Hi everyone, due to some unfortunate circumstances around my housing situation I am rehoming my Indian fantail mix, Sophie.

I adopted Sophie as a female but based on behavior I believe him to be male. Estimated age 3-4 years old. The rescue also said that Sophie had been bonded with another bird when he was brought in but the companion bird did not survive.

Sophie is a very chatty, curious, and social bird. He loves to fly around to different perches and coo and dance for just about anyone. He's also a very cuddly bird and loves being pet in his crate.

I'm located in Portland, OR. I'm only able to do local pick up but I am willing to drive to meet up if necessary. DM if you have any questions or want more information.

Edit: people keep asking why im holding her like this. Holing a pigeon in one hand means securing both the feet and wings. Just about any other hold can hurt her or have her fly away. Ill admit im not holding her the proper way, but this is still better than grasping just the legs, wings, head or tail.

as someone with a pigeon, id also say keep it! i dont know much about wood pigeons but based on my knowledge of pigeons themselves, i can assume that itd struggle out on its own. pigeons are often naturally curious and bond easily with humans (from my experience) and raising one from a young age definitely will contribute to that. they make great pets if you're aware of how to take care of them! they're a lot easier than parrots and other similar birds.

keep in mind they are very dusty birds during molting season and just in general! if you have an allergy to dust, then you may struggle. i have a dust allergy and had to move my lovely lady out of my room because it was making me sick.

i need help D:

so i recently found this baby wood pigeon fallen out of the nest, about 14-17 days old, there was no way to get it back in + magpies seemed to be lurking around it, so we decided to take it in ourselves, considering theres no rehabs or vets that would around me. (bird flu concerns and also. it's a pigeon)

i've been feeding it and keeping it warm, we know what we're doing on that front, the only problem is releasing once they're old enough.

i've been keeping contact to a minimum, so only for feeding really, in hopes that they won't become habituated, but my main issue is the fact that i'm not sure if they CAN be released.

will they know normal pigeon behaviours and be able to communicate with their own kind? will they be able to find food in the wild? since they've been reared by pigeon parents for the first 14 or so days of their life, i'm hoping the answer is yes, (but if not, i'm prepared to take on responsibility for them.)

if this is beyond your realm of expertise i'd appreciate any followers of yours to weigh in, ty :)

Excuse the ugly lamp glare but i drew another fantail today. Id like to make this into a sticker so keep an eye out for it in the future. This is an indian fantail pigeon lined with a #10 pigma micron, staedtler tri liners, and colored with ohuhu markers.

hello. pidgeons seem cool. would you be willing to share a few pieces of info on them

- all of the pigeons you see stereotypically in cities are fully domesticated! those are feral pigeons. legitimately some people who keep pigeons just grab them off the street sometimes. the WILD version of the domesticated pigeon is the rock dove n they look basicallyyy identical. still cool though

- pigeons and doves are the same thing. there's no taxonomic difference between them, it's something we made up for different species (most species in the genus are just commonly called pigeons though)

- pigeons are not always sad and gray. behold

Soooo I caved in pretty hard when it came to your wine and feathers au (I adore them all! Just so so cute!!) 😭 I surprisingly had the perfect little bird to use and sketch designs of! (Also note I don't know how to draw birds... yeahhhh)

So here they are!! (with different color varieties) they are inspired by the Indian Fantail pigeon so they are a little lady OH! They also go by she/they! I currently do not have a name for her just yet. Anyways despite her "professional" appearances she is a motherly sweetheart she adores children and loves being a fandancer, at her old job (which will be redacted) she tended to children and wishes to have some of her own day. She was removed from her job due to certain complications regarding her species and now resides at the casino as a performer! (very original) Also last little note as much as I love the brothers and favor them HEAVILY, I love cowboys more! 🫶 so I wanna ship them with Toby so badlyyyyyy he needs more love too! Whoa. Whoa! WHOA!!! PRETTY!!!! Love the design and story!! Such BEAUTIFUL color schemes, too!! Hope this doesn't come off rude, but I think I like brown and green one best! Not saying the other isn't gorgeous, but I'm just a sucker for brown+green palettes!! Just look at Toby!

(This is my personal opinion on what their tails would look like)

For gold/ethan it would be a mix between the phoenix goldfish and the fantail goldfish, all to REALLY add some flare to his personality y’know? especially since The Fantail is a goldfish that possesses an egg-shaped body, a high dorsal fin, a long quadruple caudal fin, and no shoulder hump. It is similar to the Ryukin, and is relatively common in western countries. The Fantail Goldfish is the base for many fancy goldfish species. and the Phoenix goldfish - It is similar to the eggfish, except that they have longer fins. It is developed from the eggfish goldfish. They have long tails and fins that resemble a veil and cause them to be slow-moving. They are prone to fin nipping because many other fish are attracted to their long flowing fins.

Silver on the other hand, he would most likely be a siren, so his would be the barracuda mixed with a great white shark, to which when you think about it his siren song would lead poor unfortunate folks to their doom if he does sing and as the only siren he would feel a bit insecure about it too… since sirens are known to be feared deities of the sea and he is a mix between a barracuda and a great white shark since well… The great white shark, also known as the white shark or white pointer, is a large mackerel shark that lives in the coastal waters of all the world's major oceans. It is the only known surviving species of its genus, Carcharodon. Great white sharks have a conical snout, large pectoral and dorsal fins, and a crescent-shaped tail. Their backs and sides are dark blue, gray, or brown, while their bellies are whitish and Barracudas are large, predatory fish with a slender, cylindrical body that allows them to move through the water easily. They are shiny blue-gray above, fading to silver and white below, and usually have dark spots on their lower sides. Barracudas are also known as the "Tiger of the Sea" because of their sharp teeth and strong jaws. They are solitary predators that live in reefs and shallows in the Caribbean and Florida so it would make sense for poor silver to be a mix between two aquatic predators

I feel like Kris would have the powder blue tang as a fish tail which would mean she would have a diurnal activity. And although she is social but serious in her nature. As for the fact that she's brave and does everything to help others, the fish itself is solitary, territorial and aggressive with other surgeonfish. In cases where food is plentiful, it may feed in shoals, but in cases of scarcity, and just like said fish she may compete individually for food and may use her surgeon's scalpel as a defensive weapon. A bit of a bonus due to Acanthurus leucosternon, commonly known as the blue surgeonfish, powder blue tang or powder-blue surgeonfish, is a species of marine ray-finned fish belonging to the family Acanthuridae, the surgeonfishes, unicornfishes and tangs. This species is found in the Indian Ocean. So she would mostly be at home in the Indian oceans

Then last but not least, Lyra! The mahi-mahi would DEFINITELY fit her if she was a mermaid especially since fish is recognizable by its bold gold-and-green coloration that is accented with patches of blue and silver. Mahimahi vary in size and weight, males being larger than females on average, Males have a large, protruding forehead, whereas the head of females are more round and males being larger than females on average, which would make her smaller then some guys with gold and silver being the exceptions to being smaller then her. Fully grown adults often measure 1 meter (3.3 feet) long, the largest individuals growing to 2.1 meters (7 feet) in length. Adults weigh about 14 kg (31 pounds); however, many mahimahi are heavier. The largest mahimahi landed weighed 39.5 kg (87 pounds). And just like The mahi-mahi, also known as the common dolphinfish, she would a ray-finned mermaid that lives in tropical, subtropical, and temperate waters. The name mahi-mahi comes from the Hawaiian language and means "very strong". The fish she has the tail of is known for its iridescent coloring and is popular for commercial and sport fishing. Mahi-mahi is a popular seafood item and can be found in restaurants and seafood markets around the world
