about your tags, i havent watched black sails but im nosy, how does flint end up living?
Hi, that’s a loaded question as whether he DOES actually live is up for debate. Basically a famously unreliable narrator, storyteller and liar, John Silver tells a “nice” story abt how he betrayed him but didn’t kill him and in fact reunited him with his “dead” lover in an English prison/labour camp. Problem with this happy ending is that flint’s character (and a lot of the story as a whole really) is centered around fighting against English rule. Flint is a radical who dedicated his life to harming and overthrowing the empire/ colonial rule, as he was branded a “monster” and betrayed by his father figure (an English navy man) for being gay and in a relationship with his “dead” lover.
He was exiled for that crime which then led to him becoming a pirate to seek revenge which eventually leads to him becoming a radical figure and connecting with other radicals. The last we’re 100% sure we see of flint is Silver betraying him and pointing a gun at him. Silver tells Madi,the woman he loves and another radical leader whom he betrayed that flint got a happy ending at the prison camp and his lover (who has been firmly dead since years before the show even took started) was miraculously alive.
Personally I like to believe that Silver just killed Flint (as fucked up as it sounds, I know) bc I believe flint living out the rest of his life betrayed, trapped under English rule and punishment is a much bigger tragedy than his death would be and I think flint would be happier to be dead than alive in a labour camp. It sounds bad I know but when u watch the show he is very passionate in his hatred for England, his refusal to apologise or be pardoned by them, his determination to overthrow them and get revenge and I don’t think even getting his dead lover back could ever change that. (Probably the Irish in me speaking too lol)
Anyways one of the biggest themes of the show is storytelling, lying and performing to create certain narratives and mythos. In the final episode of show one of the main characters (whom is obsessed w creating his own legacy) states “a story is true, a story is untrue, as time extends it matters less and less. The stories we want to believe, those are the ones that survive” which is basically confirmation that both interpretations of flint’s ending are valid and it allows you to choose your personal favourite:)
Sorry this was so long winded lol I just have a LOT of black sails thoughts

QSMP Reader Insert One-Shot: It's a Deal
Summary: You were one of the residents of Quesadilla Island running for presidency; at least, you were. Halfway through, you had decided to drop out due to some other runners having similar campaigns to yours. But after listening to them better, something about them makes you uneasy, so you decide to get back into the run…with one of the few people you would ever trust.
Hi everybody! Alexa here! I'm feeling quite optimistic about this little bit I'm writing today, even though I've told myself quite a few times to wait for when I'm getting to the real fic, but that's not important right now. What's important is that I get this out before the final elections on the QSMP, because that's what this one-shot is all about. And man, if you guys have time to read this, might wanna grab a snack and a drink cause this is lengthy; probably one of the longest solo pieces I've tried writing.
Anyway, this is a female reader insert, as those are easier for me to write and because we don't have much girl power on the QSMP. But, if you are not a girl who is reading this, feel free to change things up for your own preference. I am a fifteen-year-old Christian teenage girl, but I know I have to respect and be thoughtful of others. This takes place after the third debate (Day 106). As for what you're up to, well—you'll just have to find out.
Major spoilers if you're not following the QSMP, or if you're still catching up on it. I'm sorry if anything is not entirely accurate to the timeline of the QSMP; I've checked the characters' pages on the QSMP wiki yet they're not entirely up-to-date on events. This is actually the first one-shot in a collection of two or three, because I had to get this out soon with the recent lore on the QSMP being absolutely crazy and getting darker and deeper, and the elections being close to wrapping up. I hope you don't mind what I did to get this out soon, everyone. I just hope I did a good job.
Will also be posted on quotev.com, fanfiction.net, and archiveofourown.org, on my account with the same name: Ashley Masenado, except for fanfiction.net with the username being AshleyMasenado15.
I hope you all enjoy, and remember—stay safe, and stay weird.
——————————————————————————————————
I can't believe I'm doing this…
You pursed your lips together as you walked through the woods, far away from the town, one hand in your pocket as the chatters grew quieter and farther away from you as you walked. You shuffled around your fingers, trying to stay calm, as you went over the crazy plan in your head again, over and over, to make sure you had it.
This plan was crazy. You were going crazy, and you absolutely hated it. For a while, you always thought you were the only sane one left on the island—until now. But this—this idea changed that thought. There was no turning back—but now you wished there still was.
Your steps came to a halt as you glanced around your surroundings, then raised your left hand to look at the screen of your Portable Minecraft Guide (PMG). You pulled up the map to check your location, and your icon confirmed that this was exactly where you needed to be. Pulling up the inventory tab, you rummaged through one of your backpacks for the three item kinds you would be needing: lava buckets, water buckets, and a flint and steel.
Your plan was simple: create a Nether portal with the bucket method to get Cucurucho's attention so you could negotiate with it. Normally you wouldn't break the rules on purpose; you had strong morality boundaries after all (unlike a majority of the people on the island). But you had no choice. You had missed the chance and had to come up with this in desperation, especially after what had happened near the end of the debate today. The chaos had prevented you from even getting a chance to see Cucurucho, so this was your best and only shot. You were not going to waste this only chance.
Letting out a deep sigh, you began to build the portal as the afternoon sky gave way to night. The cool breeze cooled the heat on your face, calming your heart from the nerves of today's events. As you poured one lava bucket down, followed by a bucket of water following your exact calculations, your thoughts drifted to the past events that you were around for since the beginning of Quackity's QSMP. Some were fun and fueled your resolve for adventure and to solve the mysteries of the island, while some were quite…depressing. Ordo Theoritas had been reestablished, the Nether portals at the end of the train tracks were a huge discovery, Quackity's mysterious disappearance (which you were still trying to solve today), many eggs had died (including your own, which nearly destroyed you and you were absent for a week, even needing therapy once), and the beginning of the elections of presidency for the island.
That was actually where you were now. Out of pure curiosity you had actually opted to run for president; and being the "do-it to-it" person you were, you went for it. After a bit of hard brainstorming and plenty of rewritten drafts, you had the perfect campaign: a program designed to protect the eggs and the people, and everyone and everything on the island. Cellbit, whose primary goal you knew was to leave the island—you knew he was going to be against the idea. But that didn't bother you, even if he was a good partner outside the elections.
As the elections had gone further with the first debate, you grew bold enough to share your further ambition to bring down the Federation, as they had done nothing to stop the problems of the Binary Code Entity and its attacks on the other eggs. It had been the cause of so many deaths, of people and eggs alike, and all they did was sit back and watch? Well you had had enough. If this so-called government wasn't going to do anything about your problems, you would. You would make sure of that.
At least until the very next debate. After you had heard the proposals of Bad and Baghera, you had decided to drop out of the elections as they had similar ideas to yours, and you figured since they were older than you and had more experience with these things. And besides, you figured with your lack of self-control that you'd probably go mad with power the moment you started your first day. It was probably for the better that you had dropped out. Thanks to some negotiations with Cucurucho and having the official paperwork signed, you were out of the run for presidency.
What some people didn't know, was that not long after the second debate, you were having second thoughts. There were many things you knew that the others did not, and these things worried you. Had you made a mistake to drop out of the elections? Maybe. Especially with Bad's proposal, which you had reflected on more after reading back on your draft for the QSMP newspaper (you were the main editor as it gave you something to do after you lost your egg). You didn't want something like that to happen again; you couldn't let it. You would not let it. If anyone was going to actually make things better on this cursed island, it was going to be you.
As the heaviness of the load in your hands began to lighten, you stopped pouring and put down the empty bucket. The portal was finished and now it only needed to be lit. You stared at the flint and steel in your hand, seething through your teeth at the thought of the crime that was about to be committed. Standing in position and gripping the tools tight, you flicked the flames and the deed was done. Now all you had to do was wait.
As you stood there waiting for Cucurucho to come by and give you your news, you thought of the strange nature of this white robotic bear. Ever since your first interaction with it, you had thought it to be an A.I., due to its use of a soundboard to communicate, having no desire for itself, and its constant presence to ask questions to the reidents as surveys. You were very wary of Cucurucho, especially after its first jumpscare on you. You nearly had a heart attack that day. No joke; you had to pump your fist on your chest plenty of times and your child had to calm you down since you were even laughing your head off with insanity.
As time went on and you were noticing patterns in its behavior, you began to understand it more—at least, you hoped it did. Cucurucho was only doing its duty, given to it by the Federation. It was only doing what it was told, even if it did have some… interesting methods to getting the job done. It reminded you of yourself in a way, with your "get-right-to-it-before-I-get-too-lazy" attitude. Except you weren't the kind to use force to get your work done, so of course there were some major differences. At least you didn't laugh in someone's face when they were about to lose the last of their hearts.
A flash of white caught your eye from the trees in the left, and you immediately stepped back as Cucurucho came running. In a single click it destroyed the portal, one block at a time. Not a single trace was left, not even a particle. As soon as the portal was out of existence, it turned around and faced you with that same eerie smile, plastered on its white mask for hours at a time. It sent a chill down your spine whenever you saw it; it was like a prison it couldn't escape. If you still didn't think Cucurucho was just some AIR (Artificial Intelligent Robot, as you called it), you would have felt a little sympathy for it.
"Hello," it said, its iconic leather-cover notebook in its left hand. The feather pen was stuck in-between the pages, serving as a bookmark for where it could write when it had to communicate with the residents beyond its limited soundboard. Its white long-sleeved shirt, white pants, white fingerless gloves, and white socks and shoes were spotless as always, somehow completely free of stain. The white mask sported the usual shiny black eyes and button pink nose, and the unmoving mouth where the soundboard played its repeated words held the same old smile. "You have committed an illegal act. Please, follow me."
"Yes, Cucurucho, I know I did, but I only did this to get your attention," you muttered, holding your hands up in defense as it tried to walk away. "I just wanna talk alright? It's really important, so please just listen."
To your surprise, the bear stopped in its tracks and turned around, returning back to you as it had walked away a few paces. It opened its book and wrote down some quick scribbles, then handed it to you to read.
I'm listening; what is it you need? The text read; inwardly you sighed with relief. You didn't think this plan would have actually worked, and yet it did. You figured it was now best to move on to the next phase, so you explained that you wanted to get back into the elections, and you needed Cucurucho's help for it. The bear was quiet the whole time, completely still as you talked. Halfway through, you realized the danger of the current situation and frowned slightly, looking around to see if anyone was listening in. Internally you sighed and rubbed the bridge of your nose, reprimanding yourself for not thinking this entirely through.
"We're not safe talking about this out here," you said, turning around to the direction of your house. The bear had put the book away, its paws now empty as it stood there; perhaps contemplating its decision in the matter. "Would you mind if we have to go to my house? I think we're close enough to it."
"No."
"Okay cool," you said, as you began to walk towards the direction of your home. You turned around to check if Cucurucho was following, and you kept going as it stayed three blocks behind you. As you went, you kept your map window open to make sure you were taking the most inconspicuous route, even making sure no one was following you by checking behind you every minute of the way. Normally you wouldn't call yourself paranoid, but things on the QSMP were making you more and more afraid of the island everyday.
Ever since the death of your egg child, you had been feeling less like your old self. You had become more tense, more wary of your surroundings and especially very careful with who you made friends with. You even stopped frequently hanging out with people, which you used to do plenty before to make more friends and be more socialised. Sometimes when some players would come by to ask how you were, they would be answered with an "I'm fine" and a chill wave. But in reality, sometimes you forgot how to smile a genuinely happy smile.
It took a bit of a long walk and a bit of quick sidestepping to avoid some of the player residents, but you and Cucurucho finally arrived at your little wooden cottage in the larger cherry blossom biome, near a quaint little village where you had built your house. It stood on top of a hill where the sun could shine into your windows. You opened the door to let Osito Bimbo in, then after you closed it you flicked on the lights with your redstone-powered lever that went all the way to some lanterns up on the ceiling.
Your living room was simple, yet enough to make one feel right at home. The red couch on the right side of the house was enough to seat atleast five people, and it was clean and inviting. On the right armrest was a jukebox with a chest labeled "Non-Copyrighted Relaxation Music" on its right side. A window with shutters was on the left wall, the shutters having been pulled up so the sunlight could flow in and warm the room enough; albeit with nighttime coming through, it was more of the sunset coming in. A ceiling fan whirred on in the middle of the ceiling, surrounded by the warm glows of the lanterns above. At the far side of the room were the stairs leading to the upstairs, with the bedrooms and the guest rooms. A hallway to the far left of the room lead to the dining room and the kitchen, where you lead Cucurucho into. You gestured for it to take a seat at one of the chairs at your table, while you went into the kitchen to prepare some refreshments for the both of you.
"Hey Cucurucho," you called from the kitchen while you poured pre-prepared hot water into two little teacups. "Jaiden told me you like tea a few days ago. You want some honey in your green tea?"
"Yes."
Nodding, you took out two of your green tea bags from the second top cabinet, dipping them into the cups and stirring a tablespoon of honey into one of them. You quickly stirred it and carefully made sure to evade the steam quickly lifting from the cup, as to not burn yourself from it. While the cups cooled on the counter, you took out a few home-baked Fita crackers from another one of your storage cabinets and put them on a plate, then put them aside to make room for the cups. After you brought and distributed them on the table, you took one of your discs from the shelf in the living room and played it in the jukebox near the table, then took a seat as you took your cup to sip your tea.
With the comfy music, you took some time to collect your thoughts while you looked around the dining room. The place was rather homey as intended, nice and simple with a long wooden table and wooden cushioned chairs. It took up most of the dining room, but left enough space for people to walk around the table, especially when you needed to serve visitors their refreshments. Lanterns hung from the ceiling from reinforced iron chains, bathing the room in a warm and comfortable glow.
You put down your cup and chewed on some biscuits, then after another sip you took a deep breath and braced yourself. Gently clapping your hands, you turned your attention back to the white bear, who seemed to have not budged from its seat except for having opened its book on the table and the cup in front of it being noticeably half-empty.
"So, Cucurucho," you started, holding out your hands in a hopefully professional manner. "Like I said, I wanted to talk to you about the elections. I would like to get back into the run for presidency."
"Why?"
You shuddered inside; this was new. You didn't think Cucurucho could have its soundboard updated to include new vocabulary, especially since you were used to hearing its usual "Good morning" , "No", "What are you doing?" and its eerie monotone "Hahaha". But maybe it was always there and you just didn't get an opportunity to hear it before.
"I want to get back into the presidency because I am concerned about the proposals of some of the candidates. Not only because of what they plan to do, but also because I am wondering if they will actually do it. Many running candidates often tend to forget about their promises because of their want for power. Once they have the power offered to them, they often forget about what they've promised and only care about themselves. Do you follow me?"
"Yes."
"Well, I'm not going to be like that. I've decided that if there's a fat chance that these candidates won't do what they've promised to do, then I'll do it myself, as I've always told myself all the while while I was in the run for presidency. Basically, I'd like to get back into the run for presidency because I want to help the island, and everyone in it, in my own way. What do you say?"
There was another reason you wanted to get back into the run for presidency, but it was one you would rather prefer to keep to yourself. Not only did it make you uncomfortable to think about, but it reminded you of terrible things that only further motivated you to get back into the run. You couldn't let something like that happen again, especially not with Bad and Foolish. They were some of your best friends on the island and the QSMP itself, and there was no way you would let history repeat itself over.

Deciding not to dwell on the past, you looked up and noticed that Cucurucho's notebook was in front of you with the words written inside: "Please wait while I discuss this with my workmates." From across the room, Cucurucho had pulled up a window on its PMG, which you figured was where it was talking with its fellow workers of the Federation. You decided to be patient and think of what you could request to Cucurucho in case it would need you to do something to fulfill your requisition. You carefully closed the notebook with the pen inside as a bookmark and slid it back to the bear, chewing on the rest of the biscuits on the plate while leaving some for Cucurucho.
After only a few minutes, Cucurucho turned off the window and carefully took out a page from its notebook. Your eyes widened as you never thought Cucurucho was allowed to do such a thing. But you figured it was best to say nothing, so instead you opened the chat on your PMG and began to talk with your friend Foolish. The QSMP members were put into an all-members group chat where if a single person messaged, everyone would immediately be able to see it. Luckily, the QSMP admins had created something new for the players: a personal chat similar to the private messages in Minecraft, except without the /msg command which made things a little tedious. You were especially grateful for this new function, which you used plenty of times when you weren't busy building.
Hey Foolish, what's up? You put in the personal chat for Foolish Gamers, his profile picture of him in his shark hoodie and doing a silly face in his selfie. This always made you giggle and actually made you feel a little better when you were feeling down, especially since you all liked to joke about Foolish being a comic relief during all of these hard and angsty times.
Nothing much, just hanging out with Leo rn He typed, an adorable little peace sign emoji following after. An image of Leo with a poppy doing a little dance came on, which you immediately reacted with a little red heart for Leonarda exclusively.
She actually misses seeing you around He texted. Asking when you gonna be able to come see her again
Tell her I said I'm sorry that I can't like, come over cause of how busy I am with my house You replied, with a little sad face emoji with the little teardrop. I do miss seeing all the eggs, Leonarda especially
Cucurucho's usual "Good morning" made you look up from your PMG at the white bear, who gestured to two pieces of paper it slid across the table to you. Curiously, you tilted your head at it then looked down at the paper, and what you saw made your eyes widen.
A little ping made you look back onto the open window, with a message from Foolish saying You still there bud? with the little sad face with puppy eyes. You giggled for a second, then replied with Yeah, but I gotta go now though. On the next message you said Sorry bud Then a little wave emoji, brown for your skin color from your Asian heritage. Bye you texted, putting away the chat window without waiting for an answer. You glanced back at the paper on the table in front of you, your heart dropping once again as you picked it up with the utmost delicacy.
The papers were but pieces of a contract, written down with Cucurucho's iconic feather pen. Despite being written with a feather quill pen, it was very neatly in the Courier New font, as if it were written on a computer and printed. The Federation's logo was in the upper-left corner, as it always were in the bear's notebook (you noticed this logo a while after it would ask you to answer its surveys). You didn't know the Federation was now starting to print contracts for the residents, which was making you nervous, frightened even. Quietly you opted to ask Cucurucho when they had started writing these for the residents, albeit it only answered with an ominous "I don't know. Maybe". With a frown, you began to read through the paper's contents, remembering to read through the fine lines so as not to miss anything majorly important. The contract read as follows:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The rest of the paper read about an agreement to keep everything about tonight confidential: the meeting, the agreement, every single little detail. Not a word was to be uttered to anyone about what had occurred in this little cottage in the woods, on top of the hill above the village. You wondered how Cucurucho had been able to write this all down if it really wasn't an A.I. Perhaps it had had some help with its fellow members of the Federation, as it had been talking with them in a private chat window just a few minutes earlier.
Speaking of the Osito Bimbo—it was making you nervous; like, somewhat jittery in your seat as you tried not to let your heart pound so hard. It had been staring at you from its side of the table, never moving from its spot except for a few notably missing biscuits off the nearby plate. The cup was empty as well, which made you wonder if Cucurucho had been eating silently while you read as you had not heard a thing.
"So let me get this straight," you said, rubbing the side of your temple to get rid of a small headache and straighten your thoughts. "If I can fulfill the guidelines talked about in this contract, I can get back into the elections—back into the run for presidency right?"
"I don't know. Maybe."
"Mmhmm, right. So this is only effective until July 31 huh? That's plenty of time for such simple items, but I'm not asking for harder work."
Carefully you read the contract's fine lines over again at least three times before nodding and putting down the paper to face Cucurucho. Its black eyes stared back at you as if it were waiting for you to make a move first before it would, and you already knew what it was waiting for. To seal the deal and get you right to work.
You stood up, locking a firm gaze with the white bear as you held out your hand in agreement. This was it—the point of no return. "I've made my decision," you alluded. "I accept your offer, and I understand that there's no turning back from here. From here on out, it's a deal. I'll do my duties well and I'll make you proud."
Cucurucho stood up as well and took your hand in a rigid grip, the touch feeling cold despite the warm feel of the fingerless gloves. With a simple handshake and a quick signing, the deed was done, and the deal was sealed.
"I hope you enjoy the island."
"I will, thanks," you muttered as Cucurucho quietly left its seat, pushing back in the chair to the table. You figured it had other duties to attend to after this, so you knew it was time to bid goodbye for now—yet somehow you knew it would always be watching. Showing it the way out from the front door, you waved to it goodbye and good night as you tiredly stretched from the doorway. After it disappeared behind the trees below, you closed the door and went back to the dining room.
The papers still lay on the brown table, a stark contrast in the color scheme that was somehow pleasing to the eye. Your brows furrowed in worry as you picked it up, knowing there was no turning back now from this. You had to do it. For the island's sake, and your friends. Even if you had to explain a ton of things later down the line.
Deciding this needed to be secure, you sealed the document into a spare plastic bag and looked around for a good hiding spot. Your paranoia was making you worry about the thought that someone could come in here while you were gone and steal it out of pure curiosity, then your secret would be out and no one and nothing would be safe. It took you a while to find a secure location, but after that you figured you could rest easy. You pulled up the Settings window on your PMG, then logged off the QSMP for the day.
Back in the real world, you took off the VR helmet and shook the spare strands of hair out of your face. A quick stretch did you good, and then you opened your face cam to talk to your chat. You had been streaming on YouTube for atleast a few hours, and you needed some food and a quick nap; that sounded good enough. And the people in the chat definitely needed some of that too.
"Alright guys, I'd say this is a good time to end today's stream," you said to the camera, smiling for your viewers. You quickly read a few comments asking what was next for the lore, and you said there wasn't going to be too much major stuff except for what had just transpired, so they didn't have to expect much to happen except for stuff-gathering for the rest of the month if you could help it. Some joked that it was a bit like Jaiden's lore on the QSMP, and you couldn't help but agree that it was a bit similar in a way.
"Please note however that everything you have seen or will see in the QSMP is all heavily improvised roleplay, so please do not send any hate to the content creators for any action of theirs you find displeasing. Thank you, God bless, and have a great day."
From there, you ended your stream with your brief ending screen, then you stood up to prepare yourself for the rest of the day. Now out of role play mode, you couldn't wait to see what would await you in the QSMP the next day.

Ranboo inadvertently convinced Niki to burn down the L'mantree.
(/rp) Niki doesn't get enough love and hindsight is 20/20, so I wanted to point out some stuff about her character-developing (and generally cool) discussion with Ranboo from Doomsday.
Please go watch the vod for yourself! The part I'm referencing specifically is 14:23 - 20:53 and some of the best details are in their line delivery. Plus I cut like 90% of the conversation.
"I screamed at you and I didn't mean to scream at you. [...] I'm sorry."
More of an establishing shot, so to speak; here we see that Niki has somewhat of a level head, especially compared to the day before. It's not that she's gotten past her anger, it's just not all at the surface and aimless anymore. She felt the need to apologize to Ranboo, which she wouldn't have done if she still believed he was at fault (hence why she's not apologizing to Tommy, or even anyone else in the crowd).
"They didn't care about what I had to say, they were just listening to me because I was loud. You know that you're right, but-"
"-They will never listen. All they do is shut you down and talk over you."
This kind of understanding means a lot to Niki. Everyone always talks over her. Always. I'll spare you the whole backstory, but even down to screaming at Schlatt and Techno to have some humanity and not publicly execute Tubbo, no one ever listens.
Ranboo is fairly new at this point, and by extension he has yet to truly let Niki down, other than by helping Tommy burn George's house (which, in her mind, likely circles back to Tommy's actions leading to a poor outcome). Not to mention the fact that he's a notably more reclusive and quiet person; they find camaraderie in being outliers of a sort.
"Ranboo, if you think that we should fight for L'manberg today, I will fight with you. Because I believe in you."
"I think we should. [...] If we don't fight with them, what are we showing them? We're showing them that we never cared about them."
"I- I care about them. I really do. But I got hurt by them. They always talk over me. You know how that feels."
"Sometimes you just have to get louder."
This is the turning point.
Niki doesn't necessarily trust Ranboo, but I believe her when she says that she believes in him, even if it's not exactly the whole truth. So, to her, the solution being to scream when she wants to be heard is incredibly disheartening. Mostly because she's already tried it.
She did scream the day before. At all of the people who are supposed to be her friends. Niki explained how much Tommy has destroyed and how stupid it is to be following him, but they just kept talking over and around her.
Meanwhile, when Ranboo yelled back ("I don't care-") everyone immediately fell silent.
His advice worked for him, but it didn't work for her.
"Sometimes you just have to get louder until they have no choice but to hear you."
"...I see."
During my first re-listen of this scene, here's where it hit me; a complete shift in perspective has happened. They're still having the same conversation, but Niki and Ranboo aren't talking about the same thing anymore.
He's saying that they'll pay attention to her if she yells, but that pause and subsequent agreement has nothing to do with that. She's focused on the "no choice" part of his statement. The idea that she has to make real noise. The kind they literally cannot ignore.
"But our actions speak louder than our words. So if we don't do anything then what will they remember when they decide to pick a side again? They'll remember that we didn't help."
"I see."
And this is where the first seed of an idea is planted.
Again, Ranboo's still on about understanding here. He's telling her this with the mentality that they are going to fight for L'manberg together and she wants an opinion in that context, which was her original question.
Niki has moved past that. This is about her now, not the place she used to call home or the people who don't care about her. If they won't listen to her words (and they won't, they haven't - not now, not ever) then she can do more. She will do more. She will do something they won't be able to forget.
"You're able to redeem yourself. [...] Fight with them, so that they don't fight against you."
The final blow. Justification for her now-inevitable action.
Niki believes in Ranboo, as established. She thinks he's fairly correct. So when he tells her that they will fight against her if she doesn't fight with them - even though he meant it to be - that's not incentive to be on their side.
That is actually the crushing realization that although she has given her entire self to this country a hundred times over (she was ushered in as first lady, she sewed the flag, she resisted Schlatt) they will turn on her the first chance they get. As if they haven't already, choosing to follow the person who she believes caused all of this destruction in the first place.
Niki doesn't need to feel bad for whatever she does next, then. Because they would do just the same to her, if not worse.
"Okay, thank you Ranboo."
When they gather with the group, everyone's yelling. Ranboo asks what's happening and no one answers. No one asks about Niki.
They're squabbling over the country and it isn't even theirs. They've never done anything for it.
She asks HBomb for a sword and HBomb hands her not only that, but enderpearls, potions, and finally, some TNT and a flint and steel.
Niki debates what to do, but her choice has essentially already been made.
(Backed by the echo of Ranboo saying that she needs to be louder. That actions speak loudest. The feeling of being abandoned and imprisoned and then abandoned again. The open space left behind by everything she's lost.)
And y'know what? When she tells them that she was the one who burnt the L'mantree, they finally listen.

Arson is a great pastime - Chapter 2
Y/n was on her way to L'manburg when she saw Tommy running in her direction. "Whoa, slow down Tommy, what's the hurry for?"
"I was, looking for you, actually," he seemed very out of breath. How long had he been running for?
“Why?”
“What? Can’t I just want to see a friend?” He sounded offended.
“Tommy, you always have ulterior motives," he scowled, knowing it was the truth.
“Fine,” Tommy huffed, “Y’know this new guy, Ranboo?”
She tensed for a split second, she was still wary of him. She should trust her older brother, but it was hard with everything he's done in the past, "Yeah."
"Well, y'know how George was nowhere to be seen during the- the war?" He hesitated, it had been over for a while but it was still a sensitive topic. She nodded in understanding, "I found out what he was doing! The motherfucker was building a house, in the middle of a fucking war!"
Tommy was outraged but Y/n couldn't help but laugh, "At least he wasn't sleeping for once!"
He smiled, "You laugh so fucking easily," he paused debating if he should say it or not, "Pussy."
Y/n instantaneously stopped laughing and looked up at the smug boy. She pulled her sword out of its sheath and positioned it so it would be only a few centimeters from his throat.
"Y/n, what are you doing with that sword?" His voice was shaky, obviously afraid. It was her turn to be cocky now, giving a sarcastic shrug,  expertly avoiding his neck. "Okay okay, I'm sorry! Just, please, don't kill me!"
"Hmmm. Okay Tommy!" Tommy looked incredibly confused at the girl's compliance. He quickly realized that it was all an act to scare him. They are only a few people who she wouldn't hesitate to kill given the chance, and he wasn't one of them.
"Okay, so follow me," Y/n did, and was lead behind the portal and to a cozy looking, mushroom themed home, "George was building a home, in the middle of a war."
"Are you fucking kidding me? Of course he would…" She said in a slightly upset monotone voice.
"I have a plan to get back at him! That's why we need Ranboo, so if we get caught we can frame him!"
"Tommy! We can't just frame people! Are you insane?! What are we even gonna do that'll warrant framing someone?!" She panicked, Tommy never thought anything through.
"Calm down woman, so many questions! Just doing some minor robbing," Y/n started walking the other way, " maybe a little, lighting fires, as well." She turned back around, her eyes wide. Of course, he had to mention fire. Y/n was a bit of a pyromaniac, so much so that Dream's nickname for her was firebug.
"Oh, you fucker. I'll help, but only if we don't frame Ranboo. He can help, if he wants. If he's blamed for it first we don't interfere, but if either or both of us get pointed out first, we don't pin it on him, okay?"
Tommy nods, agreeing to her terms. "Okay, let's find this Ranboo first.”
“Oh, I think I saw him in the nether actually!” Y/n ran towards the portal, Tommy accompanying her.
They arrived and saw him right by the nether portal. "H-Hey, Ranboo," Tommy looked at her startled, she was never one to stutter. She looked at him with a look that screamed ‘Did I just do that?’ He nodded slowly, still looking confused.
“Hey, guys.” Ranboo had no idea why they were looking at each other like that.
“Oh, hello, Ranboo. We want you to help us with something.”
“Jeez, Tommy, straight to the point…” Y/n muttered.
“Don’t doubt me Y/n.” He leaned towards her ear, only a couple of inches.
“Sorry, Tommy.” As she finished her sentence, Ranboo pulled out a book and wrote something. She was curious but didn’t want to be rude.
“What do you want my help with, Y/n and Tommy?”
“First off, it’s Tommy and Y/n, not Y/n and Tommy,” Y/n gave him a quick jab in the side with her elbow, he winced but carried on, ignoring her sharp glare, “Also, come with us to my house, we’ll tell you.”
“I don’t know why we’re going to Tommy’s house, but it’s safe, I’m pretty sure.”
“‘I’m pretty sure?’ Why aren’t you completely sure? Should I be concerned?” Ranboo questioned.
“What is with you guys and questions?”
“Nah, there isn’t really any reason to be concerned, just be on edge, who knows what the hell Tommy does in his free time.”
Tommy huffed in annoyance toward Y/n’s teasing. They were at Tommy’s home. Tommy asked Ranboo where he wanted to go, and he chose the lair. “Ranboo, I say we rob George.”
“I- Why would we rob him?” Ranboo asked. The h/c girl averted her eyes, starting to regret agreeing to this, or rather, starting to regret it more than she did a few minutes ago.
“Right, you’re new here. Just simple payback Ranboo. You see, we had a war almost 2 weeks ago, and George didn’t show up, at all. And, earlier today, I found out what he was doing, instead of participating in a war. He was building a goddamn house. Now, we won’t destroy anything, we’ll just steal a few things. Y/n will light a few fires, not his house though, just a few trees that are around, they’re far enough away from each other, we won’t start a forest fire. We just want minor payback.”
“That sounds, better? But, why do you want me to help?”
“Ranboo let’s face it, Y/n is probably sick and tired of me, she needs more friends.”
“That sounds incredibly sad, are you okay?” Y/n appreciated how genuine his concern was.
“Yeah, I’m pretty okay. My brother is kinda a psychopath, and the man that was like a substitute older brother to me was killed. Other than that, I’d say I’m doing a-okay, Ranboo,” she didn’t realize how that sounded until she looked up and saw Ranboo’s slightly perplexed posture. “I-I’m sorry! That sounded really bitter and sarcastic, I’m actually fine, those things are just, kind of hard to comprehend, still,” she talked slower towards the end of her sentence.
Ranboo noticed this, “H-Hey, it’s fine, Y/n, I understand, it didn’t sound as mean as you think, it’s okay.” He smiled, which she could hardly see through his mask, but she knew it was there. She smiled back.
“Okay, let’s go.” She said.
Once they arrived, Y/n strode towards a tall spruce tree. She pulled out her flint and steel and stared at it for a moment in dispute with herself. If she did this, what would happen? Would they actually be caught? What if Dream found out? She rubbed the flint against a rock to see if it still worked. A couple of sparks flew before it set the leaf she was holding with her left hand on fire. She hissed when the burning touched her skin slightly. She hadn’t done this for a while.
“No time like the present,” Y/n whispered to no one but herself. She took a step closer to the tree and with a swift cutting motion, the bark of the tree erupted into hot orange flares. She backed away with a sadistic smirk. She looked around for a brief second, surveying to see if anyone was near, only to see that there was another fire a few meters away from her’s. One that was burning parts of George’s home.
She ran into the house to see what they were doing. She saw crying obsidian on the walls, derogatory messages on signs, but most notably patches of netherrack on the floor, each covered in fire. “What the hell? This is why I was put in charge of the burning!”
“What’re you on about Y/n? I’ve got this!” Tommy sounded so sure of himself, unaware of what he had done.
“Obviously you don’t, George’s house is burning on the outside!” She yelled at him.
Tommy looked at her with wide eyes, she’s only ever been this angry at Dream. There was a long silence, during which she visibly calmed down, the look in her eyes was of lament, her body was visibly shaking, purely from her regret of everything that happened in the past 5 minutes. “Guys we have to go,” Tommy said quickly, exiting the grieved home.
Y/n nodded but didn’t move. Tommy was already over by the jungle trees waiting for them. Ranboo noticed Y/n wasn’t moving. He placed a hand on the top of her back, “C’mon Y/n, if we wait too long to leave they’ll know it was us, okay?”
“Okay, Ranboo,” she said just hardly loud enough for him to hear. They walked through the forest to avoid being seen until they go to Tommy’s base and inside his lair. They stashed everything they stole under the stone flooring.
“We should go talk to Niki and Puffy for an alibi,” Tommy suggested.
“You guys can go do that. Can I stay here for a while, Tommy? I don’t feel so good,” the girl said, her voice trembling.
“You can stay here as long as you like Y/n, don’t worry about it,” Tommy gave her a sad smile to which she returned, taking comfort in the pinkish-purple couch, which was surprisingly warm for being underground.
Tommy walked over to the ladder, Ranboo following him closely. Tommy was already above ground, but Ranboo waited at the bottom of the ladder. “Bye, Y/n. Don’t worry, if anything happens, I know it wasn’t your fault. Just don’t beat yourself up over it, please.”
They sat in comfortable silence for a moment before Y/n responded, “Thank you, Ranboo. I-I’ll try not to.”
“I don’t want to come back to you being gone, or having a panic attack. So please, avoid doing that.”
“Hurry up Ranboo!”
She laughed quietly and nodded, “Goodbye, Ranboo.”
“Goodbye, Y/n for real this time.”
She watched as he climbed up the ladder. If he was a spy, she would be more upset than she would’ve been originally. She doubted it though.

52. Accidentally witnessed kiss
(i know that you technically did this when karl hid from the sheriff but i love the trope of someone just being :0 when they see two people smooching)
it could be a kiss between two (any duo like mason and jack or jack and karl) people.
or someone could catch all 3 of them smooching. connor/flint could be the one to catch them. like theyre trying to rob john john and mason and jack just go to tie karl up so he can’t get help. (ofc this robbery is lighthearted it’s treated as like a casual hang out) but connor just catches all three of them making out.
or you could do another idea!! i love reading your drabbles it’s really fun! your ideas are always so good <3
Thank you so much for the suggestion! Unfortunately they each take a long time to make and with the lack of questions and ideas, I'm running out of new content to give you all! If you all could send in questions or ideas that would really help!
I think I'll try writing the three of them together! I really like your idea of a light hearted robbery that's treated like a casual hang out!
-------------------
"What do you think your doing?"
The three bandits turned to look at the man who had interrupted their daily robbery. Karl was standing in the doorway with his arms crossed and a cold glare of disapproval aimed at the three trouble makers. He was even leaning to one side just enough for the gun on his belt to be in clear view of the three. He looked like he ment business.
"Mornin Karl," Jack greeted casually, "You're doin way better at bein scary today!"
Karl's hard glare immediately melted into a shy smile, a light blush growing over his cheeks.
"Thanks," He mumbled as he made his way over to the bar, "Thompson gave me some pointers yesterday and I've been doing my best to practice!" Taking a seat between Jack and Mason.
Mason nodded approvingly, "Well they're workin! I was almost scared for a moment there." He laughed loudly as Karl softly swated his arm with an offended gasp.
"Hey, if any one could teach Karl to be scary, it's Thompson." John John defended the colorful sheriff, passing him a drink.
Karl thanked the teen as Jack called out to him,"So you gonna arrest us today sheriff or what?"
The sheriff smiled before putting on an exaggerated British accent, "Only if you continue to rudely rob this fine establishment." He claimed wiggling his pointer finger at them. He looked like a disappointed teacher who just caught a kid disobeying the rules.
The three bandits burst out laughing at his face, Karl quickly melting into giggles himself.
Mason composed himself and managed to taunt Karl a little. Snickering out,"Too bad for you, we don't plan on stopping." With a playful smirk on his face before going to take a sip of his drink.
"Yah, keep messing with us and we'll have to tie you up sheriff." Connor added on jokingly.
Mason started choking on his drink and Jack did a double take as Connor immediately realized what that sounded like. Karl and John John both seemed to miss the unintentional joke, seeming more confused and concerned respectively.
Karl looked over to Jack with a questioning expression as John John took Mason's cup and turned around to find a rag to clean it with.
"Yah sheriff," Jack leaned closer with a mischievous smile, "We'll have to tie you up."
Karl took a second before his face turned a bright red. He took a second to roll the thought through his mind and blushed even harder. Taking a breath he looked between the other two's faces and saw encouraging and understanding looks staring at him.
A little quieter then before, Karl put on the exaggerated accent, "As a sheriff it is my jo-"
He was cut off by Mason lifting him off his chair with a small yelp of surprise. Mason started strolling towards the sheriff's room in the back of the saloon with Jack quickly trailing behind him.
Jack called over his shoulder, "You keep on robbin' Connor, we'll be right back!"
The three disappeared around the corner just as John John turned around with the freshly cleaned glass in hand.
"Where are they going?" He asked Connor. "They didn't finish their drinks."
Connor mentally cursed the trio as he clumsily replied, "Like they said, I'm sure they'll be right back. We were talkin about doin somethin for Sherman's birthday, right?"
John lit up, excitedly chatting about gift ideas for the piglin. Connor kept John distracted as long as possible with mindless chatter and story's. Eventually, his luck ran out and John John asked him, "It's been over a half hour, where did they go?" Fiddling nervously with his new watch that was given to him by Karl.
"I'm sure they're fine," He reassured John, but before he could bring the discussion back, a muffled thump sounded from the back of the saloon.
John started to shuffle out from behind the counter. "What was that? Did something fall?" He asked nervously.
Connor could think of a few different reasons and none of them were things he wanted John John to walk in on. He rushed out a gentle,"You stay here. I'll go check it out. I'm sure it's fine. Probably just a book or something." He passed John his empty glass.
John nodded while taking the glass. "Hurry back," he called as Connor hurried away from the conversation.
"Oh I will," Connor mumbled to himself as he slowed down to a slow meandering pace. Hoping that if he went slow enough that the three would suddenly appear back at the bar with out the chance of walking in on any scene's.
As he stolled closer to Karl's room at a snails pace, he noticed the lack of sound that he could hear. He hoped it stayed like that while he shuffled closer and closer.
He neared the door and noticed that it was cracked open slightly. From within he could hear the faint ruffle of fabric and kissing noises. He stood there awkwardly, not really knowing what to do in the moment. Sure he had walked in on Mason and Jack making out before, but they were either in a back alley or in a room with a locked door, and he had never walked in on them with Karl before. It was such an awkward situation.
He debated turning around and telling John that Karl just dropped a book, but he knew the kid would ask more questions and he really didn't want the kid to decide to investigate himself.
Sending a prayer he slowly leaned forwards and peaked into the bedroom. He spotted a tangled mess of legs on the bed. All of them with pants on! He mentally cheered.
Curiosity edged him to peak the rest of the way. He reasoned with himself that not looking would just make his brain keep nagging him about it later. He immediately blushed at the scene in front of him.
Karl wasn't wearing his coat, which would have been jarring in any other situation, but seemed more than natural while he was sandwiched between the other two bandits. Mason was laying on his back with Karl's back pressed against his chest, kissing and biting at Karl's neck. Jack was laying on top of Karl, chest to chest, and kissing Karl like he was a lifeline. Karl's arms were tucked behind his back out of Connors view, kept there by something he couldn't see.
Connor decided that he had seen more than enough and turned silently around to head back to John John.
Who was halfway down the hallway and getting closer by the second.
"John!" He yelped loudly. Wincing as he heard a startled yelp and resulting thud come from the room beside him.
Evidently, so did John, who quickened his pace.
"Hey, John John! I thought you were still at the bar." Connor called loudly alerting the three to both of their presences outside. From the quiet "shit" and rustling of fabric, he's pretty sure they got the message.
"You were taking forever," John explained, not slowing down in the slightest as he closed in on the bedroom, "And what just fell? That sounded heavier than a book."
John John gasped in surprise as he darted past Connor. "Karl! Your neck! It's all bruised up!" He pointed out as he seemingly ignored the fact that Jack was sprawled out on the floor or the fact that all three of them were bright red in the face.
"Oh," Karl squeaked out,"Is it?"
"Yes it is!" John wrapped an arm gently around Karl and guided him out of the room. "Come on, I've got some medical supplies downstairs. I'll patch you up real quick."
Connor watched the sheriff get dragged off and scolded by the young bartender. Once they were out of ear shoot he turned back to the rest of the Democrat Haters.
Both were thankfully mostly clothed with their vests on the floor somewhere. Mason fiddled with Jack's bandana in his hand as the two had the decency to look sheepish about the whole incident.
"Really?"
"YOU BROUGHT IT UP FIRST!"

That took awhile! Sorry for the long wait!

Rafe showed up to class on Monday with more nerves than he ever had, unsure of what Sophie’s reaction would be. After having a long heart-to-heart with James and Colin (though he would never call it that), he had come to terms that maybe, just maybe, he liked Sophie Flint more than a friend. He was determined to try, telling himself he would be patient when she would try to argue like always and that he would give it a chance. For once.
Sophie didn’t seem to get the memo.
She barely greeted him, only offering a half-smile when she sat next to him - unusually late, only there one minute until class was meant to start. “Running late today?” Rafe elbowed her with a grin.
“Guess so.” She shrugged, head down as she started scrawling into her notebook while their professor started teaching.
He frowned, caught off guard by her cold demeanor, given that they were cuddled together in a bed just under 48 hours ago. “Just teasing, Soph.”
She nodded, keeping her eyes down. “I know.”
The rest of the class continued like that, Rafe resisting every single urge in his body to tear off a piece of paper and slide her a note. (She’d probably find it annoying, and it wasn’t middle school, anyways.) At the end of class, she didn’t even bother to pack her bag, just gathered her things into her arms and hurriedly left before he even had a second to say goodbye. As promised, he met James to walk to their next class together, looking completely lost.
“How’d it go?” James asked Rafe with a grin, reaching out to knuckle his fist against Rafe’s hair.
Rafe ducked out from under him and shoved his arm away, scowling. “Not good. She barely even looked at me, let alone talked to me.”
“Oh.” James frowned. “Maybe she was just tired? It is kind of early.”
“Nah, she at least smiles at me. Or have some smart comeback and she didn’t even try today.” Rafe rubbed the back of his neck, thinking about how she avoided him.
“Huh. Text her and see if she’s okay.” James urged.
“She probably wouldn’t like that.” Rafe hesitated, but took out his phone anyways. “I don’t want her to think I’m annoying.”
“Then wait and text her later today. It’ll be fine, dude, don’t stress about it.”
“I’m not stressed!” Rafe argued.
James rolled his eyes and grabbed Rafe’s wrist, not letting go when Rafe objected and shoved up his sleeve. He inspected the peeling leather on Rafe’s watch band and dropped his arm, shaking his head. “You scratch up the leather on this when you’re stressed out. And those are new marks.”
Rafe yanked his sleeve back down over the watch. “I didn’t think you picked up on that.”
“Well Colin pointed it out first, but now I notice whenever you do it.” James shrugged. “It’s Sophie. She’ll come around.”
“How are you so sure about this?”
James shrugged again. “Like we said yesterday. You two are like, magnetic or some shit. There’s no way it won’t work out.”
“He didn’t say a single thing to me all class!” Sophie exclaimed the second she walked through the door, huffing as the door slammed shut behind her.
Both Allie and Julia lifted their heads from their work at their desks, completely unfazed by her loud entrance. She had recapped the events of the night (that she could remember, at least) yesterday morning over brunch, several mimosas, and they both had to talk her down from marching over to the Delt house right that second and asking for answers from Rafe.
“Not one thing?” Julia asked, skeptical.
Sophie flopped down dramatically onto the beanbag in the corner. “Well, okay, maybe a few things, but that was it. It’s like he didn’t even try.”
Allie raised her eyebrows and shut her laptop. “What exactly did he say, Soph?”
“He asked if I was running late, because, you know, I showed up later -”
“So you wouldn’t have to talk to him.” Julia pointed out.
“Only because he didn’t text me at all!” Sophie cried out, shooting a pointed glare her way. “And then he said he was just teasing and that was it.”
“Did you give him room to respond?” Allie asked gently, trying to get her to see through her flawed logic.
Sophie huffed, crossing her arms. “Probably.”
“Oh, probably, that’s a solid answer.” Julia rolled her eyes. “Look, do you want something with him or not?”
“I…” Sophie faltered, thinking. “I mean, maybe, but not if he can’t even text me after we slept together.”
“Well how big is he?” Julia grinned.
Allie reached across the desk, swatting her arm. “Jules!”
“What?!”
Sophie groaned, covering her face as a blush bloomed on her cheeks. “I don’t even know, guys, I told you I can’t remember anything after we got back to his house. I just remember trying to kiss him and then I woke up in his t-shirt.” She gasped. “Oh my god.”
“What’s wrong?” Julia frowned.
“What if I was that bad? Oh god, what if I was genuinely so terrible that he literally never wants to talk to me again? I can’t really walk when I’m drunk, so I’m probably not even good at fucking -”
“Stop, stop!” Allie laughed, throwing a pencil at her from across the room. “I don’t want to hear the details. Are you even sure you hooked up?”
“Yeah, why else would I be wearing his shirt?” Sophie reasoned. Her phone chimed and she froze, holding it up. “It’s Rafe. Should I open it?”
“Yes, stupid, open the text!” Julia exclaimed, scooting her chair closer to see the phone.
“Be nice!” Sophie scowled, unlocking her phone - and her jaw dropped. “Oh no.”
“You are so dramatic.” Allie giggled, walking over to see. “What’d he say?”
“Um...I might have made a mistake.” Sophie groaned, turning her phone to show two texts from Rafe yesterday, and one that had just been sent.
Rafe, 8:30am Sunday: Everything okay? You didn’t need to leave
Rafe, 4pm Sunday: Hope you’re feeling alright today
Rafe, 10:15 Monday: Are you okay?
Julia snorted. “Way to leave him on read, Soph.”
“Jules.” Allie chided, frowning.
“This is bad, isn’t it.” Sophie bit her lip, embarrassed.
“It doesn’t look great.” Allie admitted. “But hey! He still checked in on you just now! You can make up for ignoring him.”
“It wasn’t on purpose!” Sophie defended, already typing back a message.
“Wait, don’t look too eager.” Julia tried grabbing at the phone and Allie swatted her hands away.
“Don’t listen to her, you’ve been playing hard to get for two and a half years. Eager is fine.”
Sophie paused, glancing between the two of her friends, then sent the text. “Al, if I regret this, I’m blaming you.”
Allie rolled her eyes. “I’d expect nothing less.”
After a moment’s pause with bated breath, her phone chimed again and she grinned, turning the phone away to hide the screen. “Okay, okay, you two can go back to studying.”
Julia laughed, moving away with Allie. “Don’t forget to be nice for once.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Sophie stuck out her tongue at Julia, but smiled anyways.
Sophie: yeah I’m good, just tired. sorry I didn’t see your other two texts
Rafe: I was beginning to think you were ignoring me haha
Sophie: no of course not
Rafe: Good
Rafe: Do you want to come study at the house tomorrow night? We can be in the formal room it just seems silly to go all the way to the library when we live so close
Sophie: what do we have to study for?
Rafe: Tomorrow’s Tuesday, did you forget about our running study date lol
Sophie: date huh
Rafe: You know what I mean
Sophie: yes I’d love to come over, I’ll see you at the same time
Once Rafe got Sophie’s final reply, he liked the message then let out a sigh of relief. He hadn’t paid attention to a single thing in his economics lecture, focusing more on texting Sophie and her responses. As their professor dismissed the class, Rafe shut his laptop with a grin, turning to Colin. “Can I -”
“Yes, you can have my notes.” Colin rolled his eyes, walking out with Rafe. “You texting Sophie the whole time?”
“Yeah, she replies slow - wait, how’d you know?”
Colin laughed. “You were grinning like an idiot at your computer during the whole lecture, and you hate this class.”
“Oh.” Rafe tried his best to fight the smile on his face, then shrugged. “We have a date tomorrow.”
“Really, you actually asked her out? Good on you, man,” Colin said.
“Well.” Rafe hedged, rubbing his neck. “Not exactly. She’s just coming over for when we usually study for our class together.”
Colin groaned and shoved Rafe’s arm. “That’s not a date, idiot. Do better.”
“I gotta take it slow!” Rafe protested.
“You’ve had your time taking it slow. Make a real move for once.” Colin said, shaking his head.
Sophie showed up to the Delt house dressed a little nicer than usual, just enough so Rafe would notice, in a sweater and a skirt. She was more nervous than ever, fidgeting with the ends of her hair as she waited on the front porch. Rafe hustled down the stairs the second he got her text, greeting her at the door with a huge grin. “Soph, hey!” He glanced over her appearance, immediately regretting his t-shirt and sweatpants attire.
His grin put her at ease and she relaxed, following him into the house. “Got a hot date after this or something?” He teased, leading her to the formal room where a few other boys were out studying.
“And what if I do?” She challenged, taking a seat opposite him at a table.
He raised his eyebrows, trying his best to not show any sign of disappointment. “Do you?”
She blushed a little but kept his gaze. “I - no. I had a presentation for class.” She lied, embarrassed she had even tried so hard.
“You look good.” Rafe paused. “Really good.”
Sophie bit back a smile, shaking her head a little. “Thank you. Um, we should study, I don’t want to keep you busy for too long.” She slid out her notebook, showing him a few pages of meticulous notes for their debate topic.
His notes, albeit messy, rivaled hers. “You actually prepared.” She said, impressed as she flipped through the pages.
He frowned a little. “I’ve been prepared every time. I’m not gonna let you down, Soph.” The words held more meaning than just talking about the group project and she did her best to ignore it, nodding as she skimmed over his notebook.
She paused, finger on a small note scribbled in the margin. “You wrote down my coffee order?”
Rafe blushed, embarrassed, and snagged back the notebook. “Well yeah, I had to remember it somehow.”
“That’s sweet.”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever. Less about us, more about the ethics of time travel.” He flipped to a fresh page, ready to take down more notes. The two kept up easy conversation for a while, not noticing the time passing as they worked. When Sophie realized she’d been there for over an hour and the conversation was still surprisingly dry, given what had transpired on Saturday, she reached across the table and snapped Rafe’s book shut.
“Look, we should just talk about it.”
“It?” Rafe repeated, raising his eyebrows cluelessly.
“You know.” Sophie hinted, then huffed when he just looked more confused. “You’re gonna make me say it? Fine. Okay, since we slept together, you haven’t - what the fuck are you smiling for!” She scowled, crossing her arms.
He was grinning ear-to-ear but leaned back in his chair, clearly amused. “Sorry, sorry go on.”
“This isn’t funny, Cameron.”
“That’s Mr. Cameron to you.” He teased.
She ignored him, rolling her eyes. “Since we slept together you haven’t said a single thing about it. And whatever, I know I was drunk, but if I was really that bad -"
Rafe couldn’t keep the act up anymore and started cracking up, hardly able to keep eye contact. He doubled over, almost wheezing as he laughed.
“It’s not funny!” Sophie hissed, embarrassed as his loud laughter drew attention from boys walking by.
He swiped his hand across his eyes, shaking his head as he let out a few more chuckles. “Soph, we didn’t sleep together. Not like that.”
Sophie frowned and it was her turn to be confused. “Wait, what?”
“You called me when you were drunk, I picked you up and you wanted to come back here, then you asked for clothes to change into to sleep.” A small blush crept up his neck and he looked a little shy. “Then, um, you asked me to come cuddle but I accidentally fell asleep when you did. And I woke up and you were gone.”
She sat back in her chair, reeling as she processed this new information. “I didn’t sleep with you.”
“Not in anything other than the literal sense, no.”
“Oh.”
“See? Nothing to worry about. You were drunk, I wouldn’t have - you know. I just wanted you safe.”
At those words, she remembered him saying them that night. “And you practically saved my life.”
Rafe paused. “Huh? I mean, you almost stepped out into traffic. But wait, you were hammered, how do you remember that?”
She rolled her eyes. “I remember practically everything even when I’m drinking, what do you mean?”
“Practically everything…” he repeated, slowly. She could practically see the wheels turning in his head at her confession. His jaw dropped. “So you lied! About our first kiss!”
“I...yeah.” Trapped in her lie, Sophie winced. “I don’t know why. I’m sorry, I just didn’t want you to think I go around letting just anyone kiss me when I’m drunk.”
Rafe laughed, shaking his head. “You kissed me, Sophie Flint. Not the other way around.”
She scowled at the name. “Oh, not the full name now, you’re making it sound like I’m in trouble.”
He hesitated, glancing down at his notes before looking back up at her. “Why’d you lie?”
“I was nervous.” She admitted, biting her lip. “Maybe I thought you’d think less of me or something, I don’t know.”
He softened, reaching out across the table to take her hand. She let him, brain fogging over as he rubbed gentle circles on the back of her hand with his thumb. “I’d never think that, Soph.”
She took a moment too long to reply, distracted by his touch. “Okay. Good.”
“Should we finish?” He asked, not letting go of her hand.
She was the first to let go, reluctantly pulling her hand back to her book. “Yeah. Um.” Sophie blushed, flipping through a few pages randomly to give her a moment to think. “Page 54, yeah?”
_
The second Rafe waved goodbye to Sophie and let the door shut behind her, James and Colin practically ambushed him in the foyer. They had been ‘studying’ in the corner of the formal room, not-so-subtly giving Rafe multiple winks and thumbs up from behind Sophie’s back as they tried eavesdropping on their entire conversation. James clapped Rafe on the shoulder, grinning. “Ask her out yet?”
“No.” Rafe responded, still confused from their conversation. They had gotten nowhere, yet they had also gotten...somewhere? “I held her hand.”
“For two seconds.” Colin rolled his eyes.
“Still something!” James interjected, ever-positive. “But dude, if you want something, you actually have to make a move. Like…” He pretended to lean in with puckered lips and Rafe shoved his head away, rolling his eyes.
“I know, dude. I gotta take it slow.”
“You keep saying that.” Colin pointed out. “When are you actually going to do something about it?”
Rafe scowled. “Get off my back.”
_
She couldn’t do it. She really couldn’t.
Every single bone in her body wanted to just give in, be nice to Rafe, see if they could be a thing. But that would require letting someone in, being vulnerable, and Rafe Cameron of all people was not who she could do that with. (At least that’s what she told herself.) She could feel herself falling for him, and that freaked her out.
Their study dates had gone from once a week at the library to twice a week at the Delt house. Never at Theta, she wasn’t prepared for the rumors that would fly and hearing girls speculate about a possible relationship. The reality check for her came when Julia called her out for waking up early for class just so she could put on a little extra makeup or make sure her hair wasn’t just thrown in its usual ponytail. “If you like him, just say something.” Allie had encouraged her, trying to give her the push she needed.
Sophie resisted, as usual. “There’s nothing between us.”
They really only needed thirty minutes, max, to knock out their prep for their debate class, but Sophie found herself stretching out the time to an hour and a half, sometimes two. Rafe never seemed to mind, eager to keep discussing the merits of their side of the debate and to just see that spark in her eyes for a little bit longer as she spoke about something she was passionate about.
Today had to be different. She set a timer on her watch the second she stepped through the doors at Delt, following Rafe through to their usual study spot. Sophie told herself she was only allowed to stay the thirty minutes, nothing more, and keep the conversation strictly to work. Maybe even be a little mean, if she had to, to push him away again. (It always worked before.)
“How was your day?” He greeted her with his signature grin and she visibly winced, already feeling herself cave. She sat across from him and glanced at her watch. Twenty-nine minutes. God. She could do that.
“Fine.” She replied shortly, not reciprocating.
He nodded, unaware, and tapped his foot nervously under the table. “That’s good. So I was thinking, if you wanted to, maybe, after studying -"
“I can’t.” She cut him off. “I can’t stay long, I’m busy. Let’s just get this done.”
“Oh - oh. Okay. Sorry.” He apologized needlessly, rubbing the back of his neck.
“It’s whatever.” Sophie dismissed. “So I was thinking we focus our argument on these three main points…”
He tuned her out and just skimmed over the notebook she slid over to him, eyes tracing over the words but not truly reading any of them. Rejected. Huh. He didn’t even get the chance to get the words out, ask her to go get ice cream after. Maybe that would have been a stupid move anyways, considering it was the last week of October in Ohio and only forty degrees outside. Next time he’d think of a better plan, next time he’d -
“Rafe.” Sophie’s annoyed voice snapped him out of his reverie.
He jerked his head up. “Huh?”
She rolled her eyes. “God, were you even listening? Pay attention.”
He resisted a frown, halfway paying attention now as she spoke. Did he do something wrong? He thought they were getting along, flirty even. Maybe he misread the signs. “What’s up with you today?” He asked, more concerned than irritated.
“Nothing.”
“Are you sure? Because your attitude seems like something.” He couldn’t resist pressing her buttons, just once.
“I don’t have an attitude. Just trying to get this stupid homework done.” She snapped back.
He raised his hands in defense, a little taken aback. “Whoa, chill. We can get it done, you don’t have to be rude.”
Sophie softened, just a little, and glanced at her watch again. 23 minutes. Maybe she didn’t have to entirely be an asshole. “Right.”
Rafe held her gaze for a moment, as if trying to read the thoughts running through her mind. “Okay. So I was thinking…” They kept a somewhat civil conversation, strictly related to their class, though Rafe could tell something felt off. She didn’t have the usual teasing lilt in her tone and he was too nervous to even try his typical flirting - his hand grazing against hers, or a sly comment here and there.
After a few minutes of reading together from a new article on Rafe’s laptop, he spoke up. “Hey, Soph -” he started with a hint of a frown.
“Sophie.” She corrected, keeping her eyes trained on the computer.
Rafe’s face fell flat and he pressed his lips together into a thin line, nodding once. “Never mind then.”
“What is it?”
“I said never mind.” He repeated, shaking his head.
The rest of the time was fairly quiet as they scribbled out notes for their arguments, sharing a relevant piece of information every few minutes.
“Why’d you choose architecture?” Rafe asked after a few moments of silence, both of them reading over their textbooks.
“Study, Rafe.” Sophie reprimanded him with a bored tone, keeping her eyes on her book ‘til she finished the page. He glanced over her expression, trying to decide if she was serious or not, then went back to his book.
“I thought it was cool. I like seeing the way things work, how buildings are crafted. Everything has a purpose.” She spoke after a moment.
He smiled. “That’s cool. I can tell you like it.”
“You hardly know me,” Sophie pointed out.
(Not true. He could read her like a book after all these years, knowing exactly when she was about to snap. She could do the same.)
 He frowned, feeling her putting up a wall, her typical defense mechanism when she didn’t want to admit the truth. “I think I do.” He argued, keeping her gaze. She rolled her eyes and broke eye contact first, dropping her eyes back to her book.
He sighed, quietly, and returned to pretending to read.
Sophie broke the silence this time. “Why are you studying film?”
He looked up, a little surprised she was taking interest. “Uh…” he trailed off, trying to think of how best to phrase it. “Movies were always my escape. If my dad was busy with work, y’know, like usual, he’d just throw on a movie for me and my sisters.” He smiled, thinking back. “I’m pretty sure I have Hercules memorized by heart now.”
“That’s cool. My favorite Disney movie was Robin Hood.” Sophie mused, scribbling a couple notes in the margins of her book. She tried her best to keep an impassive composure, although she wanted nothing more inside than to spend hours just talking about his interests and seeing the way he beamed when she was interested too.
“I never really liked him. Didn’t he steal from people?”
“Not really, he stole from the tax collector and gave the money to the poor people.” She pointed out.
“Oh.” Rafe paused, not sure if he wanted to continue the argument. “System’s in place for a reason, right?”
Sophie wrinkled her nose, annoyance creeping into her tone. There was something about his indifference that made her just want to reach across the table and shake some sense into him. “Not when the government is creating an illegitimate tax system.”
He shrugged. “Dunno. Guess I never watched that closely.”
“Well I’m right, anyways.” She declared, lifting her chin a little in a challenge.
“It doesn’t matter anyways, Flint, it’s a cartoon.” Rafe replied, slightly exasperated. There it was - back to last names. For some reason, it made Sophie madder than ever. She hated the way it rolled off his tongue so easily, like he knew her by nothing else.
“It does matter, Cameron, it’s the principle of the thing.” She turned up her nose haughtily toward him, crossing her arms. She knew she was doing exactly what she shouldn’t do, chipping away at their already rocky relationship built on a foundation of uneven stone. “But I’m not surprised you wouldn’t care.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” He retorted, mimicking her pose from across the table.
“It means you’re a dick. Always relying on daddy’s money.” Sophie stood her ground, jaw set. The way she said it, it was too sure, too carefully crafted to hit just where it’d hurt. Casual, almost, as if it meant nothing to say that. Like she’d been waiting to use that line for ages.
That stung more than he expected, even though he’d heard it before - just not from her lips. He shot his response back quickly, too quickly, and regretted the words the second they left his mouth. “At least I don’t have to work two jobs just to pay for college.”
Her face turned to stone as she felt the heat creeping up her neck, threatening to expose her embarrassment. Sophie gathered her things quickly, carelessly shoving them into her backpack, then paused before leaving to look him straight in the eye. “That’s fucking low, Rafe, even for you.” She said quietly. The words hung in the air between them as she turned sharply on her heel and strode calmly away, trying to beat the tears on the verge of spilling over her cheeks.
Her watch vibrated on her wrist just as she stepped outside, hot tears welling up in her eyes. Thirty minutes. Timed perfectly.

a.n: this is literally the first fic i've written in like... 10 years. it is fluff. just fluff. for context, look up the "fleabag hot priest wedding speech." this is set after the great caravan rescue but charles is obvs not captured so this is a fix-it. the time jump was like a outlander type-thing lolol. also this was originally written with f!reader but i tried to make it gender neutral so if i missed something i'm sorry.
ships: gn!reader x Charles Vane, Anne x Max, Flint x Miranda x Thomas, Jack x himself
also, i love charles vane, and if you do too, let's chat.
tw: cursing?? tooth rotting fluff.
_____________________________________________________________
The Youtube video stopped. Max, Miranda, Jack, and Thomas wiped their eyes. James held his lovers’ hands. Anne held Max’s face. Charles just stared straight ahead.
They’d been discussing love when they came downstairs (James and Anne weren’t so much discussing as they were just interjecting at random points, Charles just scowled into his rum-spiked coffee). They walked into the kitchen and asked what the crew were talking about.
“Love,” Jack replied in a dreamy voice and with a flourish of his hand.
They just smiled and said, “fleabag. hot priest. wedding speech. Youtube it. I’m going to take a shower.” With that, they turned on their heel and bounced back out of the kitchen.
Miranda and Max were the first to move, dragging their respective partners behind them. Jack started to follow, and then shot a look back at Charles who hadn’t moved from his place at the island.
“You coming?” Jack cocked an eyebrow. He received a grunt in response, or maybe it was a “fuck you, Jack.” Hard to tell since Jack wasn’t fully caffeinated yet. “Come on.” He hauled the captain up off the stool as best he could and started pushing him toward the living room.
When they arrived, Max and Thomas were standing in front of the tc trying to figure out the remote, James lounged with Miranda at his side, and Anne watched the whole scene with a smirk. She raised her eyebrows at the two men staggering in last before scooting over to make room for them on the couch beside her.
“Okay okay wait I’ve got it- fleabag hot priest wedding speech,” Max spoke into the remote.
“Fleabag hot yeast welding speech,” Siri replied, pulling up a myriad of results that couldn’t possibly be she wanted them to see.
“I give up,” Max shoved the remote into Thomas’s chest- well, as well as she could considering he was doubled over with laughter like the rest of them. Thomas straightened up, cleared his throat, and enunciated, “fleabag hot priest wedding speech.”
The results looked better this time considering that Siri actually understood what she was supposed to be looking for. Max moved to sit on Anne’s lap, and Thomas found his way under James’s other arm while he clicked the button to start the video.
The video wasn’t even two minutes long. Charles hated the beginning- it sounded like him with Eleanor. He had doubted himself, had been creepy, occasionally obsessed with his hair (he would never admit it and hold a knife to the throat of anyone fool enough to suggest it... but it was true), he most definitely did things he never thought he would do, and it certainly had been hell.
And he had done it all more or less alone.
Eleanor was with him for every possible reason except who he actually was. When she saw him at 17, she saw the up-and-coming captain, trained by the feared Blackbeard himself, and realized that he meant business and power. Two things she desperately wanted and would do anything to get. He respected the hustle- he could understand that. But it was the way she knew which buttons to push for him to do things that he would maybe only admit to regretting on his death bed. She wanted his name, his reputation, his stubbornness, his body- but not necessarily his values or anything else that actually made him who he was. Anne and Jack saw it from the beginning, and sure he’d been slower on the uptake, but after the last time she crossed him, he was done.
Then Blackbeard returned, she returned with a price on his head, and that’s how they’d ended up here, 300 years in the future with Jack’s sibling no less. He’d seen some weird shit, but nothing like this.
They met them at the door, a smile on their face until they realized that Jack was hurt. They got the ragtag crew inside, took care of them, and in the process started to get to know all of them. He almost laughed at that- the way that they were so at ease with some of the most feared pirates in the world and they acted as if they were just random classmates of their brother's that he brought home for them to meet. They had taken the time to get to know each of them, separately and together. Anne they already knew since Jack had brought her around a few times and the two were clearly close. They'd been overjoyed to see Max and how happy she made Anne (even if Anne would never admit it).
And they started talking to him. They were curious about his life, and no matter how hard he tried to stay standoff-ish, not get too close, he couldn’t help it. Maybe it was the way that they didn’t expect anything from him. They'd told him as much one night that they stayed up talking after everyone else went to bed. (“Charles,” they giggled, “I don’t need your name. I don’t need your fearsome reputation. I don’t need your men, your ship, your money- I don’t need anything. And I don’t want it. Getting to know you,” they moved their whiskey glass to the other hand and tapped him on the shoulder, “is more than enough.” They'd gotten quiet after that, and he didn’t know what to say. He could tell they were second guessing whether or not that was a good idea, but he didn’t know how to tell them how much he needed to hear it. They gave a short nod after a couple of minutes of silence and said they hoped he slept well and they would see him in the morning. They saw him in the morning, but he hadn’t slept well.)
“It feels like hope.” The video stopped and Charles sat turning over the idea that the feeling he couldn’t quite place when they were together... it was hope. Something that he hadn’t felt in so long that he didn’t know what it was when it tapped him on the shoulder or hoped he’d slept well.
The Youtube video stopped. Max, Miranda, Jack, and Thomas wiped their eyes. James held his lovers’ hands. Anne held Max’s face. Charles just stared straight ahead... and then abruptly put his hands on his knees and pushed himself from the couch. The others watched him leave, exchanging worried glances and debating whether or not to follow him.
He knew what he had to do. So he went upstairs and knocked on the bathroom door.
“Just a second!” They pulled their towel around them, figuring it was probably just Anne telling her how mad she was that the video they suggested made her feel things. They opened the door to see Vane standing there, and if they didn’t know better they would think there might have maybe been a tear in his eye. After a second, they opened their mouth to say “Charles” but he kissed them instead. Nothing harsh, just a quick, simple kiss. Then he bowed his head, turned around, and walked away. They stood there, mouth open, not quite sure what had just happened.
“Annnnnnnnnne!” They yelled downstairs, hoping that Anne knew what was going on with her captain. She knew him probably better than Jack considering how they were almost the same person.
“What,” Anne huffed out when she reached the bathroom, clearly grumpy at being pulled from Max.
“Charles just... I opened the door and he... he kissed me,” they said with a confused look.
Anne stared at them for a second before cracking as close to a smile as Anne Bonny can manage. “Finally.”
They shook their head and blinked. “What.”
Anne just facepalmed and walked away.
They closed the door, wrapping their towel around her more tightly to try and process what happened. He kissed them. He actually did it. Holy shit. H o l y shit. They had to find him.
Throwing on some clothes, they raced out of the bathroom and down the stairs. The living room crew just watched them go, stepping outside and stopping just short of Charles’s back. They watched as they reached out for his arm, watched as he slowly turned around, and watched as they took his face in her hands and gave him a quick kiss. Then they watched them turn around and run back inside and up the stairs to dry their hair, laughing at the bemused look on Vane’s face and swearing they’d seen a small smile on theirs.
They quickly focused their attention back on each other as he walked back inside and passed them to go up the stairs.
They already had the hair dryer out, so they barely heard the knock at the door. Again, expecting Anne to tease them for what just happened, they opened it to see Charles on the other side. They clicked the hair dryer off and they took a second to just see each other. After a minute he reached for the hair dryer and asked, “May I?”
They nodded and passed it to him, settling in on the floor between his legs as he sifted his fingers through their hair and they felt the hot air on the back of their head. They noticed that he was careful not to keep the hair dryer in one place for too long, likely for the sake of his own fingers as much as their head, but they appreciated it anyway. After a couple of minutes they pulled the book they'd brought with them from the counter and started to read while Charles dried their hair, occasionally planting small kisses on the side of thier head, making them smile and curl into a ball.
And for the first time in a long time, they both felt hope.

hi! i just found your blog and i was amazed by your prompts list and it was very, VERY hard for me to decide on a number, but after all I picked 57. "Stop laughing. For once in your life, take this seriously.”
i would like it to be fred and maybe a slytherin reader, where the reader is obsessed to have things her way and want everything to be done perfectly, but yk, fred likes to let things go with the flow and after a while she snaps.
lots of love ❤️
Hi!! I’m so sorry that this got swept up in the time right before I started school. This semester was a lot more work than I thought it would be.
That aside I hope you like this! It’s short but sweet I think.
Tumblr media
Lighten Up?
“Okay let’s run that play one more time everyone!” You call over the side conversations currently taking place on the quidditch pitch as people land.
“This is the third time we’ve run it!” Crabe complains, a few people groaning in agreement.
“And would you look at that, it’s still sloppy. So stop complaining and run. it. again.” You enunciated the last words so they know it’s not up for debate.
“I never thought I would miss Flint being captain.” The voice is so quiet you can’t tell who it comes from but it makes a knot form in your stomach. Slytherin was actually close to winning the cup. Closer than they have ever been with Flint as Captain.
The rest of practice passed without anymore comments. Instead of heading to the locker room as you normally would after dismissing everyone, you trudged back up to the castle with your broom and uniform still on. Deciding to just change when you got back to your dorm instead of having to face anymore teasing from the team.
It really shouldn’t be affecting you this much and you know that but your way of practicing is working. But the fact that it might be upsetting your teammates does rub you the wrong way. Sure you may be stubborn but you never want to be seen as cruel or domineering.
Your bad mood followed you around for a couple days. Constantly going over ways to address the issue with the team and how you can fix it with keeping them on the current winning streak.
“Okay whats up?” Your boyfriend, Fred, asks in a small voice.
“Nothing. It’s fine.” You huff back.
“No somethings up. This is like the fifth time you’ve sighed in just as many minutes. I know whatever you're reading isn’t that awful.” He nudges your side and gets closer. “So what’s wrong?”
That’s when you just let it all out. How stressed you’ve been over this comment. How you’ve been wondering if they want another captain, or would even be better off with another captain.
“I know I can be picky. But the ideas that I’ve come up with are working. Like we actually seem like a team instead of just a bunch of showoffs wearing the same colors.”
“I mean. It’s not much worse than the things Wood had us do.” Fred comforts you.
“Oh and that makes me feel so much better. Everyone hated Wood.”
Fred lets out a small chuckle. “Exactly so you can’t be any worse than that.”
“I feel like I am.” You cross your arms and lean back.You feel a small bubble of shame start to creep up in your chest but he doesn’t seem to notice.
“I mean, I can’t completely blame them for being upset. In their minds it’s probably good enough. And you do have the tendency to be a stickler about that type of stuff.” He pokes your side. Not realizing that you’ve started to sink into yourself a little bit.
“At least you don’t make them practice when the weathers bad. Or god forbid, get mad at someone when they fall off their broom” He laughs loudly at the inside joke. “But hey, give it a little bit and who knows, maybe you’d give Wood a run for this money.”
That’s when you’d have enough. Normally Fred’s words act like a balm to calm you down but this was not the time for his jokes.
“Stop laughing. For once in your life take something seriously.” your voice breaks ever so slightly trying to hold back the tears. You know deep down they're irrational but right now you can’t help it. Seeing Fred making jokes about something that has been bothering you this much hurt in a new way.
For the first time, a look you could call serious crosses his face and small lines form on his forehead. Sniffling, you turn away from him, not wanting him to see the few tears that have managed to escape. He utters a silent “Oh” and you feel him get up from the chair that you are currently sharing. The thought of him just walking away makes you want to start crying harder and almost makes you before you see him in front of you, crouched down so he’s looking you right in the eyes.
“Hey. I’m sorry.” He puts a hand under your chin and makes you pick your head up. “I didn’t realize it was that big of a deal. I should have been more sensitive.” You give a small sniffle and a tiny nod. Feeling a little tinge of guilt at how bad you know he feels.
“It’s okay. I just needed to let that out I think.” He nods back.
“Here. How about we go down to the kitchen and grab some..” He pauses, raising an eyebrow to you.
“Cookies? The double chocolate chips ones?” You say, perking up instantly.
Fred laughs at your eagerness and places a small kiss on your forehead before standing and offering you a hand. That’s what you love about this man so much. Sure he’s not perfect but you didn’t need him to be. He’s always there to ground you when you start to get too carried away and vice versa.

TODOROKI, BAKUGOU, MIDORIYA AND IIDA PLAYING MINECRAFT WITH THEIR S/O (PLUS MIRIO TOGATA)
Tumblr media
SHOTO TODOROKI
— doesn’t understand a single thing but still plays because you do
— he spawned into the world and moved two spaces
— he fell into a cave and survived
— then died because a cave spider attacked him
— “That’s rough buddy.”
— He’s one of those people who mines straight down and finds a whole bunch of diamonds
— “What are these light blue things in the stones?”
— “It’s an ore for a gem. You mine them and you get diamonds or emeralds. Is it like a really light blue?”
— you’re on like the other side of the cave you both went into so you can’t go over and mine them with a certain pickaxe you made specifically for mining
— you’re pissed because you always struggle to find them and here he is breaking the first rule of Minecraft and finding them
— jerk
— “So I should just get rid of them?”
— “Well I mean—“
— he throws them in lava and they make that burning “sss” sound and you just slowly look up at him from your screen
— “Shoto...what did you do with the diamonds?”
— he kinda just “oops” from his side of the room and you just rub your hands over your face and sigh
— “Oh god I’m in for a rude awakening.”
— he makes an underground farm and house and has collected sea lanterns as lights
— has collected all the diamonds in the world I’m not even kidding he just followed your rule of mining them with the gem pickaxe and diddly doo went off
— “This world sucks there are no diamonds.”
— “Oh I have some in the chest by my crafting table.”
— it’s literally a large chest and it’s full of diamonds
— like STACKS 64 DIAMONDS ALL TOGETHER
— you are just shook
— “sHOTO HOW—“
— lives in the side of a mountain too it’s actually kinda cute cause he used like stairs as chairs and stuff
— unless y’all are playing with some type of mod that allows chairs then other than that pfft your little “house” is decked out just like his bedroom
— your Minecraft beds are right next to each other too
— he thinks it’s romantic
— kinda looks more like an apartment lmaoo
— he’s more of a peaceful Minecraft player but he can survive survival mode if being asked to play
Tumblr media

The Howl of the Moon - Remus Lupin
Summary:
After a terrible accident in the battle at the Ministry in 1995, Hermione Granger wins a one-way ticket to the past. Unable to go back to his time, his only chance for survival is to adapt to the late 70s and get on with his life, interfering as little as possible so that the future does not fall apart.
However, everything goes downhill when Remus John Lupine starts to notice too much the new girl who clearly wanted to go unnoticed by Hogwarts.
Chapters: Prolog | One | Two | Three | Four | Five | Six | Seven
Warnings: mature
                                        4.The one of the birthday
Anyway, March had arrived!
It was less than three months to the end of school, but it also meant that nearly a month had passed since the Valentine's Day disaster. I mean, disaster in parts and just for a few people, as James and Lily couldn't be happier in their passionate bubble, not to mention the redhead wouldn't give up on the idea that Remus and Granger were a potential couple, they couldn't be still, but if it were up to her the four would soon have a double date! It had taken at least four days for Hermione to speak fearlessly to Remus again, and at least a week for Remus to stop treating Lilly with vengeful indifference, which unfortunately for them had only reinforced the absurd idea of a possible crush even further. in Lily's head.
So the ninth of March had arrived and with it the eighteen years of Remus! Unfortunately, it fell on the first day of the full moon, but luckily they would have a total eclipse that night, which meant…
- PARTY AT THE SHRIEKING SHACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A night just among the marauders, completely free of a curious and violent werewolf breaking free and running across the school grounds. Despite loathing the lunar cycle, Remus Lupine loved eclipses. When an eclipse was in the sky, Moony fell asleep inside him practically disappearing, making the wizard feel completely human - if only for a few hours.
No naughty whispers, no chocolate stuff, and no sharp senses!
Just him, a somewhat shy, scarred teenager who allowed himself to live a little.
Although the party was only later, none of them had shown up for dinner in the great hall that night - which in itself had been reason enough to make Minerva's hair stand on end. Everyone knows that professors love to gossip about students' lives and this was no different at Hogwarts, so of course Professor McGonagall had noticed the closeness between Jean and Remus during tutoring. So with the excuse of asking Miss Granger to try to stop any potential madness the marauders were planning, he called the student into his office as soon as she had finished her dinner:
- Oh, is today his birthday?
- Naturally, that's why I imagine he and his roommates are up to it like a Bunch of Silly Baboons.
Hermione, for her part, couldn't hide her laughter, she still remembered the dance lessons she had taken in fourth year for the Winter Ball where Minerva had made that same criticism of the Gryffindor students. So the girl wondered if the marauders had been the first to hear such endearing adjectives. The older witch seeing the student's laugh also smiled.
- I see that you have become very close to Mr. Lupin, a fine boy, I must say.
- Teacher, I'm not for that much… We are a good pair… Working! I mean, we work well together, in monitoring! - She replied embarrassed, wanting to run away from the subject as she was running from Lilian.
- Honey, don't waste the opportunities that Cupid presents to you. - And suddenly the teacher's eyes became very melancholy and hurt. - I once met a young witch as promising as you. Extremely intelligent and dedicated to studies. She met a guy who shared her same sense of humor, he was the only one who could debate as fiercely and passionately as she… Before the girl knew he was on his knees proposing marriage and she accepted. The teacher's melancholy smile was more than enough for Hermione to know that it wasn't just any student's story she was telling.
- Teacher despite whatever my heart dares to feel. And I don't say he feels anything about the matter of Mr Lupcough cough.” He coughed uncomfortable with everything the teacher was inferring. - Well what I mean is that under the circumstances in which I find myself… The way I came here. I couldn't… I simply wouldn't dare. I mean, it's too risky!
- And what I mean, Jean is that I don't want that story to repeat itself. Like you, she had a thousand and one very plausible and rational reasons to break off the engagement what she did. However, when she realized that as far as the heart, love, or even mere affection and camaraderie were concerned, it was not rationality that should have been heard, it was too late!
Hermione didn't know how to respond, despite all her embarrassment with Lily on Valentine's Day she had never looked at Remus in that way! Yes they were good friends, got along well together and could talk about anything for hours and hours. Of course she found his shy way cute in an adorable way like a needy pet, and she sure enjoyed Lupine's chocolate addiction, but she never looked at him as anything other than a housemate. By Merlin, she often had to remember that he wasn't her teacher but a teenager like her! But love, affection?
   Seeing that the student was clearly confused, Minerva turned away from the subject and went back to inquiring about the possible pranks the Gryffindor quartet might be planning. But if even Jean didn't know what they were up to, McGonagall could only hope that Bunch of Silly Baboons Baboons didn't do any damage to her school! Dismissing the student right away, stating that she needed to correct some parchments for the next transfiguration class for sophomores.
   Hermione, still shaken by the previous conversation, left, but soon stopped at the door, turning hesitantly towards the teacher.
- Teacher… If I may ask. What happened to your student and the guy she turned down?
- Naturally they went their separate ways. I understand she has taken on an important position in the ministry of magic. And he... found a new someone to love...
- I… I'm sorry teacher.
- Me too, Jean, but it's late now. Go back to the dorm if I won't be forced to give you detention. - The teacher joked, but Hermione couldn't help but hear the melancholy tone in the witch's words.
* * *
Contrary to what Minerva thought, the only damage the quartet would do would be to their own bodies. Come on, it was Lupine's birthday and more than that it was his night of sobriety about the wolf that shared his body! It was obvious that they would get drunk until tomorrow!
The four met on the second floor of the screaming house near eight-thirty at night, with them having prepared a nice little party for their werewolf friend: lots of fire whiskey, a chocolate cake, butterbeer, thousands of sweets from Fingers of Honey not to mention a mini feast smuggled straight from the kitchen of Hogwarts, after all the house elves adored James and Sirius. And of course a small bottle of water - since Peter liked to hydrate between a glass and another - the only sensible one in the group that night. All three were moved by the birthday boy's happiness, noticing how the daily weight had disappeared from Remus' back, being ridiculously lighter.
- And what are we waiting for? - With that sentence James started the night's celebrations.
Drinks over there, cakes over here when they saw it, it was past ten at night and everyone was irrevocably drunk. It had been at least six glasses of whiskey for Sirius, with Remus finishing up his fifth - which was already more than a little more than ideas after three bottles of butterbeer.
- Does Audrey know the reason for her disappearance, Peter? - James asked as he chewed on a chicken leg.
- Just I was celebrating the birthday of one of you.
Audrey Flint was the Slytherin who had sent Peter the little Valentine's card, and who had surprisingly been dating her ever since.
- Remus, even Peter has a girlfriend. When are you going to get one? You know I don't care about gender as long as he or she knows that marauders are their priority! - Sirius asked, nudging the werewolf beside him.
"Lily said it won't be long before he and Granger assume something." - James delivered his girlfriend.
- That's not it! Jean and I are just... friends? - Remus asked embarrassed, but at the mention of Jean rather than the clear questioning of his partner preferences. The truth is, Lupine didn't know if he was in the position of Granger's friends or colleagues at that point in the championship. The relationship was weird since Valentine's Day, at times it seemed that nothing had changed while at others Moony was a real busybody!
- If even that you know what they are. It's definitely lost!
- If they're not friends they can definitely be something else. - Peter nudged, liking the way Remus was starting to turn red and bewildered.
"The way you treated Lily after Valentine's Day just shows how much you're into her, Remus." - James insisted.
- No, no, NO! - Remus managed to deny it. - You got it all wrong! Jean and I would never work, you know I can't….
- I bet you're denying it like that because you don't know how to kiss. - Peter threw more wood into the fire.
- Of course I know how to kiss! - Remus was insulted.
That was partly true, as she'd had her first kiss two years earlier, also in an eclipse, when she'd allowed herself to experience a kiss that night. It had been at a Gryffindor party and had been no more than a smacking of lips, and since then he'd never come close to anyone else's mouth.
- A little kiss does not count as knowing how to kiss! - Sirius accused his friend, turning to him.
- And how do you expect me to learn then?! You know I don't…
Sirius didn't let his colleague finish, with a roguish grin he pulled Remus' neck towards him.
- Like this. - Whispered in his friend's ear, having fun when he saw the same shiver, approaching his body more and more.
In a second their lips were joined, with Black initiating an agitated kiss. He knew his friend had no experience, he had the vague memory in his drunken memory of Lupin describing how shameful and awkward that peck had been two years ago - so it had started slowly, but not having much patience and being clearly upset, he deepened the kiss without blinking. Then he opened his mouth hungrily, forcing his tongue against Remus' mouth, who surprisingly had given way and not only that, but was also trying to match his roommate's reckless rhythm.
After all, if it was in the rain, it was to get wet!
Mimicking Sirius' movements, Remus also held the brunet's neck possessively, intensifying the movements of his lips - adrenaline rushing through him. Their tongues tangled and wrestled and caressed, all to the sound of Peter's laughter and the shocked spit of James who had just put another glass of whiskey in his mouth when his friends began kissing furiously. It wasn't his fault he got scared and spit it all out at Peter!
But just as slowly as it started, the kiss ended.
- See if you learn and do it right with Granger. Sirius fixed his hair. - And if she doesn't want to, I'll always be here for you, monny! - He stated provocatively as he turned another glass.
- At least she won't have a beard itching. - Remus implied joining in the joke. - Can you tell me how you're still alone?
- There is no woman for me at Hogwarts. - Sirius declared, just like Xuxa Meneghel, where there were no men for her in Brazil.
* * *
All marauders were completely rotten, miserable, destroyed and finished.
All but Peter, who wisely interspersed the whiskey with generous doses of water, being the one who drank the least at the party - having a preference for chocolate cake. Sirius was down on the infirmary (he had the greatest resistance to alcohol, but even he overreacted); James was clinging to the toilet in Gryffindor, Peter was cheerful and bouncy with his Audrey, while Remus exploded with a headache. His eyes were sunken, his head seemed to be being poked by five drills as runaway ambulances pulled up to his ear - all with Moony barking furiously at being repelled last night by the "unnatural and evil" eclipse (words of the Wolf).
At least her swollen system from Moony's presence had minimized the seasickness effects, but the migraine remained like a sledgehammer on an anvil.
A bad mood had irrevocably seized Lupin. From the first dawn of the day Remus was IM-PRA-TI-Cable, being almost the human and rabid version of Moony, threatening to stupefy the next one who made noise in front of him. At least in the morning, since after lunch the sobriety potions began to take effect, turning him once again into a Pomeranian lulu and no longer a rabid pinscher.
At least that afternoon he could rest peacefully, as no one even went to the prefects! His plan was a quiet, undisturbed nap!
"You know, you might as well practice those licks with Jean, instead of pretending to be lazy" - Moony spoke like someone who didn't want anything when they were alone, going to the prefect.
- Licks…? - Remus was confused.
But Moony was prepared for that, immediately projecting memories of the night before - causing Remus to trip over his own feet at the sight and feel of Sirius' mouth and beard against his face.
THEY HAD DONE WHAT?!
“Nothing against what you prefer, but I think Jean more…. intriguing"
- Remus? Is everything OK? - Hermione asked after noticing the pale state that the ex-teacher arrived in the transfiguration room.
And it was when Remus' eyes focused on the girl that his face went up in flames, still moved by Moony's suggestion. THAT MEDDING WOLF!
"Just slightly drunk…" He replied, crawling to his seat, sitting down comfortably while putting his backpack as a pillow.
- Drunk?! I don't think Minerva was counting on it! - She laughed.
- Are you her new spy, Jean? Before it was Lily who was our probation officer. Befriended me just to watch over James and Sirius? - Remus joked, settling into his wallet.
- I don't know if that was her real intention, but it felt like it to me last night when she called me in her office to talk about... How did she say? Ah yes, "silly baboons babbling in a pack"!.
- There is! Professor Minerva has always been the most creative at Hogwarts! - The witcher laughed, soon regretting it when his head began to throb again and he moaned in discontent.
- What made you drunk so far?
- I had a birthday.
- Congratulations? Hermione asked, undecided by the deplorable state of the boy beside her.
He nodded gratefully, then tucked his head back into his backpack.
- Thanks, but would you mind holding the butts without me today? I put up with all day waiting for that nap.
Hermione just nodded, patting her light brown hair in congratulation, not seeing Moony squirm happily in the mind of Remus, a real needy puppy.
However, just that day, a living being appeared at the monitor in search of clearing up his doubts about the last transfiguration class of the seventh year, regretting it the moment he saw who was the monitor of his class.
Severus Snape would not stoop to the point of asking one of the marauders what things, no matter how trivial! Even though the rascal in question was almost drooling over his backpack by now.
- Can I help you? Hermione asked, noticing Snape's intention to turn around and leave.
- Do you know the content of the seventh year or just this wolf project? - Asked mockingly as he indicated with his chin the Gryffindor passed out.
- You'd be surprised what I know. - Retorted defiantly. She had almost changed her mind when Severus implied knowing that Remus was a wolf, but quickly remembered that he had almost died because of Remus, or rather because of Sirius who played a more than unfortunate prank on the Slytherin. His challenge did not find deaf ears.
Threat, warning, knowledge and... flirting? The girl's challenge reached every possible sense, although Severus very much doubted the latter.
Well, Snape had a mirror in the bedroom, and even if he didn't, he was reminded of his questionable appearance all the time. Jean might have publicly rejected Sirius Black, but he would never look at someone like him, so there was no chance of it being a lame excuse to kiss in the nearest broom closet - although the idea was not repulsive to him, and well he even thought it was Very pretty.
Hermione thought he must be very desperate to actually accept her help, after all she was a year younger, muggleborn (not that he knew of) and Gryffindor. She actually thought he would refuse her help because she was a Gryffindor, but here he was snorting discontent as he sat at a desk and indicated the chair across from him an unquestionable invitation.
At the end of it all Snape had been impressed by how smart the girl was. He suspected even more than that drooling Siberian husky snoring a few wallets away. But Severus' joy was short-lived, as in the middle of the explanation another individual immensely more undesirable than the slime project sprang up in the classroom.
- HEY, SNOTTY! WHAT ARE YOU DOING NEAR HER?! - Sirius forgot his hangover to make trouble in defense of the girl one of his best friends was clearly interested in, waking Remus in the process.
- I don't see your name on it, Black! Snape shot back, making Hermione arch an eyebrow. Since when has she become a reason for egos?
Indifferent on the outside, but laughing on the inside, Hermione allowed herself to agree that that tirade had been good, very good. Maybe even enough to forget one or two reprimands Snape had given him in the future.
Was Sirius this annoying always? If she ever made it back, she wouldn't stop complaining to Harry about her friend's godfather's impossible behavior at school.
- What makes you think you can come here, snotty?! Get closer to us….
- As far as I know, here is a classroom at Hogwarts, in pre-service time for the transfiguration subject.
- If you have any doubts, ask someone of your level. - Sneered.
Hermione was terribly offended. He had called her stupid, for being a year younger! But she soon realized that it would make more sense that Sirius was referring to the fact that it wasn't a death eater project. Or something like this?
- I would, but the creature in question is sleeping during working hours. Should I report this slip to Professor McGonagall?
Sirius even managed to pull out his wand and cast a spell, but Hermione was quicker and threw a stream of water at him.
- Unpleasant. I hate the smell of wet dogs. - Snape teased once more.
- ENOUGH! - He interfered by talking to both of them. - What are you doing here, Black?
- Is it forbidden to visit my friends now?!
- That's when he threatens another student!
- You mean you agree that you are my friend! - He wasted no time, giving a wink being promptly responded with another jet of water.
- If you do not mind? - She said turning to Severus who kept his victorious smile in front of the soaked Gryffindor. - Would you like us to finish our monitoring elsewhere? Hermione asked Snape, who readily agreed, following the short-haired girl to the library. Where she had a private class in the subject, at least as far as Jean knew, after all she was a year younger, as much as she knew a lot about seventh grade content, that wasn't all. Surprisingly the Slytherin completed the gaps without any mockery or contempt for her making the time together really enjoyable.
Confused, Remus watched the girl depart with the stateroom Slytherin, confused and somewhat irritated with Sirius for making her leave.
- I think it's better you do it right with her! - Sirius warned him. - Or sooner or later she may fall for that venomous snake's tricks! Or better yet, in my charms! - He joked.
- Padfoot, she is more likely to date Snape than to date you, I would say until she marries him and has five children and eighteen cats. - Remus chuckled, relieved the kiss between them hadn't been a big deal.
Just brother's things, you know!
- Since you are missing the magnificent chance to be with me, I say with propriety, from someone who has a lot of experience, that you have more chances than him.
- Chances of what? She's just a friend, coworker at best. Besides, she's afraid of canines.
- Well… that's bad for both of us, Moony. - Sirius spoke to the werewolf, who just sighed in Remus' mind.
“I wish I were a fish…”

Can you do one where not everyone is fine with Forlex and it's starting to get to Alex until he can't take it and speaks his mind. Kyle is the supportive best friend. You can take it any direction you'd like.
***
Alex had a migraine. It had been there for weeks, but with every waking moment, it was getting worse and worse, especially when he picked up his phone, or spotted a familiar face at the Crashdown, or stepped into the Wild Pony thinking this would finally be the night he got to enjoy himself and not worry about anything. He was always wrong. The migraine always got a little worse, his nerves always a little more frayed, his patience a little more waned.
Alex slid onto a stool at his kitchen counter and poured himself a mug of coffee. He breathed in the chocolate scent and a smile tugged at his lips. They were fewer these days, his smiles, but they felt more real than any of the others in the recent past had been.
He thought of Forrest at the grocery market, piling up the cart with boxes of hot chocolate packets.
               “That can’t be good for you,” Alex had said on their latest trip.
               “How many hot chocolate coffees are you having in a day?” Forrest had argued back before throwing in another two boxes and making Alex laugh in the middle of the dessert isle. “Exactly. You have to have something to look forward to every morning.”
               I look forward to you, Alex had almost said back. The memory now made him blush.
               He reached over and turned on a vinyl record, something by some old French singer that Forrest had gladly leant him a few days ago (“If I haven’t introduced you to Édith Piaf,” he’d said with all seriousness, “I have not been a good boyfriend”), and took a sip from his mug. As the song played, Alex melted into his seat, his elbows on the counter, the warm cup in his hands, chasing away the chill from his entire body. But it wasn’t just the coffee or the French music, he knew, that was giving him such comfort. It was the thought of Forrest.
               Forrest here, swaying gently to the song so as not to spill from his own mug, smiling warmly at Alex as if the airman was a treasure he still couldn’t believe he’d found. Forrest would round the counter, setting his coffee down before reaching out for Alex’s hand. Alex would laugh and Forrest would tug him to his feet and they would slow dance around his kitchen. Only until the song ended, only for a short moment in time, but it would make Alex’s morning.
               He would return to base feeling like he’d just had a vacation away with his boyfriend, feeling like maybe nothing was so bad after all, all because he and Forrest had danced together.
Then the doorbell rang and Alex’s eyes fell shut, the sound cutting through the scene of himself and Forrest like an ax to a log.
He let the visitor wait outside while he took another, steady sip. He was sure he was going to need his strength when he answered. Finally, and with a deep sigh, Alex pushed himself off his seat and went to open the door.
He was not the slightest bit surprised to find Maria standing there, her arms crossed.
“You’ve been avoiding me,” she said in lieu of a greeting.
“Good morning to you, too.”
               “You cancelled our plans,” she accused him again.
               “Please,” Alex sighed, turning his back on her, “do come in.”
               “Why would you do that?” Maria asked as she followed him inside and shut the door behind her. “And did you really think you could do it over the phone and it’d be okay?”
               “Coffee?” Alex offered dryly as he took his seat again, curling his fingers around his mug, but it was no use. The warmth and simple pleasure of the morning was gone, replaced by the same weary, migraine-inducing chill that had been haunting him the past two months.
               Maria stood by the door, unimpressed. “Would you talk to me, please?”
               Alex took another sip, hoping the wait would be enough to get her to leave. It pained him to think that. He couldn’t remember the last time he wanted Maria to go away, but it seemed like the past year had been just that. First because of Michael, and now because of Forrest. He wondered when he would find a man that Maria didn’t have anything to say about.
               It doesn’t matter, he reasoned. I like Forrest too much now to think of giving him up, no matter who dislikes it.
               “So this is it now?” Maria asked, coming around to sit across him from the counter, her fingers interlocked. “You’re just going to give me the silent treatment until I leave?”
               “I’m not giving you the silent treatment, Maria,” Alex said wearily. “I just don’t know what to say to you anymore.”
He was so tired, and so tired of being tired, and so tired that his friends always seemed to be the reason he was so tired. There was another thing he couldn’t remember; the last time he felt like he could talk to either Liz or Maria about anything without worrying that their answer would make him feel worse.
Oddly enough, Alex thought that moment of something Michael had told him a few years ago. We’ve been holding onto this thing! And it’s gotten us nowhere!
Maybe Alex was holding on to the friends he had when he was seventeen. Maybe he’d changed too much to be that kind of friend again.
Maria pressed her lips together and nodded slowly, as if they were in an office building and someone was bringing up an offer she didn’t like, but also didn’t want to outright disagree with so as not to cause conflict. It was a tactic Alex recognized from Flint and Clay, whenever they wanted him to do something as a kid but wanted him to believe he’d made the decision himself.
“Okay,” she said diplomatically, and already, Alex could feel his fingers involuntarily tighten on his mug. “Okay, I hear you. I get it. You don’t like what I have to say about Forrest –”
“No, I don’t, glad that’s cleared up,” he said, the warning in his voice evident to his own ears.
“But,” she persisted and Alex closed his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose, “I think if you hear me out, you’ll see why I don’t think he’s –”
“Maria,” he said through grit teeth before he could help himself. “This isn’t a freaking debate, it’s my life. I’m not going to go over pros and cons with you. I like Forrest, he’s my boyfriend, I want him to stay my boyfriend, end of story.”
“But I –”
“And weren’t you the one that was eager for us to get together in the first place?”
“Well, yeah, but I –” then she huffed a laugh as if there was anything funny about this conversation. As if Alex even had it in him to laugh with her anymore. “You know, I thought you’d like to have some fun for a while, but this thing with Forrest has been going on for months –”
“No, let me tell you what you thought,” Alex snapped. “You felt guilty for going after Guerin, so you thought that if I hooked up with someone, it would make it easier for you.”
Maria stared. “I’m not like that.”
“Yes, you are,” Alex said sadly. Because it was sad. “This is my fault. I let too much off the hook, Maria, so you never had to deal with me getting angry, you never had to deal with our friendship as messed up as it is now. But I’ve felt it, for the past year, and I never said anything because I kept hoping you would get it on your own.
“And now – now? – I ignore Michael’s calls at night, and I don’t ditch my dates to go help him whenever he needs it, and I don’t let him in when he’s drunk, and he’s miserable. And you thought that if I would only break up with Forrest, then at least Guerin would be happy again, and you wouldn’t feel like you finally had to take some responsibility for being with a man you knew didn’t love you like he loved your best friend.”
Maria looked angry, her eyes glistening with tears, but Alex wasn’t done just yet. Because he’d been hurting, too, and he’d suffered and kept quiet for the sake of his friends. And now, they couldn’t even do the same for him.
“Alex –”
“No, I am not finished yet,” he said firmly, setting his mug down roughly on the counter. When Maria remained silent, he went on, “You thought I would have fun?” he scoffed. “So did I. I should be enjoying brunches with Forrest, and going to amusement parks, and spending nights in together, but I can’t do that, because every time, I get a text. Or a call. Or you show up at our table to pull me away, and ask me when I think I’ll be ending this thing now with Forrest. And every time, I have to make sure he doesn’t see or hear or know. I haven’t gotten to enjoy anything for long because of you.”
He huffed, a lump forming in his throat. When he spoke again, his voice was quiet. “When you told me you were with Guerin, it was the worst day of my life. Don’t pretend you know what that feels like because you don’t. To this day, I still can’t believe you considered going after him.”
“But you said –”
“Yeah,” he breathed miserably, and Maria fell short. “I said. I lied.” He shook his head. “The fact that you had even asked me. . . . And I loved you. What did you want me to say?”
He took a deep breath, exhaled shakily, straightened his back, and fixed her with a cool glare. “So now, you’re going to return the favor. No more talks about Forrest, no more calls about Guerin, no more visits like this. You either respect my boyfriend like a friend should, or don’t bother coming by again.”
Maria’s brows furrowed as a tear fell down her cheek. “You’re choosing your boyfriend over me?”
“No,” Alex said simply. “I’m choosing me.”
And she looked so stunned at the response, as if she hadn’t realized the damage she had done to him, to their friendship, that Alex knew there was nothing left to say.
Slowly, Maria slid out of her stool and turned to leave. Alex heard his front door open and close, and he went back to sipping his coffee, Édith Piaf playing in the background, imagining himself and Forrest once again, dancing in his kitchen.
***
I’m sorry if it’s not what you imagined, and I did forget to include Kyle, but I’ll write another one-shot where he’s being super supportive, I promise.
This was really cathartic for me, I’m not going to lie 😂 It helped me get some things out. I’m so happy at the number of forlex prompts I got, there are so many! I really want people supporting and loving forlex, so I will do my best to write as many pieces on them as I can. Still working on the forlex merman au, but in the time I’m not working on that, I will be doing the prompt requests.
I also really just want to sketch Alex and Forrest sitting at a cafe in Paris now 💙🌼

Hi! I was wondering if you could could do bakugo with a depressed and self-harming s/o? Shes trying so hard not to do but it was one of those days that the urge was almost impossible to ignore? Sorry if its too dark, i just feel this very mood rn. Sorry to bother you and i love your work ❤️💕
This would never bother me love. Please feel free to message me should you need me. You have my full support and I will always help you to my best abilities.
MAJOR TRIGGER WARNING FOR SELF HARM PLEASE DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOU'LL LOSE THE BATTLE. I KNOW YOU ARE STRONG YOU CAN DO THIS.
It sat on your shoulder, weighing down on your mind, body and soul. Wispy fingers digging into flesh as it peers over you too curious for it's own good.
It smiles a jagged tooth smile as it sees what has your heart and mind racing so erratically. It morphs all on it's own as you stare at the 34% written in blotchy red ink and it seems to whisper with a gravely voice.
*"Worthless."*
You twist at your skin on your forearms agitating old scars that burn to be reopened and picked over for the next few weeks. Your forearm reddens from the Indian burn you're giving yourself all the while your mind stays on a dark loop. Repeating things over and over as you try to understand this failing grade.
As you try to wrap your mind around how in the hell could this be your fifth one in a row.
You were going to fucking flunk, you were going to have to say good bye to your dreams, to all of your aspirations as a hero. You thought you might as well go back to the dorms and start packing now as you proved to yourself exactly what you've always known and exactly what it's always breathed down the nape of your neck.
*"Not good enough."*
The skin begins to bloom in blues and purples, much like a moody flower as you're absorbed in thought trying to break the cycle of it.
Trying to ignore the call of old burns on your ribs from your friends curling iron, trying so damn hard to not hear that the school is teaming with sharp objects to slice yourself with.
So absorbed really that you do not hear the bell dismissing school, only the rushing blood in your ears.
Oblivious to the burning eyes that watch your hand work, that have seen the scars in training but would never be shameless enough to ask.
He figured it out quickly, noticing with deft eyes the neatly set rows of dated scars, of their organization and as far as he knew you had never been captured.
A strong hand wraps around the wrist that has been twisting the past hour.
"Enough. It's just a grade. I'll help you study." All biting voice as his vice grip dies down. He has your backpack on what is normally his free shoulder. You blush furiously, feeling shame heat your cheeks as you hadn't realized you were being so obvious.
"Let's go Y/LN!" He shouts now from the door trying to keep the bite out of his voice.
He fails as the chair scrapes against the cold linoleum. He bites his lip waiting for you to fall into step.
The walk home is silent and awkward at best. Embarrassment creeps in reddish hues onto your cheeks as you think of who else may have seen you.
Who else noticed your unstable mind and insecure actions?
The thought has you subconsciously twisting again as thoughts swirl faster and faster as they think of what will relieve the tension.
Did you have any more razors? Surely one of the girls did, if not the corner store.
But did you have the extra cash?
As you rack your brain for either a hidden stash of instruments or cash it hits you. You had that lighter your stole ages ago. It only took 70 seconds for a burn to form. 70 agonizingly lovely seconds for your skin to warp and bubble until the pain was so numbing you felt your body go slack. Your brain finally giving you endorphins you so thoroughly craved.
And the best part about a burn is that it would hurt for weeks after, and especially so any time you introduced it to hear. Skin jaded from its previous encounter with unpleasantly warm.
Just as your nails begin to break skin a calloused hand has gripped your wrist once more. Hand slipping into yours while intertwining fingers in a bone crushing grip.
"Whatever it is you're thinking. You better not." Its a threat that actually scares you.
How had he read your mind? You swallow thickly while trying not to look any more suspicious under his exceptionaly watchful eye.
Once the two of you reach the dorm he squeezes your hand tightly, slipping your back onto your shoulder before growling in your ear.
"Whenever you feel...down you come to me." His voice is darker than you've ever heard before he lets go of your hand waltzing into the dorms.
Days pass with the single thought of painful released flooding your system.
Anytime you reached for your lighter you thought of burning red eyes.
Of the wraith that would be looming in them.
Of the disappointment.
You gulp down air as you try to fight it especially now that the inanimate object seems to have gained a voice.
A voice that echos what the wispy black beast that hangs onto your back screams in your ear.
*"Do it. Do it. DO IT!"*
It said it every time you were in the shower and around razor heads lying around, screeched when it saw the sharp edge of a broken tile in the bathroom. It yelled it during practice as you watched Todoroki's flame lick greedily at the ground, at the walls of the fake city.
Dancing in the sunlight as if it were a savior, calling out to be caressed as the paint beneath bubbled and warped.
Your fingers had reached out. Had begun to feel the heat.
Until you were so selfishly ripped away by strong hands and heated scarlet eyes.
Shoving you to continue the mission.
It took on new words now as you reached for your box in your closet. Taking down the black shoe box of sad poems and long forgotten notes from long forgotten friends.
And as you stare down at the scratched chrome rectangle, flopping open the top.
You still hear that magical sound of sloshing butane. Now you just have to hope the flint is still good. Hesitation seizes your muscles as your thumb rests on the steel wheel, is this really such a good idea?
Think of all of the people who abandoned you when they found out.
Think of the hurt shining in your parents eyes when they saw the scars littering your body, wondering what they did to make you so unhappy.
Think of how you only feel smaller when you do it.
You're about put it away, seal it back in its black converse labeled coffin when that wispy small thought you'd tried so hard to talk over is finally heard.
*"But think of how good it feels in the moment."*
With that your thumb comes fully down, the flint sparks igniting the soaked wick that now dances in the comfort of your room.
Singing its praises, asking you to come closer for a reward.
You listen, bringing your hand down slowly over the lit lighter, as the heat turns from pleasantly warm to Redding burn.
Closer still you push your palm until your skin is in the flame. Silently ticking by the seconds.
35 have passed as you're halfway there, the smell of skin is staring to waft onto the air as your skin has already become distorted, discolored as the flames lovingly leave your with a heated numbness.
At least for now.
A knock comes at the door, earning you a small yelp. Suddenly the fire has become hot, burning as you flick closed the top and drop the lighter.
"J..just a minute." You call out starring at your palm gripping at your wrist.
"Hurry up. We don't have much time to study before bed. Your retake is in two days." His voice comes out gruff starling you even more.
You hadn't asked for Bakugou's help, so why was the hot head barking on the other side of your door.
Shit.
This was getting worse by the second. With nothing to wrap your hand it you tell yourself you'll be able to hide it as you reach for the doorknob. Causing a pain to shoot from your hand all the way up to your shoulder as you force the fried nerves onto a cool surface. Twisting as you go.
Maybe it wasn't your best idea to use it on your dominate hand.
But what's done is done.
"We c...can go to the common room and study." You suggest but barges himself in anyway standing just inside your door as he thinks of the best way to avoid the landmine of clothes and books scatter across the hardwood.
"Too loud." He dismisses finding the perfect path to your desk.
The perfect path that has his boot toeing the lighter. Causing it to skid into his sight. He leans over to pick it up, feeling the warmth coming from it and finally placing the odd smell that lingers in your room.
He glares over his shoulder as your heart pounds in your throat, causing a lump to form as you see what you told yourself was going to be there.
Anger.
Disappointment.
Especially so with how neatly he sets down the test materials, stepping with precise foot steps before he stands in front of you.
Heated sugar begins to flood the room before a few uncontrolled pops ring our over his shoulders and forearms.
"What's this?" He asks calmly which scares you more than anything and when you cannot answer he notices you hiding your dominate hand.
"N..n..nothing Bakugou. I...I found it on campus and thought it looked cool. I wanted to..to keep it." You stumble with frayed nerves as you avoid his eyes, telling a half truth. You do collect odd things that you find. Thinking they bring you fortune and you did find the zippo on campus, just not this one.
He looks you over debating before he grits his teeth. Hand causing the lighter to explode.
"And then you lie to me." He comes out dark, rubbing you the wrong way as you think of all the other faces his match right now.
As you remember that they gave you their backs becoming nothing more than memories and empty promises immortalized on line paper that rots in a coffin made of a black converse box.
You cannot stop the tears as you fall to the floor. Crying loudly and openly, large droplets raining down onto your shirt and the hard wood floor.
Bakugou's own heart lodges in his throat as he stares down at you.
Per the usual fucking up how you're supposed to react.
This wasn't supportive like the internet had said. Nor was it loving.
Hell, if anything this was the exact opposite of what was advised to do. And here he stood losing his temper over something you clearly struggled with.
The worst part to him was that there was nothing he could do to change this, to alter how you feel. To stop you all together and force you into a different, more healthy coping mechanism.
No all he could was watch from the sidelines.
And Bakugou Katsuki was a starter.
He sighs sinking to his knees pulling you into him as you stain his pressed shirt. Dampen it until nothing else comes out and the numbness begins to set in.
All the while he smooths down your hair and let's his hand travel down your back in a loving warm touch. When he thinks you are done he pushes you away so he can stare into your gorgeous eyes and admits what he never thought he would.
"I can't fix this for you. I can't take it away. I cant fight it off. Kiss it away. Fuck it away. Or rip the urge from your body." He squeezes your shoulders tightly, "Only you can do that."
The two of you stay quiet as you realize the weight of his words.
"You're the only one strong enough to fight this. I can support you, I can be a shoulder to cry on, a punching bag whatever. But I can't fucking fix this for you." Another pop from his shoulders before he let's out a shaking sigh, "But I sure as fuck believe in you. You stopped once. You can stop again. As long as you keep getting back up Y/N it doesn't matter that you *ever* fell. So please....please let me help you. Let me be that shoulder, that punching back. That void you vent to."
More tears glisten in your eyes as he kisses your forehead, he pulls you back into another death grip hug, voice threatening to crack as he adds.
"Please let me help you kick this things ass."

Chapter 6: The Wrecks At Sun Down
For chapter 5: L'Urca de Lima click here.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As I followed the busy crowd, I spotted Mr. Gates and the young boatswain, Billy, standing on a balcony while they surveyed a scene with two men debating over one painting who had copied the other in an ugly way.
"FRUIT, FRUIT, TITS, TITS, PLANT.... PLANT. IT'S THE FUCKIN' SAME!"
~~~
"COME UP HERE, CAPTAIN JONES!" He shouted and waved enthusiastically at me. I waved back and instead of using the stairs from the inside, I took a shortcut and climbed my way up with the wooden pole leading to the balcony they were on. It was worth almost the fall because it didn't take me as long as it would have taken me if I walked around.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Gates and-...."
"Billy Bones." The younger man pushed himself back from the table to offer me his hand which I politely took.
"Good afternoon to you too, Billy Bones. My name is Naida." The boatswain nodded shortly and released my hand.
"I'm guessing you already know what happened?" Gates interrogated and I watched him sideways, raising one of my eyebrows before I closed my eyes for a short amount of time to indicate he was right.
"Yeah, I do.... it's hard to keep things quiet on such a curious island." I responded and noticed that Billy looked me up and down with a curious look in his eyes, no strange intentions behind it.
Something was on his mind.
"Captain Jones.... you're way kinder than the stories tell.... I doubt those rumours are real if I speak to you like this." Billy raised his voice in an uncertain tone, but still had the courage to talk about what was wandering around in his head and I appreciated it.
"Oh, Mr. Bones. Those rumours, or what ya want to call them, are real and if I'm being honest.... I'm not afraid to do it all over again. In fact I would love to use a new style of torture on that cook of yours." I kindly grinned and he immediately backed off a little, glaring at the ground. He wasn't afraid and it wasn't my intention to get him scared, but he did become more cautious about what I had answered. Mr. Gates silently laughed and Billy's alert face expression changed not long after Mr. Gates spoke up, saying he loved this town while still focusing on a not so smart captain and appraiser of Nassau arguing about the two complete unalike paintings.
"I'm sorry, weren't we supposed to be looking for the cook?" Gates watched Billy with a huge smirk on his face while Billy shrugged at me.
"We are, any luck?" Billy seemed more bothered by Mr. Gates than before and I raised an eyebrow as well.
Why was Mr. Gates sitting on the balcony all day?
Leaning over the railing, my eyes met those of the appraiser. Perhaps the cook was willing to sell the schedule, but that would betray his hiding spot.
"No, and I've looked all over. Meanwhile, you haven't moved from this stump all day." Mr. Gates stared at me silently and it appeared that he enjoyed annoying Billy.
"Billy, take a load off." I could see the young man sigh before slowly sitting down once again, his arms resting on the table. I myself sat down as well, but took a seat on the wooden railing of the balcony because there were no chairs left. The conversation between Billy and Mr. Gates was none of my business as the older man tried to make Billy feel better after lying about the page and so I switched my gaze towards the two debating men downstairs. The appraiser tried to explain that one was a beautiful masterpiece made by a famous painter and the other a copied abomination, but even so, the stubborn Captain kept his opinion. "Fruit, fruit. Tits, Tits, Plant.... plant!" I giggled to myself.
Some men on this island.
The two men behind me suddenly started a conversation about something that caught my interest very quickly and I jerked my head back.
"Flint baited him into that fight, then he killed him."
"Well, he was no saint." Billy and Mr. Gates both looked up at me and although they agreed, Billy found it hard to understand why Mr. Gates and I talked about this so easily.
"Naida is right, Singleton was no saint."
"You both are unbelievable, but that's not the point. The point is, I lied to my own crew to protect the Captain."
"That's loyalty, Bones." I wasn't the best at assuring someone, but I still felt the need to help and he was really feeling down about his actions.
"Loyalty to my Captain, not towards my crew."
"Billy, you lied to protect the crew. You saw the Scarborough, mate. You know what's coming. We can't thieve forever."
"But it would be easier if we could." Billy grinned at my comment, but brought himself back to earth as soon as Mr. Gates hit me with his elbow.
"Flint said that we need a king." The boatswain sounded very concerned.
Flint wanted to be king?
Well, let's see how long it takes for him to discover that he has competition all battling for that title.
I jumped off the railing and approached the two others, slamming my hands on the table as I did so.
"You have a fucking legend standing here so fuck Flint's fantasy." I leaned across the table on my hands and I straightened my back afterwards to maintain my confident attitude.
"See, Billy, we already have one... so don't worry about that. Five million pieces, think about that." Mr. Gates played along mockingly.
"I guess we just keep looking then."
"No need."
Mr. Gates slapped Billy on his chest and pointed at the appraiser who was speaking with a messenger around 12 years old at the moment. The older man slapped Billy again as a sign to follow him and the young man and I exchanged some looks before we brought our attention back to Mr. Gates. He pushed his chair back with his legs and hurriedly followed the appraiser with me following him on his heels. It took a moment until Billy finally managed to move down the balcony with us, but eventually he joined us. That didn't mean Billy understood what was going on, so, as I kept an eye out for the appraiser, Mr. Gates tried to meanwhile give an explanation of what we were doing to the disoriented Billy.
"Why are we following the appraiser?"
"Cause if I'm this cook and I want to sell the schedule and leave this place as a rich man-....." Mr. Gates stopped and tapped me on the shoulder. "Naida?"
"Mhuh?" I hummed as I had the appraiser locked in my eye sight like a hunting eagle.
"Finish it for me, will you?" I inclined my head in understanding and Mr. Gates made a shortcut through some alleys leaving us by ourselves. I held out a hand and rested it on the shoulder of Billy as I guided him to where I went.
"Well, if I was the cook, I would need two things— I need a boat and I need a method of payment."
"A method of payment? Gold?" I shook my head at his answer.
"In my doing of business, gold is too heavy and attracts too much attention if you want to sneak through the streets, so.... I was thinking more about pearls and of course I want to know the exact value of what I'm getting."
After a while, we ended up at the brothel.
It made me pretty uncomfortable to stand inside the brothel as a woman because all the men were staring at me. Probably because I was new here, but still. My back was supported by the cold wall as I observed the men with a challenging face expression, making sure they wouldn't dare to touch me or else the first thing they would lose were their cocks. In the meantime Mr. Gates had caught up with us and I signed to one of the upstairs rooms the appraiser disappeared into. Mr. Gates had seen it too and before he could say anything, he was addressed by a man of The Walrus. He appeared to be quite drunk in the way he walked and talked and a white was attached to his side, curling his hair around her fingers.
The drunk man began to talk and my mind drifted off to the thought of us just waiting for that man to be done with his quick fuck and that he wasn't here for his job at all.
As if Billy could read my mind, he asked if we didn't have a big chance he was here for a quick fuck and not for his work or the schedule and Mr. Gates immediately disagreed with him.
"I don't think the man would have a quick fuck with Anne Bonny standing guard." I looked back up at the door of the room he had disappeared in and there was indeed a red haired woman, apparently named Anne Bonny, standing guard. Damn, this will take longer than I thought it would be. I ordered a bottle of rum to quench my thirst and after I paid for it, I thanked the woman working behind the bar who felt very flattered subsequently. Right when I took a big sip of my rum a tall, muscular figure ran into the brothel and I almost choked on my rum when I saw the man properly.
Vane.
I had spit out the rum that I couldn't get myself to swallow and the whole brothel went silent. Fuck, Captain Vane was aware of me. He angrily turned around and gazed at me with a dead man's glare, though, on the other hand, I casually smiled back at him and winked before I instantly turned my face back to the confident look I had worn on my face before he fucked up the mood in here.
I could feel his oceanic eyes follow my body from the bottom up and I spotted him clenching his jaw. It made me feel like he wanted to say something to me, but didn't have much time to do so when he suddenly ran up the stairs, not paying any attention to me anymore. The music had afterwards started to continue again and the people continued talking cheerfully. I took a deep breath and then exhaled.
"I see you have already encountered Vane." Mr. Gates switched his eyes at me with a big smile, but his expression changed into pity one when he saw my concerned face. "Not in a good way then, eh?"
"Nevertheless, it was a great encounter. Though, sadly, I think he and I are, as it is called, enemies after the little problem at the coast."
Mr. Gates and Billy bursted out in laughter and I followed, making the three of us laugh like we just escaped death. I could get used to this island. After a long time of waiting and hearing men's drunk conversations, Vane and his quartermaster walked downstairs, completely ignoring us while walking outside. They seemed beyond angry. Quite by accident, Flint and Eleanor walked in a few seconds afterwards, telling that a French whore had a part in all this nonsense. Of course we had to handle it with speed so we quickly found ourselves in front of her room while Eleanor entered on her own first. We could hear the whore saying that they could flee together and I looked at Flint with an disgusted look.
"How long is this gonna take?" I questioned.
"Naida, let them be emotional for a little bit of time." Mr. Gates laid his hand down on my shoulder and I watched him with confusion in my eyes as he just smiled and stayed quiet.
"You brought them here?" The whore's French accent was very thick and then Flint, amazing timing by the way, opened the door and walked inside with the three of us following him involuntarily.
"Max, I need you to tell me where the page is."
"And if I don't, then what?"
"This doesn't have to go badly."
"I want her to say it! I want her to say that she would sit there and watch as you beat the answer out of me to save this place. Say it! SAY IT!" The French whore, Max, called out with tears in her eyes, clearly in love with Eleanor. However Eleanor had different plans as she shook her head, making Max back off.
"The Wrecks at sun down."

~~~ * ~~~ * ~~~ * ~~~ * ~~~
Heather sat with Harry on the grass and looked over at Ron and Hermione talking – or more like Hermione talking on and on and Ron nodding his head every once in a while – which was a huge relief. It only took Hermione apologizing and Ron was instantly all “Oh, he was only a rat. I’ll get another not so old one now, or maybe an owl – they’re much better.”
The whole class was waiting on further instruction from Hagrid besides just feeding the Salamanders dried twigs, but Hagrid was even less himself after the hearing. Harry tried talking to him during the start of the lesson, but Hagrid refused, not wanting to burst out crying in front of everyone.
The bells rang in the distance and the whole class got up, picked up their Salamanders and dumped them in the fire. Heather stayed by the fire, watching them curl up and nap while Hermione and Harry convinced Hagrid to walk them back to the castle.
“It was awful,” Hagrid croaked, holding back tears. “All those black robes… sittin’ there, lookin’ down at us. S’all my fault, it was. I kep’ droppin’ me notes an’ got all tongue-tied an’ – OH – an’ then Lucius Malfoy takes the stand an’ said his bit, an’ the committee jus’ did exac’ly what he told ‘em to do… So they… they gave Beaky a final date…”
“It’s not fair. Those doddery old fools shouldn’t be on the committee if they can be so easily scared by Malfoy’s dad.” Hermione teared up and shook her head.
Ron ran ahead and jumped on a rock at the top of the hill. “Hagrid! You can still save him with the appeal! This time we’ll all really help and – ”
“Lucius Malfoy won’t let the committee change their minds. I jus’ have tuh make sure the time Beaky has left is a good one. I owe ‘im that… s’cuse me – ” Hagrid broke off and hurried back down the hill towards his cabin.
“Look at him! The blubbering oaf.” Draco came out from behind the castle doors with Crabbe and Goyle laughing just behind him.
Heather ran up the last small hill to the castle steps and faced Draco. “Leave it alone. You may not care about Hagrid or Buckbeak but I do, and them, and so many other students. And it’s YOUR fault.” Heather jabbed his shoulder, forcing him to step back.
“Sorry, Potter. But it’s just so funny! I’ve never seen anything quite so pathetic.” He turned around to Crabbe and Goyle. “Have you?”
Harry, Ron, and Hermione had climbed the rest of the hill quickly and stopped next to Heather, except for Hermione who continued forward and smacked Draco across the face in one long swoop of her extended arm.
“Hermione!” Heather’s hands covered her mouth, not sure whose side to take now or who to be mad at. If Ron had been the one to hit Draco, Hermione would be giving him an angry talking to already.
Draco staggered back and was caught by Goyle before he could trip. He pushed off him and stood, astounded and scared at Hermione, who looked ready for another go.
“Do NOT call Hagrid Pathetic! Ever! It’s all YOUR fault you – you foul – evil – “ Hermione went for another smack.
“Hermione!” Ron caught her arm.
Heather held her back as she tried pushing them away.
“Get off!” Hermione broke free and pulled out her wand, surprising Draco and leaving him frozen in place with fear. “Don’t ever call Hagrid pathetic!”
“L-let’s go.” Draco turned and hurried into the school with Crabbe and Goyle at his heels.
“Nice Hermione!” Ron held out his hand for a high five and Hermione laughed, giving him one.
“That wasn’t very wise, Hermione.” Heather crossed her arms.
“It’s the wisest thing she’s done all year.” Harry smirked and ran from Hermione’s punch. “Save it for Malfoy!”
Heather was unamused but Ron and Hermione laughed, which was nice to hear after so many weeks of them being angry with each other. They followed Harry inside.
“I’m sorry to say, Heather, but I do hope Harry wins the final Quidditch match against Slytherin. I can’t stand Malfoy winning another thing.”
Heather re-crossed her arms. “Not forgiven. I want to win, not lose just because Malfoy’s on my team.”
Ron made a loud nose. “Oh, don’t you two start now.”
The castle corridors were full of students running to their classrooms. They jogged passed several groups of chattering fifth and seventh years and climbed the stairs all the way up to the charms classrooms. They waved to Ginny quickly as she passed them in the halls on her way to Herbology and reached Professor Flitwick’s class with minutes to spare.
“I like when we’re not late.” Ron pulled on the door and held it open for them.
Heather and Harry walked in and took their normal seats, waiting for Ron and Hermione to take the ones in front of them, but only Ron sat down a minute later.
“Where did Hermione go?” Ron looked around the room. “She wasn’t in the corridor.”
Heather looked towards the door. Several Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs entered the class along with a few Slytherins and Gryffindors, but Hermione never stepped through. The bells rang and Professor Flitwick took his little podium.
“Now, let’s start on Cheering Charms. Everyone – wands out – we’re already into pairs – er, Mr. Weasley, pair with Mr. Longbottom – and let’s begin.”
“Maybe you should go check the bathrooms?” Harry whispered to Heather between swishes.
“And miss class like she’s doing? We’ll find her later.” Heather followed Professor Flitwick’s instructions perfectly and within minutes she was able to do a minor cheering charm, earning her praise in front of the class.
Several attempts later and she was able to perform the full cheering charm, second to a Ravenclaw across the room who always fought with Hermione for first place. The Ravenclaw gave her a look of triumph but it was Heather who took extra points for helping Ron, Harry, Neville, and the two other Slytherins in the room to complete the charm.
After class they went to lunch and split up. Heather sat at the Slytherin table and was soon joined by Draco and even more unfortunately, Pansy, Crabbe, and Goyle.
“Draco!” Heather smiled and took a bite of her ham sandwich, the mustard was extra good on it that day – although everything seemed better under the effects of a cheering charm. “Have you done anything to Hermione?”
“No.” He sat down and looked Heather up and down.
“Cheering Charm.” Heather said and Draco nodded in understanding.
His brows furrowed. “If she thinks she’ll get away with – ”
“Of course she won’t. We should tell on her. Get her detentions for the rest of the year. I mean, first your attacked by a wild creature and then by a stupid Gryffindor?” Pansy added a large glop of salad dripping in dressing onto her plate.
“Or, we can focus on winning the final Quidditch match. Gryffindor won against Ravenclaw which puts them at second place right now. If they beat us, then we tie and the Quidditch cup doesn’t go to anyone.” Heather finished her lunch and moved on to the pies for dessert, cutting off a small slice.
“What’s that go to do with Granger?” Draco pointed to his puffy cheek. “I want her to pay.”
“And she wants to see you lose. So win and rub it in her face.” She didn’t like encouraging Draco to gloat, especially not to her friends, but it was better than letting him get Hermione in trouble. The cheering charm wore off mid apple pie bite and she winced at how sweet it was. “Don’t try the pie.”
“Flint says he has a plan. A good one.” Draco tried looking confident and hopeful.
“Well. Good then.” Heather stood and left the great hall, heading into the girl’s bathroom. “Hermione?” she called out, looking under several stalls for Hermione’s shoes but there was no one there at all. She walked out and saw Harry and Ron leaving the great hall and ran up to them. “She’s not in the bathroom. We should check your common room – and before you ask. No, Malfoy hasn’t turned her into a shrimp and hidden her away or anything at all. She’s missing all on her own.”
They headed up the entrance stairs and down the main corridor. As they started up the stairs to the higher floors, Ron began listing other possible ways Draco could have gotten to her, one way involving Crabbe turning into a giant bird and swooping down and taking her into his talons. They walked up to Gryffindor tower debating the logistics of that scenario – Ron adamant that Crabbe would turn into a BIG bird because of his size and not just a regular sized bird because of the spell.
“Flibbertigibbet” Harry said loud enough for Heather to hear.
“Not so loud,” the fat lady hissed, sensitive to both Heather and possibly a very dangerous Sirius Black hearing it. “I’m changing it again tonight… Just to be sure.” She opened up.
Ron and Harry walked in through the hole While Heather stood just outside, watching them approach a distant lump of frizzy brown hair fast asleep around a tower of books. They poked Hermione awake and began talking – Hermione seemed frantic and upset.
“Hurry up!” Heather called in. “Divination is in ten minutes!”
Hermione stuffed all her books in her bag and came running out ahead of Ron and Harry. “I’ll meet you guys there! I need to talk to Professor Flitwick!” She turned and ran down the stairs towards the charms classrooms.
“She said she forgot to go.” Ron came out of the hole and crossed his arms. “But she was right behind us.”
Heather chewed on her finger the whole way up to the Divinations classroom in thought. Hermione was definitely keeping something, and she needed to know what. She couldn’t believe Hermione was actually possibly keeping a secret from all of them. It was different from her own secret about helping Draco over the summer, that time was once but Hermione has been going on with her secret all year.
They reached the ladder and Hermione joined them almost immediately, looking out of breath.
“Oh Heather, tell me you got the Cheering Charm down. Flitwick hinted at it being on the exams!” Hermione brushed down her hair and sighed with relief as Heather nodded her head.
“Of course I did. And I earned five points for Slytherin while doing so. If you think Slytherin’s going to lose the house cup, that’s one-hundred-and-fifty-five points you need to make up before the last match… And counting.” Heather smiled and climbed the ladder, ignoring Harry as he silently mocked her.
The second Heather stepped in the room she was engulfed in that familiar awful mist that made everything go blurry and hazy. She found her usual seat in the far back of the room at the table above Harry’s and Ron’s. Hermione took the seat opposite her and they all sat waiting for Professor Trelawney to appear from behind a curtain or from inside a cabinet looking all mysterious.
“Look at these crystal balls!” Ron turned to them and held it up to his face, making it look all wonky and distorted through the glass. “Thought we weren’t starting this until fourth year.”
Harry took the ball and set it down on its holder. “Shh. I was getting tired of seeing her flinch every time she saw my hands. I’m scared to sneeze in here in case it sounds like the grim to her.”
Heather laughed. “Your sneezes do sound kind of barky.”
“Shut it.”
“Well as long as crystal balls aren’t on the exams, I don’t care.” Hermione shook her head. “I can’t deal with much more of all this nonsense.”
They all raised their brows at Hermione, but before she could respond, Professor Trelawney appeared from behind the large stack of teacups in the corner.
“Good day! Good, good day to everyone.” Her voice was misty and almost sing song-y as she stepped out and addressed the class. “I was checking the Fates and had seen that the art of the Orb would be on your exams in June, and so we will begin Crystal Gazing early! I am anxious to give you sufficient practice with it.”
Hermione’s hand was up in the air instantly. “But Professor, don’t YOU set the exams?”
Ron and Harry chocked back laughs while Professor Trelawney turned away and hummed loudly.
“Crystal Gazing is a very perfected art. It takes years of practice for many capable wizards – and on the very rare occasion, those particularly gifted with the Sight, can come to see things within a matter of months. I do not expect anyone here to be able to See into the Orb’s infinite depths of wisdom on their first try.”
Professor Trelawney took her seat in her large chair and brought her legs up, crossing them under her layers and layers of skirt fabric. She looked like a monstrous creature, half pile of laundry, half human.
Professor Trelawney breathed out slowly and continued. “We shall first start …with relaxing the conscious mind while keeping our external eyes closed. …This will allow for the Inner Eye to open …and let you into your superconscious – should anyone start Seeing, please speak up!”
Ron’s head was on his table and his shoulders shook uncontrollably with suppressed laughter. Harry was biting down on his wrist and Heather was gripping her chair’s arms so tight she thought her fingers would pop off. Heather looked around and up behind her Neville caught her eye and gave her a face of such extreme confusion that she thought she’d burst out laughing. Hermione was looking like she’d just been murdered with boredom – or hoping to be.
After several not so silent minutes, they began Crystal Gazing by just staring into the crystal orbs and waiting to see anything at all. Heather cleared her mind and looked at the mist swirling and then stilling. Every time she cleared her mind the mist would swirl and then the second Hermione tutted right across from her, the mist would still.
“Would you mind keeping your tutting to yourself?” Heather sat up straight and looked deeper into the orb. The mist swirled into a large spiral, slow and steady as if stirred by a spoon. It went on for several minutes, growing slower. Heather was feeling her eyes going blurry in what she thought could be the start of a hypnotic trance as the misty swirl expanded. It sparkled slightly and the center seemed to still as the mist around it turned clockwise and –
“Tuh. It’s just mist being misty.”
“Has anyone Seen anything yet?” Harry whispered.
“I thought I had seen my Grandma, but it turned out I was just too close to the crystal,” Neville whispered back.
“Oh hold on!” Ron whispered excitedly, looking at the crystal. “I see… I see… That someone’s burnt the table cloth there with a knocked over candle.” He pointed.
Heather couldn’t help but give him a small giggle.
“What a waste of time,” Hermione hissed. “I could be studying for Charms. I could be practicing something actually useful like the Cheering Charm.”
They hushed as Professor Trelawney came shuffling passed asking students if they needed help ‘interpreting the shadowy portents within the Orbs’.
“It’s obvious what it means, isn’t it?” Ron whispered. “There’ll be loads of fog tonight.”
Heather, Harry, Hermione,and Neville behind them burst out laughing. Ron’s ears went red but he grinned wide until Professor Trelawney stopped at the bottom of their row right in front of him.
“Why are you disturbing the clairvoyant vibrations of this room? Let me see here.” She looked down into Ron and Harry’s crystal orb.
Harry looked back at Heather and she rolled her eyes, knowing just as well as he that Professor Trelawney was about to see the Grim in the mist. And sure enough –
Professor Trelawney clutched at her wooden beads. “My dear…” she breathed. “It grows closer… Nearer and nearer… the Gr – !”
“The Grim!” Hermione yelled, exasperated. “Oh of course! Why predict the results of the Gryffindor Slytherin match, or the results of Harry’s exams, or what he’ll have for dinner when you can just predict the ridiculous Grim every day.”
“They are not predictions,” Lavender Brown growled. “They are truth.”
“Not guesses,” Parvati joined in.
Hermione huffed at them.
“My dear. Since you stepped foot in my class it has been clear that you do not have what the noble art of divination requires in order to See into the beyond.” Professor Trelawney tisked. “I have never met a student whose mind is so hopelessly and irreversibly mundane.”
Heather closed her gaping mouth and looked at Hermione, who was not having a good day by any means.
“Fine!” Hermione stood and shut ‘Unfogging the Future’, cramming it in her bag. “Fine!” she repeated, swinging her bag over her shoulder. “Then I’m leaving.” She stomped across the classroom and turned. “Let me guess, next topic is flames, and with my SIGHT I predict you’ll predict THE GRIM for Harry.” She turned and kicked the trap door open and climbed down the ladder.
For several minutes the whole class was talking. Heather convinced Neville to be her partner, leaving the Hufflepuff he was partnered with alone, and Ron and Harry wondered if Hermione would come back. Heather doubted it.
Suddenly Lavender stood up and quickly found Professor Trelawney stoking the fire and adding more herbs to make the room mistier. “Professor! You saw this! You saw her leaving! ‘Around Easter, one of our number will leave us forever’! You said that first day of class!”
Professor Trelawney gave a small smile. “Oh yes, I knew Miss Granger would leave us. That is the burden of the Inner Eye… however, sometimes one hopes to have mistaken the Signs.”
The bells rang and class was over. They packed their things and headed down the ladder.
Harry leaned in to her. “You don’t think me seeing the Grim has anything to do with her seeing the Grim do you?”
Heather shook her head. “I saw that cloud Grim during your match and I haven’t ever seen the Grim in the classroom so… I would guess no.”
“Is that good or bad?”
Heather sighed and shrugged. “I really don’t know.”
They didn’t see Hermione all day after Divination, not even during dinner. Heather hadn’t heard anything about Hermione until Draco arrived late to dinner holding his other cheek in his hand.
“Easter Holidays we’re practicing EVERY DAY. I told Flint we should and he agreed.” He let go of his cheek to grab his cup and exposed his red and slightly swollen cheek.
“W…what happened there?” Heather could almost see fingers marked on his skin.
“Nothing. I heard Granger was told she was too muggle for Divination so I told her not to blame her parents for making her weaker than the rest of us and she slapped me.” He turned to Pansy who started defending him instantly.
“I would have hit you harder.” Heather decided she could let Hermione’s smack slide one last time, although she guessed there wouldn’t be any more after now. Surely Draco had learned his lesson about messing with Hermione after that second, much heavier slap. “So double practices starting tomorrow?”
“Early morning.”
Need Some TLC Chapter 7: Sick at Bucky’s
SUMMARY:You make you way home after the longest week in a long time. You more tired then you every have been coupled with the beginning of the flu. You decide to take the Captain and Sargent up on their offer. They force you to res
WARNING: None
You pursed your lips and eyed the red key with hesitation. You did promise to use the key if you needed to sleep after a rough stint at the hospital. You were tired-beyond tired-and not feeling well. You wanted to use the key, you knew that you were in no shape to care for yourself. You were dizzy and cotton mouthed. You could feel yourself swaying as you blinked. Your heart was racing and you knew you were dehydrated. This was definitely time to use the key, even if they weren't there F.R.I.D.A.Y would be able to monitor you for them.
'Maybe they only offered out of politeness and responsibility. They only see you as an obligation. Captain America would surely offer his apartment out of neighborly obligation. Maybe they don't like me anyway.' Your thoughts grew more and more depressing and anxious, your sleep deprivation getting to you. While you debated on taking the two men up on their proposition your feet chose to make the decision for you. You stopped outside their door and fingered the key. 'Fuck it! They won't mind. I certainly don't. Maybe they will even be here to keep me company.' With that thought you inserted the key and turned. You hadn't seen Bucky before work in a day or two, you vaguely remembered him mentioning needing to be in the compound. You took a deep breath and slouched against the door using your body weight to push it open.
You stepped in quietly closed the door hoping to be unobtrusive. You pulled your bags off and sat them on the floor, keeping the strap in your hand. You looked up to scan the apartment, once and then twice before you recognized the crowd of people in the living room. You squinted and looked at the key in you hand and back to the room. Your eyes were having trouble focusing. You finally locked on to blue eyes staring at you in obvious concern. Bucky was sitting on a couch by himself.
"I'm sorry." You said to the room. "Sargent Barnes and Captain Rogers told me to come over if I ever needed to. I have worked a lot lately." You yawned deeply and swayed. You were struggling to stay on your feet after a 20 hour day. You were slowly losing your ability to stay awake but you couched down to gather your bags. The migraine you had shoved away was coming back with a vengeance. "I can go? I don't want to interrupt." Bucky interrupted before you could make to leave.
"Y/N, c'mon. Lay down. You need to sleep. You are always welcome here. Now let go of the bag and come here." Bucky patted the couch next to him. You did as he said letting the bags slouch against each other on the floor. Steve and the others watched with thinly veiled interest. Most didn't know who you were let alone why you had a key or why Bucky was being so soft and dotting. You stumbled over to Bucky like a drunkard, not able to focus. Steve was glad he cleared a path for you. You sat on the couch with a groan and with Bucky's encouragement and help laid down. Almost instantly you were settling. Bucky smiled and pulled off your shoes and socks and emptied your pockets. He reached up and gently took your ponytail out. He tucked a pillow behind your head and wrapped you in a blanket. You sighed deeply and gave a  final wiggle to get comfortable.
"You okay, sweetheart? I have been worried." Bucky said as he tucked you in.
"Fine. Just want to stop. Tired. People just need to do their job." You spoke with forced enunciation, a choppiness to your words. "I am cold and nauseous and achy." You slurred. The sensation of being taken care of, of safety and closeness helping ease your tense muscles and tired brain into drowsiness.
"I know, darling. A good rest will help put you to rights." He began rubbing your feet where they rested in his lap. You peered up at him with suspicion.
"You are doing this on purpose. I should stay up. Keep my schedule. Somewhat." You told him. He glared at you with a twinge of heat. "Or, I can just lay here and take a nap." Bucky nodded and rewarded you with a smile. "Fine don't let me sleep too long. You have company." You ordered. He nodded but the twinkle in his eye told you that your next few days would be spent in his care getting better.
"Sure thing, sweetheart. I will wake you in a few hours." Bucky murmured in your ear, adjusting the pillow and blanket. With that you fell asleep between one breath and the next.
Bucky watched you for a few minutes. He instinctively counted your rapid, shallow breaths and fast, hard  heartbeats. Your face was pale and blotchy, a grey tint at the very edges of your skin. Bucky felt his concern and worry grow in his chest.
"Steve, do we have a thermometer?" Bucky asked smoothing a hair from your face. It was greasy and he could feel the dry shampoo build up in your roots.
"Want us to leave the room?" Clint teased. "We can leave if you want." Bucky knew even though he was joking, Clint and the others would leave if asked.
"Stop. She is sick and tired. She came here for comfort. I am trying to reteach her affection and friendship. She doesn't have anyone-by circumstance or choice I do not know. I want to be there for her. Like she is for me. Us." Bucky said.
"Bucky, even I can tell from here, she has a fever. You want me to call Bruce?" Steve asked. He handed over the thermometer, telling Bucky to just scan your forehead.
"Bruce isn't that kind of doctor he continually tells us. She is actually a healthcare professional." Bucky took your temperature and winced at the number. "101.3. The is a little high. She should stay here this weekend."
"Agreed. But we both knew she was staying even before the fever. But let's get to lunch and games. She'll sleep like the dead." Steve's lack of concern in his weekend being crashed confused the others but they said nothing.
The group began bickering over what to do for lunch and which game to play. Eventually they decided on pizza and Trivial Pursuit. While they ate and played, Bucky split his attention between his friends and you. He didn't want to keep you on the couch for too long. He was also thinking of ways to get you fever down and rehydrate you. A loud bout of laughter rang through the apartment, Natasha glowering at Sam and Clint. The sudden noise broke through your sleep causing you to stir and whine softly.
"Hush, darling." Bucky murmured in your ear. You settled at the sound of his voice. Clint looked on with warmth in his gaze. He was always a sucker for people in need. His apartment buildings were always full of people trying to get back on their feet for something.
"Wake her in two hours. That will give her one full R.E.M cycle. Give her some regular water or Gatorade and some soup broth to help rehydrate her. Give her some Tylenol to get the fever down at first then bed. Then tomorrow push fluids and good food. She should be better in no time." Clint told Bucky as the pizza arrived and everyone scrambled for some like vultures. Bucky nodded and thanked Clint as he stroked your hair or rubbed a thumb on your ankle while your feet rested in his lap.
"Okay. I know she has been neglecting herself. She baseline is dehydrated, overworked, sleep deprived, and malnourished. I have a lot to fix. She doesn't even seem to understand that she can rely on people or that she deserves  basic things. I know that she has some mental health problems-who doesn't-but I want her to know that working through them like this isn't healthy. I want her to know she can rely on us. on me. to help." Bucky told Clint. Bucky felt better with instructions. He made a mental note to research modern medicine to better help anyone in the future. The relief settled him so he could play games and enjoy his friends.
The predetermined two hours was just about up, Bucky was thinking on how to wake you up when your phone began vibrating. The caller ID screen read Work. The vibrating made you stir but Bucky snatched it off the table before you awoke and answered it. The team instantly was silent.
"Hello?" Bucky was hesitant, he didn't want to invade your privacy and he didn't want to wake you just yet either.
"Hello. I'm sorry? I was trying to reach Y/N? I am Diane from Mercy Hospital General Care Ward." The woman on the other end of the call was polite but confused.
"This is her phone. She is unavailable. Can I take a message?" Bucky sounded calm but his right hand was clenched tightly and his eyebrows dipped together in a frown.
"I know that today is her first day off in sometime but I needed to ask her-" Bucky didn't let her finish before he rejected her statement.
"Absolutely not." Bucky's voice was as sharp as flint.
"Pardon me?" Diane's voice rose in pitch.
"Y/N has just gotten off of 4 16 hour shifts and 2 20 hour shifts. Just this week. She is ill and tired. I am sorry to disappoint you but she will continue to be unavailable until Tuesday as scheduled." Bucky was firm and just shy of rude, he was not giving on this issue even a millimeter.
"Very well. Thank you for your help. I hope she feels better. Good day." Diane hung up not waiting for Bucky's response. Bucky placed the phone back on the table trying not to move you too much.
"Good job, Bucky!" Steve grinned at his friend. Everyone looked on bewildered.
"Bucky, that maybe was a little too far? She should've made that decision herself?" Pietro asked.
"No, she would've forced herself to go in. The state she is in would do more harm then good. She knows they need her but she also knows they need her healthy. I took away the guilt of saying no from her." Bucky defended himself.
"Also me going in with a little bug can lead to huge problems, even if I am careful. Who was it on the phone? Everyone knew I was unreachable until Tuesday, unless it was an emergency." You cut into the conversation with a yawn.
"Y/N! I am sorry did we wake you?" Steve leaned over the back of the couch by Bucky's shoulder.
"No. I heard you talking but I was freaking out about oversleeping and next thing I know, I am awake. Sort of." You said while stretching. "Claudia was definitely right."
""Claudia?" Steve repeated.
"A night nurse, I knew. She told me that sometimes it is good to sleep with people near. Humans are social creatures when sleeping too. Helps the brain relax." You explained to Steve before turning to Bucky. "You didn't answer my question."
"Diane."
"Man, fuck Diane. I hate her. Thank you for telling her no for me." You smiled at Bucky, who smiled back feeling relief. "What was my temp?" You asked seeing the thermometer on the coffee table.
"101.3." Steve said. He and the others watched as you blinked blearily around the room.
"Temporal? Then it is probably 102 even 103. I have a high grade fever. I will need to push fluids." You pushed up to a sitting position, throwing a hand out to ride out the dizziness.
"Your iron is low. You are anemic." A man with short dirty blonde hair said.
"Huh?" You blinked at him. "Oh, yeah. But not from being sick. I haven't been eating well." You narrowed your eyes at the man who you were speaking to, then widened them in recognition. "Sargent Barnes...I know we discussed me trading baked good for name-dropping bragging rights but I think it will have to wait." You said.
Bucky laughed and helped you sit up. "They aren't here for your baked goods today. They are here for Team-Bonding. Anyway sweetie, lets get you some fluids and food and meds. Then you can go to bed in my room. Bucky took your elbow in hand and helped you stand up and guided you towards the kitchen.
"'Bucky, it's nothing to make a fuss about. I am fine. Let me go home, please I have chores to do." You halfheartedly pulled at you arm.
"Y/N, I don't think so. Come on, food, water, meds, sleep, hun. In that that order. I will even loan you my shirt to sleep in." Bucky's grip didn't slacken at your tugging. You looked between the kitchen and his front door before the words registered.
"The red one?" You asked quietly like it was a secret. "It is my favorite."
"If you want. You can have anything you want." Bucky kept the thrill he felt when you admitted to having a favorite shirt of his. Bucky wanted to repeat his demands but knew that you knew them.
You felt like shit and having someone to dote on you wouldn't be unwanted. You knew from past experience that being sick was terrible but being sick and alone was unbearable.
"Fine. I will eat and take meds then I will go home. I am not interrupting your Team-Bonding any more than I already have." You tell Bucky. You peek at his teammates-who some you recognize and some you don't-you were trying to look like they weren't just watching the two of you. Bucky nodded at you with an overly innocent look.
"Yes, My dear. Whatever you say." You flinched at his words and Bucky looed at you with a question in his eyes as he helped you sit down in the kitchen island.
You sat down ungracefully still groggy and wibbly. You placed you head on crossed arms but kept your eyes on Bucky. "Don't call me that. That is what my dad called my mom when they would fight." You mumbled.
"Okay, baby-girl, okay." Bucky pulled out a bowl and served you some soup he'd been simmering for a while. You stayed slumped in your chair patiently, zoning out, listening to Bucky puttering around the kitchen and the others playing their game. Bucky glanced over to you and saw your glazed over eyes and pale skin and purple smudges under your eyes. He felt his heart clench at your appearance. Bucky brought over the bowl, pressing featherlight kiss to your hair. "Here's some soup. Full disclosure? This is yours, from when Steve's nightmares started acting up last month? I froze it and thawed it out to eat today." You huffed a laugh and leaned your weight into Bucky's chest for a second before pulling away to eat. Bucky sat down next to you. Tylenol and water found their home next to the bowl of soup. You began to dig in, slowly. Bucky sat with you for a bit.
"Good idea to freeze it. I need to make some stuff. Especially if I am going to use it as bribery to meet everyone. Sargent Barnes? Go on and play. You did your job. I will eat drink and be miserable right here, then I shall steal your clothes and bed. You'll never get rid off me then." You tried to get him to go to his teammates, guilt flooding you for taking him away from his team.
Bucky only grinned at you, dimples showing, eyes lighting up. "That is kinda the plan, doll. Minus the be miserable part." Bucky ruffled your hair affectionately.
"Cause I'm your girl?" You said teasingly. But you could hear the insecurity behind it and knew he could too.
"Yep. My girl. My best girl." Bucky said without hesitation. You beamed at him, reassured for now. you nudged him with you elbow. "Go on, play your games. I think, though, Trivial Pursuit is an unfair advantage for the others considering you were locked away like a pint of Ben and Jerry's for 70 years."
Bucky tuned in time to see everyone direct their gaze from the two of you. He sighed but said nothing, knowing the behavior was born from concern for him and curiosity about you. Not just anyone had a key to their apartment or free rein over it either. Bucky turned to see you went back to eating. He sat down to go back to the game. "Okay, we got at max 45 minutes until she is out again. I gave her nighttime cold medication instead of regular Tylenol." Steve clapped in friend on the back in support. They would apologize when you woke back up again.
"You gonna introduce us? She said she wanted to meet us." Natasha asked. Bucky could see how antsy everyone was to meet you. He knew his answer wouldn't help. "Not right now. She needs rest. One day yes. She won't appreciate being dropped into a first meeting. She works very hard and she is very important to me. I don't want to cause her distress."
"I know that isn't what you guys want to hear but please be patient. She is amazing, she was completely unfazed when we asked to help her move in and she realized who we are. She didn't freak out or anything. Just thanked us and dropped off cookies. She is a polite and considerate woman who deserves our respect. She'll want to meet you when she believes she won't embarrass us." Steve took over when Bucky trailed off. "She takes care of us when she can, because she doesn't take car of herself." Steve raised his voice to carry into the kitchen.
"That's fucking rich coming from the multiple 4-F-lying-on-government-forms-jumping-without-parachutes-reckless idiot." You snapped back finally standing up from the table. You eyed the dishwasher but ultimately decided to put you bowl in the sink, you headache had shrank but you still feared it falling off if you bent over.
"If you have time to sass Steve, you time to take meds." Bucky reminded you.
"I just took them, dad." You stuck your tongue out at him. "Do I get to be introduced?" You smiled but Bucky could see the tense set of your shoulders and how your eyes jumped from person to person.
"Nope. I am not giving you any excuse to skip your nap. Go on, if you want to take a show-"
You moaned in delight. "Oh, god, yes, please." You shuffled over to where you knew the bathroom to be not paying attention to how Bucky was struggling to push down thoughts of how else he could get those noises out of you.
"Everything is in the bathroom." Bucky called out as the door shut. He spun to face Steve, eyes wide and hands wringing. "Steve" Bucky whined pitifully.
Steve looked up to see Bucky's distraught look. Steve offered no support only shaking his head in amusement.  Bucky flopped down, feeling dramatically unsettled. He was aware he had a possessive streak a mile wide and you were going to be wet and slippery in his shower, using his soaps, wearing his clothes, sleeping in his bed. It was enough to fell a weaker man but Bucky was better than that. He would respect your boundaries and wait for the proper opening. Laughter from the game grabbed his attention, he chose to actively follow the game feeling guilty about his raunchy thoughts and neglect of his friends. "Sorry, guys. I didn't mean to ignore you."
Natasha didn't say anything just smiled knowingly at the ever so slight sheen of sweat at Bucky's temple. The Maximoff Twins waved away the apology.
"Dude, if I was you, I would have kicked everyone out and taken care of my girl." Sam said.
"She would have left first. She sees herself as the second choice. Something I hope to unlearn her of. I want to help her more, slowly I am learning her personality. But I constantly freeze in the moment. She's always so busy. I am trying to help by making her lunch and keeping her place tidy. That really seemed to help." Bucky said.
"That is a good idea. Why not invite her as your date to the Stark Charity Gala in a few months?" Sam suggested. Bucky seemed to think on it for a moment and looked to Steve, who nodded.
"Fine. I will ask her to the gala. that should give her time to find a dress and get off work." The group cheered lightly. "But!" They paused. "I will only ask her as my official date if Steve asks Tony. No matter what I will ask her to go for a night out because she deserves it." Bucky challenged his old friend. The other members of the team cheered once more. Steve and Tony's mutual pining was frustrating enough, adding on Bucky and yours's was nauseatingly frustrating.
The excitement of the possible feelings resolution was enough to get everyone involved in the game once more. Bucky kept an ear out for you in case you needed something. 20 minutes later and you shuffled out of the bathroom, looking extremely refreshed. Bucky almost swallowed his tongue, his red shirt and sweat draped off your much smaller frame and he could smell his shampoo in your hair and his body wash on your skin.
"Sargent Bar-"Bucky shot you a look. "James." Earned you another. "Bucky" You sighed. "Bucky, Steve, everyone, sorry I ruined you afternoon. I didn't mean to intrude." You played with the hem of his shirt, looking small and tired.
"We already covered this. You didn't ruin anything." Bucky said firmly without any heat. You flinched anyway. "I gave you a key. I want you to use it. I didn't give it to you with conditions, I gave it to you for both my sanity and yours." Bucky got up and walked over to you. "I am glad you used it today. Please understand, you are my best girl. I want you here, wearing my clothes, smelling like me. I want you with me, near me, all of it." Bucky paused. He was coming on strong and he didn't want to push you away.
"I know. But...I don't want to assume anything.:" you said quietly into his chest. Bucky pulled you into a tight hug. He rubbed your back with one hand and stroked your hair with his metal hand.
"Assume away, pretty girl. I may have reached out because you had helped us so much but now? I want you around because I want you and I care for you." Bucky held you tight for another moment.
"Okay. I am sorry. I am a mess. I get whiny and insecure when I am sick." You pressed your face deeper into his chest.
"Y/N, you are a registered nurse, living on her own in NYC. You are friends with most if not all the Avengers. You are sweet and amazing and compassionate. I know sometimes the hard days turn into hard weeks and you get lost in the fog but you are working through it. You know when to ask for help even if you hate it. You aren't a mess. Maybe a little disheveled but that is easy to straighten out." Bucky pulled away slightly to slid his left hand to your back and his right to your thighs, picking you up to cradle in his arms. "Now, let's get you into bed. You still have two day off and a cold to get rid of."
"Okay, Bucky. Thank you." You mumbled. You wanted to tell him to put you down but the idea of being coddled and carried won out quickly. Your awareness was getting fuzzy around the edges. "You didn't give me Tylenol did you?" You said as Bucky tucked you into his bed. He turned on some music very softly to drown out the noise in the living room, not answering you.
"You need anything, ask me. I mean it, anything. Until then...Sleep tight, my sweet girl. See you later." Bucky kissed you temple, heading towards the door.
"Thank you, sweetheart." You mumbled before nodding off. Bucky physically melted, tension leaving his back and shoulders as he shut the door.
