Ranking the Duggar Courtposals

The first big step in a Duggar relationship is asking the lady to enter a courtship with you. It’s probably very nerve wracking for the ladies but their father probably ensures the guy is well suited to her before giving permission, so to try and achieve the goal of marriage. It’s more obvious that the earlier courtships were planned. There will probably be many more courtposals in the future (there are currently 13 unmarried Duggar kids) so I might update this in a few years. I will write a ranking list for the engagements and proposals too.

1. Joy and Austin (Courtposal on the rock in the forest) – The most natural of all the courtposals by a country mile. It was very quiet and private with no huge crowd, no pressure on Austin and no huge amount of attention. Joy seemed genuinely happy and it was in an outdoors setting that the couple really enjoy. A cocky Austin was confident it would definitely be a ‘yes’, as all the guys seem to be before the courtposals, but it was obvious that this had been a gradual relationship changing from childhood friends into love interests.

2. Joe and Kendra (Courtposal at the old church house) – I think this was a lovely touch by Joe, bringing his past into the present and revisiting an old past of his life to welcome a new chapter. I definitely wouldn’t have wanted to go to a car auction beforehand though but I guess that was probably to help the element of surprise. The entire courtship seemed very awkward with the over the top rules i.e the engagement photography session where joe couldn’t put his hand on Kendra’s waist but it looked to me like she was doing a slightly seductive pose.

3. Jinger and Jeremy (Courtposal at the Main Duggar House) – There did seem to be no extravagant planning in this proposal, nothing hugely special about it. I do feel that the entire pre-courtship and courtship was more Jeremy talking and Jinger listening, staring wishfully into his eyes with an occasional ‘baaaaaaaaaaaaabe’ thrown in his direction. The only reason they are above Josiah and Lauren is because they seemed to have more of a connection and Jeremy wasn’t dead behind the eyes.

4. Josiah and Lauren (Courtposal at the Restaurant) – It seemed really nice and fairly normal, but it was nothing special. Also, I would not want to be asked into a courtship in front of my new sisters in law. Josiah never seemed very enthusiastic about Lauren, although Jessa did so maybe she would’ve been a better match for Lauren. TLC camera aren’t just there for no reason, so it loses points for that, of course she would’ve suspected something. Also, Kendra looks about 16 in this episode; it’s so sad how young these kids are married off.

5. Jill and Derick (Courtposal in Nepal) – It seemed very awkward and staged. It probably was to be fair, by TLC and Jim Bob. Jill’s ‘that would be awesome’ response is one you would expect to come from a girl in middle school when a male friend asks her to be his girlfriend but she actually wants to stay in the friend zone. I think it was especially obvious here that the entire relationship and marriage was planned by Jim Bob in the early stages. It had been 7 years since the last Duggar wedding and it was time to marry off the next child for the ratings (and it worked because the final three seasons of 19KAK had the highest views of all 10 seasons). However, Jill and Derick seem happy.

6. Jessa and Ben (Courtposal in Daddy’s office) – One word: Cringe That is all I can feel my body tensing up now as I even thing about it.

Note: We never saw a courtposal from John and Abbie. She was just introduced to the audience by John at the end of season 8 and the proposal was at the beginning of season 9. Josh and Anna jumped straight into engagement.

Loki x Reader Avengers The Office AU (Slowwwwww Burn)

Season 2 Episode 1 (SEASON Premier): You, Me & V

Warnings: a tiny bit of violence, anger, love blossoming??

Word Count: Phew! Okay. So...things have been happening. But the Avengers are beautiful people bringing joy to our lives so it is quite obvious I do the same. Heh!

Scott's voiceover:

This is a story of a man, who actually wasn't just a man. He was so much more.

Misunderstood, misinterpreted, taken for granted even, he had never known what love and compassion looked like. Until he first laid eyes on his beautiful girl.

Footage of Loki meeting you for the first time in the lounge. No greetings were exchanged as you had hurriedly told him to hold Zuko for you so that you could warm his milk and all he had done was look at you with utter malice but held the little puppy, though at an arm's distance, till you came back.

Her presence changed his entire world. Now, everything existed around her. His entire universe revolved around her. Everything he did, was for her.

Camera cuts to the footage of Loki grabbing your tea mug without permission, eating the last chocolate chip cookie on your plate, watching with measured suspicion as you made him some tea and even gifted him a mug of his own- something which he never used but was always happy to eat or drink whatever you made, from your plate and mugs, of course.

And all of this was going really smoothly until the latent evil sorcerer struck down its wrath upon their relationship.

Another cut of Loki taking out your adoption papers and turning into Tony before showing them to you, making you question your entire existence till that every moment.

All the wonderful strings that once joined them together now had come undone, one by one.

The camera again cuts to your figure, coming out of the library after confronting Loki, with tears in your eyes as you threw a small bouquet of flowers- you'd made for him as a note of thanks for effortlessly turning your idea of the wedding arch into a reality- into the nearest trash can that you passed.

Footage from the facility's camera showing the front view of Jim striking you unconscious, watching you lay out cold on the floor, taking your form in through his mad eyes before dragging you inside Tony's office.

And the magician, hurting as he was, did not know what to do except using everything in his power to redeem himself in her eyes.

The camera shows Loki asking Peter's help with something, who in turn goes to Wanda for assistance and comes back with a list for the God, who ultimately finds something worthy of you but leaves it on his bed, the gift never reaching you.

The footage cuts to Jim running out of Tony's office, pale and filled with fear only to run smack into Loki, who presents himself in front of him, tackling him to the floor before dragging him up by his collar and throwing him off the railing down to the ground because Natasha yelled 'Loki! No killing today!' when he took out his most lethal dagger out of a pocket dimension, ready to impale him without a second thought.

Well, she's gone for now. Leaving the magician with a broken heart and the evil sorcerer with a huge ego. Stupid sorcerer supreme.

Scott: *focuses back on the camera after the anger leaves him* what? What do you mean what am I talking about? I'm talking about the inevitable war going on between me and Strange.

Another footage of Cassie introducing himself to Stephen, who kneels down to properly shake her hand.

"Nice to meet you Cassie," Strange states as he passes her a warm smile.

"You too, Doctor Strange. Also don’t be mad at my dad. It may seem like he doesn't like you but he really admires your magic. Keep that in mind next time he asks you for a duel," Cassie responds, making Stephen tilt his head in amusement at the little one.

"I will! You are a really sensible girl, Cassie," Steven exclaimed, "and a wonderful daughter!"

Cassie smiles and the camera catches Scott at a distance behind the two of them, stopping in his tracks as he witnesses his daughter hug Strange before saying, "And you are a wonderful wizard!" Making the Ant-Man's face drop all the bright colours.

*looks back at the camera and frowns* Wait. Who did you think I was talking about?

The deadly silence brings a ringing into the ears in the lounge where Clint, Loki, Scott and Stephen stand while Peter and May sit in silence as the assassin eyes the God of Mischief with a blank yet malignant stare. Scott tries to do the same with Stephen, who is not even paying attention to the people in the room as he stares into the fireplace. Peter and May uncomfortably watch the standoff from where they sit on the sofas.

May: Oh, I'm just staying the night here. Steph-I mean Dr Strange offered me a short portal ride back to my place *smiles as she remembers the conversation* and we were about to leave when Barton came asking for Loki. *scrunches her face in worry* Yeah, stuff's about to go down.

"Umm," Peter's frail voice broke the numbing silence, "guys? I think we should go look for her. It's nearly three in the morning and the forest road from here to the city outskirts is not that safe."

Peter: For her. Not safe for Y/N because she's a normal human being, you know. *shrugs* *camera zooms in on to his blinking eyes*

*exhales in defeat* There was this huge rabbit that came out of nowhere once it almost gave me a heart attack! I swear it was huge! With red eyes!

*whispers wide-eyed* huge!

"The boy's right. I'll ask Wong to locate h-"

"No need," Clint finally spoke, still not ready to break his stare away from Loki, who was still in his suit, missing the jacket, standing without a crease of worry on his face, looking into oblivion with his arms crossed across his chest, "I know where she would've gone."

"I'm coming with you."

Loki's words made all heads spin- save Stephen's, whose eyes just flicked for a moment at the turn the mute discussion had just taken.

Before Clint could unclench his tense jaw and say something to Loki, May got up.

"Of course you'll go help look for her!" She exclaimed, somehow surprised at her own words. "Apologise to her face to face. She deserves that."

Scott finally looked away from the doctor and saw Clint ease up a bit at May's words.

"I-I'm coming too," Peter nearly jumped up, "if Aunt May is okay with it?" His voice trailed off as he looked at her with his signature puppy eyes.

"Yeah. Yeah. Go."

May: Peter is legit the only sane person in the room right now. And if an assassin and a freaking God of Mischief who can kill each other within a blink of an eye are going to travel together, I should really not be sending my nephew with them but Scott promised me he'll take care of him. *nods head in reassurance*

*smile turns into a plastered emotion* Scott is the same person who's having a cold war with Stephen because he heard his daughter compliment the wizard. *worry rushes over her brows with the smile still plastered*

I feel like I should be worried about Peter and Scott?

*stands up and starts calling someone as she moves out of the room*

"Hey! It's me, May. Yeah, I know I may be the last person you want to hear this from but..." is heard as she walks out.

Peter: *standing in the Dorm's corridor* This is the reason I've decided to bring Aunt May to the compound more often. So she can finally see how great these people are. How well they gel together and respect the hell out of each other. *smiles*

Meanwhile, in the background, Clint and Loki are walking in his direction. "We're leaving in five," Clint orders, "anyone not sitting in the car by the fifth minute can portal their ass to the Atlantic."

Peter: *wide, scared eyes watch Clint walk away as Loki rolls his eyes and enters his room* *turns back to the camera and passes a weak smile* That's Mr Barton's way of showing respect. M-mad respect. *nods matter-of-factly*

*all cheeriness disappears* I should probably go sit in the car *walks and out of the Dorm in a hurry*

At the City outskirts near a Bus Stop

A small tavern with an entire line of bikes marked the parking in front of it as rock music was heard outside and typical bikers along with a few emo goths came in and out. One could see the late night travellers at the side of the lit bus stop-cum-gas station looking at the tavern crowd with curiosity, disgust, amusement or just blank stares. But amongst all the soft mayhem, the focus was turned on your figure in blue jeans and a jacket with the hoodie over your head as you talked to someone over the phone.

"How long till you arrive, V?"

You casually kicked the free rocks off the broken road while two distant figures- who turned out to be two biker men in their late thirties- came in your direction as you were hearing whatever the person in the other end of the call was telling you with a hint of frustration.

"Okay, fine. Twenty more minutes and then I'm leaving you here," you snap before ending the call and jumping at the sight of the pair of men standing next to you.

"Hey, kid," one with a bandana around his head over crew cut black hair announced as casually as he could with a toothpick between his teeth, "you travelling alone?"

Your eyes moved between him and his soft blonde partner- a lot paler than the bandana guy with a dark moustache that made him look older than he supposedly was- before crossing your arms across your chest as you exhaled a visible warm breath in the cold night. "Who's asking?"

"That guy's been followin' ya for some time," the soft blonde spoke as he tilted his head towards the camera zoomed in on the conversation, making the camera guy zoom out and duck behind a car.

"What the heck, Javier?!" You shouted from where you stood. "Get your ass here!"

"Seriously man, why are you here?" You asked the guy behind the camera. "Sweety, I can take care of myself. Now I'll be the one worrying about you the entire night till I know you reach back home safely." A moment of silence passed as the camera recorded the shift in your eyes from frustration to mild surprise. You turned to look into the lens before your hand went back to your neck under the hoodie.

"Y-yeah. It's your home. Temporarily."

"Hey, hey Missy," the bikers called out to you, "if yer not boardin’ a bus or whatever why don't you two head inside the tavern and have somethin'. Keep yerselves warm, eh? It ain't safe here at this time in the night."

Just then the camera zoomed in on another figure. A well-built man parking his bike, talking to himself as he got down and walked towards the bar as "No we are not eating any humans today," was what the camera heard from that man opening the tavern doors, pausing, speaking a low hummed 'what' before turning to look straight into the lens that was zooming out at the fastest speed possible and turning towards you.

"Lot of weird peeps roamin' about," the blonde concluded before looking straight into the camera with a haunting look sweeping over his face.

"Okay," you answered, nodding. "Help me with my bag Rodriguez. Don’t worry, I'll look out for you till I find you a ride home. And I don't think you've eaten anything since noon," you mentioned before taking Javier's hand and guiding his reluctant body with you, "I'm sure the rest of the lot is sleeping on drunken bellies."

Clint's SUV

The deadly silence inside the car made Peter gulp in the nervousness inside his throat as Clint drove through the lonely forest road with Scott riding shotgun-making sad smileys on the foggy window- and Loki sitting at the back.

Finally mustering all his courage, Peter shifted forward in his seat.

"Can we put on some mus-"

"No," Clint shut him down.

Loki, who was sitting stoically with his arms across his chest, deviated his glare towards Clint, who visibly felt a change in temperature around him, finally speaking. "Don't take your falsely routed frustration out on a kid. He just wants to lighten the mood." His dead yet smooth tone made Clint twitch for a second.

He was about to say something when he was interrupted.

"Alright!" Peter announced, "okay! Stop! Aunt May says you have to think about what you're going to say in anger because what you spew in the heat of the moment, you can never take back."

"Oh, I never intended to tak-"

"Mr Barton, please shut up for a moment, would you?"

Three pairs of eyes shot wide open at the words the spiderling just spoke.

"And Mr Lang can you please stop wallowing in self-pity like a twelve-year-old?"

Scott's hurt face was interrupted too.

"Y/N just found out yesterday she is adopted and today, without as much as a goodbye, she left all of us in the middle of the night! She was waiting for Mr and Mrs Stark to leave so that no one could stop her when she did. She even left Zuko with you, Mr Loki. How hurt was she that she did not inform even one of us? And you all still have the audacity to fight amongst yourselves about your own problems. Yes, I know Mr Barton you are pissed at Loki for what he did but honestly now that's none of your business. And Scott, oh my God, please, stop. Cassie knows how much you admire Mr Stephen and that's the only reason she loves Mr Strange."

Stephen: I know for a fact someone somewhere called me Mr Strange just now. *blank expression* *deep inhale*

‘Hey,’ a familiar voice calls out of the focus of the camera, making it turn to the doorway of the recording room to find May standing at the entrance.

Stephen gets up and walks towards her with the softest ��hey’ back before closing the door in the camera’s face as he turns back towards May. “Sorry,” he whispers near May’s ear as the camera catches the doctor’s hand rest lightly on the small of May’s back, “the evening took quite an unexpected turn. Would you like me to take you home?”

“Oh, it’s okay,” May responds as she unconsciously straightens Stephen’s bowtie, “I would like to stay till Y/N gets back home if that’s alright with you? I’m a little worried about her.”

A light smirk, wrinkling the corners of his eyes, builds upon his lips. “Of course,” he says as May puts her defeated head over his chest, making him rub her back to soothe her, catching the camera recording everything, “I’m sure she’s fine, May. And I’m pretty sure she is meant to come back.” With his free hand, he motions something in the air and the blinders come up in front of the camera out of nowhere. “It’s the boys I’m worried about.”

"And Mr Loki. Tone down the sass and apologise to her the moment you see her. Seriously guys, get your shit together," Peter finally concluded.

A silent moment passed in the car in which everyone contemplated Peter's words when Scott's brows suddenly constricted themselves and he looked in the rearview mirror towards the spiderling. "How many of those red cocktails did you have?"

Peter turned towards Scott's reflection, feeling the rest of the eyes waiting for his answer, making him move uncomfortably as he tried to clear his throat.

"Seven..." He finally answered.

Clint and Scott arched their brows in amusement.

"...teen," came a whisper.

Clint and Scott lost their minds as Peter tried to explain them he didn't know that drink was a cocktail till it was too late while Loki tiredly looked at the dashcam- that zoomed in to his face to record the exhaustion on his features and expressionless sarcasm dripping from his eyes.

Loki: This kid is going to kill himself one day. By drowning. While trying to save a fish. From a five feet deep pond. Because he didn't realise there were huge rocks on the water bed before he decided to dive in. Head first.

*sighs*

The Shady Tavern, a few minutes later

"Don't drink that," you declared to the camera before taking the drink away from Javier's visible tan hands and giving it to a passing waitress and offering him yours, "here, take mine. Don't leave your drinks unattended, especially not in a place you're not sure about."

You looked at your watch before turning your head toward the side door. The delirious man who'd entered the tavern earlier gulped down his beer bottle on the bar before turning his head in your direction, keeping the camera on its tail to be discreet in recording his movements.

"I'll just come, okay? You can have the rest of the chips. Don't get any on the jacket. It's Loki's," you stated before getting out of the booth and walking out of the side door. The camera caught the man at the bar looking in your direction, his gaze not even faltering as your figure disappeared from his view and even five guys walked out after you. Just when the sixth guy disappeared outside did he get up from his seat and started walking towards the door, giving one cold hard stare in the camera's direction before disappearing, forcing the camera to get up and almost break into a run to walk out of the door.

As soon as they swung open, a pair of rough, tattooed arms grabbed the camera and Javier, forcing them into a shadowed corner.

"Shh! Shhh!!" The face of the man, who was following you, came into view, his index resting on his lips as he tilted his head cautiously in the direction you'd gone before coming back near the screen.

"My name's Eddie Brock," he declared in a low husky tone, "I’m a reporter. Relax, I'm not going to hurt you.”

Eddie Brock raised his hands in front of the camera, signalling he meant no harm.

An exchange between him and Javier went off camera, to which Eddie nodded and proceeded to communicate in ASL with the young man behind the camera.

“Yes. Those two men you met outside are undercover cops. I've been investigating a gang of child molesters, repeated abusers and pornographers. The biker gang that owns this tavern is helping me uncover the members. Your friend was targeted the moment you two made yourself known here in front of them. They are more interested in getting her because she is younger of the two of you.”

Eddie's expressions change into a confused surprise as he looks at Javier, reading his statement.

“She’s not? Oh. Okay. Good. Now listen to me. All the six guys who followed your friend out of the tavern are the suspected targets and you are in no way to go near them. No, yes, she'll be fine. I'm going to make sure she's safe while you stay here. Okay? Do not move from here till I tell you to move." Eddie’s voice came as the camera zoomed in to your figure on your toes looking for something in the far off distance in the direction of the gas station while the five men casually surrounded you from a considerable distance as a sky blue van came teetering and stopped right in front of you.

“Hey. Hey! Did you hear what I just said?” the camera came back to Eddie as he waved his hands in front of Javier before signing what he just said.

“Good. Now the few bikers in there are calling for backup. Let's just keep everything under control till they arrive. No, he's a good guy.”

Just as he uttered the last sentence a string of black goo started to build up on his right shoulder, till it moulded itself into a Muppet-like creature with two white eyes, fangs for teeth and a long pink tongue, bending in the direction of the camera and tilting its head with genuine curiosity.

"Eddiiieeeee," a hoarse and heavy voice erupted from the muppet, causing the camera to jerk a bit backwards, "Let’s go eat bad guys. I’m hungryyyy."

"Stay. Here," Eddie asserted through his hands, before turning in your direction and disappearing in the night.

The camera zoomed back to your figure that stepped away from the van when the clean-shaved driver gave you his most controlled, automatically creepy, smile. “Hey, sugar! Want to go for a ride?”

The change in your body’s posture was noted as you squared your shoulders and shifted away from the vehicle only to have your movement blocked by another man, who moved towards you from behind while whispering, “Come on baby girl, get in the van.”

The camera moved ahead, keeping itself in the shadows as it saw the men come closer to you, one sliding open the van’s door behind you, one placing himself inside the vehicle while two others covered your sides to give you no space to run away. The last man stood at a distance, almost missed by the camera had it not caught his lit cigar in the darkness right at the edge of the streetlight.

“Get away from me,” you announced with a blank expression as you tried to shuffle yourself away from the side when two of those men nearest to you grabbed you.

“Hey!” you shouted as they tried to push you back into the van, making the camera distort the recording as it turned wildly to look for the man with the weird muppet. With no sign of him, Javier got out of his hiding spot, his audible breathing faltering as he broke into a run towards your figure being pulled into the vehicle with a hand covering your cries for help- your eyes reflecting the horror in them as you tried to fight off the hands coming for you- before it disappeared behind the men that were pushing you inside.

Content Creator Interview #7

Welcome to interview number 7! Guys, this is a two-parter with fandom friends @ellis-hendricks and @geekmama posing a similar set of questions to each other. Ellis won the coin toss, so she’s up first -- discussing why her husband is to blame for her Sherlock obsession, fluffy realism, and why John reminds her of a sad walrus -- with geekmama’s turn coming next week.

Ellis_Hendricks (interviewed by geekmama)

We are, respectively, a Californian and a Geordie, and we got to know each other through reading and reviewing each other’s fics (geekmama’s ‘Time of the Season’ series was one of the first fics I read and loved). Geekmama has been writing in the fandom for around 3 years, and I’ve been doing the same for around 2 years, spurred on by the end of series 4 (and the ILY scene in particular). We started beta-reading each other’s work around a year ago, and are always discovering new and unexpected words and phrases that don’t translate across the pond! Although we’ve used the same set of questions for these interviews, we haven’t seen each other’s answers – so it does mean that if nobody else is interested, at least we will be!

Questions about the series

geekmama: Was there a particular moment in the series that set the ship sailing for you?

Ellis_Hendricks: It happened as soon as I started paying attention properly! I missed series 1 when the BBC first showed it, and when it was repeated, it was my husband who wanted to watch, and I was just casually joining in. But I think it was probably ASiB that did it for me - the contrast between Irene and Molly, and the manner in which Molly stood up for herself.

geekmama: What's your favourite episode and why?

Ellis_Hendricks: I know it’s considered by some to be the least ‘Sherlock’ of Sherlock episodes, but it’s got to be The Sign of Three. The Best Man speech alone is an amazing piece of writing and performance, but then you’ve got the Worst Stag Night in History (™), Sherlock’s Mind Palace interactions with the women caught up with the Mayfly Man, and of course, Molly stabbing her fiancé with a fork! But it also reveals some of Sherlock’s secrets (his love of dancing) and vulnerabilities (his loneliness), and they’re so deftly woven into the action and the comedy. From a Sherlolly point of view, the ‘planning the stag do’ scene is always going to be a classic (I particularly love how Molly has the upper hand here), and then there’s the look on Molly’s face during Sherlock’s speech that so clearly shows that she only has eyes for the Best Man.

geekmama: If you could ask/tell the series writers one thing, what would it be?

Ellis_Hendricks: Very hard to pick one thing, as there are so many moments when you really want to interrogate the writers’ intentions, particularly when they (deliberately, infuriatingly) leave things vague! I have always wanted to know, though, how Janine came to be Mary’s chief bridesmaid - was Janine a pawn used by Magnussen to befriend Mary and gain her trust, was she in on it in some way (seems unlikely), or were she and Mary genuinely just friends and the connection was just a massive coincidence?!

Oh, and at what point did Sherlock realise that Molly was engaged? The way the camera zooms into her engagement ring implies that this was the moment he noticed (and his previous behaviour would largely support that) - but it’s hard to believe that Sherlock would miss a detail like that.

geekmama: Do you have a controversial opinion about the series? E.g. a character who everyone else hates, but who you love?

Ellis_Hendricks: I’m not keen on Irene, although that’s probably not a controversial opinion. But it’s not particularly for shipper reasons - I just don’t like what the writers did with the character, which, to me, was quite tired and hackneyed. I do have a soft spot for poor Tom, though - and actually, I don’t think his ‘meat dagger’ idea was that idiotic! In other circumstances, if Sherlock had come up with that, it would have been hailed as genius!

geekmama: Have you ever, when watching an episode, cracked a case before Sherlock?

Ellis_Hendricks: Ha! No. Although I did notice right away that the same actress (Sian Brooke) was playing multiple roles in TLD - not that I worked out why, though!

geekmama: With whom would you rather be stuck at a wedding table - Janine or Irene? Donovan or Anderson?

Ellis_Hendricks: I would be massively intimidated by all three women, for different reasons, and Anderson would obviously be intolerable. It’s probably got to be Donovan - she’d have some good police stories, at least, and she probably wouldn’t try to make me dance.

geekmama: Who would you rather bring back in series 5 - Mary or Moriarty?

Ellis_Hendricks: I really like Mary, but I would throw something at the TV if it turned out she’d faked her own death somehow. I was sad she was killed off, but once it’s done, I think it has to be final. Moriarty has probably had his day now, too, especially in the light of the revelations about Eurus - although his suicide was a brilliant shock, I do wonder whether Moftiss killed him off too soon.

geekmama: Whose house would you prefer to live in - Sherlock's, John & Mary's, Molly's or Mrs Hudson's?

Ellis_Hendricks: If the rest of Molly’s flat/house is as nice as her kitchen, then Molly’s (although the kitchen wasn’t at all what I would have imagined for her). Although it has some nice quirks, I would generally see 221B as a horrible regression to student filth.

geekmama: In your opinion, who has been the best series villain - Jim Moriarty, Charles Magnussen, Culverton Smith, or Eurus Holmes?

Ellis_Hendricks: I think it has to be Jim, if only because he was the most fun. Magnussen and Smith were clearly despicable human beings in their own way, and they were both incredibly chilling. Although Eurus is a fascinating prospect, as a character in this particular show (and with the history she was given), I found her harder to buy into - it was all a bit too Silence of the Lambs.

Questions about your writing

geekmama: What was your first fic? What prompted it, and how do you feel about it now?

Ellis_Hendricks: It was ‘Completely Backwards’ - aka, Sherlock hatches a plot to get Molly pregnant, because he somehow thinks it will make her happy. It ended up being part of a much longer series, although I didn’t plan it that way. In fact, I wrote it more or less freeform, and it wasn’t beta-read, so I guess it’s a bit rough around the edges - looking back, there are a few small plot points I would change (mostly due to my relative lack of grounding in the series at the time), but it more or less stands up. Two years later, people are still reading and liking it, so it must work okay!

geekmama: Which fic are you most proud of/most attached to, and why?

Ellis_Hendricks: I’m genuinely quite proud of all of them, but I’m really pleased with the way both ‘In Loco Parentis’ (which follows Sherlock and Molly through 18 years of godparenting) and ‘A Knockout Christmas’ (Sherlock does A Christmas Carol) turned out. Both were quite big challenges. ‘In Loco Parentis’ involved thinking about how Sherlock and Molly would develop as a long-term married couple, how everyone’s lives might change and move on, and also both creating and sustaining original characters (in the form of their kids - and to an extent Rosie, who is not mine, but who we only know as a baby, and therefore have to take a guess at!). ‘A Knockout Christmas’ was an idea that came to me in a moment of insanity, and which I wrote fairly quickly - but I felt as though it had to strike a balance of being true to the series, and close enough to A Christmas Carol so that it followed similar beats and themes. Oh, and getting the choice of Sherlock’s ‘ghosts’ right was vital as well!

geekmama: In what ways does that old rule, “Write what you know” affect your writing?

Ellis_Hendricks: Quite a bit, I think. Or if I want to write about something that I don’t know, I do sufficient research so I can at least bluff that I know about it! My background is totally arts-based, so I feel very out of my depth when writing about anything sciencey (Chemistry was my worst subject in high school - I felt like doing a victory parade when I passed that exam!). I’m also not well-versed in fantasy or sci-fi literature, so I would also feel a bit of a fraud attempting something in an AU along those lines. Most of my fics are straightforward family/relationship pieces, and I suppose that’s my comfort zone. Generally speaking, my life is far too uneventful to actually inform plotlines - although Molly’s medical emergency in ‘Under One Roof’ was based on the birth of my younger child (and writing it served as cheap therapy!)

geekmama: What are your worst writing habits? What are your most overused phrases, plotlines, etc.?

Ellis_Hendricks: I’m not so hot on writing beautiful, detailed description, so I feel it’s something that’s lacking a bit in some of my fics - and it’s kind of out of laziness, and an impatience to get to the bits I do like! I think that I’m a bit repetitive when it comes to describing people’s gestures/facial expressions/reactions, and I’m also guilty of burdening characters with the same old verbal tics and quirks. In terms of plotlines, you could probably argue that all of my fics are basically the same story written from a slightly different angle!

geekmama: Do you have a writing routine? Where and when? And is everything digital, or are things ever handwritten first?

Ellis_Hendricks: Oh, for a writing routine! When I come up with an idea, it’s a case of frantically jotting down notes (usually on my PC or phone, but occasionally on paper if that’s more convenient at the time) - I then try to work those notes into a story plan in bullet points, usually including bits of dialogue if it occurs while I’m thinking. I generally have to write in short bursts, as and when I have time - at my desk during my lunch hour, on my phone while commuting (by train, I hasten to add - not while driving), at home once the small people have gone to bed. But if I had more time, I know I’d only procrastinate!

geekmama: Who do you enjoy writing the most?

Ellis_Hendricks: I’d love to give a more interesting answer, but it’s probably Sherlock - although writing his parents is also a lot of fun.

geekmama: Who do you find easiest/hardest doing first person POV?

Ellis_Hendricks: I think I’ve written from Sherlock’s, Molly’s, John’s, Mary’s and Mycroft’s POV, and to be honest, I’ve loved doing all of them, because each presents a different writing challenge. Mary was possibly the hardest, because she’s such a closed book in a way, and so much is unknown - and because I want to be sympathetic to her, at the same time as finding some of her choices questionable! Writing ‘A Dead Man in the Family’ really got me into writing Mycroft - to the point that I actually started to feel an affinity with him, which was a bit disconcerting!

geekmama: Which fic would you recommend to someone who has never read your stuff before?

Ellis_Hendricks: Hmm, if someone wanted a quick taster, maybe ‘The Wedding Planner’ or a recent one, ‘A Piece of That’. Most of my fics are multi-chapter, so if you’re willing to get your teeth into something longer (so to speak - that sounds wrong!), you could try ‘Not What it Looks Like’ (only 3 chapters), or start with ‘Completely Backwards’ and then see whether you want to keep reading that series for the next five months!

geekmama: What do you value most when it comes to feedback?

Ellis_Hendricks: All feedback is wonderful (except for the time a 12-year-old tried to start an ALL CAPS fight with me about Eurus!). For me, the greatest compliment is when people say that the characters feel authentic, and/or a story feels like a missing scene from the series. Anytime that someone says a story made them laugh, cry, or otherwise have a spontaneous outburst of emotion, that’s amazing, too. But having that dialogue with readers is what is important - the feeling that you’re not just throwing out stories into the void, and the encouragement that keeps you writing.

geekmama: Would you ever go back and revise old fics - or do you consign them to history once they're published?

Ellis_Hendricks: No, I’m pretty much of the feeling that what’s done is done. The only changes I’ve made are spelling/grammatical ones that I’ve spotted later on - or when I’ve spotted a glaring error that might throw people out of a story. I don’t think I’d ever do a wholesale rewrite.

geekmama: Do you - or would you - write other pairings?

Ellis_Hendricks: I write other established pairings, e.g. John and Mary, and have written post-TFP fics where Mycroft and Lady Smallwood are a couple in some way, but I haven’t written other fan pairings. Everyone is totally free to ship who they like, but I guess I just write the ones that appeal to me.

geekmama: How would you define your style?

Ellis_Hendricks: One reviewer described it as ‘fluffy realism’, so I think I might pinch that! Generally, my fics are fairly close to canon, and use events in the series as a hook or jumping-off point.

geekmama: What's your method in approaching a story? Do you plan methodically, or wing it?

Ellis_Hendricks: I used to wing it, but I’m better at planning these days - it at least means that if I lose momentum or have a gap between chapters, I’ve got something to fall back on. When writing a multi-chapter fic, I used to publish a chapter and then write the next, but now I tend to try to write the whole thing first (or at least get a few chapters ahead) - much less stressful that way!

geekmama: Who do you write for? Is it you, or are you thinking about trying to please your audience?

Ellis_Hendricks: Certainly in the early days, I was just writing things that I would like to read, as there was no guarantee that anyone else would be interested! That’s probably changed a bit now, but I go by the rule that if I don’t find something engaging and entertaining, then I’ve got no right to expect that other people will!

geekmama: Do you have any WIPs, and do you think new chapters will ever see the light of day?

Ellis_Hendricks: No, I don’t have any WIPs - I’m not good at juggling more than one idea at a time, and I’m a bit of a compulsive completer, too. If I get a new idea while writing a fic, I make a few frenzied notes and then bury it until I’m ready.

geekmama: Are you working on anything at the moment?

Ellis_Hendricks: All I have is an outline for a one-shot, which I’m hoping will see the light of day before too long. These days, it’s really hard to come up with something that hasn’t already been done (and done well) by someone else!

geekmama: What’s harder for you - writing the start of a fic, or coming up with a decent title?

Ellis_Hendricks: The start of a story, because of that need to grab people (hopefully a reader might forgive a crap title?!). I had a teacher who said that once you’ve written something, you should always go back and jettison the first paragraph, because it’s usually a pointless preamble - not sure whether I agree with that entirely, but I do always check to see whether there’s a better way of just jumping into a story.

Reading other people's fics

geekmama: What are your favourite tropes in the fandom?

Ellis_Hendricks: Lots of the old favourites. Off the top of my head...bed-sharing, Molly as ‘the missus’, secret dating/marriage, being lab partners, accidental pregnancy.

geekmama: What things are likely to turn you off a fic?

Ellis_Hendricks: I try to be pretty open-minded, but I’m not keen on fics where Sherlock is portrayed as insanely jealous or aggressively dominant, or when Molly is a bit of a teenage fangirl, usually with little or no backbone. Another is where Tom turns out to be a total bastard, either before or after Molly breaks up with him - I know we don’t see a lot of him, but I don’t read him that way at all, and I like to think that (even after Jim from IT!) Molly has better judgement.

geekmama: Can you recommend 3 fics that are not your own?

Ellis_Hendricks: No, because I’ve read too many good ones. But I’m always excited when I see something new from geekmama, MizJoely, Writingwife83, waitingtobedistributed, OhAine, Quarto, sunken_standard, miabicicletta, forthegenuine or hobbitsdoitbetter.

geekmama: What compels you to leave comments on top of kudos?

Ellis_Hendricks: I don’t know exactly - but it does feel like a compulsion. If something has really impressed me, moved me, made me laugh, or has prompted me to go and read the whole thing again, then it definitely warrants a comment.

John's TEH moustache or his TAB moustache?

Ellis_Hendricks: TAB moustache, because it’s acceptable for the period setting. TEH moustache makes him look like a sad walrus.

Sherlock's purple shirt or white shirt?

Ellis_Hendricks: Can’t say I’m fussy in this regard, but...purple. Or the all-black get-up from ASiB.

Molly's stripy jumper or cherry cardigan?

Ellis_Hendricks: Stripy jumper - it looks cosy (although I would snag it on everything).

Mary's christening outfit or black-ops gear?

Ellis_Hendricks: Black-ops. I’d wear it when I’m surreptitiously moving my neighbours’ bins.

Submitted by @thisisartbylexie: Your way of presenting Mary and Molly's friendship is so realistic and rich. What made you want to write about it?

Ellis_Hendricks: Thank you - and that’s such a great question! (I also had no idea that artbylexie had read my fics, so that made my day.) Well, I’m a feminist, and I think that female friendships are worth celebrating whenever you can. Also, Molly and Mary are both such brilliant characters in their own rights, and I was keen to think about their lives outside of their relationships to the men in the series. It always fascinated me that Molly wasn’t a bridesmaid at the Watsons’ wedding, but she was made a godmother less than nine months later - so a strong friendship must have developed in that time. I tend to think that, because of her past, Mary wouldn’t have fostered many genuine friendships, but that she can’t help but make an exception for Molly. Makes me want to write something else for them now!

Ellis_Hendricks: Yes, I’m certain it has made me up my game! The quality of geekmama’s own work (both creatively, in terms of plot, and technically, in terms of grammar and structure) is very high, so I suppose I have that to aspire to when I write, too. She’s great at spotting my errors or opportunities for improvement - I guess that could make me lazy (knowing she’ll pick them up), but I think it makes me more determined to do a good job first time around, so she doesn’t have too much to do!

What’s your favorite fanfiction for 4? Girl Power Polycule

Honestly, I don’t know that I’ve ever read a piece of fanfiction focusing on all of them. I am however thinking of writing that very story.

What’s your favorite fan art/picture for 2? Barbmura

That is...really hard to say. I think it’s going to be this one (X) because it my dream to have an amazing wedding like this.

What’s your favorite headcanon for 1? Jlaireby

I have so many headcanons for them, it’s hard to choose. I think my favorite and one I’ve written about several times is that Toby will video call Claire and Jim as “Video dates” while they are on the road to New Jersey. It’s the cutest headcanon to me.

What do you like most about the dynamic between the people of 7? Blinkbarbmura

This is one of the ships that is the most likely to absolutely lose their minds if something happens to Jim. Barbara was willing to throw hands with Merlin when Jim was hurt. Blinky straight up blew up a dude when Jim was on trial. Nomura has no hesitation with doling out punishment, and willing sacrificed herself to allow Jim to escape the Darklands. Together there isn’t a restraining force among them. So Jim gets hurt, and these three rain an ungodly hell on the perpetrator.

When 9 10 have sex is it more giggly or more serious? Trolldads

Uhhhh, I’m not to create a head canon for how three teen aged kids have sex, so how about I do Number 10 instead? I think it would be more serious. Blinky and Aaarrrgghh can be silly and lighthearted, but I feel like when its just them things are more serious.

Out of all the ships who do you think have the best chemistry?

In order of best chemistry my ships are: Jlaireby, Hammerhunter, and Darci x Claire x Toby. These kids are the ones who have gone through the most. Their relationship is started on being best friends. There’s nothing these kids can’t do together.

Which ship has the strongest bond?

I feel like saying the Main Protagonists is a little cheating, so I will say Barbmura. These two women, have a longer life experience and more in common throughout. They understand each other, understand what drives the other.

Which ship do you spend the most time reading fanfiction for/talking/writing about?

Again, in order of how much I’ve written: Barbmura, Jlaireby, and Mary x Shannon. These three ships are the focus of my entire After the Eternal Night extended universe.

Which one was your first ship?

Jlaireby. Being poly myself, I’m always all for shipping all the protagonists. Teen Titans? Lovers. The Mystery Gang? Lovers. The Trollhunters Trio? Lovers

If 6 were to break up, how would it happen? Stricklakerot

Unfortunately it would probably be because of Strickler and Angor’s history. One did kind of enslave the other. That might be hard to forgive.

Between 3 and 8, who would last the longest if they were in a zombie apocalypse?

Ok this is between Hammerhunter and Mary x Shannon. That’s a tough call. Fortunately it just happened to line up two of pair ships, rather than my many poly ships, so no unfair advantage. Jim’s biggest weakness during a zombie apocalypse would be his weakness to sun (I actually have an AU idea focusing on this idea, that I haven’t started writing yet) I think Jim and Toby would win out. They are experienced fighters with magical armor and weapons. Shannon has magic, and Mary’s no slouch in a fight, but I just think experience would win out. Or they would end up working together and be unstoppable.

Does 7 hide their relationship, and if so, why? Barbmura

I think there might be a brief period where they hide their relationship. Barbara may be unsure how Jim will feel about her dating his father figure Blinky and his former enemy Nomura, much less at the same time. I think when Jim tells he is dating Claire and Toby at the same time, she implies that she might also be dating multiple people. Jim guesses right away that her partners are Blinky and Nomura. He’s happy for her and for them. Toby and Claire are the ones to give them both the shovel talk.

What is 9′s favorite date to go on? Darci x Claire x Toby

So far in my writing they have gone on a date to a coffee shop and a funeral. Of the two they definitely seemed to prefer the coffee shop. I think staying in would probably be their favorite dates in the future.

What’s your favorite canon moment between 10? Trolldads

So my two favorite moments are when Blinky lovingly touches Aaarrrgghh’s statue in the library while Jim is in the Darklands and when Blinky is human and Aaarrrgghh is wounded by Creeper’s Sun and they are both being awkward around each other and so sad that things are weird.

Ok. Ha ha ha. Take your pick. There are a lot of powerful personalities here. A lot of different ways of approaching problems. They’ve all had their share of arguments about how to deal with their trials. I mean even in a domestic setting where they have a massive house in Arcadia, or in the Royal palace on Akiridion-5, or cave in New Trollmarket. There could be arguments about so many things. I love them all, but there are quite a few hot heads in this group.

If you had to pick an OTP which would you chose?

Even the concept of choosing one can go fuck itself. The closest I could get would be the choosing two. All the Teenagers and All the Adults. Every teen is dating every other one. Every adult is dating every other adult. Two massive love webs. Who even chooses?

What’s the biggest kink that 1 2 shares? Barbmura

Uh,, Still not making sexy things for teens so for number 2 instead? That’s a hard one. I don’t think its anything related to bondage or domination (Mostly because i feel like they are both doms) I think it would be “marking” the other. Scratches, bites, hickeys and the like. In her troll form Nomura has to be careful not to make the marks permanent. Barbara will cover her body in lipstick kisses, when they are both human, the fun can get intense.

Do 8 want children? Mary x Shannon

Hell yeah! Shannon is from a long line of lesbian witches. She knows a spell that can allow two women to conceive. Their kids are going to be so pretty and they’ll have a share of Shannon’s magic. Plus they will have so many magical aunts and uncles as the rest of the Reckless Club jump over themselves to take care of the kids.

Between 10 and 4, which would you rather become canon?

Which one is more likely? Trolldads. Which one would I prefer? The lesbian power polycule. Like let’s get all the ladies to date each other. It’s super gay and very wholesome. And they can all kick the asses of any guy who messes with them.

Does 2 do much PDA? And does it annoy their friends? Barbmura

Uh, probably yeah. In my story I’m writing for these two, they are pretending to date at first so they do a lot of PDA to prove that they are dating. Then when they are actually dating that trend continues. They are both in other matters pretty private people and probably wouldn’t normally, but they love each other so much they can’t help it. The PDA annoys Toby and Jim but no one else minds. Barbara is basically Toby’s mom, and literally Jim’s and they are both done with having to see their mom kiss changelings who tried to kill them.

Which of the ships would you say is the most romantic with each other?

Jlaireby, hands down. These kids who have, almost literally, been to hell and back for each other? Oh yeah. They know exactly what the others need, when to hug, when to kiss, when to give them space and when to hold them tight like they will never let go. They all go above and beyond for each other Valentines is a glorious disaster every single year. And their anniversaries (there are multiple depending on when each felt they started dating the other. None of them agree on the actual dates) are always magnificent.

How would the proposal between 5 go?

I already wrote this! (X) Like so many things, it’s a god damn disaster of a romantic night. All the planners and over thinkers interacting with all of the spur of the moments. They didn’t even mean for it to be this poly or this gay, but it sure as hell was. After everyone proposed and danced they retired to Jim’s house (it was closest) and fell asleep on the floor in the living room. The next morning they tried to sort out who had proposed to who. The relationship web became increasingly silly. A few folks who didn’t get the chance to propose to everyone they wanted to did so in the morning. Which made the relationship web even more difficult to read. They gave up when someone asked what a wedding like that would look like. I am now going to write this up!!!! This is great.

The Office thoughts...

So I’m on my second watchtrhough of The Office.... I have seen both Parks and Rec and The Office twice now. I used to think I liked them the same, but I’ve known for a while I prefer Parks and Rec.

Okay, first off, The Office has very little characters that are just... nice?

Michael: always causing problems for others in the office. He constantly remarks about how ugly the women are in the office, except Pam who he objectifies

Pam: plays too many pranks on Dwight, is kind of rude to Michael, kind of not nice to Karen

Jim: plays too many pranks on Dwight, plays on Michael’s naivety, barely tries to work hard. The night Pam had her art gallery thing, Jim could have gone, but he didn’t.

Dwight: kind of a goody-two-shoes, he claims to be loyal to Michael but goes behind his back twice. Once, when Kelley is rude to Jim (the 2nd in command while Michael is gone), Dwight says “that’s no way to talk to your superior”, but about 3 episodes later, he calls Jim an idiot immediately after making co-manager

Stanley: constantly shows insubordination, dry, he’s loud and rude if someone bothers him

Angela: all around a bitch. She’s controlling on the PPC, she calls Pam a whore when Pam literally wears cardigans and button ups but barely says anything to Kelley who throws herself at everyone in the office and the same for Meredith, or herself, who was sleeping with 2 dudes at once, and lying to them both about it.

Oscar: makes way too much fun of Michael

Kevin and Toby are okay I guess, they don’t do anything to outright hurt anyone.

Creed doesn’t do anything to anyone

Phyllis: unless she’s insulting someone, she’s not happy.

Andy: brown noser, but other than the anger management thing, he doesn’t set out to hurt people

Charles Miner: total asshole

David Wallace: it’s hard to say something about David. He’s professional, but he never really gives credit to Michael that he deserves. Their branch does the best, consistently, but when Jan tried to sue DM, he said about Michael “what do you want me to say, he’s a nice guy?” I get that Michael is kind of an idiot, and he lets stuff slide for him, but he also ignores the fact that Michael must be doing something right. I know he brings him in and asks for that on one episode but more often than not, he sort of patronizes him.

Jan: Selfish bitch that used Michael, a lot, who didn’t deserve it

Ryan: is a fucking idiot, and asked Michael to come talk about his company, after slandering their name

Kelley: is rude, obnoxious, insubordinate, and just acts all around like a toddler

Roy: total dick

Now, some things I don’t get. A nice moment in the Office is never just... kept that way?

Dwight goes to comfort Pam after she sees Jim and Karen dating or kissing or something. He says “Who did this to you? Where is he?” --- This is sweet. He sits down, puts his arm around her, and comforts her -- this is also sweet. But then, he ruins it with “You must be PMSing pretty bad.” Like, Dwight doesn’t seem like he would say this. I know he’s goofy, but he’s also been with a lot of women, and he’s raised on a farm, I don’t think he would be this “aloof” and blame her crying on PMS when he’s been around her for YEARS and never seen this.... So they ruined a sweet moment.

The wedding between Pam and Jim - I really hated that they went off and got married on a boat. I get they wanted it to be “just them” but.... that’s kind of what the wedding is for???? Why plan all of that, do all of that, be about to go on the altar, and then just say “eh, fuck it, we’ll go on a boat and forgo all of this”? It didn’t feel sweet it felt.... forced?

Every season after Michael left is just shitty. Not because I loved Michael or he’s my fave character (he is fucking funny though, albeit obnoxious), but because there was like constant turnover and weird change -- 1) Robert California just sucks.... I love the actor but the character is just out of place, weird, makes no sense.... 2) Erin is way too ditsy and airheaded and she strings Andy along. 3) Andy is having a crisis because his family is broke, but like, he’s employed? So why the huge meltdown? 4) Erin starts to date a kid that looks 10-20 years younger than her 5) the 2 dudes in the back (Zach...and something else, i think?) just don’t fit, at all.

I don’t like it where after Jim and Pam are dating, Phyllis on TWO occasions says “you can’t just do X for the person you’re sleeping with.” That’s rude and demeaning.

I don’t like where after Michael Scott Paper Company dissolved, that everyone wanted Pam and Ryan to give their clients back. On one hand, they didn’t become extremely good salesmen, they just had really low prices. On the other hand, technically, that’s the whole name of the game. They got those clients by selling them a better price for the same product, they should’ve gotten to keep them.

I didn’t like that Jim went to David Wallace for the idea of promoting him to branch manager and Michael to regional. Why didn’t he go to Michael first, then they go to David? I know he doesn’t trust Michael, but going to your immediate supervisor, instead of over his head is always better. Because then they became co-managers and it was a nightmare.

The episode with the raises didn’t make much sense. apparently they only had so much money in the budget for raises. Well, either give them out as small bonuses for everyone, or go by seniority, or give everyone a small raise, but Jim just saying “it’s going to the sales team” felt really biased. No manager is going to do that.

Trying to explain the inexplicable

Sherlock wouldn't very likely admit that something is inexplicable, would he? His usual MO is to investigate and investigate further, until he has it all cleared, so admitting that something is 'inexplicable' would be much more like John than Sherlock any day of the week. This thought struck me after trying to make sense of John's blog post "The Inexplicable Matchbox", which he published during the hiatus before Sherlock's return in TEH.

There's a number of things with this post that make me curious.

First of all is the fact that the whole case is so top secret that John apparently isn't allowed to write anything about the solution to the case, just that "we solved it” and found out “who’d killed who and how and why".

If Sherlock had been able to comment at this point, I think he would probably have questioned why John decided to write it down in the first place, just like he did before, when John hinted something about Irene Adler (X). According to John, that “adds context. Gives people an idea about the real you”. Which Sherlock also questions. And still, in TSoT, he does mention this ‘frustrating’ case in his best man speech at John's wedding...

...which means that Sherlock - contrary to his usual opinion of this behaviour - did choose to share a glimpse of this case with the wedding guests in spite of it being, apparently, either ‘inexplicable’ or a top secret case of international importance (”We’re talking about Every Official Secrets Act”, according to John’s blog post). So here we have a clear teaser, in my opinion; a whole case that is merely hinted at, but it still appears in both the show and in John’s blog. But in neither of them are we actually told the solution.

So, parting from the conviction that nothing is inexplicable to Sherlock (which is confirmed by John’s blog telling us they did actually solve it), let's dissect this blog post, pice for piece! :) There's a number of objects and phenomena mentioned in this post that pop up frequently in the show, so let’s see what they might mean:

1. Matchboxes. In the picture from TSoT above, Sherlock looks like he’s being enlightened by the ‘inexplicable’ thing that’s in the matchbox. Might there be anything significant about matchboxes - like some sort of clue? There aren't actually many of them, except for the ones in the ‘inexplicable’ case, but they are at least mentioned in ASiB:

But since matchboxes are not so often used by smokers these days, we might as well also include lighters, right? Strange, by the way, that Sherlock would even ask for a matchbox before he asks for a lighter...

Either will do. So, on what occasions do we see Sherlock using a match or a lighter? Well, I’ve tried to collect the data, but since Sherlock apparently had quit smoking at the beginning of the show, we only ever see other characters using them before TSoT, which seems logical; he doesn’t need a lighter, since he has John Watson for a conductor of light. In ASiP there’s Jeff Hope’s pistol lighter. And later in ASiB, after Buckingham Palace, we see Sherlock smoke, but it’s Mycroft who lights his only cigarette. In THoB Henry Knight uses a lighter on his own cigarette, but Sherlock’s cigs are hidden behind the skull on the mantelpiece - ‘hidden’ on his own request apparently.

And in TEH Lestrade is holding a lighter to his cigarette the moment Sherlock returns from the dead, telling Lestrade that smoking will kill him. And that’s about it. And the lighters are all very ‘explicable’, as far as I can see. In HLV Sherlock is smoking again, though, in spite of being fresh home from hospital (no lighter in sight, though).

But then in TAB’s Victorian scenes and in TFP, there are indeed some matchboxes that seem to require explanations:

At 221B, when Lestrade comes to visit, Holmes lights his pipe with a match,

which transforms into Emilia Ricoletti’s pistol barrel:

Is this significant in any way? Might be, but I don’t see it just yet. Need more data.

Later, in the Carmichael house, Holmes strikes a match to light a lantern, and tells Watson to stay in the hall. And then comes an interesting scene (my bolding - thanks for the quotes, Ariane De Vere).

Watson is supposedly speaking to the ghost of Emilia Ricoletti:

WATSON: You’re human, I know that. You must be. (It’s dark in the corridor. He puts his revolver onto a table beside him, on which is a candle and a box of matches. He picks up the latter.) WATSON: Little use, us standing here in the dark. (He strikes a match and picks up the candle to light it.) WATSON: After all, this is the nineteenth century.

That last remark is a curious one, isn’t it? As if they should be ‘enlightened’, since it’s the 19th century. But this is all happening inside 21st century Sherlock’s head, so why does he imagine Watson referring to Victorian times as ‘modern’ here? And Watson, who is usually addicted to danger, is now vacillating between being terrified by the supposed ghost and speaking to it as if repeating his recent conversation with Holmes about human ‘impulses’. Adding to the importance of this scene, it was also one of the selected scenes for the TAB trailer, IIRC.

Enlightenment seems to be a sort of theme, because in TFP John says it outright (to Mycroft):

And then in TFP there’s a scene, voice-over by Mycroft, where little Euros is drawing family pictures, but on every one of them her brother Sherlock is dying a horrible death of some sort. (For some reason he also has red hair and is wearing the same yellow-and-blue-striped jumper).

Then she grabs a matchbox,

lights a match,

and then apparently sets the whole mansion of Musgrave Hall on fire. (We don’t actually see her doing this, though).

Now, that’s kind of an ‘inexplicable’ matchbox, isn’t it? Why did Euros do this? This reeks of Childhood Trauma to me. Since I actually doubt that Euros even exists (I think TFP is all happening in Sherlock’s mind, and Euros might represent a part of Sherlock himself) I do wonder what actually happened to Sherlock...

2. Isaac Persano. According to Sherlock in TSoT, he was a “French decathlete found completely out of his mind, surrounded by 1812 matchboxes, all empty except this one”. Apparently John (see blogpost above) couldn’t believe his eyes when Sherlock showed him the content of the matchbox. Persano had been missing for a year and a half, after the murder of his trainer. He was found in a hotel room in Brighton and couldn't speak. John diagnosed it as PTSD, but apparently Sherlock proved him wrong. The trainer had also been found in a hotel room, beaten to death with a heavy object.

Isn’t it a strange coincidence that first we have this missing person, Isaac Persano on the blog. And then we get Isaac Whitney in HLV, who is also ‘missing’ but later found in a drug den, together with Sherlock. Not to mention that his family name, Persano, sounds almost like Persona. As if someone would be impersonating someone else, right? Maybe someone who likes to use disguises?

3. Clowns. It’s mentioned twice in the blogpost that Sherlock had to dress up as a clown, so I assume it’s important. We never see Sherlock as a clown, though, but there’s two occasions in the show where someone else is dressed up as a clown. The first is the Waters gang in TSoT:

And the second is in TFP, in Mycroft’s house, where Sherlock apparently has hired a clown to scare his brother into telling him about Euros (which in itself seems extremely weird and illogical to me):

So none of these clowns are actually ‘real’ ones, who make people laugh, but rather acting to frighten people or using the outfit for disguise while comitting a crime. Hmm... Childhood trauma?

4. Helicopters. According to John, Mrs Hudson was thrown out of one (we have no idea how or why). Apart from this blogpost case (the helicopter sequence is not shown in Sherlock’s Best Man speech), there’s only one other occasion described by John: when he was “whisked away in a helicopter and taken to Buckingham Palace”. We also see this scene in the TV show. But there are plenty of other helicopters mentioned and/or shown in the TV show: Already in ASiP, Sherlock is talking of getting a police helicopter to track down the murderer. In TEH, Sherlock is chased by a helicopter in Serbia (we only ever hear the sound of it and see the grass move from its wind, though). Also in TEH, when Sherlock is telling John how he survived The Fall, he considered a helicopter rescue. In TSoT, Greg summons a police helicopter as backup when he thinks Sherlock is in danger at 221B. In HLV Sherlock and John are transported to Appledore in a helicopter. Then Mycroft also arrives in a helicopter (which looks suspiciously similar to Magnussen’s). The same helicopter is then shown in the manipulated footage at the top secret hearing in T6T. Then there’s the police helicopter in TLD, chasing Mrs Hudson’s red sports car.

Also in TLD, there’s a surveillance helicopter following Sherlock and Faith through the streets of London by night. And - last but not least - there are several helicopters heading for Sherrinford island in TFP. First there’s Jim’s ‘I want to break free’ helicopter. Then the one that transports Euros back to prison. And finally there’s the one that takes Sherlock out to Sherrinford to visit his sister, at least twice. If I haven’t miscalculated, that’s 14 helicopters in total. Quite a lot, isn’t it? Even more than one per episode...

5. Mrs Hudson being where she wouldn't likely bee. The idea of Mrs H being pushed out of a helicopter is very horrible indeed, but doesn’t actually make much sense to me. Is John really a reliable narrator here? Why would an old lady be pushed out of a helicopter? To harm Sherlock? Was it the CIA-guy’s revenge? Or did it have something to do with her past in the drug-dealing business? And if she was pushed out, how did she survive? Was the helicopter parked on the ground? Too many questions here (and too many helicopters as well, I’d say). But then again, we have this remarkable scene in TLD, where Hudders is speeding a red Aston Martin with Sherlock in the boot, being chased by the police.

So apparently we can now expect just about anything from her, on any location...

Another strange thing about Hudder’s car is the registration plate; why on earth would it have the scientific genus name of the Honey bee (Apis mellifera) on it? Hmm...

6. John doing something he never thought he'd ever do. Well, here I’m totally lost. Unless... Well, from HLV and onwards, I think John has actually been doing lots of things I never thought I’d ever see John Watson do. Like beating up a junkie for no specific reason. Or having a go at Sherlock while he might be dying from a re-opened gunshot in the chest. Or forgiving his wife while knowing that she almost murdered Sherlock. Or blaming Sherlock for her death, without even having seen what happened. Or - worst of all - assaulting Sherlock, kicking him on the ground, when he’s very obviously high on drugs. So yes - that prediction does make sense, thinking about it.

Comment section. Apart from the actual content of John’s blogpost, there’s also the comment section:

Sauron!? What’s this - an in-joke as a nod to the actor who plays The Hobbit? :) In a show that is also frequented by ‘dragon-slayers’... ;) Jokes aside, these two commenters - ‘Sauron1976′ and ‘Scarlet Glove’ - have been hating on John’s blog about Sherlock more or less since he ‘died’. ‘Scarlet Glove’, however, who is claiming that The Inexplicable Matchbox events never happened, makes me think that this name might be a clue - some sort of ‘red herring’, maybe telling us that HLV-S4 actually didn’t happen in the ‘real’ world?

So, in summary, I think there’s a lot of foreshadowing for the rest of the show in this blogpost about the Inexplicable Matchbox. At first sight, S4 was rather ‘inexplicable’ to me. But I feel sure that before the show is over (which it isn’t yet), most of the weirdness actually will be explained.

When Did JoyStin Start Courting?

Let me convince you that it was August 1, 2016.

(Look! They’re skeptical, just like you probably are.)

On November 15, 2016, TLC revealed that Joy–Anna Duggar was in a courtship with Austin Forsyth. What TLC didn’t reveal was the date that courtship actually started—and to this day, we still aren’t sure.

When did JoyStin become official? I’ve got a theory... After the jump.

Since TLC announced JoyStin in November 2016, it is widely assumed that that is when the courtship started. Counting On’s on–screen titles admittedly bolster this theory...

But I’m not buying it. I think TLC fudged the timeline, and I can think of at least two reasons why they would—

Joy’s Age—Joy–Anna turned 19 on October 28, 2016. So far, she is the youngest Duggar to enter a courtship. I’m sure the Duggars don’t think this is a big deal; however, TLC maybe did. Courting at 19 is ever–so–slightly less shocking than courting at 18, and Joy’s birthday wasn’t far off. Why not wait?

Ratings—Savvy TV viewers know that November is a big month for the networks, because ratings during November (and February and May) set local advertising prices. In November 2016, TLC aired Jinger’s wedding, obviously thinking it would attract decent ratings. Then, TLC stirred up a bunch more hype by saying a new courtship would be announced during the episode. (It’s was Joy + Austin’s, by the way.) I think TLC strategically held off on announcing JoyStin, so they could get this ratings boost.

Personally, I think Austin asked Joy to court on August 1, 2016. First, I’ll explain why I think that, then we’ll see what the data has to say.

Why August 2016 ?

What made me suspect August 1, 2016, initially, was Austin’s strangely–specific reference to August 1, 2015 in the TLC announcement video. Explaining why he chose to courtpose at “The Rock,” you may recall that Austin said—

“I picked this spot because last time we were here together was August 1st of 2015.”

Then there’s an awkward cut where TLC obviously cut something out, then Joy elaborated—

“There was a whole group of us that came up, and we were just hanging out and it was really late at night. That stars were just gorgeous.”

Okay, so none of this makes much sense or is even remotely well–put. But, that said, the part that makes the least sense is Austin’s seeming–random reference to August 1, 2015. Why would Austin randomly mention that particular date, so precisely? And what does the date have to do with why he chose the location? It makes no sense, but... Maybe it was exactly one year later, and Austin chose both the date and the spot to ‘recreate’ that sentimental night.

That’s my theory. But beyond my own theory, here’s two pieces of evidence to suggest they began courting in August.

The Flowers

On September 7, 2017, Austin posted this on his and Joy’s official Instagram—

Note the caption: “One year and a day ago I sent Joy these flowers while I was at flight school.”

One year, one day before this post was September 6, 2016. So, if Counting On isn’t fudging the timeline, and this post is accurate, that means Austin sent Joy a bouquet of roses nearly two months before they started courting. I just don’t think that’s likely. First of all, I don’t think Jim Bob + Michelle would approve of such a romantic gesture, prior to courtship. Secondly, it just seems like a thing one does for a girlfriend... Sending roses while you’re away for work? A classic move. And there’s the fact that Joy was allegedly surprised when Austin asked her to court. One who receives a bouquet of roses can’t remain oblivious to the sender’s romantic interest. She wouldn’t have been so surprised.

I take this post as strong evidence that they began courting before September 6, 2016. So basically... in August.

The First Date

Also, August is when Joy + Austin had their first date, according to Joy. On this clip of Counting On, Joy and Kendra are at the hair salon ten days before Joy’s wedding—i.e., on May 16, 2017. While there, Joy tells her hairstylist that Austin took her on their first date “back in August,” or August 2016.

While I think Duggars do the ‘special friend’ thing, I don’t think they go on dates until courtship. (At least, they don’t call it a “date.”) What makes me think this is this post on Jessa’s Instagram—

You’ll recall that Jessa + Ben started courting on September 9, 2013. So, Jessa + Ben apparently didn’t have their “first date” until after Ben asked her to court. Of course, it’s possible that the Duggars’ rules have changed since Jessa’s day, but—absent compelling evidence that they have—I’m going to assume they are basically the same.

So, yeah... Either Joy started courting in August 2016, or she started dating and receiving flowers from a guy she wasn’t courting, which I doubt.

What About The Leaves?

Now, let’s talk about foliage. TLC announced JoyStin’s courtship with this little video, which features some impressive fall colors in the background.

Later, on Counting On (and this clip), Austin told Jim Bob that he was planning to courtpose to Joy at “a scenic overlook” near the Forsyths’ home. (He added that he “has been saving [the spot] for quite awhile,” which I think supports my ‘sentimental recreation of August 1, 2015′ theory.

Austin’s parents own Fort Rock Family Camp, located in Combs, AR, adjacent to the Ozarks. The Forsyths live nearby. The courtposal location is presumably nearby as well.

Online, some of y’all seem convinced that, in that part of Arkansas, the leaves change a lot earlier than November. So I looked into it and, actually, they don’t. That said, I still believe Joy + Austin started courting in August for the reasons above. If TLC can fudge a timeline, I’m sure it can sure as hell produce a fake, recreation video.

What Does The Data Have To Say ?

Assuming JoyStin started courting on August 1, 2016, was their relationship of typical length, by Duggar standards? Let’s check.

So far, 6 Duggars are married—Josh, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, and of course, Joy–Anna. Obviously, let’s ignore Joy’s data for right now. Looking at the other five’s, the average courtship duration—i.e., average time from ‘courtposal’ to proposal—was 154 Days. It varied fairly a lot, however; the standard deviation (SD) was 110 Days. As a result, we can say that the probable Duggar courtship length, prior to Joy–Anna, was 44–264 Days.

How about the duration of the entire relationship—or at least the “official” parts, courting and being engaged? Again looking at Josh, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, and Joe, the average total relationship duration was 247 Days. With a SD of 101, that yields a probable range of 146–348 Days.

How do JoyStin fit in? Well, if Joy–Anna was perfectly typical for a Duggar and started courting on August 1, 2016, you’d expect a proposal on 1–2–17, and a wedding on 4–7–17. (Technically April 5, but in 2017 that was a Wednesday, so I’ve gone with the much a probable Friday wedding.) In reality, Joy + Austin got engaged on 3–2–17, and married on 5–26–17. Still, this is more–or–less typical: If Joy agreed to court on August 1, 2016, they had a 213 Day Courtship and a 298 Day Relationship, and both are well within the Duggars’ probable range.

Maybe Joy “took it slow” because of her age. (What a thing to say... A nineteen year old marrying after less than a year is “taking it slow.” Oh, the Duggars.)

Episode Recap of "In Love in Switzerland"

From TV Guide: "In the Season premiere, Joy and Austin finally get to enjoy some alone time in Switzerland after saying "I do." Meanwhile, Joe and Kendra get their engagement photos taken; and the siblings help Jinger and Jeremy move into their new house." The house moving is the next episode.

I’m back! My recap season of life has returned and I pledge to make my recaps shorter so I can have a life. I always say that but then find too much stuff to comment on.

1. The season begins a few days after Joy’s wedding way back in May 2017. They show the clip of their first kiss and I swear they faked it. I can see no lip on lip action. This may be a precursor to Gideon’s faked home birth episode. Yeah, I know, I’m speculating. But some conspiracy is obviously going on there. Jessa, Jinger, and pulled off the show Jill, talk about how barriers break down after you say, "I do". Barriers that shouldn’t have been up in the first place except for the saving yourself for marriage if that is your choice. Barriers don’t make for a great understanding of who you are marrying. As for Jill, Derick is a liar. Pulling your family off the show means just that. That’s what you said and it isn’t what you did. You are a lying hypocrite.

2. TLC again airs the honeymoon suite that has occurred in all of the previous marriages to much my horror and snark. Why must they show off the deflowering room? Joy is happy to have thirty minutes to read the Bible with Austin before flying off to Switzerland on TLC’s dime. She is most likely already pregnant at this point. Austin has always wanted to go to the Swiss Alps and marrying Joy made that dream come true. They debate who is going to be the better skier and I hope they both break legs. Yep, I’m already bored and need a wake me up. They drive up to the airport and abandon their car out front for a tow truck to take care of for them. I guess they were too distracted by the thought of sweet Swiss sex to care about their car. Austin talks about being able to navigate their own lives without any outside guidance all while a crew from TLC films his every move. You’re not on your own yet, buddy.

3. 24 hours later, they are finally in Geneva, Switzerland and are very tired and horny. After solving both those problems they go out for lunch at a fondue place. The waiters tease them with a French menu but then later give them a menu in English. Joy is then bewildered by sparkling water. She calls it water with gas. As bewildering as water is for Joy, the cheese fondue is mind blowing. Austin checks out the other diners using his phone to figure out how to eat cheese fondue. The waiter instructs them on how to fundue but Austin does it wrong and burns his mouth. I wonder who instructed them on how to fundue in the honeymoon suite that first night. Dip it in and swirl it around. Suffer some serious burns if done wrong. End up with an after taste of morning sickness if done without thinking. Too much fondueing leads to weight gain and sleepless nights. Who knew cheese was so dangerous. Too much fondue can also lead to yodeling. Joy is set up by TLC and some local yodelers to try her old yodeling skills in the restaurant. Talking head Duggars try their yodeling skills as well. You can tell they have all seen The Sound of Music. They all do the yodel from that movie. Jessa and Ben are interviewed separately here. I wonder why. They don’t show much but Joy does pretty well with her yodeling skills. Austin just continued to stuff his mouth with cheese.

4. Joeken are taking their engagement photos back in Arkansas. Jinger wasn’t available to take them so another ATI trained photographer, Elizabeth Shoemaker, is in charge. Elizabeth is a long-time Duggar friend and Gothardite who is now wearing jeans! Joy is amazed by sparkling water and I am amazed by Gothardite women who are breaking free from legalistic rules. Joeken brought Kendra’s younger sister, Lauren, to chaperone because Kendra says the desire to jump each others bones is too strong for them to be trusted alone. When will these kids develop some self-control? The photographer tells Joe to put his hand on Kendra’s waist and Joe seeks the approval of Lauren. What is wrong with these young adults? They are so emotionally stunted. Joeken are now allowing a few more sidehugs, hand holding, and I love yous, throughout their engagement days but holding out on kissing, sex, and really getting to know each other for after the wedding. Joe says the wedding is for the girl and for her to look back on and remember. I guess the honeymoon night is for the guy. The producers ask the talking head Duggars which Duggar guy is next for a relationship. There isn’t a lot of confidence in John. John just needs to run off and elope and stop with his families’ silly games.

5. Joystin take a chocolate making class. This is the typical honeymoon activity for these people. In the class they meet a couple who have been married for eleven years and have five kids and their advice to Joystin is to have a lot of kids. Seriously?!! Did Jim Bob arrange this ahead of time? They are in the same cooking class as a Swiss couple with five kids which they admit is a lot in Switzerland? Talk about coincidence. The brainwashing continues out of Arkansas. Joy says God won’t give you more kids than you can handle which is sad when some are only blessed with two or three or even none. They must think God thinks those women are incompetent. Does Joy know about those big families who abuse and neglect their kids? The Turpins, the Willises, the Rodriguezes, and so many more, including her own parents? Michelle couldn’t handle all her kids, she has admitted this, without depending on her own little village to raise her children. Don’t these people ever think beyond the silly little catch phrases they are taught?

6. Hang gliding time. A lot of death jokes happen here. I think they’re all freakin' insane! At least when Josh and Anna went parasailing on their honeymoon they had the water to fall into. Joy lands by belly flopping on baby Gideon. I’m sure hang gliding is pretty safe and controlled but just watching it gave me a panic attack. I’m rewinding back to chocolate class to ease my nerves.

7. JinJer finally show up on the show to play a safer sport. It’s tennis time for these two. I have taken tennis classes myself so my nerves are calming down until the producers make it a big point of showing Jeremy and then Jinger exiting their car in modern day clothing that doesn’t fit into the Duggar tin box. Jinger in a short skort and a sleeveless top and Jeremy is wearing what looks like a bathing suit that doesn’t quite match his shirt. What happened to his vane style? They are both competitive and sweaty. The producers spring a strange question on the Duggar talking heads as the tennis scene is playing. They ask, “What seed are you in the Duggar family?” Seed is a tennis term which of course they are clueless about. They all look terribly confused which I don’t blame them. They all watch football, not tennis. The producers know the family lacks diversity and are clueless about most things. Jessa claims to be a watermelon seed and Jed is the seed of Jim Bob and Michelle which is sadly accurate. My seed in tennis is the bench warmer as Jeremy's was in soccer. Jeremy beats Jinger and I imagine Jinger taking secret tennis lessons from a pro and you know how that usually ends up. Next season on Counting On: Jinger courts the tennis pro and Jeremy seeds himself.

8. Back to the honeymoon of cheese, chocolate and terror. Joystin are now heading to Zermatt to go skiing but first they must buy tickets for the train. They hold up the ticket line by trying to buy a ticket in German but fail. They get yelled by some guy in German…I think. They flirt on the train and kiss through some tunnels. How Freudian. They worry about there being no snow on the glacier. Just wait a few years. Climate change is working on that. They finally find snow and hope a magically arranged by TLC ski instructor would pop up out of thin air but I guess TLC decided watching them flail and fall would be more fun. They actually both do pretty well except for not knowing how to stop. Joy later stands on the mountain barefoot because that is her natural state of being and her boots were too damn tight.

9. The episode ends with them packing up to go home which is a lie because they were out of the country for two or three weeks and ended up in Israel for awhile. Anyway, besides the lie, it was a nice travelogue episode. I hope to go to Switzerland someday so it was nice to see the scenery. You won’t catch me hang gliding though. Hell no! Chocolate making and eating is my thing!

God Closes and Opens Doors

Jess and I have been working on something big, and while I can’t reveal much right now -- I want to share a story of how God seems to work in our life. It seems that with every closed door, we wait for a bit and it appears that God was preparing us as he opens another door.

One example from our life is how God closed the door for furthering my education, but he later opened a door in providing us a home. And we can see God’s hand in it because the timing, location, and occurrence of events could not have been coincidental. We see God’s providence in every situation and circumstance.

As Christians, I believe we have a Biblical warrant to say that this is true. Joseph’s story is one of suffering and being forgotten, but God later opened doors to save him, his family, and his people. The life of Christ is full of examples of God closing doors for others so that Jesus could open other doors to display his glory. Death was a closed door for Christ until he burst forth to redeem his people. And in the life of Paul we see God closing doors and opening others so the Gospel could be spread in jails, houses, churches, and nations.

To be sure, I’m not saying that you will find open doors immediately when things turn sour. And if you find yourself behind closed doors, I’m not saying that God will always open new ones for you. But what I do believe is that God works all things for the good of those who love him. And I’m here to tell you, when you find yourself in the middle of opened and closed doors, that he is right there with you.

Sunday Tapes

We sang Be Thou My Vision on Sunday, and my friend Angie was awesome leading music with me. Her vocals were soaring, and she displayed her skill and control even with the song at a such a quick tempo.

I also appreciate how she's open to try my arrangement ideas, like the a cappella first chorus and last verse. I'm always blessed and humbled to sing with her. We were both smiling at the end because my son Linus walked right up to the front next to the camera! You can watch the video on YouTube.

With the news of more Christian leaders failing to kill their sexual sins, Joe Rigney’s More Than a Battle proved to be a timely read. Writing pointedly, Rigney says that pornography rewires the brain. He also says that explanations are not excuses, and that God can renew our minds, giving us hope.

I can see that, I just imagine it was accidental on the writers’ part. Since they seemed to want Jim to be their entry point at first. Not sure what you were going to say about Barbara, since it cut off, but I would say the way Jim treated her at first was one of the big things that blocked him from being a Ted imo.

Do you think we are supposed to already know that Diggle is ordained to marry people or do you think he’ll just blurt out, “Hey, guys, I’m ordained to marry you,” when it turns out the minister can’t make it? Bonus: do you think because OF won’t have their marriage license ready, that they’ll forget when they get home and waste months without being legally married? Lol sucks for them!

I think he’ll just blurt it out, lol, because I do expect them to have had a minister to begin with. As for the whole marriage license thing, I think the show won’t even think about it. But you can headcanon it happened that way!

Woah Iris is wearing an expensive designer dress! I honestly think they’re gonna pull all the stops on this crossover wedding. Fans will get everything they want aside from the leeches smooching on their wedding and tbh I don’t think the double wedding will really be a wedding ya know. It sounds like a be a small short ceremony, does that even count as a wedding? Anyways WA will be fine and I think the fans will be happy with the outcome.

I hope they do pull out all the stops, and that we get a beautiful dress and glorious vows and a lovely kiss and first dance… Even if they don’t all occur in the same episode, same ceremony or same place lol.

OFs think Fefe is getting a wedding dress. I highly doubt that happens.

Month in Review // Christmas is Over Thank Fuck – December

Christmas is officially done and dusted and honestly, I am so fucking thankful.

I loved Christmas day but the days leading up to Christmas? I’m good thanks, can I get Christmas without them next year?

Between the chaos that is Christmas and the extra shifts at work (plus a month-long convoluted promotion) and no longer having a best friend, because of course, I am ready to disappear for at least a year.

Month’s Goals

Try and post 4 times a week like I have been!

I wanna try audiobooks again???

No Borrowing library books unless they’re holds or audiobooks

Continue going on walks 4-5 times a week. 3 at the very least!

Keep up with Bullet Journal because it actually helps me get shit done and be less of a mess.

Try not to eat loads of takeaway, even though I’m gonna be super busy and tired, unless unavoidable.

Make one of Chrissy Teigen’s recipes because they look Bomb af

I mostly kept up with my blogging schedule!

I didn’t find an audiobook I wanted to read available from my library so I just didn’t listen to any. Plus I’m annoyed at myself because Audible had like a 3 months free trial thing happening and I forgot to sign up until the day after the promotion ended. Also from what I hear the American Audible is better so I don’t know if maybe I should sign up for that one?? I know when I was signed up, I was with the UK one because it was better but I don’t know if they let you do that anymore? If anyone can help me I’d really appreciate it! Also, $17 a month is just a lot of month to me.

I haven’t been to the library unless it was to return books!

I realised that the Bullet Journaling gives me too much power! Here’s the thing, I like things to be customisable because I work out what I want and get angry when I can’t do things that way. Unfortunately, I think Bullet Journals are too customisable for me and isn’t really working?? I don’t know. I’m going to look into other diaries for the new year and see if I can find something that fits me better.

I did eat more takeaway than last month so that’s not great but I also didn’t eat more than I used to so that’s good and what I did eat of it were mostly small things. Still not great though!

I’m trying to make @chrissyteigen’s Chicken Pot Pie recipe and I’ve burnt the crust, it’s taking me ages, my arm is sore, everything is in American measurements, I thought I’d get it done in an hour like an idiot who doesn’t read recipes through properly and I wanna die.

I Did Things

I went to the movies with my mum twice this month!

I also went to the movies with my sister which was good! Then we came home and watched Christmas movies together and things got a little emotional and there was a little miscommunication but we worked it out and I’m hoping that we spend some more time together in the coming weeks.

My sister and I both don’t really have a whole lot of people we’re close to. We’re introverts but we also craving some socialising to a point so I think it’ll be good to have us spend some time together. It would also be nice to grow closer to her because I know we both are in need of people we can trust and talk to openly.

My mum and I babysat my Nephew this month as well and it was so much fun. He’s such an easy baby! Literally you can sit him on the couch and he’ll bounce himself off the back of the lounge for hours. He put himself to sleep doing it. Twice.

He’s very cute!

Uhhhh I Maybe No Longer Have A Best Friend?

Long story short I told my best friend of over 10 years that I was officially and legally changing my name for Christmas (it was never a secret that I wanted to change it, she’s known for years) and she didn’t react well at all.

I was firm and told her that if she wanted to continue in my life she had to respect me, and that includes respecting my name and be prepared for big changes ahead.

I’ve given her space to process and decide but haven’t heard from her since so I don’t know, it’s a bit up in the air but I’m handling it surprisingly well so maybe it’s a sign that us parting is for the best???

I don’t want to lose her, but I won’t lose myself to keep her. I won’t sacrifice pieces of myself for the sake of others anymore. All that does is validate toxic behaviour and cost me my health and happiness.

She was kind of my only actual real-life friend who I speak with outside of work so uh good thing I’m too busy to feel lonely.

But I’m super grateful for the people I’ve met through the book community, having this blog and talking to you all reminds me that I’m not really alone. I just have to reach out to people which is, um…not easy for me but I’m trying to work on it.

My favourite TV shows

I think this may be an appropriate time to write this because I’m looking at the shows I’m watching next, none of them stand out (obviously the selection is good but I don’t think they’ll be my favourites). So, here’s my updated list.

1. Friends (1994-2004)

This show is my favourite show ever. In most shows, there will always be a bad season but Friends is perfect from Season 1 to 10. I think they had a really good Pilot and an absolutely amazing Finale. Ugh.

My phone wallpaper is actually the purple door with the yellow frame. I think when I live on my own, I will paint my door purple and add that frame on the peephole. I’m kind of obsessed.

This is one of the shows that every time I watch it, I will laugh the same way. Almost as if I’m hearing all the jokes for the first time (even though, I know what they’re going to say).

Ohhhh and the characters. The Chan-chan man (Chandler Muriel Bing in case you didn’t know) is my favourite. He’s just so funny. I’m legit laughing while I type this because I’m recalling all of Chandler’s best moments. I love all the characters but Chandler is the best.

I could talk about this show all day tbh. Too bad that none of my friends have a burning passion to this show like I do.

Since I’ve watched this show, I’ve NEVER EVER missed the 4 claps during the opening credits.

2. Parks and Recreation (2009-2015)

PARKS AND REC WHERE DO I BEGIN? aaaaagggghhhhhhhhhh

I have a timeline written up of how and when I discovered Parks and Rec (which isn’t at all significant in my life btw) and it began with a video Andy and then progressed into watching a lot of videos on this show until I owned a copy of the whole series. Ahhh the good times.

I love this show so so so so much that I even considered working for the government and the government sucks.

Parks and Rec is so fun and is also one of the shows that I could watch over and over again. The characters are just so original and unique and hilarious.

There are so many moments in the show that I absolutely adore and they made me laugh so hard and I sometimes cry excessively.

I want to rant about each character individually but I ramble. However, April Ludgate is my spirit animal. But I also love Leslie Knope because she’s so positive that it’s infectious and this also spawned my forever love of Amy Poehler. She’s the best human.

BENSLIEEE oh my god. Most people would love Andy and April or Jim and Pam (The Office) but Benslie will be my most favourite ship.

3. Sherlock (2010-present?)

I put “?” on the date above because as of now, nobody knows is they’re making Season 5 but they’re not saying that the show is officially over.

I’m pretty late on the bus with Sherlock. I got into it when “The Abominable Bride” was released. However, I did watch it from the beginning. I’m actually happy I was late because I only had to wait a year before Season 4 started instead of having to wait 2-3 years like the other fans did.

Holy shit this show. I fangirled so hard with Johnlock. Especially with Sherlolly. If you’ve watched the Season 4 finale then YOU KNOW THAT SHERLOLLY IS REAL. SHERLOLLYISFUCKINGREALGUYS. Oh my heart. my poor poor heart cannot bear this.

I’ve been a fan of Benesnitch Cumberdict for so long even before I knew about Sherlock and I fell in love with The Hobbit because of Martin Freeman. So basically, I love these two.

I could go on and on and on about how much I love this show because Benedict has a beautiful face with cheekbones that could slice through butter but I should stop because I will start crying.

4. Adventure Time (2010-present)

One of the best cartoons these days. I know I’m too old to be watching this but admit it, you’ve enjoyed this when this is on. If Adventure Time is on, I will reject the other things I’m doing just to sit down and watch this. Ridiculous, I know.

I don’t ever think I’ll get sick of Finn and Jake especially because there’s still so much material for this show to go on forever.

I haven’t caught up to the recent episodes yet (which is so stupid considering every episode is 11 minutes long, you would think I’ve caught up) but I haven’t been seeing much of Marceline. She is my favourite character. Her story arc with The Ice King/Simon will always be one of my favourites (plus she sings too). The songs she sings are so soooo deep. “All Gummed Up” is my favourite song. It’s not by Marceline though haha but I love it. Just saying.

Finn and Jake’s adventures are so over the top and I love it and they have lessons in the end too which I like.

I’m still scouting for dogs that look like Jake and personally, I would buy merch from this show and not be embarrassed to use them in public.

5. How I Met Your Mother (2005-2014)

Okay, so before I start I just need to explain why this situation makes me laugh. I watched this show before Friends and I love this show soooo much. I saw a video that compared Friends and How I Met Your Mother and I remember saying with such an indignant tone “What the fuck? HIMYM is obviously more superior”.

It’s just so funny to me now because of the state of this ranking. There are many things similar to Friends but this is a show all on its own.

I watched Season 7 or 8 first and experienced my first binge-watching disease. This show is my introduction to the wonderful world of TV. I continued watching until the finale from then on. I only had the chance to watch Seasons 1-6 until after the finale so there were times during 8-9 that I didn’t get any of the inside jokes.

But yes. This show is sooo good and sooo horrible (not in a bad way though). I loved all of the seasons but Season 8 has a sweet spot in my heart. Season 9 was okay and the finale was betrayal but post-finale, I think I’m okay with the result now. I’ve let it sit in for a while and now I understand so no hard feelings.

The Mother’s version of “La Vie En Rose” on the ukulele will always be my go to sappy song to sing.

6. Pretty Little Liars (2010-present)

If you’ve been a part of the PLL fandom since the beginning, you’d understand how done we are of this show. HAHAHAHA.

I’ve been watching since the Season 1 and as upset as I am of this show ending, I think it’s time. The reason this is on the list is because I do love the show to my very core and it will always be so special to me because 13-15 year old me would we anticipating the release of an episode every Wednesday after school and be so fricking happy to discuss the show with her friends the next day.

I think this show would’ve had the perfect send-off after 6A when A was finally revealed. They even had their emotional goodbyes and I’ll admit that I was bawling my eyes out. But nooooooooooooooooooooo they had to release 6B.

The only thing that gives me hope is Spoby. SPOBY. I love spoby so much you don’t get it. Spencer and Toby should be together. Like WTF Marlene?

The earlier seasons were good and I loved those and hopefully they redeem themselves with these last 10 episodes (I think they will). I can’t wait.

7. Game of Thrones (2011-present)

I’m playing the opening credits in my head.

Okay so I’m sorry I fell into the hype that is Game of Thrones. I promised myself I wouldn’t but whoops.

I didn’t think I’d like it hence, the downloading of Season 1 and ONLY SEASON 1. But as soon as Ned’s head fell off, I went ahead and downloaded everything. Sorry.

However, I am proud of myself that I watched this after the Season 6 finale because I wasn’t trying to catch up with everybody. BUT!!! It sucked that I knew the ending of Season 6 when I watched Season 1 because it was every where on the Internet. Thankfully, that didn’t spoil anything because I didn’t know who anybody was.

I just find this show so interesting with all the plots of the characters and I’m so invested in it. I love everyone on the show too but people keep dying like wtf?

There’s this funny thing I read before that says “If Sansa can make it to Season 7 then I can get through anything”. HAHAHAHAhahaha it’s not that funny. soz.

Oh! Also, am I the only that ships Jaime and Brienne so fucking much?

8. The Office (2005-2013)

I finished this yesterday by the way. I only cried like more than 10 times. Not that much.

Like the Friends/HIMYM thing, I also judged this show a little too early because they were comparing it to Parks and Rec with the whole mockumentary type thing going on and I adore Parks very much. However, this show was really funny and I actually liked it.

It took a while for me to get around it at the beginning because I thought Michael was a douche but as all the characters developed, they all fell into their own and they became likeable characters anyway. Dwight is the best character btw.

I have a lot of favourite moments in the show and stuff I didn’t enjoy very much. Jim and Pam’s wedding will always be my favourite episode. I mean honestly, how could you not love that wedding march when they all danced to “Forever” by Chris Brown?

Seasons 2-7 were really good seasons. Season 8 wasn’t. Season 9 was a little rocky with the whole Jim and Pam thing and why would you introduce this Brian guy so late into the show????

I know it went downhill when Michael left but there were really good episodes and they also had one of the best finales. Season 9 redeemed itself towards the end.

9. The Mindy Project (2012-2013)

OOOOOO I discovered this show around the same time I discovered Parks. After watching a gross amount of Benslie videos, I came across one of Mindy and Danny’s stuff and I became so invested in them even though I haven’t watched the show yet.

As of recent, it’s not going well. I’m having the same kind of reaction with PLL where it started off well and now the show is losing me kind of. BUT I STILL HAVE HOPEEEE.

UUUUUUGGHHH I just want Mindy and Danny to stay together. They were doing so well though and whyyy did they do this?

Danny Castellano was so perfect and then the show had to give him this fucking attitude of “No, you have to stay home and be a mom and forget your career” bullshit. uuuuuuuuuuuu betray me TMP.

The second half of Season 2 until the first half of Season 4 are the best parts of the show. Season 1 was fine but I was more invested with Dandy so my favourite episodes begin with them first getting together. mihihihi. Let’s just forget the last half of Season 4 up to Season 5.

I’m staying with the show until it ends mainly because I love Mindy Kaling/Mindy Lahiri so much. I just want to be her. I want to be a doctor in my own practice and have a lot friends and be hot and confident af.

If I die, tell Mindy Kaling I love her.

10. Rick and Morty (2013-present)

This show is amazing. If you’ve watched this you know why.

I was a bit hesitant with this because it was a cartoon and I didn’t get into cartoons anymore because I’m 19. Except for Adventure Time because I watched it at a reasonable age where it was not shameful to enjoy cartoons.

But okay going back to Rick and Morty... this show is so messed up and so funny. It’s the funniest bunch of characters.

Rick so fucked up and drinks and burps and is so smart and Morty is so gullible and he stutters and they’re such a funny duo. I love their adventures and all their alien encounters.

There’s this scene (which if you’ve seen it you know why) that’s so messed up. It’s where Morty went to the toilet and there was this alien thing and things went bad really quickly. It’s sick.

I can’t wait for Season 3. It’s next month I think?? I know what’s probably going to happen but it’ll be great to see Rick and Morty together again and doing all kinds of crazy shit together.

Re-reading this and holy crap I talk too much. But yes... SPECIAL MENTIONSSS (because they didn’t get into the top 10 but I really love them): Mr. Robot, Stranger Things, Masters of Sex and Hannibal. Ok done.
