"A child is a child of everyone." ~ Sudanese Proverb. This picture of Takura and I in Sierra Leone in December 2003 surrounded by my cousins and nephews is so fitting of this proverb. I always feel like every child I encounter is my child. I literally get into mama mode whenever I am surrounded by children. When we were in Sierra Leone, Takura was everyone's child. All the adults had their own little ritual with Takura - some read him books, some took him for walks, some played games, some carried him on their backs, some picked him up and took him for haircuts. Most of these were people who were not even related to us. He truly was everyone's child. I am not sure if this affected the way I just treat every child as mine when I encounter them but the world would be an awesome place if a child, an African child, any child, is a child of everyone. Happy International Day of the African Child. ~ Annette #founderinchief #ittakesavillage #africanchildren #internationaldayoftheafricanchild #HouseOfTakura #mompreneur #bagsthatempower #momboss #empoweringthefuture #momceo (at Freetown, Sierra Leone) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBgu_4tFRDz/?igshid=1ooh5msyn130n

June 16th is a day set aside to celebrate the International Day Of the African Child. . . Today I want each and every one of us to ask ourselves this pertinent question. What am I doing to support the quest for an African child to get educated, have access to quality health care delivery and a good life in general? . . Today like every other day, we are pledging to support as many children as possible to get quality education and healthcare delivery. . . Education is not about learning life, but education itself is a life. It is the key to finding great characters hidden in every individual. Education remains the best investment any nation can ever give to her citizens. . . When you deny children access to quality education, you have denied them one of the basic necessities in life. . . This why we are calling on kind spirited individuals, organizations and corporate bodies to kindly support us to enroll more children into school. The Day of the African Child has been celebrated on June 16 every year since 1991,when it was first initiated by the OAU Organisation of African Unity. . It honors those who participated in the Soweto Uprising in 1976 on that day. It also raises awareness of the continuing need for improvement of the education provided to African children. In Soweto, South Africa, on June 16, 1976, about ten thousand black school children marched in a column more than half a mile long, protesting the poor quality of their education and demanding their right to be taught in their own language. Hundreds of young students were shot, the most famous of which being Hector Pieterson. . . More than a hundred people were killed in the protests of the following two weeks, and more than a thousand were injured. #internationaldayoftheafricanchild #education #june16 #ipledgetosupporteducation #rohefbacktoschoolandscholarships #backtoschoolsupply #childrenaregifts #rohefngo #rayofhopeempowermentfoundation #ngo #africa #Nigeria #healthforall #KaibeyaCareFoundationAfrica #togetherwecan #lendahandtouchalife #1project5states #rohef #sdgmediazone #sdgaction #advocacy #abuja #girlchildeduation #pressforprogress2019 https://www.instagram.com/p/ByxvPWQFtjM/?igshid=49vcwwf91i0o

#OnThisDay #June16 Tupac Amaru Shakur (June 16,1971- September 13, 1996) #SouthAfricaYouthDay #SowetoUprising -June 16,1976 marked the day when a series of protests led by high school students in South Africa in response to the introduction of Afrikaans (the foreign language brought to South Africa by its European Apartheid ruling minority) as the medium of instruction in local schools. An estimated 20,000 students took part in the protests and were met with fierce police brutality. A reported 176 protestors were said to be killed, but it is believed that an estimated 700 were killed. Today Black South African children continue the fight and struggle for freedom and full participation in their education system! A Luta Continua! #InternationalDayOfTheAfricanChild has been celebrated since June 16,1991- Initiated by the Organization of African Unity (OAU) to honor those who participated in the Soweto Uprising on that day in 1976. It is an annual gathering of governments, NGO's, international organizations and other stakeholders to gather to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the full realization of the rights of children in Africa! What a joke since these very people are often the ones who put every barrier possible for children in Africa to get to the full realization of their rights to begin with! "You know it's funny when it rains it pours... They got money for wars, but can't feed the poor... Say there ain't no hope for the youth and the truth is... It ain't no hope for the future... And then they wonder why we crazy... We ain't meant to survive, cause it's a set up... And even if you're fed... You got to keep ya head up, oooo child things are gonna get easier... Ooooo child things are gonna get brighter"- Tupac #KeepYaHeadUp #OurGlobalFusion
