just so you guys know. joseph shot up from (around) ninth place to THIRD in two days. because there's a massive push from the cn server to go onto global and mass vote for him to put him in first. maybe the vote counts are "accurate" but they're not legitimate. even if this isn't bot voting, it's certainly not fair. nobody is happy with this.
even if joseph doesn't win this year, it sets a dangerous precedent for future years if netease doesn't actually do anything about these dummy accounts who are being mass-created and sent to vote for joseph. i know there's only so much they can do but it's not comforting that the best they have is this lukewarm twitter announcement and ten memory spheres.

Love this interview... I have been semi-checking in on Zawe's journey since before certain stans were feeling some kinda way about her recent familial additions. I do for certain Black actors/creators especially, who seem to be moving in interesting ways in entertainment/film media...
-A remnant from a period when I used to go to screenings and blog about films (and was published a few times in a major national newspaper)... So, I knew of Zawe through the grapevine of her mentorship, i.e. she is the reason why Rege Jean Page of Bridgerton fame got to work in U.S. markets, as she sponsored him. And she is known, as one of those "good eggs" who will be accessible and help/advise especially young actors of color. ...But, I have some other stuff to say. This isn't about proving that she's an amazing human being. It's about a certain brand of misogynoir that some of these people far beneath her in self-knowledge, self-love, and just plain grown-ass-woman-personhood...keep letting fly in what they *think* are compliments, but actually are just trite microaggressions. Saying things like "as long she makes [T-blank H-blank] happy then she's alright" as if he's the centered human and her attachment renders her worthy somehow. Babies, as long as SHE'S happy. Yall. He's marrying up.
WAY UP and the fact that he knows this? Actually elevates him. She's been there.
She tells a story in the above interview that reminds me of Uzo Aduba's anecdote about her name , - of an incident when she was called to an early job (at 6!) and someone there said she wasn't pretty because of her gap and her Ugandan mother took her on past this person and into the room, ANYWAY.
... She learned a specific self-knowledge and self-love, that is necessary in very white western spaces that constantly pressures a narrow sense of worthiness and beauty, especially from Black women, something a lot of these small-minded stans don't even have a notion of seeing beyond. Zawe is biracial, and her features, aside from her skin tone are very African. So while she benefits from colorism, featurism is something I've seen those bigoted stans, pick on as well. She knows those features are what makes her beautiful and knew that, w/o and before her partner saw that too. And people who aren't blind narrow-minded ignoramuses can *also* see that. This is why I assert the fact of featurism needing to be in the conversation of light/dark privilege conversations. Lips, nose, gap, and even the set of her eyes are ethnic beauty markers within quite a few spaces in the Black African diaspora... My mom was an absolute stunner because of her gap.
Even the old school white model Lauren Hutton got there because of her gap. Uzo Aduba, who I have already mentioned has a deeper skintone and has similarly large round striking eyes, gap, and a non-pinched-nose *rightly* played Glinda in NBC's production of The Wiz a few years back, with Dorothy saying she's so beautiful *because* of those features, not despite them as a very narrow white-washed gaze would wrongly assert.
Tumblr media
And while we're here that includes sizes and shapes too. I'm saying your boy is enjoying all that plush. A lot of yall need to read or reread Maya Angelou's Phenomenal Woman, for comprehension.
Anyway... All this to say I know Zawe is and will be fine regardless.
P.S. Maya Angelou *also* had height, and gap and was very much known for her beauty/magnetism as a woman when she was alive. :

I wish there was more steddie time travel fics. Where steddie travels back all the way to season one. Maybe both or one of them. Actually both because the comedic potential. Like Steve and Eddie trying to change things and save the day. And anyone who sees them sneaking around thinks they are in a secret gay relationship. Nancy has this whole theory that her boyfriend is gay and sneaking off with Eddie Munson. Reason why he's being distant and hiding things. And on one hand she's not wrong, because steddie has so much unresolved sexual tension that one is oblivious to and the other is to afriad to admit to. But on the other hand is she way way off.
okay tbh, as great as that would be, i don't think everyone would immediately jump to the gay thing. if this is during steve's kingly days, he's got enough sway and popularity that people would bend over backwards to prove he's a Normal Straight American Boy.
what i think would be more likely, considering he throws those parties and is a good athlete, people would assume he's either developing an addiction on something OR taking steroids. nancy would be SO worried about it because omg steve, do you know what drugs do to your brain? how are you going to get into college if you keep doing that stuff??
meanwhile, steve is touched by her concern and also like...just going along with it? What is he supposed to do? That explanation makes WAY more sense than the whole Upside Down nonsense that they're trying to prevent. So now you've got Steve--who can do a mean kegstand but has literally never even considered doing anything harder than that because DUH the hard stuff would fuck up his body and he's an ATHLETE--trying to pretend he's got to get his Drugs so he has to cancel his plans with Nancy and go see Eddie RIGHT NOW. Because of Drugs. No other reason.
But we all know Nancy is a stubborn bastard (affectionate), so she'd definitely use her investigative skills to find out more. She'd track down this Eddie Munson guy and give him a piece of her mind. Now, this Nancy is still pretty mild and is lacking guns because the UD stuff hasn't hit her yet, but Eddie remembers with crystal clarity his Nancy and her weapons proficiency and reacts to past Nancy accordingly. As in, he immediately apologizes for anything and everything and promises not to do it again, please don't hurt him.
Now Nancy is confused as to why this big bad leather and chain wearing drug dealer is practically cowering before her. She starts to suspect other stuff is going on because the pieces aren't adding up. Eventually she figures out what's happening and joins Steve and Eddie because while they're both creative and skilled in their own ways, they're not really that great at the actual investigating bit of the plan-making process.
It's only then, when she's spending more time with the two of them together, does she start to catch on to the way Eddie looks at Steve. She remembers the rumors that go around about Eddie, so she's not too surprised because Steve is stupid hot and really good in bed, like, so good, the things that boy could do with his tongue will stay with her always. What does catch her off guard is the way Steve reacts whenever Eddie does something that edges around flirty (but still has plausible deniability). He doesn't get disgusted, he gets confused and ruminates over it. It's curious (though if nancy were honest to herself, she'd admit that she's never really understood all the romance stuff and it's never particularly appealed to her). If there were more time, she'd probably study them more.
But there are more important things happening, so she's going to leave them to deal with that mess on their own.

"you were born evil" but you still named her agatha.
thinking about that process, because it took 18 years right. you have a baby and you call her good and she turns out to be smarter than you, more powerful than you, and it scares you, you dont know how to handle that especially in a world that hates you and her already. the things about her that scare you, will scare the outside world who understands even less than you do ten times more. you dont know how to protect her so you try to control her which is like number one bad idea human response to things that scare us.
obviously this backfires and she gets even more furious in her quest for knowledge, every door you close she finds a window, every place you warn away from she gets into, talking to people she shouldnt be talking to, trying out magic she shouldnt be trying. every step she takes is one further out of your control, further out of anyone's control, every new thing she learns makes her dangerous, puts her in danger, puts your coven in danger, shes exposing all of you along with herself. shes in danger, shes a danger, shes a teenager and she knows more than you, of course shes not gonna listen to you anymore, about anything. of course shes not gonna hear a warning, and if she did she wouldnt take it, just to spite you.
what are you gonna do? youre not the only one whos scared. of her, for her. youve got an entire coven getting panicky about the way shes exposing all of you, the risks shes taking that she may or may not be able to fully understand (maybe shes never seen one of you burned before, maybe shes her own first). and if she were on her own that would be her decision to make, but you are still responsible for your coven and you are responsible for her, for her safety and for the threat she poses. so what do you do? do you even have a choice? or is this just where the mob turns. kick a scapegoat onto a pyre and hope fortune turns for the rest of us. if she cant stick to the rules in place for the safety of all, then shes a ticking timebomb. if it's not her at the stake, sooner or later it's all of you. so what can you do? what are you expected to do?

punish agatha.
#dont remember who i saw say it but when agatha is recruiting sharon and she pauses for a moment before going yoohoo#making peace with the fact that shes definitely most likely gonna kill this lady along with the witches#*points at her mother here*#anyway i dont know what the fuck like went on this is just one version#but im thinking of her ghost and like 'emotion ties them to this plane' like yeAH NO SHIT fhkjhgkj#the amount of emotion that mustve been going on here#i imagine there must have been a lot of self-convincing before her mother got to this point#i imagine there werent a lot of choices and she was kind of backed into a corner and she just had to find every reason to make this possibl#to be able to do THIS#thats the only way right?#she seems to be the leader. idk if covens have leaders maybe shes just leading here bc it's her daughter thats on trial#or maybe agatha just gets it from her mother#but like if she hadnt gone first then maybe the coven wouldve done this ANYWAY without her right?#and then she'd have lost control of the coven. maybe kicked out. her daughter would be killed either way like#idk if she considered taking agatha and fleeing just the two of them. if she rejected that as too dangerous. safety in numbers#they'd get killed if it was just the two of them#or if she never even considered it. i do get a sort of.....conforming vibe from her. which isnt weird bc standing out or losing community#is p dangerous right in the environment they live here#im more inclined to imagine her trying to teach agatha to just like. shut up. hide. conform. dont stand out. whatever you do DONT push the#boundaries#bc if you end up outside of them youre fucking toast#i can imagine that more as her attempted strategy than running off with agatha#but like obviously that wouldnt work bc agatha wants to push boundaries she wants to push boundaries so bad#i get a feeling she wants to push boundaries like the doctor wants to press buttons#yaz voice: you'd hit a hornets nest just to see what happens

Alphabet Book Titles!
For the second year in a row, I've completed a challenge to myself to read one new-to-me book title for every letter of the alphabet. The only reread present is the "X" title, because there simply aren't enough of those for me to read a subpar title for the sake of a challenge.
For the tricky letters: "Y" and "U" both appeared by happy accident; I had "Z" and "Q" titles on my shelf at the beginning of the year and DNF'd both, then spent too long trying to find substitutes; and for some reason "H", "M", and "T" all gave me some difficulty. But I got there in the end.
NOTE: This list contains the first title I finished for each letter. As such, this is not strictly a list of recommendations (though by and large I enjoyed all of these).
Are Women Human? by Dorothy L. Sayers (January)
The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown (September)
The Children of Húrin by J.R.R. Tolkein (June)
Dorothy and Jack: by Gina Dalfonzo (March)

The Food Explorer: The True Adventures of the Globe-Trotting Botanist Who Transformed What America Eats by Daniel Stone (July)

Heidi by Johanna Spyri (August)
In the Forests of Serre by Patricia McKillip (September)
Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell by Susanna Clarke (August)
The King of Elfland's Daughter by Lord Dunsany (August)

i love saying young man and young lady and ma'am when i'm scolding people. it's like bruh but way cuntier
#and 'sir' isn't on the list cuz any guy that i would scold will get 'young man' from me. even if older than me#and i respect my elders enough to not be inclined to scold someone so significantly older than me that 'young man' would be absurd#as in like retirement age people. if i had beef with someone that age i would not take a scolding tone i would take a polite but firm tone#but anyone between 15 and 60 years old is free game. if i need to reprimand u#all guys get: “young man....!” :/#and girls younger than me get “young lady!” :[#and women older than me get “ma'am.... ma'am..?” 0_o#and it really works! idk maybe i just have a formidable air abt me but#y'all should totally try it! i mean i'm sure this depends on the social role you have and gender presentation & vibes etc#but for me as an adult young[ish] looking super feminine person#saying “young man!” in a firm tone to a guy my age or older works like a riding crop with a horse. he'll go wherever i indicate and i don't#even have to be forceful about it. i hold invisible reins#like i remember a long time ago i was working at a bookstore#and there was strictly a no food policy with clear signs n all#and this one dude about my age sat down in one reading nook with his chinese takeaway meal and started to dine :/#and i walked up to him and hit him with my “young man!?”#and my god the speed of his jumping up and packing away his meal. and the sheepish look. :>#and with women about my age it's tricky -- i have to choose between 'young lady' and 'ma'am' based on two factors:#1) which one would likely flatter her and which one would ruffle her feathers? as in does she seem like a doormat#which means 'ma'am' would make her feel good and 'young lady' would push her poor self esteem buttons#or does she seem confident and regal and vain which means 'young lady' would probably be more flattering cuz it indicates she looks young#whereas 'ma'am' coming from a woman her own age would be like a slap in the face like i'm calling her old.#or does she seem normal self-esteem wise as in neither of the above issues. in which case 'ma'am' would be the norm#and 2) which effect am i looking to have in that particular interaction? do i want her feeling slightly flattered or slightly offended?#and when it comes to people under 15 i would not use these terms or the scolding tone. just like with people over 60.#i would take a polite but firm tone if i had to have words with someone under 15. like. people that age don't need any more scolding#on top of what they might alr get at home or school and whatnot#and also they don't need any more of the gender binary stuff that they prob alr get at home and school.#i might say 'bruh' tho depending on the situation

belated excerpting
"obliterating Kurloz's self control and higher brain functions for fun and profit" won and I finally have time to post so here is some,,,, upcoming nonsense, lol.
--
Meenah will have you when and how she likes, body and soul, but neither of you has much taste for announcement and spectacle.  Putting that shit in the air sets it out for the court and the fleet and the whole motherfucking empire to make comment and whisper, and fuck that noise.
You’re hers, and like it or not some piece of her is yours.  But not for the Mother.  Not for the drones.
All this to say, it’s been not just a sweep, not just ten, but a good hundred sweeps since you had a partner when the drones came around.  All this to say, when Gamzee scratches graceless at a horn with his eyes on your lips and says “Uh, so, I know you said—I know doesn’t either of us have to, but—” you’re already leaning down for him, sinking into the taste and smell and feel of him.  Time goes all into pieces, from one beat to the next of your pusher; he’s clinging onto you, panting at your ear.  He’s saying your name, low, wounded moan of a sound, catching and hitching in his throat.
You could have expected you’d want him.  You weren’t expecting this.
It burns through you like a cleansing fire, the aimless, grasping want in you finding what it was looking for and clinging with every claw and fang to it.  It’s not like rage, you’re not mindless and furious, you recognize him just fine—you know him, you’re so soft for him you can’t stand it.  Not frenzied, not mindless.  But you’re hungry.  Hungry to hurt him, hungry for the way he melts in your arms, hungry for the way his flesh breaks and bleeds and hurts.  Flush takes you like hunger hitting some feral troll-eater cannibal, a steady, devouring, relentless taking of what you need, a terrible wanting—
…Gamzee’s talking at you.
You piece that together in slow parts as you keep at him relentless, hearing yourself give a pleased and rumbling chirr of fondness at the way he smells and the way he gasps.  Occurs to you that you should listen to the words.  Occurs to you, seconds later and slow, that your fangs are in his shoulder.
Occurs to you, last of all and dawning like a blinding crack of sunlight through night’s haze, that he’s pushing at you with bloody hands, and as motherfucking delicious as he smells and sounds, the words he’s panting in your ear are “Aah, Kurloz, fuck, hold up, fuck.”
You make out the words like you’re fighting your way up out from under deep water, suck in a breath to answer and then groan when that breath’s full of the smell and taste of him.  His blood, his want.  He’s been wrecked, and it takes you a dizzying minute to remember that it’s you who did it.  It’s you who put marks of fangs all across every piece of flesh your fangs could catch purchase on.  Your claws that raked his belly and his legs.  Your body was given just a hint of what youve denied it so long, and it seized hold of yourself away from you, and you—  You were—
You realize your loss of yourself, all in a breath, and you’re back and off him between one blink and the next, still panting hard, hot all over for him.“Fffuck,” you get out, grinding on the purr that won’t leave your throat.  You can taste his blood and want in your mouth.  “Fuck.  Hurt you?  Did I, motherfucker—”

i am like wildly overestimating how well i could defend myself with like no self defense training with or without weapons on my person but id prefer that over thinking i cant like. build up enough strength to overpower someone or be scared to go to places alone
#personal#the effect true crime and women working out primarily to lose weight and not gain strength#and this weird notion of. not weird but inflated sense of fear? in women my age makes me unhappy#like you can lift mattresses or washers and dryers or idk other heavy stuff you just have to try lifting heavy stuff#you can be strong enough to match or at least put up a decent fight with that male friend boyfriend relative#like the amount of videos i see of women being like when you realize even at ur full strength you xyz can easily over power you#which is scary i get that but it’s not some crazy inevitably if you have xx chromosomes???????????#and maybe this comes from being quote unquote a big girl my whole life#like sure i’m not 5’10 but im a good height#and i’m hefty i got weight and like ED and body issues aside#i do like that i have a heft to me and you FEEL when i push back and i feel relatively safe bc i know i got weight and strength#but idk. i just#feel like to some degree resignation#like oh even the skinny lean guy will be naturally stronger than you it’s so scary#my ex was taller than me and worked out and i could easily hold his arms down just with mine#let alone if i used my body#like i lifted him on my shoulders and i pinned him i was the stronger partner just with our natural body types#and for some chicks yeah ur 4’11 and struggle to break 100 pounds naturally yeah yeah. ur kinda cooked genetically#but for a lot of chicks it’s like no i think ur boyfriend wouldn’t over power you without any resistance if idk#you gained weight and muscle mass?#again i’m probably overly estimating what i can do#and a tiny chick who actually does self defense training will handle herself way better than me#which also is just kinda the point. like it’s not some unavoidable fate that a ‘man’ is gonna be unquestionably stronger#and even if so doesn’t mean you can’t be a better fighter or better at getting away#idk tik toks and insta reels going through a lot of gender essentialism#like i believe any person with xy chromosomes are naturally inclined to rape and murder#ohh! so close the issue is an ingrained societal issue that was learned behavior and ur spouting terf rhetoric

it can be annoying when a creator successfully writes complex, emotionally realistic characters in mediums or genres that don't traditionally have complex, emotionally realistic characters, because the fandom is frequently very black-and-white about their views on a character - not even necessarily because the fans are malicious or thinking uncritically, but just because they're not expecting the medium/genre to have such emotionally complex writing and are unused to approaching it in a critical manner. which is how you get webtoons comment sections insisting that a character who's in the middle of a messy character arc needs to be dumped/jailed/publicly humiliated or youtubers complaining about intentionally flawed characters like they need to be completely rewritten to be a "good character" instead of *gasp* flawed

Upon seeing the post about second as iida my first thought was and third can be uraraka then I noticed you had the same idea in the tags
Great minds think alike I just think that's what she deserves,,,trio holders to the original trio babeyyy
#*while making a chart* third's lack of familial care meant he had to find his own in group and eventually meant supporting his leader#where later uraraka was raised with love that she would go as far for her parents as third originally would have gone for second#and still is inclined by nature to a supportive role- she has no great aspirations on leadership or power itself but in how she can help#other heroes (where previously how to help a ragtag freedom fighter group)#*continuing to make a chart* now Second's influence on Izuku could link to that early acceptance of 'yeah world isn't fair'#and i see a link in how Second really took apart his minor speed quirk to do more with it and Izuku's general quirk analysis and hacking#but where Second was mistreated as a threat Izuku was seen as a lack of one and someone to pittied even by those who looked him#which influence the way they react to said injustice though both are moving without thinking to do Something about it#(second having support of a group and Izuku very much not is the deciding factor between Izuku not going with the spider plan methinks)#and i think second + third having teamed up first like how Izuku + Uraraka met first is a good parallel with how Tenya is initially#antagonistic to Izuku but ends up joining both quickly when actual opportunity arises and he sees good things from them#and as Yoichi's somewhat black and white morality did develope somewhat specifically to oppose a terrible brother‚(i gotta finish that fic#where i go more into how they pushed each other more extreme to try to shut down loopholes) Tenya's developed in a way both supported by and#to support a great older brother which is why murder is a hundred percent ok if it's for tensei's sake#and this can be expressed by their different aproaches to making their hair look very different from or very similar to their brothers#speaking of hair that chapter where Uraraka did#a ponytail that spiked upwards? and third's hair? i see it#just as i see a connection when it comes to how she grapples and redirects enemy momentum to the fa jin power and connected combat style#also second scar = Izuku's ofa activation and tbh both could not care less about what their hair is doing dhfhfjgg#plus something about Izuku's 'gotta give ofa away' mode we joke about activating and Second's specific disapproval of him#man that self esteem deficiency sure can spread across more than one lifetime!#and of course. hands.#hands in the vault. tenya returning the favor to grab Izuku's#though the next step is to wonder about fourth but i do have an idea. wonder if we're on the same track about it again#pocket talks to people#anon

“I don’t think it’s silly at all.”
It was heartfelt to him, hearing this song, knowing it was something Emily used to sing with her father, something special that still lived on in her, even in his passing, something near and dear to her heart because of it. Was it some grand, sweeping song from some legendary opera? No. But did it need to be? Not at all. It was an honest answer, and it made Randall smile when he heard it, listening eagerly as she sang him this melody, him taking it to heart as he did.
“It’s...it’s lovely!” he replied brightly, as he turned back to his organ, so charmed by the song that he wanted to see if he could play it back, even if he’d only heard it once:
“Little Lotte let her mind wander... Little Lotte thought, ‘Am I fonder of dolls, Or of goblins or shoes, Or of riddles or frocks, Those picnics in the attic, Or of chocolates?
No, what I love best,’ Lotte said, ‘is when I'm asleep in my bed, And the Angel of Music sings songs in my head... The Angel of Music sings songs in my head...’”
He felt fairly confident that he’d been able to replicate the song fairly well when he played it (he might’ve been off by a key or two, but it sounded fairly close when he sang and played it), as he looked back and smiled still to Emily, saying, “It’s not silly at all, I...I think it’s very sweet. It’s...comforting, in a way, it sounds so...gentle.” He wished he had a lullaby like that, to think back on on dark, cold nights, when he felt alone...
