Notes:
I am seriously proud of the variety in my workouts this last month. This might not seem like a big deal to a lot of people, but if you’ve known me a long time, you know how stuck I was in only running for yeeeears. It’s so much better for my mind and body to do something a little bit different every day. After the first of the year I will also incorporate online dance classes; I’m only waiting because it’s one of the only times I still feel ankle twinging, when I try to do too much feet twisting on the dance floor.

Warranty replacement for my Kickr arrived. Everything is set up for my recovery except for a bike 🤦🏻‍♂️ My build has been further delayed but the shop has offered me a demo bike to use in the interm which is a nice gesture. Will try and pick that up this weekend.

Less than 4 weeks until our cycling trip. The weather was iffy today and I didn’t want to have to clean my bike/get rained on AND I wanted to watch Three Body Problem so I knocked out four hours on the trainer 🤯. It felt remarkably easy - probably because I fuelled well (approx 66g of carbs/hr) and went by RPE rather than power. Dan joined me for two hours - we had two fans going and the sliding doors open because of all the heat we were generating. The BT headphones ran out of juice at 3h30m and the show actually ended at 3h44m, but my previous longest indoor ride was 3h45m and I wanted to beat that so I kept going.

Day 4 of 5 day workout week:
Over the hump and on to day 4! It is a rainy, cloudy, Fall-like day and I ain’t mad at it one bit! Although, my boxer-beagle isn’t too happy. No walk and no fetch, makes Nico a sad boy (see sad Nico below). But, we played indoors and there were several different top notch treats involved, so we’ll call it even! 😉
After yesterday’s high impact sweat-fest, I needed to train at a lesser impact, but with similar calorie burn. I feel fortunate to have an indoor cycle and an elliptical to incorporate into my daily fitness options. Not only was it a nice change of pace, but also the calorie burn did not disappoint! I burned over 100 kcal on the bike and over 200 kcal on the elliptical! Well over my 300 kcal goal. And, I gave the joints a rest from impact. It felt like a good plan of attack today! I hope your day went well and you found the energy to get moving! You’re so worth it! 🫶🏽

The weather is not inviting for riding outside yet... Cold and wet, with ice on the road here and there. I am training on Zwift lately, I am halfway through the "road to the sky" challenge for February.
Getting slowly better at pacing myself on the climbs and managing my gear shifts. Unfortunately I still need to get my nutrition strategy right... I didn't have any carb-intensive snacks today so I almost bonked and the last 15 KMS were quite the challenge. I need to have some emergency candy or some gels at hand to get out of the carb slump. Hydration worked well however, i had at least one liter of water (sweating a lot because indoors there's no air to cool me down) with some magnesium and salts tablets. Feeling sore but not cramped.

Another day of All The Things today. But whoops on going 4 days without logging. Honestly, I am questioning why I am logging at all, really, other than some sense of accountability? I think I am just not sure what I want my blog to be yet. The idea was it is about my life, period, and that includes workouts. I guess I will figure it out as I go.

I forgot to post dinner until I was halfway through eating it, 😂. 2 delicious hamburger patties prepared by my wife, cheddar cheese melted on top. Salad of lettuce with an olive oil & mustard vinaigrette with apple cider vinegar (sweetened with Allulose and citric acid.
I’d had lunch with a former student earlier , spinach salad with bacon, and two fried eggs on the side.
I spent 90 minutes working out - 45 minutes on the Peloton bike and 45 minutes stretching but also some barbell weights.

Saturday evening I did a 90 minute endurance ride. It was another one of those rides that I didn’t really want to do, specially after an early morning run directing at parkrun but I had a nap, sucked it up and got on the bike. Naturally, once I got going I was fine.

Today was a two headband kind of day. I was doing 6x8 minute intervals between 90 and 99% and knew it would be a sweaty one. Having a fresh headband to change into half way through was really nice.
