Saturday Soliloquy: November 11
Two things. My youngest grandchild was born on this date. Second, of course, it’s Veteran’s Day. My dad was a WWII Veteran. His war was on a submarine in the Pacific. He was in Tokyo Bay when the treaty that ended the war with Japan was signed. He couldn’t see anything. His ship was too far away from the action. Still, it was a significant moment in history. He never talked about it much. They…

Isaiah 5:20 Calling Evil Good And Good Evil
Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Isaiah 5:20 Mindsets and standards of people all over the world are being changed on a daily basis. Standards that were once common and accepted by the majority are now being rejected as bad. Standards that were once rejected as bad are now being…

A Golden Treasury for the Children of God
by Carl Heinrich von Bogatzky
If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful, he cannot deny himself. - 2 Timothy 2:13
A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice; - Isaiah 42:3
for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” - Romans 10:13
Blessed are they who do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled. - Matthew 5:6
Whoever has such a hungering and thirsting heart, desiring grace above all things, calling upon the name of the Lord, and depending only upon Christ, as a justifying faith already, and is in a state of salvation, though as yet he has not the full assurance of it. This is a fruit of the former, but it is not always enjoyed so soon, nor constantly, at least not without hard conflicts.
Jesus, if still the same thou art, If all thy promises are sure, Set up thy kingdom in my heart, And make me rich, for I am poor; To me be all thy treasures given, The kingdom of an inward heaven.
Where is the blessedness bestowed On all that hunger after thee? I hunger now, I thirst for God! See, the poor fainting sinner, see, And satisfy with endless peace, And fill me with thy righteousness.
Lord, I believe the promise sure, And trust thou wilt not long delay: Hungry, and sorrowful, and poor, Upon thy word myself I stay! Into thine hands my all resign, And wait till all thou art is mine.

"YES, GOD CAN STILL USE YOU!"
Ephesians 2:10, “For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above – spiritually transformed, renewed, READY TO BE USED] for good words, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].” (AMP) When David first arrived at…

Revelation 20: A Thousand Years, Literal or Metaphorical?
A hotly contested verb, and attest to how hard it was to figure out how to translate it. It means “to live,” or "to “be alive.” But in this context, it possibly has a different nuance. #TheMillennium #FirstResurrection
Then, I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given to them—both the souls of the ones having been beheaded because of the witness of Jesus and through the word of God, and the same who did not throw themselves prostrate in homage to the beast nor the image of it, and did not receive the etched mark upon their forehead or upon their hand—and they became alive and reigned with…

Line Upon Line Lesson 020: Deja Vu
Genesis 20:2-5 - Now Abraham said of Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah. But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, “Indeed you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man’s wife.” But Abimelech had not come near her; and he said, “Lord, will You slay a righteous nation also? Did he not say to me, ‘She is my sister’? And she, even she herself said, ‘He is my brother.’ In the integrity of my heart and innocence of my hands I have done this.”
Did you get a sense of deja vu when you read this passage? Didn’t this story seem very familiar?
If not, let’s read together Genesis 12:11-13:
“And it came to pass, when he was close to entering Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, “Indeed I know that you are a woman of beautiful countenance. Therefore it will happen, when the Egyptians see you, that they will say, ‘This is his wife’; and they will kill me, but they will let you live. Please say you are my sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that I may live because of you.””
Abraham tried to pull the same stunt of passing off his wife Sarah as his sister. Why did he do this twice?
Let’s read together Genesis 20:8-13.
Abraham acted out of fear. He tried to preserve his life on his own terms. Abraham showed a lack of faith in God on both occasions even though God promised He would make a great nation of Abraham (Genesis 12:2: 15:5-6).
How could Abraham make the same mistake twice?
Let’s read together Proverbs 24:16; Matthew 18:21-35; Romans 3:23; and Romans 6:23.
Righteousness should not be confused with perfection. Even the best of us are not perfect. Before you judge Abraham too harshly, ask yourself this. How many times have you stumbled and committed the same sin over and over again?
Abraham was as imperfect and fallible as the rest of us are today. We all need Jesus, no matter who we are. He is just and faithful to forgive us every time we repent and confess our sins.
Let’s read together Philippians 1:6 and 1 John 5:4-5.
It is impossible to gain victory over sin on our own strength. We will fail again and again. It is only when we lean upon Jesus that we will overcome.

Worst Trade Ever
We are a sports dominated culture like no culture before us. I include myself. A day isn’t complete for me in the Spring, Summer or Fall without an update on how the Phillies did. Ditto for the Fall and Winter in relation to the Philadelphia Eagles. Both those major sports sometime have so-called “Blockbuster Trades.” So maybe this metaphor makes sense to many. Here’s my version of the worst…
