Woo got Linux working! On a related note I have gotten over any fear of breaking things through the command line and also can now roll back to an earlier system backup. Yes those are related. In my defense, breaking things in interesting ways is a great way to figure out what's actually going wrong.

update: peach is doing very well!! she's eating and sleeping normally (sleeping more than normal, really, but that's to be expected)!! after 3 days of not sleeping and a few changes in painkillers, she finally just napped for an hr then, after another day, slept through the whole night (and most of the next day). she's started following all her usual routines again and is very keen to eat! still on some painkillers, but they're not having any horrific side effects anymore
now that im not staying up to keep an eye on her all night (while also dealing with upgrading my computer and my phone and also my sister preparing to go overseas and the dogs barking and howling constantly due to all of the above), i finally got some decent sleep too and slept for about 14 hrs. so today ive got that weird shakiness that i get from sleeping too much, but hey it's better than the whole of the last week
#personal#and i have a working computer that's finally on windows 10 so that's one less thing to have background stress about#and i have a working phone for the first time in.. a year? 1.5 years? idfk. my previous phone was 16gb so i could fit like 2 apps#could barely take pictures (and couldnt store them) and couldnt update most of my apps because i couldnt update my os because no space#so every app ran slow and then eventually my phone would crash if i opened the storage section of the settings#so i couldnt even offload apps so i could delete them while keeping the data for when i downloaded them again#couldnt order medicine remotely because my chemist only lets you do that from the app (not the website)#couldnt control the aircon because that could only be done through an app#missed loads of stuff because i didnt have email notifications because i could only use my browser for emails#couldnt see tumblr polls on mobile because i couldnt update tumblr because i couldnt update my os#left the house less because i had to delete pokemon go and that genuinely helped me go for walks#ive been dealing with all that for a year so this is very exciting and such a ridiculous qol boost#it sucks how much something like that affects your life. what do you mean i need an app for everythingggg#but god im just glad peach is ok. like there was a moment when i was so stressed trying to update my computer because it wasnt working#and then she ate a small bit of food for the first time in 3 days and just. everything was suddenly fine again#and the other night i spent like 6 hrs just sitting here downloading and installing things on my computer#but it was fine because peach was on the chair next to me sleeping through the whole night and it was such a relief#my sister finally got her flight yesterday (after it was moved four days in a row) so that's just one less thing happening#ive started playing bg3 so that's cool and maybe ill get a chance to actually properly watch that new dav trailer lmao#that premiered at 2am on the first night peach was home from surgery and hadnt eaten or slept yet and i was too stressed to care about dav#and it really just went downhill for the next few days#god. ok. today is the first day i can actually breeaaaathe

I finally got a new desktop PC and broke it in with Kultapossu ja Leo Leijona: Sateenkaarivarkaat and Windows XP Solitaire, both of which somehow run fine on Windows 11
#Kermis plays video games#I'll get to more demanding gaming once I get more essentials installed#Win 11 Paint refused to start until I downloaded a bunch of OS updates which was weird since it's like an essential part of Windows to me#but yeah it works now. as does Win XP Paint since I have that lying around as well

If Windows doesn't STOP automatically installing updates during my working hours without asking or even informing me while I am already in the middle of updating an application I'm going to drive to the Microsoft headquarters and throw my gaming laptop through a window
#ive been trying to play bg3 for AN HOUR AND A FUCKING HALF and still havent even been able to get steam to OPEN#bc steam decided it needed to update itself#and then windows decided it was going to start updating itself WHILE the steam update was installing#so the steam update took an entire fucking hour and now even after the steam update finished it still wont open#and the windows update is still fucking taking forever#i decided to play bg3 at 4:30#it is currently fucking 6:00 and i STILL havent been able to even start#if this takes so long that i dont even get to play the game before i have to start getting ready for bed im going to set something on fire#rambling

trying to solve any tech problem on a computer is like the hardest task in the world and everywhere you look people are saying the same 3 things that you obviously have already done
#anyway if any1 knows how to fix windows 11 not allowing android phones to transfer files through usb that would be awesome#i restarted both devices. deleted and reinstalled every driver. ran updates. turned on phones developer mode and changed the default usb#settings. tried a different usb cabel and usb port. ran some fix command through elevated command prompt. and installed an inf file#plus more that i dont remember because its been like a month and i still have not found a single solution#i also ran troubleshooting#i also have tried multiple phones so its not my phone. and the usb has a set address failed or device descriptor failed request. code 43#trinket reflects#ive been in and out of every forum site possible for hours and days im so tired i need to get the pictures off this phone so i can reset it#and cloud backup doesnt do its job at all that onedrive doesnt even have like half the photos on it evn though i set it for all folders

So my new hella expensive dishwasher was delivered today. Damaged. With the top caved in. So now I have to CALL SOMEONE (the horror) about it instead of them just shipping me a new one. I hate it here.

#tech support#win 10 pro#captain's log#win error says is a nvidia problem but i looked at the event viewer and the error shown is distributioncom 10005#which all the tutorials say its a Windows Search problem#but even then i can get a permanent fix for this problem#already updated all nvidia drivers and installed all system's updates..... idk what else to do T^T#i some times get to log in but then it freezes and i can't type or move my cursor to change anything

Peering at my laptop on my desk to see what's going on bcos bubbles is on my bed cuddling into my arm
#i uninstalled the last QOL update and that enabled me to do the 'windows start troubleshooting' thing#and that stayed on a screen that said 'attempting repairs' for a While like up to an hour maybe#and now its booted back to the windows 10 install bcos the usb is still plugged in#but fucking HOPEFULLY i can choose to continue to windows 10 and my laptop will be working#if it loops again. im killing

it's so frustrating to turn on my computer every day with the hope it'll be fixed but nope... sound still off, audio hardware is still not being read
and there's nothing wrong! That's the worst part. There's nothing wrong with the drivers or settings, there's nothing wrong with the socket or my headphones... it's all because the latest windows update fucked something up! So my only hope now is that they'll release a new update that will somehow fix it cause otherwise I will be permanently on mute forever
#other people on the internet who had the same problem as me said it was fixed randomly one day#and given that the problem appeared randomly one day that's the safest bet#but i can't watch stuff or listen to music or even play videogames with sound because THERE'S NONE#i'm so sick of fucking windows!#and i had problems like this before#i spent an ENTIRE TWO MONTHS with my laptop who would install updates when i turned it off#and then uninstall them when i turned it on the next morning because ''something went wrong''#two months of this every single day#it would take my laptop 20 minutes to shut off and like 40 to turn back on because of that one stupid update that wouldn't install#untill a new one was released and it fixed it... out of nothing#i hate this#angel talks#personal

well i guess i can play bg3 now, assuming it finishes downloading sometime in the next 2 months
#personal#despite following many people who are very into it i still know absolutely nothing about what it's about#like i know the premise of the brain tadpoles but that's it#i definitely need to do something fun after the last few days of supervising peach#(update: after not eating or sleeping for 3 days she is now doing both! she's very hungry and very tired and im very relieved)#but also after the last 6 hrs of just non-stop downloading and installing things. windows is sooo bad for upgrading#all the dai dlc probably has another 20-30 mins left and then ive finished all the da games and also all my modding tools#i think im actually not bothered even transferring my old saves for the da games. i never go back once ive finished a playthrough#i guess the only thing is if i wanna play da2 before next playing dao and have to use a custom worldstate hm#the only other thing is that dao doesnt connect online anymore so i have no achievements or rewards for completing dlc#it wouldnt be too hard to find my user profile file on my old hard drive but i almost wanna start from scratch and see how long it takes#the thing with that tho is that it's probably the worst (or maybe best lmao) game to have my achievements reset#because it takes a minimum of 6 playthroughs to get all achievements (assuming you finish every game you start)#for da2 it's 3 (reach kirkwall with each class) and for dai it's 1#but dao has an achievement for each origin and even other than that there are achievements for filling each ability tree#(min 5 playthroughs of the base game or 3 with awakening) and all romances (4) and all endings (3 i think)#anyway. whatever i'll decide later. the only utility of achievements are the dlc ones that unlock items#huh this is a post about bg3 and i spend most of the time talking about da#anyway bg3 currently says 2 hrs remaining but that'll probably speed up once the dai dlc finishes. only have trespasser left#and whatever tf 'english voice over pack' is??

Update on the pc issues: the Mainboard is dead! Everything else still works, so that is great!!

it’s finally getting cold enough that i can bring my cardigan collection back into rotation without feeling like i’m gonna melt into a puddle the second i step outside!!!
#Seven.txt#my face#i have rematerialized back out of the void to once again make my once-in-a-blue-moon selfie & life update post#i’m running on 4 hours of restless sleep and the single banana i ate for lunch earlier today. let’s do this#hrrrrg i hate the lighting in my bathroom but i refuse to take pictures in the absolute Mental Illness Disaster Zone™️ that is my bedroom#anyways. got diagnosed with Mystery Pain Syndrome at the dentist today. so now i take ✨steroids✨#the less funny explanation is that my tooth still hurts with pressure nearly a month post-root canal and That’s Not Good#so we’re trying some new medications to see if that fixes it. and if not then who knows. root canal pt.2 the sequel. or extraction. sigh#and so the Dental Saga continues. todays visit went quite well in spite of the unforeseen mystery pain delaying the tooth-shaving plans#we had some time to kill so he managed to fill some of my other tiny cavities while i was there today so that’s good#okay moving on. what else. uhh.
