One of my friends has recently been watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and it got me thinking about Zecora. Does she count as Black coded? And if so, is she any good as representation? My gut instinct for the second question is no because if she is Black coded she probably falls into the “mystical black woman” stereotype, but I figured that since I’m not Black I should ask someone who is to weigh in on this one.

Well, from the fact that she's a zebra (an animal located only in Africa afaik), she has the neck rings (which is practiced by some African and Asian cultures), and according to this description speaks in an "African-esque" (which 😬) accent, with a Black voice actress, I think we can say yeah. But that's me.

As for her being good representation, I cannot tell you that 😅 I don't watch the show.

Maybe an isekai where the transported FeMC knows one of the characters has hypnosis powers (love rival? twist villain? Just The Villain?) and does everything she can to avoid him. That makes him suspicious, so he corners her and uses his powers & learns a lot more than he was expecting...

Anon you have reached into my soul with this prompt. I am SO excited to write this I can’t even EXPLAIN.

What’s worse than being hit by a truck and magically waking up inside of your favourite show?

Knowing all of the plot twists ahead of time.

She could never feel comfortable around her new magical friends! Whenever she looked at them all she saw was the plot:

Casey would lose the love of her life.

Danell would turn to the dark side to try and save her family.

Trevor would permanently lose all of his memories of their time together.

And Ryan?

“Something the matter?” Ryan said, clocking in on her checked-out look.

Ryan was the villain.

“Oh. Sorry, I totally spaced. What did you say?” she replied.

Who was she, you ask? The main character, of course.

The fact that she knew she was a main character was awful. I mean, the first thing she did was dye her naturally bright pink hair a nice earthy brown. And get blue contacts for her purple eyes.

It didn’t counteract the curse of a main character, though.

Love interests of every gender threw themselves at her feet. Mysteries and prophecies popped up every two days. She couldn’t even walk three steps without stumbling across a mystical artefact to help her and her friends save the world through the ✨power of friendship✨.

Yay.

So, as they sat around chatting she tried to pretend this group was as normal as possible.

But she couldn’t do that with Ryan.

Ryan had these powers, ways of controlling and manipulating the main cast. He rarely used them this early on in the series.

But that didn’t mean he wouldn’t.

She started out by avoiding him as much as possible. Putting her earbuds in as soon as he spoke. Switching classes (which she always sat in the back of, by the window).

He clocked on pretty quickly - which was annoying.

Then, when cornered about why she was acting so weirdly around him she claimed it was because she had some crush on him which only made him more suspicious and led to three episodes of her friends trying to force them together.

And now?

He was watching her. He knew something was up. He knew that she knew something she shouldn’t.

And she had run out of excuses to avoid him.

One by one her friends left to deal with some side plot that had cropped up, and before she could react she was sitting alone with him.

“So, penny for your thoughts?” He started, pushing the emo black hair out of his eyes.

Total villain stereotype.

“Oh, nothing!”

Being the main character, her smooth, easy lie, came out jumbled and awkward. Just a by-product of being in the presence of a villain. Or maybe he was activating the part of his powers that made them slip up.

Either way he could read her like a book.

“Come on, I don’t bite.” He let some of his deep tone sink into the words and she felt her head go slightly fuzzy.

She jumped to attention at once to snap out of it.

“Oh! Wow! I uh, I forgot about the - thing! Gotta go do the thing, yep. See you later, Ryan!” She tripped over air, steadying herself. She was still affected by whatever he had done to her.

“…did I do something?” He asked, voice surprisingly small.

“What? No! I told you. I have to go get the thing!” She said, eyes darting away from his gaze.

“Really?” He said, something shifting in his facial expression. He began to raise his hand, and she instinctively shut her eyes to block them out.

He stopped. Looking between her and the glow of his fingertips.

“Oh.”

She’d played her card, hearing the curiosity and amusement in his voice.

“How long have you known?” He asked, calmly. She stood firm, unyielding, eyes squeezed tight.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Is that so?” He laughed. “Then why don’t you open your eyes?”

She felt the temptation, his magic at work, tugging at her. She wanted to open her eyes. No, he wanted her to feel that way.

Stay strong.

“Come on… just a little peek?” His hands glowed more, her face relaxing as his power sank into her. She’d feared this day for a while, but now she was living it her mind couldn’t find the will to fight back.

Her eyes opened low, and that was enough.

The glow filled her vision, her eyes wide and jaw slack.

“There you go. That wasn’t so hard, was it?” He said, and if she could think she’d have realised that was the exact quote he said during the grand reveal…

But she couldn’t think. She couldn’t begin to imagine resisting.

“Now, why don’t you tell me how you knew about my powers hmmm?” His glowing finger beconning her closer.

Her legs moved on their own.

“Well?”

She froze, what little part of her was aware tried to fight it. But it was no use.

She spilled it all. How she ended up here. The plot of the show. Everyone’s hidden subplots and character arcs.

By the end of it he simply sat and contemplated what she had told him for a moment.

He stared at the broken woman before him.

“Well, I guess now is when things get interesting…”

That said, do you have any ideas on why Eridan might specifically flirt as a sort of default response sometimes? (I really hope I'm not misremembering that, the fandom bastardizes the poor guy to be Cronus 2.0-)

I have my own personal speculation here, but I'd love to see your take on it!

I think it's a few things all working in tandem, and I think you definitely nailed at least most of it! I do agree that a huge part of his fixation on romance is the fact that a romantic partner is "supposed" to stick around, and Eridan is simply desperate for attention and friendship.

There are a lot of people who idealize relationships and believe that they're the "fix" or "solution" to their emotional problems, and Eridan's obsession with blackrom in particular (where the caligulas part of his trolltag comes from) definitely has shades of that. A kismesistude is an outlet for violent urges, as well as a romantic interest who ideally doesn't ghost you or leave you alone (cough Vriska cough), and one of the two concupiscent quadrants that needs to be filled so you don't get culled.

An interesting thing is constantly being implied within the comic, which is that moirallegiance is actually kind of the most important quadrant for trolls, but their culture has de-emphasized it in favor of the two breeding-related quads. After all, since adult trolls don't have to raise their own young, what Karkat calls "mating fondness" is biologically much less imperative to their species compared to the quadrant that keeps volatile trolls from going berserk and killing people.

Moirallegiance is always treated with a sort of mysticism - it's called "magical" by the narration in relation to Kanaya and Vriska's moirallegiance while that's still extant, it's the only quadrant described as "soul mates," and in contrast to "mating fondness," Karkat mentions the "mystical forces governing moirallegiance." Moirails - Equius and Nepeta being confirmed, but I genuinely believe that that's what Feferi and Sollux would have resolved to in that hypothetical golden ending - are also the quad that spends the most time together, rather than the two concupiscents. The initial description of the pale quadrant even outright says that the attraction is "instinctive." There's something magical and destiny-laden in a moirallegiance that just isn't there to the same extent in the other three quads.

But in Alternian society, kindness, guilt, and the other kinds of things you'd share with a moirail are considered weakness, especially for highbloods. When Feferi is breaking up with him, Eridan flips out the hardest at the implication that she felt the need to take care of him, insisting that he was perfectly fine. I think this is the reason, in addition to the painful breakup, that Eridan never pursues pale relationships, even though a moirail is what he desperately needs. Instead, he pursues the much more societally acceptible pitch quadrant, which can serve a similar purpose of discharging some of his pent-up aggression.

Moreover, his flirting isn't nearly as relentless as people think it is, although he IS both really stubborn AND really socially inept, which makes it difficult both to get a "no" through his brain, AND to make it stick. Another part of it is that he's operating at very little self-awareness, which means he'll often be doing something without consciously realizing it. Also, he's desperate as hell, and has basically no ability to differentiate good and bad attention. This leads to a pretty messy cocktail that basically means:

He'll hit on anyone at least once (desperation), with the exception of people it would be really weird to hit on, for example, their dancestors, who are way older than them.

If a rejection is not made excruciatingly clear, he probably won't register it as a rejection (dumbassery).

Nearly any attention he gets might be misinterpreted as flirting, even after a rejection is made (desperation, also, can't differentiate between good and bad attention).

Even after a rejection is made and he logically understands it and outright says he respects it, he might still act in a flirtatious way unconsciously (zero self awareness).

Because he will hit on anyone at least once, and is constantly making things weird and leaping to "romance?" even when there's no flirtatious intent, people kind of assume he's always hitting on them, even when he isn't.

His emotions always running at a fever pitch, and the lack of self-awareness he cultivates in order to help deal with his horrible cognitive dissonance, mean that even HE'S not sure about his real feelings. He's always feeling SOMETHING very, very intensely (it's the trauma and anxiety), which he mistakes for true caliginous hatred, or fevered flushed intent. Unlike Cronus, who's basically just trying to get some action, Eridan genuinely feels something for people, and his extreme lack of emotional intelligence means he has no idea how to parse his own tempestuous emotions. He always leaps to feverish concupiscent attraction because that's just how intense his emotions run at any given moment.

#4 is happening to Feferi and Sollux, IMO, while Rose never properly rejected him, so he still thinks they have a chance, and the same happened with Vriska when she started ghosting him post-kismesistude. #5 can be seen in his last memo with Karkat, where Karkat starts to wonder if past!Eridan was redflirting with him by inviting him to LOWAA, even as Eridan himself has no idea what the fuck Karkat is talking about.

Thing is, he DOES actually accept rejections once he gets them through his thick skull, which sets him apart from Cronus, who gets rejected, knows it, and keeps going. It's just... Eridan's messy. His emotions are all over the place, and too big for his stupid body, so he's always making things weird and intense.

I blame his lusus, personally. In a previous post, I talk about how a huge factor in his inability to identify negative attention is because he's basically being emotionally neglected. This has also led to his desperation for attention in general. When combined with the trauma from all the murdering and the pressure society puts on him to fit into a certain mold, it leads to some pretty explosive emotional ourbursts, of which his intense, insistent, and downright uncomfortable flirting is a major facet, but also, only a facet.

Animal Divinity in the Bayou

Cajun and Creole mysticism can both be traced, at least in part, to practices which heavily feature animals. The belief that the Earth and her creatures are all one can be found time and time again in many of the magical customs and communities which persist in Louisiana.

This is what my swampy animal messengers mean to me.

Idea for a Miraculous LadybugxRottmnt crossover fic:

Miraculous Ninja Turtles: Rise of Ladybug and Chat Noir

Here’s how it goes:

A month after Hawkmoth first appeared, Master Fu is concerned with the frequency with which Marinette and Adrien’s classmates (as well as people related to them) have been akumatized. Having no other choice, he sends out a mystical message that is supposed to make contact with a clan that in the past were great allies to the order of the miraculous, the Hamatos. Half an hour later, a blue portal materializes in his living room and out come a giant rat man and four teenaged turtles.

Because of the akuma situation, the turtles are given disguise charms so they can enroll in College François DuPont as humans, while keeping their identities as the akuma fighting turtles a secret. Master Fu also keeps from them the identities of Ladybug and Chat Noir, as a precaution.

Here’s what I was thinking in terms of their dynamics with the class:

Leo: mostly hangs out with Kim and Alix, participating in their competitions and showboating (skateboarding, maybe?), he also joins the fencing club (something he is familiar with, but is still entirely different from what he knows) and forms a friendship with Adrien through it, and a rivalry with Kagami later.

Raph: lets his instincts lead him to the only person in class with a strong older sibling, Alya, and by extension Marinette and Nino. Whenever Alya nosedives into danger for her blog, Raph nosedives after her to drag her out. He also gets along great with Ivan (and Milene, though she is a bit intimidated by him) as they bond over being big as all get out guys.

Donnie: while the other three get along, to some extent, with most of the class, Donnie is the only one who will avoid interacting with the class, unless his brothers drag him along or it’s either Max (duh) or Nathaniel, whom he sits next to in the back of the class and will partner up with him for science projects, as he is the one less likely to bother help him with them.

Mikey: he hears the words “troubled teen with mommy issues and a preference for the color yellow” and he latches onto Chloe (and Sabrina) for dear life, telling her what she wants to hear, but in a way that keeps her out of trouble, and busting out Dr. Feelings whenever the need arises. If, for whatever reason, Chloe isn’t available, he will hang out with Rose (and Juleka).

Master Splinter: him and Master Fu get along like old friends. Fu will tell him stories about traveling the world with the miraculous and Splinter will show him his old Lou Jitsu movies and tell him factoids about the filming. They both enjoy each other’s company greatly.

Hero dynamics:

Leo and Chat Noir are fucking insufferable together. Despite becoming friends almost immediately, they can’t help but to bring out each other’s most annoying qualities, which isn’t great for

Raph and Ladybug, who are reaching their wit’s end with the other two, even to the point where they will speak in unison when reprimanding them. There’s a sort of mutual respect between them, both as the ones in charge and as wearers of red.

Mikey is everybody’s friend, he laughs at Chat Noir’s jokes and goes along with Ladybug’s plans, unless Raph has anything to say against it.

Donnie will, for the most part, follow either Raph or Leo’s lead in a fight, as he can’t help but see Ladybug as an inexperienced kid and Chat Noir as one Leo too many for his liking.

Ladybug doesn’t trust the turtles at first, but relaxes when Alya shows her pictures of the day inter-dimensional flesh attacked New York and the turtles that saved the city.

Chat Noir loves them almost immediately, even if Raph gets on his case sometimes, he’s like the responsible older brother that Adrien always wanted.

The shipping:

Raph is an Adrinette shipper, through and through, and will join Alya and the other girls in making it happen.

Leo, despite being her rival, thinks that Kagami and Adrien would make the cutest couple and is constantly arguing with Raph about it, along side

Mikey, who thinks that Luka and Marinette are perfect for each other.

Donnie couldn’t care less about the whole ordeal and is, in fact, working on an anti-love serum out of spite. His work has yet to bear fruit, but his annoyance will keep him on track.

2. Who is your favorite character and why? Was it love at first sight?  Has any of their qualities or quirks swayed you on characters in other series?

Instinctively, Van.

He was my favorite character right from the beggining. And despite I now love the vast majority of characters (for many different reasons), I'm still really attached to him.

WHY ? > Mainly because Van's story is the (painful and challenging) process of a boy growing up to finally become a man.

He has the widest range of emotions through out the series, which makes him very realistic and human.

He is the combination of a Life of Duty, Fight, Revenge with the tough, rebelous and doubtful period of adolescence. These two concepts confront inside him and I just love the dynamic it gives to his character :

- Deep inside, Van is a shy, kind, sensitive, pacifist and simple young man > But must endorse a King role he never aimed to and has to learn to fight and kill if needed.

- He lacks of self confidence, is also very impulsive and wholehearted with his beliefs (he is still a teenager after all) > But has to deal with many adult and overwhelming situations (with other royals, leaders, politics...)

- Physically, he is quite small for his age and pretty puny > But reveals being strenghful, mature (on many aspects) and determined. Plus, very dangerous in critical situations :

When he kills several Zaibach soldiers in Energist mine.

When he slaughters all Dilandau’s soldiers.

When he finds and enters Zaibach invisible forteress 

I just love this contrast !

Gaea is a violent world for his kind soul. But he finally accepts his fate and deals with it the best he can, even if it's too heavy for his young and small shoulders.

He internalizes his suffering most of the time and that's why I sympathize so much for him.

His resilience always impressed me.

> He lost almost everything at the beginning of the story, but manages to overcome the situation. We clearly see Balgus' influence in him. (I always loved Balgus. A strong, stoic, proud but so reliable and very kind man. An excellent father figure for any young becoming man.)

By the way, I love the fact that the promise Balgus made to Hitomi to find a way to send her back home foreshadows Van x Hitomi relationship all over the series until its very end.

" We will find a way to send you back on Mystic Moon." " A Fanelian warrior never lies. "

Indeed, Van never lies to Hitomi. By friendship (and because he genuily understands her sadness for being separated from her family), he takes up the promise Balgus made her...

...and reminds her later (in a bitter way) Even if he is deeply irritated by her presence on the moment, frustrated and full of jealousy towards Allen : he WILL keep his promise.

And he will. Definitely. Despite their mutual love. I don't think many young men would do the same. That's why I find him so special. Was it love at first sight ?   > Here was the very first time I saw him.

Frankly, how can it not be a love at first sight ? I knew nothing about his character, neither the story of ESCAFLOWNE. But I instantanly understood in this scene he was desperatly in love with this girl kissing a "perfect blondie man" and that all his hopes just gone up in smoke ! I felt so bad for him... (I feel the same each time I rewatch this scene.)

(Second dose... In case the viewer would not really get how much his heart is broken !) Honestly... How can a heartbreak be so beautifully portrayed and hurt so hard in a single image !? I also love watching him get irritated and not understanding his own feelings. He saves and protects Hitomi most of the time but, paradoxally, is unable to properly express his love to her. He is so lost on that topic ! To finish : his character taught me a lesson on humanity has a young teenage : > The most dangerous person may not be the one who attacks, cheats, enforces domination or hurts people in the first place.... 

... But the most kind person, pushed to his own limits... (Dilandau just freaked out...) > Everyone can become a monster if pushed too far or blinded by its hatred/anger. We all have violence inside us and it can be easy to give in to it. For all these reasons, I love his character. [ > PART 3 ]

On a silver moonlit pillow’s blissful patch I dreamt nirvana

verses for my sister Jay and our magic mutual bond, that

gem-laden treasure chest, that life support as ironclad rampart

for our twin psyche sparkle, an infinite reciprocal alignment

boldly mocking earthly distance.

This sleep-infused wee small hours tribute I reveal in

wonder world heaven sent passages below.

It takes a sibling to sense her brother’s needs

this day of days when futures are at stake.

School of excellence, end point graduation,

marks assigned by dons with cool detachment.

Ray of light, ray of hope, the twinkle in my sister’s eye

as she scours every moth-infested drawer

within her razor sharp remit.

Advocate sublime, curator, organizer and locator

of an infinite infernal swot.

To do on sticky paper, insight on forgotten file

and other motleys waiting to be culled.

Never fear, my sister’s instinct was seldom wrong on things scholastic.

Abigail Williams SFW Alphabet 🖤

Tw: Angst, Unhealthy relationship dynamics, mention of Abby killing people because of course.

Note: I’ve done Max’s and Zach’s so now onto Abigail’s. A chunk of this has been sitting in my drafts for a while so some of it is kind of outdated probably, just be aware lol.

This can be read platonically or romantically in most cases

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

At first, not at all. Abigail’s a bit shy and even cold if she doesn’t know you well. Once you get past that initial stage though, she actually really loves affection! She is actually incredibly touch-starved but she herself doesn’t know it. Abby barely knows what an actual loving touch feels like to be honest, it’s both frightening and heartwarming all at once.

Doesn’t vibe with too much pda though. She gets too flustered tbh.

B = Best Friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

Any friendship with Abigail starts off slow. She’s even more wary of strangers now than she was in her youth. One thing that’ll help is if you both show vulnerability in some way, it helps her to connect with you and see you as a trustworthy person. Once that’s established it’ll happen naturally. Doesn’t really have any other (living) friends so you’ll become her bestie by default.

To be honest though it’s a little dangerous to be her friend, as while it’s unlikely she’d ever hurt you intentionally… Black magic is black magic, and since she doesn’t really know what a healthy relationship looks like and is known for various degrees of jealousy and a violent/cruel streak, it could become toxic despite her trying to be harmless for you.

But she’s a ride or die friend. Seriously, trust her to bury the body if you kill someone then take you out for icecream later. Only thing is you need to have that same attitude towards her or she might feel betrayed or something. (You might already have some dubious morals if you’re her friend anyway.)

Of course, by far the most interesting side to being close to her is the possibility that she would take you under her wing as a student. Deep down there is a wish to know someone as knowledgeable in mysticism as she is, but for lack of that person she feels some draw towards teaching it, creating her own little protégé. This is also very practical for her; she may even end up living in your house and turning it into a place for rituals and potion-brewing so be careful lol. It might be for the better if this doesn’t happen tbh, because then she might reach further and develop a whole coven, (teaching is pretty addictive for her, and so is growing in power) just as The Organisation feared she would. Maybe then she’d have a chance of surpassing even Lucy, her infamous witch mother.

C = Cuddle (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

Abigail loves loves loves to cuddle! She craves being close and feeling your warmth. It’ll take a while though, so you need to be a little patient here honestly. If you try and get too close too fast she’ll flinch and recoil away instinctively. You both need to go slow at first, and be gentle. If you’re the same way it actually helps oddly enough, because Abby understands and feels less afraid that you’ll mean her harm. Because she’s so angular she isn’t the most comfortable, but she tries.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

Abigail honestly loves the idea of domesticity, but she only keeps it as a distant fantasy in her head. She never knew what it really felt like to have a family that actually loved her so she sometimes thinks about that now and again. It feels like a distant dream for Abby though, so she fools herself into believing she’s happier alone so she can focus on her occult studies. It’s something that’s slowly eroding away the little semblance of humanity she still has left.

She’s a pretty good cook and baker! Her signature is definitely pie. Especially apple pie. It’s kind of relaxing for her since it’s such a mundane task. Don’t be afraid, It tastes and smells nice, if only she had someone to share it with yeah?

Abigail also likes to keep things relatively clean, but it does sometimes get a bit cluttered… She’ll organise everything now and again to make sure it doesn’t get too out of control. Sometimes she does lose things, partially because she doesn’t have a stable home.

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

Abigail goes hard for the commitment so it takes a lot for her to think about ending things unless you do something really drastic yourself. Honestly I could see her as putting up with toxic behaviour in exchange for ‘love,’ just because she needs it that badly, and getting into an extremely dysfunctional dynamic because you’re both terrible for each other. Not that that would end well for anyone involved, of course.

… But if it’s some kind of cheating or betrayal (especially if you help the witch hunters on her tail…), she’ll really have nothing else to say to you. That’s really her limit and breaking point. She won’t hurt you back because there’s a part of her that still loves you, but anything you had is gone now. She’ll leave in the dead of night without a trace. As if she never existed in your life at all. Don’t ever try to go looking for her, it won’t end well.

F = Fiancé(e) (how do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

Abigail really needs commitment in a relationship honestly. She can’t do casual stuff, she could never be vulnerable with someone she doesn’t trust completely.

Abby doesn’t care for a big wedding or anything, she’d rather just elope with you and marry informally, preferably far away from a church. She loves the idea of exchanging rings as a symbol of devotion to eachother, though. She’ll never take hers off. It makes her heart feel strangely warm when she looks at it.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

Abby’s typically very gentle. Soft soft touches like you’re made of porcelain, it literally doesn’t matter how strong/tough you are, if she’s your friend she’ll always try to be cautious with you. It might seem surprising if you’ve ever seen her with… A victim before, since that’s when she’s at her most brutal, physically. She can switch it up in a heartbeat for you, but don’t forget there’s still that vindictive side to her.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

Once again… Making herself physically vulnerable to someone will take time and trust. Especially getting that close. (She remembers the last time she let someone hug her… It didn’t turn out well)

Her hugs are gentle, she seems to be a bit delicate in the way she wraps her arms around you and squeezes just ever so slightly. She’s not always the best at comforting others but she tries. Abby feels a bit bony though so careful of her sharp little elbows.

I = I Love You (How fast do they say the L-Word?)

Abigail loves you before she can even stop herself. Honestly, it’s a 50/50 whether she’s fast or slow to say it. She thinks it over in her head before she says it, like with most things. But those words feel foreign to her; she honestly doesn’t remember if anyone ever told her they loved her. If you say it first, she’ll probably get emotional and say it back immediately. She enjoys saying it to you and hearing it back. It’s a verbal confirmation to her.

Just know you aren’t going back from this if she can help it…

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous)

… Abigail has a jealousy problem, honestly. Borderline possessive, even. In her mind, if you’re in a committed relationship then you belong to her as much as she belongs to you. That might not be the healthiest, but it can be worked on over time. She can be like this with friends too, she has never really had a friend group so it’s hard for her to adjust to one. In the end, she’s just insecure and afraid you’ll leave her. It can be managed better with some time and communication.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

Abigail kisses gentle and soft, whether as a platonic gesture on the head or a romantic one on the lips. She’s a little shy at first, so she visibly blushes afterward. She enjoys it though.

(She might end up leaving lipstick marks behind too… By accident or on purpose? Hmm…)

L = Little Ones (How are they around children)

Abigail’s alright with children as an adult actually. She tends to gravitate towards the quieter, more wallflower types like she was as a kid. She enjoys indulging their curiosity too.

As an aside, children tend to either love her or be afraid of her. Not that she tries to scare them at all, it’s just the way they react to her presence. Especially babies. Just like when she was a kid and she couldn’t hide her true nature as well. It’s a coin toss really.

M = Mornings (How are mornings spent with them?)

Abigail really has her own day and night cycle… But assuming she’s staying in one place with you closeby, she’ll probably adjust out of necessity.

She isn’t a morning person, I’ll tell you that much. Abby also has wicked bedhair, it’s quite comical. She’ll get up and get herself looking how she wants and probably do breakfast if she needs to. Her go-to is pancakes or cereal, but to be honest she’s been known to skip it.

Abigail really lives her whole life at night. At least it feels that way; the day is just time she spends waiting for the sun to go down. At least the natural lighting helps when it comes to art and studying, and the autumn leaves look nice in the light. That’s basically it though.

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

I’ve talked before about her having fun in the graveyard, so I’ll talk about the other stuff.

Mostly, if Abigail is keeping to herself that means she’s doing magic, studying or up to something else you hope won’t backfire… There’s always so much to read and not enough time, so you might have to actually remind her to take a break before she misses both dinner and breakfast the next day.

Long drives at night where she’ll just sit in silence and listen to music. Sometimes she’ll turn off the car and just sit alone in the dark. She thinks a lot during those times. You might never know what about. Abby also likes going to places with music, assuming it’s the kind she likes. She’s pretty selective about it because crowds in any other environment are irritating to her, but basically if they’re playing Sisters of Mercy it’s fine. You’d be surprised by how much she loves dancing too, though you’ve never seen anyone quite move like she does; it’s a bit unnerving. Anyway dance with her, it’ll be fun!

There are times she’ll practically be nocturnal; awake at night and asleep during the day. If you ever wake up in bed and she’s not there, or she’s not in her own bed, it’s probably because she woke up from her dreams again. Late night talks and baking sessions can become a habit if you join her. You might even get a glimpse of what she dreams about.

O = Open (When do they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

Hoo boy… Yeah, this girl has some secrets. Vulnerability, in its truest form, is hard for Abigail. It takes a long time for her to really open up. It sometimes comes in short bursts, like she’ll just say something that might feel out of the blue, but really she’s testing the water to see how you’ll react. If you react in a way she deems good it will help a little, but it’s hard to know how you ‘should.’ Both overreactions and ‘underreactions’ are dangerous, she will clam up if she feels she revealed too much too fast.

Sometimes it’s for your sake as well, or at least she believes that. You might think you know her well, but will you ever know her truly? Perhaps not…

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

Abigail is typically quite a patient and calm person, at least on the surface. She certainly has… A bit of emotional instability, which really shows in moments of distress, rage or when her ego is hurt. Or sometimes she’s just overwhelmed and stressed by something, which can make her frustrated. She’ll feel pretty bad if she snaps at you and you didn’t deserve it, though. Abby will definitely apologise later because she fears ruining your friendship, but that doesn’t mean she won’t do it again tbh.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

Abby prides herself on knowing you well. Like everything you tell her about yourself she carefully stores it away for safekeeping. She kind of studies you, like you’re one of her tomes full of esoteric knowledge or something. Also, if you ever tell her a secret or open up to her about something difficult… She never takes that for granted. She knows herself how hard it can be to make yourself vulnerable to others and trust them in that way, and she would never betray that trust you put in her. She’ll seriously take your secrets to the grave.

R = Remember (What is their favourite moment in their relationship?)

You were both driving around the pitch black, in the middle of winter when it was snowing heavily. Just listening to music in absolute silence. Just enjoying eachother’s company, admiring the scenery outside, all the ice and snow and the moonless night.

Something about that just struck her as special.

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

Abigail may not have the physical capability to protect you or shield you from harm, but know that if you’re her friend, she definitely has the means to hurt and torment them. Seriously, you have this sorceress just waiting for someone to fuck up and warrant a punishment. They’ll probably end up dead if she’s pissed off enough… Hope you’re ok with that. You gotta remember she’s a witch after all, and by befriending her you’ve basically made a pact with someone like the devil. She can teach you, if you like.

She’s shocked if you try to do the same with her, but she definitely feels very touched by it. Suffice to say, Abigail has never really had someone try to protect her before. The fact that you think she’s even worth the effort really means a lot.

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks)

Dates/outings with Abigail can really depend on how you both feel and what you want to do. It can be anything to a fancy dinner to just driving around aimlessly, she’ll enjoy both. Anniversaries don’t matter to her that much tbh, she appreciates your relationship (platonic or romantic) every day anyway.

Abby likes to help you with different things, especially with cooking because she knows she’s good at that. She kinda has the habit of going passively into orbit around you sometimes, just quietly enjoying your company. It can come off as a bit creepy the way she stares at times honestly… Like she’s tryna leech off your positive vibes

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

Um… Aside from the fact that she’s a murderer? And she’s definitely killed innocent people before?? And she’ll probably continue to do so???

A real relationship-killer can be her habit of being so closed off and hiding things. Seriously, it’s a really bad habit, she doesn’t even mean to do it half the time, it’s like she thinks you just don’t need to know, ever. Also some of her jealous and possessive behaviour, I could see that getting out of hand. It needs to be addressed and dealt with immediately while it’s small, or it could become something more insidious… Her idea of what constitutes loyalty is kind of concerning too, because she’d definitely try to get you to do a blood pact tbh. That gets even worse if she takes you on as a student of some kind, because now she needs to make sure you don’t leak her secrets or take advantage of the power she’s bestowed upon you; it’s natural for her to want the upper hand in everything, including your relationship.

Really, there are plenty of reasons why a relationship with Abigail isn’t advisable, too many to list here.

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

A little vain, to be honest. Of course she is, she’s a sorceress! Always likes to have her hair in place and her makeup flawless. She feels a bit naked without it.

(Inside she is more insecure, more self-critical of the strange creature she sees when she looks in the mirror. Her lifeless complexion, all of her ugly scars and all the bones jutting out at odd angles. She hides behind her makeup and fancy clothes; it is a kind of spell she casts, an illusion. If she removes it, will you see the real her, the monster? The vile abomination, see the rot and maggots writhing underneath? Will you leave her, then?)

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

Abigail doesn’t do casual relationships, platonic or romantic. But honestly, sometimes she gets overly attached way too fast, or even projects feelings that aren’t there. She’s the kind to believe in soulmates too. Once you’re in her heart for real, you’re in there forever, until either of you dies.

But this is Abigail we’re talking about here. Even death can’t keep you apart in the end…

X = Xtra: (A random headcanon for them)

Abigail’s attraction to poetry as an art form comes mainly from the fact that she felt like she couldn’t express her feelings to anyone when she was younger. It all comes out in that; a little stereotypical, maybe. She has an easier time writing stuff down instead of saying it sometimes.

If you become her friend/s/o I can see you becoming something of a muse, so expect gifts of artworks she feels are adequate enough. She doesn’t wanna come off as creepy or anything you see, it’s not like she uh watches you constantly or anything…

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)

People not respecting her personal space/privacy, those who can’t keep secrets/are gossipy, pressure to open up before she’s ready, cheating, betrayal

Abigail sleeps like the dead. Once she’s out, she barely moves. She is cold, her heartbeat only faint. Even her breathing slows to an extreme degree. It’s actually slightly unnerving how lifeless she appears. It reminds you that she actually did die, once.

11.  justice  :  does your muse find it easy to be impartial in emotional situations ?

It really depends on who is causing the emotional situation. If it is a conflict in her government between the Stolen Lands and an outside force (such as Pitax), Nona is able to put her own desires aside and come to a conclusion on what is the best solution. However, if it comes to something that involves her friends, she can be a bit of a push over and will do what she can to make her companion happy. For example, when Nortellara comes for Jaethal, Nona refused to allow Jaethal to be killed and pushed for her to pick the sacrifice to Urgathoa that best fit her own desires (rather than pick for her to stay undead or to become living again).

This is also a large part of why she forgives Tristian despite his betrayals. She enjoys his friendship and wants him to be happy, so she puts aside her own feelings of hurt. (I'm glad I wrote her that way though because if I didn't, I wouldn't have had ANYBODY for the councillor role lmao)

12.  the hanged man  :  how open is your muse to new opportunities ? do they constantly look for them or do they simply take whatever comes their way ?

It's not that Nona goes out of her way to find new opportunities so much as it is that trouble comes to her. The closest she got to seeking out trouble on her own was when she was a small child. She got lost in a cave while her parents weren't watching her. However, this was ultimately good as it led to her being rescued by a lampad that left her with the matronly bear that becomes her druidic familiar.

Nona's response to Jamandi Aldori's summons was more of a "why not" then a "let's look for something new to do".

She's more than happy to tag along, but she rarely goes out of her way anymore.

13.  death  :  is there anything in your muse’s life that they should be letting go of ?

The biggest thing in Nona's life (that occurs in game) she should let go of is her grief toward the death of Kesten Garess at the Womb of Lamashtu. She genuinely liked him and felt some attraction toward him. At the very least, she would have loved to have him continue as part of her city guard for Tuskdale or as some part of her army (not as her main general, but at least a captain of some sort).

However, she knew she had to go back to Tuskdale because she didn't have much faith in Jhod to be able to protect the capital and what is a barony without any people? She still had hope as well that Kesten could hold out long enough for her to come back to him. She feels genuine guilt for his death and wonders if she could have convinced him to not go.

Other than Kesten, Nona (in my opinion) could do with being less attached to Brevoy. She has never gone past the River Kingdoms as she was born in a village outside of Winterbreak. This makes Pitax the most exotic place she has ever been. I think if she wants to improve her skills as a Mystic Theurge, she could do with travelling.

She likes to have a general sense of the future. For example, she knows she wants to turn Tuskdale into a cultural hub and will invest into ventures like Linzi's printing house regardless of immediate payoff.

With her personal life though, she prefers to have a vague idea and let instinct take her the rest of the way. She knows she wants to learn as much as she can about the natural world and deepen her connection to the Fey, but she has no concrete plans to do so and being Queen takes up a lot of her attention.

She also wants to work more on ensuring that slavery has no place within her lands, but she largely leaves that to Regongar and Octavia to deal with as she has no personal experience with the problem.
