My Long, Spoilery Review for Inside Out 2
Despite me having decided to wait for Inside Out 2 to drop on Disney Plus before seeing it, the quantity of clips circulating on social media made it absolutely impossible to stay spoiler-free until the next three months or so, and since critique and public alike seemed to really like this movie, I decided I wanted to see the whole thing before I got spoiled for good. I know I probably played the Big Mouse Game by doing so and I’m not happy about it, but from a storytelling standpoint, Inside Out 2 did deserve to be enjoyed as a whole.
‼️ATTENTION SPOILERS AHEAD‼️
The movie is as good as everyone makes it out to be. The new emotions didn’t feel like they came out of nowhere like I initially thought (except for Nostalgia, which I found forced and mildly annoying) and the new concepts, like Riley's Sense of Self, are brilliant. One of my favorite scenes was Joy visiting the place where the Sense of Self is kept along with Sadness. I liked how the topic of Anxiety was handled in a non-clichy way, and how she wasn’t made to be the villain, but in the end, she turned out to care about Riley just as much as Joy and the other emotions did. The only reason why she bottled them up was why she genuinely believed they were getting in her way of helping Riley. The pacing of the movie seems a little fast as first, but the idea of setting it during a three-days hockey camp is the perfect timeframe for the story they wanted to tell: a new situation, but still, not one that could have consequences in the “real world” if you get what I mean. I found it to be the perfect scenario to tell how things that might seem “the end of the world” to us, in the end are not actually that serious. In the end, this isn’t one of those movies that makes you say “I like the sequel better than the original” but rather “this continuation is so natural, it feels like first and second movie are two parts of a whole.” Pixar is building a way more solid franchise than anything Disney has done recently - I consider the two studios two separate entities - and if this level of quality is being kept, I actually wouldn’t mind an Inside Out 3.
Now, for the things I liked less.
The emotions were too “personified” if this makes sense. I didn’t like the fact that emotions can somehow feel emotions themselves (e.g. Anger stating that “He can’t always be angry”, or Joy stating that it’s hard for her to be positive all the time). I didn’t also like the fact that emotions can apparently have feelings for each other. I perceived an unsettling intention of pairing up Riley’s emotions from the creators of this movie. Sadness with Embarrassment, Joy with Anger, heck even Fear with Anxiety (“I can change her”? Really?) I don’t know what the creators were trying to do here. Non-canon ships are fine, they’re the soul of every fandom, but when they’re being fed to you by the creators themselves, it comes off as weird. Disgust simping over Lance Slashblade was a fun gag, but trying to imply the emotions could get together as couples was really not. And speaking of forced things, I feel the inclusion of mixed-technique animation to be somewhat forced and proof that both Disney and Pixar are falling behind in terms of technical innovation. At this point, it’s clear they they are no longer the standard for Western animation.
My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5

Inside Out 2 was decent (possible spoilers)
Okay so I don't really get hyped for Inside Out 2 as much as everyone else does, but I'm not denying that it was a cute movie, it had it's pros and cons. It's nothing special, though. I enjoyed the fist one and I love the new characters in the sequel. I'll start with the pros because there's more cons.
Okay, so I mostly love how they didn't push any romance tropes, other than Disgust hitting on that video game guy (that i noticed Anger and Fear kind of checking him out as well) and personally I think giving Disgust a love interest was out of character for her, but it worked. I mean, she's usually disgusted at everything but seeing a hot purple hair anime warrior calms her down. I actually LOVE how they had Riley crush on a video game character an not a boy at her school, I was so happy about that. Those of you who wanted Riley to be lesbian, I'm so sorry! I'm okay with that personally, even though I support LGBT, because I think it's more relatable for me the majority of girls watching that they didn't make her a lesbian. Maybe Disney will make a lesbian protagonist someday? And if not, maybe a better movie company will! Also, there's no romance between any of Riley's emotions, yay! It doesn't make sense if there was! Also, I like how they referenced to Dora the explorer in a funny, lighthearted way, instead of making fun of it in an offensive way. I hate when people make fun of innocent kids shows to be offensive, I really think they referenced to Dora just for laughs. Also, Anxiety's a decent character. I like her, personally. I like the idea of Disney not having real villains anymore, because not everything is just pure bad or good. Anxiety was just an antagonist and it's okay, she also got redemption too.
Now for the cons... and this is gonna be long. Okay, I DO NOT SUPPORT DISNEY! I mean, I don't think this movie should be the thing that brings Disney/Pixar back from their dark ages, but I'm not hating on the Inside Out 2. I do think it's overrated. My biggest complaint was the fact that THEY STOLE CHARACTER DESIGN FROM ANOTHER MOVIE and here's the pictures to prove it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, that dark secrets character looks almost exactly like Dark from Orion and the Dark, a movie that came out BEFORE Inside Out 2! and those of you saying "but they were working on both movies at the same time" WRONG! The movies were released at least 4 months apart and Disney does often rush their recent projects like they rushed the making of Wish! Another thing, the human animations in Inside Out 2 looked a little less rendered, while the emotion animations and facial expressions were PERFECT! Also, is it just me or does Riley sound younger in this sequel than she did in the first one? Which it doesn't make sense since she went through puberty, right?
In conclusion, the story is pretty decent but I don't think it's worth spending money to see in theaters. If you really desperately want to see it in theaters, fine! I prefer watching it online and don't forget that the free websites exist. The illegal copy of the movie (you know, the hidden camera recorded version with the slot machines) is on the free websites like Actvid and Kisscartoon. Go ahead and watch it on there if you're like me and you're just watching it because of extra free time, and you don't really want to give your money to the Big D.
Anyway, I'm basically neutral on this movie, feel free to state your opinion. Again, I'm not a Disney fan and yet I'm not denying that this was an okay-ish movie. I just don't think it's worth seeing in theaters when you can watch it online for free and Disney won't be robbing you.

Inside Out 2 (2024)
Well, the easy thing to say is - if you enjoyed the first one, you'll LOVE the second one.
The premise is simple: Riley, now 13, is experiencing some new emotions she hasn't before: Anxiety, Embarrassment, Envy, and - my personal favorite - Ennui.
Very much in line with the first one, this visit to Riley's mind is funny, dangerous, and filled with learning experiences. And much like the first one, emotions re-learn that extremes can be unhealthy. The need to find the balance, and the work that it takes on both sides of the pendulum to agree on what it looks like, is the journey we walk along with Riley.
Definitely a very fun second ride on this roller coaster.
Mi Opinión: Don't Miss It (3 out of 3).
He Dicho.

Okay, so I watched Inside Out 2 at like 5 am this morning. And I have to say that the movie isn’t bad! I just expected more to happen. Like Riley having a crush on a boy from her hockey team or something? And maybe add more to the girls that were gossiping about her?
I just feel like they could’ve added a bit more to the story to develop her character even more. Makes me wonder if we’ll get an Inside Out 3 or something.
Have any of you seen Inside Out 2? If so, what did you think about it? And what stuff would you add in if you could?
I have to say, my favorite emotion is Joy. She’s a very complex character and I loved her character development in this! She seems to understand the good and the bad side of things, which is why she’s one of my favorite characters. ♥️

Goodness, these are some pretty heavy movies, let me tell ya.
Inside Out is very much about the birth of melancholy, and Inside Out 2 is all about that monster known as puberty. That joke at the end of the first movie is no longer funny now, isn't it?
I'll tell you what, these movies makes me feel both joyous and anxious, but in a good way, because I love these characters so much I don't want to see anything bad happen to them, and when it does it's genuinely sad.
You don't need me to tell you if they're good, because of course they are, nor do you need me to recommend them, because you've likely already seen them. Great movies. Great concept. Greatly executed. Great. Go watch them again. Show Pixar this is what we wanna see, and no more Toy Story spin offs.

Inside Out 2 review
It's a rare thing to have a Pixar sequel that's as good as the original. Now, would I say Inside Out 2 is better than the original? Uuuhhh...no. Not really. Do I still think that it's an incredible film that does right by its predecessor? Absolutely.
For one thing, it doesn't conveniently forget the main character's arc from the first movie. Joy no longer passive-aggressively dismisses Sadness for being "useless." She treats the latter like an equal now, even letting her go on an important assignment.
The movie's message is also unique in how it's not "every emotion is important" and more about self-love. And what I really appreciate is that they don't tell you to practice self-love. They show you how to self-love. They find a way to perfectly visualize how being too hard on yourself is bad for you and how to treat yourself nicer. True, it's probably the only movie that can visualize that, but still it's so refreshing. Really hit home for me (I cried a little but not a lot because I'm a man [totally]).
Speaking of emotions, they're all just as entertaining and fun as they were before. There's a scene with Joy and Anger that particularly stands out. I love the new emotions too. Well...most of them, but we'll to that in a bit. Ennui and Embarrassment are both huge moods. Anxiety steals the show by a landside. She's funny, she's relatable, and she makes a great antagonist without being a "bad guy." She has her place in Riley's mind, she just doesn't exactly know what it is yet and is trying to do what she thinks is best.
Cool transition alert, Riley feels more like a...character in this? In the first movie she felt more like a vessel for the emotions, while here she feels way more independent and her own person rather than just an extension of the emotions (which is actually a major theme in the story).
The movie is also very funny. I'd even say it's more funny than the first. (Riley's hidden secrets are a huge highlight).
Now, what's holding Inside Out 2 from being better than the first movie to me? Well, let's get the minor nitpick out the way, I don't like Fear's new voice. Tony Hale's doing a fine job, but it does not sound like Fear. Which is weird because Disgust's new voice sound fine. Could they have not found someone else who sounded a bit more like Bill Hader? Like, there's gotta be a voice double you have on speed dial somewhere.
Now for actual criticisms, Envy. I like the concept behind the character. I like the design of the character. I do not like how they use this character. She doesn't really feel like "Envy" to me. The movie mostly just treats her as second-in-command to Anxiety. There's a few moments where she acts more envious, but it feels more like the movie is trying to remind us who she is rather than having her be consistent throughout. By the way, I'm gonna get into some spoilers, just to let you know.
SPOILER WARNING! ABANDON YEE WHO BE WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE!
That scene where Joy breaks down and Anger helps reinvigorate her spirits comes way too early. Which makes the scene where Joy is at her lowest moment and doesn't know what to do get resolved way too quickly.
Joy's arc in this one seems a bit undercooked. Like, I can see an inkling of her starting to believe that she's useless in Riley's growing mind, but it's only an inkling that gets resolves anyway.
Another arc, a story one, of the emotions learning to let Riley grow and develop on her own is also not fully developed. The movie tells us that's what the characters learn but like...did they? I like the idea, I like the resolution, I just didn't see the build-up. And if it was there, it was not that noticeable.
But while I had some complaints, I think the positives outweigh the negatives. This is an excellent Pixar sequel and I would not mind (HA!) if this became their new big franchise. I just hope that Disney doesn't learn the wrong lesson from this film's destined success and starts pumping out sequels like crazy.

Saw Inside Out 2. I’ll just be brief.
Anxiety should not be portrayed as any kind of sympathetic character—only a villain. There is no sense in which anxiety is a useful or necessary emotion, unlike Sadness, or even Fear. However, these movies have not gotten anny emotion’s “definition” exactly right—and maybe they can’t. When you look too closely at the fact that your emotions are experiencing emotions, the whole movie starts to unravel, so whatever.
“Your emotions don’t get to choose who you are.” <- That’s correct. However. It begs the question: what does? And the movie doesn’t answer that question. Riley’s “Sense of Self” comes from her “memories of past actions.” And what influenced those actions? …her emotions. So in a roundabout way…yes, her emotions did get to decide “who Riley is.”
3. It is not good that the only parts of the “System of Belief” that are explored in the movie are the ones that factor into “Riley’s Sense of Self.” Your belief system should not be all about you. In ANY case. Where are the threads of “What Riley Believes About Her Parents/Friends/Enemies?” Why is it, when she and another girl helps a new girl pick up her stuff, the belief she takes away from that scene is “I’m a Good Friend?” Why isn’t it, “This girl Bri stood up to help too; Bri is a good friend.” Why’s everything Riley believes centered around herself? Why are beliefs in this movie never about something bigger or more important than herself—or even just beliefs about others?
See, that’s what leads to anxiety. And panic attacks. Pride. Pride is not just “thinking well of yourself.” It’s “thinking about yourself above all else, at all.” You become so obsessed with who you are and how you feel and what you can’t control that you can’t even see anything else. And that’s the sad thing. Joy replaces Anxiety’s “potential scenarios” with positive ones…but they’re all still about Riley. She just changes, “what if Riley fails?” to “what if Riley succeeds?” It’s still a what if—still about what Riley can control. And it’s still about Riley. Riley, Riley, Riley.
Where’s the helping hand that comes from outside of Riley? Nowhere in this movie.
Self-love is nonsensical. Love is inherently selfless. It does not consider ‘the self.’
So ending your movie with “yeah here’s Riley, she acknowledges that she wants to be good but she isn’t, and that’s okay!” is just…empty. Meaningless. Okay, so your message is “you are who you are, who knows why, just accept it and love it!” What? No. When you realize you’re deeply flawed, and you can’t be what you want to be, that’s the moment for you to reach the end of yourself and look outside of yourself for answers.
This drivel that our society keeps pushing is “you are all you need.” And it’s not true. And it makes no sense. Don’t you for one second believe it.
Truthfully, they should’ve just not made a second Inside Out movie.
