Game NOTES!
Cazadores still going strong - like most of the systems, and I’m trying to dial it in and make an actual, useable rulebook. Not that easy, actually.
Ill Winds continues to spiral in and out of control, but I did get a full rewrite of its rules down as well - need to track down some RPG players to ambush with it for a couple months though to figure out what I’m still missing.  Oh, and fill out all my tables. So many tables.
Uproot is...  Kinda dead. In fixing the first-player advantage problem, I kinda killed any passion I had for the game. It’s a bummer, but not the first. Someday I’ll actually make something, but Uproot was not it.
Still toying with an idea of fan-games as well - I think Arknights would still make a pretty nifty one. Not what I’m focused on - (like hell I’d ever get a collab go-ahead as an unpublished nobody,) - but it’s still germinating in there.
Have it on my mind to separate games stuff to a seperate blog and leave doodles here, but it sounds like :effort:

Ill Wind by Kevin J. Anderson and Doug Beason $5 Tor Books (1996) It's the largest oil spill in history: a crashed supertanker in San Francisco Bay. Desperate to avert environmental damage—and a PR disaster—the multinational oil company releases an untested "designer microbe" to break up the spill. An "oil-eating" microbe, designed to consume anything made of petrocarbons: oil, gasoline, synthetic fabrics, and of course plastic. What the company doesn't realize is that their microbe propagates through the air. But when every car in the Bay Area turns up with an empty gas tank, they begin to suspect something is terribly wrong. The cover art is by Tim Jacobus. . Overall Great Condition, No Crease In Spine, Binding Tight, Sticker On Back Cover . . . #illwind #kevinjanderson #dougbeason #paperbacksciencefiction https://www.instagram.com/p/CCt0F7LgyQH/?igshid=h3vziruxyjku

Tried fitting Battletech to Ill Winds for fun.  Doesn’t really gel due to different goals, but I gave it a go.  Still want to run BT as an RPG but not really satisfied with existing systems.  ...And then there’s the whole thing about BT not being a fast and easy game for groups in the first place...

“Look at you! Blendin’ in like a proper Doman,”  she was snickering, but Grymwaen did fit the kimono well! She was glad that he wasn’t completely suffering while staying around in Doma. It definitely helped keep her mind off worrying while she recovered from that fight with Garlemald’s Crown Prince of fuckery. “Have you tried fishin’ off the docks yet? Or the bathhouse?!”
All things she would like to do once the hole in her gut properly closed up.

Book Review: William Bradshaw, King of the Goblins (by Arthur Daigle)
Just a quick review today of William Bradshaw, King of the Goblins by Arthur Daigle. If you need a laugh, try this series. It’s a hoot and a half. XD This review is for book one, and I’m currently reading the second book and highly entertained! The author also wrote the Dana Illwind books (or, as I call them, the Jayden and Dana books) which are top favorites of mine! (Book 1 review.) (Book 2…

Covid, Hurricanes and Retirement... oh my!
This year is RESPLENDENT (go look it up, I used the word correctly) with change, challenges and surprises.
Tumblr media
Can I “multitask?”...c’mon man ... it’s 2020.
This week’s pearls of wisdom were going to be another in a line of entries dealing with retirement adjustments; but as recent events would have it ... we are about to face Hurricane Laura landfall in about four hours. Late last week, we were looking at two arriving almost simultaneously, but Tropical Storm Marco was just a bunch of hot air. Laura, it seems is the real deal: torrential rain, category three, 125 mph sustained winds...but of course.
A hurricane in Texas is a party affair more often than not, with beer being the most necessary supply to weather the storm. It’s that Texas bravado that sees us through hard times and can get us into a lot of danger ... all at the same time. We deal with things like heat waves, droughts, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes like a piece of cake yearly; but throw in a once a century pandemic...yeah... and bravado turns into a willful ignorance buffet!
Tumblr media
I have plenty of beer, candles, flashlights, dry goods and a chain saw, so ah tha haem an abide o tha Rich fowk ... We ur daein' grain. The planned “retired teacher” topic for today fits into this drama quite nicely: losing track of days. The impending hurricane damage will provide ample distraction for this phenomena.
If the worst comes to pass, all of us, to varying degrees will experience the mindset, “what is today?” The return to our collective senses will occur when the electricity is restored and our stability and knowledge of the day is reestablished by what’s on Tv. As I drink my La Bibliotecha coffee and contemplate how disoriented one feels when there’s no firm grasp on what day it is currently, I must admit this state of mind is semi permanent since retirement.
In the “real world” of everyday teaching, we were acutely aware of what day it was, whether we wanted to be or not. Like most wage slaves, our nirvana were Saturday and Sunday, but the progress to those days were carefully measured. The insurance selling camel who joyously proclaims, “hump day,” takes on mythic, guru like status when one works for the weekend. As a retiree, all the days blend together and can create a murky dishwater effect. I believe this to be the case as our timed to the second work week is not how we were intended to live; we were meant to live in a more natural state of the passing of time measured in the changing of moons, sun up sun down, etc.... what do I know?
Tumblr media
Trash day is my true north now; Wednesday is the lodestone of awareness man. (Ironic that it is still hump day) Tuesday afternoon, I’m breaking down boxes, strategically placing bags and rolling that buddy out to the curb with all the efficiency of a Roman Legionare. On “T” day (trash day) I will position my self to make certain that the garbage receptacle is properly dumped and I’m ready to pounce on any stray refuse that might have tried to escape its destiny in the landfill. I know to many of you this may seem pathetic and I guess...it sort of IS....but do not dismay potential retirees, that’s not all it is... I hope. My way of adjusting to this experience is to master the moment. Yes, you have to be prepared for trash day, domestic accord demands it; but as I mentioned in last week’s wisdom, some structure is needed (not too much). You also have to have plenty of “ I finally get to do what I want” projects at the ready. For me, such projects consist of painting, sculpture, reading, guitar playing, hiking, writing a blog, medieval designs, yard work and such. Here’s the kicker, the holy grail, the light at the end of the tunnel for this conundrum: you can choose to do what you want, when you want. Impulsivity, spontaneity, freedom to choose ... all of which are enemies of the wage slave can dispel the programmed need to know what day it is ..... easy peasy nice and cheesy ...Bob’s your uncle!
Tumblr media
It is the way we were meant to live on this muddle ball: ready for anything at anytime. It is disconcerting at first, it’s frustrating and, hey, I’m still all new to this; but it does seem to help. Adjusting to new way of life after 30 years, ain’t no piece of cake, but as my friend Paul,he runs the Fredonia Brewery, just told me, “every ill wind blows fair for some one.” If you have a free spirit that has been held down by structure and scheduling... welcome aboard the “Marekesh Express.” If you relied on such organization... well, a hurricane is coming... go buy some beer...
