweet:
The accompanying video genuinely made me cry. And I've been thinking about this for a long while, as far back as February, when I saw a lot of conflicting opinions on what people wanted from the third season. It really is true that no matter what you do, some people will be dissatisfied. But what matters is that Neil is writing this for Terry.
And I was reminded of some paragraphs from the Good Omens TV Companion, which I'd read in Amazon's sample excerpt of the book. I know this is a long post, but I really truly do think you all need to read these, I've done my best to select only the most important parts. Here you go:
'His Alzheimer's started progressing harder and faster than either of us had expected,' says Neil, referring to a period in which Terry recognized that despite everything he could no longer write. 'We had been friends for over thirty years, and during that time he had never asked me for anything. Then, out of the blue, I received an email from him with a special request. It read: “Listen, I know how busy you are. I know you don't have time to do this, but I want you to write the script for Good Omens. You are the only human being on this planet who has the passion, love and understanding for the old girl that I do. You have to do this for me so that I can see it." And I thought, “OK, if you put it like that then I'll do it."
'I had adapted my own work in the past, writing scripts for Death: The High Cost of Living and Sandman, but not a lot else was seen. I'd also written two episodes of Doctor Who, and so I felt like I knew what I was doing. Usually, having written something once I'd rather start something new, but having a very sick co-author saying I had to do this?' Neil spreads his hands as if the answer is clear to see. 'I had to step up to the plate.' A pause, then: 'All this took place in autumn 2014, around the time that the BBC radio adaptation of Good Omens was happening,' he continues, referring to the production scripted and co-directed by Dirk Maggs and starring Peter Serafinowicz and Mark Heap. ‘Terry had talked me into writing the TV adaptation, and I thought OK, I have a few years. Only I didn't have a few years,' he says. 'Terry was unconscious by December and dead by March.'
He pauses again. 'His passing took all of us by surprise,' Neil remembers. 'About a week later, I started writing, and it was very sad. The moments Terry felt closest to me were the moments I would get stuck during the writing process. In the old days, when we wrote the novel, I would send him what I'd done or phone him up. And he would say, "Aahh, the problem, Grasshopper, is in the way you phrase the question," and I would reply, "Just tell me what to do!" which somehow always started a conversation. 'In writing the script, there were times I'd really want to talk to Terry, and also places where I'd figure something out and do something really clever, and I would want to share it with him. So, instead, I would text Terry's former personal assistant, Rob Wilkins, now his representative on Earth. It was the nearest thing I had.'
(...) As Neil himself recognizes, this is an adaptation built upon the confidence that comes from three decades of writing for page and screen. But for all the wisdom of experience, he found that above all one factor guided him throughout the process. 'Terry isn't here, which leaves me as the guardian of the soul of the story,' he explains. 'It's funny because sometimes I found myself defending Terry's bits harder or more passionately than I would defend my own bits. Take Agnes Nutter,' he says, referring to what has become a key scene in the adaptation in which the seventeenth-century author of the book of prophecies foretelling the coming of the Antichrist is burned at the stake. ‘It was a huge, complicated and incredibly expensive shoot, with bonfires built and primed to explode as well as huge crowds in costume. It had to feel just like an English village in the 1640s, and of course everyone asked if there was a cheap way of doing it. 'One suggestion was that we could tell the story using old-fashioned woodcuts and have the narrator take us through what happened, but I just thought, “No”. Because I had brought aspects of the story like Crowley and the baby swap along to the mix, and Terry created Agnes Nutter. So, if I had cut out Agnes then I wouldn't be doing right by the person who gave me this job. Terry would've rolled over in his grave.'
And, finally, this paragraph:
"Once again, Neil cites the absence of his co-writer as his drive to ensure that Good Omens translated to the screen and remained true to the original vision. 'Terry's last request to me was to make this something he would be proud of. And so that has been my job.'"
I think that's so heartwrenchingly beautiful, and so I wanted you all to read this, too, just in case you (like me) don't have the Good Omens TV Companion. It adds another layer of depth and emotion to this already complex and amazing story that we all know and love.
Share this post, if you can, please, so that more people can read these excerpts :")
Tagging @neil-gaiman, @fuckyeahgoodomens and @orpiknight, even if you've definitely read these before :)

Probably not for me to add on but two comments because this thread is interesting. It seems in Rr world immortality and God hood are not the same thing. My reasoning is the hunters, they become immortal and seemingly maintain any powers they already have but otherwise they're still very human. Treated as no different than very trained demigods. Therefore it stands to reason that making someone immortal is different/ operates on different rules than making someone a God, minor or otherwise.
Second point for thought I took a few classic courses in college (would have minored but one of the requirements was learning greek doesn't exactly mix well with a hearing disabilities) In that class I was taught that Mr D (basically dyslexic not spelling his name) was a God because of the removal as his human mother in his birthing process. To make a myth short. His mother was dusted by Zeus godly form. In other to save his son Zeus sowed him into his "thigh." I put air marks because this is the most popular version of the myth in modern time. Reading the original translation in clase apperently it was another word (I forget it's been years) where the translation alluded to him actually being sewed in the sky (I think a cloud to be exact) in not in Zeus thigh. So this could possibly tie into the whole gods giving some of their power (if we go with the first version) or something with domains, like Mr. D already intrinsically tied with the world/culture because he was birth from a domain . Either way Mr. D is an kind of represents all three elements of a god, cultural importance, having a domain, and believe in himself (yall should read his plays/ myths this guy was soooo overly confident, just a Lil cocky mf)
It seems what the empiros lack is a natural domain. Which might be why they can be immortal but without some God giving them power or some godly item that grants them God like power their never be God by themselves. Meanwhile since Apollo already has a domain he can grant himself immortality. Meanwhile MrD was basically always one step away from being a God. (if you know anything about Christianity and the iteration of Jesus always being God/ a part of God, that's Mr. D but like with Zeus in a way according to me but back by my professor who said that was a good analogy on my essay 😅)
Zeus actually has a lot of say over a lot of Olympians not just because of being the king but with most of them being derived from him in some way (for instance some people argue that because Athena is born of Zeus she despite being wisdom can't be wiser than Zeus or think too differently than him at least) and the other domains are tied to his (sun and moon need the sky, seas and ties need moon/sky, there's no harvest without the the sun, rain, etc which need the sky) the only equal to sky is the earth but... Insert rant about the dethroning of women in Greek mythology with turn the world from a matriarchy to a patriarchy or whatever which effectively "depowers" the earth so to say. It's why the earth even needs the other gods or humans according to the class. This only really leaves the underworld which doesn't need the sky to exist. For the Percy Jackson lore this could tie into part of the reason Zeus is like screw his brother. So Zeus could possibly be concern bc by this thread theory there's a lot of people who could possibly weaken him or at least he thinks so. This could also tie into why he can take the other gods powers. If one of the tier is belief in self it's hard to imagine yourself stronger or separate from Zeus if you're a Greek god because his domain is tied to the existence of your domain, not to mention all of culture (imagine if the sky just dipped) therefore they unknowingly give Zeus the power to take their Godlyness away without meaning to (this is why Apollo journey in toa is such a big deal)
I would also like to point out the elephant in the room, the og Percy Jackson series operates differently it's concept of Gods, Olympians, immortal, and all that stuff. Later series seem to use immortality and that basically being God hood interchangeably. Though it's fun to find a way it could all work.
If any one actually reads this, I apologize for how all over the place this tangent is I'm half asleep
what are your thoughts on the olympians’ thrones? we know that they are connected to the power of the gods, and that kronos’ tactic was to destroy olympus/their thrones in order to weaken them (so when kronos destroyed the arm rest of ares’ throne, did that weaken him during the battle with typhon?)
but why should the destruction of their thrones weaken them? isn’t the source of their power, their divinity, well, themselves? and what of minor gods? or what about during the first titanomachy? sorry for the lengthy question but it’s all very confusing and im interested in hearing your take.
SO
THE OLYMPIAN THRONES
first let's see what Dionysus had to say about this in The Last Olympian
"Whichever! Now listen, the situation is graver than you imagine. If Olympus falls, not only will the gods fade, but everything that is connected to our legacy will also begin to unravel. The very fabric of your puny little civilization—"
"Yes, yes. Your entire society will dissolve. Perhaps not right away, but mark my words, the chaos of the Titans will mean the end of Western civilization. Art, law, wine tastings, music, video games, silk shirts, black velvet paintings—all the things that make life worth living will disappear!"
"—the other gods would never admit this, but we actually need you mortals to rescue Olympus. You see, we are manifestations of your culture. If you don't care enough to save Olympus yourselves—"
Let's look at the third part first! Dionysus tells us that the gods are manifestations of human culture. And as we know, in the RRverse, the gods have moved around with the flame of progression, where the most human power is allocated. This is why they are in the US in the RRverse, and why they tend to reflect a more American culture (ie, Zeus in a CEO suit, Poseidon as a fisherman, Ares is a biker, ect.)
So what I'm getting from Dionysus's explanation here, is that the gods and human culture are intrinsically intertwined with each other. You can't have one without the other and all that. If human culture fades, the gods weaken, and if the gods weaken, human culture fades.
Something interesting to note here is that Dionysus says that the gods will fade if their thrones are destroyed...interesting, considering Dionysus and Percy also discuss how Pan faded.
But Pan didn't fade because of a lack of human belief/culture - he faded because his domain was being destroyed. Helios and Selene faded because they lost faith in themselves.
I think Dionysus might be overexaggerating a bit here. I don't think the gods would have necessarily faded if their thrones were destroyed- just significantly weakened. And perhaps, weak enough that if they ever just decided to give up...they would fade.
(Which brings up an interesting notion of Dionysus fearing them fading, because maybe that implies he thinks not all of them have the willpower to push through that...food for thought)
Kronos destroying Ares's arm rest is curious, since after the defeat of Typhon, we see the Olympian gods and nothing is out of the ordinary, even with Ares. So I'm guessing the arm rest getting cut off didn't exactly affect Ares, but if a larger piece of the throne or even the throne itself was sliced up? We'd have a different story.
I believe the source of the gods' power comes from a variety of places- mortal belief, their thrones, and belief in themselves. We see the latter occurring with Apollo in The Tower of Nero especially, where he's able to bring himself back into immortality on his own willpower, and I think we even see this happening with Hades and Poseidon, leaving their respected realms to come to the aid of Olympus and leaving behind their grudge (Hades) and ego (Poseidon) for the greater good.
This brings up an interesting idea, then. The Olympians have three main sources of power. But are they even aware of the third?
Because think about it. People, in series and out, have automatically assumed Helios and Selene faded because of a lack of mortal belief. But, that is not what happened, for they were still majorly worshipped- instead, it was a lack of faith in themselves. They lost their sense of self.
So I think the "power ranking" of these sources go as follows;
Belief in self
Mortal belief
Thrones
Mortal belief is often talked about, especially in ToA where Nero tells us mortals gave him a prolonged life and eventually immortality. He does not have a throne like the Olympians, though he does have a fasces, where his immortality is stored.
Could it be that the Olympian's immortality is stored in their thrones? Maybe. But remember, Nero is a wannabe god. There has to be drawbacks to that, and I bet the fasces was one of them. He has to contain his immortality in something, while the Olympians do not, because they are immortal. Full stop.
Now minor gods...this is a bit trickier, but I think minor gods have a power scaling of their own. The Olympians are on another level for godly power- they are The Squad so to speak.
How powerful minor gods are I think depends on their domain, as well as mortal belief/their own belief.
Hecate, for example, is probably exceptionally powerful for a minor goddess because of her position as the goddess of magic, the Mist, and crossroads among other things (did you know she has some influence over prophecy? ;3 she and Apollo were two sides of the same coin when it came to prophecy).
Iris is probably not as powerful as Hecate is, because, uh, rainbows aren't exactly powerful when it comes to magic XD
As for the Elder Olympians' power during the Titanomachy...that's also interesting to think about. Imo, I think their power grew over the time of the war, since they didn't really have the opportunity to fine-tune anything what with being in Kronos's stomach and all lol
Zeus probably got more practice in when he was young, but probably not as much when he became cupbearer. And I also think the symbols of power of the Big Three help channel their power- which now has a funny image because here are the guys learning how to focus their power with training wheels while the girls are just fucking around and finding out.
Demeter probably strangled a few people with her plants. Hera probably unleased a hoard of peacocks on someone. Hestia no doubt set a few things on fire.
lmao, that's funny to think about.
Anyway, finally got around to this one!!! :D

Am very grateful to the people following this story for being so patient. Not the least of which because I also want the next chapter to be done.
#like people have very much kept in the realm of 'I'm excited to see more' and 'I can't wait' and like. you know. NOT being mean about it#next ch...is really close actually. it's just that this is the most emotionally intense part of the whole thing. and doing that well is#really important to me. conveying what I want to convey is important to me. representing these characters authentically is#important to me. unfortunately this results in me taking forever to do anything or make any writing decisions with finality#(especially because like. they have to have a conversation. and they don't want to because. they're them. lmao.)#c2g#The Fic That's A Lot

Andrus Laansalu talked about making Disco Elysium at EKA (Estonian Academy of Arts)
"Initially, the church wasn't a focal point. There were certain characters that needed to visit this location, and I asked, "Seriously, what do we have in our church?" The others replied, "Nothing at all. Our church is completely bare—just a wheel, really. It's quite basic."
That's when I decided to unleash my creativity in the design. For example, they chose to install a glass structure at the top of the church to create a reflective surface. It was like placing an optical clock up there. Therefore, one of the most crucial aspects of designing the church was ensuring the lighting was just right to create the desired atmosphere."
"Let me show you an example of Baroque architecture, which is rich in detail. We're also designing the interior of the church based on large cathedrals. However, the foundation you use might not yield the expected results, because the church itself doesn't require such intricate details. Sometimes, it's about simplifying the design."
"I used Articy for the initial scriptwriting of Disco Elysium. The image only represents a tiny fraction of the text and choice variables involved. This system was also the reason I eventually abandoned the project after a year of outlining the script and shifted my focus to becoming a sound designer. My mind struggled to keep up with the dynamic graphic rules, but fortunately, a more talented writer took over afterward."
"In terms of sound design, it's essential to develop different layers to bring out the charm of the church as a cohesive space. Although this represents only a small portion of the overall design, each layer actually requires a significant amount of time to compose the whole....... Whenever there's a shift or a change due to the dialogue itself, you need to adjust the background sounds. Each time you modify the details in the dialogue, I have to refine the background audio, ensuring that these elements build upon each other like an intricate layer of work."
"It's funny how many scenes involve characters getting smacked in the face. My job was to recreate those, so I locked myself in the bathroom with a recorder and hit my forehead until it turned red.
As a sound designer, I really dig those unsettling, drill-like sounds. So, I mixed in creepy lectures, metal scraping, moans, and cries of pain—because I just love that stuff! (laughs)
Players will be moving through all kinds of areas, so it's super important to make the sound transitions feel natural, trying to create a more immersive vibe in certain spaces.
With all the scenes featuring big cranes, you can hear them from far away, and I wanted to capture that eerie ringing in your ears. That's going to be a thing throughout most of the game. I've found ways to really mess with players while they're playing!"
"I've come across a lot of old objects (like phones and radios) that I needed to perfectly replicate the sounds. I started to become a bit of a hoarder, buying up different models of old phones whenever I found one to add to my collection. The sound effects I can simulate from them are really impressive."
"Some of the devices don't actually exist in real life—just a mix of architecture and tech. When I need to create sound effects, I first look for something similar that exists in our world, then I try to simulate what the sound and appearance of that thing might have been like a century ago.
Towards the end of the game, there's a character carrying a fuel canister. We needed the sound of the canister, so we dug one up from our garage—it had been sitting there since it was five! I realized this would make the sound perfect. So, it had been there for 50 years, and after 40 years, it finally found its purpose.
In some places, I needed unique sound waves, and recreating them was a real headache until one day I happened to walk by a swimming pool and stumbled upon an old wartime torpedo. You can rotate the torpedo's probe, and it slowly rises up, like a proud zombie head. The sounds it made were exactly what I needed!"
🙋How did you manage to get funding?
"Well, since we're in Estonia, you just need to know a wealthy person. You don't need five people—just two who can network, hang out together, and convince them to keep investing! (laughs) Back then, we constantly ran out of money and would tell them, 'Oops, looks like we spent it all! Can you invest a bit more?' That's how we made it through!"
🙋How did you all come together to make the game?
"Luck. It usually doesn't happen this way, and that's the key difference. It has to be. If not, you couldn't create a game of this scale - well, I mean in terms of budget. But creatively, Estonia definitely has writers and artists who can pull it off. With such a small population, there are a lot of quirky folks who are good friends. We were really lucky, though - lots of fortunate circumstances came together. It brought the right people together, allowing those talented fools to collaborate with us. They had experience but hadn't tackled projects of this magnitude before. So yeah, luck is pretty important!"
