Something I can't stop thinking about is that Snape began the series being perfectly okay
He was actually at his best. He'd spent ten whole years in Hogwarts without the Marauders and before Harry Potter walked in.
Of course it wouldn't have been easy for him to adjust, but he did. And I just can't help but think of those first months where the other teachers got to know him, and got to realise that this boy needed them, needed their help, and took care of him. I can't help but think of how they promised him that it's okay, it's over, everyone's safe and he's not what he thinks he is. He's okay.
Like, for ten years he would have been happy. He had friends. He had a job. He had a home. Hogwarts was his home.
And then Harry Potter came and everything went wrong.
Can you imagine, him seeing Harry's face for the first time? After so many years of actually being content and happy, suddenly he sees James Potter's face, Lily Evans' eyes. Suddenly he's reminded of Voldemort who will return now, and now he's got a ticking clock, a countdown warning him that that's it, time's up, everything you've built in these ten years are soon going to break. And then come the events of the first and second year. Okay, so they're chaotic and stressful, but it's fine, they're all stressed, they're all in this together.
Then it's Harry's third year.
And that's when everything falls apart.
Remus Lupin, one of his abusers and a serious gaslight, is here in the job he wanted, and acting like everything's fine between them while simultaneously disrespecting him and forgetting to take the potion and being a huge risk to them all. Sirius Black, one of the two main abusers, is on the loose. And no one is ever gonna believe him about Lupin, are they? Suddenly it's Lupin's home. Lupin's safe space. But what about Snape? Do the past 13 years mean nothing? It seems so. And in the end, he has a complete breakdown because it's all coming down.
Then comes the goblet of fire. Okay, normal, right? But then there's moody. And there's the visiting schools. And then there's Kararoff who will not leave him alone! And then...
And then Harry Potter comes with the dead body of a teenage boy, crying and screaming that Voldemort's back.
And now Snape knows that time is up and things only get worse. Everything happens after that, from spying to dealing with that wretched Umbridge who's trying to destroy the school.
And then...
And then he has to kill Dumbledore.
And that when it all ends.
All he built in the past 16 years....
All the promises that they'd never leave him...
That they'd always look after him...
That they know he's not that person he used to be...
That everything will be okay because he has them to look after him...
They mean nothing now.
He's not okay anymore.

never love an anchor
i feel like i've said this before and i will say it again but every time i do this specific ask game i love trying to figure out the songs people use and if i know them and i absolutely love this song (one of my top obikin songs tbh)
this makes me think of a same age au where obi-wan goes to the agricorps and anakin becomes a jedi padawan and then a knight, and their paths cross a few times a year once they're all grown up. obi-wan is tapped to go to the temple every summer season to give them updates on the agricorps and every time they meet, they fuck and it's like...almost a committed relationship in anakin's mind because he's not sleeping with anyone else but who knows what (and who) obi-wan is doing in the agricorps. they don't talk about it.
they don't hate each other or anything, it's not hate sex---it's really good sex and they have a pretty good time whenever they see each other, but it's always brief. and obi-wan always leaves after a few days at most. and he always makes leaving look so easy, as if he really does just view anakin as a casual fun thing
aayla is the only one who knows about it and she is of the opinion that anakin should stop it - it verges on the weirdest attachment she's ever seen, and even if obi-wan returned the intensity of anakin's feelings, he lives and works on a planet a three day flight from coruscant. even if they wanted to carry on a secret tryst, they can't. there's no future there that.
but then obi-wan comes to the temple with several large bags and informs anakin that he's being stationed on coruscant for the next year or so as he works with the coruscanti gardeners on designing a new tranche of green spaces for the city.
and that means that anakin has a year to convince obi-wan that they should fall in love.
send me a made-up fic title and i'll tell you what i'd write to go with it!

So has anyone ever stopped to think about how insanely terrifying high technology is in the Guild Wars universe?
To start with an obvious example, Taimi/Omadd's machine. It was kind of glossed over but THAT WAS A MACHINE CAPABLE OF DELETING TYRIA. Like if Taimi hadn't had the foresight to put a tracker on her work, Tyria would have been swallowed by the void. Now it's stated that this was only possible because of the once-a-millenia genius of Omadd and was explicitly stated to be non-replicable with Tyria's current knowledge... But it's not inconceivable that someone's gonna figure out the same things Omadd did and build an equivalent device eventually. Who needs nukes when you can just reach out and fuck with the metaphysical underpinnings of reality?
And moving on to more accessible technologies, Ankka's extractor is both powerful enough to take down an elder dragon (you know, one of the beings holding up the world) and replicable enough that Joon and Xunlai Jade could bang out 6 of the things from just studying its core. Like if anyone gets bitter towards Aurene they could just take some of these devices, point them at her and, oh dear the void's a problem again.
The point I'm making is that The All seems rediculously fragile and, any civilisation with the requisite knowledge and technology could obliterate their world in a second through devices like the ones shown before.
The fermi paradox is real in GW2 and it comes in the form of world destroying superweapons, because these devices are essentially nukes on steroids. Its probably a good thing that the elder dragons reset civilisation every 10,000 years actually because once a civilisation gets advanced enough the destruction of their world seems inevitable.
Of course this is making the assumption that a sufficiently advanced civilisation can't develop defences to protect the magical underpinnings of their world, but I haven't seen any evidence of that yet so I'll believe it when I see it. And besides, in my opinion it's kind of more interesting if realities are fragile and its hard to stop technologically advanced civilisations with superweapons from tearing the universe apart every time they have a disagreement or war.
