Me normally: Let people love what they love
Me, after a Test Match Special commentator expresses their belief that the new All Creatures Great and Small is somehow "better" than the 1978 version: This is pure insanity and TMS can no longer be trusted on anything, how can they even be trusted to know about cricket, do they have no TASTE
#Look it's fine that this show exists and people will watch it and like it and that's ok maybe it's just not for me#But that was like a statement purely designed to piss me off#There were lots of issues with the 1978 adaptation! I still vastly preferred the books any day!#And I actually initially had high hopes for the new one because they at least cast a Scot (albeit a Highlander not a Clydesider) as James#And the actors at least looked a little bit younger than Christopher Timothy and Robert Hardy#And thank god Helen actually sounds like she's a farmer's daughter and doesn't speak RP!#But from the half hour I've seen of it I've had to write off this new adaptation#For two major reasons#First of all there's Siegfried#Siegfried is one of the key central aspects of the vibe of the books and therefore key to any adaptation#Robert Hardy was too short and too old for the part but he lived and breathed the character#The twinkle in the eye bouncing off the walls and in and out of rooms followed by half a dozen dogs utterly full of life even when angry#But this new Siegfried is just sort of... Eeyore-esque; he comes into a room and you can see the flowers droop and the set turn grey#Siegfried was angry Siegfried was happy and the historical character he was based on was no stranger to melancholy#Since Donald Sinclair did commit suicide or rather self-euthanasia after Alf Wight and his own wife Audrey died#But this slow grumbly figure in the new adaptation is not Siegfried Farnon- the book character didn't grumble more often he exploded#And why did the adaptation give him a dead wife that's so weird? What could that possibly add to the source material?#And this brings me onto my second problem which is to do with women and age#Firstly I have no idea why they aged down Mrs Hall or at least made her look younger than a woman her age would have back then#But what really drove me mad was when Heriot goes out to see some old woman hill farmer in the episode I saw#And this woman is far too clean and young-looking and you can see that she's wearing 'natural' look make-up#And a perfect set of clothes that looked like they were straight out of the House of Bruar autumn collection catalogue#Say what you like about the 1978 adaptation but old women looked like old women regardless of whether or not they wore make-up#It may be that the better quality of television screens means that the 'natural look' shows up on screen more clearly than it would have#But natural look make-up was not really a thing in the 1930s and for old women Yorkshire hill farmers I doubt they'd have much on at all#They just don't seem to be capable of allowing people to look old and wrinkled and real or have bad teeth or unattractive clothes#And everything is far too tidy- everybody looks far too perfectly country and quaint#Anyway the moral of this story is of course that I always recommend reading the books because they're much better#than any tv adaptation; but if forced to choose at least the 1970s one felt real and yet didn't have to be grim either#Ok that's my rant over please do feel free to enjoy the show I just got annoyed because the opinion was expressed on TMS

Can I have Damian Priest x Fem reader x Dominik Mysterio where they are hanging out and a power outage happens and after lighting candles feelings are let out and kisses are shared?
Alien invasion || Damian Priest x Reader x Dominik Mysterio
Summary: A power outage leads to a fair bit of teasing and some confessions.
Tumblr media
The evening is winding down, the three of you cozied up on the couch, enjoying the simple pleasure of each other's company. The soft glow of the television screen casts a warm light over the room, creating an atmosphere of comfort and contentment. Laughter and conversation flow easily, punctuated by the occasional teasing remark.
But then, in the blink of an eye, the room is plunged into darkness. The sudden absence of light startles you, and you can't help but let out a surprised yelp. The darkness outside only intensifies the sense of unease that washes over you.
As you jump slightly, your movement causes you to shift, almost landing in Damian's lap. It's an involuntary reaction, one that you can't help but blush at as you realize how close you came to toppling over. Damian's deep chuckle rumbles beside you, and you can practically feel the amusement radiating off him.
"Easy there," he teases gently, his arm slipping around your waist to steady you.
Dominik, sitting on your other side, joins in with a good-natured laugh. "You'd think a power outage was an alien invasion or something."
You can't help but roll your eyes, though a grin tugs at your lips. "Oh, hush. It's just unexpected, that's all."
Damian and Dominik exchange a knowing look, clearly amused by your reaction. But then, their expressions soften, as if they've come to a silent agreement. A warm, golden light washes over the room as Damian lights a couple of candles. The flickering flames cast dancing shadows across the walls, creating an intimate ambiance that feels surprisingly comforting.
"There we go, much better," Damian says, his voice low and soothing.
You find yourself leaning into Damian's side, the warmth of his body offering a sense of security amidst the darkness. Dominik, on your other side, scoots closer as well, making sure you're all huddled together.
As the moments pass, the easy banter resumes, the candles adding an almost magical quality to the atmosphere. It's a shared experience, the three of you united in this unexpected moment. And then, as if prompted by the vulnerability of the situation, your voice slips out, unfiltered.
"You know," you begin, your words hesitating slightly, "you two are the only people I'd want to be stuck in the dark with."
Damian's gaze turns to you, his eyes gleaming in the soft candlelight. "What do you mean?"
Dominik's curiosity is piqued as well, his attention fully on you. "Yeah, spill."
You take a deep breath, gathering your courage. "I mean that you both make everything better. The darkness doesn't seem so scary when I'm with you."
A beat of silence follows, as if the weight of your confession hangs in the air. Then, without a word, Damian's hand reaches for your chin, guiding your face towards his. The kiss that follows is tender and filled with unspoken emotion, a silent affirmation of the feelings that bind you.
But the moment is short-lived, as Dominik's fingers find their way to your chin, his lips claiming yours with equal fervor. It's a dance of sensation and emotion, a symphony of shared affection that feels like the perfect culmination of everything that led you here.
As the candlelight dances around you, you find yourself nestled between Damian and Dominik, their arms wrapped securely around you. The darkness outside may remain, but within the circle of their embrace, you're bathed in a warmth and light that's entirely your own.

once again I've watched more anime than done anything else this week but I promise I also have other stuff to talk abt
listening (podcast):
Great Gundam Project: almost done with their 0079 episodes and it's so funny to hear how confused and surprised they are that Newtypes don't get mentioned until the last 10 episodes. also, once again, hearing them talk about Char reminds me that I miss seeing Char on my television screen :/
Palisade: once again it was crazy good this week. shout out to fucked up dream sequences/visions of alternate futures, gotta genuinely be one of my favorite storytelling devices
listening (music): MakeDamnSure by Taking Back Sunday, which is going on my Partizan/Palisade playlist for Balence reasons
reading:
Imperial Uncle: got to more fun reveals that make the main relationship a lot tastier and more fun. still having a good time with this one
The Death I Gave Him: part of the appeal of this book for me (other than that I love Hamlet & Hamlet retellings) is the romance with the sentient lab AI. this should shock absolutely no one (at least no one who knows me as the Sokrates/Integrity guy lol) but I'm real into stuff that explores like, how intimacy works when you don't each have your own separate bodies
A Power Unbound: also started & finished something I've been looking forward to, A Power Unbound by Freya Marske, the third book in a romance/historical fantasy trilogy (different main characters for each) set mostly in Edwardian England. I've enjoyed the other books in the series, and I enjoyed this one too (though I think I prefer the other two for reasons that probably don't have to do with the actual quality of this book and have more to do with what I like & don't like in a main relationship, and actually it's a testament to how strong the writing was that the relationship worked for me anyway, because it did feel earned in terms of both characterization & themes, even though it's the sort of relationship dynamic that I tend to be hesitant about because I often see it done very badly in fanfic in ways that do a disservice to the personalities of both characters involved). anyway. my actual review is that I love fucked up magic houses and there are several of those in this book so shout out to that, and one of the main characters is extremely my type (short, angry, hates the aristocracy, etc)
watching:
I'm in Love with the Villainess: we're caught up now, and I do love class conflict even if I'm sure it's going to be incredibly simplistic and silly because that's the show this is (which I am fine with, to be clear, this is a romance anime based on lovingly parodying otome games, I am treating it with the same kind of seriousness that I would treat something like Scum Villain)
Bakeoff: I'm glad that this year they seem to be better about not putting way too much weight on the showstopper and sometimes deciding star baker based on other challenges like. finally some respect for people who do really well in the signature!!
Legend of the Galactic Heroes: I mean. I've been posting through it about this one so I don't think I have any new insights here just. man. I love it when a major character death is done really well. what a show (positive)
Gundam Seed: you may, at this point, be asking why Seed is our next Gundam after finishing ZZ, especially when every week I talk about pining for Char. the answer is because my roommate watched some of it a while ago and wanted to revisit it, and also because we're saving Char's Counterattack for when we get really desperate for Gundam that isn't Seed. anyway. Seed is fun so far!
the above description of Gundam Seed was written a few days ago when we first started but before we got to the info dump about what's up with Coordinators & Naturals so I'm editing this to say: oof. it really is like what if someone took all of the parts of the original Newtype stuff that I was most skeptical about, took out all of the metaphorical stuff from Zeta that redeemed the concept for me, and then explicitly added literal eugenics. don't like that!
the other thing about Seed is the misogyny which like. god. at least the misogyny in Zeta felt more interesting to think about. at least it felt like Tomino was saying things about gender even if I didn't always like it. this is just peak early 2000s misogyny where everyone including the writers hates women so much that every man comes across as incredibly gay because their relationships with other men are treated so much more seriously
at this point you might be asking what I actually like about this show since I've been complaining for several paragraphs and the answer is I love it when childhood friends end up on the opposite sides of a war. also, a lot of Seed feels like it's trying very hard to Be A Gundam Show (for better or worse tbh, I can feel myself being marketed to, I can practically hear Bandai being like, hey remember how cool it is when a blue-and-white mobile suit fights a pinkish-red mobile suit, don't you want to buy some models), and I am not immune to classic Gundam shit like "oops these kids are involved in a war now because the military was developing a top-secret superweapon right next to where they live" and "your lives are at risk and/or you might get arrested for trying to protect your friends because the higher-ups are incompetent/selfish/do not care about you." I am also not immune to squads of edgy anime boys, or giant robots that each have their own special weapon/power, or whatever the fuck Le Creuset's got going on. I love him. I still miss Char and he's not quite filling that void but I do love him
playing:
another session of my Blades in the Dark campaign, based on the image below (from here). the crew was asked to get the sea serpent to go away and leave ships alone, and absolutely no one was surprised that the secret actual mission was to protect the sea serpent (a baby one) from the coast guard who were going to try to make it leave but more violently because we're playing Blades like it's a game about befriending creatures (see also: Missy is currently trying to resocialize a former fighting goat and Xiao Yun collects extremely fucked up birds)
Tumblr media
Ace Attorney 5: not very far into the trial but man. sorry for falling for the trilogy nostalgia but I love to have Edgeworth as a prosecutor, I love the energy that he and Phoenix have, I'm such a sucker for defense attorney & prosecutor working together to find the truth and also they're in love
making: vaguely spanakopita-inspired stuffed pastry wreath. we made it once before and put too much extra vegetable in that released too much water while it was baking so the dough just straight up did not cook. we did it better this time! the dough is actually baked! (it's store-bought crescent rolls, we did not make the dough). anyway. there's spinach and mushroom and herbed goat cheese in there, and it's tasty
Tumblr media
drinking: the grocery store had peppermint bark creme liqueur, and it's pretty good in hot chocolate
writing: continued to pick away at a zine fic, figured out what I want to write for my Nirvana in Fire exchange fic, and also did a little bit more on the Integrity fic that I've been working on. it has been a minute since I've written an action scene huh
The Principality knows how to contain divines, to leash them, to defang them and bend their powers to its will. And Integrity is an old divine, and never among the most awe-inspiring. Integrity is a small, quiet thing, precise and intimate and not suited for flashy displays of power like many of its fellows. But it is a divine nonetheless, and when it fights, it brings death. Orbit-and-Integrity steps into the corridor where the Princept fled. Orbit bares their remaining teeth, blood pooling in their mouth and seeping through the seams that begin to open in Integrity’s armor where it no longer has the focus to keep them closed.

Defending Jon Snow’s Honor
Re: "Jon Snow is Trash": Because if you accept the season eight depiction of Jon Snow as credible, then you might as well admit that Daenerys was mad all along.
Disclaimer: This is not a defense of Jon Snow's actions in season eight, but a refutation of his portrayal.
To begin, we must confront the elephant in the room: In season eight, the character of Daenerys Targaryen was butchered both literally and figuratively. It was such a brutal and heinous maiming of her character that by the end of the series, it was impossible to suspend disbelief and accept the inane and illogical choices of the writers.
But when you then turn around and insist that Jon Snow has always been "trash"—it's no different than the people who insist Daenerys has always been mad. The hit job on Jon Snow was, admittedly, a bit more subtle. But it was a hit job nonetheless. Do not let two talentless writers convince you that Jon Snow, at any point in season eight, acted within the bounds of his established character or even within in-universe show logic.
Because he didn't.
And no, I won't put any of this under a cut. Let the sheer length of this post serve as proof, itself, of just how dirty David Benioff and D.B. Weiss did Jon Snow.
Tumblr media
The Real Jon Snow
While the writing on Game of Thrones suffered the further the story strayed from the books and from its original creator, George R.R. Martin, season seven—for all its faults and imperfections—still seemed to follow the natural progression of the story. Everyone still felt more or less in-character, particularly Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen.
So, that's where we'll start. To me, season seven Jon Snow is the rough culmination of exactly where I believe his story arc will lead—and it's a great season to help showcase his qualities.
Regardless of any personal preference for characters, in season seven, Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen are equals. She is a queen and he is a king.
When they meet, she appeals to her power and her claim by inheritance in order to convince Jon to bend the knee. Of course, it was never going to be that easy. Jon's a stubborn man and he has no reason to put his blind faith into well, anyone.
It is only upon revealing her true nature—her selflessness and willingness to use her power to help others—that Daenerys earns not only his respect, but his heart.
To say that "Jon Snow was always trash" is an insult to Daenerys and her judgment.
Dany's love for Khal Drogo was born of adaptation, to make the best of a situation she never asked for. Unlike Jorah Mormont, Jon's devotion to Daenerys had nothing to do with her looks. Unlike Daario Naharis, Jon's devotion to Daenerys had nothing to do with her power or status... and everything to do with who she is fundamentally. Jon Snow pledged to fight for Daenerys based on the content of her character rather than her beauty.
Further, Daario Naharis really stood face to face with Daenerys Targaryen, the Mhysa, and said "fuck the people". Meanwhile, it is Jon Snow's mysterious scars that prove he and Daenerys harbor similar ideologies—demonstrating that Jon is willing to stop at nothing for his people—even if it requires giving his own life.
Many have called Jon Snow "stupid" for exactly this, completely missing the point that there are qualities that deserve to be held in higher esteem than self-preservation or cleverness.
Compassion.
Self-sacrifice.
Humility.
Dignity.
Honesty.
When Jon Snow declares his loyalty to Daenerys in the Dragonpit in front of everyone—this is yet another moment people like to point to as "stupid", yet...
"I'm not going to swear an oath I can't uphold. When enough people make false promises, words stop meaning anything. Then there are no more answers, only better and better lies."
Jon Snow's integrity is more important to him than lying just to save his own hide. After all, he tried that once before, and the only thing it resulted in was heartache and regret. Jon Snow more or less asserts that a life wherein he must pretend to be something he isn't—isn't a life worth living.
This is as profound a revelation as it is bold.
Whether or not you agree with his convictions... Jon Snow's moral foundation is as unyielding as Valyrian steel. It is no wonder that this was the man who ultimately won the heart of Daenerys Targaryen. A man whose favor cannot be bought or exploited.
One fundamental change in Jon Snow's character from page to screen, however, is his ambition. This emphasis on his reluctance in ruling becomes an unfortunate cornerstone of season eight. But if Jon Snow's book counterpart—the one who dreamt of becoming Lord of Winterfell, of conquering and leading men into glory—lacks this hesitation, and instead, takes leadership so seriously that he only celebrates becoming Lord Commander with one gulp of alcohol... then what impact could his ambition have on the story?
Upon learning that Jon is Rhaegar's son, it's easy to jump to the conclusion that he'll suddenly start vying for the Iron Throne. But if Jon Snow pledges himself to Queen Daenerys in the books, then we have every reason to believe his word is as good as gold. Jon is not a man who takes his oaths lightly. Nor is he a man who is easily manipulated.
Jon Snow deciding to swear fealty to anyone is momentous.
Take, for instance, Stannis Baratheon. Jon's 'father', Ned, pretty much died in support of Stannis' claim to the throne, so he approaches the boy and appeals to Jon's deepest desire—the first thing he can remember wanting—to become a Stark.
All he had to do was say the word, and he would be Jon Stark, and nevermore a Snow. All he had to do was pledge this king his fealty, and Winterfell was his. All he had to do ... was forswear his vows again. And this time it would not be a ruse. To claim his father's castle, he must turn against his father's gods.
This is not an easy decision for Jon Snow. He spends a great deal of time considering the offer from just about every angle one can. Admittedly, it's hard to showcase deep internal reflection on a television show, so we didn't really get to see that process for Jon on screen. But it's always been apparent that two men of privilegeDavid Benioff and D.B. Weiss—struggle in writing from the perspective of a bastard. Fundamentally, they cannot fully inhabit Jon as a result, because they've never experienced a lifetime of unprovoked contempt, resulting in an unfortunate lack of depth in Jon's translation from page to screen.
Even so, we do get some insight into the depth of Jon's character in season seven when Theon Greyjoy says to Jon:
"You've always known what was right. Even when we were all young and stupid, you always knew. Every step you take, it's always the right step."
In turn, Jon replies:
"It's not. It may seem that way from the outside, but I promise you, it's not true. I've done plenty of things that I regret."
So, by the time that Jon must decide whether or not to accept Stannis Baratheon's offer, he does so with the consideration of future regret. It is in a reflective moment that Jon decides that his greatest desires are not worth the moral expense.
And so, Jon refuses to betray his father's gods, and remains a Snow.
The Kinslaying Problem
Speaking of gods... Way back in his wildling heyday, Ygritte recounts the tale of Bael the Bard to Jon Snow, in which she reveals a curious detail:
"The gods hate kinslayers, even when they kill unknowing."
While you could make the case that this foreshadows Jon as a kinslayer regarding Daenerys... considering it was their kinship that drove a wedge right through their relationship in show canon, it's safe to say season eight Jon knew full well he was kin to Daenerys when he killed her. So what else could this quote mean?
The "kinslayer who kills unknowing" probably won't refer to Daenerys at all—but the mysterious figure known in the books as the Night's King, of whom all records have been destroyed, his very name forbidden.
But... Old Nan insists we do know his name. At least one of them:
"He was a Stark, the brother of the man who brought him down."
Keep in mind that it's Bran she tells, not Jon. And her words even echo the kinslaying element between these mysterious and legendary figures in and around the North.
Interestingly, one of the most prominent kinslayers in the story is the one who, in season eight, ultimately convinces Jon Snow to murder his queen. And somehow, it takes virtually no effort on Tyrion's part to persuade Jon Snow to commit not only regicide, but kinslaying (whatever happened to "The man that passes the sentence should swing the sword"?)
This may mean nothing in the show, but in the books it's reiterated over and over again we're told how accursed such an act is. And we have a pretty good example that it might be true. Rickard Karstark warned Robb Stark prior to his execution by the Young Wolf's hand:
"We are kin, Stark and Karstark. Old gods or new, it makes no matter. No man is so accursed as the kinslayer."
And we all know the fate that befell Robb Stark.
The Incest Problem
Speaking of kin... let's talk incest! While there's no question that on earth, discovering you've been copulating with your aunt might be a cause for surprise... In Westeros? It's not even considered incest. No, not even in the North, where we're given two examples of uncle-to-niece pairings:
"In Westeros incest is only applied if father lays with daughter, mother lays with son, or brother to sister, and the children of such unions are considered abominations. The views regarding marriages between an uncle and a niece (or an aunt to a nephew) might differ between the Faith and the old gods. In the north, Serena Stark had been wed to her half-uncle, Edric, while her sister Sansa Stark had been wed to her half-uncle Jonnel Stark."
In the original draft of the story, Jon was supposed to have a romantic relationship with Arya Stark—his cousin by blood, but who, for all he knows, is his sister. Seeds of this are still scattered in early chapters of ASOIAF, as illustrated by the sheer tenderness of their relationship in A Game of Thrones.
For years, Arya Stark was the only woman who treated Jon with respect. It's no wonder that his feelings for her have always bordered on romantic (and let me make a clear distinction here—I said romantic, not sexual). Considering that it was George's original plan, it's pretty safe to guess that being a willing participant in an incestuous relationship is not necessarily out of character for Jon Snow, as was predetermined by the man who created him.
Jon Snow is a polarizing character for people who love Targaryens and hate Starks—and vice versa. Whether or not you like it, Jon Snow is a Targaryen. And thus, the Doctrine of Exceptionalism applies to him, which states:
"The Targaryens wed brother to sister as the Valyrians had always done, and as the gods had made them this way, it was not for men to judge."
While the show canon did next to nothing with Jon Snow's true Targaryen lineage—never forget that the entire reason David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were given the rights to Game of Thrones was that they could correctly answer the question "Who is Jon Snow's mother?"
An incestuous scandal was the best that the lackluster show writers could come up with. And to then accept that the only reason George R.R. Martin penned this central plot twist in his medieval fantasy story exclusively to create some modern-era incest drama is, frankly, insulting.
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are creatively barren. As barren as... um, Daenerys apparently?
To further exploit the show's lack of logical reasoning—it turns out that, yes, according to show canon, Daenerys was barren the whole time. While Jon doubted the validity of Mirri Maz Duur's claims... he was wrong. And Daenerys was straightforward with him that their union would produce no offspring. And apparently, despite all the wasted dialogue used to foreshadow, she was right.
This means that even within the boundaries of the show's broken logic, the anti-incest angle never held water.
So... if season eight Jon Snow's rejection of Daenerys is what ultimately causes her to "snap", yet it's unlikely that book Jon Snow will feel the same strong aversion about their relation... will she "snap" at all?
The Execution Problem
When it comes to the 'old way', Ned Stark has taught his sons well, Jon Snow among them:
"We hold to the belief that the man who passes the sentence should swing the sword. If you would take a man's life, you owe it to him to look into his eyes and hear his final words. And if you cannot bear to do that, then perhaps the man does not deserve to die."
When Jon encounters Ygritte, he can't bring himself to kill her despite the command to. She reminds him of his sister, Arya—the girl he loves the most in all the world. And so, he asks Ygritte to yield. Jon Snow, simply reminded of a girl he loves, cannot bring himself to kill Ygritte.
Later, we directly witness Jon applying Ned's logic to his execution of Janos Slynt. After advising Janos on how best to achieve a quick death, he says:
"If you have any last words, now is the time to speak them."
"Please, my lord. Mercy. I'll … I'll go, I will, I …"
No, thought Jon. You closed that door. Longclaw descended.
Like his father before him, Jon advised Janos to speak his last words. And upon hearing them, deemed him fit to die.
This is Jon Snow's execution style.
We see it repeated even in season six when he executes his murderers:
"If you have any last words, now is the time."
Patiently, he waits for each of his four murderers to speak before letting them hang.
This is Jon Snow's execution style.
Alternatively, we see another style of execution when it comes to Jon Snow's own murder, as carried out by Alliser Thorne. Let's just go ahead and refer to this style as dishonorable and cowardly (two qualities that we've now established that Jon Snow does not possess).
Jon Snow was led, unarmed, into a false sense of security—where he was then cornered and stabbed in the heart by his enemies, left lying in a pool of his own blood.
The change in Jon Snow's execution style to suddenly emulate the way in which he was murdered is a cold-blooded betrayal of Jon's character.
But back to Janos.
On the surface, Jon Snow made a snap decision to execute Janos Slynt for disobeying a command—though if we're being honest, it was more-so because Janos was an entitled and sniveling Lannister loyalist that couldn't be trusted, or, a clever political move to ensure Jon’s future safety as Lord Commander.
Jon then severed the man's head as he cried and begged for his life.
Tumblr media
You expect us to believe that this man...
Tumblr media
...would be bothered by the execution of attempted murderer and traitor, Varys? A man who openly suggested they collude and commit treason?
Tumblr media
While the above gif looks a little more like the Jon Snow we know, it’s not. Especially considering the writers tried their hardest to make us believe Jon Snow is incapable of dishonesty and lying, even by omission, he neglects to tell Daenerys of Varys’ treasonous ways. He cannot lie to his siblings or to Daenerys about his Targaryen identity, yet he can omit a very troubling piece of information regarding one of the allies of the woman he loves and is pledged to. What?
Further, compare the execution below with the above gifs of Jon Snow's two executions. He even shows more satisfaction in the deaths of the lives he’s taken than Daenerys did. Varys surviving means Dany’s life will forever be at risk. Not only is Varys an oathbreaker, but he attempted regicide by poison. Having Jon Snow judge Daenerys for this action is a blatant double standard that makes zero logical sense.
Tumblr media
And speaking of attempted murderers... Let's discuss Randyll Tarly.
Randyll Tarly is no stranger to Jon Snow. Sam told him all about his father way back in episode four of season one:
"You're almost a man now, but you're not worthy of my land and title. Tomorrow, you're going to take the black, forsake all claim to your inheritance and start north. If you do not, then we'll have a hunt, and somewhere in these woods your horse will stumble, and you'll be thrown from your saddle to die. Or so I'll tell your mother. Nothing would please me more."
So, you're going to tell me that Jon Snow is suddenly perturbed by the execution of a man who both threatened to murder his own son and who betrayed his liege lord?
Tumblr media
To fight alongside the Lannisters, no less?
According to the books, this is what Jon Snow thinks of the Lannisters:
"It's death and destruction I want to bring down upon House Lannister, not scorn."
And in case you missed it, this is how Jon Snow punishes those who betray their liege lords:
Tumblr media
Maybe you’re itching to argue that it’s Dany’s execution style that is the problem. That perhaps, 'death by fire is heinous and cruel! Beheading and hanging and punching someone to death are all "merciful" deaths!' Because, stupefyingly, that's a popular argument for those that (also stupefyingly) defend Randyll Tarly.
That argument might work if not for the fact that Jon instructed his men to launch flaming arrows at the Battle of Castle Black, thus using fire as a means to kill.
Tumblr media
The Arya Stark Problem
We've already discussed Arya Stark a little bit in terms of her deep bond with Jon Snow... but in order to truly show how out-of-character their reunion was, we need to backtrack a little bit.
Upon gifting her Needle, Jon and Arya have this exchange in the books:
"And whatever you do..."
Arya knew what was coming next. They said it together.
"...don't ... tell ... Sansa!"
Not only do the pair have an understanding which excludes their sister or trusting her with sensitive information... when Arya is caught with Needle later on, this happens:
Arya chewed her lip and said nothing. She would not betray Jon, not even to their father.
And when Arya attempts to shed her identity at the House of Black and White, she can't bring herself to part with Needle, because:
Needle was Jon Snow's smile. The Many-Faced God can have the rest, she thought, but he can't have this.
Arya Stark refuses to part with the physical representation of Jon Snow's smile.
For the most anticipated reunion in the entire show, it fell flat. Don't get me wrong, it was exhilarating to see Jon Snow and Arya Stark embracing after being apart for a decade—and Kit Harington and Maisie Williams did their absolute best with the poor dialogue they were given.
But this was not the reunion of two characters who survived some of their toughest challenges by merely recalling the memory of the other. Jon and Arya shared a bond that nothing could tarnish—not even time. A bond that no one—not even their fellow family members—could penetrate.
The nerve of the writers making Arya Stark, one of the cleverest characters in the books despite her age, say that Sansa Stark is the smartest person she's ever met? No. For one, Arya Stark did not need to live as a bastard in order to empathize with them—which means that even as a little girl, she possessed wisdom that is years ahead of her elder sister's.
Much like Jon Snow, Arya Stark is not a character who is easily persuaded by the opinions of others. Which is why she and Jon are close at all—she never once believes the stigma attached to his bastardy, because it's so blatantly obvious to her that his character simply doesn't fit the rhetoric.
I'd be willing to bet that Jon's incredibly loyal sister would trust his judgment in pledging himself to Daenerys. And I won't for a minute believe that the girl who said to Gendry...
"I can be your family."
...would suddenly regress into intolerance, particularly not at someone else's behest.
I won't believe for a minute that the girl who said...
"The woman is important too!"
...would turn around and suggest that the woman who provided her armies, dragons, and resources to save the North should then be discarded afterward.
I won't believe for a minute that the girl who makes allies and friends everywhere she goes would turn around and argue that allies aren't important.
I won't believe for a minute that the girl who named her direwolf after the warrior queen Nymeria, the girl who said...
"He killed the slave?" That did not sound right. "He should have killed the masters!"
...wouldn't at least give the person she loves the most in all the world, Jon Snow, a few minutes to explain why he supports and believes in Daenerys.
Lastly, there is absolutely no reason to believe that Arya Stark would ever betray Jon Snow. It is an insult to one of the purest and tenderest relationships in the entire series to suggest otherwise.
Tumblr media
The Winterfell Problem
Even on Jon Snow's AWOIAF Wiki page, he is described as "quick to sense a slight", as well as observant, "a trait he developed on account of being a bastard".
Yet, during the feast following the Night King's death... Jon Snow is suddenly portrayed as oblivious all in service to the plot to alienate Daenerys. Jon Snow's sudden disinterest in the woman he spent season seven so intently studying was both frustrating and compromising to his character traits.
After all, the most impressive leader Jon Snow has ever witnessed followed him into his homeland to save his men for nothing to gain (and in fact, to sacrifice her own men and resources), not just for the man she loves—but because it's the right thing to do.
The writers really expect us to believe that this man, who turned Janos Slynt's insubordination into an example of what happens to men who openly disrespect him and his orders...
Tumblr media
...is going to suddenly sit idly by while his own people make a fool of him by disrespecting his chosen queen, and by extension, him.
Don't let the writers believe for an instant that he would stand for it.
Taking a step further back, what in seven hells was going on during that battle?
The betrayal to Jon Snow's character is the most glaring during episode three of season eight, in which the writers really decided to sideline the most talented and quick-thinking swordsman in their cast (next to Furdik—who, by the way, was also sidelined).
Jon Snow conveniently forgets virtually everything he learned from defending the Wall in season four and reclaiming Winterfell in season six. The King in the North who travels all the way to Dragonstone for not only dragonglass, but in hopes of gaining the help of the queen and her armies is really going to let one of those armies gallop head-first into the army of the undead with metal weapons? Jon Snow is the first character in the show to learn that regular weapons don't work against wights!
Tumblr media
And while it may not be Jon Snow's fault that the trebuchets managed to make it to the front line of all places, he certainly would've pointed out the flaw in that decision. As well as the placement of the trenches—which physically severed the troops from the safety of the castle upon retreat. Retreat, if necessary, would be a priority for Jon Snow especially, as he, above everyone else, knows that every fallen man means one more undead soldier they must deal with.
And speaking of the trenches...
To add insult to injury, the writers really decided to add a shot of Jon Snow sitting idly next to the trenches on top of Rhaegal, a dragon that he was just using to light the dead on fire, as Melisandre struggled to light them with magic:
Tumblr media
What? You mean this Jon Snow?
Tumblr media
The Jon Snow that once used his quick-thinking to discover that fire kills wights... doesn't think to use dragonfire to light a trench on fire? Come on.
And since when has Jon Snow ever balked during battle? Of all the characters, he's one of the few who actually understands what the Night King is, how big his army is, what the odds are, and what it's like to be in the midst of not only battles—but ones that are going really poorly.
Yet at Winterfell—the place he fought so hard to reclaim and that he reluctantly went south to rally support for in order to protect it—he suddenly has no idea what to do? He's historically one of the most quick-witted and innovative fighters in the entire show, if not the most.
And speaking of battles...
"We find our true friends on the battlefield"
Whether or not you agree with the writers' choice to have Sam attempt to persuade Jon to commit treason against his queen... I just cannot accept that Jon Snow willingly turns away from his oldest friend in a moment like this:
Tumblr media
Even in the most hopeless of situations, Jon Snow won't hesitate to save someone he loves. Like when he tried, against all odds, to save Rickon.
Tumblr media
Even with complete strangers, Jon Snow has shown his gallantry.
Tumblr media
As well as his aptitude for forgiveness.
Tumblr media
Whether or not Samwell Tarly offended Jon, he would never leave him to die. Their principals may no longer converge the way they once did... but never forget that when, in the books, Chett suggests Thorne should kill Sam for being weak, Jon speaks up on Sam's behalf:
"Lords are gold and knights steel, but two links can't make a chain. You also need silver and iron and lead, tin and copper and bronze and all the rest, and those are farmers and smiths and merchants and the like. A chain needs all sorts of metals, and a land needs all sorts of people. You can't hammer tin into iron, no matter how hard you beat it, but that doesn't mean tin is useless."
The Night King Problem
Speaking of the battle for Winterfell... By denying Jon Snow the climax to his story arc—squaring off with the Night King—and instead, granting that honor to Arya Stark (who has no relation to anything happening north of the Wall in either book or show...) it disrupts the natural conclusions for both characters.
Jon Snow and the Night King had unfinished business—at least, that's what all those long and intense stare-downs seemed to indicate. Even in the books, the only POV chapters that mention the Night's King are Jon, Bran, and Sam.
Tumblr media
Kit Harington was very gracious when trying to explain why he would've liked to get the killing blow:
"I was a bit pissed off, only because I wanted to kill the Night King! I think I felt like everyone else did, in that it had been set up for a long time, and then I didn't get to do it."
Tumblr media
But even in all his graciousness, Kit points out that it's been set up for a long time. And you know what George R.R. Martin has to say about changing your plan mid-stream:
"If you planned your book that the butler did it and then you read on the internet that someone has figured out that the butler did it and then you suddenly change in mid-stream and it was the chambermaid who did it? Then you screw up the whole book because you've got this foreshadowing early on and you've got these little clues you've planted and now they're dead ends... and you have to introduce other clues and you're retconning. It's a mess."
Yet... The fact that Jon Snow vs. the Night King made sense was exactly why the writers chose not to do it!
"We hope to kind of avoid the expected and Jon Snow has always been the hero, the one who's been the savior. But it just didn't seem right to us for this moment."
Sure, Arya Stark killing the Night King "subverted expectations" (I'm so sick of typing those two words together at this point, but it's impossible not to do when trying to discuss season eight)... but at what cost? The cost of any emotional impact.
Just like virtually everything else in the last season.
(As an aside, if the writers really felt Arya Stark was the right person to land the killing blow, they should've had Jon lose the swordfight and before the Night King is able to finish him, his ride-or-die sister comes flying out of the darkness to save his life. The audience gets what they were promised and Arya still gets to be the hero in a way that not only makes sense, but fits her character…)
Of course, the showdown with the Night King was not the first major plot point that was teased over the course of the series to be ultimately robbed from Jon Snow.
Nor would it be the last...
The Prophecy Problem
To claim that Jon piercing Dany's heart with a quick sneak attack has any resemblance to the legend of Azor Ahai is a gross oversimplification. Let's take a look at what the legend actually says:
"He summoned his wife. 'Nissa Nissa,' he said to her, for that was her name, 'bare your breast, and know that I love you best of all that is in this world.' She did this thing, why I cannot say, and Azor Ahai thrust the smoking sword through her living heart. It is said that her cry of anguish and ecstasy left a crack across the face of the moon, but her blood and her soul and her strength and her courage all went into the steel."
Yes. Daenerys was stabbed in the heart. That is the only similarity her season eight murder bears to the above legend.
Where was the declaration of love? Where was the permission asked? Where was the consent given? There was no cry of anguish and ecstasy—there was a gasp and a gurgle. Dany's life was not given in exchange for anything, it was simply taken. There was no transference of courage or strength—just a quick and (troublingly) unimpactful "shock" death.
Of course, it's important to point out that Azor Ahai is never even mentioned in the show. And while The Prince that was Promised was mentioned (as late as season seven)... So far as show canon goes, this prophecy meant absolutely nothing in the end.
Tumblr media
That makes two of us, Kit.
Jon Snow (and Kit Harington) Also Deserved Better
Aside from George R.R. Martin, the man who knows Jon Snow best, Kit Harington, was overcome with heartache, disbelief...
Tumblr media
...and frustration upon reading the treacherous turn his character took in the season eight script.
Tumblr media
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss completely neutered Jon Snow's character.
Figuratively and well, maybe literally? Year after year, they have shown themselves to be petty and spiteful with various cast and crew—from Kit Harington to Ian McElhinney to Alexander Siddig to George R.R. Martin, himself.
Remember that stupid dig at Jon Snow's penis size upon his resurrection? Just a dumb joke, right?
Or was it?
It was sure important enough for them to go on record with major publications and clarify that, no, it wasn't just a joke, but canon! Pay very close attention to how it's worded:
"He just had the look. The brooding intensity; the physical grace; the chip-on-the-shoulder quality that we always associate with extraordinarily short people.
There has to be some downside to being Kit Harington, right? It's impossible not to like him. Maddening. The one thing we can do is saddle his character with a tiny pecker."
This isn't about Jon Snow's penis. It's about taking Kit Harington down a peg. Not only did they give Jon Snow a canonically "small penis", they had to give Daenerys lines about how he's "too little for her", to poke fun at Kit's height. You know, because he's apparently "extraordinarily short".
Utterly juvenile.
Much like with Tyrion Lannister, Jon Snow's cleverness far exceeded that of the men who were in charge of writing him—and they failed to replicate it. And so, the further Jon Snow strayed from his creator, George R.R. Martin, the further his IQ dropped until, by season eight, he was reduced to a bumbling idiot shouting at dragons and saying little more than "muh queen". Why? Because if you're actually an idiot, you cannot write a clever person.
As for the books, Jon Snow's true fate remains to be seen. And for as much as I don't want to get my hopes up for a better ending, I cannot ignore that Jon Snow's foreshadowing just doesn't point to futility, and that if it does—George R.R. Martin sure put in a lot of work to convince us otherwise.
As the man, himself, recently said:
"People know an ending—but not the ending."
It is as much an insult to Jon Snow to have Daenerys descend into spontaneous madness as it was for the fans who loved her. Over the years, Jon has proven himself to be a great judge of character—and this was the man who assured Daenerys, in her most vulnerable moment, that she does deserve to be the queen of the Seven Kingdoms.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After all, there’s just no denying their similarities as characters:
"From the very beginning, Jon and Daenerys' stories have paralleled and contrasted each other, with both starting from a position of weakness and insubordination before ascending into leadership roles. Both had to maneuver their way through the difficulties of power while maintaining their sense of justice, and in doing so, had to face many hard decisions along the way. Both were mocked, attacked, and betrayed for doing the right thing. Both reached their low points and were figuratively reborn at the same time, both coming out stronger as a result." -Brandon Jacobs
If you loved Jon Snow prior to season eight, you were never wrong or misled, nor was your judgment unsound. I hope that, somewhere in this post, there was at least one example that reminded you of why Jon Snow was able to win your heart in the first place. Writers who don't understand the most fundamental qualities of a character should not be given the power to rob you of your love for them.
I am willing to bet that like me, and like all of Jon Snow's fans... you know him better than the two men who were granted the honor of writing his television canon. An honor they proved in season eight that they never deserved.
Please do not grant these two incompetent writers and poor storytellers the power to turn you against one character while praising the other, especially when both were ruined beyond repair or recognition.
Forgiving Jon Snow as a character ≠ condoning what he did in season eight, just as forgiving Daenerys Targaryen ≠ condoning mass genocide.
Tumblr media
Like Daenerys, Jon Snow deserved better.

What is the 4k resolution? This question typically arises from the demand to update the quality of screen in contemporary Televisions or to make them suitable with the brand-new hd layout. An HD tv supplies a more clear image with less distortion, meaning that it might be more effective for some viewers. Nevertheless, the expense of HD television sets is increasing, as well as they are a lot more expensive than CRTs, which provide much better color accuracy and also are much cheaper to create. As an example, consider how photos look when printed in black and white. This quel moniteur 4k is not an especially uphill struggle to understand given the fact that there is a natural human tendency to see white and also black information as being of reduced resolution than its color counterpart. Nevertheless, watching electronic info in its true type (as represented by a color or grey range) can be incredibly difficult to do, as it calls for the resolution to be a minimum of 5 times higher than the comparison ratio of the real display screen. For those watching electronic web content on plasma TV's, this does not need to be the case, given that they will have the ability to appreciate the full benefit of the resolution by just checking out the display screen.
Among the reasons why the top quality of the images generated on a plasma TV will constantly be higher than those seen on an LCD screen is as a result of the fact that LCD's have an action time that is much slower than the feedback time of a plasma TELEVISION. Since LCD's have much less pixels per inch than their plasma tv equivalents, one more reason as to why this is the case is. Since it indicates that the picture presented is sharper and clearer than other forms of display, what is the 4k resolution is crucial to consumers. One might additionally specify that what is the 4k resolution is essential since the increased intensity makes it feasible for the customer to view electronic pictures in their true kind without having to make the sacrifices called for when watching on an LCD display.

Recognizing The Basic Interpretation High Quality Of The New Resolution 4k TELEVISION
If you have actually been hearing about the latest, greatest hd format for televisions, you probably have heard the term "resolution 4k" as well. This term refers to an improved horizontal display screen resolution of regarding 4,100 pixels. Digital television and movie theater typically utilize a variety of various 4K resolution criteria. It is typically believed that the quality of pictures in Widescreen layout are much more consistent than that of Quad HD. However, the truth is that the type of format you choose to watch your shows or movies on might impact just how clear as well as crisp your images are. On a Quad HDTV, the specific test moniteur 4k 32 pouces pixels are far more blurred as well as everything shows up more distorted, causing a much more severe photo that can be more difficult to look at.
The factor behind this distinction in top quality is since there are much less lines of resolution in between each quad-core device (visuals processing system) in the widescreen format and the additional pixels in the extra setting. When a TELEVISION or LCD remains in widescreen setting, it presents the exact same quantity of vertical as well as straight resolution that was currently present, however with added pixels included in each side. In this instance, the result is a lower resolution that has actually been increased by a better amount of horizontal and vertical resolution. Quad HD resolution has a broader range of quality as contrasted to widescreen, as well as is therefore the much better option for HD videos.

youtube
HDTV and standard interpretation both vary in physical size, but not in pixel resolution. For example, digital tv resolutions will certainly vary in between 1080i and also 1080p relying on the supplier. 1080i represents the greatest feasible resolution as well as one of the most common kind of HDTV. 1080p describes a basic interpretation resolution, which normally refers to reduced top quality than 1080i. The difference in between the two resolutions is generally only visible at specific watching angles, such as when watching a film at an angle or from an angle that is slightly off-center. If you are preparing to buy a new HDTV, it is necessary to make certain you're obtaining the very best resolution available by contrasting the different resolutions and also functions of each supplier.
One method to determine the difference between these 2 resolutions is to contrast the "pixels" - or dots - per inch of image provided through each. In comparison to basic definition, the quantity of pixels provided by an HDTV with a higher resolution is typically a lot higher, hence offering a better picture. As a result of this, many home owners are updating to HDTVs to enjoy the incredible image quality of a real digital signal. Nevertheless, if you still want to view HD web content on a routine television with a conventional interpretation screen, then you can constantly change back to your old TV with a high definition antenna or go out as well as acquire an HDTV with the consisted of alternative.

Saeyoung’s Girl (707 x MC x Saeran)
I really wanted to participate in Choi Sandwich Week! So, I guess this is my contribution. This is from Saeran’s POV by the way. It’s a bit short, but I hope you still appreciate it anyway :)
@choisandwichweek
Day 2: Nostalgia/Jealousy
My lips tugged slightly upward, painting a slight smile onto my face. Giggles spilled from MC’s lips, her hand almost useless in muffling her laughter. I felt a small warmth spread evenly through my chest, sprouting from the pride I felt at being able to make her laugh like that. I did that. Sure, she was amused by Saeyoung’s jokes as well, but there was a hopeful voice in the back of my mind that told me she laughs with just a smidge of a higher intensity at mine. Some cheesy romcom was droning on in the background, which happened to be the subject of my apparently hilarious mockery. Saeyoung was out for whatever reason, which I was okay with. The truth is, I prefer being alone with MC. She helps me relax and become comfortable, because she treats me like I’m normal, not some broken doll being pieced back together, which is how everyone else seems to see me.
“God, Saeran...you’re going to kill me one of these days.” MC spoke as she clutched her sides, trying to regain her breath. Her arm shot out as she aggressively ruffled my newly ginger locks, which I pretended to hate.
“Oh, you’re asking for it now.” I made my voice as gruff as possible, coaxing pearls of laughter from her mouth again. Whatever random movie forgotten, I initiated an all out assault of pokes, tickles, and hair tussles.
“Okay, okay! Truce!” MC’s words drifted out between gasping breaths as she halfheartedly shoved me away from her. A soft smile still brightened my face as I slumped back against the couch, training my eyes back on the TV screen. “Geez, you know that Saeyoung doesn’t believe me when I tell him what you’re like when he’s not home?” Without thinking, the smile was wiped from my face at the mention of my brother. “You don’t have to answer, but why are you so different when he’s home?” I shrugged nonchalantly, trying to look uninterested.
“Past trauma, I guess.” She nodded, honey brown eyes moving back to the television as well. Deep down, I knew that wasn’t the true explanation anymore. It might have been at a time, but not now. Not that I knew the reason, because I really didn’t. It was something I just couldn’t quite put my finger on. Not that it mattered. We sat in silence for a moment, the romcom still weaving its way to our ears, albeit in vain, since the only thing we were listening to was our respective thoughts.
“I’m proud of you, you know.” My gaze found hers, and as it did, I saw that she meant every word. Just like that, that warm feeling spread again. This time, it covered more than just my chest, and it seemed to flood all the way from my ears to my toes. It was a strange feeling that was uncomfortable at first, but as it happened more often, it morphed into something pleasant that I began to cherish. The feeling was similar to the one I used to get whenever Saeyoung would sneak me outside as a kid, but that still wasn’t quite right. I was wrenched out of my thoughts by the door swinging open and Saeyoung’s loud greeting.
“I’m home! And guess what, I brought a surprise!” I rolled my eyes at his stupid over excitement, cynical about whatever was in the plastic bag he was holding. He trotted jollily over to the couch, diving in between me and MC, squishing me against the arm of the couch.
“Hey, watch it!” I spat, feeling animosity seep into me again, which made me more angry. I didn’t want to be spiteful to him, I wanted to love him again. It was why everything was so frustrating.
“Anyways, what have you got there?” MC asked, voice so sweet it almost made me sick. Grinning wildly, Saeyoung brought out a box of frozen treats. Ripping open the box, Saeyoung pulled three out, passing them around to us. I stared at it, memories seeming to dance in the dessert in my hand. The blue double popsicle would mean nothing to MC, but it meant everything to my brother and I.
“I was out getting gas, and while I was doing that, I got to thinking...I promised you that we would get to have another ice cream together, but it was something that I didn’t fulfil.”
There were a lot of promises you didn’t fulfil... I thought, knowing he was thinking the same thing. This was his way of making things right, one step at a time.
“So, naturally, I decided to pick some up on my way home!” He had a goofy grin plastered on his face, although there was something else there. Through twin telepathy, or whatever you want to call it, I could tell he was nervous about if I would accept his way of mending fences. I continued to stare at the sweet treat in my hand, ice crystals melting away from the smooth surface.
“You’re an idiot.” Despite the attitude, my grumble soon gave way to a chuckle as I bit into the dessert.
“Dear god, I got a laugh out of him! MC, it’s a miracle!” He looked as if he was genuinely about to tear up. I tuned him out as I let the taste wash over my tongue, memories bubbling up to the surface. The most prominent one was the pinky promise that we would escape our mother and be together forever. I suppose in some roundabout way, we did end up together, and we most likely will stay that way. “I’m so happy, you know that?” Saeyoung seemed to be addressing both of us, but I knew better. Now he was talking directly to MC, snaking his free arm around her waist and pulling her closer to him. My skin prickled as he did so, intensifying when he leaned in for a kiss. Getting caught up in the moment, he moved his hand to her hair, tangling it in her long brown strands while deepening the kiss. I turned away, biting deep into the frozen treat with my sensitive teeth when MC sighed in delight against him.
“Gross, guys. I’m right here...” My voice trembled, and I cursed the tightening sensation in my chest. If they heard me, they didn’t care. MC giggled as he blew raspberries onto her neck and collar bone, and instead of its usual musical quality, it sounded shrill to my ears. Suddenly, the half-eaten ice cream I was holding didn’t taste very good. I stood up as MC began to slip his jacket off, heading to my room in long, fluid strides. As I passed the kitchen, I dropped the unfinished treat unceremoniously into the trash can.
Jesus Christ, what’s wrong with me? I dragged my hands down my face as I flopped back onto my bed. The door was shut tightly, but choruses of laughter drifted in regardless. My breath caught in my throat as I was finally able to put a name to this feeling.
“Jealousy...” I mumbled aloud, trying the word on for size. I was jealous of my brother. I had never been interested in women, or men for that matter, so my harbored feelings for MC caught me off guard. Of course, the one girl I had ever wanted was unavailable. This envy was only pushing me further back in my efforts to forgive my brother.
She’s happy with him...you want her to be happy, don’t you?  For once, my inner voice was being rational and reasonable rather than self-deprecating.
“Tch…” It was painfully ironic how it all worked out. I brought her to the RFA, and she went and fell in love with my twin. I’m not a child, though. If she is truly happy, then fine. I’ll support them as much as my heart allows, because MC deserves it. I would give her the world if I could, and I know for a fact that Saeyoung would do the same. A bittersweet smile worked its way onto my face, and I felt myself relaxing against the mattress. She may be Saeyoung’s girl, but that doesn’t mean I still can’t dream about her. As far as I’m concerned, diving into a dreamland where she could be mine was a better alternative to painful and twisted nightmares. I would take the imaginary relationship any day.
Why do I have to love you this way?  Tracing circles onto my chest to comfort myself, I felt surprisingly contented.
“God, what I wouldn’t give for you to be Saeran’s girl...” I chuckled lowly, glad no one was there to hear my sappy mumbling. My breathing fell into a slow and easy rhythm as I began to doze off into a happy slumber, a world where anything was possible, including having the girl of my dreams.

The 25 Biggest TV Shows that Defined the 2010′s
Tumblr media
Described as the golden age of television, the 2010’s redefined what we saw on our silver screens. With many of its programmes being compared to the work of the film industry, television changed before our very eyes these past ten years. We said goodbye to our favourite politicians, fell in and out of love with an after school club that sang show tunes, and crowned the king of the seven kingdoms. The 2010’s has an abundance of programming for us to watch, so making this list was quite the difficult task. In order to be considered for this list, the majority of the show’s seasons would have had to be aired from January 1st, 2010 to December 31st, 2019. And, each show has been ranked based on its impact on television/its audiences, as well as the quality being taken into account (but not being considered quite as much as the former). So, before we move into another ten years of the ever-changing landscape of the small screen, let’s take a look at the best shows we watched.
HONORABLE MENTIONS (26 - 40)
26. Top Boy 27. How To Get Away With Murder 28. Keeping Up With The Kardashians 29. One Day At A Time 30. Rick and Morty 31. Jane the Virgin 32. New Girl 33. Broad City 34. Crazy Ex Girlfriend 35. Master of None 36. Bob’s Burgers 37. You 38. Insecure 39. Bojack Horseman 40. The Simpsons
Tumblr media
25) This Is Us, NBC (2016 - present)
Renewed until 2022, ‘This Is Us’ was the simultaneously heart wrenching and heartwarming drama that changed the game for television this decade. From its phenomenal cast performances to the well thought-out story arcs for each character, the family drama was one of the most significant programmes of the 2010’s. What made the Emmy award winning programme so special this decade was its ability to give each character a personality that felt real. We didn’t like these characters because they were interesting, we fell in love with them because they represented the realities of life. From Kate’s (Chrissy Metz) depiction of heavy insecurities from being overweight to Rebecca's (Mandy Moore) struggle of being a single mother, ‘This Is Us’ is a show about real people, non-fabricated.
Tumblr media
24) On My Block, Netflix (2018 - present)
A surprise hit for the streaming platform, ‘On My Block’ was the most-binged show on Netflix during its premiere year. For both seasons that the show has been released, ‘On My Block’ has been an internet sensation, having its audiences watching the show as quickly as possible to avoid spoilers. The youth drama captivated audiences with its relatability, comedy, and the fact that it doesn’t shy away from reality when it touches on gun violence and life for kids in rough neighborhoods.
The show definitely had its impact for the past two years, and it also deserves more. For a show with minimal advertisement to capture the hearts of so many worldwide - and to even best the streaming network’s veteran programming - is a feat that is worth celebrating. ‘On My Block’ is a show that celebrates the underdog in life. It puts young, poor people of colour at the forefront and allows them to tell their own stories - be it dramatic or comedic.
Tumblr media
23) Killing Eve, BBC America (2018 - present)
A show that really made a name for itself was the international hit ‘Killing Eve’. The drama starring Jodie Comer from ‘My Mad Fat Diary (2013 - 2015)’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy (2005 - present)’ star Sandra Oh took the world by storm with its intense and teasingly romantic performances. Oh and Comer became one of the greatest pairings this decade with their love-hate relationship in ‘Killing Eve’. The leads both equally balance each other out with their ability to be both comedic and dramatic whilst teasing both a romance and a constant desire to detonate the other, which is a quality not many can possess. The BBC programme succeeded in a crowded market of dramatic content by ensuring that it was impossible for one woman to have carried the show, as even though Comer has the task of portraying multiple personalities throughout each episode, Oh is just as striking with her nervous, intelligent and chaotic portrayal of the vulnerable and fervid Eve Polastri.
Tumblr media
22) Big Little Lies, HBO (2017 - present)
With an all-star cast like this, it would’ve been a real shame had this show disappointed. Luckily, there’s a reason these A-listers joined the show as ‘Big Little Lies’ had us on the edge of our seats each week. Dealing with the influx of made for bingeing TV programmes being released in one set, the cable show had a lot to fight against, as it required fans to stay on board each week whilst retaining the ins and outs of the crime drama. ‘Big Littles Lies’ succeeded in the attention-span battle as each episode was carefully curated so that we wouldn’t forget the important details. Moments were revisited whilst every scene changed the story somehow without adding too much that we got confused.
From the phenomenal cast to the striking writing and directing, the HBO drama is a defining show of the 2010’s as it was one of the few shows that made it almost impossible to log online without reading spoilers. Although it may not have the same hype as another fellow HBO programme, it still held its own and had us writing theories and listening to podcasts to keep us going until the next episode.
Tumblr media
21) Brooklyn Nine Nine, NBC (2013 - present)
After being cancelled by FOX in 2018, the show was resurrected by the Gods at NBC and given two extra seasons to last until 2020 (for now!). The irony in this show is that it didn’t make much noise until its cancellation, where the silent fanbase made their voices heard. Although the reaction of fans isn’t quite the reason it got renewed, this still proved to be a pinnacle moment for television in the 2010s. Many shows lose their network, but not many make as much a spectacle as ‘Brooklyn Nine Nine’ did, leading it to becoming one of the most talked about shows of 2018. And there’s a reason for that. The cop sitcom may have its problems, but what it does successfully is give us a reason to root for every character they have (including Hitchcock and Scully!). A constant trope in comedy television is that there tends to be a few characters that are outright awful - at least to the more than casual viewer. But with the now NBC comedy, each one is lovable and has gone on their individually engaging journey throughout the years. Rootable characters are the root to every TV show that touches its viewers’ hearts, and ‘Brooklyn Nine Nine’ does that with every single on-screen persona.
Tumblr media
20) American Crime Story, FX (2016 - present)
When it comes to biopics, television hardly gets noted as having some great renditions, but ‘American Crime Story’ is changing that. The debut season that detailed the OJ Simpson trial is probably one of the best seasons of modern television as it cleverly and accurately dictated the trial from the murder up until the verdict, giving viewers as close a look as possible to the reality of the crime. Sarah Paulson gave us a phenomenal performance as Marcia Clark whilst Cuba Gooding Jr. delivered OJ better than anybody imaginable.
The second season was also on par with its predecessor as ‘Glee (2009 - 2015)’ alum Darren Criss lead the show to another year of critical acclaim as Andrew Cunanan in ‘The Assasination of Gianni Versace’. Much like the first season, this one was an award show favourite, and on top of that, solidified Criss as a seasoned actor in the business.
Tumblr media
19) When They See Us, Netflix (2019)
Created by Ava DuVernay, the Netflix mini-series focusing on a significant part of the drastic life of The Exonerated Five’s lives. Each of the six episodes carefully detailed their story, ensuring each movement and word connoted the struggle faced by Kevin Richardson, Antron McCray, Yusef Salaam, Korey Wise and Raymond Santana. What lands this show on the list isn’t the critical praise or accolades, but the detail oriented work on display throughout the series. ‘When They See Us’ did what many shows have deterred from over the years, and that was telling a real story with no boundaries. What makes a biopic successful is when it encourages its audience to research the original story after watching it. And after being viewed by over 23 million people less than a month within its release, we saw conversations take place about the Exonerated Five. We went back to watch the original documentary, found out more about the evils of Linda Fairstein, and conversations about the initial arrests grew and grew. ‘When They See Us’ was a phenomenon that created relevant conversations and truly defined this decade.
Tumblr media
18) The Good Place, NBC (2016 - 2020)
In 2016, the creator of ‘Brooklyn Nine Nine (2013 - present)’ and ‘Parks and Recreation (2009 - 2015)’ took on a more challenging project as he created ‘The Good Place’; a comedy that tackles the meaning of life and how important we are to each other and the universe. The US comedy has become a staple in comedy as it challenged its conventions whilst keeping up the light-hearted nature we all anticipate. What made the show so special is that it gave us an abundance of extremely imperfect characters and relished in it. From the narcissism to their careless nature, it’s surprising that the season one finale plot twist even took us by surprise, but somehow it did, and that’s because beyond the fact that these people were mostly terrible, they were, above all else, lovable. Throughout the series we learned to love them for their bad sides, and saw that beyond what made them such horrific people, they were pretty decent. ‘The Good Place’ was a show that aimed to prove that humans are more than the good and bad things that they do, and although it has deteriorated in quality in the latter seasons, it still holds quite a large influence over this decade.
Tumblr media
17) Veep, HBO (2012 - 2019)
One of the saddest losses of the 2010’s, ‘Veep’ was the excellent kind of programming that this decade will forever be remembered for. Beginning with a slow start, the Julia-Louis Dreyfus lead show stole our hearts with its wit and relevant comedy. ‘Veep’ took on what the world was focusing on - politics and feminism - and put it at the forefront of a primetime TV show. And to ensure we were watching, we received a stellar cast and perfect writing each episode. The political comedy is something that can be rewatched again and again, and never get old, which is why it’s such a shame we won’t be seeing it anymore. But maybe sometimes it’s better to bow out early.
Tumblr media
16) Grey’s Anatomy, ABC (2005 - present)
If we’re going to discuss programmes with longevity, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ has to be on the list. The most successful programme from TV veteran Shonda Rhimes, the medical drama has been a powerful force in the industry. Launching the careers of the likes of Jesse Williams and Golden Globe winner Sandra Oh, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ can be credited for getting a generation of young adults/teens into television drama. Some of the biggest fans of TV today found their love for the medium through Rhimes’ programme and have remained loyal ever since. Although the show isn’t quite at its peak anymore, it’s still holding strong, and it’s hard to find a television fan that hasn’t been captivated by the drama in the Seattle-based programme. The show has placed this high on the list as it’s had an immense influence on today’s TV (fans) and its longevity is unmatched.
Tumblr media
15) Love Island, ITV2 (2015 - present)
Like many British reality shows, it took a year or two for ‘Love Island’ to finally make some noise, but when it did, it was most definitely heard. Making headlines in season two and becoming one of the most watched British shows just a year later, the romance-based reality competition forced viewers across the world to spend their summers with young singles searching for love and an Instagram following. On top of consisting of catty arguments, shocking twists and viral memes, ‘Love Island’ captured the hearts of reality TV fans worldwide for its relatable nature. Young people would tune in every summer to see people just like them search for love in a similar dating pool. On the surface we would be seen taking to Twitter to insist that certain women were being “mugged off” whilst her love interest was simply playing a game, but beyond that it became a starting point for conversations around misogyny, racism, sisterhood and mental gymnastics. From the beginning of the season, patterns would be noticed by audiences when the black contestants would typically be the last ones chosen - in the season five premiere, the final four singles left to be coupled up were all people of colour, three of which were black. The mistreatment of women like Samira Mighty and Yewande Biala would create discourse across the internet on misogynoir, and the constant talk of “tall, dark and handsome” would form interesting dialogue on what that really means. It may not seem like the most cleverly put together show, but everyday it made its worldwide viewers tune in as soon as they could to see the action as it poured out, so that we could interact with each other live. It’s rare for a reality show to be this well loved across the globe, as many competition programmes of the latter half of the decade were usually watched by the country it originally aired in, but the ITV2 show’s ability to create discourse and fanfare is what made it the powerful programme that it is (which was so big that even ‘Saturday Night Live (1975 - present)’ made a sketch about it). With the dating programme’s relatability, youth, easy-to-watch nature and its ability to create a conversation, it became a pinnacle of the 2010s that has had other networks attempting (and failing) to emulate it.
Tumblr media
14) The Big Bang Theory, CBS (2007 - 2019)
With its wit, humour and unique take on life as a modern nerd, ‘The Big Bang Theory’ became a frontrunner in the comedy genre for the entire 2010s. Bowing out gracefully in the final year of the decade, the nerd-oriented comedy took the decade by storm, being one of CBS’ most viewed shows for the majority of its stay on the network. What captivated audiences was the simplistic comedy that was stylized as though it was intelligent. The show made basic science-related jokes that those fresh out of Biology class would understand, and thus make the joke somewhat relatable. And that’s not to bash the show for not having funny jokes, because it did, it just had a certain audience to appeal to. ‘The Big Bang Theory’ was never going to be funny in the same way that ‘Barry (2018 - present)’ is. The Jim Parsons-lead sitcom earned its play high on this list as the show was a huge international success. Existing for the entirety of the decade and only leaving because the lead lost interest before the fans did, it’s clear that this was a very beloved television programme, and when it comes to comedy in the 2010s, this will always be brought up.
Tumblr media
13) Modern Family, ABC (2009 - 2020)
When it came to comedy in the 2010s, no true fan of the genre ended the decade without loving at least one episode of ‘Modern Family’. The family sitcom which has been followed by similar shows on the same network such as ‘Fresh Off The Boat’ and ‘Black-ish’, remained a dominant force in the genre for the former half of the 2010s. Tying the record for Most wins for Outstanding Comedy Series at the Emmys with ‘Frasier’ (5 wins) from 2010 - 2014, it was a clear critical success and a definite frontrunner throughout the years. But beyond what the critics have said, fans have taken a liking to the show as it offered simplicity with humour. ‘Modern Family’ took an average concept of a dysfunctional but loving family, and detailed how their simple yet outrageous scenarios were relatable to both the audience and each other. Every time we tuned into an episode of the American sitcom, we were given a half an hour of fun, light entertainment that kept us entertained for the entire decade. For those that were in their teens, we related to Haley Dunphy (Sarah Hyland), who was always confused about her path in life and wasn’t always doing the right thing. For those that were seen as the sensible member of the family, we related to Alex Dunphy (Ariel Winter) who, although she appeared to have everything together, she never really did, and relied on her relationship with her sibling in order to feel superior but to also be vulnerable. Gloria Delgado-Pritchett (Sofia Vergara) represented the underestimated yet striking individuals, Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen) portrayed those with the incessant need to impress their parents, Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell) was made for the hopeful parents always looking to do the right thing, whilst other kids could find themselves trying to findt their way in Luke Dunphy (Nolan Gould) or Manny Delgado (Rico Rodriguez). Everybody had their place in the family represented in ‘Modern Family’, so we found ourselves attached to see that play out every episode, with its charm, chaos and light-hearted nature. Also, Cameron Tucker (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) created a space for queer representation that both conformed and challenged the existing conventions, which especially for the beginning of the decade, was quite transformative.
Tumblr media
12) Atlanta, FX (2016 - present)
A critical darling from its very first episode, ‘Atlanta’ gave us some of the 2010s most iconic episodes. From the jarring 'Teddy Perkins' episode to the innovatively shot 'B.A.N.' from the first season, this show was daring from its origins. The aforementioned season one episode proved to audiences that ‘Atlanta’ wasn’t an ordinary programme; the experimental production plays out as a talk-show, with some fake commercials being played between the story. With episodes like ‘Teddy Perkins’, the Donald Glover created show delivered one of the most unsettling projects this decade. The original airing on FX even aired with no ad breaks in between, forcing viewers to feel as eerie as intended. ‘Atlanta’ earned its place as one of the most defining shows of the decade as it proved to be daring without failure. Each episode told a story, and with its blend between comedy and drama, it really was a pinnacle programme from this era of blurred genres.
Tumblr media
11) House of Cards, Netflix (2013 - 2018)
Netflix’s very first original TV show premiered back in 2013, and although a controversial programme today due to its male lead not knowing how consent works, we can’t deny the power that this show had throughout the years. Without the success of ‘House of Cards’ some of today’s biggest Netflix originals like 'Queer Eye', 'The Crown', 'Sex Education' and ‘Russian Doll’ may have ceased to exist. Due to the impact of the political drama, the streaming platform may not have had enough selling points to take on traditional broadcast television. ‘House of Cards’ may not be held to high regard anymore - with good reason - but it played its role in the golden age of television, and was one of the few significant shows that changed the way we watched television forever.
Tumblr media
10) Orange Is The New Black, Netflix (2013 - 2019)
‘Orange Is The New Black’ was one of the few shows that changed TV viewership. Being one of Netflix’s first original programmes, it allowed the market to open up to the idea of binge-watching a programme, and giving traditional cable television a run for its money. But beyond changing how we watched television, the Jenji Kohan production changed what was on television. Prior to its controversial and damaging season four finale, the first three seasons of the show gave fans a welcoming set of episodes featuring strong, real and vulnerable female characters in serious situations and relationships. This continued on until the last season, however since the incident in the fourth season occurred, it took the show until its final installment to truly recover from its quality. But that doesn’t deter from the fact that this show had its impact, and found its way into people’s homes in ways that others couldn’t quite capture. ‘Orange Is The New Black’ created heart-wrenching stories tackling immigration, sexuality, rape, racism and more each episode. What made the show oddly superior to most of its peers is that although the lead was probably the most boring character on the show, the ensemble were so full of life and character that it more than made up for it. With characters such as Nicky Nichols (Natasha Lyonne), Poussey Washington (Samira Wiley) and Taystee Jefferson (Danielle Brooks) grabbing fans’ hearts every time they appeared on screen, it made the prison-based dramady something special. We dealt with Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) and her annoying antics so that we could see if Nicky was ever going to find the love and peaceful life she deserved. We dealt with the lead of the show in hopes that her connection with Taystee would give her the justice she fought for throughout the entirety of the programme. ‘Orange Is The New Black’ was far from perfect, but it ushered in a generation of new and diverse programming that put women at the forefront. It got a lot wrong, but as its intention was to change the way we watched TV, it ensured we got what was missing.
Tumblr media
9) American Horror Story, FX (2011 - present)
Creator Ryan Murphy was known for some less serious projects prior to this, and although they were successful, this is the project that transcended him into one of the biggest stars of the 2010s. ‘American Horror Story’ premiered to rave reviews from fans and critics alike, and throughout the years placed itself in the meme Hall of Fame with moments like Emma Roberts’ “surprise, bitch”. The show was able to make an almost non-existent genre in TV thrive and survive for almost ten seasons. Fans flocked to this show because it didn’t rely on jump scares to consider itself “horror”. ‘American Horror Story’ created characters who, with visuals combined with their literally insane character work, gave the show the fear factor even blockbuster films of the same genre were missing. Murphy and co. created a cast of characters that although were only ever with us for a season or so, gave us a reason to come back each time. The cast itself are also a flawless set of performers, but it’s the writing from each episode that’s allowed the show to become a pinnacle of television in the 2010s. Also, Sarah Paulson.
Tumblr media
8) Rupaul’s Drag Race, VH1 (2009 - present)
Nothing redefined a whole genre of television quite like ‘Rupaul’s Drag Race’. Ushering in a unique and fresh feel to the reality TV competition genre, Rupaul and his clan of drag queens delivered 10 seasons of the show this decade, as well as the four ‘All Stars’ seasons, and the international spin-offs. The show made its mark on the world with the help of the internet, as the viral memes such as Jasmine Masters’ “and I oop!” and Coco Montrese screaming “I’m not joking, b*tch!” were shared millions of times across the world wide web. We also got to see the queens have their lip sync battles impress fans around the globe; from Alyssa Edwards and Tatianna’s “Shut Up And Drive” to Brooke Lynn Hytes vs Yvie Oddly’s “Sorry Not Sorry”, the queens had fans gagging each week.
Drag has been seen as a fairly underground art form for many years, and throughout most of this show’s reign, the idea that it would remain this way was pretty consistent with its fanbase. However, within the latter years of the 2010’s, the queens of the werk-room transcended their talent into global fame, and have allowed drag to become the mainstream work of art it always deserved to be. Each season a talented and fiery bunch of drag queens strut into the werk room to be crowned ‘America’s Next Drag Superstar’. And with its wit, unique storytelling and ability to become instantly viral, ‘Rupaul’s Drag Race’ easily became the best reality show of the 2010’s. The show became so popular that the previously underground medium has given queens success at the Primetime Emmys, and even launched one of its biggest stars - Shangela Laquifa Wadley - into the Oscar winning film ‘A Star Is Born’. The rise to the top was a tough one for the drag competition, as the masses were never clued into the idea of drag as a concept, let alone a show full of openly queer artists, yet through the years the show and its cast prevailed. What made the show so special was that queer audiences could not only see themselves and their stories portrayed on television, but they didn’t have to deal with tragic endings and disrespectful storylines in order to do so. Queer fans could enjoy the programme for its fun nature whilst still feeling represented. And although the racial diversity only picked up towards the later seasons, it is still one of the most diverse programmes on television. The programme isn’t perfect when it comes to diversity and inclusion as it still has to tackle its gender bias, treatment of the queens of colour themselves and the fact that the scene behind the camera is still very much mostly white. But, that’s not to say that it hasn’t made some progress.
Tumblr media
7) Black Mirror, Netflix (2011 - present)
It was pretty hard to be a TV fan this decade without hearing of this show, let alone surrendering and watching at least one episode. The science fiction anthology series cleverly took on a varied set of themes and challenged its viewers to question their everyday thoughts and actions. From having a Prime Minister have sex with a pig, to Miley Cyrus’s dramatic portrayal of Ashley O and the iconic San Junipero episode, it’s difficult to not navigate this episode without being entertained by this show one way or another. Although the Netflix programme doesn’t have to focus on long-term storytelling, it does have to convince us to care enough for new characters and stories each episode. The anthology series has allowed many kinds of tales to be told, and has managed to build a dedicated audience each time it returns. From its excellent accolades to its incredible critique, ‘Black Mirror’ is a programme unlike any other, and is by far one of the greatest programmes to come out of the 2010s.
Tumblr media
6) Glee, FOX (2009 - 2015)
Although criticized for its inconsistent writing and eventual fan service, ‘Glee’ was a show unlike any other, and remains impactful to this day. The FOX musical dramady did something beyond being a decent show, it paved the way for LGBT+ representation for years following it. If there’s one thing the 2010s should be remembered for, it’s the amount of openly queer characters on our screens (be it good or bad). When ‘Glee’ had one of its leads, Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer), come out in 2009 episode ‘Preggers’, an iconic moment of television immediately arose. Hummel may have made some questionable decisions since then, but the rest of the show followed suit with giving queer people somebody to see themselves in. Santana Lopez (Naya Rivera) had one of the greatest coming out scenes in 2011, Coach Beiste (Dot-Marie Jones) dealt with being in an abusive relationship in 2012, Wade “Unique” Adams’ (Alex Newell) gender issues were explored in 2015, and Brittany Pierce (Heather Morris) was given positive bisexual representation throughout the series. Although nobody’s story was ever perfect, the show opened the doors for more LGBT+ representation following it. Since its premiere, we’ve seen more (and somewhat better) queer representation in ‘One Day At A Time’, ‘Sense8’, 'The Bold Type', and creator Ryan Murphy's other programmes 'The New Normal' and 'Pose'. ‘Glee’ came at a time when queer youth needed representation more than ever, and it may not have been the best, but it was there, and it taught a generation of teens a whole lot about themselves, and for that, it ranks pretty high on this decade-end list. They also happen to have the most Hot 100 Entries of all time (soon to be topped by Drake, who is only one song behind), and received 18 Primetime Emmy nominations during the peak of the show in 2011, so some may have said it did quite well.
Tumblr media
5) Parks and Recreation, NBC (2009 - 2015)
Beginning right at the end of the last decade and ending in the middle of this one, ‘Parks and Recreation’ definitely had a good shot at making an impact throughout the 2010s. And it managed to do exactly that. On top of being one of the few shows to have a worthy series finale, ‘Parks and Recreation’ was a programme that warmed our hearts every single episode and reminded us of a better life in an unfortunate political climate. Leslie Knope was a beacon of light in a dark world, ensuring that despite living what can be described as a simple life, she created something extraordinary. The Michael Schur original ranks so high as it has been a part of one of the most enjoyable kinds of comedies - the mockumentary - and did it extremely well. We’ve seen many shows make their mark amongst this genre, but ‘Parks and Recreation’ was able to do so without the help of a big Primetime Emmy push, and created a devoted fanbase. With the timeless memes and the rewatchable episodes, the citizens of Pawnee gave us some of the most enjoyable moments of the 2010s that will carry us into the 2020s just as well.
Tumblr media
4) Fleabag, BBC One (2016 - 2019)
What appeared to be the quiet assassin of 2019 turned out to be one of the biggest shows of the 2010s. Phoebe Waller-Bridge released her one-woman show in 2013 in England and was soon picked up by BBC Three. Whilst the first season had its fair share of attention, it wasn’t until it returned for a second season in 2019 when Waller-Bridge truly left her mark. Viewers across the globe fell in love with the dark yet witty comedy as the show wasn’t afraid to show what figuring it all out was really about. It was dark, it was morally unhinged, it was funny, it was crass, it was flawed, it was simply real. Waller-Bridge captured complicated women in every episode, whilst remaining real and funny. This show - much like the very underrated ‘Chewing Gum’ - gave an honest, humorous voice to regular women just trying to figure life out as oddly and uncomfortable as possible.
Tumblr media
3) Pose, FX (2018 - present)
The most vital LGBT+ inclusive show of the latter years of the decade, FX’s ‘Pose’ gave a platform to trans performers of colour with innovative and provocative storytelling. Although the show only arrived in late 2018, it’s earned a place on the list as it has helped push under-represented communities in the world of TV. With the likes of Billy Porter leading this show, the FX programme already had some celebrity prominence to keep it afloat, but beyond that it created stars out of its ensemble. The show has tackled the aids epidemic, life as a black queer person (most notably trans) and the origins of a lot of today’s queer culture. ‘Pose’ has set the tone for the next decade, and not only has become an important aspect of queer culture, but the television industry. As described by star Dominique Jackson in an interview with E!, "these things happened. You can't just sit in the comfort of your suburb and not realise that homelessness has occurred. Most of us who have lived in that time where the fear of contracting HIV and aids, the fear of wanting to work, the fear of walking the streets and not knowing if you're gonna get to your destination because someone is gonna kill you because of their thoughts about what you do in your bedroom, or how you express yourself. These things need to be seen. This is what 'Pose' does. It shows you everything about the juxtaposition between the rise of the Trump era, the literary scene, and the ballroom culture."
Tumblr media
2) Stranger Things, Netflix (2016 - 2020)
One of Netflix’s biggest successes since its streaming origins in 2007, ‘Stranger Things’ was a quick fan favourite as soon as it debuted. Initially pitched as a mini-series, the 80’s-based programme became a word-of-mouth success so big that Netflix had no other option but to renew it again, and again, and again (in which 2020 will see its final chapter). What makes the success of this show so fascinating is that it was able to take a mostly child-oriented cast and create a project that attracted the masses beyond that age group. It would’ve been easy for ‘Stranger Things’ to become a Tumblr sensation for a year or two, being forgotten by most subscribers and its existence being remembered only by the GIF sets on inactive blogs, but it was much more than that. The Duffer Brothers allowed the show to reach into the hearts of multiple age groups by tugging on the heartstrings of loving parents with children, kids and teens longing for an adventurous life, and those with a reminiscent/romanticized vision of childhood in the 80’s. ‘Stranger Things’ became more than what was on the tin, and ensured that every viewer was giving a suspenseful and emotional first eight episodes that were so addictive many of forgave the show for its dismal sophomore year.

1) Game of Thrones, HBO (2011 - 2019)
Not only was this Emmy award winning series here for practically the entire decade, but it maintained its prominence for every single one of the years - even during its hiatus in 2018. Whether you loved the show or not, and no matter what your feelings regarding its final season are, there’s no denying that when it comes to the 2010s, ‘Game of Thrones’ will be the one show we will all reminisce on - for better or for worse. With the influx of streaming and on-demand services taking over, this HBO original will probably go down as the last show that we watch together. The programme was so popular that it practically forced its worldwide viewers to watch it beyond 1am on a Sunday night just to avoid seeing spoilers and to be able to talk about it freely the next morning. Even those that didn’t enjoy the show found it difficult to avoid spoilers, and for that, this show is definitely the show of the 2010s.

Trip of a Lifetime (mgk!Tommy Lee x Reader)
Requested: Anon!
“Could you do a story about tommy and the reader dropping acid and whatever they do on it is up to u😂 I think it'd be really cute and funny”
Note: I am sorry this is so late! I may have gotten a little carried away, but I wanted to make sure I did this prompt justice. It’s definitely been a hot minute since I’ve done psychedelics, but some of these events are inspired by true ones so let me know what you think. Enjoy!
word count: 2,294
It all started on a Saturday night. With you and your boyfriend Tommy having such busy schedules, the both of you had decided to take turns planning date nights. The way you figured it, taking turns would prevent one of you from feeling more responsible for maintaining the relationship over the other. So far it seemed to be working out nicely, and this time it was Tommy’s turn.
You and Tommy had been together for a few months now, and were still well into your phase of continually trying to impress one another. At this point, Mötley Crüe was really taking off, and you found yourself looking forward to your scheduled dates more and more as Tommy became increasingly less available. Deep down, you knew it wasn’t his fault that he was so preoccupied. There was no doubt in your mind that he and his romantic heart would be willing to move mountains for you; but that didn’t mean being apart never stressed you out. Sometimes you even wished you could slow down time just a little so that you wouldn’t always have to say goodbye to Tommy so soon. When you had told Tommy that, he just laughed and told you he would make it happen if he could. As always, you believed him.
As you waited for Tommy to return home from his day at the studio, you couldn’t help but fidget in anticipation. When it was Tommy’s turn to plan dates, he always liked them to be a surprise for you. His spontaneous nature and childlike enthusiasm were just a few of his qualities you loved the most, and the dates he picked were a reflection of that. In just a few short months, Tommy had already taken you to more arcades, theme parks, concerts, and spontaneous road trips than you could keep track of. So as anxious as you were to see your boyfriend’s smiling face, you were just as excited to find out what he had in store for you.
When Tommy finally opened the door, you practically leapt into his open arms. In true Tommy fashion, he picked you up off the ground and spun you in a circle, eliciting a a chorus of giggles from the both of you.
“Well hey there, baby,” he cooed, kissing you gently, “someone sure is happy to see me.”
You nuzzled his nose lovingly as he placed you back on the ground. “I just missed you is all.” Even though Tommy had put you down, you still felt like you were hovering above the earth, your heart light and carefree.
“So what’s the plan for the night, rockstar?” You knew rockstar was a cheesy nickname, but the blush that would color Tommy's face made it all worth it. More than anything in the universe, Tommy wanted to play music that the rest of the world loved, and you always knew in your heart that he would do it.
“I thought maybe we could go on a little trip,” he smiled wryly, his eyes meeting yours with a mischievousness he normally reserved for inside jokes.
“Where?” Your arms were still firmly fastened around Tommy’s neck, keeping the space between the two of you to a minimum.
To your chagrin, Tommy unwrapped his hands from your waist, and reached for the pocket of his leather jacket. “Not that kind of trip, dude,” he said, pulling out a plastic bag, “this kind of trip.”
You looked at the plastic bag, your face lighting up as you spotted two little squares of paper with skulls printed on them.
 Acid.
You couldn’t believe it. It had been so long since you’d tripped that you almost didn’t remember what it was like. Still you craved an escape, something to take you and Tommy far away without ever having to leave the home you shared. It was perfect.
“You told me once that you wanted to slow down time,” Tommy continued, “so I thought we might give it a shot.”
“Oh my god, Tommy!” you squealed, delighted that he had been paying such close attention to how you’d been feeling lately. “I never thought I’d say this, but you might be a genius.” You stood on your tiptoes, gripping the sides of his angular face to kiss plant a kiss on his lips.
Tommy tried to look offended, but his act quickly dissolved under the smile on his face. “God, do you always have to be so mean?”
“Isn’t that why you love me?” you ask, batting your eyelashes in mock innocence.
Tommy just ruffled your hair in response, causing you to groan in protest. “Do you wanna take these for a spin, or what?” he asked, laughing at your irritated pout.
“Fine,” you huffed, “hit me.” You stuck out your tongue, signalling Tommy that you were ready to get the night going. This is it, you though, quickly accepting the fact that the two of you would ultimately be housebound for the evening.
Tommy reached into the plastic bag and pulled out a single tab. With a careful hand, he placed it on the tip of your tongue. Closing your mouth, you let it slowly dissolve. You’re not sure what you expected this time around, but it tasted like nothing just as you remembered. Soon after, Tommy did the same and all that was left was to wait for those little squares of paper to work their magic.
“Wanna watch a movie? Maybe order a pizza?”
You smiled up at Tommy, reveling in the fact that so many wonderful things in life could be so simple. “I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
It took some bickering, but eventually you and Tommy agreed to put your copy of Halloween in the old VCR. You had been worried that watching a scary movie would trigger a bad trip, but Tommy reassured you that his hilarious commentary would get you through it. You relented, but solely on the condition that he would hold you the entire time.
About thirty minutes into the movie, you noticed the image on the television began to vibrate softly, the colors pulsating and running together as if they might drip right out of the screen and onto the bedroom floor. You turned your head to look at Tommy to see if he was seeing the same thing, twisting against the hold he had on your body. To your amazement, he wasn’t looking at the screen at all. Instead his eyes were fixed on you.
You watched carefully as his the blue of his eyes seemed to shift colors, ranging from their usual denim blue to bleeding with vibrant yellows and greens. Even though Tommy’s eyes were locked on yours, it seemed as though he was looking somewhere beyond where you were sitting.
“Dude,” Tommy whispered, his voice soft and distant, “you’re so beautiful.”
“No, you,” you argue, the blood in your veins humming with the same softness that crept in and out of the edge of your vision when you looked at Tommy. It was almost as if your body was vibrating softly under his touch, making the rest of the world feel warmer and brighter. In that moment, it was so amazing to you that Tommy could call you beautiful when he was clearly the most mesmerizing thing in the room. It was then you thought that maybe, just maybe you could love him forever.
Tommy just rolled his eyes, “Oh please, you’re, like, a work of art,” he stated, moving his hands about animatedly, “just like that–wait what’s she called? The Moaning Liza?”
“You mean the Mona Lisa?” you asked, throwing your head back with laughter.
Playfully, Tommy tried to put one of his large hands over your face to shut you up, but you were able to wrestle out from his grip with happy tears leaking out of your eyes.
“Oh come on, Y/N! You know I didn’t do well in history.” At this point, Tommy was laughing too. “My point was that you don’t just look like any old work of art– but a priceless one. One that people cross oceans to see.”
You gazed at your boyfriend lovingly, and firmly believed that the secret to eternal happiness was hiding somewhere behind those beautiful, kaleidoscope eyes. The hum in your body was growing more persistent by the second, and suddenly your head was flooded with a hundred different ideas all at once. However, one stuck out to you over the others and you couldn’t help but wonder if Tommy would be on board with it.
Getting up abruptly, you made your way over to your bedroom, seeking out an old box of acrylic paints. The paints were leftover from your attempt at being an artist a couple of years ago, and you figured there was no better time to give it a try again than the present.
You found the box almost immediately as the yellow light from your closet rained down in glowing droplets above your head. The dripping light seemed to lead you right to where the box was nestled, and for a moment you wondered why you thought it’d be so hard to find it in the first place.
Strutting back into the living room triumphantly, you held the box of paints securely in your arms. To your amusement, Tommy’s gaze was now transfixed on the ceiling fan above his head, his eyes following the blades closely as they spun.
“Tommy!” you tapped at his shoulder and immediately he snapped back to reality. “I have an idea.”
“What is it?” he still had his signature, goofy smile but his eyes were unblinking. You wanted to laugh, but suddenly couldn’t remember the last time you’d blinked either. Realizing it didn’t matter, you set the box of paints in his lap.
“We shout paint each other! Well, not actually like paint each other, but paint on each other. Sounds fun, right?”
“Okay, but if we do I’m going first,” Tommy’s happy expression was replaced with a more determined one, “‘cause if you don’t believe you’re a work of art I’m just going to have to make you believe me.”
Unable to resist, you gave Tommy a peck on the cheek. “Alright, baby. Whatever you say goes.”
“Where should I start?” Tommy asked, rummaging through the selection of colors. “Your back maybe? I feel like there’s probably more room.”
You just shrugged and pulled your shirt up and over your head, allowing it to fall limp on the arm of the couch. Grabbing one of the extra cushions, you placed it on the carpeted floor so you could lay comfortably while Tommy set to work.
“So, what are you going to paint, Mr. Lee?” you asked, laying flat on your stomach. The carpet itched at your bare skin, the fibres swaying back and forth against the pressure of your body.
Tommy sat beside you with his legs crossed, the box of paints accompanying him at his spot on the floor. “Hmmm, can’t tell ya. It’s a secret.”
“Fine then,” you smile, “have it your way.”
Without warning, Tommy squirted a few drops of paint straight from the tube and onto your bare back. “Fuck, that’s cold!” you hiss, squirming uncomfortably against the rough carpet.
“It’ll be worth it, dude. Promise.” Tommy chuckled softly, adding more drops of paint from various bottles to the canvas of your body.
After a while, you were surprised to find that the cold from the paint was soothing the buzz of your body high quite a bit. The ebb and flow of Tommy working the paint into patterns on your back sent tingles of electricity from the top of your head to the tip of your toes.
Tommy didn’t talk much while he painted, apparently putting all of his concentration into whatever he was creating. Even though you couldn’t see his face while laying down, you’d be willing to bet he looked just as deep in focus painting as he did while writing a song. You couldn’t help but hum happily, feeling more than content just being alone with Tommy.
Evidently, Tommy had noticed your level of relaxation and laughed quietly to himself.
“What’s funny?” you ask, wanting so desperately to know what was going on in Tommy’s head during his trip.
“Nothing,” the smile in Tommy’s voice was obvious, even if you couldn't see it, “it’s just– do you ever think about how crazy this all is?”
 “How crazy what is?”
“This.” he insisted, “the fact that, of all the people in the world, and of all the time that’s passed...we got to meet. Just you and me, and the rest of the world.”
Your mouth fell open in awe, unable to believe the love and passion that radiated from Tommy’s words.
Just you and me, and the rest of the world.
Tommy’s profound observation flashed bright red in your mind, glittering against the backs of your eyelids like the Las Vegas strip at nighttime.
“I think I’m going to say it,” Tommy continued, unphased by your moment of silence, “You’re the love of my life. No matter if it’s this life, or the next one–or maybe even the one after that. If there is one, I think it’s always going to be you.”
The tenderness in Tommy’s voice hung in the air with all the softness of a passing cloud. Even though you knew that the both of you were tripping, no amount of chemicals could alter the way you felt about Tommy in that moment.
“You’re the love of my life, too” you repeat back, meaning every single word of it, “I don’t ever want to be anywhere if it’s not with you. Loving you is the trip of a lifetime.”

monochromology
As I write this it is the last day in November, and I have to renew my TV license. You have to have a TV license if you live in the United Kingdom and you own a device for watching live broadcasts, either online or through an actual TV. The fee is mostly used to pay for the existence of the BBC, and it costs £154.50 per year. It is effectively a regressive hypothecated tax.
Sometimes it seems like there must be a better way of paying for public-service broadcasting. But the BBC has to remain free and universal to access, and free from advertising. And most of the time, the license fee is not controversial. There is little in the way of serious political will to abolish it, in part because it feels like nobody can be trusted to think of a serious alternative. In this respect it is not dissimilar to council tax, which is even more egregiously regressive, more conducive to extremes in inequality, more dangerous to reform.
Various exemptions and concessions for the TV license are available. At the moment those aged over 75 don't have to pay at all. (This may change soon.) Oddly, if you have a black and white TV, there is still the option of paying a reduced rate license fee of £52 per year. The logic for this is essentially indefensible; aside from the fact that it is impossible to buy a new monochrome television, it would be absurd to suggest that anyone owning one was only receiving a third of the value of a full subscription.
There are two ideas which might be mustered in defense of the black and white TV license. (I call them ideas rather than arguments, since again, nobody is really arguing about this.) The first is half-economic, half-emotional. It says that the only people still owning these ancient sets are those almost incapacitated by age and poverty. They have few pleasures left in life; they cannot be expected to arrive one year at a bill almost three times the usual amount.
The second idea is linked to the first. It is wholly emotional, and far more important. In the British imagination the idea of a black and white television represents a link to the past. It is families clustered around a single glowing screen in a darkened room. Someone is probably smoking and someone is definitely drinking. There is a child lying inches from the screen, propped up on their elbows, head in their palms. The food is dreadful, in a homely sort of way. But something momentous is probably about to happen.
The second idea comes out of a feeling that began near the end of the Second World War and went on to aggregate over fifty years or more of the second half of the twentieth century. There is something in the notion of a black and white receiver that is emblematic of the BBC as a beloved institution. It says: we've been here with you for all those years, for your parents and for your grandparents; won't you stick with us a little longer, at least?
Sometimes the BBC is referred to as 'Auntie' in other parts of the media. It is a very old nickname. It is gentle and knowing. It is authoritative, and vaguely authoritarian – but at least it isn't 'Uncle'. The idea that the BBC might be a 'state broadcaster' (the special name it uses for equivalent stations in Iran or Russia) seems superficially absurd. Why? Because BBC content doesn't look like what we were taught propaganda looks like.
More often than not, the BBC will contort itself to maintain some notion of journalistic impartiality. But these contortions create more problems than they solve. It is possibly to be openly racist or homophobic or transphobic on BBC television or radio, as long as prejudice is couched behind suitable disclaimers and a veneer of civility. As long as these views can find a counterpoint elsewhere, our national broadcaster can claim it was only doing its duty in representing the views of a section of the populace who pays for its continued existence.
We are less than two weeks away from a general election. It seems like every day the BBC is accused of bias, from all sides. But at times the nature of the bias seems less like a considered editorial stance, and more like the product of something inherent to the way the BBC thinks about itself. And so a piece of footage which showed an audience openly laughing at the Prime Minister is cut to remove the laughter. On Memorial Sunday, the BBC runs a clip of the PM from a previous year, in which he managed to both look presentable and place the wreath the correct way around (neither of which he did this year). The BBC Politics twitter feed runs a handful of tweets critical of Jeremy Corbyn in between a jolly thirty-second clip of the PM spreading cream and jam on a scone.
It is hard to distinguish a conspiracy in all this. What is evident is a consistent attitude of deference to power. The BBC house style is expressed through a voice in love with its own history, its own authority. These clips are chosen because they make the men in power (and some women) look good. They are picked for the same reasons they would not show the PM picking his nose. It is an unsubtle way of establishing the BBC as a broadcaster of quality. The people who produce this work want to align themselves with power.
There is a sort of inverse courtship happening here. Once it was thought that politicians ought to defer to the media, out of a sort of necessity. You had to play their game if you wanted to be taken seriously. But suddenly none of that seems to matter. Now our Prime Minister can say, during an election campaign – what if I didn't show up to the leader's debate? What if I chose not to do the half-hour interview with the BBC's most aggressive presenter? What if I openly lied at every opportunity?
All of this is facilitated by a media which is essentially reverential. Individuals vary in their approach but this is the default state of most newspapers and most television programmes. The position of the government must be respected not because it is always wise or informed, or moral or ethical but because it belongs to the government. Other political positions may be taken into consideration but they lack the democratic legitimacy which (we are to assume) is the privilege of government. And so members of the Cabinet are treated with a level of reverence which is entirely unrelated to their actual capabilities or the results achieved by their departments.
The BBC has no idea how to handle the current Prime Minister. The journalist Peter Oborne caused something of a stir recently by quoting a senior BBC figure who told him that they were reluctant to openly accuse the PM of lying because it would undermine trust in politics. And so the corporation must twist itself into strange knots. Its presenters must nod and smile, and report faithfully the inane ramblings of a man who is utterly devoid of principles, because he happens to be the Prime Minister.
Is he lying? Certainly most of what he says is demonstrably untrue. But to accuse him of lying would be to doubt his motivation. This is another sin of which the BBC cannot bear to be accused. Perhaps he simply didn't know that he wrong? Perhaps he was ignorant? So it must suffice to report the lie, and then to tell the audience that there may be some debate about the nature of the facts. And so we are treated to headlines that accuse the Labour party of increasing spending by over a trillion pounds. This is a total fabrication. But even if this is accompanied by a disclaimer to say that Labour dispute these figures, which part of this will stick in the mind of the general reader? Perhaps there will be a talking head to explain that even if we were told we would be getting 40 new hospitals, some of those might only be refurbishments to existing hospitals. And the rest? We don't know. We move swiftly on to other things.
In matters relating to the Royal Family, the BBC will always cleave closely to its special heritage. Its coverage is resolutely uncritical. Turn on during a royal wedding or some other state occasion and the tone is set to gaping admiration throughout. The recent interview with Prince Andrew could be considered an exception, but it wasn't astonishing because of a particularly penetrating line of questioning. The questions were direct, but the Prince still got to sit in the big chair, relatively speaking. What happened was so surprising because Andrew so effectively engineered his own public humiliation. It took only the gentlest of informed prompts for him to express some of the most extraordinary things heard on television in recent memory.
I keep thinking back to the vast room in which Emily Maitlis and Prince Andrew sat for that interview. It did him no good, of course. It was lit like a room from Dracula's castle. I wondered who had allowed it. But there is at times a sort of mutual deference that we receive from the Royals. I mean in terms of the way that the Queen might be said to enjoy a particular brand of biscuit, for example; it's like a particularly British form of the idea that Madonna drinks Coke and you can too. It's 'democratic' in the (entirely incorrect and inappropriate) sense of the word commonly used interchangeably with 'popular'. At heart we know the Royals are nothing like us. Somehow we live with this.
Black and white televisions were once a status symbol of a sort. Another British stereotype says that in the 1980s/1990s if you still had a monochrome set you were probably not poor – you were probably a sort of aesthete or aristocrat, and mostly likely you had neither the time or the inclination to replace it. Or you might be very rich (because you hadn't frittered away money on buying a new TV). Big colour screens were considered the preserve of the idle feckless poor; by contrast, there was something pleasingly authentic about the black and white set.
And why should those owners be made to pay if they chose not to enter the modern world with the rest of us? We might not want it ourselves, but it was nice to think of them as being there, the owners of the black and white sets. They were keepers of the flame. Most likely they were shut up in their damp, draughty stately homes, with only a skeleton crew of servants, the old Bentley slumbering under a tarp in a crumbling garage. But they were holding on to our myths for us.
I paid the full amount for my TV license. The website for it is a primitive thing, but I suppose it's functional; it doesn't seem to have changed at all in over ten years. What would it mean if the black and white television license were taken away? I think of that lonely aristocrat, last of their line, selling their heritage to pay off some frivolous debt owed to the grasping hand of the state. (Countless versions of this trope, serious and comic, are available across a variety of media.) Would it feel like we were taking the Queen's TV away? Probably. Perhaps the BBC think it is worth keeping for that reason alone.

How Anime Characters are Made?
I think it is usually important and fascinating to find out the fundamental factors with the environment that we most fancy, and one associated with the most critical concerns is: how is anime made? For me, especially recently, this is a burning up question and I ended up doing some detailed homework. For the sake connected with other anime fans with the same question, My spouse and i thought about sharing the results. So if anyone want the bullets to be able to fire again the up coming time you get trapped upward in a conversation concerning the merits of cartoons, or you want a new way to watch anime, I hope this article is helpful to you. In this last year possibly even, my own growing interest in this side of points seriously opened my eyes to be able to the natural talent, art work, appreciation, and splendor found in Japanese animation. This content will focus on anime-TV development, but the same basic course of action is applicable to motion pictures together with OVA. That stated, there can be many variations among studios plus individual productions.
Tumblr media
https://www1.kissanime.li/Ani/Bleach/ The approach of building an anime is difficult, with many steps and periods. That graphic from the AIC English web site is the good image image involving what My spouse and i will explore: The cartoons manufacturing course of action. Preproduction: This process is determined by that promotes an concept together with who supports that, they are often animation studios, together with vendors, although numerous animes can be manga modifications or gentle novels, around which case upfront building costs (including costs). displayed on television stations). This production company (eg Aniplex) gathers employees, sponsors, and looks at advertisements in addition to merchandise. While a lot of persons describe the studios since cheap, only about half of the budget is often the cartoons studio, the relaxation is given to by presents and other contributing firms. Streaming costs will be surprisingly high, according to the cat blogger of approximately 60 million yen regarding an night time schedule throughout 5-7 posts for a good 52-episode set. You may see why anime is definitely an expensive business. For case in point, Total Metal Alchemist, which had the space upon Saturday from 6: 00 p. meters., had the total budget regarding 5 hundred million yen (before extra costs). When the central staff is arranged, they will meet and plan their particular anime, work on sequence structure (how the cartoons will play in each instance and throughout the series), and select much larger personnel, such as character or perhaps mecha designers.. One of the most critical workers is the director. To help understand the role involving film fans, you can consider of them since the administrators of a movie, yet instead of dealing having the stars, they package with the animators who make the characters within the movie. Their participation is usually attending appointments and building decisions to manage often the anime's schedule, budget, and level of quality. After the primary panoramic classes, models happen to be created (character, pieza, outfits, etc. ). Versions happen to be obviously a great important factor inside developing a good cartoons. Character designers are tasked with simplifying manga or example of this designs to turn out to be ideal for animation or, with regards to a good original anime, in order to make a innovative character arranged based on director / maker types. https://www1.kissanime.li/Anime/Death-Note/ Character developers frequently proceed to suggest animation company directors on movement fixes, which in turn must be made for you to stay near their personality models (in which event they are typically credited as animation representative with regard to the series). Once the tale and drawings will be attracted, the first show is managed. production: Often the first step is in order to write down thier script for the episode. Following a synopsis hcg diet plan plans for that episodes, the particular entire sets are usually published, possibly by anyone intended for the entire series, or perhaps simply by several different internet writers based on the facial lines of the script's standard boss (staff credit: structure from the Serie). The scenarios will be analyzed simply by typically the overseer, the suppliers, in addition to possibly because of the author regarding the original function ahead of it is completed (after 3 as well as 4 paintings, often). The episode representative, supervised by way of the CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, takes this backbone of the tv show and has in order to plan precisely how it will certainly truly look on tv screen. Even though the representative offers the last word plus participates in production group meetings, the episode director has the most involvement inside the development of often the show. kiss anime This stage can be expressed as a storyboard (a visual scenario), in addition to the storyboard marks often the beginning of actual toon manufacturing. to draw:
Tumblr media
Usually the script is created by way of this director, which signifies that an tv show is really that director's eye-sight. But generally, especially around the television cartoons, separate storyboarders are used to attract them. This is definitely because the pieces of software normally take around several weeks to make a normal length television anime event. Artwork meetings and development gatherings are held using the episode director, series director, as well as others about this specific episode. The cases happen to be drawn on A-4 papers (in general) and even contain most of the critical pads of an anime: lower numbers, acting professional moves, camera movements, such since zoom or perhaps pan, discussion (taken from stage) together with the period of each one picture (or cut). ) throughout terms of seconds and even support frames (which we may make clear later). Because typically the number of drawings available for an episode is frequently determined for the cause associated with budget management, this number of casings is also carefully considered within the storyboard. The circumstances are definitely more or less drawn and are also genuinely the key for you to determining how an cartoons may play. The clippings send to the single photo via the camera, and a average television cartoons instance will generally include all around 300 discounts. More slashes don't necessarily mean a new better good quality event, but will generally suggest more work for the home / writer. Cases connected with storyboards from To Aru Kagaku no Railgun. Cartoons stories have 5 columns. From left to best suited: the cut number, the looks, the action, the dialog, and last but not least the runtime (in time and frames). Types are drawn nearly because they are managed by other designers in the next production step. aspects: Much less well known is often the set up process, which scars very early artsy production. Around simple terms, model growth refers to the setting on the cylinders to get used in the lower and the background technique that is required, offering typically the certain model of precisely what the final photograph will look like. Discounts happen to be made the identical size like the movement report plus include mobile phone location information, accurate information of video camera movement, and other options. Within cooperation with the director and maybe the producers, the lead computer animators draw models (or often employees are credited especially with type drawings), and the pictures are named where this heroes / characters is going to be found and how a cut can adhere to... to be framed. The basic structure of the background skill (for instance, a shrub here, the hill there) is drawn, plus the factors in the storyboard are indicated inside the design to assist describe the cut. Often many stages of the particular script could be expressed around a single drawing, provided that it's not too confusing. The pv cells are shaded around warm colors, the backdrops are usually dark in cool shades. Once approved by means of the home, these design templates are copied and converted in to the qualifications department (receiving originals) in addition to key animators. The artwork director and assistants work on painting the background is effective good model's rough sketches, while the rest of the particular production process continues in the same time. Presently the shape of each and every cut is decided: the opportunities of the characters, typically the setup, what they may do and how this photograph will be caught (camera angle, zoom and even panorama). Nevertheless one involving the most expressive together with vital parts of the production continues to be: animation.

Best 32 Inch TVs for Gaming 2019
Tumblr media
Gaming is an industry that has really taken hold of the world's mainstream culture. Popular games give hours of entertainment and interaction to individuals through online gaming with other players around the world. If you are a gamer then you know that the screen is very important. Many gamers like to take it to the next level and they buy a big screen TV to enjoy their screen time. This is where the confusion starts because buying a television to watch movies and shows is a little different from buying a television that will be used for gaming purposes. For example, a 32 "television with smart features and a thousand applications, like Netflix, etc, is not necessary for you.  You want a TV with a good sound system and a clear display.
What to look in a 32-Inch Gaming TV
When you are looking for the best gaming televisions, pricing comes into play. You don't want all your money to sink into your TV and you don't have any money left over for headsets, extra controllers, and your favorite games. That's why looking at your different options is very important. The clarity and quality of the picture are major concerns for most gamers. If the colors are not very good, an important part of the gaming experience is missing. Built-in WiFi is always the preferred way to connect to the internet, but it is important to ensure that the default Ethernet port is used when there is a lack of WiFi service. It's a reasonable speed, but it can leave you with a little lag in action and commands. Finding a TV with a refresh rate of 120Hz in the 32-inch size is a rare thing in the current market. The refresh rate of 120Hz allows you to experience smooth movement with any game and gaming system you choose to enjoy. Here is a list with best 32-inch TVs for gaming to buy in 2019: 1) Sony KDL32W600D

Orgone Energy and Our Perception of Sound
Tumblr media
Central Valley sunset during massive transmutation on Apr. 9, 2019
Apr. 10, 2019
We live in a noisy world. There are many sources of life negating sounds. People are desensitized to abrasive noise and treat you like you’re weak and “sensitive” if it bothers you and you desire peace and quiet. In actuality, they are the ones with a problem and they enable the problem to continue by being apathetic. They allow their parasitic controllers to dictate their ability to rest, relax, concentrate, or simply exist. It’s the same as how they can eat McDonalds, which would send me to the emergency room, and how they can live in a head crushing DOR environment, while my head hurts after a few minutes of using a smart phone. There is really nothing we can do about neutralizing life negating sound, since it’s completely accepted. Or is there?
We had a computer meltdown last week and are still in the process of regrouping. This computer provided our morning white noise so that we could sleep past 7am along with performing many other functions in our daily business and work. We just returned from a big job in Fresno, gridding the entire city with orgonite. I would say we covered 95% of the cell towers, or a conservative estimate of 200 towers in the Fresno and Clovis area. It made a 180 degree turnaround in the atmospheric energy and the weather in one day’s time. We knew that when we returned to our home we would have to rearrange how we play our white noise, but we were too tired last night to get technical. So instead of doing this, we decided to see if the orgonite gifting would help the noise problem here, since these are very wide reaching operations. It did, and we got to sleep until we actually needed to get up to feel rested, a little before 9am. Normally peak noise hours by our house are 7-9am weekdays.
In the war on sleep, 7am is now the acceptable time for noise to start according to laws of most municipalities. Therefore, you may expect this to be your wake up time. You will be treated like you’re lazy if you have a wake up time that is later than this one, just like you’re treated like you’re crazy if you don’t like hearing a truck idling outside of your house for several hours each day. You may even be treated like you’re a deadbeat if you require eight hours or more of sleep. I am at my most efficient with at least 9 hours of sleep and I go to sleep after 11pm usually. Am I lazy, or have I done tireless research and work in the field of orgonomy day in and day out for five years? Am I lazy because I produce audio and video content, maintain a fastidious journal of our field work, write articles and a book, and constantly produce quality hand made orgonite because I am more productive in the afternoon than the morning? Most people don’t naturally wake up early and enjoy being up later at night. They are treated like the minority even though they are the majority because this world is parasitically infected and inverted. They don’t want us getting a good night’s rest. Noise is a huge part of the war on sleep.
Because people do not want to be alone with their thoughts, and because over decades their attention span and concentration have been eroded by television, computers, and now smart phones, they actually seem to be comfortable in noisy environments. I don’t know if they actually prefer them or not. I would need to take a survey. I don’t prefer noisy environments. I like peace and quiet and don’t mind being alone with my thoughts. But for most people, a moment of silence, which once resulted in lighting a cigarette, now results in grabbing for the smart phone and clicking around on the tiny screen or watching a video. Then they feel better. All the thoughts are gone and replaced with the thoughts the parasites program through the phone.
There are two ways in which we are now seeing the possibility of using orgonite to help with noise pollution. One is by reducing the effects of mind controlling EMF. We have actually witnessed different and unusual human behavior in thoroughly gifted areas. By unusual, I mean behavior that is almost human. The other way it can help is by changing our perception of sound, or perhaps the quality of the sound itself. Life negating noise is consistently quieter on high OR days.
Regarding the human mind, we noticed that the usual perpetrators of morning noise were less active this morning. Trucks were shut off and not left to idle, workers who burn off hours bulldozing, chain sawing, and driving tractors were absent. It was odd, but of course welcome given how tired we were after two full days of heavy work and long drives. We had a most peaceful and harmonious morning. We have seen a direct correlation between high OR and less mind control related noise. The smart phones dictate most people’s thoughts actions most of the time by rerouting mental pathways. If they want to target you with an etheric attack, they do it through the phone or wifi. If they can’t do this to you because you refuse these devices, they will program others around you through their devices to disturb and abuse you.
In Fresno, I had a very interesting interaction with a young EMF addict at Whole Foods. We were eating our lunch at a long communal table and a little man sat down next to Gabriel. He immediately started playing some game on the smart phone which made annoying jingling sounds. Gabriel looked at me and said it was time to move. I did something I don’t usually do because it never works and usually ends in frustration. I asked the addict to please turn off the sound or put on his headphones. He looked at me with utter shock, mouth agape. He said unexpectedly, “I’ll do it just for you.” I thanked him and continued eating. A few minutes later, he grabbed for the phone and put on a music video. We got up and moved. What interested me about this exchange was that he turned it off at all. Most people of that low consciousness level cannot understand why others would not want to hear mind numbing media played through horrible quality speakers. I believe that it was the neutralization of the towers that even allowed his mind to be considerate for a moment. Of course, the addiction then took control again.
There is one more aspect to noise that I have noticed over the past several months and especially in the past few days. In Fresno on day one before gifting the city, we awoke to a lot of traffic noise since we were staying near an intersection of two major streets. The next day, also a weekday, the same traffic sounded like it was at about half the decibel level of the first morning. This is after over two thirds of the city was gifted. Nothing had actually changed physically in the amount of traffic. Recently near our house, I have noticed that on high OR days, the same negative sounds are quieter. On DOR days they are much louder. This morning, I heard some traffic and motors outside, but it was so quiet it almost sounded like nothing, and this is a weekday with typical weekday traffic. It was also an exceptionally high OR day with cold, clear air after the high winds throughout Central California last night. We didn’t even need our white noise or earplugs. It was dead silent outside all morning.
When OR is high, the landscape looks different. It’s more vibrant and colorful. On DOR days, the same land looks grey and drab. OR changes the way things look. Vision is our mind translating a vibration into the sense of sight. This vibration is affected by life affirming and life negating energy. It would stand to reason that since sound is a vibration, it can also be affected by these energies. OR seems to either change the quality of the sound or how it is perceived by our minds. Our ears translate the vibration into a sense we can understand. On a high OR day, life negating sounds seem to be neutralized. On a high DOR day, they are amplified. These new discoveries may be yet another way to combat life negating frequency, in this case sound. OR and DOR truly are at the core of everything we perceive in the Universe. They are the energies of creation and destruction, and one cannot exist without the other. We should choose creation over destruction in our own lives at every chance we get and that includes the auditory sense.

Lost and Found (Jumin Han x Mc)
Chapter 2 (1,398 words)
Previous chapter | Next chapter
Author’s note: Hi, lovelies! I’m really grateful for all of the positive feedback on the last chapter, both here, on tumblr, and on ao3! I wasn’t expecting to get any comments, so the fact that I got even more than one made me really happy! This chapter is slightly shorter, and I’m kinda afraid I made Jumin ooc, but I hope you enjoy anyways ≧◡≦
Chapter 2
The building was so large. Mc felt small and unimportant in its shadow. She paid the taxi driver and mustered up the courage to enter. Besides, it’s not like I’m meeting the President or anything. Heck, I probably will just give the cat to an assistant or secretary and leave.
“May I help you, Miss?” The young man at the desk was saying. Mc found it slightly difficult to focus. The lobby buzzed with sounds and people. Televisions were hanging here and there on the walls. The chairs and sofas encircling the glass tables seated men and women in fancy business clothes. Mc assumed they were waiting for meetings and whatnot. She wasn’t sure; after all, she knew nothing of the business world.
“Uh, yes. I’m Mc. I have Mr. Han’s cat. Chief Assistant Kang told me to come here.” Mc lowered one side of the cloth bag she was holding to reveal the furry, white head.
“Oh! Please wait one moment.” The man then began dialing a number on a phone. He relayed the situation and a female voice on the other line replied with something Mc couldn’t quite make out.
“Yes, Ma’am.” He hung up and then said to Mc: “If you’ll please take the elevator to the top floor.”
Mc felt her anxiety begin to climb up inside her as she ascended. She was clearly out of her element, wearing leggings and a slightly over-sized long sleeve. I probably look like I’m in my pajamas to these people. She absentmindedly picked at her sleeve which she had scrunched up her arm to prevent it from covering her hand, making the touch pad on the elevator easier to use. Eh, on second thought... no. They probably have way nicer pajamas than this. The woman couldn’t help but chuckle to herself.
The doors glided open and she stepped out onto a floor that was flooded with the setting sun’s natural light. Everything had an orange tint to it. The shiny floors reflected the light to the ceiling, which in turn melted down the walls and blanketed the furniture. Mc noticed a woman behind a desk. There were piles of paper neatly stacked all atop it. The woman herself had short, brunette hair and wore glasses that reflected the light of the computer’s screen in front of her. She didn’t hear Mc approach until the latter cleared her throat and greeted the former with a hello.
“Ah, you must be Miss Mc?”
“Yes. Hello. Miss Kang, is it?”
“That is my name. You have my employer’s cat with you?” Mc confirmed the statement and held out the cloth bag; however, Miss Kang made no move to take it. Instead, she turned to her desk. She held down a button and spoke into the machine.
“Mr. Han? The woman with your cat has arrived. Yes, si—” but she was cut off as the door adjacent to the two women was opened quite abruptly, startling Mc. She turned to see a tall man with dark hair and grey eyes in the doorway. Once his eyes settled on Mc, she wished she could have become a turtle and hide in her shirt. His aura screamed serious and professional, and its intensity was beginning to choke her. She may have unconsciously stood up straighter and forgotten how to breathe.
“I presume you are the one with my Elizabeth III?” His voice was deep and his tone was strict and to-the-point. But... was there a hint of anxiety in it as well? Mc didn’t give herself the chance to dwell on it. She replied, as calmly as possible, with:
“Yes. Here she is.” Mc reached into her bag and scooped the cat into your arms. Is she purring? Upon seeing her owner, the feline meowed and began to squirm in Mc’s arms. She took a few steps forward and Mr. Han closed the remaining distance. With care, he took his darling pet into his arms and inspected her. Mc stood there awkwardly, unsure if it was impolite to stare at him.
After a moment, he looked at Mc. She felt like like icicles were piercing her body. Mc began to pick at her sleeve again.
“Come into my office,” the man demanded, turning on his heel. Mc blinked. She glanced at Miss Kang, who simply looked exhausted, then back at the empty doorway.
“I, uh, should be getting back,” she proclaimed. Liar. There’s literally nothing I have going tonight. Upon hearing no response, Mc sighed in defeat and entered the office.
The man was sitting in his chair with the feline sleeping on his lap.
“Close the door.” Mc obeyed. She turned back to the heir and found him staring at her as he lightly scratched the head of his pet. She could see the calculations running behind his eyes. Was he judging her? Most likely, and it made Mc feel even more uncomfortable than before. She was about to say something to break the crushing silence, but he beat her to it. “Well, Miss Mc, I seem to owe you my gratitude for finding and returning my cat to me. If you don’t mind me asking, what were her living conditions over the past few days?” He may have framed it as a question, but Mc knew it was an interrogation.
“I, uh, used to have a cat.” She cast her eyes to the floor and tried to cover up the sad taste in her mouth with, “So I had the necessities to take care of yours. You don’t need to worry. While they weren’t as— uh— nice as what she’s probably used to, they’re of better quality than what most people of the middle class use for their pets.” What was she saying?! At this point, it seemed as though she were stringing random words together in hopes of sounding sophisticated. Was she even making any sense at this point? “My cat is—was given that same food and she was very healthy.”
  “Apparently not healthy enough.”
“I beg your pardon?!” Mc jerked her head up to face the man squarely. “Minnie didn’t die from health problems. She died from old age. Sorry, but some people aren’t rich enough to pay doctors to cure that.” Mc’s eyes widened in shock as she placed her hand over her mouth. She returned her gaze back to the floor, knowing she should apologize, but simultaneously not wanting to.
“I’m sorry.” He was the one apologizing. “I didn’t mean to be rude. It’s just,” he sighed, “I’ve been worried about my Elizabeth and want to make sure she has been cared for.”
“Well, she looks healthy, doesn’t she?” Mc’s voice was more hushed this time.
“Indeed, she does. Thank you. And I truly am sorry about you losing your Minnie. I’m sure it will be difficult for me also when—” but he stopped himself. Mc stole a peak and noticed he was focusing on the white fur ball in his lap. She observed the softening of his eyes when he looked at the feline.
“W-well, I should be going. I am glad I was able to return your cat to you safely, Mr. Han.” She swung around and began to reach for the handle of the door.
“What about your reward?” Mc halted and turned.
“O-oh. Um, I f-forgot but... uh, yeah?” Mc inwardly cringed at herself. She couldn’t even form proper sentences, and after snapping at a corporate heir at that— wait, was there a hint of amusement in his eyes?
“My assistant will give you the check. Have a nice evening, Miss Mc.” Mc bowed awkwardly and hastily before all but slamming the door shut behind her. It wasn’t out of anger, but pure anxiety. She needed to get out of this building before she embarrassed herself any further.
The assistant followed suit of her employer’s words and even said,
“This isn’t very professional of me, but thank you.” Mc was taken aback at this but replied with a small “you’re welcome.” Either this Miss Kang loved the cat equally as much as Mr. Han, or she was tired of hearing about it. Mc leaned towards the latter option.
Exiting the building, Mc breathed freely for the first time. She stretched out her sleeves to their actual length and subsequently flagged a taxi to bring her home.

Hello, cruel world.
I am exhausted with living on this earth.
I could throw literary quotes at you. I could tell you that society at large has become what the dystopian science fiction authors of yesteryear predicted it would. I could start this blog with a call to arms, urging you to riot in the streets and tear down the prison we've built for ourselves.
But the truth is I'm just tired. I'm tired of constantly living in fear. I'm tired of feeling no connection with the world around me. I'm tired of seeing so much suffering that spans continents, in "the greatest nation in the world", while criminals look down on us with derision from their ivory towers. I am tired of feeling as though, no matter what I do, my decisions are of no consequence. I'm tired of the world slowly eroding me until there is nothing good left in me. I'm tired of feeling alone, and I am so, so tired of seeing the world as it could be--as it SHOULD be--and always coming up so short I can't even see the finish line.
I've been rejecting the reality I've found myself in for far too long, escaping into worlds of my own making or the worlds others have created for the sake of escaping my own despair. But it doesn't have to be this way. I still reject this reality, the efficient brutality of a race that has been born into an environment so unforgiving that we fail to put our own violent natures behind us. I reject the notion that the world cannot improve. I have had enough.
Those of you who have read George Orwell's 1984 might remember the Two Minutes Hate. For those of you who haven't or have forgotten, the Two Minutes' Hate is a daily ritual put in place by a maddeningly restrictive government with the intention of directing the fear and anger of common individuals living in such a repressive society by placing them in front of a television screen that projects images of whomever the Party deems is an enemy. The Other. When I first read it, this excerpt in particular stood out to me:
"The horrible thing about the Two Minutes Hate was not that one was obliged to act a part, but that it was impossible to avoid joining in. Within thirty seconds any pretence was always unnecessary. A hideous ecstasy of fear and vindictiveness, a desire to kill, to torture, to smash faces in with a sledge hammer, seemed to flow through the whole group of people like an electric current, turning one even against one's will into a grimacing, screaming lunatic. And yet the rage that one felt was an abstract, undirected emotion which could be switched from one object to another like the flame of a blowlamp."
These days, most of what I see in the media is the Two Minutes Hate. Talking heads on two dimensional screens telling us who we should hate. Vicious propaganda that those who lack the will to fight the ones keeping them locked in misery buy into wholeheartedly. Instead of directing their rage at the ones responsible, people punch down, ostracizing people less fortunate than them.
But this isn't the reason why I chose to name this blog after the Two Minutes Hate. Because hate is a funny thing--when we don't let it eat away at us, it gives us the strength to fight without abandon. It causes us to reduce things to rubble and burn the remains so there is no trace of its existence. It can be a powerful tool. But it is fire, and most of us, if not all, aren't well enough equipped with the knowledge to know which things are worth burning.
I've been filled with hate nearly for as long as I can remember. Full disclosure: I'm a 27-year-old white, bisexual cis male. For most of my life I lived in a small town and have largely kept myself in seclusion due to bullying throughout my childhood into my teen years. I only recently became aware of the deepening aspects of my sexuality, but over the years I've faced baseless accusations of homosexuality to the point that a cowardly bully had his friend fight me. As a result, I faced suspension. My school district, like most, put on a public face that disavowed bullying, but enabled it when it occurred. The culture I was surrounded by swam in toxic masculinity, boys that pretended to be men through the ownership of trucks flying the Confederate flag and other meaningless, superficial displays of their own insecurities. My "community", which is so very important to conservative culture, treated me like a stubborn weed long before I could even grasp cruelty. I felt suffocated, unable to flourish because there was always someone watching my every move. As a result, I've come to loathe authority in all its forms.
That's just backstory, though. Over the years I've come to realize that my circumstances were relatively fortunate. I'm privileged; people have been murdered over the merest suspicion that they might be gay. There are people who face severe bullying on a near-daily basis, and that's in this country alone. The atrocities committed in our world's history dwarf mine to a subatomic level. I've had friends who have been raped, faced child and domestic abuse, and even now are in circumstances far more dire than my own. It's no longer for my own sake that I hate, it's for those who are beaten down and cannot fight back, whether on an individual or cultural basis.
I'm not here to play white, straight(ish) savior. In fact, I wouldn't even consider myself to be an ordinary person. I am on the verge of mental instability--for years I've felt the effects of severe depression, which is finally in check. For a time I was so suicidal that I abused substances on a daily basis because the only calming thoughts I had in sobriety were of my own death. I have a deep desire to hurt and destroy, to get back at the world that I feel cut me open and left me to bleed out. I'm a sadist and a masochist in the BDSM scene. I have twisted fantasies that run so deeply to my core and no outlet for them outside of the scene. I want to make others suffer for the injustices they inflict upon those who are undeserving of pain. Because whoever came up with the idiom, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" should have been tortured without cause, broken by suffering that held no ultimate meaning. Then he'd have a greater grasp on the state of the reality as it is.
Hate is addictive. Orwell was right; it spreads like a wildfire, and it's impossible not to be caught in the blaze yourself unless you sequester yourself with comfort and ignorance. And turning a blind eye to the problems others face, whether it's next door or on the other side of the globe, is possibly worse. Until now, I've feared the repercussions of acting against authority, the odds of my successful retribution stacked heavily against me. Even now, I fear the things I will express will draw fire from all sides, so I'm shielding myself through an anonymity browser in order to ward off potential enemies, whether they are a collective agency like the NSA or some alt-right IT cunt with internet access. Those of us in the United States have been officially granted a right to free speech, but we live in an era in which seizing that right can go so far as to get you killed, especially if you call for progress and your voice is heard by millions.
But my end goal is not society's complete collapse. There are pieces of this world worth preserving. I may only be useful for tearing things down, but someday I hope someone will build them back up into something better that works for all people. I long to help individuals understand that all people are just that--people. Not secondary or tertiary characters in your life, good-or-evil projections onto a screen for you to scream at. It's this mentality that causes entire populations to suffer, and I know my work will never be done until the most marginalized find a place in society.
But this is not a call to empathy. Part of recognizing each other's humanity is holding each other accountable for their actions. I believe no person can be perfectly good--we all do terrible things, myself thoroughly included--but there are those of us who are so mindlessly destructive in their actions that I honestly believe the world would be better off without them. This quality of malignance does not discriminate between race, gender, or age. We are among self-made monsters on a daily basis, and they deserve as much sympathy as they dole out.
Words without action are meaningless. I don't intend to sit here and tell y'all to start a French-style bloodletting while I sit comfortably in a downtown loft. This is a time for action. This is a time for violence. This is a time to stand up against the birth of fascism in the so-called "Land of the Free". This is a time for hate.
I am Winston Smith, and this is my Two Minutes Hate. This is my war. Will you join me?

The Space In-Between
Have you ever thought about the time you spent going from one place to another? What about the places you passed by? We only ever have one destination... Right? So for all intents and purposes, everything in-between where we begin and end a journey might as well be background noise. I don’t feel this way when I’m out in nature. The trees, the hills, the mountains in the far distance... It all seems pretty normal to notice these things. But what about when you’re in the suburbs, or a city? Do you really look at every house, every passing car, and every sign? You probably do, but our brains are hardwired to filter out all unnecessary information from our memories, so even if we see these places, we may not remember very much about them. Now here’s another question for you: why? If I understand correctly, there is no upper limit to how much memory our brains can store, so why filter things out? Is it to make the more important things easier to remember, or is there something else to these filtered memories, some quality that makes them... Unwanted?
I’ve had a lot of time to think about these things recently. As of now, I’m sitting in my room staring at my computer screen typing up this very story, all because I have nothing better to do. This might seem a tad strange, but it will make sense in time. Honestly, I’m not sure if this story will reach anyone. I guess I’m just doing this for myself. Something very strange has happened to me, and I can’t seem to make heads or tails of it. All I know is it’s getting very lonely in here. Very, very lonely...
It all started about a month ago. I had formed a habit that after returning home from work, I would set all of my things down and go back outside, walk over to my local convenience store called the Pit Stop, buy a Coke, and head back home. It was part of my one-step program “Walk around outside more often” by placing a goal at the end of the journey to entice me. Admittedly, it wasn’t always a Coke. Sometimes it was a smoothie. Sometimes it was a donut, or a bag of chips. Whatever it was, I had a specific goal in mind whenever I walked, and even if I ultimately didn’t buy anything, it did get me out of the house more often.
This information may seem superfluous, but I feel it’s important for understanding the circumstances I now find myself in. I live on the corner of my street, no more than fifteen minutes away from the Pit Stop, assuming I don’t rush. That means the total time spent walking will be roughly thirty minutes. Good? Good. Now, sometimes I would bring along my MP3 player to help pass the time by revisiting old favorites, but other times I would forget or leave it home on purpose, and let me tell you, fifteen minutes there and fifteen minutes back leaves a lot of time to think about things. Before all this happened, I thought about a lot of existential stuff.
Have you ever thought about what’s behind you? No, seriously. What’s behind you is obviously a space that exists, but you’re not consciously aware of what’s behind you without context, and even then, you don’t fully perceive it until you turn around and look. Is it possible the space behind you is different than what you see when you turn around? Since we don’t have 360-degree vision, we can only ever perceive that which our eyes can reach and nothing more. So there is always a “front” and “behind” regarding our perception.
What about the people behind us? You’ve heard someone’s voice without seeing them, right? It’s pretty easy to tell where it’s coming from unless something is in the way. Those people obviously exist whether we perceive them or not... At least that’s what I’d like to think. Simultaneously, we cannot perceive things from their perspective. Even if we somehow unlocked the ability to see through their eyes, we are still simply experiencing something else through our own perception, like seeing a basketball game on television. In this instance the other person would be the camera, and we’re merely looking through the camera. This led me to an idea that I like to call the sole consciousness. Assuming reincarnation does not occur, we only ever perceive the world through one consciousness, our consciousness. As I said before, even if we looked at the world through another’s eyes, it would be no different than them acting as a camera that we decided to peer into, and once we can no longer experience the world, we enter into a stage many people refer to as death. Here’s a question, though: are we aware when we’re dead, or do we cease being aware of anything? Does it all go black? I’ve often thought about what the world would be like if our senses go away. Take away our eyes, and we can no longer see. Take away our ears, and we can no longer hear. If you take away all of our senses, we could no longer perceive anything. Would there really be a difference between true death and consciousness absent of experience? In any case, this all leads me to the unusual happening that occurred that one fateful walk to the Pit Stop.
After coming home from work and setting down my things, I made the conscious decision to not grab my mp3 player and walk to the Pit Stop while thinking about the strange existential thoughts I mentioned above. As I said, this would ordinarily take me fifteen minutes of mostly uninterrupted casual walking there and another fifteen minutes back. On the way to the store, I decided to consciously commit my surroundings to memory. I slowed my pace far more than I normally would, doing everything I could to soak in the streets. I memorized every sign, every house, and every crack in the sidewalk. I don’t know why I did this, I just... Did. If I had to guess, that would have at least doubled the time it took to get to the Pit Stop, and I spent just as much time confirming my memories on the way back. However... The longer I took to soak in these memories, the quieter it became. When I was certain I had perfectly memorized my surroundings, I took one last look around. Everyone was gone.
Now, what do I mean by this? I do not mean that the houses were gone, nor the street signs or the like. The cars were there too, but only the ones in parking spaces. There were no cars driving along the road, nor were there pedestrians passing me by. It wasn’t particularly cold, since it was in the summer, but there was a bit of fog in the distance of every direction. It must have just come in, I thought, for there was no such fog when I first left my home. It was a strange feeling. It was a place I had been to before countless times, but now it felt... Wrong somehow, like I was somewhere I wasn’t supposed to be. Everything went back to normal once I reached the Pit Stop, but the memory of that place, the space in-between where I started and my destination stuck with me.
Interestingly enough, I was not the only one to have experienced this sensation. In fact, the internet had provided me with a name for this place: liminal spaces. A liminal space is most often defined as, “the time between what was and the next,” and I couldn’t think of a better way to put it. I had never heard this name prior to the experience, and yet as soon as I started looking, I found myself flooded with information and eerie photos—places that were familiar and yet more than a little uncomfortable. The photos created the same sensation in me as when I found myself alone on the way to the Pit Stop. That feeling of something not quite right. And that’s when I realized I had been in a liminal space once before.
Back when I was a child, there was a time when I and the rest of my family were getting ready to head over to a pizzeria. I was the last one to approach the car when my mother told me she had forgotten her purse and asked if I could go get it. So, being the obedient child that I was, I headed back inside the house to look for it. Now, I don’t want to criticize my parents’ choice of homes, but the place had a lot of corners and bends, plenty of spaces where it felt like something was waiting behind them, only disappearing once I could see into those spaces. As my parents’ room was on the second floor, I passed by more than one of these strange corners and bends, all lit by simple fluorescent bulbs. My time going upstairs and looking for my mother’s purse while everyone waited outside was the most uncomfortable I had ever felt, and I hadn’t thought about why until now. I made sure to shut all the doors on my way out, but that didn’t help either. Being alone in such a large house with so many places for something to hide behind... I wanted to scream. I didn’t tell my family that I felt that way, because the feeling disappeared as soon as I stepped outside. I guess you could say that memory had been filtered out. Not erased, but brushed under the rug.
After spending so much time thinking about my experience and reading about the experiences of other people, I came to dread going outside. And it wasn’t just because I had a name for that feeling, either. Remember how I said I had taken an unusual amount of time to study my surroundings before I went to the store? Guess how long it took me to get to the Pit Stop and back?
    Thirty minutes.
It felt so surreal. I wasn’t sure if I was remembering things wrong, remembering too many things, or if I had somehow tapped into another layer of reality I was never supposed to see. Up until then I hardly noticed my surroundings. But... Was it because I consciously chose not to remember, or because my brain kept filtering that information out? These thoughts plagued me for days on end, and it made even navigating my own home feel treacherous at times. Technically, I lived with two other people who took up other corners of the home and we split the mortgage, but our schedules were so different we almost never saw one another except on weekends, and even then, we were usually busy with our own lives. So, for a few hours at a time, I felt that existential emptiness close in on me.
After a while, I managed to shake off the feeling and return to my normal routine. It’s just my imagination, I thought. I’m thinking too hard about ordinary things. And that’s what was supposed to happen as I’m sure it happened to everyone else. But I didn’t know that for sure. After all, I was the sole consciousness.
Though my mind had calmed down, there was still a twinge of paranoia in the back of my brain. Thus, I started timing my walks to the store. There were some minor variations in the time (I mean why wouldn’t there be?), but there was something off about the numbers. I can’t tell you when I started noticing, but even though my timer told me thirty minutes, it didn’t feel like thirty minutes. Remember how I said I committed the walk in-between to memory? At first there were small changes, like a missing crack, or a sign I thought was taken down. Then it was more obvious. A missing car, a missing wall, a missing house. Even though the time spent was the same, the space in-between was shrinking. And then one day, I stepped outside my home, turned the corner, and there was the Pit Stop. The time? Fifteen minutes.
I couldn’t believe it. I knew it had to be a trick of the mind. Clearly, I had filtered out everything I saw on the way, and as soon as I turned around, there would be the street I walked down to get here. But... That’s not what I saw when I turned around. I saw my house, as well as the other streets nearby it. And behind me once more was the Pit Stop. What happened to that space? Where had all the cracks and cars and homes gone? And... Where were the people?
I grabbed my Coke, paid the man at the register, and exited the Pit Stop, walking back home. It took another fifteen minutes, but it felt like only a few seconds had passed.
    Then it got worse.
The next day when I got back home and set my things down, I felt something closing in from behind me. Outside it looked relatively normal, save for a thin layer of fog in the distance. But when I opened the front door, I found myself in the Pit Stop. The man at the register didn’t so much as blink at my hasty arrival, nor at what was behind me through the doorway.
“Come back for another Coke?” he asked me.
“Yeah...” I said, avoiding eye contact.
I passed the man his money, turned down the receipt, and stepped back into my home.
Just my imagination... I thought. Just my imagination.
The rest of the day proved ordinary, but the fear of what would be different the next day haunted me all night. I kept looking out the window, wondering what would be different, what would be missing. Nothing seemed out of place from within the house. Nothing at all... But then, when I woke up and got ready for work, something already seemed off. All the windows had their blinds down, shutting out the morning light. I couldn’t twist the handle, I couldn’t look underneath through the window, I couldn’t do anything! I then turned my attention to the door, a sinking sensation building in my stomach as I approached the peep hole.
Looking through the peep hole, I couldn’t see anything. It’s not that it was dark, it’s that there was nothing there. The feeling of something closing in on me from behind returned. I couldn’t bear the thought of turning around, but I did in the end. And there on the couch was my jacket, my laptop bag, my lanyard, and... A Coke.
I checked the time. Hours had passed me by. I turned on the TV. Nothing. I tried my radio. No signal. Just white noise. The world around me was shrinking, closing in on me. I couldn’t breathe. I knew that if I could somehow get outside, the feeling would go away, and everything would be back to normal. I ran to the front door and grabbed hold of the doorknob, but it was locked! I tried to unlock it, but it wouldn’t turn! I couldn’t so much as wiggle it. The door and its lock had become a static object.
“Let me out! Let me out!!!” I screamed. I slammed my shoulder into the door, kicked at it, and even tried to break it down, but nothing I did could even so much as scratch it. I clawed at the blinds and yanked at the strings as hard as I could, but they just wouldn’t open.
Perhaps this seems childish, but after that I ran into my room, shut the door, barricaded it, and hid under the covers. Whatever was happening, I wanted it to stop. I wanted it to end. Was this all because I started snooping around where I wasn’t supposed to? I cursed my curiosity. If only I left those filtered memories behind, if only I let myself forget...
Whether it was the stress or the comfort of my bed, I eventually passed out. When next I awoke, I found myself trapped in my room. Just as before, nothing I did could open the windows or door. I slammed on the door as hard as I could, yelling, screaming, calling for help! But no one came. I wasn’t sure if there was anyone out there. My world had shrunk all the way to the borders of my room, and there was nothing I could do to change that...
The clock on my phone and computer no longer work or seem to be able to connect to anything, and even if I try a stopwatch app, the numbers just fly by. It’s strange that the world hasn’t shrunk since I became trapped in my room, but maybe that was the logical conclusion all along. We only have one beginning and one destination, and if you live in a home you usually have a room. Where does your day begin? Where does your day end? It would seem that the beginning and the end had overlapped, and I was caught somewhere in-between.
So that’s where I sit. Nothing to do except watch the walls, try the doorknob every once and awhile, and type away at my computer. I don’t feel hungry anymore, or thirsty, or even tired. The power never goes out, and the days, if there are any, never begin or end. I’ve had a lot of time to think about what this all means, and a lot of time to think of a solution. That’s when the thought crossed my mind. What if I’m in the space behind you? Not literally, of course. I just mean that space that exists but can’t be perceived. Was it possible that someone could find me and set me free? I’m not sure. I suppose if there’s still a world beyond these walls, then all it would take is for one of my roommates to notice my absence and open the door, but... What if everything was normal and I could no longer perceive it? Am I trapped in my own head?
After all of this, I decided there was only one way I could escape. I sat at my desk, opened my laptop, and started typing out my tale. Maybe if I can get this message out, maybe someone will finally rescue me. That should work, right? It has to!
Please... I can’t take much more of this. I just want to see the outside world again. It wouldn’t take much. Just a knock on the door, a twist of the handle, and one foot forward.
    Please...
    Please...
    Turn around.
