A letter from Iran, to American university students:
(This is from the letter) …The Quran's lesson for us Muslims and all of humanity, is to stand up for that which is right: "So be steadfast as you have been commanded" (11:112).
Note: I noticed maybe 3 or 4 mistakes in the reading of the letter, and one of them is the word “ungovernable”, which must be replaced by “unforgivable“.

“Raisi’s death in itself will not structurally change the leadership of the country which is ensured by the supreme leader Khamenei. On the other hand, we must now scrutinise the looming political battle and the internal balance of power within the regime, since the Iranian constitution provides that new elections must be organised within 50 days.” - Taghi Rahmani, the husband of the imprisoned Nobel prize winner Narges Mohammadi
Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei is 85 years old and has been the supreme leader since 1989. Previously was president from 1981 to 1989. Khamenei is the longest-serving head of state in the Middle East.
Wikipedia
Iran: who holds power now the president is dead? | The Guardian
The question of who will succeed Khamenei, who has been treated for prostate cancer and has other health issues, has become more pressing in recent years as he had groomed and elevated key loyalists like Raisi, the president who died on Sunday.
Mohammad Mokhber, interim president
Aged 68, Mokhber, who was appointed acting president after Raisi’s death, served as first vice-president. Associated with the hard-line conservative centres of power in Iran, Mokhber is regarded as close to the office of the supreme leader and the IRGC, which represent the two key intersecting focuses of power in the Iranian system of governance.
Mojtaba Khameini, son of Ali Khamenei
Aged 54, the supreme leader’s second eldest son is sometimes mentioned as a potential successor to his father. An important figure in the Office of the Supreme Leader, he is seen as a power broker and gatekeeper for his father, with his influence dictated by his proximity to Khamenei.

I'm going to have to argue with you here on what you are implying or outright stating in your tags.
1. It was still the Islamic Republic of Iran (I shall abbreviate to IRI to not jkeep typing it out) that started this. They don't represent all or even most Iranians, so I'm being careful to spell out it's the government, not the people at fault.
The attack on the IRI embassy in Damascus was in response to the IRI having supported Hezbollah, Hamas, the Assad regime & the Houthis for decades. The IRGC (the military of the IRI) has provided weapons, training & logistical support to all of these entities for decades.
Bridagier General Mohammed Reza Zahedi has been personally helping Hezbollah in their anti-Israel actions since 1998 & was continuing in that roll during the current ongoing artillery & rocket attacks on Israeli positions on the Israeli-Lebanon border. The guy wasn't some uninvolved innocent, nor was his deputy, Brigadier General Mohammed Hadi Haj Rahimi.
2. Please learn some history. Israel doesn't really start wars. With the exception of 1967, the other side always fired the first shot. Even in 1967, everyone knew Israel was going to get attacked, Israel just pre-empted it, because why die in a gentlemanly way when you can live instead.
1948 - The Arab League send in 5 Armies with the aim of genocide, kill all the Jews. The 3 militias of the Yishuv + Druze allies & a few Bedouin tribes had to coalesce into the IDF. What became Israel was outmanned & outgunned. Their only outside help was arms from Czechoslovakia whilst the Jordanians had British officers assisting then (ever heard of John Bagot Glubb, I only heard of him a month ago).
1956 - Yeah, the French & Brits were part of the Suez crisis out of greed. But Israel allied with them because Egypt blockaded the Gulf of Aqaba & allowed regular fedayeen raids into Israel from Egyptian-controlled territory.
1967 - Yeah, Israel fired the first shot, but you have all of the following: (a) the armies of Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Jordan & Iraq (yes the same Iraq which doesn't share a border with Israel) have gathered on its borders (b) the UN were withdrawing from the area because Egypt informed them the invasion was imminent & (c) Israel's main ally of the past 15 years, France, drops them because they expect the Israelis to be slaughtered within a week of the war starting (the irony). Of course the Israelis weren't going to politely wait to get slaughtered when a pre-emptive strike could destroy Egypt's air force & even out the odds.
By the way, it was the aftermath of 1967 that convinced the Yanks to ally with Israel. So anyone who thinks that breaking the US-Israel alliance is enough to doom Israel is ignorant of history. Israel survived its first 20 years without the Yanks. The loss of the alliance would be bad, but the Israelis would adapt & find a new main ally.
1973 - This isn't ambiguous. Israel got caught by surprise here. This was the last of the wars where Israel was the underdog, but oh boy if 1967 looked bad, this looked worse. In addition to the 1967 combatants we had the following armies: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia & Cuba (Syria/Egypt were USSR allies, so was Cuba. That's why Cuba was in this). Add in the Air Forces of Algeria & North Korea. All the Israelis had going for them was that the Yanks didn't flake like France did, so there was American aid to Israel to counter the Soviet, East German & Libyan aid to the other side rather than being completely alone like in 1967.
1978-2000 - The Lebanon Conflicts - Same reason as Suez. Fedayeen/PLO attacks initiated the chain. With Egypt & Jordan having signed peace treaties & Syria's army in tatters after 1973, Israel was no longer the underdog. This doesn't change the fact that they reacted to getting attacked. It just makes the PLO dumb for fighting without allies (& Hezbollah smart for gaining an ally in Iran I guess).
The Infitadas & Suicide Bombers - Palestinian terror geoups are obviously to blame. I'm not sure why they thought this could work when 1948/1967/1973 failed. Moreover, Palestinian statehood probably would have happened by now if the Infitadas had never happened. It was these & the suicide bombing campaigns that convinced many Israelis that peace wasn't going to happen. Without the suicide bombings of 1993-1996 (carried out by Hamas & PIJ), Netanyahu would never become PM. Shimon Peres was like Yitzhak Rabin before him, devoted to the two-state solution. The suicide-bombers gave enough Israelis doubts that they voted for Netanyahu instead.
2006 - 200 attacks on Israel by Hezbollah over 6 years before Israel responded. That's 199 more attacks than us Australians would have put up with before deciding to declare war.
2023-2024 - 2 words - October 7th.
3. Why are you listing Australia-related tags? This article isn't from our ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), it's from the USA's ABC (American Broadcasting Company). The logos look completely different. I'm assuming you're neither Australian (like myself) or American (like 45.3% of users according to marketsplash.com) as we know the difference in our logos.
